hello hello!!! can i request a niamh fic wheres shes dating a single parent and niamh just treats the kid like her own because the other parent isn't in the picture?! sorry if this doesn't make sense lmao
Brown-Eyed Girl
Niamh Charles x Reader
warnings — bit suggestive at the end.
A little baby blurb for you all <3
______________
Emmeline had a tight grip on your hips as you swayed her exhilarated figure across your chest. You had finally gotten out of the house, a Spiderman backpack adorned by your side, and your daughter babbling on about the day the two of you were about to have.
Despite popular belief, being a single parent was the greatest gift you had ever received. You had Emmeline just shy of three years ago, and she quickly became your best friend through everything. Your daughter was a spitting image of you, but the contributions of your past partner still took over her brown, beady eyes, and gorgeous skin.
Emmeline was shy. She was personal and dainty, and only said what she could in phrases of mumbles to people she wanted close to. In many ways, she was a ray of sunshine, willing to stand out and be bold with friends and family. But she was your baby, your darling girl since you had found out you were pregnant, and she was your biggest priority no matter what.
When you first met Niamh, Emme was the one to tell you that the two of you were meant to be.
The English woman was patient and willing, even when she first found out you had a child to love and care for over her. If anything, she found you all the more endearing. Niamh would take her out for cafe dates, and walk her to and from preschool on the way to training. Emmeline would rant on and on about how Niamh would give her the best tickles, and when your baby was near, Niamh was always not far behind.
Your daughter undoubtedly looked up to the footballer. The first Chelsea game you attended was in the general admission seating, amongst the bustle of enriched fans and excitement radiating through cheers and screams. Niamh spotted the two of you in the crowd, offering you a nimble, modest wave, resulting in Emme giggling into your neck and pointing to the woman, rambling on about how she “wanted to be smart like Mummy but fast like ‘evie.”
Emme had trouble properly pronouncing her words. ‘Niamh’ was proven to be among the difficulties she endured, and all her little mouth could muster was ‘evie.’ It was short, and abbreviated, but full of love and adoration all the same.
After a few more games, watching the girl you were quickly falling for, people began to piece together the subtle clues of your relationship with the Chelsea player.
It all started with a fan taking a photo with Niamh after a game, and you were in the passenger seat, casually looking down at your phone oblivious to the photo being taken. At first, people brushed it off as you being a friend. But then, two weeks later, the same thing happened, but with Emmeline nuzzled underneath Niamh’s puffer jacket, her curly brown hair and reddened cheeks poking out from her collar.
Fans were reeling to piece together who this child was, and why you were all of a sudden showing up to games. The funny thing was that the two of you hadn’t even started dating yet. It was when Emmeline started asking when her Evie would move in, and whether she would ever stay to read her a bedtime story before going back to her place.
It was from there when you spent your weekends covered in a blue jersey with your girlfriend’s last name across your shoulders, forever wrapped around her finger with the warmth of your love and your daughter’s affection.
“Mummy— mummy! Will Auntie Guro be there?” Emmeline was wiping her nose on her sleeve, cradling the soft plushy toy in her arms as you held her closely to your chest. “Auntie Guro, I need to tell her.”
The walk through Chelsea’s facilities were long to say the least. The buildings seemed to prolong for miles, and you knew that if the baby in your arms was to be walking, she wouldn't be in the same, happy mood as she was now. “I'm not sure, Emme baby. Why, what do you want to tell her?”
“Talk about something, Mummy. Haven't seen Auntie in ages.” She dragged out, looking around the corridors in search of anyone she knew. “Will we be able to see Aggie as well? I wanna talk to her too, Mummy, please.”
“They might be busy with the cameras, darling girl.” You answered, finally hearing the familiar laughter of the team.
Today was media day, meaning spouses were allowed to roam the grounds at their own discretion. Emme was feeling good when she found out that she was coming to Niamh’s work with the rest of her aunts to talk to. While this didn't necessarily mean she was free to interact with any of them at any time, Emme was more concerned about simply being in their presence, and this was shown when she caught sight of Niamh sitting on a lounge in front of two interviewers, while none other than Guro sitting next to her.
Immediately, Emmeline squirmed in your grip but knew better than to sprint over to your girlfriend. This wasn't the first time the two of you had made your special appearances during Media allocations, so the girl knew that she wasn't permitted to leave your side and wander off in case she was caught with some unwanted attention.
You were fussed with the media involved in Emme, but you wanted to keep the engagement less on her and more on football. You knew people loved Emme, believe you. But there was sketchy stuff over social media, and you wanted to make sure that even with your daughter spending time with Niamh and her teammates in front of the public eye, it was minimal and harmless. There was never a time when someone would ask you to put her in a video or tell you that people wanted to ask her questions or put her in a position where you couldn't be there to aid and support her. On top of these precautions you implemented, Niamh was also significantly protective over the toddler.
If she was taking photos with fans, and Emme was on her hip, she’d either face the girl away from the camera or hide her in her jacket. You would oftentimes keep Emme with you when the two of you were in the football community, but there were a handful of times when people caught you off guard, and Emme was where nether of you were holding her.
Most of the time, people were accommodating in your rejection of interaction. Sometimes, they’d wait for you to keep Emme by your side before asking for a picture or question. Other times, Emme would latch onto your leg, hiding herself away from the strangers, acknowledging that she wasn't looking for attention.
“Wanna see them, Mummy,” Emme whispered, drawing excited circles along your collarbone. You combed your fingers through her hair, strolling over to where you were behind the cameras, looking to where your girlfriend and your daughter’s favourite Auntie found you in an instant.
Niamh instantly stood up off the couch, bending down to beckon Emme over. You bent down and let her go, laughing at the potent stomps echoed through the indoor establishment and the squeal she let out when falling into her arms.
“If it isn't the main character herself!” One of the interviewers said, the other smiling in adoration as Emmeline wrapped her legs around Niamh’s waist instinctively, making your girlfriend tuck her skirt under her legs, sitting the girl on her lap with her arms encircling the girl’s figure.
“Looking bright as ever, Y/N!” Guro waved brightly towards you. “How are you?”
“Yeah, good. Busy morning with this one.” You replied, a collective laughter ricocheting through the room. “She’ll knock out soon. She’s just had a hot chocolate, and the sugar rush will end.”
“She's so cute.” The Norwegian stated, moving down to make close eye contact with Emme, who was already giggling at the woman’s presence. “Aren't you, vakker? Jeg er din favoritt, ikke sant?” I'm your favourite, aren't I?
“Ja, jeg elsker deg, Auntie Guro.” Yes, I love you.
Guro blushed and cooed at that, kissing your daughter’s nose and pinching her cheeks with a loving smile plastered across her face. Niamh took the jacket off, the warmth of Emmeline’s body heating her enough. You watched the teammates continue their interview, smiling at the subtle wink Niamh sent your way.
They had asked Emme a few questions indirectly, asking you before if it was okay. You agreed, finding Niamh’s prompts completely adorable.
Emme would ramble about stuff that wasn't even related to the question, but Niamh would subtly steer her back in the right direction. If Emme was getting ditsy, she’d bounce her thigh in jitters, sending the toddler back into a relaxed, comfortable state.
As you predicted, Em fell asleep fifteen minutes later, quietly snoring, relishing the patterns Niamh drew on her back, gripping onto Guro’s hand absentmindedly. You had taken a seat behind the set, replying to some emails, half listening to the questions being asked in what seemed to be a podcast of sorts.
When they finished, Niamh and Guro invited you onto the couch, letting you take Emme from Niamh with a peck of her lips.
“If you ever want to spend time without her, I would happily take her,” Guro announced, rubbing the child’s cheek. “Oh, she's so cute. I'm jealous of you, Charles. An adorable baby and a hot girlfriend.”
Niamh shot the woman a testing look, shaking her head at the laughter you let out in response.
“You would give her too many sweets, Reiten,” Niamh replied. You felt a blush creep onto your cheeks when her arms fell across your shoulders. “You wouldn't be able to say no to her.”
Guro scoffed. “Who would be able to say not to such a beautiful baby?”
Niamh chuckled. “Point proven.”
That was the last of Niamh’s duties for today, meaning that the two of you were homebound after a few more minutes of talking with Guro.
You both thanked the crew and other members of staff on the way out, trying your best to be quiet in order not to wake the baby up.
“Where’s your car?” Your girlfriend asked, searching for your keys in the spiderman bag.
“We walked.” You replied, taking Niamh’s keys out of her jean’s pockets and handing them to her.
“No wonder she's so tired, baby. I could of picked you up.”
“She only walked halfway, Niamhy, baby.” You rolled your eyes, sighing. “She's gotten the expectation that someone will carry her whenever she feels like it.”
You threw a pointed glare at the woman, smirking at her guilty face.
“She's a princess.” Niamh retorted. “If her feet are sore, I’ll carry her.”
“She's becoming very demanding, I think.”
“She's a good girl.” She answered, watching as you buckled the sleeper into her seat. “Don't act like you're not demanding at times.”
You scoffed, climbing into the passenger seat with a prominent, joking scowl. “And when have I been demanding, huh? I don't recall asking you to carry me round everywhere.”
“Oh, I can,” Niamh responded smugly. Your eyebrows creased in confusion. “Don't you remember the other night? Acting very demanding and ended up not walking properly the next day… had you begging and shaking for me to—”
“—Yep, okay, thank you.” You snapped, crossing your arms across your chest. “I doubt that if you just had edged for four consecutive orgasms you’d feel inclined to walk around.”
“If you had been good, then you would've just had the orgasms, not the edging.”
“Let's not talk about this with the baby in the car.” You muttered, trying hard not to think about the events of a few nights before.
“Alright, darling. Just remember that good girls get rewards.”
You sighed, your cheeks heating up. “You're a tease, Charles.”
Niamh didn't reply, keeping her hand on your thigh all the way home, making sure to keep her complacent countenance noticeable until you made it home.
“You love me for it.”

Interviewer one — if it isn't the main character herself
Guro — *looking off camera* Looking bright as ever, Y/N. How are you?
Y/N, Niamh Charles’ partner — yeah good. Busy morning with this one…
* time skip*
Interviewer — so Niamh, on a more personal note, how is everything going?
Niamh — yeah, really good. I'm really happy at the moment. *looks down and off camera* I've got a lot of love for others at the moment, and a lot of things that I look forward to seeing after training, games, and just work in general. Yeah, it's been really great, actually.
Interviewer — how’s it been with a child in the mix? How have you found that?
Niamh — um, yeah, it's been great. Look, I'm very privileged to be in this one's life. She's my favourite little girl in the whole world, and I just love her to bits. She's incredible, her mother’s so admirable, and I'm just glad that I'm in her life.
Interviewer — you look a bit jealous over their, Reiten.
Guro — *sighs* Emme is just— ugh I cannot even put it into words. She's just brought the team so much closer. I don't know how, but all children just bring this innocence that wasn't there before, and Emme is just so beautiful, and always brings so much light to everyone’s day. And I think she’s made Niamh’s life so much brighter too. Jesus, you don't understand how much I love this little baby girl.
Niamh — im scared you're going to steal her one day
Guro — oh, I will. Her and your girlfriend if you're not careful.
* Y/N laughs off camera*
Niamh — Hey! Don't laugh about that!

y/n had always adored playing for Chelsea, playing for Emma. Chelsea were her childhood team and now she played for them, running down the wing and keeping the game alive.
Better than that, she played with her girlfriend of two years, the two having met and pretty much instantly becoming a power couple in the football world.
While the two hadn't confirmed anything, everyone had pretty much guessed and pieced together and they had never denied anything. Snippets of them ended up over TikTok.
Lauren's hand on her low back as they celebrate, y/n jumping on her when she scored her hat-trick, the two arriving and leaving together, y/n in Lauren's hoodie.
Of course the team knew, they had been a big part in getting the two together so knew the ins and outs of their favourite relationship, making sure that if they posted photos with the two a bit too close in the background that they were okay with it. They always were.
Currently, y/n was sat in Lauren's lap, listening to Emma's pep talk, the manager not even mentioning the way y/n was sat as she knew it wouldn't mean anything to the two.
Today's game was against Tottenham, and y/n had woken up with a sick feeling in her stomach. Like something was going to happen, but she pushed it down and hoped for the best.
The group all cheered as Emma finished, everyone standing up as they leave to get to the tunnel. y/n and Lauren hang back, doing their handshake with either hand before sharing a quick peck.
"Be safe out there." y/n warns Lauren.
"You too baby." Lauren tells her and she nods as they move to the tunnel, Millie sending y/n a knowing smile.
Stamford Bridge was alive with cheers as they walked out, a sea of blue, cheers and screams echoed as the teams lined up, the captain's shaking hands.
y/n shared a smile with Lauren as the Chelsea team huddled, Millie talking them through the first 45 minutes. Their arms were over each other's shoulder, though Lauren let her hand run down y/n's back slightly, equalling an elbow to her side.
The group depart, moving into their places as they wait for the whistle which blows, Bethany England, Lauren and y/n's England teammate starting off the game.
Barely ten minutes in and Lauren's jaw was tensed, her teeth clenched together in annoyance as her lover hit the floor for at least the third time.
Ashleigh Neville happened to be marking y/n today, and the woman was hardly playing fair. Lauren helped y/n up for the third time, the two setting up for the free kick.
Lauren's hand falls to y/n's waist, as if she was checking her girlfriend was okay, which she was. Then Lauren lined up to send the cross in and y/n moved into the box.
Lauren fired the ball in, y/n jumping to try and hit it with her head. As she does, Ashleigh Neville pushes her in the back, y/n goes tumbling down, her head managing to clip the ball into the net as her body sprawls out on the grass.
"Ow." y/n whines, Lauren getting to her and crouching next to her.
"You okay?" The referee asks, checking on the fallen player who nods as Lauren helps her up.
"I'm gonna kill her." Lauren says simply and y/n looks over at her as Millie pats her back.
"Don't you dare." y/n warns her as play gets going again.
y/n runs down the wing quickly, watching Bethany carefully as she times her tackle, sliding onto one knee briefly to pass the ball out to Erin who fires it forward to Lauren.
Seeing the fact Lauren was being surrounded, y/n pushed herself up and sprinted down the field, trying to create a switch up play between her and her girlfriend as she recieved the ball.
y/n went to pass it on when studs found her ankle, the girl shouting in shock as she rolled onto the ground. Lauren stopped her run as the whistle blew, charging over.
"Mills." y/n warned, her captain having been nearest to help her up. Millie realised what she was warning and turned, quickly taking Lauren's shoulders and pushing her away.
Sam replaced Millie, holding out her hands so y/n could take them and put some pressure on her ankle. Once realising she was okay, y/n nodded in thanks to Sam.
"You okay squirt?" Sam asks her.
"It's not me I'm worried about." y/n warns her as she and Sam look over to Millie and Lauren who were protesting at the ref for lack of a card.
"Uh oh." Sam says as Ashleigh rolls her eyes behind the ref and Lauren tenses.
"Yeah, uh oh." y/n agrees, scurrying over and grabbing Lauren's arm, pulling her away. "Calm down." y/n warned Lauren.
"That was such a dangerous tackle." Lauren scoffs.
"Leave it." y/n repeats. "I'm fine, just show Ashleigh what happens when they touch your girl." She adds and Lauren can't help but chuckle.
The free kick was just outside the box, Sam and y/n stepping away as they proudly watched Lauren fire it around the wall and into the goal, the net shaking as Ashleigh groaned.
As y/n turned she saw Lauren smirk smugly at Ashleigh and y/n cleared her throat, finding the action rather attractive to Sam's disgust.
"Keep it in your pants squirt." Sam snorts and y/n mockingly shoves her as they reset.
It took a total of three minutes for Ashleigh to cause trouble again. y/n understood, her team were 2-0 up against the Tottenham side in twenty minutes, but couldn't she leave her alone?
y/n was running down the wing when Ashleigh tugged her back. y/n groaned but turned, kicking the ball off Ashleigh and out for a corner, she looked toward the ref but the woman hadn't seen the tug.
They set up for the corner, Lauren placing herself behind her lover to protect her from the shoving in the box. Lauren's hands were comfortably on y/n's waist, their bodies pressed against each other tightly.
In that moment, Lauren was worrying about protecting y/n from the slightly enthusiastically violent Ashleigh Neville, she couldn't give less of a damn what media coverage it would gain.
The ball was kicked and the box moved, Lauren tried to stay close to y/n but watched as Ashleigh came shoulder to shoulder with y/n, and then the woman's arms came out and pushed, unfortunately wrestling y/n away from the ball. And into the goal post.
y/n's body hit the ground as Lauren let out a shout to stop the game, the referee listening for once and carding Ashleigh with a red, for the arms used to throw y/n against the post.
Lauren however was focussed on the fact y/n was not yet awake, the medics now around her as Lauren stayed next to her, hand in hand as the medics worked around Lauren.
y/n woke up with a groan, only out for a minute, but she had a bruise already forming across her head. y/n squeezed Lauren's hand and looked over at her.
"And I thought running into Millie hurt." y/n groaned and the medics chuckled, asking her if she wanted to be stretchered off. y/n denied, asking if she could be allowed to at least walk off.
"You've got a concussion, though it isn't a major one. Somehow." Their medic said almost confused.
"I'm a tough thing." y/n replies as she wraps her arm around Lauren's shoulder, the girl helping her up and the wrapping her arm around her lover's waist.
"This is gonna have TikTok going crazy." The medic chuckles and Lauren hums.
"I don't care, just make sure you take care of my girl yeah?" She asks them as y/n gets to Emma, a medic taking Lauren's place who with a stern look from Emma runs back to place for Guro's penalty.
"Made a hell of a bruise already." Emma comments, tilting y/n's head up, chuckling as y/n grinned brightly. "Nothing can dampen your spirits, ay squirt?" Emma asks her.
y/n shrugs and is helped down to the medical room where they begin their usual check, y/n too dizzy to pay attention to the noise outside.
Lauren was the cause of the noise, with five minutes to go of the normal first half and at least ten minutes of added time, her head had ducked and her shoulders tensed.
She glared at Ashleigh Neville from across the pitch as the reset, now 3-0 up from Guro's penalty. The whistle blew and Bethany England passed back to Grace Clinton.
Grace quickly had the ball stolen from her feet as Lauren raced through the players and hammered the ball into the net. Emma cheered, hands shooting up in victory.
Lauren assisted another goal and, on of Sam's and the Australian ten assisted Lauren's second goal since y/n had been taken off. The two strikers shared a grin as the whistle blew, 6-0 up at half time.
Lauren listened to Emma's pep-talk with jumpy feet, the woman finishing finally and allowing her to go see y/n, Lauren practically sprinting down the corridor.
Lauren opened the door to the medical room to find y/n doing some sudoku. An icepack held on her head with her other hand. Lauren chuckled which caused y/n to grin.
"Baby!" y/n smiled, opening her arms.
"Hi gorgeous." Lauren said, bringing y/n into her arms and pressing a kiss to her hair. Her eyes pushing down to the crutch and now supported ankle of y/n with furrowed brows.
"It's a sprain, from the earlier tackle, I was no help with running on it, but couldn't quite feel it." y/n explains, Lauren taking over holding her icepack.
"How long you out for?" Lauren asks worriedly.
"Two weeks, three at most." y/n reassures as a medic comes in saying they had let Emma know and that she was okay to go back to the dug out.
"Coat." Lauren hums, pulling y/n up and taking her own coat off wrapping it around y/n.
"They're going to notice the number." y/n warns, there being a number '10' sewn into the Chelsea coat on the left chest piece. It wasn't very big, but y/n was sure they would notice it.
Also the fact the coat was nearly eight inches too long for her and engulfed her body. But it was so warm, and smelt like Lauren so y/n didn't care if anyone saw.
Lauren walked slowly with y/ n who was giggling away with the crutches in hand, and before she could get outside, Lauren tugged the girl back.
"Come 'ere." Lauren hummed, pulling y/n into her chest, pressing their lips together. Lauren licked at y/n's lip, pushing her tongue past her lips so she could sweep her mouth with her tongue.
y/n was slightly shocked at the kiss and as Lauren pulled away, a smug smile on her face as she pecked at y/n's lips once more, the girl felt as if she could of fainted.
"You alright guys?" A voice asks and the two turn to see Bethany England stood with a smirk on her face, already knowing about their relationship due to the fact she was on the England team.
"Hey Beth." y/n said sheepishly.
"Maybe don't make out in the corridor guys." Bethany chuckles and y/n rolls her eyes at her jokingly before she goes out to the dug-out, Emma clapping her on the back as she moved to sit down.
Fran and Ann grinned at her, both out today due to slight injuries. Fran threw the blanket over y/n who sighed in the warmth as she placed her crutches down.
The three chatted away, waiting for the second half to start which it did, with another Lauren goal. y/n looked over to Emma in shock the woman just chuckling.
Lauren scored another four minutes after, assisting another one for Sam after another seven. Emma leaned over to the shocked y/n who was confused about where this type of Lauren had come from.
"She warning them." Emma explains and y/n looks up at the scoreboard and the names underneath hers.
James 20'
Reiten 41'
James 44'
Kerr 45 + 3'
James 45 + 9'
James 46'
James 50'
Kerr 57'
"Warning them about what?" y/n asks Emma who chuckles.
"What happens when the touch you." Emma tells her, as she gestures Mia Fishel to warm up, just as Lauren gets sixth of the game. As soon as the time hits seventy minutes, Lauren is take off for Mia, the girl panting as Emma claps her on the back.
"I should get y/n knocked out every week." Emma teases and Lauren shakes her head.
"Don't you dare." She denies as she climbs over a row, sitting next to y/n who quickly rips Lauren's coat from herself and wraps Lauren in it.
"Where did that come from?" y/n asks the girl in shock, Lauren shrugging as she swung an arm over y/n's shoulders pulling her into her chest. "They'll see." y/n warns, settling her head into Lauren's shoulder.
"Let them. I don't care." Lauren says simply.

Here are all of the cute things which happened today between Lauren and y/n while on pitch - links attached are the videos curtesy of @wosocouplesproof !!
1) OKAY - first lets talk about every time Neville tackled y/n LAUREN WAS GETTING SO MAD - like when y/n went down the third time in like two minutes - Lauren THREW HER ARMS UP AND YELLED
2) The foul before the y/n goal, Lauren helped her up and then held her waist - like the hold was so natural and tight, she so forgot where she was lmao
3) The ankle tackle and Lauren going mental? Then y/n grabbing her arm and calming her down - also bonus if you saw Lauren's smirk after her goal and y/n look down BLUSHING - SAM THEN TEASED HER ABOUT IT OMG
4) When y/n and Lauren were preparing for a corner and Lauren 'protected' y/n by legit having her pressed into her chest, Lauren's hands were on her waist guys, holding! - istg I don't know how much more I can take
5) And then when y/n went down ( i was so scared omg) Lauren being right there and helping her off pitch, only to say (or at least we think) 'take care of my girl?!!!!!'
6) then Lauren just showing Tottenham why you don't hurt y/n unless you want to lose oh idk 10-0.
7) thennn y/n coming in in LAUREN'S COAT after half time and crutches - but we have been updated ly chelsea admin get well soon queen!
8) Then Lauren scoring again, and again, and again, and assisting Sam again and again. And THEN coming off the pitch to sit and cuddle with y/n
so yeah they are so together and all these videos make me want to cry cause these two are so cute omd! 😭😭
°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。
y/n chuckled as she finished reading the tweet, her head on Lauren's shoulder as the girl traced patterns into y/n's bare shoulder, the two had hanged into more relaxed clothes as they got home, the two of them in sports bras and joggers as they sat and watched 'Big Mouth'.
The Chelsea groupchat had been going crazy - videos of Lauren's goals and the two of them together being sent in and laughed at people enjoying their win and evening.
"My superstar." y/n hummed, pressing a kiss against Lauren's neck lovingly. "Played so well today baby." y/n continues, leaning up to peck at the corner of Lauren's lips.
"Hmm, only because they hurt my girl." Lauren denies, leaning down to press a long kiss to y/n's lips, their tongues meeting, y/n grins into the kiss, giggling as they pulled away.
"Hmm, think Emma will try and get me hurt every week if that is the response." y/n says softly.
Lauren huffs, pulling y/n onto her lap and squeezing her waist tightly as y/n laughs, settling her back against Lauren's chest, the girl leans down and pecking kisses against y/n's cheek.
"Emma tries to do that, I'll kick her ass." Lauren states and y/n laughs.
"You can't do that to our manager." y/n laughs and Lauren chuckles, smiling softly at the sound of y/n's laugh.
"Then I'll get Reece to do it." Lauren says simply and y/n laughs again, turning slightly in Lauren's lap so she was buried into her neck.
"Okay." y/n hums, closing her eyes as Lauren ran a hand down her back.
"I was really worried today." Lauren says softly. "When you hit the ground. Jesus, fucking hell. I could have knocked Neville out." She continues.
"But you didn't, and well done for that." y/n says, pressing her lips against Lauren's neck in an innocent kiss.
"You sure your ankle is okay?" Lauren asked, hand running over the booted ankle in worry.
"Fine baby. Stop worrying." y/n says and Lauren hums, sitting back and slouching. "I love you Lauren." y/n tells her.
"Love you too baby." Lauren promises her. "What do you think about not being so careful?" She then asks, wanting to get the question out before it burnt up inside of her.
"I think, I better hope they notice your name when I wear it next game." y/n grins and Lauren chuckles, tilting her head down to press a kiss to y/n's lips.
"Gonna be the hottest WAG." Lauren says with a wolfish grin.
"Shut up." y/n laughs but grins when Lauren pulls her closer.

the lionesses biggest problems against france and my solutions
keira walsh unable to lose her marker
the lack of a left footed centreback
poor defending of corners especially from hampton
terrible substitutions
a lack of speed and players in the box
a lack of creativity in line-ups making us completely predictable
okay, let's look at these problems in depth:
sarina loves a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 looking something like this:
however this line-up has multiple problems. the first is that it's predictable, it is a slight modification of the same line-up with the same people that has been used since the euros except it no longer has the same level of success because the opposition has figured out it's weaknesses.
the first major risk is the reliance of Keira Walsh. Germany had figured this out by the Euros Final. as one of the best holding midfielder in the world, she's absolutely crucial in terms of the passes she provides forward and her ball recovery but if you just put one player on her all game (in France's case it was Kenza Dali) you can mark her out and remove England's ball recovery ability and ensure that they struggle to get the ball forward.
Another weakness is that if Sarina choses to start Greenwood, as she did yesterday, there is no defender with a good left foot and that leaves the defence vulnerable and also limits the connection that Hemp can have with her full-back down the left. Furthermore, without Lauren James, Ella Toone doesn't provide the same speed running in behind in the 10 role and that switch with Russo to allow Russo to overload the midfield and start goal scoring play. It was something that she did multiple times against France but Toone didn't make her way into the box like James and there is no finishing. English is struggling without that out and out striker, and Lauren James compensated for that gap. Without James, speed in the frontline is also lost, leaving Hemp the fastest forward player and no one chasing after her to get into the box with her.
Also loosing Earps meant that Hampton was shaky and thrown off coming on and she has never been as strong at set piece defending. Khiara may be a better option to defend set pieces where France are deadly but that's too much pressure for a debut game almost. I would like to see Khiara get her first England cap in the next Ireland match to allow be more of an option for Sarina as competition for Earps and Hampton. Sarina also failed in terms of not making a subsitution until the seventieth minute and bringing on experience where England clearly needed more speed and fresh legs. Leaving Jess Naz, Grace Clinton and Jess Park's speed on the bench was criminal.
what's the solution?
in my opinion, sarina has to use an entirely new line-up that does a few things:
either takes Walsh off the pitch or uses a midifeld overload that allows her more freedom
brings more speed into the attacking line
places a winger or ten behind Russo with the ability to get into the box
makes space for a left-footed centreback
there are a few options:
3-4-3
this is my least favourite option. it solves the keira walsh problem by taking her off the pitch but that leaves stanway as the sole holding midfielder. furthermore, it gives space for a left footed centreback in alex greenwood but it means bronze is pushed into the midfield which she can play effectively and would allow for speed in the attack but can leave a defensive hole on the wings. also without a clear left midfielder (carter could maybe play where i've place clinton and if she does, clinton should replace kirby). however clinton has speed to get into the box and as does kirby. this is also tiring for the midfield however england does have the midfield depth to bring on in park.
4-4-2 (diamond)
4-4-2 is on the left and the diamond option is on the right
both are strong choices for this england side and i think that hemp can also play up front next to russo with mead on the right with bronze and clinton or stanway on the left. two centre-forwards in russo and mead/hemp allows the centrebacks to be occupied and for a high press which can interfere with the french attempt to play out from the back that they love. clinton allows has the pace to run in behind when russo or mead manage to steal the ball allowing for a quick counter attack. four in the midfield can also overload the three that the french place in the there and challenge their ability to mark keira walsh out of the game. furthermore, a strong press in russo and hemp/mead allows the midfield be bypassed because the four doesn't always provide a full overload. two upfront can also compensate for when russo drops into the midfield and to hold up the ball, this also allows for the full overload with five in the midfield to pull markers off keira. with a strong left back in greenwood who can play centreback, williamson can also drop into the midfield for an overload. a four at the back with the left-footed defender allows for a deep block if the ball is lost, something that is likely to happen if france play in the midfield again.
3-5-2
this is my favourite line-up
the five in the midfield allows for a complete overload that can release walsh and give her the freedom to pass forward. furthermore, there is the left-footed centreback in greenwood. bronze and hemp playing as wing-backs also allows for a deep block when they drop back and they are both fast at getting both back and forward on the defense and attack which can be the main weakness of this line-up however bronze and hemp can play well as wing-backs. furthermore, bronze, hemp and clinton can overload the final third to support the high press of russo and mead that ensures players in the box and speed on a break to that can work quickly to throw off a french defense and a build up of play from the back
i think this will solve a lot of england's problems going forward and back and release keira walsh in the midfield as well as throwing france off with a new line-up that they wouldn't be expecting
i would also like to see jess park and aggie beever-jones up front to provide support as a striker for alessia russo or speed in behind replacing grace clinton

my optimal lionesses line-up v ireland
i am going to this match and i am not afraid to insult sarina from my seat loudly if she doesn't play younger players for this one
A lot of players are on yellows and one more will put them out for the Sweden game so this is the main consideration in the creation of this line-up. It's two yellows for a suspension, Jess Carter, Ella Toone, Leah Williamson, Lucy Bronze and Chloe Kelly are all on one. This is also one of the easier games in the group and an opportunity to play some younger players.
Alessia Russo may be injured after leaving last week's camp early with a hamstring injury in training but I think that was minor and mostly precautionary however if she's not ready to play a full 90, I would like to see Aggie Beever-Jones start in her place. They've tried starting Lauren Hemp in the nine before and it regularly fails to produce goals. However, if Aggie Beever-Jones starts, I would like to see Fran Kirby over Grace Clinton to bring more experience to that front line and introduce someone that Aggie is more familiar with playing with rather than two young players connecting through that central channel to create a line-up like this:
Okay, so justifying my other choices. Firstly, England needs to start introducing a more consistent staring line-up for chemistry and game plans. This is not possible in the defence but consistency can be carried over in the attack and midfield with the exception of Grace Clinton. Hence, my choices of Russo, Hemp and Mead up front. I think they need all the chances to build up their chemistry possible so England can start scoring the goals they need to score. This especially comes with how they understand each other's movement. Clinton can slip into this as the best like-for-like replacement for Toone who can get up front to compensate for Russo's runs that create a midfield overload much needed for chances through the centre especially with both Wubben-Moy and Williamson unavailable to make these runs from the defence.
However, England will likely benefit from Ireland's lack of a midfielder with the talents to mark Keira Walsh out of the game which is why I have deemed it okay not to play Williamson and miss out on her midfield overloads that free up Walsh and allow her to make her crucial chance creating passes through the midfield. England will also benefit from Clinton's speed, allowing more of these passes to capitalise on as she can outrun her markers. Stanway and Walsh are further irreplaceable in the midfield, although I would accept Park in Stanway's role however with two inexperienced defenders, England would benefit from experiences in the midfield.
With all the yellow cards and injuries, England is limited in the defence. As a result, Greenwood despite being a stronger player at centre-back is the best option at left-back and fortunately links up well with Lauren Hemp so this isn't the worst scenario for England. However, it does leave England without a left-footed centre-back. Both Morgan and Le Tissier can play at right-back. However, with McCabe preferring the wings to score goals (though let's face it we have no fucking idea where she's going to play and quite frankly she shouldn't be given a positional label any more, she should just be called an outfield player because she plays fucking everywhere), it is better to play the more experiences player at right-back to possibly counter this and that would be Maya Le Tissier. However, Esme Morgan and Maya Le Tissier's positions in the starting line-up are interchangeable for me.
I want to see Keating make her competitive debut sooner rather than later, as a result, I think this would be the perfect time to give her a chance. She had minutes in the game against the Netherlands and with no friendlies coming up soon, I think this may be the only opportunity. If both Hampton and Earps are injured, she is the keeper we would turn to and she needs some competitive experience to remove the pressure and give England and herself the best chances in the future. She is a stronger keeper than most in the WSL and with Greenwood and Morgan in front of her she will be in the unique position of playing with a familiar defence to guide her.
If Niamh Charles makes the match day squad and Maya Le Tissier returns to the reserves, I would like to see Millie Turner play the centre back role alongside Millie Bright. In that scenario, Esme Morgan would take up the right back role to look something like this. (Left if Russo isn't fully fit and right if she is.)
Substitutes
With Mary Earps and Niamh Charles still recovering from injury, the match day squad (limited to 23 players) would be:
(players in italics are on a yellow and at risk of a suspension)
Hannah Hampton, Khiara Keating, Lucy Thomas/Anna Moorhouse Lucy Bronze, Alex Greenwood, Millie Bright, Leah Williamson, Jess Carter, Esme Morgan, Maya Le Tissier, Millie Turner Keira Walsh, Fran Kirby, Georgia Stanway, Ella Toone, Grace Clinton, Jess Park Lauren Hemp, Beth Mead, Chloe Kelly, Alessia Russo, Aggie Beever-Jones, Jess Naz
I think it would be sensible to give Charles and Earps a little more time, especially Charles, ahead of this game and not name her to the squad especially with the limits already placed on the defensive by the yellow cards and it being key that Le Tissier, as a right back replacement for Lucy Bronze, is named in the match day squad.
I do not trust this squad not to get yellow cards against Ireland despite managing it last time out, especially Lucy Bronze. Quite frankly, some of the players not on yellows are quite literally bloody miracles (*cough* Georgia Stanway *cough* *cough*)
Personally, I am a little disappointed in the match day squad as it would be a good space for Bo Kearns to make a debut off the bench and I think she would do very well against Liverpool and she's in the unique position of being one of the few future English midfielders who can play in a defensive midfield position. The lack of depth in the defensive midfield role hurt England in their matches while Keira Walsh was injured with Katie Zelem one of the few other English options available in this role and nowhere near the standard of Keira Walsh however I think Bo Kearns, despite being more of a central midfielder, does have the ability to learn this role and slip into it much like Patri Guijarro is able to do at Barcelona. I would like to see her make the squad over a player on a yellow card as a tactical decision. Ella Toone is probably the best option as a like-for-like change in the midfield squad list.
Considering this, this is the substitutes that I would like to see made throughout the game.
And if Russo is not ready for a full 90, these are the substitutes that I want to see made:
These crucial substitutes would allow England to keep the experience and also allow young players to get game time ahead of the 2025 Euros something that is crucial for developing a game plan similar to the one that won England the 2024 Euros. With qualifiers for both the World Cup and Euros getting increasingly difficult, there will be no more opportunities like Luxembourg and North Macedonia to give young players a chance and they are going to have to get their chances in these matches. Jess Naz, Aggie Beever-Jones, Missy Bo Kearns, Maya Le Tissier, Grace Clinton, Jess Park and Esme Morgan will all be crucial to England's future success and they need to get the chance at some point and these substitutions will be the way to give it to them. For me, the most crucial players to play with be Beever-Jones, Keating and Naz.
