Why do people think Arkham! Jason is whiny compared to the other Jasons? To copy and paste what I wrote somewhere else to prove my boy is, in fact, not whiny and just extremely broken and angry, understandably.
He went after the Joker alone after he and Harley killed kindergartners and sewed their body parts together, and the Joker caught him. Jason spent over a year in the abandoned wing in Arkham Asylum, the Joker, with Harley helping, tortured him physically, branding him with the letter J on his cheek, psychologically, mentally breaking him down, with other inmates beating him, including Batman’s rouge’s gallery. Pretty much in every way imaginable, Jason was put through it.
He was lead to believe Batman had abandoned and replaced him, and then the Joker filmed the broken boy being “killed” by him and sent it to Batman, breaking him and causing him to stop looking for Jason out of grief. The Joker continued to torture Jason afterwards until the beginning of Arkham Asylum.
So yeah, I think he deserves a break. He also does redeem himself and become Red Hood, and then he acts more like himself, happier and not crushed by all the pain and hate. (I love that man.)

I'm struggling at the moment to write because a lot of my story ideas have Bruce in them but... im like... so mad at canon Bruce that I can't stand to write him. Like I'll think about it, but then what he did to Jason in Gotham War pops into my head and I get pissed again.

So went down a fanfiction rabbit hole and you know what I don't see enough of BAMF Jason Todd.
We see him protecting Tim maybe Damian.
Which I am all for protecting the baby birds don't get me wrong. What I want though is for him to find out the shit Dick Grayson has gone through and then fucking destroy them.
I am a sucker for protective sibling sometimes. I want Dick to be protected.
His little brother is a fucking Rouge he is terrifying he took over Crime Alley I want to see him go to bat for Dick I want him to fuck up Dicks abusers. I want him to get justice for Dick.
Cause let me tell you Mirage grates on my fucking nerves and I firmly believe Jason Todd would fucking end that.
(Mirage is a thing in my mind not a person no respect from me for that one)

Okay so I just thought of something based on a post I saw forever ago so let me know if that’s you so I can tag you. That person said that Jason beating Tim up at the Titans Tower isn’t as big of a deal as it sounds because they’re brothers and siblings do be like that.
I disagree. For one, they weren’t brothers when it happened. Sharing a dad doesn’t make you brothers, especially when you had him at different times. They didn’t know each other. For another, Jason slit his throat and wrote on a wall with his blood which is not??? Normal?? Sibling shit???
Another point was that Jason wasn’t an adult so it was like teenager on teenager violence which isn’t that big. I mean considering the degree of violence and the fact that Jason is much bigger and stronger than Tim and broke into a place that should have been safe, it’s pretty fucking big.
So basically Tim doesn’t have to pretend it’s not a big deal or forgive Jason and he has every right to be a hater. But of course I do love Jason and it was shitty of him but people make mistakes and he deserves every happiness. And also I love their relationship now so basically any distaste I might have felt for Jason bc of how he treated my beloved Tim is gone.

“Mom—”
Natalia bit back a half sob, and once Jason had stepped close enough, she pulled him in for a tight embrace. “My starlight,” she brushed a hand through his hair; it was a reminder of when she would brush it. “You’re— here.”
“Yeah,” Jason swallowed, sparing a glance at Raymond who fidgeted awkwardly in the doorway. “I’m here. I missed you.” he whispered, and allowed her to keep brushing his hair.

jason is also a terrible person lets not play this racist ass game. and his iterations havent been retconned!
Wtf you mean by racist ass game? I’m judging everyone by their character and what they did. Also Jason isn’t a terrible person, and even if he was, it doesn’t make the fact that he was groomed/SA any better.

Batfam Suicide Squad AU:
Villainous versions of all of the Bats are shoved into one universe together. Up until this point in the AU, they do not know each other well. They've maybe seen each other on the field (which probably ended in fights and held grudges), but they aren't family. They are practically strangers.
Amanda Waller just wants to kill them. However, somehow, there's a force that's even worse than these fuckers. She needs a team to take that down, even if the participants are unwilling.
Bruce Wayne:
A cunning villain who can naturally lead teams. He primarily works alone but has proven to be efficient with any person he has to work with. He can bring out their better attributes, but he's ruthless, wary, and an asshole. He has contingency plans to take down anyone and everyone
Dick Grayson:
Practically immortal half-Talon assassin for hire. His rumored mentors are other Talons, Deathstroke, Superman, and various Titans. His skills in combat are fierce, his abilities are enhanced by his state, and his early childhood acrobatics do wonders for his abilities to escape and fight. These pale in comparison to his natural charisma and ability to turn enemies into allies.
Barbara Gordon:
The best hacker on this side of the galaxy. While she mainly stays off of the field due to her being paralyzed from the waist down, she is a formidable opponent. A significant number of politicians worldwide owe her favors, heroes and villains work for her, she knows top secret information, employs a number of traps to protect herself, and understands the nuances in social structures.
Jason Todd:
A brutal enforcer who utilizes fear, power, and death in his territory to demand obedience to his rules. Extremely skilled in various weapons, hand-to-hand combat, bomb making, and demonstrations of force. His senses, healing speed, and reflexes are uniquely enhanced by his exposure to Lazarus Pits. Despite his persona of being quick to anger, he's a masterful tactian and manipulator.
Cass Cain:
The only candidate who does not kill. Her combat prowess exceeds all other candidates and is rarely defeated in battle. Her eerie silence, ability to read others far more accurately than even psychics, and her stealthiness lead her existence to being more of a feared rumor than a confirmed sighting.
Tim Drake:
While he can defeat a range of opponents in combat, his strength lie in the plots he enacts anonymously. He is skilled in plucking strings and dominoes to create the outcomes he desires. Other abilities include hacking, combat, stealth, disguises, and manipulation. For any battle he prepares for, he rarely loses. Only a small handful of his crimes can be proven to be caused by him.
Steph Brown:
She is skilled in deflection, disguises, social circumstances, combat, and observations. Brown utilizes a variety of personas to distract her victims and lead them astray. She's deadly, but hides this aspect well.
Duke Thomas:
A daring and charismatic leader of a meta rights movement. His group has committed various crimes in their pursuits. He is the only born meta of the group, extremely skilled in utilizing his powers, decisive in outcomes, skilled in combat, and ruthless to prejudice. He can be charming and is extremely emotionally intelligent, which is a skill he uses to subtly influence others.
Damian Al Ghul:
Due to his high kill count, special permission has been given to allow the sixteen year old to be entered into the program. He's exceptionally skilled in all weapon combat but primarily uses swords and knives. He's astute and can utilize his age as a finely tuned weapon to infiltrate, distract, or disappear. He has experience with leading, murder for hire, and complex missions.
Alfred Pennyworth:
A formidable marksman and retired serviceman for MI6. His skills with all styles of guns, acting abilities, unflappable manner, medic training, vehicle maneuverabilites, and sharp tongue aid him in any supportive role. Although he is unlikely to assist on field, he will provide necessary background aid.
Tim and Barbara, in this AU, have both grudges and respect for each other. Tim does not match Barbara's computer skills, but he's a far better foe to her than most. Usually, Tim has a policy to bow out when Barbara is involved or find a way to hide his involvement from her.
Bruce doesn't know Damian is his biological son. Damian hopes to keep him in the dark. Dick, due to his training with blood scents, is the first to know about their relationship. This only occurs after Bruce and Damian get injured on separate missions and Dick makes the connection.
Jason and Damian both have tried to kill Tim. Because Tim seemingly can't die to their attacks, the two have made a game out of trying to kill Tim whenever they see him. Jason and Damian do not know the other also does this. Jason refers to Tim as a "cockroach-like bastard."
One of the batkids jokingly refers to Bruce as "Dad" and Alfred as "Gramps" due to their older age. This catches on with the rest of the batkids until it becomes a regular and fond nickname for the older men.
Bruce had a plan to escape with the help of Kate. After seeing Damian (he doesn't know that's his son), Bruce decides he can't leave a kid. Then he becomes fond of the rest of the group and delays his escape plan again until he can escape with them.
Which of the Bats know each other from encounters in the field? Who holds grudges against each other? What led each Bat to become a villain?
As far as background shit, idk.
I might update with a criminal dossier for each bat later
(In case it wasn't clear, this is a batfam meet late forced found family AU)
@hisaribi helped me with this ^^

Imagine if they were also named the order of grandmas
Like they'd assemble for hoods days off and hang out
Imagine if they appear like this super dangerous super secret order to outsiders
Like, they're hanging with red hood
They gotta be tough
But no one's ever seen them do anything
Secret heists???
And vigilantes would ask the grandmas if they knew they were being used as cover for a secret order
Cause who would suspect them
And they put them on this wild goose chase
old ladies love red hood NOT because he helps them cross roads and seems like a charming young man. they love him because at the end of the night, when he's crouched over catching his breath, head in hands in what he thinks is an empty street, or hobbling down roads trying to get home quickly despite sustaining large injuries, he reminds them of their grandsons.
he gets invited into their homes, and knows better than to decline. he'll sit down and wait to be berated by the old lady at the other side of the kitchen who's putting together a quick meal for him. he'll take off the helmet, and that's when she starts, not telling him to stop what he does, but to take better damn care of himself. he'll apologise and promise, as he's fixing himself up with her first aid kit.
as he leaves she'll still be making firm, although loving remarks at him, but he smiles underneath the helmet because he's being treated like a man, not a hero, a villain, or any of the other inhuman titles he's picked up over the years.

i dont know who a writer would be who could handle it (more ignorance on my part than lack of good writers though there is that too) but i’m curious what you think a real, earned redemption could look like for jtodd and if you would even want it.
i definitely think there’s a path, esp because so much of bruce’s philosophy relies on a genuine and earnest commitment to rehabilitation and restorative justice, but i also think (and maybe i’m wrong if anyone has comics recs lmk) but i don’t think i’ve seen a comic with the hard work of reaching out and healing/moving on from the past from both bruce + co and jason
i really love his character but especially now i don’t think dc knows what it wants to do with him so he’s in this perpetual limbo where he’s always on the edges of the batfam, a fringe black sheep member but a member nonetheless, still entangled with them
personally i would love either way but i wish dc would either separate him and let him do his own thing that’s not just punisher lite or really actually go through the process of making amends and fully integrating with the crew, learning to love and trust again and all that
omg this really got away from me so apologies for just word vomiting in your asks but yeah im curious dc puts you in charge of j todd’s next big character arc, what would you do with him
i don’t think that’s ignorance — dc is not known for hiring writers who can include and explore complex themes in their comics lol
personally i think the easiest way to trigger a redemption arc for jason would be take him away from the batfamily and force him to interact with other villains, specifically amanda waller and the suicide squad. task force z came kinda close to this, but didn’t push the concept far enough imo. jason’s interactions with black mask were some of the best parts of utrh — i want to see his ideology be questioned by people who do the exact same things as him, and are fully aware that they’re selfish and destructive.
the truth is that while jason is acting out and murdering people, he’s still bound to bruce. he is autonomously making decisions, but fundamentally he is choosing to stay. he’s choosing to be tethered. he’s choosing to care. seeing the indentured recruits of the suicide squad would be confronting to him.
i don’t think the happy family fanon dynamic will ever be possible without ruining every included character simultaneously, but that’s okay. that’s not what jason truly wants anyway.
specifically, i don’t think he’ll ever be able to work with bruce, which is why i find the jason + dick dynamic so interesting. you’re right — bruce’s fundamental mission is about restorative justice, and he would continue to reach out. dick, however, is a realist, and is extremely protective and territorial of the people in his care (tim, damian, the titans, etc) all of whom jason has hurt. jason has been shown on page to respect dick and his position, and simultaneously think he’s pathetic because he refuses to lose control.
for me ideally, he’d be someone on the very outskirts. i feel like dick and babs would be his point of contact — dick because he’s keeping an eye on jason, and babs because she has way less hangups about working with killers. otherwise? i think he’s lost the chance to properly bond with anyone who knew before he died. that’s the risk he took when he decided to become the red hood. that’s the tragedy.
but to be perfectly honest, the most restorative thing jason could do would be to leave the game entirely, and relearn how to live.

Roy, pointing behind him: See? That's why the Red Hood Defense Society exists.
Jason, roped in a blank: Roy, first, I'm not getting a defense society. I don't need one. And two— what the ever loving fuck. Where did all this people come from.
Stephanie: Too late. You already got one. It's true that you get cookies with your membership?
Kyle, running from a mob made of half of crime ally in the background: It was a joke! A joke!
The kid who stole his ring: do they call you Joker? 'cuz you ain't fun.
kyle comes up behind jason like "need help carrying those handsome?" and just grabs his tits

jason todd military AU concept
something about jason as a veteran of more recent wars that has been rattling around the old brainbox for weeks now.
something about very young men signing up to lift themselves out of poverty and get an education paid for.
something about him wanting to serve and protect and quickly learning what a lie that can be.
something about war being a way to see parts of the world (there's a story from nathan fick about showing his squad the ruins of babylon during the iraq invasion that i find so sad) and experiencing the beauty of those places in circumstances that lead to their destruction.
something about learning so well to end people's lives.
something about returning from war and struggling to build again a civilian identity.
something about struggling to reconcile the propaganda with the reality.
something about moral injury.
if you wanted to incorporate more of his story, i think he could be a pow and return with everyone being suspicious he 'went native'. and it wouldn't matter if he did or not, the suspicion is enough.
bruce as his CO works very well for me. as does roy as his squad mate.
