Nadia Sings no. 7
Link to last song
Yes, believe your eyes—it’s a Nadia Sings double feature!
This is one of my favorite jazz standards to sing, and it’s not one that I think most people will know: “You’ll Never Know” (Music by Harry Warren, lyrics by Mack Gordon)
The song was introduced in the 1943 movie “Hello, Frisco, Hello”, where it was sung by Alice Faye, eventually going on to win the 1943 Academy Award for Best Original Song.
In the 21st century, the song was featured in the 2017 film “The Shape of Water”, sung there by the legendary American opera singer, Renee Fleming.
When I first heard this song, between the lovely lyrics and beautiful melody, I immediately fell in love, and I could not believe it when I saw that it was sung by Renee Fleming, who was one of my inspirations growing up.
So I learned it as soon as I could… and have never performed it since—until now, and I think this is the proudest I’ve been of a recording.
I’ll let it speak for itself.
Again, my usual disclaimer; this was recorded in my new recording studio (my closet), using my favorite recording app, BandLab (again, you guys know the drill 🤣), and, as usual, while I put a little reverb effect on my vocal track, this is otherwise as unadulterated a track as the one I posted last time, just my voice, with no pitch correction, recorded into my iPhone.
(Headphones recommended to hear the reverb)

Husk to Hazbin Crew while he looks for Angel (probably. Song made me feel like he’d be singing this.)
I gotta find who’s number one
And why my angel eyes ain’t here
Pardon me, but I gotta run
That fact’s uncommonly clear
Got to find who’s now number one
And why my Angel eyes ain’t here
Excuse me while I disappear

Today's cover is of the 1920 standard "Avalon". The music is by Vincent Rose, who adapted the main melody from Giacomo Puccini's "E lucevan le stelle"; the lyrics are by Buddy DeSylva.

I wish you all a very Happy Easter, and if you need to lounge a bit after a generous family meal, may I suggest Oscar Peterson, and his magical fingers, playing Easter Parade!

Hello, people who follow me.
After being here on this hellsite for almost four years (darn, I’m getting old), I wanted to share with all of you one of the other things that I am crazy about—so crazy about it, that I went to SCHOOL for it—music.
I’ve mentioned it before, but just in case you didn’t see my posts talking about this, I am a classically trained singer; a light lyric coloratura soprano, to be precise.
That’s a really fancy way to say I have a “voice that has a warm quality with a bright, full timbre that can be heard over an orchestra.”
And the coloratura means that I have an even higher “extension” to my voice—that I can sing even higher than a plain light lyric soprano can, that my voice is agile, and can handle runs.
However, this song here is not an aria or any sort of classical repertoire, but it is a song from one of the many genres that I also trained for—jazz standards.
In fact, my senior recital was half classical, half jazz, my collaborative musicians some of the best in my area.
(My jazz pianist was my music theory and composition mentor—[thanks Mr. B!]—yes, I also compose; I have a really nice piano piece and Catholic Mass Setting under my belt if I do say so myself)
I recorded this in my church, after the Mass I regularly sing at, and the echo in the church, along with the microphone reverb kind of lends itself to a certain ambiance.
I hope you enjoy!!
On an aside, I also am posting this as a teaser for the next story that I hope to post soon on my fanfiction sideblog, @the-authoress-writes.
No spoilers, but this probably likely is a gigantic clue, I’ll be honest, 🤣!

Amazing what you can do with the same tune. Here, Sinatra and Jobim give it a smooth, luxurious sheen.

i love music: Nature boy
I have a song stuck in my head. Still. I try to banish it with one of my favorite standards. Nature Boy. Every version available on the music app. David Bowie, Ella Fitzgerald, Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett, Puddles Pity Party, a prog rock version by Gandalf, original Broadway cast of Moulin Rouge, and less well known stars singing this haunting melody, some too experimental, but no less beautiful and tragic. (Fun Fact: Primus has a song called Nature Boy. Sneaky of them.)
You see, it’s hopeful while still being tragic.
The other song. It’s just about pain. I can’t keep dwelling in that.
