I thought a fun idea for a poll tournament would be Favorite Star Trek Captain. I took one captain from each show (forgive me if I forgot one). For characters, like Kirk, who have multiple versions across shows and movies, try to judge them by the version from the posted show.

I will post one poll per week, with the captain with the lowest score struck from the next week's list until we get down to just two captains and decide the ultimate winner!

I chose Burnham for Disco bc she's arguably the best known of all the captains from that show.

I chose Rios for Picard bc I've only seen the first season

My mom: So, I think I've come to a conclusion.

Me: Oh?

My Mom: I think that out of all the original Star Trek cast, it's most likely that William Shatner didn't know he was playing a gay character. I just saw a picture of him and Spock and Kirk is wearing the gayest little outfit, and I imagined someone telling him "It's just what people will wear in the future, it's science fiction".

Me: But George Takei would definitely know. He'd be making eye contact with the guy who wrote the famous Amok Time fight scene from across the room.

My Mom: Oh, he would absolutely know.

One of my absolute favourite scenes in the entire show is in the Ultimate Computer when McCoy gets up all in Daystrom's face about the testing of the M5 being potentially unsafe & Daystrom is like "Who's this. Why is he here".

And Jim is like. "Don't worry. Dr McCoy has clearance all throughout the ship :3" As if Bones just goes whenever he wants does whatever he wants (eeh more or less true) & Jim doesn't have any control over him (even though he's like. the one person who does). Because Jim agrees with what Bones is saying but he's got to be professional & diplomatic about it.

It's just such an interesting & revealing little moment
