Okay, so I've come back to say that this is definitely in the works now. I'm currently writing this with one of my best friends. I have it all drafted and everything. Just letting anyone who sees this know.

A marauders fic that is loosely based off of the next step is my dream AU to write.

Was this dreamt up because I found an old playlist grade 7 me made 7 years ago that had a song from the show that sent me down a rabbit hole?

Definitely.

Do I want to rework some of the dances to fit certain characters because the dances were iconic?

Absolutely.

My only concern about writing it is the fear that it’s already been done before, but because I’m afraid it’s been done I refuse to look into it to get the answer.

this isn’t me hating on people’s hc’s, hc whatever tf u want idgaf, but when you’re talking about the marauders and how all of a sudden they’re in a walmart…huh?? they are BRITISH?! like?? i feel like it’s not that hard to not american-ify every piece of media you come across

DONT even get me started on the COD fandom either, because simon riley is from manchester, not fucking texas. like?? you have this man calling you “darlin” with no G? like?? this man’s accent is most DEFINITELY pronouncing that g.

again, if you wanna hc these characters as american, go ahead, i don’t care. but it’s so frustrating when ur reading a fic about a character (they haven’t stated it’s an hc) that’s not from the US but for some reason authors dgaf about even TRYING to include peoples nationality, like?? america is not the centre of the universe oh my god. it just ruins fics for me sometimes.

it’s really not that hard to actually try and understand where the character your writing about comes from. i could go so much deeper into this but omg for the love of god, let the characters keep their nationalities 😭✋🏽

on another note, i LOVE authors that try and get simon/the marauders accents’ across through diction, makes it sm more immersive and i LOVEEE IT

Okay I NEED to know what the current most popular slash ships are, being on tumblr just feels like slash fandom is dying out, and I'd like to look up some ships because even if I don't like them, following other slash shippers feels so much nicer than seeing people bash them all the time.

My opinions on Marauders era ship names (my opinions no hate)

— Wolfstar - 7.5/10, I really like it it’s like a wolf howling to the moon but expect to a star, which is strange but beautiful. I’ve heard it sm it’s kinda normal for me idk, it doesn’t strike me that much. ~ Moonstar - 8.5/10, I love this also, I prefer this one tho. This one feels right and just seems more like engaging ig?

— Jily - 8/10, very cute name. Jily is the og name and I love it but.. ~ Flowerpot - 9.5/10 i love this name SM better, it sounds more iconic and rare idk, Flowerpot does different stuff to me. Gives me more love and home-y vides which fit them sm

What are the current big m/m ships that the whole fandom flocks to, aside from the classics like destiel etc.? I have been hanging out mostly in f/f spaces for some time now and I kind fell out of touch with the m/m side of the fandom. Last I've checked there was the pirate show, but what about now? Are there any new juggernauts?

The newest hot ships aren't usually the massive, massive juggernauts. Those tend to be ones that have been around for a bit.

For my money, the most recent fandom-that-ate-fandom was The Untamed and the most recent juggernaut Wangxian

The way I usually get a read on what's up, at least for fanworks, is to go to the m/m tag on ao3 and then filter by date, exclude some things, etc. to see the top 10 or 20 or however many.

So the most boring BTS ship is still going strong, I see.

Generally, AO3 is ever more anime- and kpop-heavy in recent years. A lot of the action is in fandoms outside of ye olde US live action SF shows. I guess 9-1-1 being an emergency services show is kind of in the ballpark of ye olde buddy cop shows, and Stranger Things has been active, but a lot of what's going on is for canonically queer ships, video games, Asian media, etc.

The kinds of fandoms AO3 was built on aren't where the action is at the moment for the most part. (Well, aside from HP.) Though, of course, there are bajillions of mid-size fic fandoms at all times.
