This is in response to the anon that posted this-- dad egbert and mom lalonde having something between them makes all the beta kids related. anon is kinda sorta right but ultimately, the incest in homestuck is just kinda something you gotta role with and the fandom shouldn't care so much about. I want to say my take on the family tree of homestuck. John and Jade are siblings. Jake and Jane are their parents. John's dad is his half brother since Nanna is John and Dad's mother. Jane's dad was Alpha John's son. That's why Jane's dad hugged John at the very end of Homestuck. Dave and Rose are siblings. Dirk and Roxy are their parents. John's grandmother, nanna was raised by the Empress. The Empress descendent is Feferi. John and Jade are related to Feferi through something a kin to adoption but it's nothing to really be that concerned about. ((This is more easily understandable with a visual chart.)) Incest is a bit of a theme throughout homestuck but since everything about the trolls is so alien, it's easy to ignore. It's also hard to know if Mituna is Sollux's ectobiological dad or if it's the other way around. Either way, Karkat made all of the trolls that played the game in a lab. The empress had noncon sex with beta Mituna who was her slave she kept with her for thosands of years. Both their direct decedents ended up dating. Feferi and Sollux is somewhat an incest couple. That's an example of why you really shouldn't care. The moment you think too hard about how much incest is in homestuck, you go down a rabbit hole.

If only the fandom can be okay with incest since people still bitch at others for liking Dersecest. But then again, if people ship DirkRoxy by making Roxy trans, incest is suddenly fine? Or just another case of pick and choose which incest is okay and not okay. Like people saying KatNep is bad cause it is incest incest (cause Signless and Disciple are lovers, making them their kids) despite trolls are fine with it. Like troll incest is fine when people ship Vrisrezi, but human ones like JohnJade is suddenly bad?

So we’re gonna try looking for the others, since my hopes are soaring; I’ve been kin with Roxy Strider (Dave-swapped) for so long and didn’t think I’d ever find anyone from my timeline. Guess patience always pays out? Who knows.

Anyways! Details under the cut about our common memories and then my personal memories. 

(Please note, I am 23. Dirk is 16. If you have problems with interacting with an adult, DNI. We are both 100% okay talking with whoever. Dirk is also Dirk Lalonde, Rose-swapped, so our swaps follow that formatting.)

Memories Dirk and I Share

- I most definitely died. - It’s probable I came back to life (so we think there was a life player somewhere). - It’s probable we exchanged gifts (this is more personable to us, but Dirk gave me a black plush cat made out of soft/fine fake furs?, and I gave him a ribbon on his left wrist, dyed orange and pinks in gradient as a reminder of me/us. - It’s Highly Likely we painted our nails, but if this was in person or over tech is TBD; if you remember seeing us doing this, don’t worry; it likely happened when we were in person too. The question is when Dirk remembers doing it. - Neither of us remember having any symbols on our shirts. Our colors were displayed as our accents (his laces, my hoodie, etc).

Memories I, Roxy, Specifically Have

- I died and I don’t think I godtiered until after I was revived (if I was, and if I did-- I don’t personally remember godtiering, but I also don’t remember if we actually beat the game or not). - I remember specifically playing volleyball with some of the kids on the beach, as the sun was setting. A few of the trolls were starting to poke their heads out to see what we were doing out by the water. - I tied the ribbon to Dirk’s left wrist, since he was left-handed, as a reminder of us. I think this was before I went off and did whatever eventually killed me, and I think this was when at lot of us had finally gathered in one place. - I was blonde, with pink eyes, shades like Dave’s in canon, but my t-shirt was cut so the tops of my shoulders were exposed. I wore a black, wide-strapped tank top underneath that may or may not have been a chest compressor-- I’m not sure if I was a cis male or FTM transgender, but I most definitely identified as male. - I was raised by my mom, who would disappear for sometimes days, so I took to caring for my self as much as necessary. - I think I taught myself how to sew, and I made plushies for a lot of my friends. - I remember chatting with Karkat Maryam about his relationship with Terezi Zahhak, as well as talking to Vriska Makara, though I’m not sure what about. - I was also blonde, and I had dark purple eyes that, with my orange glasses, I usually passed off as black or very dark brown. I was really into the goth aesthetic, specifically kinda Victorian inspired. I wore heeled boots with orange laces, as well as these pants that had orange laces down the sides. I had an over coat that had buttons on each side that I wore pretty much all the time, and orange tint glasses that were octagon shaped - I also don’t really have a lot of memories related to the game, most of my memories are pre-game, or are in the game but not about actually playing it

Me: well he didn't mention it till after Roxy fiddle with his code that stopped him from calling me a faggot, so I just figured it was his new insult

Roxy n Dave had ADHD, me n Dave were colour blind, Dave didn't know growing up n only found out wearing my shades that were both for light sensitivity n colour correction, this is when he realise apples can b green n red, he thought it was like blue razberries

I was the the tannest strilond just cos the rest didn't go outside, be n rose were both red heads, but rose tended to bleach her hair, Dave n Roxy were strawberry blondes

As much as I put in Alot of work in2 building Hal, n built the machine that allowed him w clone a version of himself into a capturelog card, Roxy did most of the additional code that Hal needed to work. Like dirk coded Alot of the preprogrammed responses (tell me abt AR), but is the one who made the capturelog card in2 a functioning AI, I built the hardware, I am a hardware man a heart.

Hal had two major bodies, the first one we (me n equ, lil help from Rox n sol) built for him closely resembled brobot, the second one that took a look longer to design and build was probs close to those fanon designs of Hal, and Hal had a huge part in buliding himself, w/ some help from me n equ

I lived with Dave 4 the first few months, till it got weird living w/ my brother n his bf, n by then I had met equ, n he did not like living in the woods w/ nep, so I just built a house next door to Dave, Hal lived w/ us of course, he was built in2 the house, even when he had his body he controled the house, Caliborn of course lived with us 2 once he jumped time lines. Just 4 bros chilling in a house, buliding robots n watching MLP.

Additionally, I was particularly good friends w/ Nep n Jade, as well as friends Dave, karkat, rose, kanaya, jane n June, also dirk<>Roxy

Kanaya n I liked to sew 2gether, dave karkat june n I liked watch movies 2gether, rose n I vibed w/ being pretentious autistic assholes talking abt philosophy, me n Jane we're very much c3< 4 each other after everything with Jake n I fucking loved her cakez 2.

Me, nep, jade n equ all rped 2gether n made fursonas, I helped sew fursuits, Dave joined sometimes

Part of the reason Jade n I vibe so well, is being around each other was an easy way 2 heal from the crushes we had on each other's dancestor.

I hope this isn't, weird, or anything, but could you, like, explain kin, and kinning (is that the phrase?) bc I think I might kin a character but I've never really read into what that means, so, clarification, mayhaps?

well there are multiple definitions? as ive understood it there are two ways to kin. the one most common and accepted on tumblr is that you are/were the thing you kin in a past life. 

so if you kin a fictional character, such as rose lalonde from homestuck, then you’d have memories of what your life once was. maybe you have memories of marrying kanaya, or maybe you remember instead dating jade or something. the memories do not need to follow canon, as they are YOUR memories. usually then people will take those memories and try to find their canonmates.

the other definition is similar to a comfort character, its relating to a character so much that you physically start to take on some of their traits? im a little fuzzy on that definition as well and some dont accept this as true but personally i have a few like that. this also seems to be a more popular definition in the tik tok cosplay community. 

an example for me would be i have memories of living as dave strider. i dont have memories as jake english, but i do have kinshifts into him anyway. i cosplay, and in both cases i tend to want to or do end up cosplaying them.

Gammaswap, AKA “Alphas and Betas 2: Electric Boogaloo” is an AU where the kids, trolls, and cherubs, all don’t play Sburb/Sgrub. Thus, they go on with their lives as usual and end up having kids, the other biological parents of said kids are not important for the AU.

The AU is basically a next generation sort of idea, the difference being none of the characters’ kids are with any of the other main characters. The characters in Gammastuck are descendants or children of the other characters, they are not those characters, they’re going to be different people with different traits, however a lot of the time they will mirror their respective parent/ancestor and play in their roll. Their other parent will not be specified for the sake of not complicating the Homestuck gene pool further.

This is a hypothetical AU, it shouldn’t be taken too seriously or held to canon standards such as “Karkat should have died!” Or “This name/color rule was broken” , so please don’t be a buzzkill, take this with a grain of salt, it’s all just for fun! The reason it’s called GammaSWAP and not GammaSTUCK is because the kids are being swapped as the players of Sburb/Sgrub, and “Gammastuck” is an existing AU, apparently. Alright, with disclaimers out of the way, please have fun!

A: Nope! Those are both amazing AUs in their in regards, but in a way this is kind of the polar opposite of Guardianstuck. Guardianstuck is actually an AU that’s by one of our mods, Mod D, and you guys should all check it out! It’s super wonderful and he’s put a lot of work into it!

Q: Why “-swap” and not “-stuck”?

A: “-Stuck” was taken, but “-swap” works better, because it’s a swap AU, with different characters.

INTRODUCTION: JESUS THIS IS CRINGE

Here’s an introductory thought: capitalization has ruined everything forever. 

When it comes to capitalizing or not-capitalizing online, especially in the case of ‘formal’ writing, and ESPECIALLY if zero professors are reading and grading it, there is no ‘good’ answer. Maybe this is as a result of everything I do feeling  fundamentally affected. I’ve spent the entirety of my life putting ‘thought’ into self-presentation and how it affects people. This is probably my fault more than anybody else’s. 

the fact of the matter is, if i write like this, then i’m trying to be “poetic” and “e.e. cummings”, and if I write like this, then the Rose Lalonde kinnie in me is only held back by the fact that a true Rose Lalonde kinnie would never admit to kinning Rose Lalonde. Also, I'm not about to claim I know what ‘kinning’ is and whether I’ve ever experienced. I am open to being kin-assigned by all who care to provide input, but that’s the same thing as willingly participating in my own ‘kinning’. 

(Also, if i had a kin list, it would have harriet vane on it.) 

is the answer to capitalization, then, to be wildly inconsistent? to eschew punctuation along with capitalization to demonstrate that im not and will never be claiming to be e.e. cummings because at least presumably he used apostrophes? (dont correct me if he did.) 

Or is it perchance to type like jake english thus heroically reaping the benefits of just one tantalizing capital letter per sentence? Really makes you think does it not.

probably not the last one but HOW FUNNY would it be if i typed like that for the rest of my life. 

the fact of the matter is that blogging is a fucking pain in the ass because reading the blog of anyone i know in real life is a fucking pain in the ass. performance is embarrassing when people know you’re doing it! sending gene my fanfiction is always fun because he can determine with razor-sharp precision the bits of my own psyche that dribble tantalizingly into dirk strider or terezi pyrope or whoever you want. i think that kind of thing is extremely fun! and microblogging is nice because if you drop little bits of your thoughts into the world, nobody knows exactly how authentic they are because they don’t have the space to analyze it.

the issue of blogging is that it is public, longform, and consumable. it’s half public journal entry, half nonfiction essay. it is both reflective and personal and, somehow, entertaining, though there are very few thinkers i find compelling enough to willingly subscribe to Everything Their Voice Says, and very few people i can imagine doing this for me, even people who i know love me! so maybe this is exposure therapy or maybe this is an experiment that will fall apart within moments. 

online has always been like this, and also my real life has always been like this. there’s a snippet from a journal entry i wrote in 2016 that really got it. 

“i think hamlet has got me thinking about self-image and performativity, because obviously the whole play is obsessed with like, the acts that people put on and how we're seen and who watches us and whom we watch and what's an act and what isn't. and like, i'm really not at all like hamlet, because i'm not proto-nihilistic, or a raging misogynist, and i also highly doubt that i've got depression. which hamlet obviously does. but i think that something in me obviously connects to him - not directly, not like i connected to antigone, but . i don't know, i'm a distinctly emotional person who is also highly fixated on the way the world sees her, and also on how she sees herself. i say "i'm talking to myself", but i'm not - i never talk to myself, but i do address an audience that i can't see but that can see me. that makes it sound like i'm convinced that people are watching me 100% of the time or something and - i do say these things for myself, so to speak, but not to myself. i don't write this journal to myself... i keep on imagining my past self, or someone in the future, or someone i know, reading it and reacting to it, because like i said above - i can't do anything if it's not for an audience of some sort. which implies some kind of implicit belief that what i'm saying is not only worth hearing, but also worth the rapt observation of people i know won't exist.”
