I think he was a war criminal, a misogynist, a sexual harasser and a paedophile, he did not deserve the air he breathed and he should have been painfully tortured and set on fire. Like most of Konoha's heroes, he hides his miseries and his lack of ethics behind an amicable façade, pretending to be a nice guy while he ruins the lives of people for the "will of fire" fascism. And Nagato did the world a service by making a brochette out of him. This is one of the best moments of this story. Good riddance, rot in hell, monster.

Fics that treat Orochimaru madness being something that grow up with time is absolutely delicious, if the disaster trios ask the ninjas and the civilians they would tell them he is crazy and cruel he betrayed his home and hurt his allies his existence bring shame to Konoha, he was a war hero and a now is a traitor.

But he was more than that He was mischievous, a genius, always searching for more knowledge, because he don't like being surprised (in the battlefield that means death) he was a orphan, he was alone, Konoha was his home, he was a proud shinobi so he would protect it with his life (he doesn't have anything else) he was a friend ( a brother to a stupid loyal boy and a strong rambunctious girl).

He was a scientist, he was always curious, knowledge is the best weapon to have so he search for more, a healthy body was necessary for fighting plus disease is easiest to get in war times and the amount of dead because of injuries will have been high so medicine interested him too his studies probably help the advance of Konoha, hell he and tsunade would have worked together in the creation of better healthcare and medicine.

In a lot a fics they portrayed him as a pariah like Naruto, and makes sense considering his looks and how paranoid people can be. Too beastly, too wrong a monster in making.

His desire of knowledge for preparation become a desire for power, his desire for healthy body become a desire for a perfect body, if people don't see him as one them why he should do it? People become specimens to use in his slowly twisted experiments.

What about the three people that were by his side since the beginning?, the third hokage was the closest thing to a father he had, jiraiya was his brother and tsunade his sister. He failed them even before his madness started so why he should care?, at least in his mind was like that, nawaki was his responsability he should have been more careful and now he is gone (he could make better, he could bring him back, tsunade would stop his self destruction path she would become the greatest kunoichi like she wanted, even if he is never forgiven he would be satisfied knowing that she is doing better) if he was stronger if he was normal if he wasn't weird and wrong sarutobi will have taken his side he will have given him the honor of becoming hokage, but he wasn't enough ( his father don't want to put that weight in his shoulders and knew that people will only saw as favoritism, he will be ostracized more feared more, Minato was charismatic and smart with Orochimaru helping him the village would have been safe and little by little he would have shown them that no matter what he was a proud citizen of Konoha, his son will have been happy if they just have treated him like one) jiraiya was a idiot his opinion not matter at all (it was like looking a mirror, a lost lonely boy searching for greatness and glory, giving mind and body protecting a home that never wanted him in first place, if he have let him know if they have talked before he crossed the line things will have different, because jiraiya would have understood he would have help him even if mean dragging his body to the light using only his teeth)

This is the path he chose ( it's too late to go back)

He is happy (maybe if he lives enough he would found something worth of living)

Sasuke want to get power not for revenge, if not because he is scared of itachi taking away his family again (deep down want to know why his beloved brother change so much) so if he have to become scum to protect the people that he loves more than anything in the world that is fine for him ( his brother though the same, the Uchihas may be cold but their love burn as the sun itself) and he goes to Orochimaru and see a lost boy that tried it too hard to be loved, see a genius overlooked working too hard, see a a man full of guilt trapped in the past. And he decide to save him not matter how much he hurts him not matter how much he lashes at him not matter how bad it gets because he also see a scared boy that not knows who he is anymore.

And I am divided how that goes because you can't save everybody.

Did Orochimaru go back, to pay for his crimes be serving the town all his life?

Did he refuses to the bitter end, dying alone, becoming another monster under the bed?

In a way of another Naruto will make sure that this story is never repeated. Children should grow safe, children should be healthy, children should live past their twelve, children deserve happiness, and if a hokage can't do it then don't deserves to be one.

I think the whole problem with fandom's protest on "Kakashi should tell Sasuke on how he got Sharingan or he was together with Itachi in ANBU" or "Kakashi should tell Naruto about his father being Kakashi's sensei" is that they forgot the core of Kakashi's character, the thing they showed us on Kakashi's first introduction with team 7.

We are talking about a man who has exact same trauma as Inari yet on he told Inari "You know Naruto is actually same as you 😊"

We are talking about a man who was never honest about why he was late and never will

We are talking about a man who faced with a hurting boy screaming "I lost everyone and how about I killed everyone you loved too" with a vague "shame everyone has already been killed 😊" answer and refuse to elaborate

We are talking about a boy who were never tell his teammates why he strictly followed the rule and preferred to be seen as cold-hearted bastard

Like think about it for a second. If we're using Obito's logic a.k.a Kakashi let Rin die while the fact is Kakashis was incapable of do anything in his situation, the OBITO also let Rin die! He promised to protect Rin before Kakashi. He was actually alive! Yet he was not strong enough to break the wall on time and he was not fast enough to save Rin. He's also a scum.

Which was exactly Obito's point and why he wanted total world reset.

The only one who doesn't see that way is Mister internalized-all-of-my-pain Kakashi.

We are talking about a man who did "I will bear the responsibility to kill my best friend" first before his zombie teacher catched his hand and was like "you should talk to Obito because you have shared pain and understand Obito the most". Why? Because even in Kamui dimension he spoke about Rin's feeling, Obito's past feeling, but Kakashi NEVER thought to talk about his own emotion.

(People often mock Talk no Jutsu but most of them mostly misunderstand that as constant yapping and complaint. The principle of Talk no Jutsu is very simple. You said "I know what you feel. I understand you pain too, because I HAVE YOUR PAIN TOO. You are not alone so how about we together find the other way to heal this pain?" to someone whose hurting and acted on unrelated person. So basically the father of Talk no Jutsu specialist asked the Talk no Jutsu allergic 🤣)

Once I saw dudebros on youtube praise that Itachi and Kakashi are the ones who never talk about their pain. But unlike Itachi who literally CAN'T since his pain is a state secret, there's absolute no restriction for Kakashi to say anything about his condition, which he can use to help his students and perhaps other people. That's why in ask meme I say that my least favorite thing about Kakashi are self-deprecation and sometimes he was too apathetic to handle things that need his utmost concern. And I think this fandom debate shows how detrimental those aspect affect Kakashi's ability to properly help his student (that's why unlike those dudberos I don't particularly like them or seeing them as Kakashi's plus points). But unlike fandom who apparently saw those flaws as Kakashi's ACTUAL moral defect, I and probably many other Kakashi fans saw them as Kakashi's disability.

This is Kakashi's mental problem with very understandable reasons that we've shown through the show (not to mention Kakashi's own introvert characteristic outside his trauma). It's not "Kakashi doesn't want to help, Kakashi was being ignorant" he WANTED to help. He was literally desperate to help. But because of those aspects by instinct he chose ANY OTHER WAY than to vocally admit his pain. This is disability and fandom demonize or even overly praise it IMO shows how they treat deliberating mental disability. That's like demonizing someone who has stage fright for not giving satisfying performance, even if that performance is affecting someone's life and death.

P.S : you are PERFECTLY FINE to not like Kakashi because of this aspect. I saw many people say "I like/dislike a character based on how they treat [insert their favorite character]" and conclude that Kakashi didn't treat the said favourite character right, and that's completely fine. But that just means you have different preferance and bias. That doesn't mean you have the ONLY CORRECT PREFERANCE and those who disagree with you and voiced it (if you posted in on any accessable social media and didn't use bashing tag are in the wrong. What's not fine is treating it as moral defect that needed to be harshly corrected and Kakashi is "bad person" and those who like him "liking the wrong character". In our modern standard Kakashi is someone who is definitely not mentally suited for teaching and I think all Kakashi fans acknowledge it. But rule in ninja world is different and like Kakashi we are forced to deal with it. Regarding morality in personal level Kakashi is NEVER OBLIGATED to vocally admit his pain let alone willingly use them to help others. In my opinion (and Naruto story I think) the action that is morally wrong and needs to be stopped at all cost is lashing out from pain by actively and deliberately hurting other people outside of those who actively hurting them first. That's why character like Nagato, Obito, Gaara, Sasuke, even Neji as long as they did that action are treated as antagonist who need to be stopped and corrected no matter how right you think their political stand is.

hi! how do you feel about sasuke and kakashi’s relationship? i find their interactions so cute but there's this thing that i've been seeing recently in the naruto fandom: how kakashi dismissed sasuke's pain regarding the massacre and wanted him to completely forget about revenge.

i agree he could've handled his situation better (when they first met again in shippuden is still an issue for some reason) but personally i think that wasn't what kakashi hoped for him, he wasn't expecting sasuke to get over it, he would've fully supported sasuke's idea of seeking justice for his entire clan wiped out there's no doubt, however, i don't understand why certain individuals want kakashi to be the biggest villain in sasuke's story when I'm pretty sure that he was one the few adults in the show who was on his side and tried to advocate for him

I think Kakashi and Sasuke's relationship is interesting and I would have loved to see more of it. There's frustratingly little interaction between them on screen though, largely because I think the plot demanded certain things to remain secret.

There are so many things Kakashi could have talked to Sasuke about or at least mentioned but I'm not sure if Kishimoto had even figured out those details that early on. It makes absolutely no sense that the whole "how the fuck do you have a sharingan?"-thing never got brought up at any point, by anyone. There's a huge, absolutely massive Uchiha-shaped elephant in the room whenever Kakashi and Sasuke are within shouting distance of each other and while I blame Kishimoto for this, I can see how some might blame Kakashi as a character. He could probably have been a bigger support to Sasuke than anyone else in the village because of his unique insight into the clan's and his brother's history. He might not have wanted to insert himself in that part of Sasuke's life though or risk opening wounds even further. Just the thought of Kakashi going "Itachi used to be my teammate" when Sasuke first declares his mission of revenge? I would have paid to see it.

Imagine him going like "Yeah I was there to clean up the corpses your brother left behind and oh did you know your entire clan was under surveillance? Me and your nii-san used to go through the footage together on the days when we weren't out assassinating people and there you were, running around all innocently on the monitors. I think your brother really loved you" like, shit is fucked up. In hindsight it is truly insane how much Kakashi knew that could have made little Sasuke's mind just, explode.

So yeah, there are plenty of things to pick from if you want to hate on how Kakashi communicated (or rather didn't communicate) with Sasuke. Him dismissing Sasuke's pain is not one of them though, that's just not what happened.

Kakashi tells Sasuke to forget about revenge in a rather direct and not very helpful way because of course Sasuke won't forget about it, it's not that simple. Kakashi is a direct sort of person though and not a therapist so the approach is a bit clunky. However, telling Sasuke to forget about revenge is not the same as saying "forget about what happened". Kakashi is saying that dedicating his life to revenge will make the pain even worse, and he was right about that. Right? We can all agree that Sasuke's suffering increased every step of the way towards and beyond revenge until he finally got back to Naruto again?

Anyway.

Kakashi could have said "we're going to kill Itachi anyway because he's a threat to all of us" but do we really think Sasuke would have liked and accepted that? I personally think Sasuke would have hated that, but I'm no Sasuke-knower. It just feels like he really wanted to do it alone, and if his teacher had allowed or encouraged that I would say that's a bad teacher. I don't think Kakashi would have suggested killing Itachi to get justice either, that's just another word for revenge really. I think Kakashi would have liked to see Itachi stand trial to figure out what happened and why he did what he did because that's his old teammate and things were not adding up with the massacre thing. That's pure fanfiction territory though, and another discussion completely..

So, I don't know what these people are saying when they think Kakashi dismisses Sasuke's pain and I don't want to argue against shadows. I know this discussion isn't new, I saw people make posts about it last year too. I also don't wish to make enemies with the guardians of Sasukes feelings.

But.

Sasuke dismisses other people's feelings quite often and Kakashi reminding him that he's not the only one who's experienced loss was good. Sasuke should have been reminded of that more often. Get mad if you want but Sasuke's way of isolating himself with his trauma, saying nobody could ever understand his feelings while simultaneously not caring about anyone else's feelings was bad. Unhealthy. Making him think outside of his own experience for just one moment isn't dismissive and I get a bit worried for those who think that. Trauma is not a competition where we pit our experiences against each other to see who has the most legitimate claim. Kakashi wasn't trying to erase or minimize Sasuke's experience with his own and I think that if you make that interpretation you might have to take a few breaths and meditate on the human capacity for empathy. Kids need help to develop it and Sasuke got a lesson he needed to hear.

Hate the teacher if you want but he will be there to back you up when you come back to school with a new haircut and unique outfit

and he teaches you everything he knows, including the very, very deadly things because he trusts and believes in you

and he'll catch you discreetly when you fall

and he'll sacrifice his own blood to help you

What's your response to people saying Sasuke viewing Team 7 as his family is “unrealistic” because they only knew each other for a few months?

Ouuu I’m sorry this is such a late response, I was drafting it out and I totally forgot to finish it!

Figuring out the timeline of Naruto is HELL, but from what I gather, Sasuke was a part of Team 7 for about a year. For plot purposes, we don’t really see how Team 7 bonds, but we know they basically meet up / train / go on missions every day. During the Wave arc, Kakashi gives the whole “abandoning your teammates makes you worse than scum” speech to a group of impressionable 12 year olds. Not only that, he’s been drilling the idea of teamwork since the very first meeting. On top of all that, it’s established at the academy that it’s essential for teams to gel if they want to survive on the field (the team becomes your second family, wink wink.)

Considering all of that, no I don’t think it’s unrealistic to believe that Sasuke begins to cherish Team 7 (something that is CANONICALLY proven, and I’ll prove it after this.) His time with his team provides structure, routine, and an escape from his relentless thoughts abt revenge (and if there’s one thing I know, kids need routine and structure, even if regrettably, that comes from being a fucking child soldier.) Team 7 becomes Sasuke’s support system. I’m not pulling this out of my ass btw - after seeing Itachi again, Sasuke himself acknowledges that because he spent so much time being with his team, he forgot abt his revenge (for clarification cos I’m too lazy to find the manga page, this is when Kisame and Itachi come after Naruto while he’s training w Jiraiya.)

During the invasion arc / Naruto’s fight against Gaara, Sasuke calls Naruto and Sakura his “precious comrades.” (Even without the words, if you read the manga, it’s clear from Sasuke’s body language that he cares about/is very protective over his team.) When Kakashi is trying to convince Sasuke to forget about his revenge, Naruto and Sakura are the people he thinks about.

Somewhere between the formation of Team 7 and Sasuke’s defection, Naruto and Sakura have become important people to Sasuke, so much so that the thought of leaving them behind almost convinces him to stay (but of course, in the end, his hatred for Itachi and need for revenge wins over.)

I’ve seen the criticisms and I’ll admit that the execution of Team 7 as a family is not as strong as it could’ve been. But I do think that if you read the manga, you can see Kishimoto’s efforts. And canonically, Sasuke cares deeply about Naruto and Sakura, and anyone who tries to argue against that is wrong 🤷🏻‍♀️

this is legitimately one of my top five favorite kakashi scenes.

i love seeing kakashi break the rules in the name of doing the right thing, and this scene especially is particularly satisfying to me, because his moment of defiance here is, to my mind, long overdue.  

one of my eternal frustrations in early naruto is how the leaf village administration gives kakashi the job of caring for a group of super high-needs children and then continually makes that job as difficult for him as possible.  they task him with being solely responsible for the development and well-being of three twelve year-olds - a group that includes naruto (a walking disaster with a god’s power trapped inside his body) and sasuke (a genocide survivor fixated on killing his own brother), BOTH of whom are being hunted by different groups of supercriminals - and then the village keeps getting in kakashi’s way or dropping the ball or actively ordering him to prioritize other things.  

so much of what goes wrong with the kids in this period is the result of other people interfering with kakashi’s work or being negligent or endangering the kids/putting kakashi in impossible positions.  team 7’s first big mission sets the tone for everything that comes after, with someone else’s lie putting kakashi in a situation where he has to single-handedly protect not just the client who deceived him, but the three children who were supposed to be the clients’ other protectors.  and after that, the list just multiplies:

ten anbu operatives can’t manage to protect sasuke’s hospital room from orochimaru’s minions, so kakashi has to do it himself and then whisk sasuke out of the village for a month, leaving naruto in the hands of a substitute and sakura with her parents

genma orders sasuke to chase after gaara when the chunin exams blow up, saying “you’re at chunin level already,” which forces kakashi to immediately dispatch more kids to bring him back, because “ffs NO i do NOT want him out there doing that why the fuck would you tell him to do that?!” 

aoba runs his mouth off about itachi when sasuke is standing RIGHT THERE, instantly undoing all the work kakashi just did to prevent itachi and sasuke from coming anywhere near each other (and thus sending sasuke to that disastrous first encounter, the outcome of which ultimately leads to sasuke’s defection)

jiraiya decides he should let sasuke try to fight itachi himself, “out of respect for the boy’s feelings,” leading to sasuke ending up in a tsukuyomi coma

tsunade orders kakashi to drop his teaching work and leave the village on a mission even though a) he’s just gotten out of his own torture-induced coma and b) sasuke is having a crisis that kakashi is trying to manage

and then when kakashi gets back from that mission and finds out that surprise, all of this meddling has led to a disaster, tsunade tries to order him away AGAIN

but this time - he just says no.

he walks right out of her office.  he turns his back on her.  and there is NOTHING i love more than seeing kakashi embody the philosophy that he’s chosen to adopt as his guiding light: those who break the rules are scum.  but those who abandon their friends are worse than scum.

it’s not that he doesn’t understand where tsunade is coming from here.  but he knows she’s wrong.  she’s making her decisions based solely on concerns about the Leaf Village being in a tight spot - feeling like they can’t turn down missions because they’ll appear weak and thus become vulnerable to attack when they’re already operating at half strength.  she sends a group of twelve year-olds to bring sasuke back because supposedly the village can’t spare anyone else, “even if it means letting the sharingan fall into orochimaru’s hands” - but like.  it’s not the sharingan.  it’s a child.  sasuke isn’t just a repository for his hereditary jutsu; he’s not a pair of eyes to be passed around from one wielder to the next.  he’s a human child.  

tsunade doesn’t know sasuke.  she’s new to the situation and doesn’t know enough about it to understand how serious it is.  i don’t even think she was still in the village when the uchiha massacre occurred; the timeline makes it sound like she left long before that.  she doesn’t really understand who sasuke is or how much trouble he’s in - she makes her decision because she feels like her first priority has to be the well-being of the Leaf as a whole, not the individual people who comprise it.  kakashi, though, who a) lives his life by a very different philosophy and b) does understand sasuke’s situation, would not have dealt with the issue like this, and if the village had let him do his job from the beginning, things wouldn’t have gotten to this point in the first place.

kakashi is horrified that tsunade sent a bunch of twelve year-olds out to fight orochimaru’s ninja, and i think he’s also probably angry and/or frustrated about having been ordered out of the village in the first place.  he was dealing with the situation before tsunade sent him away.  he interrupted the fight between sasuke and naruto even though he himself had literally just gotten out of the hospital, and then he continued addressing the issue with sasuke privately (unlike jiraiya’s non-attempt to address it with naruto, when he said he was going to give naruto a talking-to but actually flaked out).  kakashi knew sasuke was struggling, and he was doing all the things a teacher is supposed to do to address it, but then he was ordered away, and even though it was just for two days, it was enough time for everything to go to hell.

if people would just let him do his job - if the administration would let him focus on the task they themselves assigned to him - things would be different.  but everybody wants him to do everything.  they want him to be everywhere.  they want him to protect the nine-tails jinchuriki (who is also kakashi’s dead teacher’s son), and train the last surviving uchiha (which is a task only kakashi and his sharingan can perform), and give equal attention to a third kid, for good measure, and they want him to do it without stepping away from any of his other burdens, all while other people around him constantly frustrate the progress he makes.

so this time, when tsunade tries to send him away, he refuses.  he disobeys her orders and walks out of the room.  he doesn’t care about the rules or what he’s “legally” obligated to do.  he knows what the RIGHT thing to do is, and so he rejects his new mission in favor of rescuing the kids.

i love these moments.  i love when we’re shown so clearly the person kakashi has chosen to be - someone who does what’s right, not just what he’s told.  he made an active choice many years ago to adopt that philosophy, and he’s been living by those new rules ever since.  he's wiser now than he was when he was a child - sometimes you have to break ranks to do the right thing.  sometimes you have to buck the system, even if it means you might face severe personal consequences.

he had one of two choices: either save the mission or his comrades.  of course, according to the law of the village, you cannot abandon a mission.  but to save the life of his comrades, he put the mission on hold.

kakashi may have spent a good chunk of his childhood trying to reject everything the subject of that story stood for, but none of his attempts to harden his heart ever stuck.  he is, in the end, his father’s son.

Guy vs Obito: Kakashi’s True Best Friend ( A Rant )

Obito Kakashi’s Toxic Best friend:

Obito was always jealous of Kakashi and blamed him for not being popular.Like it was Kakashi’s responsibility to make him feel adequate. 

These type of people claim to be your friend and claim to be hurt when they don’t get what they want from you because they think of you as their Friend. And now you have to feel Guilty for that. Like what the fck!! That’s some serious misplaced self righteousness.

Kakashi’s a kid whos lost both his parents in his childhood. He literally saw his father dying inside due to shame and eventually hanging himself to death. Is it not understandable that Kakashi, who’s still a kid may decide to prioritize following rules over every thing else? He might have been wrong but I can’t blame a kid who’s traumatised by his fathers death to make wrong decisions. Can you?

But you know who can..?  Obito Uchiha.... simply bcoz he’s such a good boy.

Without knowing what kakashi went through he calls kakashi a scum. Blames everything on him and now Kakashi is living his entire life with the guilt of not being able to save his best freind. And what best friend i may ask?? Tell me one wholesome moment Obito and Kakashi shared together.

Kakashi had his own life, his own messed up life to understand he’s in no way obliged to be more talkative , outgoing and  less skillfull just so GOOD BOY Obito won’t feel bad.

Obito being kakashi’s bff is only there bcoz the plot required similarity. Like, in every team of 3 ninja there’s a bf trope. Guy Kakashi’s True Best Friend.

Guy on the other hand genuinely tried to understand Kakashi before making him do what he thinks is best. He would let Kakashi be alone because he respected his life. But he would also try his best to drag Kakashi out of the Darkness. Unlike Obito, Guy never blamed Kakashi for making bad decisions. Guy and Kakashi had a more mature frindship. They understood theat both of them were different people and respected that difference. 

True friends dont make you feels guilty for being who you are, they accept you with all your flaws. And only confront you when you really are doing something wrong.

I am also A Girl and from Asia *high five*. I don’t think that our standard are so different than the Western but I admit that in some part in Asia, sexual offence awareness is not as good as Western. Just a week before I read a manhwa about a woman dumped her baby in orphanage because her boyfriend sneakily doesn’t use protection when having sexual intercourse with her. The man is eager to marry her and take care of their family, so the woman doesn’t even have to search for a job, but she chose to give the baby to orphanage. Why? Because the woman had a dream college and she can’t attend it with baby on her care, while the man doesn’t want to take care of the baby without the woman on his side. In that chapter, when I read Western comments, it filled with condemnation to that scum lying sexist man.

But when I read my country’s people comment about that chapter, they bash the woman because “how could she dump the baby, isn’t the man ready to take care of her? He seems like a good and responsible man. Aren’t you a mother?”. Yeah because having unprotected sex without the woman’s consent is certainly responsible and the woman certainly have to accept being taken care by a man instead of chasing her dream. Because the woman is totally down to be a mother and has no other agenda. The sad part is some of that comments are from women in my country, because most of them are content to be “under man’s care”.

With that being said, still, I agree with you, Kakashi and Jiraiya are not Abusers. Jiraiya did some sexual harassment (peeking is sexual harassment) at certain degree, but I will not call him “predatory” or “sexist”, like the man in the example above. Unlike him, Jiraiya knows basic concept of consent, something that was explained on the latter part of this post (in case you wanna see it first). 

And certainly, Kakashi and Jiraiya are not “Sexual Offender” because of Icha-Icha.

Yeah, Jiraiya and Kakashi’s relationship is like off-screen friendship for me. Their interaction always felt so mature and straightforward. You know 2 guys who was so different yet can sometimes talk with each other for their mutual interest? Jiraiya and Kakashi are those people. Most times they’re not involved with each other lives, but when it comes to things they both care about, Naruto, Minato, Konoha, or Icha Icha, they chill out somewhere and engage in a serious but also enjoyable discussion. A friendship that is so casual and simple, with no intense or mushy mushy feeling involved.

To not like a man because they’re pervert is completely okay. To be uncomfortable by it is also okay. That’s their personal preference and and their free choice. Each other’s tolerance for sexual stuff is different after all. 

But indeed to condemn the existence of men’s lust as Sexual Offence is unfair toward men and downright hypocrite. Having sexual desire is a part of being human and to deny that part of them for our fantasy of “heroic pure heart prince” kind of men is unreasonable. I suggest you guys to see this so good mature talk about men and their perv talk in this chapter of Kaguya-sama Love is War (the talk starts at page 10).

Lust is a part of human nature. Be it for man and woman. Regarding Kakashi, Jiraiya,  Icha-Icha and Sex Offence in general...

Let’s talk about Kakashi first, because I am Kakashi stan haha.

I believe that it has been proven multiple times that Kakashi reads Icha-Icha for the plot. I elaborate about that more on this post. While he indeed almost constantly carried his smut book on his hand, he never deliberately flashed the content in front of minor or others who might get uncomfortable. Heck, even he sometimes mind his own business with his book and never leer at the real life sexual content in front of him.

Just because he has his Icha-Icha book almost constantly on his hand, doesn’t mean that he was constantly thinking about sexual stuff. Numerous times we’ve seen the case when Kakashi has his book at his hand but there’s completely no sexual thought in his head. 

In this panel Kakashi has “Icha-Icha Violence” book on his hand, but his mind clearly doesn’t think of the content in the book at all. He caught Sasuke’s back from hitting the floor and made an observation about Sasuke’s recent fight. 

Also,

“Back then they’d react to every little thing. They were cute back then...”

What a platonic thought in your head with an adult book in your hand, Kakashi-sensei XD 

So indeed Kakashi reads his smut book on public, but that didn’t harm anyone and at that point hardly make anyone uncomfortable, right? It’s as if his Icha-Icha book is a mere part of his accessory, and casual enough to not be constantly noticed as sexual gag. Just like his mask, at first we saw it as a weird design, but as the series goes, we hardly pay attention to is and so are people on Kakashi’s circle. How can it be called as sexual harassment?

Look at this totally serious discussion between Naruto, Sakura, and Kakashi with the casual cameo of Icha-Icha book.

The smut book in Kakashi’s hand, did Sakura, Naruto, or even Sai even notice it? If so, did it prevent them to have serious discussion with him? Did it make Kakashi’s mind filled with sexual thought and distract him from the serious matter in front of him? Did it distract Naruto and Sakura from listening to Kakashi at all?

Take a look at Naruto and Sakura’s attentive faces and you can find the answer.

I think I said enough about “Kakashi reads Icha-Icha book on public =/= sexual offender in any shape or form”. Like why is Kakashi a Sexual Offender exactly?

Move on different case, the only time Kakashi was accused for sexual harassment except something related to his Icha-Icha book is just one anime-only scene from Kazekage Rescue arc (the 1000 years of death toward Naruto doesn’t count because it’s a Japanese gag and as far as I know only international fans who saw it as sexual harassment). 

When Kakashi gave Sakura a casual-intention advice and not realizing the social fact that maybe Sakura, as a woman, will not appreciate a comment from Kakashi, as a man, about her body. Like, it’s not a form of teasing or anything, he spoke it as his form of genuine concern and just can’t see the problem with it.    

(Btw I just know when I compile this post that the scene is an Anime-only scene haha)

I’ll.... let you guys decide if that’s a sexual harassment or not (and if you do I really wanna hear your argument about it). At that time, Kakashi truly didn’t think that comment can be interpreted sexually (and so I am). It’s not like he’s leering at Sakura’s body while he made that comment, he spoke with a genuine concern for Sakura’s health. As I said on my previous post, there’s a platonic gap between Kakashi and his students to the point that he can’t comprehend the possibility of something sexual between him and his students. 

At this point, calling him a perv is even an unfair overstatement for him. Let alone Sexual Offender.

He’s indeed the writer of Icha Icha series. To write that book he peeked on women’s bath, yes that was a legit sexual harassment. The harassment is only the peeking part, not the writing smut part. As far as I know even in our world and society there’s no sexual offence about writing smut.

He often jokes about sexual stuffs in front of minors, and his choice of words can be ill-phrased. It’s completely valid for others to be bothered by it, because in the end how to treat jokes are depend on the recipient, a.k.a us, the audience. If some people dislike him for that, then so be it. It’s understandable for me and they have every right to.

But if you ask me personally, I can tolerate Jiraiya’s perviness.

Why? It’s because of what you always say, @captnjacksparrow​ , in the end the character’s feeling that matters. 

He jokes with Konan about her adult beauty, but Konan didn’t get offended by it at all, even when she’s grown up. She was just sad by the fact that her teacher will leave him. 

He jokes with Naruto about his Sexy Jutsu, then Naruto protested for it, then Jiraiya trained him with no Sexy Jutsu involved after all, and Naruto let the matter slide. Case closed.

He’s a perv, but there’s no in-universe scene when women get actively harmed by him.

He peeked at women’s bath, and for once rightfully punished for it. When he told a story about it, he doesn’t protest or sugarcoat his punishment at all, he's completely open with it and implied that he gets what he deserves.

So in my personal interpretation, yes Jiraiya is a perv, but he’s somewhat still way behind the line of “harmless”, didn’t step out toward “harmful” and “predatory” category. And that’s why I can tolerate his perviness.

I am not saying that peeking is right. And I am not saying that Jiraiya’s sexual gags and jokes are always okay. If some people get repulsed by them, they have every right to, because in the end, it’s their preference and feeling that matters.

As for me, Jiraiya is a pervert man who has his own bad side, but also has his own good side.

There’s a phrase I’ve read on a book that was somewhat translated in English like this : 

“A Saint can appear like a Sinner when they stepped on an ant, and a Sinner can appear like a Saint when they put down their murder weapon”.

I feel like this phrase is painfully accurate when it comes to fandom discourse, especially about, ahem..... ”antagonist apologist”.

You know what I am talking about, aren’t you ( >,o )

Anyway, same case with Jiraiya. All people on Naruto fandom don’t have to like Jiraiya. Nor tolerating Jiraiya’s antics that was admittedly not always well-received by everyone. But if in any case you’re willing to look past his flaws, he has his good sides, that can be seen by Naruto, Nagato, Konan, Yahiko, Kakashi, Minato, Tsunade, and even Orochimaru. That made them remember Jiraiya fondly even after his death.

He loves Tsunade but when it’s clear that there’s only Dan in Tsunade’s heart, he respected Tsunade’s choice and doesn’t force her to reciprocate his feeling.

He taught Naruto to get stronger for 3 years, at the same time protected Naruto from people who tried to get him, to the point that Naruto himself doesn’t feel hunted, doesn’t feel like a person with a target on his back. In Jiraiya’s side, Naruto is shown happy, bratty, pouting, peaceful, overall a kid that was safe on an adult’s side.

But now we’re talking about what happened on canon, which is thankfully way better than that hypocritical scenario. What if the target knows that you’ve been brainwashed? Then he released you from that brainwashing, without doing anything, because your clothes is still intact. You faint, because you are an ordinary woman who has no luxury of chakra to make you recover yourself. The man is in hurry to catch up saving a child in his care, so he can’t just search for a safe place for you. So he brought you with him, because at least you can’t get attacked (again) when you are on his side. Then he placed your unconscious body behind him, gently, with no unnecessary touch involved.

Now, in that scenario, which one is a sex offender, and which one is the man who has decency to not go further with you after knowing that you have no consent for the interaction? Which one is your attacker, and which one is your protector?

When I first watch it like as 14 years old girl, I don’t feel anything at all. But now, when I grew up and knowing how severe the lack of consent in sexual interaction....

You know what’s on my mind after recovering from the shock of that scene?

Tl;dr : Every person’s tolerance of sexual stuff is different, and we have every right to not tolerate men’s perviness at certain degree depends on each’s comfort. Time for another naruto au post that so long and complicated it might aswell be a fic in and of itself. Why am I like this :,) Naruto au where Itachi runs away from the village with Sasuke in tow and doesn’t leave him behind. Also Itachi is a little older then a teenager because it makes more sense. Buckle up this is a long one.

Itachi refuses to kill his family and runs to warn them but when he gets there everybody’s dead except for Sasuke, (who witnessed the whole thiNG OOPSY-) so he takes him and runs for their lives.

Itachi joins the akatsuki but uhhhhh now there’s a four year old tagging along and Itachi’s too scary for anybody to mention it.

Imagine the fluff and angst potential with the akatsuki oooooof there’s so much omg

At first they all think it’s super annoying but within like two days they would all gladly die for this kid. Seriously they were pretty sure their hearts were made of stone at this point but apparently not.

Kisame is surprisingly really good with kids, partly because he appears fairly calm on the outside without being too standoffish so Sasuke likes him best. Also Kisame could happily play peek-a-boo for the rest of his life he likes the small things

Kakazu is awful with kids but sasuke likes him anyway and he hates it (not really) Hidan.... really doesn’t know what to do. He’s never cared about another person in his life, okay? He kind of wants to kill the small child but he knows Itachi would steal his fucking knee caps and bury him at the bottom of the ocean so he doesn’t even mention it ever

Sasori is the mom when Itachi isn’t around. They would all feed him candy until he fucking died if Sasori didn’t stop that. Sasori is also the one to go “oh my GOD Deidara you can’t dare him to climb that mountain he could fall and hit his head no I don’t care about that deidaRA HE IS SEVEN YEARS OLD ITACHI IS GOING TO KILL YOU WHEN HE GETS HOME MARK MY WORDS—“

Tobi likes to blame all of his mistakes on Sasuke as a joke. Also they all teach Sasuke bits of their fighting styles so he becomes even more formidable and all of them are kind of freaked out by how quickly he masters their techniques

When he’s too young to tag along on missions he has to stay with Konan and Pain. He really values Konan because she’s really the only one of them who treats him like a person instead of a stupid child that needs protection.

“He costs too much,” Kakazu says. “He shouldn’t be here, what about how much it costs for him to stay with us” all while consistently finding room in the budget to get the kid anything and everything even though he’s fairly low maintenance to take care of

When Itachi arrives, everybody tries to disregard the rumors paired with Sasuke being there. Because of Itachi’s overall demeanor and Sasuke’s refusal to talk about it, they assume that he killed his family but didn’t kill his little brother for some reason

...And then Sasuke starts having nightmares. Like loud, screaming and crying in the middle of the night nightmares. Every time it happens, Itachi wakes up, calm and collected, and holds him until he falls asleep again. They all start having doubts about Itachi really killing his family.

Itachi doesn’t really hold a grudge against Konoha, but he didn’t see the whole family die like Sasuke did. Sasuke wants revenge, and he’s dead set on it.

Okay yeah but what abt the actual plot and stuff??? Don’t worry I’m there.

So a while later after that during Naruto’s three year journey (which he still takes with Jiraiya because he needs training to fight Orochimaru who is still a big threat btw) he meets this weird black haired kid staying at the same hotel he is.

Turns out they’ve both got caretakers who are absent (Jiraiya’s at a brothel somewhere and Kisame and Itachi are off killing some guy) which sucks so they bond over that and compare abilities and beat the shit out of eachother a little and develop a mini rival complex all of that but then

“Wow you’re so cool! You fight just like a ninja! You should come back with me!” Naruto laughs one day. Sasuke asks “Back to where?” And Naruto’s like “back to the leaf village of course! I’m a leaf village ninja, I’m out here training with my sensei! I forgot that I left my headband in the room, I can show it to you.” But Sasuke just gets really pale and runs off and Naruto doesn’t see him for the rest of the trip.

He thought he’d never see him again but then Sasuke gets separated from the Akatsuki members reeeaaaallly far away from their base and Konoha. As he’s trying to figure out what to do, a certain ninja crew happens to be in town. Naruto is like “omfg I know this kid!!!!!!!! Hey Sasuke!!!!! Hey Sasukeeeee!!!!!”

Sasuke is like o-o but then he starts to consider his options. If anybody figures out about his sharingan, he’s straight up fucked. His eyes are gone, he probably gets murdered. Naruto is like “what r u doing here????” And sasuke spins a fairly convincing story

He’s like “oh yeah and I know my way around this place so I can help you out could I maybe seek asylum in your village maybe??? I could be helpful” just so he can head in the general direction of Konoha and hopefully get closer to his base along the way.

So Kakashi begrudgingly agrees and Sasuke tries not to burn alive because he’s in the general proximity of leaf soldiers that he fucking hates and he will not grow attached to any of them at all no siree, not at all, no way!

Sasuke begins to grow close to them, of course. Sai and Sasuke do goth shenanigans and he fights with Naruto and tries to get Sakura to leave him alone (what is up with her why is she being so weird?)

Oh bonus angst: Tobi used to talk in his sleep sometimes, and at some point Sasuke drops “those who break the rules are scum, but those who leave their friends behind are worse then scum” casually and Kakashi almost has a full blown panic attack.

This is when he first realizes something is seriously up with this kid; and his first name sounds... familiar. His suspicions are just suspicions until they run into Orochimaru. Now Orochimaru could just out Sasuke as akatsuki, instead he plays with his feelings a little bit. He keeps saying things like “how does it feel to fight on the same side as your enemies for once?” And “have you forgotten already?” They defeat him without Sasuke revealing his sharingan but the jig is up in Kakashi’s mind.

Kakashi doesn’t quite connect the dots; but he’s almost there. Whoever this kid is, they’re coming back to the village for sure. It’s the safest thing to do. Meanwhile the Akatsuki are freaking out. Itachi is unhinged and almost grieving, they have no idea where Sasuke could be. The team is out in full force; including Tobi

And you know, Obito doesn’t care. He shouldn’t care, nothing matters in this false reality. It just doesn’t. Tobi might have given a shit about Sasuke, but Tobi isn’t real. He’s just a front, Tobi doesn’t exist. So why is he looking so hard for this stupid kid that he shouldn’t give a shit about? Obito convinces himself it’s just a front, it’s just part of Tobi’s act, but it’s not. What’s happening to him? Why is starting to feel things now, so deep into the plan?

Annnnnndddd that’s as far as I got with it lmao. That’s still pretty fucking far tho
