CATS!! I can't stop thinking about this musical and these characters! I keep trying to figure out how Id personally translate their designs for things like animation and/or comics. plenty of these I'm not 100% satisfied with and I'm sure they'll change but here's at least my first attempt for posterity. I feel like I drew SO many cats and yet there are SO many I have YET to draw OTL

Fun fact

Did you know that Maine Coons wag their tails much more often than other breeds? They wag their tails quite a bit not only when they are angry, but also when they are happy, excited or just calm.

I just know that when Old Deuteronomy arrives, both munkustrap and tugger are a mess of wagging tails.

Oh yeah I’m back on my bullkshit

For the first time in my life, I visited a harbor city and spent a few days there (that was last week to be exact)

Y’all, It completely shifted my perspective on ships. I overdosed myself with boats, I now understand the environment and how everything works together—how the systems, people, and operations are all interconnected. I had been struggling with even the simplest setups for Tugger and anything related to tugboats. Updates for Lost Anchor have been slow as FUCK bc I kept running into dead ends, and so much of my research felt like it was going nowhere. I’ve also been trying to introduce a few more relevant characters for Lost Anchor, but I just couldn’t figure out how to make them fit. But now? I’m fucking cooking. Things are finally coming together.

Cats! But make it Chinese Opera! When I posted the initial exploration art of Tugger I had mainly referenced Peking Opera, but since then I think the style has grown to be a combination of multiple genres of opera haha

Since they are both sons of Old Deuteronomy, I wanted them to have elaborate costumes and roles that will stand out amongst the others! Tugger is playing the 武小生 (Wu Xiao Sheng) role and Munkustrap is playing the 长靠武生 (Chang Kao Wu Sheng) role. 武生 are martial characters and warriors, Munkustrap’s specific role is a high ranking warrior defined by using a polearm while Tugger plays a younger warrior. Although my explanation is short there are actually a lot more details regarding the difference in singing tone, costumes, and personality between each role! I’ve only started researching about this when i started this project so unfortunately I am still not very knowledgeable about Chinese Opera ><; but hopefully I get to learn more as I continue exploring with this project 🥰
