space sweepers but they're delivery people and are at no point on screen through the entire movie
#fantasy high#riz gukgak#kristen applebees#gorgug thistlespring#adaine abernant#fabian seacaster#figueroth faeth#the bad kids#half tempted to say these names are forum handles they use so much it pretty much became their professional names lol#I keep them teenagers bc its funnier that way#no real lore I just like drawing this. but I do think abt how theyre all weirdos too also bc thats funny to me#riz is a huge conspiracyhead who does everything by hands. he has a casio fx-570 in mint condition. nobody knows how he's maintaining it#he is nonetheless Really Good at his job. which somewhat tracks bc it's a job that requires keeping up with interstation conflicts#and new policies and an obsessive amount of planning. but he is Too Good at it. and also he dresses like that#kristen has the atomic engine that theoretically lets her unmake and remake matters with her mind. but it consumes a huge amount#of energy so it's mostly useless. she's still a cult survivor also#gorgug lives his entire life on a ship with his parents who quit a cushy deal maintaining a space station bc he wouldn't be allowed on#the low gravity let him grow very tall but also his oxygen saturation is pretty bad so he's got breathing support#fig is a robot who just found out she's a robot like two months ago. she's been assuming everyone's a robot like her and she's been feeling#very betrayed by her mom lying about that part. she's on a body mod spree which is rough bc system-specific parts are expensive#and so is adapting random parts to her system#fabian's still a pirate captain's son. can't say anything that'd be able to get the vibes across clearer than that#adaine went to tech/business school. she put her monthly allowance towards an ecoterrorist group in her academy which turned out to be an o#and she's currently wanted by UTS. more than fabian. which makes him slightly mad#she's also acquired a passion for low-tech weaponry on the way. she likes ice picks and cleavers#I think up all of this for no reason except that once again the idea of all these people being 1/teens and 2/on the same ship to be posties#is hilarious to me. esp. if they were in a forum group chat beforehand

Some years ago, I posted in the art forums on Gaia asking for feedback on a portrait I did. I don't remember if you offered feedback and I checked your profile out of curiosity, or I simply stumbled upon you while looking at other posts made that day- but I remember sending you a PM to ask where I could follow you because I fell in love with your art at first site. One of the best things to ever happen. I love coming back to look at your pieces and just revel in the designs.
this feels SO strange to me in a good way bc I feel like I haven't been on Gaia for so long and I can barely recall what I've been doing there now but thanks so much for continuing to be here!! ;u;

Two very unfortunate (or hilarious) things about the german version of the murderbot diaries is that not only did they manage to translate the title All Systems Red as Systemausfall (eng. system failure) when one future installation turned out to be named System Collapse, they also managed to turn Rogue Protocol into Exit Szenario (no need to translate) right before Exit Strategy came out.

Weird question but do you think I could put that my art was in Li’s Book of Friends on my resume? Totally cool if not I’ve just barely done anything in my life and I’m rather proud of that lol. You don’t have to answer publicly
ABSOLUTELY. It's on my resume, too!
Potential buzz word vomit: you were a "featured artist" who "coordinated with a grassroots team of over fifty international artists and writers to produce an illustrated fantasy travelogue that has raised over $3,000 USD in support of wildlife conservation."
Always list fannish works on your resume. They sounds AMAZING as long as you talk around the fandom name.

Just so you know, tumblr is currently using art for AI training and the only way to stop them is to go into your settings and turn it off 'third party sharing' manually (on each of your blogs)
tyty! i've already turned it off for all my blogs, but i do appreciate the ask to let me know!
we are in hell, but i aint gettin out of this chair. the only other places to sit are stools with 3 legs or molding plastic lawn chairs and i'm sick of moving

i do wish i was better at communicating with people online and through technology. i wander into conversations and make new ones all the time irl with random people and its fun but im like hyping myself to type out a single response to a Post. and to say nothing of how difficult it is to get me to say something in a discord server
#or even video or audio calls are becoming hard for me rn. i used to be better at this#i used to be sooo good at talking to people online. maybe. or maybe not actually#now that i think about it ive always been a little outside of everything in both irl and online communities ive been in#you know i was part of the mods for a deviantart species a long time ago. i was pretty bad at my job i was always too slow to actually mod#and one day i came home from school and like the entire modbase imploded because of drama on a discord or smth they had that i wasnt in LOL#tbh i was a bit older than all of them and busy with final year of highschool stuff so i wasnt super present. i think they just had me on#because while i wasnt particularly popular as an artist i did have some eyecatching polish on my art. but it was wild i was like#whats going on. who are you people. where am i. i have to apply to ouac rn i dont know whats happening#wait random ass deviantart drama i was vaguely adjacent to but still dont really know what happened aside. i would like to chat more#i think the easiest way to converse with me is commenting on my posts like theyre forum threads. or dming me. sometimes#im so bad with group chats. especially if they have multiple channels. the only group chat ive stuck with is a tiny one with like#two other friends and we just write thoughts and about our day and pictures of animals and whatever#i get confused and scared in discords. i get so confused and scared#i used to be okay with discord calls but even with that ive been struggling. am i scared of the computer#am i scared of the computer. the machine. whats happening

The team I work for announced their promotional schedule for the upcoming season, looking forward to it for the most part, and hopefully they'll be better than last season (they were worst in their conference and second last in the league, it has to get better, right?).
In the winter of 2023, I came forward and explained that I think that hosting a 'pride night' next season would be great. I did hours of research, data analysis, only to have my presentation shut down due to "discussion among ownership." With this, I basically came out to my manager and to most of the front office staff, I am lucky to be surrounded by a bunch of great people at all levels of the organization.
At the beginning of last season, I found out that they basically did their own 'pride/hockey is for everyone' night, and it fucking stung. Make no mistake, I'm thrilled that they're trying to make the rink/sport a more inclusive space. It stings because they know how much time I put into this, as well as the risk of coming out in a place where people like me aren't common or even welcomed (as of writing this, there's no POC on the roster, three POC (myself included) working in various positions at the team, and two queer people (business side, myself included).
Since their hockey is for everyone night is earlier in the season than last year's, I suspect that things have already been set in place and by the time I'm officially back, it's going to be too late to have any meaningful contribution.
Last season's hockey is for everyone night went pretty good, with most players using pride tape and saying supportive messages for the team's social media and in game video. I am so happy that they were able to do this, and I am hoping that this season's night goes equally as well. I am hoping that I am able to help in a future season's pride/hockey is for everyone night (provided I continue working there).
I wish I could truthfully say that hockey is for everyone, but there are so many barriers and cultural factors that would need to change to make that true.

Still watching my way through the live letter (just hit break) but I'm gonna put my toxic gamer hat on for a sec and just say who the FUCK made the decision of "well we're going to get rid of Spineshatter because people are using it for damage as well as a gap closer and replace it with a new action that.....just scooches your character forward a bit".
You're really taking the jumps from the jumping job? If damage reduction was the goal then just take the damage part away and let it remain a gap closer like what red mage and samurai and reaper have ffs.
I have mixed feelings on the Drakesbane change and will have to play it through before I decide either way but I'm more concerned with getting the buffs that were at each end of the two melee combo trees.
Absolutely thrilled about the change to have a progressive skill on the same button though, I missed what they did to mirage dive with having it be on the same button as high jump. That's at least a single step towards managing button bloat.
And it's about damn time that second wind got an upgrade.

catching up on e f benson-posting under the cut
outside the door
unsettlement: 3. this is a perfectly good haunting, if only we'd get to experience it properly. instead he's doing the reporting thing again - let me recount the time my friend told me all about a ghost - and it makes for a tone that's too cosy and knowing to be properly frightening.
homoeroticism: 3. points for bothering to mention that the characters were reading the green carnation.
good story: 4. a bit too much hypothesising on the nature of hauntings for me without thematically connecting it to the specific experience. i enjoyed the characters' bants though
gavon's eve
unsettlement: 4. my immediate reaction to this was 'please, not more pictish roundhouses'. whatever dread a pictish roundhouse holds for fred benson, he is not doing it justice. luckily the actual horror in this one is witchcraft, which is a step up from 'the concept of a pictish roundhouse'; unfortunately i'm a harder sell on witches than i am on ghosts. couple little ghost-y moments though.
homoeroticism: 4. it isn't necessary to read the narrator and his friend as catty gays, but it's also not discouraged by the narrative. points for referring to the handsome scottish man as 'adonis of the north'.
good story: 5. coherent but not gripping
the bus-conductor
unsettlement: 7. i have to go rethink what's un-scary about 'outside the door' now, because this is another 'my friend tells you about a ghost' tale, but this one IS scary. maybe it's just that he deliberately gave hugh the quality of 'good storyteller' and the narrator is keen to listen quietly, instead of piping up with asides. that plus the weirdness and vividness of the imagery.
homoeroticism: 5. first things first: RECURRING CHARACTER SPOTTED - hello again hugh grainger from 'the gardener'! no mention of a wife in this one, so presumably this is a pre-margaret hugh. i do like him. and so, evidently, does our narrator. 'Hugh is about six feet high, and as broad as he is long.' 'I do not care for his theories, or for his similes, but when it comes to facts, to things that happened, I like him to be lengthy.' If You Say So. i would also like to remark on hugh being put in the room that he thinks is ordinarily the narrator's room, because there really was no reason for that whatsoever.
good story: 9. yep! banger! i think this one's had a couple adaptations, and you can see why. it merits it.
the man who went too far
unsettlement: 2. like 'negotium perambulans', this one is very rich with an eerie absence of fear. very strong in atmosphere without trying to evoke shivers. maybe your average 1912 reader would be more disturbed by this one? points given for the moment of horrible realisation that the 'final revelation' may be one of horror. unfortunately (spoilers), when it actually does happen, it's Trampled By Goat. it's hard to pull off horror when you're using phrases like 'frolicsome skippings'.
homoeroticism: 10. ten out of ten!!! what in the dorian gray! i need to go lie down! i can't even pick the gayest quotes, because the whole thing is absolutely sodden with homoeroticism.
good story: 8. this one is making me want to read literary criticism. it's not short and it's not tightly-paced; it definitely wallows. but given how atmospheric of a hammock it's wallowing in, i have no complaints.
the shootings of achnaleish
unsettlement: 2. this one is supernatural-flavoured folk 'horror' and frankly i have a suspicion it's not intended to be scary, because the protagonists are so obviously 'in the wrong' that you really can't help but hope they'll be burned in their beds by the locals.
homoeroticism: 1. nothing going on here whatsoever.
good story: 6. this started off SO strong, and then the ending lets it down completely. premise: great. pacing: great. it would have been so easy to resolve this plot in a way that would actually tie things together. instead it just sort of falls apart. it's infuriating

I'm serving as a mediator for some folks and, since I have to be mindful of what I say and do to any of the involved parties and because it has been a long fucking day,
THIS IS SO STUPID. EVERYONE IS SO STUPID. IT'S A GODDAMN BASIC MISCOMMUNICATION AND EVERYONE IS IN THEIR FEELINGS AND MAKING WILD ACCUSATIONS AND IT'S ALL SO STUPID. I HATE EVERYONE INVOLVED.
IF ANYONE USES A POP PSYCH BUZZWORD AGAIN I'M GONNA THROW A TABLE AT THEIR FACE.
I WILL NEVER ACT AS A MEDIATOR AGAIN. I WILL BE THAT HAG IN THE WOODS WHO SHOUTS AT PEOPLE TO EITHER GET THEIR SHIT TOGETHER OR GET THE FUCK OFF MY MOUNTAINSIDE.
"hey what do you do for fun" I FIND PLACES AS FAR FROM OTHER LIVING HUMANS AS POSSIBLE AND PRETEND THAT MY SKIN IS BEING SLOWLY REPLACED WITH MOSS

truly reading the nicki arc makes the show choices make soooo much sense are the people who thought e5 was out of character stupid like are you just stupid it's an honest question. I'm begging everyone to read the scene where he turns nicki bc the sadness to rage to sadism evolution in the course of like five minutes is quite literally spelled out and it is SO for real scary like idk what book you guys were reading
