Moemon-Type Chart

Just thought this would be a fun way to look at Moemon/Pokemon. Please note that these aren’t iron-clad rules. It’s just that these are all stereotypes built up since many Moemon tend to share these traits, and thus are put into these categories.

Bimbo - Normal: Disregarded by most Trainers, Bimbo-Types are incredibly loving and loyal, acting more like pets than combatant. They’re naturally more inclined towards love instead of war-however, they’re not to be underestimated. What they lack in style and grace, they make up for in being a ‘Jill-Of-All-Trades’, able to tip their tools into the pools of almost every other Type. Be wary, however, as Bimbo-Types tend to go into a raving heat cycles; each one is different and when they’re going through it, you’d best be able to handle them.

Punk - Poison: Rude, crude, and often with some kind of attitude, Punk-Types are notorious for being territorial. A Trainer with multiple Punk-Types should be careful, as they might fight amongst themselves for superiority-unless you’re into that. It’s commonly believed that their sour disposition holds a softer, gentler side-this is not a fact, some of them are, indeed, just bitches. Culling a Punk-Type from her bad habits is close to impossible, but some trainers have managed to make it happen before.

Smart - Psychic: While Psychic Powers doesn’t necessarily make on smart, Smart-Type Moemon tend to have a greater leaning towards gathering information. They have a reputation for being incredibly powerful, to the point where there was a point in time in Kanto History where Smart-Types with their psychic abilities were heavily sought after. They can be pretty hard to train, however; a Trainer that isn’t capable of reeling in a Smart-Type’s natural curiosity or their superiority complex might find themselves on the other end of the social leash. Recently, it’s been studied that Humans born around a community of Smart-Types have shown to exhibit Psychic Powers...

Milf - Grass: Milf-Types aren’t all moms from the get-go, but when they reach maturity, they tend to have a very voluptuous body type, gaining their name for just how fast they mature. It helps that no matter how many kids they may or may not have, they have very strong maternal instincts, making them great with kids and often used as nannies when not in combat. They’re often generous and loving to a fault, but a Trainer that can capture their hearts can find themselves with a very loyal Moemon. It’s often recommended that new Trainers start with a Milf-Type, as their more mild temperament makes them much easier to get along with.

Round - Ground: There’s a lot of debate about how to apply this ‘type’, as Generally, Round-Types tend to be towards a certain...body-type. They’re naturally built more towards a broader build, some of them having bigger butts or boobs, some of them having some noticeable chub. It’s unwise to be insensitive about this to your Moemon, as they may start a good rampage if you push their buttons. They may be quick to forgive you, given their softer personality, but everyone has a breaking point-as does your spine.

Frigid - Ice: Frigid-Types tend to have a a very ‘cold’ personality; they’re stand-offish, and more often then not will push you away even after being captured. Frigid-Types play a long game of ‘hard to get’, and only the most dedicated Trainers will be able to see their heart under all that ice. They’re stereotyped as ‘Kuuderes’ and ‘Tsunderes’, and while that isn’t entirely true, it takes time for them to warm up to their trainers. Be sure to keep your Frigid-Types plenty cool, as they tend to overheat pretty quickly. 

Sassy - Fire: Temperamental, proud, and more than a little bratty, that is the Sassy-Type. They’re incredibly stubborn, and love to tease and get a rise out of their Trainers. Members of this type tend to love combat and will seek out battle no matter what shape it takes, be it a Pokemon battle to wanting to fight you over what you guys eat for dinner. Plenty of new Trainers are put through the ringer when they pick the Sassy-Type Starter and find themselves with a girl that’s too hot to handle. 

Dumb - Rock: Intelligence is something hard to measure, but Dumb-Types certainly earn their name. It’s a mean title to give a type, but there is a kernel of truth to it; these types tend not to be concerned with knowledge, relying only on brute force and their naturally tough exterior. They may be a little slow, and perhaps somewhat forgetful, but Dumb-Types make up for their lack of brain power with their heavy heads. Keep in mind, however, that while they have a 1 in INT, long-lived Dumb-Types tend to have a 20 in WIS.

Bully - Dragon: If you hear the distinct ‘oh ho ho ho’ of a Bully-Type, they’ve already deemed you as their prey. Bully-Types get their names because of their inherit superiority complex, partially due to their rarity and partially due to how powerful they are. Trainers won’t have the luxury of giving any less than their best when dealing with them, as with even the slightest inch, they’ll try to dominate any situation. Bully-Types only respect those who are stronger than them, so Trainers will need to display their strength in order to keep them loyal.

Beach - Water: Surf, sand, and sand-witches, that’s the eternal motto of Beach-Types, called so since a majority of them hang around beaches or wear beachwear as though it’s normal clothes. While not vain, many Beach-Types tend to take a lot of stock in their physical appearance. They want to look good and be appreciated for looking good, so Trainers are recommended to compliment them plenty so they feel secure. They make for very charming partners for New Trainers, but more easy going than Sassy-Types, but aren’t as smothering as Milf-Types.

Drone - Bug: “The strength of the hive is the Bug, the strength of the Bug is the Hive”. Drone-Types are eternal followers, soldiers dedicated to a single cause-well, actually, they’re mostly made up of really shy, timid Moemon who form large colonies for safety. Drones are known for electing a ‘Queen’, or leaning on a Trainer, for leadership and guidance, and while some Moemon are more up to the task than others, it’s not uncommon for particularly meek Drones to seek out other, stronger Moemons to follow. Lately, there’s been an upswing in popularity in Drone-Type Moemon.

Goth - Dark: No, you cannot attract Goth-Types with Christian Death or 45 Grave, that will only upset them. Goth-Types are mostly loners, with few noticeable species working in tight, close-knit communities. Goth-Types are tough nuts to crack; it doesn’t help that Humans have persecuted them in the past and, even today, often treat Goth-Types as devils instead of sentient humanoids, no different from...well, Humans. They tend to come off as nasty, but they’re really just shy and often scared, so recruiting one can be difficult for the impatient.

Muscle - Fighting: Muscle-Types are pretty straight forward, with the members of the type pursuing the art of combat. Some are martial artists, some study the blade, and some just love to fight, to the point Trainers commonly refer to them as ‘fightsexual’. It’s not completely unheard of, as it’s common for Muscle-Types to seek out Trainers who will often train them and train with them. Trainers who can’t handle rigorous activity don’t make the best parnters for Muscle-Type, as they can get anxious if their Trainer isn’t striving for strength with them.

Spooky - Ghost: Have you ever seen a girl wonder through a graveyard? You might’ve encountered a Spooky-Type if you have. These Moemon absorb an odd energy called ‘ectoplasm’, which gives the properties of ‘ghosts’: they can turn invisible and intangible, many are capable of minor levitation, and the results tend to leave them sickly and pale, even if they’re perfectly healthy. Spooky-Types are known for being rather mischievous: some being no more than mild pranksters, some maliciously violent, so be careful and always carry a flashlight and a vacuum cleaner.

Toy - Steel: Toy-Type Moemon are an odd bunch; their bodies tend to be made up of some kind of inorganic matter, be it having titanium bones, iron skin, or steel teeth. Toy-Types are also notorious for having a very dry personality, if not coming off as disinterested, they can be rather strict and stern. Despite the playful name, Toy-Types are very rigid and unflinching, with many types not fully grasping common emotions naturally, either needing to learn them or learning to mimic them. They’re not cold and unfeeling, it’s just that they’re not naturally capable of expressing them.

Glam - Flying: Most scratch their heads at this choice in naming, but Glam-Types truly live up to their name. Glam-Types are incredibly graceful, these winged Moemon being able to soar with pristine elegance. Many Glam-Types work tirelessly on their appearances once they hit maturity, wanting to stand out as much as possible in the hopes of attracting a mate-and more often then not, they’re looking for a Human-Trainer or otherwise. For a Glam-Type, having a Human for a mate is a status symbol, and Glam-Types are all about making themselves appear to be more important than others and showing off.

Ditz - Electric: Not quite Dumb, but not quite Bimbo; Ditz-Types are often perceived as being eternally curious and full of energy. While I stress these Types are more like STEREOtypes, Ditz-Types have been shown to have severe lapses in judgement, with some being as foolish as to use their Electrical Powers on Round-Types, who are immune to them. Scientists believes that the access electricity going to their brains short circuits them, leaving them to be rather forgetful and easy prey for other Moemon to take advantage of until they reach maturity. Despite this, however, most Ditz-Types are rather upbeat, with many of them even showing traits of creative problem solving.

Cute - Fairy: A new type discovered, with their name still being developed, but Cute-Types really are just that: cute. They tend to have an aura of desirability, some of them even weaponizing this unassuming trait to lure in prey and showing a much more ‘combative’ personality lying underneath. Their sweet disposition is even enough to dissuade even Bully-Types from working their usual tactics on them-though it might help that their Draconic Ancestry gives them a fatal weakness to the distinct energy that Cute-Types radiate. Scientists are still trying to properly understand what this energy is, as we’re not totally sure what it is, how it affects them, or even why many types retroactively became or gained the ability once the type was discovered...

Maybe one day I’ll have her share an apartment with her cousin Halley, and between Halley’s 0 active points and Anaïs’ 0 neat points, we’ll see if literally anything gets done (apart from cookie-baking and clay-sculpting... girls, please don’t accidentally mix those two doughs up). Much more extroverted than her bro Quest, she’s also far more of a people person than he is. (Jeez, the majority of these Curious kids are hella nice, right?) A Comprehensive Guide to Melanie Martinez Alternatives

This is a months-late masterpost for anyone who enjoys the musical style and visual aesthetic of Melanie Martinez, but has misgivings about supporting her in light of her catastrophic horse shit handling of a rape accusation, or for anybody uncomfortable with her sexualized baby thing. This is NOT a claim that Melanie is ripping off or copying the following artists. Artistic influence is a beautiful thing, something to be encouraged. This is a list of alternatives for anyone who feels they need one. If you question her ability to give a truly satisfying, well-approached pop-surrealist analysis of cultural issues, or if want to find other musicians who are doing just that, come in!

I see a lot of masterlists of this nature suggesting alternatives to Melanie’s music. I’m making one of my own because I feel that some valuable artists have been left out, and hype/album rumours around Melanie seems to be stirring a little again with her Instagram updates. Common recs are Halsey, Marina, Lana, Lorde, and lesser-known female artists with a general indie/electro/bedroom pop sound to their music. I could take hours writing another post about why I love these artists, and you definitely should check them out! But I’m not going to get into them here. I’m specifically choosing artists who match very closely with Melanie’s artistic style (ie music box melodies, cute vocals, screaming, creepy-cute, smooth spooky production, cabaret vocals, and sugary pop hooks), so you can hopefully find new people to provide you with a similar listening experience. I’ll try to explain why somebody who was moved by Melanie’s music might love these artists.

Melanie’s artistic style fuses visual and thematic elements of creepy cute pop-surrealist artists (specifically Mark Ryden, who she’s named as a favorite, and Nicoletta Ceccoli), harajuku fashion, specifically lolita fashion (which draws inspiration from victorian and roccoco aesthetics), creepy doll horror stories (she likes the Chucky movies), American female led goth/punk bands, horror in general, dark cabaret (less visually evident, but her vocal style makes it crystal clear. Her voice also draws from jazz), aaand the 2012-ish explosion of pastel goth fashion which helped propel her to a semi-mainstream level of fame. She juxtaposes the cute and creepy in her production and lyrics as well, and uses this to talk about uncomfortable truths, dark subjects, and personal feelings.

Emilie Autumn describes her music as “fairy pop” and “victoriandustrial,” including influences from cabaret, classical (she’s a classically trained violinist), pop, and electronic music. All 3 of her albums are concept albums that tell elaborate stories, and her writing is deeply personal to her own life. Her life shows feature backup dancers that are trained circus performers who also do burlesque, and there’s audience participation as well. Her song Gothic Lolita strikes me as one example of everything Melanie could have been, but then wasn’t! It’s a gorgeously produced creepy pop song with dark jazz vocals about the sexualization of girlhood, culminating in violent revenge. It’s a very personal song about her experience as a csa survivor that took her a while to be able to perform live.

Jack Off Jill was a riotgrrrl band in the 90s founded and led by Jessicka Addams. They’re not active anymore, although they reunited for some shows in 2015. They merged riotgrrrl punk and feminist politics with creepy, dark themes. Their live shows involved shit like actual blood and candy getting thrown onstage & into the crowd. Jessicka was kind of an early icon for body positivity, too.

Okay so writing yesterday or the day before didn’t go so hot, I got distracted and watched like a whole season of anime and played some magic instead. Such is life. Just found out Halo is out so I’m gonna try to chug through some catchup before I start playing. 

So it’s been about two or three weeks. What kinda cool shit have I done lately? 

Emo karaoke was fucking wild. I looked great, got this new eyeliner that’s hella easy to put on and got tons of compliments on it. And when I sang people told me it was beautiful and that it inspired them to go all out. This was the Emo Karaoke with the band and it felt fucking great being up there on stage with it. I need to try harder to get into a band I think. I also met a girl Bridgette there, she’s into emo guys and video games and a little bit of bdsm stuff, but she’s got a boyfriend and lives out in greensboro or something so just a friend lol. Really cute though, and she complimented me the hardest on my guyliner and nail polish so I love her lol. Been watching her a little on twitch.  But that night was sick. I left with my friend V who I had met at goth night, and we went to Ruby to postgame. Sheee didn’t really seem like she was super into me. So I started dancing with this cute short girl with that long hair-half head shaved look and we made out for a while. Got her number and tried to hit her up the next day but she didn’t respond womp womp.

Though really I’m crushing on that girl Nikki because her memes are the dankest on my timeline. Gotta ask Jordan to hook me up lol.

The next day I spent with Skylar and Nic, we took a tiny bit of acid and watched music videos all day. Loved it. Broing out with those guys is wonderful. Lol towards the end of the night Skylar was like “let’s make some sandwiches on the panini press, here’s a cup of milk.” and it was like I was home in coolidge or brewer for a second. Started watching this sweet show Euphoria, too. Really rad. Stayed up til like 4am watching that, then meandered home.

I’ve found that I can’t really do anything by myself until like 5 in the morning. Most days I’m either crashing with Jill and she’ll stay up most of the night with me. Or the homies will be at the cabin til like 3 or 4. But 5 am, right before it starts getting light at 6? That’s my time. It’s so pretty and quiet. 

Monday I met up with Maria again for the first time since we hooked up. Turns out she caught pneumonia, and was stuck in bed for a week. So I went over to her place with her soup, and convinced her to let me chill until I needed to go to get my hair trimmed up. It was great. We listened to some music, played a little magic, smoked some cigs, watched rick and morty, ate some soup, drank some tea, watched some brandon rogers shit. She’s great to talk to and has an awesome sense of humor and taste in music. Then I went over to Helena to get my hair cut, decided I didn’t need to redo my roots yet, and went to Slosh. 

Let’s see. I talked to darlin and found out me being too lazy to sort my whites and coloreds ruined both my cute thigh high socks and my pip the pansy band shirt. So that fucking blowwws. Haven’t done laundry since out of mourning, but I really need to lol. Luckily I’ve got two loads worth now 😂

Since Nic and I got along so well when we hung out on sunday he came out to boxcar with us this week to chill with Skylar and me. Jill came too, it was pretty great. It got really crowded though and they wanted to bail out, so we popped over to Circa to play some pool. But pool was slammed, so we went to boxcar and beat up on some foosball instead. Jill and I are monsters lol. Maybe I’m getting way better at foosball in general lol. 

Weds before work I met up with Maria again, and we went on a little coffee date and walked through NCSU. We mostly talked about a bunch of DnD stuff, she told me the story of her character and it’s really good. Like way more effort than I’ve put into any of my characters lol I felt kinda bad. Though I love my kitty babies. We talked about Critical Roll for a while too and since that day I’ve started listening a bit. It’s hard to chug through episodes though, they’re 2.5 hours and if I don’t watch them all at once I lose my place and it’s frustrating lol.

i can barely find anything about betty’s trash and it drives me insane. their last album from 2002 is available on spotify and there’s that video i posted but other than that it’s nearly impossible to find anything. i originally found them a few years ago by digging through old mindless self indulgence fansites because some of the cute little goths who ran them would mention other bands they liked–i think betty’s trash had something to do with msi, like they were an opener or something? discogs says they performed with them as well as jack off jill and lunachicks

according to discogs, they had a demo tape that i think they only made 100 of if i’m reading the note about it correctly. they also released an album in 2001 and a split ep with p.t. grimm and the dead puppies (which i saw mention of on the sites i found betty’s trash on) also in 2001.

i also came across a band called mannequin porn on the sites that mentioned betty’s trash and p.t. grimm, i’m assuming they were related to betty’s trash in someway because one of the singers sounds like the girl on cut me off

and here princezz ov power, the record label associated with betty’s trash on discogs is listed next to their site. anyway i found seven tracks by them on youtube uploaded by one user and i love every single one.

now i’m gonna attempt to see if i can find anything using wayback machine and i’m most likely gonna lose my mind doing this peace out x

Remember back in 2006 or 2007 or 2008 when...

...everyone had BlackBerrys? Those little slabs of crack were a status symbol in middle school.  They’re also what said middle school admins hated the most. I swear, I have this false memory of a schoolwide “Anti-BlackBerry” day. Like, supposedly BlackBerrys were the enemy of education, and only the vain popular kids would bring them to school to harass the rest.

Yeah, way to demean your own studentry, motherfuckers. Especially those prole kids who saved up their money to buy this fancy piece of tech and are now being demonized as bourgeoisie pigbitches by their own teachers and principals for it.

No, that has no basis in reality.... as far as I know.

Possibly because my synapses are shooting off this connection between BlackBerrys and old trends. Fucking Cupid Shuffle and Stanky Legg, my god. They even referenced the latter in this school recitation of some standardized-test hype-up bullshit— “If your leg is stanky, wash it.”

WHAT THE FUCK.

And then there was that one kid. You know who he is. He’s wearing black and he’s got black fingernails, but he’s not a goth. He’s also worryingly interested in knives. He’s an emo! For whatever reason, most if not all of the emos at my middle school had this hard-on for Naruto. To this day, I can’t help but associate Naruto with three things—

1. Emos. That’s mid-2000s emos, not the early’00s-on-back variant. We had all already figured Sasuke was an emo, but it’s crazy how many 12-to-14-year-old emos fell in love with that anime as a whole circa 2006.  2. Linkin Park. RIP Chester Bennington, but seriously; Minutes to Midnight had just dropped, and it seemed every angsty 14-year-old with a YouTube account was creating AMVs to either Naruto or Dragonball Z. I can even identify what makes a particular song AMV-friendly, and I have this little in-joke term, “AMV Rock.” I can tell or show you what AMV Rock is, but let’s move on. 3. The Two-Fingered Buttstab. And that’s all I’ll say about that.

Now that I think about it, I also associate emos with MySpace.

MySpace Associations:

1. Emos and Scenes. Like, my god. 2006-2009 was like 1986-1989. Except the crazy hair-sprayed anime hair is dyed black, red, and green, and instead of neon wristbands and spandex, there’s edgy poetry, Invader Zim, and skintight faded ripped jeans. 2. Blingee. You know that fucking place, where you can sparkle up any picture. It feels like Scenes loved that the most.  3. My Chemical Romance. They were to MySpace types what Linkin Park felt like to Naruto. Then again, there was probably a lot of overlap. All the MCR fanfiction, my god. But it wasn’t just them. It was any cute boy rock band. Like it was the Jonas Brothers for a period, but then the emos invaded and it was more MCR and screamo bands. And crunkcore. CRUNK. CORE. Crunk music + screamocore. HOLY. SHIT. DID HUMANITY FUCK UP OR WHAT. But scenes and emos seemed to love it. I know because that’s what I kept hearing when I made the effort to try to see what the big fuss was about with MySpace. Fucking place wouldn’t stop playing people’s music. And while one beautiful one did inadvertently rekindle my interest in Sum 41, it was mostly miss.

Those 2007-era scemo kids are now the hipsters and indieheads of today, I want you to know that.

I never owned a BlackBerry, but I assume you could somewhat browse the web and access MySpace.

It Is 2007. It Is The End Of Days. Imagine a scene girl and her emo boyfriend. Living in suburbia. Writing poetry. They have memorabilia from Invader Zim, Lenore the Cute Little Dead Girl, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and probably Naruto. They’re listening to My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park, Paramore, Three Days Grace, Evanescence, Fallout Boy, Taking Back Sunday, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Good Charlotte, Blink-182, Panic! At The Disco, AFI, Green Day, and let’s throw in Jack Off Jill. They’re browsing MySpace on their BlackBerrys, using their desktop to check out the best Blingee images and look for more hair dye. Also, their wrists have more scars than a Vietnam veteran. That scene girl? She definitely has Twilight on her book shelf. That emo boy? He identifies with Sasuke Uchiha, but he always thought he was more like Riku. Except guess what, he has a new idol— can’t fight dem emo urges Neku Sakuraba. They go to school to avoid interaction with all the sheep who also happen to have BlackBerrys. And there’s a school dance, where they get to see their 58-year-old math teacher do the Cupid Shuffle. In their desks, they got to see this... thing carved all over the place alongside the swastikas and pentagrams—

Oh, and they were probably making AMVs on YouTube and happened to catch a glimpse of “Leave Britney Alone!” or “Chocolate Rain” the day they came out, while also seeing a trailer for Halo 3. 

You know who you are. I was always the guy in the background, trying to not be noticed. But I was watching you. I was watching you evolve with befuddlement. Here I am, ten years later. Your neighbor, what a guy.

And I still don’t know what the fuck you were on about. But the BlackBerries were kinda cool. They were the key to all this.
