One Real Reveal was recorded between July 2023 & January 2024 on a Tascam 244 four track cassette machine using a Telefunken KM-56 microphone
I can't stress how happy this kind of liner note makes me. No fuss or frills, just press 'record' and play.

admittedly I have trouble distinguishing between "local famous" and "actual famous" (as judged by americans, the arbiters of pop culture) bc I forget about canadian content laws and just assume, for example, that a song/artist inescapable on the radio here is also well-known elsewhere. but I am always thinking about an argument I had with my mother once where she was ADAMANT that joel plaskett was like actual famous and I was like "mom I don't even think he's famous in other parts of canada" and her argument was "well if he isn't famous why was he on sesame street???" and I didn't believe her and made her look it up and turns out he was just on some random kids cbc show where they also had puppets and he sang like a kids version of fashionable people or something. tbh still riding the high of winning that argument bc she was genuinely really heated about it and thought I was gaslighting her. this was her hill and she was prepared to die on it screaming for some reason

The critics think we're quaint but set to fold But they've only seen the show from the stalls Once more to the boards, one more curtain call Give the crowd everything they're asking for and more Always make them laugh, try to make them cry Always take the stage like it's the last night of your life All the things I've seen behind these tattered scenes All the upturned faces with the lamplight in their eyes Each imperfect turn flickers once then burns Only lasts a moment, but for me they'll never die We are respected, we're not remembered We are the ghosts of Vaudeville, unnumbered We are the fathers of the halls, and we'll never be famous We aren't mere artists, we are something more: we're entertainers

The last time John Oliver appeared on The Bugle was their 15th birthday episode in October 2022, and I made the mistake of listening to it on the way home from work, and I had to desperately try to pull my mask up and my hat down so the other people on the bus would not see the very literal tears in my eyes as I tried to keep my uncontrollable laughter silent. I won't be making that mistake this time, which means that as difficult as it'll be to hold off for so many hours, I will listen to this when I get home from work tonight. And I'll try to avoid Tumblr on my breaks throughout today, because of spoilers.
But fucking hell. Oh my God. Oh my God oh my God oh my God oh my God. I might stick Joel Plaskett's Love this Town on repeat during that commute to work today, as I think that is the only way to go into a Zaltzman and Oliver reunion properly prepared (it's the song that I happened to be obsessed with when I first got to the end of the original run of The Bugle, and now immediately takes me back there every time I hear it).

Random offer: would any one person want a free download code for Joel & Bill Plaskett's "Solidarity" album? The vinyl was given as a gift, and I already had the songs added into my library. Let me know if you want some East Coast of Canada folk rock songs.
