my kids came over yesterday and we sat at my kitchen table telling our tales of the week and talking nonsense about nonsense and we laughed and laughed and laughed until the sun started to set and the streetlights came on

tomorrow morning at finnie's house we'll all get together and our partner's too and have our monthly big breakfast and visit some more. i know this window where we are all so near and we can get together so often, i know it will close eventually. i am trying so hard to pay attention to every minute

i had dark dreams and restless sleep last night but boba kept me company the whole time. i got so hungry thinking about tomorrow, i made myself a big breakfast this morning too and it felt so good. it's a sunny day. i am finishing my coffee. boba is warming herself in a bright spot and chirping happy thoughts. i have a new poetry collection waiting for me at the library and i'm going to walk up the hill and across the park and through the woods to go get it and i'll see where the day goes from there

Also I would like to say I think are perception of Chi has been swayed by the anime especially English dub where she was pretty much Goku’s smart foil. In the original Japanese manga… she is dumb. Her and ox are written with a dumb hick quality. Why does she sign up for the tournament because she wants a hunk, she has a son fuck fighting I’m going to be a mother who cares about education… idk anything about it but now it’s what I need to do because I’m a mother now! Again it’s the original Japanese manga I’m talking about. I got all of this from Mr. Fusion from part 3 of his Sayian arc video.

YES. YES THEY ARE. i mean most of them are!

The justification was that since the Eternal's Japanese name came from all over the world it would be confusing for a non-Japanese player who could recognize the numbers (like Siete would be confusing for Italians who'd just see 7 around, Quatre would be confusing for French speakers who would just see 4 around, Six would be confusing for most Latin Language ect) so they went instead with a version that is no longer in use.... and focusing on English.

I personally am not fan of the change because i think the international aspect of the initial name was to show that the Eternals are watching all over the skies, all over the world basically, and limiting them to Old English just... well. is limiting.

But at least there was indeed some thoughts into it.

and yeah same. French and Japanese are both Syllabic languages so it's basically easier -ish for French ppl to read romanized Japanese because we do have like 90% of the same logic in prononciation and there's just a few sounds that are not similar, but at least the prononciation logic is consistant (*side eye at English*)-- and i was taught that you need to pronounce every syllabe the way they're written. So even when they are using foreign name i tend to use this logic and i always read it Sé-o-fo-n . But that's so wrong because English still is there to spite me.

But oh well the more we know!

Today, I'll turn the spotlight on Jasper Storm. He's part of the Stone Dragon series.

I have a treasure hoard of visual resource books from Dover Publications that I've collected over the last 30 years or so. I'll often leaf through them before I start design work on new dragons, and I did so in this case, too. I caught sight of a Japanese kite that inspired this dragon's wings, and I worked the rest of the design elements (his face, his dorsal ridge, his belly scales) around the kite wings.

Prismacolor pencils and gold paint pen. Super-limited palette, too - I think there are three reds and black, and that's it.

This!! This line is the reason I bought Kimetsu Gakuen vol 3 in Japanese :') There's a wordplay that I find simply delightful.

Inosuke tells Kanao that he's flying his kite (凧 tako) because the wind is strong. And then he asks her "y'know, a kite!!", but it's written in katakana (タコ) so it leaves the reader up to interpreting it however they want.

But the full sentence is "y'know, a kite! The kind you can't eat!!" which... didn't translate well into english without context :') Tako is also 蛸, octopus! The tako from takoyaki!

Look at him knowing words, and assuming other people don't!! Food is clearly his main motivation in many ways, so I wouldn't be surprised that he knows a LOT of food names, and associates everything else to some food he knows. Yay for learning!

Contemplation

Today is my birthday, and to celebrate I decided to draw my tengu character Minoru, looking a bit down and lonely, which he is.

Here he contemplates what was, and what could have been. Years ago he failed to protect his home, and people he cared for, except for one special person...

Minoru blames himself for not being strong enough, and once the one survivor was safe he left her behind, having been hunted for weeks he stayed at a distance, watching ever so faithfully, but keeping his distance. At least she would be safe, and he would make sure she would always be.

Sometimes he visits the area he used to keep watch over. Now it's only a ruin, slowly being reclaimed by nature.
