gem and the scott's band au in my brain rent free
Just them being not in a death game being a local band is so yippie. All the members just live in one town and all know each other and get up to shenanigans.
Gem came back to town after a couple years and immediately grabbed Scott and Impulse to start a band. Everyone was so excited for her to be back but she was just hyped to have freetime and be creative.
"are you gonna start unpackin-"
"GRAB YOUR GUITAR SCOTT I FINALLY WROTE A SONG."
"i have a shift Gem-"
"TELL LIZZIE THE CATS WILL LIVE WITHOUT YOU FOR ONE DAY"
Impulse just sitting at home when At Any Given Moment A Wild Gem May Appear. She might just, teleport and whisk him away for "mandatory super important band practice" and Skizz just gives them a thumbs up and a grin before going back to his coffee.
Scott making connections except he knows *literally everyone*. He is welcome in anyone's house for dinner and will show up with a gift and some gossip before disappearing into the night. Half the men in town are his ex, but simultaneously his bestie. Scott being involved in every event:
need live music? his band has got it!
redecorating? he can help move furniture AND he has the *perfect* rug to go with your new wallpaper
the theatre needs costumes but doesn't have the funds? done. he has a sewing machine
someone wants to host a party? he will send out the invites and make sure the catering is sorted
Scott being that reliable guy you can always lean on. :DD
Gem bringing Scott and Impulse over to her garage to rehearse and her neighbour's, the roommates, cheering at them from a window. Cleo is sending live pic updates on the three G's groupchat so Pearl can see aswell. Grian half-heartedly telling them they are too loud. Etho humming along as he cooks dinner that they will probably share with the band later anyway.
Lizzie has a cat cafe and everyone loves hanging out with her but are also slightly intimidated - there is no *proof* she is anything but an upstanding citizen... yet
Her cafe is *the hangout spot* and the walls are adorned with paintings the townsfolk did of the cats, she makes limited time specials when someone brings her a new ingredient, if anyone is having a tough time she forces them into a chair with a hot chocolate and a cat.
Joel is bragging about his epic wife at Mounder's HQ™ (a random old building that they don't think anyone owns, hopefully) while Bdubs is raging at a monopoly game, as Mumbo and Pearl try to actually hold a business meeting.
Joel swears he hates Scott but also has all the bands merch and shows up to every concert. He can be found walking around the town playing Pokemon Go atleast once a week.
Pearl somehow got added to the band groupchat and just,,, never left. (Her and Gem spam it with memes at 3am) She probably should be banned from atleast one establishment for silly-lil-guy-ing too close to the sun.
The whole town is 100% committed to telling Bdubs he is short, Not A Single Person will tell him he is not. They have official town photos where someone photoshopped him shorter.
Mumbo has a (not so) secret bunker to do science in but people just come into it and yap at him while he is revolutionising the towns power source. They do feed him, so he hasn't locked them out yet.
The heart foundation is always holding events, fundraisers, bake sales, etc. Everyone loves them and when they open auditions for a theatre production in the community building, EVERYONE shows up either to participate or just support. Lizzie and Bigb are giving out snacks whilst asking minutely creepy questions. Martyn is pleading with Ren to move back so they can be in the show together.
Martyn and Jimmy do something??? No one can figure out what it is but they have Good Vibes so they let it slide. They get a bit too silly every once in a while and someone (usually Grian) has to put them in their place.
They host DnD or Improv sessions in the community building while a threatre production isn't on.
Scar is like the local cryptid who everyone is talking about when they "know a guy". He is liable to show up to events an hour late with a tale and tub of cookies. Scar is mostly friendly but a little unpredictable, if you want a strange adventure, show up to his door with something shiny and you will be on your way.
I could yap about this au for ever they make me so unwell. Might draw all of their designs but idk yet. Anyway wildlife session 5 tmr yay :DDD

The beautiful thing about the Bear is that it's such a high stress show that you can apply it to other high stress environments and the AU works. I can see some kind of hospital/medical AU, or, in this case, a dancer AU.
The Berzattos run a dance school for kids, teens, and adults. They do different styles of dance, teach according to syllabus and some of their best students, like Carmen Berzatto even go on to become professionals. Syd used to go there when she was a kid until her dad noticed her passion, and worked extra hard to get into the Joffrey Ballet, then the New York Ballet before she got disillusioned and tried to start her own dance company and failed.
Carmy joined the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago, being taught by Andrea, as a child before being picked up by the Paris Opera ballet, before moving to the Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen, then moving onto the San Francisco Ballet before finally joining the American Ballet Theatre in New York, this is where David abuses him.
Mikey didn't have as much promise, he was a good dancer at many things, but didn't have the drive that Carmy did, so runs the dance school instead. He met Richie at the school, his mother was a dancer and she noticed his inability to sit still and put him in the dance school, his dad didn't approve at first but he started getting roles in musicals, he's a brilliant tap dancer and could've gone far in musical theatre but Mikey pulled him in. He got roles, worked hard for them but always got brought back to the dance school eventually.
Tina got into musical theatre 'too late', she's been in a local theatre outside of work but after getting fired, she's heard singing to herself at the bus stop outside the dance school, Mikey hears and offers her a job as the musical theatre teacher with Richie.
Mikey dies and Carmy's left the dance school. The place isn't doing well, they could be going out of business. Syd, who's been idolising him since she saw him in the Royal Danish's production of the Nutcracker, starts to work there. Carmy becomes strict on uniform and respect to the teacher, Richie's more relaxed, he's dance teacher but wants it to be fun, not a military school.
She and Richie don't get on, she's used to the skill levels of professional ballet studios, not local dance schools. She starts to see how good he is with the students, he can control the room easier and his students have more freedom and are generally happier.
Carmy decides to up the stakes of the school's usual yearly show, they promise Jimmy a certain amount of profit and a certain number of new uptake of students. They ask Tina choreograph her own section of the show to whatever she wants, she goes with West Side Story.
Sydney looks at some of the previous shows, and some of the previous work of the teachers to see if there's anything they could possibly do and stumbles upon some of Richie's work in musical theatre. She mentions it to Carmy, they talk to Richie, who's unsure as it's been a while.
She's there late one night when she hears something and sees Richie dancing to Singin in the Rain, which he performed on tour. They talk about dreams and goals, she encourages him to perform, but he's hesitant as it's been so long
Syd and Carmy are going to do a duet, but when it comes to the night, Carmy gets locked in one of the dressing rooms getting something for one of the kids. Syd's scared, so Richie improvises and steps in, he's seen them rehearsing and does his best (is this all because I want to imagine Richie lifting Syd like she weighs nothing? yes).
She joins him in doing 'Moses Supposes' from Singin in the Rain (minus the singing), something he used to perform with Mikey, because she makes him feel confident enough to perform again. They get through, make a fair bit of money and get some sign ups. Richie also gets an invitation to audition for another musical, with Syd's encouragement, he does.
Also added on: Eva being in Richie's dance class, Richie and Syd are in suits when they dance together to 'Moses Supposes', Syd and Richie teaching a class together and reluctantly getting along
#the bear#this caters to me and only me#i used to dance#in a dance school that did a bit of everything#and i love tap#there's not enough tap musicals anymore#can you tell i love singin in the rain?#richie jerimovich#sydrichie#sydney adamu#syd adamu#mikey berzatto#michael berzatto#carmy berzatto#carmen berzatto#tina marrero#if you want to know why richie's a tap dancer#it's because he's loud and complex#like tap#whereas carmy seems like a ballet guy#also jeremy allen white was a dancer

On May 28th 1905 construction of the King's Theatre in Edinburgh commences.
Of all the theatres I have been at in Scotland The Kings is my favourite, the Miners club at my hometown of Loanhead used to run a bus every year for the members bairns to see the Panto at the Kings and later in my life I spent many years living around the Tollcross are where the Kings is situated, it is only a short walk from my flat now, and my local watering hole is called The Kings Arms as a nod to the place, maybe I'm a bit biased with having all this history on my doorstep- our pub quz even had a question about the theatre a couple of weeks back!
Enough of my memories The Kings was built by the Edinburgh firm of William Stewart Cruikshank, the philanthropist and steel magnate Andrew Carnegie laid the foundation stone and the Theatre was opened in 1906 with a performance of Cinderella and managed by A Stewart Cruikshank, he was actually the son of the builder apparently the original owners who contacted the work ran out of monay halfway through the project and some deal was done that included the Cruikshanks taking over ownership as the "King's Theatre (Edinburgh) Ltd" It was designed by the architect J D Swanston who previously designed The Kings Theatre in Kirkcaldy,he drew up the plans very similar to the Fife Theatre on a more grand scale.
The Theatre originally had Stalls and three circles - Dress, Family and Gallery, part of the Gallery was for standing guests! The Gallery was uncomfortable and latterly unsafe and was removed in the fifties reducing the Theatre to three levels with additional seating at the back of what is now called the Upper Circle. The present seating capacity is 1350.
After A Stewart Cruikshank retired, his son Stewart inherited the company and in 1969 sold the Theatre to Edinburgh Council, who still run it.
The interior decor is very ornate with nine boxes either side of the proscenium and there are fine examples of Edwardian stained glass in the foyer doors. The present Upper Circle bar area was originally a Billiard Room and there were shops either side of the entrance at street level. A major refurbishment was undertaken in the mid 1980s when new seating was installed at every level.
The King’s Theatre was built as a variety theatre and has a long tradition of pantomime with such stars as Stanley Baxter, Rikki Fulton and Jimmy Logan. There is also a long tradition of amateur operatic and musical work in Edinburgh which for some years now has taken place at the King’s Theatre.
Using my local knowledge a little known fact about the Kings is that a burn runs underneath the King’s Theatre. Known as the Lochrin (after which buildings and streets in Tollcross are named), the stream once fed the brewery that existed on the site where the theatre now stands.
And another is that local lad Sean Connery used to work backstage at the King's Theatre. In 1951 Sean (then known as Tam) worked as a stage hand and this is where his interest in the acting profession began. He auditioned for a production of South Pacific and, now calling himself Sean, landed a small part - and the rest is history.
The theatre is due to close its doors in the next year or so, but do not fear it is because it is getting a major 20 million pound refurbishment, initial designs for the 113-year-old, A-listed building include removing 200 seats, from 1,300 down to 1,100, to provide more hospitality.
A fundraising campaign, launched in 2019 by actor patron Brian Cox, promised to deliver a modernised, more sustainable theatre by 2023, unfortunately there was a major funding gap and then the pandemic happened, Work is ongoing at The Kings after the Scottish Government agreed to put an extra £3.85 million into a long-awaited refurbishment, there have been stumbling blocks, In January the destruction of one of its bars was refused by the council over concerns about the impact on the building’s “cultural significance”. A fortnight ago it was reported that there has been another set back, with the project’s cost rising by a further £2.3 million. It brings the total cost of the redevelopment to £37.9 million.
The major renovation, which was originally planned to begin in 2021 and cost £25 million, was delayed first by the Covid-19 pandemic and then by the £8.9 million funding gap I mentioned earlier.
Now, however, the project’s timeline has been postponed by a further three months, meaning it is unlikely to be ready for the 2025 Edinburgh International Festival.
The 12-week setback, detailed in a council report, is due to the discovery of bedrock at the base of a lift shaft, and will incur an additional cost of £2.3 million.
In the report, Capital Theatres, the charity that runs the council-owned venue, said it was “confident” that the cost could be met through fundraising before completion.
A spokeswoman for Capital Theatres said: “The development is now set to be complete later in 2025, with the first full production on stage likely to be the pantomime.”

Hey! How did you get access to watch the March RW&RB screener? I want to sign up for that, if I can. :)
I got lucky--a friend of mine down in LA got the offer and immediately sent it to me. She didn't/doesn't care about it, but she knows I'm obsessed and had made sure to let all my Hollywood-connected friends know that if they saw anything come up, let me know IMMEDIATELY because I needed it like air to breathe.
But there are a lot of websites to sign up for early screeners (or even just "barely before opening but it's free and free things are awesome so yay" screeners)--note that these are in no particular order; just whatever ones I happened to think of first:
Preview Free Movies is the one I got RWRB through, as well as tickets for Rocketman way back in the day. These are ostensibly the hardest to get into because they're usually only held in very specific movie-centric places and often tickets are handed out literally in person at local malls. It takes luck to get a location you can get to, but if you can ... totally worth it. They do sometimes do early online screeners, too: I saw Spinning Gold back in 2020, unfinished, and it was awesome. Found out later that a friend's cousin wrote the movie about their uncle! Small world, there. Also, I now can't listen to Love to Love You Baby without wanting to kill myself, but they changed that for the final release lol. Everyone in that early screener was like PLEASE DON'T PLAY THAT FOR TEN MINUTES EVER AGAIN.
Gofobo does a lot of early ones as well, but those are more like press screenings just before wide release, not in production ones.
1iota sometimes has screeners, even though they usually do tickets to talk shows (I have seen Taron Egerton at a bunch of those, though, including for Jimmy Kimmel where my [clothed!!!] boobs are on display for an awkward amount of time because Jimmy was talking to the people sitting directly in front of me lol)
Advance Screenings offers a lot of press screenings, but also sometimes contests to see special movie screenings. I "won" passes to a special Hunger Games screening through this site.
Amazon Screenings is really neat because it also does a lot of early virtual screenings. I've seen so many movies sitting at home in my jammies this way. And often they'll have special things to go along with it, like talks with the cast and crew, or for their Halloween set a few years back, virtual dance parties with DJs. Jason Blum was in the chat with all of us and it was kind of epic.
Searchlight Screenings is for Fox films. Same as the others; you sign up and hope to get lucky with a screening in your area.
Lionsgate Screenings are for, well. Lionsgate films.
WB also does screenings sometimes.
iScreeningRoom is great for online indie films. I've seen some really great movies that I can't wait for them to get wide releases. Some of them are weird as hell, as expected from indie films, but I've never hated anything I've seen. I know Nomad is pushing for a release soon, and I can't wait to watch that one again.
Many of these are US-centric, for anyone who comes across this post. I don't know much about other countries 'cause, you know. 'Murica, or whatever.
The other thing to remember is, for any of these screenings that are in person, you have to get there early. Like, stupid early. Multiple hours early. They always overbook the theatre. Yeah, you have a ticket? So do 500 other people for that 100 seat theatre. There are no guarantees for early screenings. I was almost the last person in for RWRB, and about the only people in after me were Matthew Lopez and some other people in his group. I only got a good seat because @machtaholic got there earlier than I did and saved one for me, which, had I not made it in, would have gone to someone else. The workers were going to try to sneak me in regardless because I was freaking out about having driven 8 hours only for the movie and if I'd missed it I was gonna cry, lol. Also, the hotel next to the theatre is where the munchkins from the Wizard of Oz were housed during film, so. Learned something while there, ha.
But also, there was no notice on it. Like, I found out on Tuesday that the screener was on Wednesday and I had to get myself to LA immediately if I had any hope of making it. For the really early ones, if you don't live in the city it's held in, you have to be ready to get up and go. Immediately. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, and hope your boss is really cool with you just not coming in.
Caveat: a lot of those super early ones, they won't even advertise those films to you as you're "out of market" for their research purposes. If it hadn't been for my friend living in the proper market, I'd have never known. It's the same way I was invited to a crazy early screening of Argylle (but from a different friend), even though I couldn't make it to that one because the timing just didn't work. So if you live in Boise and the movie's screening in Seattle, you're not going to even know about it.
Also also, there are age and gender limits on some of these. The woman and her daughter behind me in line, mom couldn't get into RWRB because she was one year past the age cutoff. Conversely, some movies you need to have children of a certain age. Keep that in mind when signing up for the really early ones. The press screeners are rarely that picky, though they did actually ID check for Kingsman (no others, not even other R rated films).
The more you sign up for, the more you redeem, the more you get invited to others. There have been many times where I have to choose which screening I feel like seeing because I've got offers for two or three films on the same night. Conversely, there have been times where I'm a greedy brat and go see the same movie across multiple screeners, but that's only happened like ... twice, because it was Eddie the Eagle, and three of my friends wanted to go but never on the same night, so I took them different times lol, and then the other was for The Wedding Ringer, which was never full so it didn't matter.
And I know there are other sites out there, but these are the ones I'm signed up on that I can recall. I get a lot of emails from these ones, and thus more chances to see films early.
Also sorry if my links are broken. I'm pretty sure I did them right but who even knows anymore lol.

i forgot you can't edit draft ask answers so i have to answer a photo sorry!
what are my opinions on it? i think it's excellent and i wish i could see it live (if someone knows a theatre where it's being staged let me know). mostly i like how deeply interested it is in language and in the dynamics of colonisation. im not necessarily a genius at literary analysis but here were the things that set my brain spinning. under the cut because this got long
1. Language
there are multiple languages at play here. all of the people of baile beag speak irish and only the master of the hedge school and his sons speak english. but hugh also knows greek and latin! his sons clearly also understand a great deal of latin. the infant prodigy is also fluent in classical greek and latin. many of the attendees at the hedge school also understand bits of latin, as far as i remember they all engage in hugh's call and response game. these are not stupid people, they are all clearly capable of engaging with other languages and understanding them. it's just that english is not one of those languages. meanwhile the soldiers are all monoglots who can only speak english. this is underlined by my one of my favourite exchanges in the play where jimmy asks "Nonne Latine loquitar?" and lancey responds "I do not speak Gaelic, sir." the soldier cannot communicate with the locals and they are viewed with suspicion. because the two groups cannot communicate with each other without an intermediary the tension build until it climaxes at the end of the play. i also think it's notable that the only soldier who does engage with the irish language is the only one who gets invited to the dance. it's also interesting that he's the one who's goes missing at the end.
2. Owen and Anglicisation
speaking of intermediaries, this brings us to the character of owen! there are three characters in this play who speak both english and irish fluently. hugh the schoolmaster, manus his son who assists him and owen, the son who left to work in dublin and seems to have been hired by the british army while he was there. he is such an interesting character as he seems to embody the process of anglicisation in the play. im going to get more into his role in expanding the themes of translation as a site of colonisation later but his main job seems to be assisting in anglicising the place names in the area. since he knows irish he can read out the names and give their literal translation so the soldiers know what their options are for changing them. but owen himself is literally anglicised! when they first arrive, both yolland and lancey refer to him as "roland" because they are unfamiliar with his actual name. and it reveals how little they know or respect him as a person (esp lancey). they can't even get his name right and they don't care to. the army has flattened him into the utilitarian role they need him for. which is owen is helping them to do with the place names! they are literally making an ordnance survey for military purposes. the old names are too difficult for soldiers to find their way around so they're changing them to make it easier. and they flatten them to this end. droim dubh literally means black ridge but it gets changed to drom duff which means... nothing. or bun na habhann (mouth of the river) becomes burnfoot which has no link to the actual location in question and mostly is chosen because it sounds nicer than banowen. there is an earlier conversation with his brother where own dismisses the changing of his name, saying "it's only a name. it's still the same me, isn't it?" which seems to the same thought process he goes through with these places. the place stays the same so who cares about the name? this argument is refuted by owen himself in the most significant moment of this scene: the conversation about tobair vree. owen is mostly defending himself here but there is the sense that he does care about the history of the area, that he does feel guilty about what he's doing. and that whole passage is a statement about what is happening. that this process of renaming is erasing a people, a memory, and a history. significantly, it is only after this outburst that he can correct yolland about his own name.
Translation
owen again, what a guy. anyway this play is deeply interested in how translation functions. it's not a purely negative portrayal, hugh's opening scenes are full of little translation games where he invites his students to translate his words back to him. he gives a latin word or phrase and so the whole room participates in this process of making meaning across languages. when jimmy is trying to get his point about athene across he translates portions of the odyssey to hugh, to include him in his reading, to let him understand what is being said. he calls her "the flashing-eyed Athene". translation can be inclusive here. but when owen is asked to translate lancey's words to the students in the hedge school, there is another side of translation. the sharp edge of the blade if you will. he softens lancey's words, he omits information about the military nature of the project, he mistranslates. this is pointed out to him by his brother manus but he shakes it off with some off the cuff quote about uncertain and incipient meaning. the intent of the translator really does matter.
im tired so im gonna stop here but i have so many more thoughts that i could keep going with: yolland' imperial family and how he can't escape that baggage even though he tries, lancey threatening the community with yolland as an excuse, manus' disdain for english and how he literally flees to an irish-speaking island, the new national school and how everyone will speak english (attendance mandatory), hugh not being chosen as schoolmaster, maire viewing english as a way to get out and advance socially, the heartbreaking passage about norfolk and where yolland is from, yolland's own disappearance as a symbol for the souring relations between the army as an enforcer of empire and the locals, the donnelly twins hanging like the sword of damocles over the play, the death of the baby, things that were jokes at the start of the play being deadly serious at the end, hugh always forgetting his third point just like the play leaves so many threads hanging at the end, etc. etc.

What jobs do the character have since their in their twenties and thirties
I believe this was regarding the Digimon au and I had put off answering because I had been in the middle of changing a bunch of their careers around! I still don't have them all figured out but I can give most of them!
Originally all the characters were meant to have techy careers, because it played into the initial plot I had. But then I realized I just,,, didn't want to do that and I changed it so they could have whatever careers worked best to my brain.
I'll put them all below the cut! They're all subject to change though ofc
So here's a screenshot of the sheet:
and I'm just gonna write it al out with some explanation and stuff for funsies.
Okay, so Bdubs has to work with horses he just deserves that. Professional horse girl. I don't have any extra reasoning or specifics, I just think he deserves it.
BigB I'm less sure about. His career has stayed the same from when I gave everyone tech jobs and I'm not sure how to feel about it. He's a Web Designer and he just lies for fun about being a top secret hacker agent because him gaslighting people is really funny... However I'm not sure how much I actually like this real career for him and if I can think of something more relevant to him or to the plot maybe I'll change it. Making him a baker felt like a copout but maybe it is more on brand? Idk. Maybe taking him more on rout with what i have with Martyn where BigB also has a closeness with his memories of the Digital World. His gaslighting stemming from just habitually learning to lie about the experience knowing it wasn't believed and in fact is the closest to having found his connection to the digital world again despite Martyn's fervent efforts....
Etho runs a small local tech repair shop, as suggested by one of my discords! the idea was that he's the local recluse with the small town shop but he really is a wiz. He can fix basically anything he's just insane no one knows how he does it. He's making it work though. this ofc contrasts the fact he has the most insane persona tech setup imaginable.
Scar is playing into the Hotguy bit! he's a TV and Movie celebrity! A former stunt actor, lots of action movies n stuff! Big big name and face :]
Grian is a white hat hacker, also from when everyone had tech jobs. I still kinda like this for him though, the idea of his job being him trying to break things. Really putting a new spin of something being Grian proof lol
Martyn is actually really important! A Feedback Tester for DataStream's Games company! His life has been really guided by his childhood Digimon experience and his closeness to his gaming industry has a lot to do with him holding onto the Digital world and trying to find it again!
Mumbo I admittedly have no idea why I made him a Security Engineer? maybe to do with the vault shenanigans in Season 9? I really don't know, this should maybe change...
Pearl cleaning lady eternal, I love her being the trash lady its so fun <33
Rendog... i have no clue why he's a carpenter. Maybe I change him to do more with television shows, scriptwriting or even just theatre! he needs the enrichment of acting and storytelling hm
Skizz as a dog Trainer was a Suggestion I don't remember the context for either to be honest so It might change unless I can remember why I decided that. I think it was about him being social/friendly/helpful?? But idk. I'm watching him for Hermitcraft10 now so maybe I'll get better ideas.
Scott is a florist! Big 3rd life energy, I love making Scott a florist! He likes pretty things and design and I associate most of his characters with flowers so this felt sweet! Especially since Flower Husbands is kinda important to me and is prevalent to this au for a while...
Jimmy is a ranch hand for very similar reasons to Scott being a florist! He handled the cows a lot in 3rd life, and then later in double life ofc his rancher thing! (Ranchers are also important eventually, potential Flower Ranchers happening) . I also think an emphasis on Jimmy having a connection with caring for animals connects with his own childhood experiences in the Digital World and helps in later adventures :]
Tango designing and running escape rooms was just such a funny idea to me I couldn't not make it real. It also serves a good use later during adventures when they're dealing with puzzles and what are essentially games. His problem solving and designs brain helps a lot in their actual adventures :]
Cleo I really hate making her a teacher to be honest I want to change it. I feel like making her a teacher is a copout just because she used to be a teacher irl? maybe making her a yoga or a gym instructor would be better since it plays into that one skin of hers and her season 8 stuff! Hmmm
Finally, Gem! Pro Valorant Legendary player was mostly a joke, but the general idea is that she is an extremely proficient competitive gamer! She wins like, big competitions and as a good online following! I wouldn't normally make these characters gamers, but I think it works for Gem in the context of the au and will help when she's eventually involved because she, like Martyn, will have good video game knowledge that can help with the adventures!
Joel Lizzie and Impulse I have nothing for. I might've at some point, but evidentially bailed and am back at zero for them :/ i like making Joel an artist of some kind in aus because the Mezalean king being a sculptor and all that, but idk... Need more thinking
Anyways way too long post, thats everything lol

sorry it’s a lot but I’m also not sorry
Hi hi hi @goosetown5! Thanks so much the ask 😊Don't be sorry at all, I'm so pleased to chat to you about Muse!
2. What's a Muse song that sounds better live than in the studio?
Without a doubt, Verona, that's the first song that comes to my mind! I had the pleasure of seeing it live, it's a literal religious experience. Matt lost in the sauce, eyes closed, playing guitar on the verses. My gig had a really good crowd too, so in my mind, I'll always remember Verona now with the chorus of fans singing, "I neeeeed you sooo" in a slight French accent, the reverb around the stadium on Matt's guitar and just how much bigger the song sounds live: you can feel the drums under your skin, in your chest, in your bones. Confetti blasted out into the air just after Matt belts the chorus, blue light lights up the stadium, hands are in the air, ugh. Beautiful. It's an experience just listening to the song in normal everyday life can't recreate. It's a great song otherwise, lyrically it's my favourite on the album, but holy shit you can't return to the studio version after the experience of seeing it live :) I need to experience this song again!
Eyes closed, just lost in the sauce guitar line.
EDIT: My pictures don't half do this moment justice, so enjoy these pics from @prttyinpvnk!
Pretty special, eh?
11. Favourite song that's never been played live?
Falling Away With You. I love that song so much, the way it transitions between the verses and the choruses, such agitation on that chorus, the change from a major -> minor feel, the synths, the lyrics; oh, rip my heart out! I'll never understand why Muse have never played it live. I guess, technically the did almost play it... that one time at an iHeart Radio gig or festival or something in 2018 that Matt began playing its intro on the acoustic guitar and then went "nah, just kidding" and began playing Something Human. Matt why would you toy with our hearts like that </3 They've teased it a few times before.
Map Of Your Head is another. Muse can write such addictive pop songs! (I would also want to say Falling With The Crowd because that's an old one from one of those demos that we have no live footage/audio of, but it was supposedly played regularly in 1997. It's quite fully formed for a song of that era, it's a proper song with verse-chorus-bridge-outro, and I think it's a tune. The problem is, it wasn't played at the one and only 1997 gig we have audio of*, Plymouth's Soundwaves Festival, that was taped by a friend of Muse's off a radio live broadcast locally in Plymouth. And there are no known setlists on which it appears, so has it ever been played live? Who knows.)
*Update, nevermind I found out we have a tiny clip of video footage by someone who saw Muse at a different gig in 1997! It's 50 seconds long, the videotaper seems to have been keener on recording Dom, and it's of the song Boredom. No mention of Falling With The Crowd on the set though. Still, what a treat, it's from so long ago, Matt wasn't nearly the performer he would shortly become. I'll make a different post about that though, so that I actually answer your ask here!
14. Favourite live riff/jam/intro/outro?
I love this question because I've been thinking about it recently! 😊
The improvised, extended Jimmy Jam riff at Wembley before Time Is Running Out. What annoyed me for years is that they split up the clip on the Muse Youtube in ~2015 to separately have the Jimmy Jam riff as one video and TIRO as another, and they fade Jimmy Jam out and that got stuck in my head without the ending. I should make a proper edit of it from HAARP because that jam is my jam, I love it!
Also, how it ends is so cool:
A second favourite is the outro to Assassin played at the Mayan Theatre in 2015 (Theater?), it's so fuzzy it's so filthy, it's so heavy I could listen to it all day. Drones was a good era for Muse's slow-heavy/chugging stuff that The Handler kicked off. I don't know the name of this riff, but it's so good.
And I must mention the riff played during the French 1999 Olaive interview, where the interviewers asked Matt questions and he had to reply by largely playing his guitar, an acoustic, and it was so beautiful despite Matt being really young and nervous, that one of the interviewers told him at the end of the interview that there was magic in his guitar (how poetic the French were, but he's right!). I'm not cheating on this question though, it is a legitimate intro because they brought it back years later and opened Unintended at Wembley with this piece, but transposed higher. It's a classical guitar etude by Cuban composer Leo Brouwer.
(And of course, some classics - Helsinki/Glasgow jam -> bringing bagpipes to a stadium rock gig and then playing Muse fuzzy bluesy hard rock under it is something I admire so fucking much)
32. Have you ever followed Matt's advice to not give a fuck if people think you're a pretentious wanker?
Yes, definitely, and the realisation came for me more from an off-stage moment rather than one on stage, because I guess in some ways you personally can write off on-stage ambition and personas as just something that's easier to do on stage, a place for theatre, but the fact that Matt just lives his life without shame, without feeling self-conscious, without giving a fuck what anyone else may think— I'm learning that from him, and it significantly came from this moment back in 2014:
He's out there living his best life, unbothered. He's knows not to care what anyone else thinks of him (and my respect for him just skyrocketed after this). That made it click for me, just don't give a fuck, don't care if anyone thinks you're a pretentious wanker, cut all the hangups in life—don't be afraid to be yourself! I've kept that in mind since 😊
36. Favourite song to sing along to.
Hm, I suppose it depends on the setting! In a stadium, hanging onto people, bouncing around, headbanging, screaming together "No one's gonna take me alive..." is a life-affirming experience!
Otherwise at home, on your own, a really satisfying vocal part to sing... I'd say a lot of Matt's falsetto bits are so much fun to try and do because you can lose your head and turn into an absolute diva for 20 seconds, I highly recommend trying it with no shame (refer to Q. 32!) And have I tried Micro Cuts out loud? Yeah, while fearing for my life I have lmao. Don't need neighbours calling the paramedics on me! Supermassive Black Hole is fun to try and sing along to (multiple parts). I Belong To You is nice. Showbiz is fun. Undisclosed Desires is another, Screenager too. Dead Inside is so good to sing along to! (and we haven't even got into singing riffs live, something Matt noted Muse fans do a lot live :D)
You're so right, I love this question too! 😊 (Side fun fact, a singer friend of mine told me that Time Is Running Out sung properly is actually quite technically difficulut— it's an acceptable Grade 5 piece to perform on Trinity College vocal exams (the rockschool ones))
45. Tell me a little-known fact about Muse
Oh, yes please! (not the song :P) I've been hoping someone would ask this one :)
Here's one I've decided on at random: Muse played a gig away in North Devon on Matt's 17th birthday. Someone found a poster for the gig years later in like 2008, look at how Muse sometimes stylised their name—quite psychedelic! This was on 9 June 1995, in Torrington.
51. Dom - bleach blond era, 90s slacker-band, wraparound shades era, surfer dude era, Drones black hair era, 2022 'pornstache' baby blue hair era, or 2006 aviators era?
Do you know what, I'm partial to aviators Dom. I'm so fucking partial to aviators Dom. But I think we all know which picture from Dom's Instagram I had in mind when I typed up "surfer dude-era Dom", don't we?
59. Favourite Muse accessory? (Matt's OOS era thick necklace, the guitar-pick necklace, any rings, etc.)
Very partial to the pick-necklace! Independently of Matt, I'd been doing it myself for years, so I was delighted to find that Matt had a pick necklace phase too (except mine is very DIY: it's a pick held together to a chain with paperclips lmao. I haven't lost the pick in 7 years so clearly it works... happy to show pictures of it if you like!)
Matt's 2006-era braces are a top notch accessory too, that was a really good look! I picked up a fondness of scarves from him too, which was also mostly BHAR-era photoshoots as well. Glitter in Matt's hair, A+ accessory; love it.
That time someone stuck a star on Matt's forehead
And of course, Matt's sunglasses. I wouldn't be the "Matt wearing his sunglasses on his head like my mum" blog if I didn't mention that.
(^3 pairs! of sunglasses!)
(This got quite Matt-heavy, didn't it? I love Dom's ever-expanding shades of trousers too! Orange is the latest one the WOTP tour has blessed us with :) Not really an accessory though, is it? Otherwise I'd be able to openly drool over Matt's cool jackets.)
#this was fun!#asks#muse asks#it's (not) too much to ask#niche muse asks#muse nitty gritties asks#muse band#musers#muse#long post#but utterly fun to do :)#hey thanks for this! 😊

Evaluation of Treasure Island musical adaptations on spotify:
Treasure Island the Musical by Starshine Singers – This is a company that makes children’s musicals, so it’s a cheery little thing sung by children. Doesn’t have a lot of plot but a fun 20 minutes if you want to hear some kids singing about torture and murder.
Treasure Island the Musical Original Cast – This is an actual legit musical which was staged in London in 1973. For better or worse the sound is very much Old Timey Musical Theatre. There are at least two recordings of this on spotify for some reason.
Treasure Island: A New Musical by Ceramic Goose – This is more of an independent local theater kind of production. The full show is available on youtube but I didn’t watch it. The “Prologue” and a couple of other moments are quite annoying, Jim is played by a whole adult, Captain Smollett is a woman (and dies?), and either Jim’s father is alive or Livesey has jumped into a father figure role (unclear). Some weird characterizations throughout. Most of the music isn’t bad – has kind of an Evan Hansen-ish vibe – but there are some songs that are worse than others.
Treasure Island The Musical by Chris O’Sullivan – Can’t find much information about this one but based on all the performers’ names it appears to be Irish. There are plenty of things I could say about the work as a whole but I just cannot get past the fact that Silver is introduced with a song that’s clearly styled after Master of the House from Les Mis.
Treasure Island by XvallariX – I don’t know what the fuck this is but I’m including it because all the songs are named for TI characters.
There have been other musical adaptations but these are the ones I could find on spotify! And the other results on there are either unrelated or Treasure Planet or audiobooks.
Then there are also several songs called Long John Silver:
By Richard Thompson – I already knew this song because I like this singer, and “there’s nothing but black in a pirate’s heart makes me sad but it’s a great song.
By Stormfrun – More of a piratey sound and seems to be about actual Silver not as a metaphor. The idea that he got the nickname Barbeque by cooking a traitorous crew member and feeding him to the crew is pretty fucking hardcore.
By Jefferson Airplane – I’m going to be really honest, when I think of Jefferson Airplane I think of Supernatural. Interesting lyrics though.
By Great Master – This music isn’t to my taste but you guys. Look at the fucking lyrics of this song and the others on the album it’s from. This is 100% based directly on Black Sails. Not Treasure Island, Black Sails. Like there are show characters mentioned and bits of actual canon dialogue. Which one of you did this.
By Skull & Bones – Kind of a bop. They’ve got other Treasure Island themed songs too.
By Lennon Kelly – This one is in Italian and is pretty good.
By Jimmy Dorsey (with others) – This is an OLD song. Fun if you like swing I guess. Doesn’t really have lyrics so nothing to do with Treasure Island. There are a few renditions of this on spotify.
By Ray Lindo – Instrumental piece from the soundtrack to the movie Christmas in Hollywood.
By Golden Ivy – Instrumental ambient music idk.
By King Kyle Lee, Liveola, SoSanAntone, and Famous Lil Ken – Rap. Couldn’t find lyrics so I don’t know if it has anything to do with actual Silver.
By Schandmaul – German. I like the chorus.
By Studio Murena – Another Italian one but I don’t like this one lol.
Long John Silver: Themes by David Buttolph – From the soundtrack of the 1954 motion picture Long John Silver. I went and listened to some of the rest of this soundtrack and it very much sounds like something from the 50s!
Then there are a few about the restaurant, and a few others that mention Silver the character offhand in the lyrics.

TAG GAME
Thanking @barmadumet for the tag! (omg I love these pointless tag games, reminds me of Myspace or something...)
What book are you currently reading?
Robert Anderson’s 1910 memoirs, The Lighter Side of My Official Life.
What's your favourite movie you saw in theatres this year?
I was just talking about this yesterday - time was I’d roll up at the Multiplex and have already seen every single film showing... Now I take my kid like once a year. The last film we went to was either Encanto or Addams Family 2, whichever one of those is newer.
What do you usually wear?
Oversized t-shirts, rockabilly circle skirts, and my beloved creepers usually.
How tall are you?
5'5"
What's your star sign? Do you share a birthday with a celebrity or a historical event?
Leo. I was born the same day as Princess Beatrice, as my nan never fails to comment on each year.
Do you go by your name or a nickname?
My own name, and then whatever my current penname is for fandom.
Did you grow up to become what you wanted to be when you were a child?
I wanted to write children’s stories. Then to be a teacher. In secondary school I thought about maybe working in translation. I ended up in local politics for a decade instead and doing lots of very sensible stuff. Now I make dollhouse miniatures and am writing a book on UFO sightings. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Are you in a relationship? If not, who is your crush if you have one?
Yup, married about five years now. (my partner is very much the romantic date remembering one in our relationship!)
What's something you're good at vs. something you're bad at?
I’m far too good at focusing on the bad, unfortunately. And I’m bad at being organised and sticking with things long term. :(
Dogs or cats?
Dogs. I would like a cat one day though...
If you draw/write, or create in any way, what's your favourite picture/favourite line/favourite etc. from something you created this year?
My fave fic is pretty much always whichever one I’ve just finished writing - at least until I start writing the next one! In crafting terms I’m pleased with the (albeit slow...) progress of a few projects:
What's something you'd like to create content for?
There are so many fandoms I’d like to write for at some point. I always return to tinker with the Superman/Jimmy Olsen longfic I’ve had in drafts for years, but I seriously doubt it’ll ever end up getting posted.
What's something you're currently obsessed with?
I’m deep in a Star Wars fandom phase at the moment. :) Just, Anakin destroying everything he’s ever held dear with his own greed. I love it.
What's something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year?
Tory party collapsing? They keep hanging on for grim death.
What's a hidden talent of yours?
Speed reading. One of the few things I learned at university that stuck.
Are you religious?
No.
What's something you wish to have at this moment?
Tea. It’s getting to the point where I might have to put the kettle on myself...
Open tags to everyone who wants to! <3

The Scottish actor Hamish Wilson passed away on March 26th 2020.
Probably most famous for replacing Frazer Hines for two episodes of Dr Who in the 60’s. Wilson was another one who started early, aged just 14 he started studying at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
He was born James Aitken Wilson in Glasgow, in 1942. His family moved to Cambuslang when he was very young. His father, also James, was a sales rep for a paint firm; his mother Isobel (née Willock) worked in the rag trade. After they divorced Isobel married another Wilson, Robert, and Hamish and his sister Jan grew up with step-siblings Leslie, Sheila and Robbie.
He discovered his love of drama while at West Coats Primary School. Later, at the Glasgow Academy, this love drove him to do “that stupidly romantic thing of running away from school to appear on the stage”. He was soon working professionally – he understudied Jimmy Logan for a summer season at the King’s Theatre and appeared in Peter Duguid’s 1957 Glasgow Citizen’s Theatre production of Enemy of the People.
He then attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and gained more professional experience during the summer holidays. He played the title role in 1959’s live ITV play, The Boy from the Gorbals, did a 1960 episode of Para Handy with Duncan Macrae, and met Walt Disney while he was working on his film adaptation of Greyfriars Bobby.
“I was trying to chat up a pretty blonde extra, with no success at all”, he once recalled, “and this gentleman with blond hair and a little moustache came over and started chatting to me. We nattered away for five minutes and then he wandered away. The girl was terribly impressed, but I spoilt it because I didn’t recognise him. I said, ‘Who was that?’ and she stopped being impressed. ‘That was Walt Disney!’, she said”.
He graduated from the RSAMD in 1963, winning the award for Most Promising Male Performance, and appeared on stage at Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre , Perth Theatre and Dundee Repertory Theatre (1970-71), where his performance in Mark But This Flea was described as “remarkable” by The Stage, the trade weekly – not least because he had stepped in 24 hours before opening night after the original actor had broken his leg.
On television he appeared in The Wednesday Play, The Vital Spark , This Man Craig (three different roles, 1966), Softly, Softly and The Revenue Men (three different roles.
In 1968 Doctor Who regular Frazer Hines, who played Patrick Troughton’s Jacobite companion Jamie, fell ill with chickenpox while making the adventure The Mind Robber. After an ingenious, hasty rewrite Jamie underwent a temporary metamorphosis and with one day’s rehearsal Wilson took over, cramming his lines overnight and recording the first of his two episodes the next day.
Further TV roles followed, including The Borderers Boy Meets Girls (1969), Adam Smith, and The View from Daniel Pike but he found that he needed to turn his attention away from acting because “ a beautiful girl smiled at me”. Intent on marriage and starting a family, he gained more secure employment as an announcer for STV.
In 1975 he went to Radio Forth as its arts and drama producer. With limited resources but boundless ambition, he broadcast original writing, late-night horror classics, and a six-month long serial about Mary Queen of Scots, told in 130 twelve-minute episodes, broadcast daily. Drama of this kind on commercial radio was largely unheard of.
In 1979 he did an adaptation of The Slab Boys for Radio Clyde, ultimately joining the station and founding Independent Local Radio’s first drama department there.
His many productions at Clyde included The Bell in the Tree a series of dramas about the history of Glasgow by Edward H Chisnall; Donald Campbell’s Till the Seas Run Dry, with Tom Fleming as Robert Burns and Mary Riggans as Jean Armour), and Nick McCarthy’s Elephant Dances with Katy Murphy).
He also encouraged new talent, instigating initiatives which gave professional breaks to aspiring comedy writers and awarded contracts and prized Equity cards to final-year drama students.
He left Clyde in 1989 and joined the BBC, where he produced a huge number of plays and series for Radio Scotland, Radio 3 and Radio 4. He really believed in radio: “It allows you to creep inside somebody’s head”, he said, “and paint pictures that are going to stay long after the programme is finished.”
In all, he won 23 awards for his radio productions – his ‘Oscars’, as he jokingly referred to them – and served a juror in the Prix Italia (where he was also the first ILR producer to be jury chairman), Prix Futura Berlin and the Prix Europa.
When he left the BBC after ten successful years he went back to the old trade, doing voiceover work and acting in episodes of Taggart,, Monarch of the Glen and Still Game .
On March 21st 2020 Tony contracted coronavirus and sadly passed away only 6 days later on March 26th aged 77. He worked for many years for the actors union Equity, the Scottish Secretary of the union said of him:
“He led a full life and touched many people. He was one of life’s enthusiasts and succeeded at most everything he turned his hand to. Time in his company was always enjoyable and often informative. Remember that mischievous grin and raise a glass to him. RIP.”
The beautiful girl who smiled at him was Diana (née Baron), a wardrobe mistress at Dundee Rep, whom he had met in 1972. They married the following year and had three daughters, Emma, Alice and Abigail, who all survive him, as do grandchildren Colin, Finley, Amelia and Gregor.
