Two brothers from Nigeria who targeted a 17-year-old in a sextortion scam have been sentenced to 17 years and six months in jail in the US.
The Ogoshi brothers, from Lagos, lured Jordan DeMay into sending them explicit images by pretending to be a girl his age - then blackmailed him.
He killed himself less than six hours after they started talking on Instagram.
It is the first successful prosecution of Nigerians for sextortion in the US, where it is a rapidly growing cyber-crime, often linked to Nigeria.
Jordan's mother, Jenn Buta, held pictures of her son in court and wept as she read a victim impact statement. "I am shattered to my core," she said.
She welcomed the ending of the trial, but said there was no good outcome from the tragic case.
Jordan DeMay was a popular schoolboy from Michigan.
Samuel Ogoshi, 24, and Samson Ogoshi, 21, sent him a friend request on Instagram pretending to be a pretty girl his age and then flirted with him.
Once they received explicit images from the teenager, they blackmailed him for hundreds of dollars, threatening to share the pictures online with his friends if he did not comply.
Jordan sent as much money as he could and warned the scammers that he would kill himself if they spread the images.
The criminals replied: “Good… Do that fast - or I'll make you do it.”
John DeMay told Marquette federal court in Michigan he still has nightmares after finding his son dead in his bedroom. He said his family was forced to move home to escape the memory.
If you've been affected by the issues in this story, help and support is available via the BBC Action Line
The brothers pleaded guilty in April to conspiring to sexually exploit teenage boys in Michigan and across the US.
Thirty-eight other US victims were also identified as being targeted by the men. 13 of them were minors.
The brothers sat in court in orange jumpsuits with handcuffs.
Their defence attorneys said the brothers' crimes were fuelled by drug abuse and the sextortion scam culture in Nigeria.
The judge said the crimes showed a "callous disregard for life", especially given they continued targeting other victims after learning that Jordan has died.
Both brothers apologised to Jordan's family.
"I'm sorry to the family. We made a bad decision to make money and I wish I could change that," Samson Ogoshi said.
In the first case of its kind, US police tracked the criminals to Lagos last summer and successfully extradited them for trial.
Another Nigerian man linked to Jordan’s death and other cases is fighting extradition.
Speaking to the BBC in May from Jordan's family home in the city of Marquette, Jordan's mother praised the police for their work tracking the sextortionists down.
But she said she had mixed feelings about the Ogoshis being behind bars.
"It's a relief that someone is being held accountable, but there's no good that's coming out of this situation for my family or for the individuals responsible's family," she said.
"I miss my son more than I can describe to you, but the mother of those men is probably missing her two sons as well now. She too is really just an innocent bystander of sextortion crime," said Jenn Buta.
Researchers and law enforcement agencies point to Nigeria as a hotspot for this type of crime.
In April, two Nigerian men were arrested after a schoolboy from Australia killed himself. Two other men are on trial in Lagos after the suicides of a 15-year-old boy in the US and a 14-year-old in Canada.
Nigerian authorities are also working with police in Scotland to investigate the case of 16-year-old Murray Dowey, who killed himself in December.
In January, US cyber-company Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI) highlighted a web of Nigerian TikTok, YouTube and Scribd accounts sharing tips and scripts for sextortion. Many of the discussions and videos are in Nigerian Pidgin dialect.
Nigeria cyber-security professor Adedeji Oyenuga from Lagos State University says he hopes the news of Nigerians being sentenced will filter through to criminals and put them off.
"The Ogoshis case has already sent a bad signal. I am hearing from street level that it is having an effect and it might not stop criminals turning to these crimes, but it will likely reduce the numbers," he said.
There had been an increase in the number of local victims too and Professor Oyenuga says Nigerian police have had some success in tackling the criminals.
It is not the first time that some of Nigeria’s young, tech-savvy population has embraced a new wave of cyber-crime.
The term "Yahoo Boys" is used to describe a portion of the population that use cyber-crime to earn a living. It comes from the early 2000s wave of Nigerian Prince scam emails which spread through the Yahoo email service.
Dr Tombari Sibe, from cyber-security firm Digital Footprints Nigeria, says cyber-fraud such as sextortion has become normalised among young people in the country, but he hopes that news of the Ogoshis' sentencing spreads fast.
"They see cybercrime as a bloodless crime, with potentially lucrative financial rewards. This case needs to be given sufficient coverage to show these young people that sextortion can lead to loss of life and long prison sentences," he said.

Now with the Disney live action boom which are announced every three days , the Harry Potter remake and the FNAF film that already has almost confirmed .Lately I've thought "If a love actions of my fic were made, what would be the cast of actors?".
I've been thinking about this during the showers! So here I leave my cast list of my imaginary live action cast of my fanfic XD: love actions cringe was made from my fic XD:
Attention: I don't know many actors, I prefer to see things in animated format, so forgive me if many appear in the same work or are very generic and predictable xd
Tumblr media
Andrew Garfield: Damos Gaspar.
I know Andrew doesn't stick around to make the canonical Damos, but for my fic's version I think it's fine, after all in my fic he's a 24 year old guy and the way I draw him I try to favor that point of my fic.
I think Andrew without any problem can play the young priest who at the beginning is an optimistic young man with his destiny and little by little he discovers that the reality that he has believed all his life is more complicated than it seemed, besides that despite being a good guy he has his shades of gray.
I also like to imagine the interpretation he would make in the funny moments with Pili and the tense moments that will be quite drastic, if I can call them that.
Tumblr media
Chris Evans: Arceus
As I said, I don't know much about actors, but in the hypothetical case that this live action had been done about 5 years ago, I would have chosen this guy for Arceus. Now not so much or maybe yes?... It's complicated, it's that Chris already notices the change weather after end game xd
But let's imagine that we have in front of Chris from about 5 years ago, so without a doubt he has the role for our llama perfectionist.
Tumblr media
Ryan Gosling: Argique
The same as Chris, but if I give him a chance, he currently doesn't look so bad to try the kaloshiny.
Can you imagine Ryan playing Argique eating? It would be historic because of how funny it would be.
Tumblr media
Tom Hiddleston: Marcus Koroterna
This would undoubtedly be our beloved emperor. With the great interpretation of him to Loki,he already has experience with characters who are charismatic villains. Also, just look at it! The wardrobe would be perfect! Not even Marcus's weird hairstyle could ruin that!
Tumblr media
Jenn Murray: Acomfire
The same as with Tom Hiddleston. The character is made for her!I was literally based on Gerda from the movie Maleficent 2, for its great design and redesign. So I think she is the one, in addition to her, her fixed and penetrating gaze will transmit to the viewer that it's not a good idea to mess with the Emperor, because he has someone dangerous behind him.
Tumblr media
Emma Watson:Olga Koroterna (young age), Ava Gaspar or Martha
Any of those three would suit you.
She could play Olga when flashbacks are shown of her when she was a young princess, with big dreams and determination to be a good girl.empress for her people.
Also the great Ava Gaspar, that restless woman who sought more land than the horizon showed her with great kindness and love towards her friends and loved ones, from the only Pokémon trainers of the dynasty and the great guide of our little Heatran. Can you imagine Emma in Ava's uniform? She would look amazing!!!
A character like Martha would also suit her well, after seeing her participation in the Beauty and the Beast live action and now that I have accommodated Martha's presence and role in the story, Martha would definitely suit her well! Now with Martha's new changes, they make her a candidate for the honor of being played by Emma. Pretty good for a character I owe a lot xD
Tumblr media
Elizabeth Debicki: Olga Koroterna
What better role of an empress for someone who played the queen of the people? That's how it is! I speak of Elizabeth Debicki, who previously performed for the dearest Princess Diana. I haven't seen ALL of The crown, but for me she is the one to play the dearest Olga/mother-in-law of my friend Elgu xD.Also just watch it here! Olga's short hair and her crown would suit her perfectly!
In addition, she undoubtedly knows how to capture the pain and suffering of a woman in overwhelming situations that little by little destroy her.
Tumblr media
Sarah Jeffery: Kenia Gaspar (young age)
I like the interpretation of this actress, her experience with the character of Audrey in descendants, I think it would help her with the interpretation of Kenya in flashbacks, since let's say that she was...A difficult girl to deal with, especially with Olga... Acomfire already talked a little about it and little by little I leave crumbs of it.
Tumblr media
Michelle pfeiffer: Kenia Gaspar
Currently Kenya has not gone beyond mentions, technically we know nothing about her other than some things she has been involved in.I don't want to make spoilers, but if this actress is here it is because there is a specific role that makes me take her as an immediate candidate, it is a role of a character from a movie mentioned in this post. This character will be relevant later on, whether it is just a cameo, reference, flashback or full appearance is left to your speculation.
Tumblr media
Hunter Doohan: Stephen Koroterna
He has that air of naive, of a good boy, different and familiar with loved ones. The perfect emperor.
Tumblr media
Tom Holland: Pablo Gaspar (young age)
Just look at it! He is without a doubt Mew's apprentice, that innocence and hope for what the future holds fits perfectly in this actor I see this guy using the power to speak to the hearts of Pokémon and with a suitcase in hand to leave his toxic family and go see what fate has in store for him.I see the story of Pablo interpreted by Tom and without a doubt I believe that he is the chosen one of Mew.
Tumblr media
Robert Jack:Pablo Gaspar
After watching his great performance in the series "the last czars", I realize that he is a very good candidate for the first Gaspar of the dynasty.A nice guy, but with problems when it comes to talking about his performance and the acts he did while holding the office that God gave them.
No doubt he is already an expert for that character archetype.
Tumblr media
Luise Wolfram: Alix Koroterna
He already has experience with Alix, I can only say that xD
Tumblr media
Angelique Boyer: Lesly
Oh yes, the great traitor of the archestian religion. The woman who made the pure angel of Arceus fall into pain, anger, disobedience and imperfection for the sake of jewels and a new status. The woman who was once called a heroine, the one who fooled everyone and the girl who is blamed for Arceus being so disappointed with the human race.
No doubt Angelique Boyer is the one for Lesly, she already has experience with sexy bad girls. Just tell you that she acted to be Teresa in the telenovela of the same name(jewel of Mexican telenovelas). Without a doubt I think she is the best of all this cast.
And that's my great cast! There are still many characters missing but I think those are the ones worth talking about for now, also as I said I hardly know any actors so it makes it much more complicated the situation xD.
And you? What do you think of this cast that occurred to me in each shower? Any new option or suggestion? Do you have your imaginary cast for your own story? Show me what's on your mind!

There will be nine new faces when the legislature resumes sitting on Prince Edward Island in the coming months, all from the governing party. The 22 Progressive Conservative seats include those nine first-time MLAs and all 13 incumbents. Three Liberals and two Green Party members also held their seats.
Below are the 27 elected representatives who will make up the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island. The majority increased from 15 seats to 22. Six came at the expense of the Green Party, and one was flipped from Liberal hands. Two other newcomers won seats held by former PC MLAs who did not re-offer.
Rob Lantz, a former leader of the Progressive Conservatives, won District 13: Charlottetown-Brighton. The seat was formerly held by Green MLA Ole Hammarlund, who lost his party's nomination to Janice Harper. A win is a form of redemption for Lantz, who lost the district in 2015 to Liberal Jordan Brown and spent eight years out of politics. He got a warm welcome back in King's victory speech Monday night.
Susie Dillon turned District 11: Charlottetown-Belvedere from green to blue. The seat was formerly held by the Greens' Hannah Bell, who did not re-offer. Joanna Morrison, who won the nomination in Bell's place, finished second.
Barb Ramsay took District 22 (Summerside-South Drive) from incumbent Green MLA Steve Howard. Tyler DesRoches, a former Summerside councilor, took District 21: Summerside-Wilmot from incumbent Green MLA Lynne Lund.
Jenn Redmond, who won the PC nomination by just one vote, was in another nail-biter Monday, winning District 5: Mermaid-Stratford by just 38 votes. Michele Beaton, the incumbent and a vocal MLA for the Greens, finished second.
Hilton MacLennan, who manages the O'Leary Co-op Feed Mill and Retail Store, took District 23: Tyne Valley-Sherbrooke from incumbent Green MLA Trish Altass.
Gilles Arsenault won in District 24: Evangeline-Miscouche, a seat formerly held by longtime Liberal MLA and interim party leader Sonny Gallant, who did not re-offer MacLellan, the Liberal candidate, and finished second.
Robin Croucher won in District 1: Souris-Elmira with 1,593 votes, keeping the seat for PCs LaVie, the MLA for the last 11 years, who made a late decision not to run again due to health reasons.
Jill Burridge kept District 6, Stratford-Keppoch, for the PCs with 1,479 votes. The seat was formerly held by James Aylward, who did not re-offer King the seat but handily won in District 15: Brackley-Hunter River) with more than 68 percent of the vote.
Bloyce Thompson, a farmer who was the minister of economic growth, tourism, and culture, won in District 8: Stanhope-Marshfield with the highest percentage of votes in any district this time - almost 80 percent of the vote. He faced only one challenger, Marian White of the NDP.
Matthew MacKay won in District 20 (Kensington-Malpeque in 2019) with a margin of 76 percent. MacKay held the high-profile social development and housing portfolio and was called upon to find temporary housing for Islanders facing homelessness.
Ernie Hudson won in District 26: Alberton-Bloomfield over Pat Murphy, a Liberal MLA from 2007-2019. Hudson was the King's minister of health and wellness at a time when many Islanders cited health care as the island's most pressing issue.
Steven Myers, most recently the minister of environment, energy, and climate action, won his fourth election in District 2: Georgetown-Pownal with almost 70 percent of the vote.
Darlene Compton, King's deputy premier and minister of agriculture and land, won in District 4: Belfast-Murray River with 1,510 votes, almost three times as many as her nearest competitor, Liberal candidate Katherine Bryson.
Cory Deagle, 31, retains his title as the youngest MLA, winning District 3: Montague-Kilmuir with more than 70 percent of the vote before dissolution was won for the PCs in a byelection in 2020, and cruising to victory in District 10: Charlottetown-Winsloe with more than 60 percent of the vote.
Sidney MacEwen, government house leader before the election call, had a convincing win in District 7, Morell-Donagh, with more than 70 percent of the vote.
Jamie Fox, the most recent minister of fisheries and communities, won his third election in District 19: Borden-Kinkora, well ahead of Matthew MacFarlane of the Green Party.
Jamie Fox, the most recent minister of fisheries and communities, won his third election in District 19: Borden-Kinkora, well ahead of Matthew MacFarlane of the Green Party.
Mark McLane, who was King's most recent finance minister, was re-elected in District 16: Cornwall-Meadowbank. McLane took the seat from the Liberals in a 2021 byelection after Heath MacDonald resigned to run federally. Green candidate Tayte Willows finished second on Monday.
Mark McLane, who was King's most recent finance minister, was re-elected in District 16: Cornwall-Meadowbank took the seat from the Liberals in a 2021 byelection after Heath MacDonald resigned to run federally and finished second on Monday.
The Liberals will form the official opposition, winning the second-largest number of seats, though their leader Sharon Cameron did not secure a seat herself McNeilly returns as the only person of color in the legislature, keeping his seat in District 14; Charlottetown-West Royalty candidate Kristi MacKay came in a close second.
Robert Henderson won his fifth election, taking District 25: O'Leary-Inverness in a three-way race with Daniel MacDonald of the PCs and Herb Dickieson of the NDP.
Hal Perry, who was first elected as a Progressive Conservative in 2011 before crossing the floor to the then-governing Liberals in 2013, was re-elected in District 27: Tignish-Palmer Road.
Leader Peter Bevan-Baker kept his seat in District 17: New Haven-Rocky Point, but just barely. PC Donald Docherty gave him a scare by finishing just over 100 votes behind. Liberal Leader Sharon Cameron finished a distant third.
Karla Bernard, the former opposition critic for social development, housing, and the status of women, kept her seat in District 12; Charlottetown Victoria Park Keizer, a longtime Charlottetown police constable, was a close second.

“You'll feel so homesick that you'll want to die, and there's nothing you can do about it apart from endure it. But you will, and it won't kill you. And one day the sun will come out - you might not even notice straight away, it'll be that faint. And then you'll catch yourself thinking about something or someone who has no connection with the past.”
