The sight of Iceland greeted the guests onboard, as the ship enters the 70-km long Eyjafjörður fjord that connects Akureyri to the vast Norwegian Sea.
Temperature naturally dipped to around 10 degrees celsius as the morning breaks while I get myself ready to pick up the rental vehicle. The fjord surely resembles those found in Norway and Alaska, just so much wider in overall breadth.
A much needed breadth of fresh air...

I actually like beta Alice more than her final design. She's really cute.
Also Marcus and his fucking massive forehead and no eyebrows. They did him a favor hiding it underneath that crown in the finalized movie design.

A Woman Holding an Apple
Artist: Titian (Venetian, 1488/1490 - 1576)
Date: c. 1550
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, United States
Description
A striking young woman - with loose, untied hair and sleeves and a richly jeweled but informal gown - returns the viewer’s gaze. In her time, a viewer would have seen her as being in a state of semi undress. She cradles an apple in her hands, which in art often connotes female sexuality.
Despite the painting’s portrait like format, Titian probably did not depict a specific person here. He and other Venetian artists of the day painted many pictures representing beautiful young women, but it is often unclear whether such pictures are meant to be recognizable portraits of members of contemporary society or idealized images of anonymous beauties. Although the images may reflect Venetian courtesan culture of the period, there is no evidence that real courtesans had themselves portrayed in this way. Rather, such pictures may be interpreted as fanciful portrayals of female beauty, designed to appeal to the eyes of the painting’s owner.

Prehistoric necklace made of cut and polished seashells. Dated between 4500 and 4000 BC (Neolithic), it measures 284 cm. It was found in the Neolithic necropolis of Mas de Seròs II (Terres de l’Ebre, Catalonia).
Seashells and snails have been used since Prehistory to create personal ornaments, as well as for food. They were very common in seaside sites, but also in inland ones thanks to trading networks.
In the burial sites of the early sedentary communities found in the territory of modern-day Catalonia, it’s very common to find the bodies of men, women, and children are buried with grave goods, usually consisting on ceramic vases, cut flint-stone tools or polished stone tools, and body ornaments. Necklaces, pendants, and bracelets made of seashells are interpreted as status symbols, that during their lives were used as prestigious objects, presents, and as trading tokens (equivalent to what coins will be some millennia later). For this reason, ornaments made of seashells and sea corals have been found in inland areas very far away from the sea.

The recent upgrading did put the Jewel into a more presentable state for her passengers but I still think its the Captain who will always set the overall atmosphere for each trip.
As of late, I am beginning to wonder if a Cruise Director is even necessary for such trip as I do not see much of that person apart from appearing on the stateroom's TV.

My (kinda messy) mermaid shelf 🩷🧜🏻‍♀️
Started off as an Ariel shelf until my friend gifted me the Jewel Hair Mermaid Barbie and I found some more turtle figurines and shells to add on. I love having a space for all my mermaid items 🌊🪸🐚

Strawberry squid (Histioteuthis heteropsis)
Photo by Paul Caiger @ Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
One of my favorite creatures ever!! 🦑・゚✧*:・゚✧
These beautiful elegant creatures are found in the tropical/subtropical waters of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. They live in the Mesopelagic zone which is often also referred to as the “twilight zone.”
Strawberry squid can be found between depths of from 1,000 meters (3300 feet) and the surface, where they go at night to feed
The photophores within the tissues of their skin produce a distinctive bioluminescent flashing glow which attracts prey. That’s why they look bedazzled!
Strawberry squids have asymmetrical eyes that allow them to perceive light in both bright and dark surroundings. One eye is small and blue while the other is large and yellow and both were adapted for their own unique purpose!
I could go on forever bc these creatures are not only so breathtaking but also soooo incredibly interesting

I’ve been following you for years now and my dumb ass just put together Míriel and Faramir. Between that and the wave dream its making me a bit emo I won’t lie lol
Aww, that's totally fair! And I appreciate the long-time follow :)
Miriel/Faramir anon, I just had another thought that just clicked thinking abt your aging post and Miriel remaining youthful/ageless while Pharazon ages and decays also foils with youthful Faramir contrasted against prematurely aging Denethor. One ends with drowning while the other (almost) ends with immolation. Ok bye lol
YES the water/fire youth/age visual imagery is so interesting, I think!
I've often vaguely associated Tar-Míriel and Faramir through the combination of the jewel imagery and the Akallabêth, yes. I don't think I've ever written about Faramir's dream/vision/ancestral memory of it without assuming that Míriel figures in some way, even though Tolkien never said so. Partly that's because the final image of her drowning on the Meneltarma is so much the image of the Akallabêth for me, but also the echo of the jewel theme.
One of my first fics ever (for any fandom) was about Faramir dreaming of Míriel drowning, and then waking up beside a pregnant Éowyn and adjusting. And it is not only for the coincidence of name elements that Faramir becomes Míriel in my f/f Aragorn/Faramir verse. I think that in canon, Faramir already has some intriguing associations with water:
fára in Quenya means 'shore' (though in fairness, he may have been named for his distant cousin, Prince Faramir of the House of Anárion, rather than meaning)
Faramir's first remembered grief is a dim memory of his dying mother, who "withered in the guarded city, as a flower of the seaward vales set upon a barren rock ... she turned her eyes ever south to the sea that she missed." He was five when she died, but pretty blatantly resembles her as well as Denethor in character.
Faramir often dreams of Númenor being drowned for completely unknown reasons (I mean, it actually happened, and it's Tolkien's dream, but we don't know why he gets the dreams about it in-story—though he's also particularly receptive to the prophecy-dream-riddle). Everyone knows his description of the Akallabêth dream, but the description is still pretty harrowing: "the great dark wave climbing over the green lands and above the hills, and coming on, darkness unescapable."
Faramir is standing by the water when he has the vision/not vision of Boromir's body floating down to the sea.
So it's even more interesting that Faramir's "case" of the Black Breath is different from everyone else's—the others grow cold/icy while he burns. Of course, that's potentially linked to his near immolation by Denethor, but the contrast with Míriel's death and the (metaphorical)(ish) shadow of the sea over him is really intriguing. When I was trying to figure out how f!Faramir-Míriel would get the Boromir vision, I was like "well she wouldn't literally be keeping watch by the river, but maybe it could reach her through some other water association, like ... oh! like the Akallabêth dream! and then I could have her relationship with Tar-Míriel's legacy and everything in it too..."
