#JUSTICE FOR AMALIA

So I woke up today and chose to cry cuz omg Amalia’s life is shit compared to her friends:

1) Her dad, the only one in her family who let her out to go adventuring and live a free life for a temporary time, is dying and is highly likely that he’ll die in season 4. (Season 3-4)

2) Armand keeps judging her every action and doesn’t take her seriously. (Seasons 1-2-manga-OVAS-season 3)

3) Aurora and Armand keep trying to marry her off by making her interact with princes from other kingdoms. (Season 3)

4) Amalia can’t even talk about anything else other than politics with her family, so she now wants to eat in her room. Alone. (Season 3)

5) Yugo clearly said that he puts his and Amalia’s relationship to the back burner because he has other more important things to worry about, making her think that she’s not as important as she thought she’d be to him. (Season 3)

6) Not getting the respect by the men she started to like and gets used by them (Count Harebourg and Oropo) (But Harebourg did like her tho I mean why else would he obsessively stalk her during her adventures??) She technically gets heartbroken three times because of the conversation she overheard with Yugo and fake Ruel (Sipho). (OVA BOOK 1 - Season 3)

7) Getting rudely told by fake Ruel (Sipho) that she’s not important and that he personally doesn’t understand why Yugo likes her because of the way that ‘she looks’ which makes her now feel self-conscious. (EXCUSE ME BITCH WHO TF ARE YOU?!?!? YOU’RE SO UGLY YOU HAVE TO PRETEND TO BE ANYONE ELSE OTHER THAN YOURSELF. Bitch is blind cuz he can’t see her hourglass figure with that big ass, perfect pretty chocolate brown skin with no wrinkles or acne problems, luscious green hair with no knots perfectly tied up, and a cute face. No wonder Yugo likes her, the dude is into adorable flowers.) (Season 3)

I MEAN JUST LOOK AT HER ‼️‼️‼️‼️

8) Getting told by her own friends that she acts like a spoiled brat when she clearly stopped being too bratty and literally TRIED THROWING AWAY HER LIFE FOR HAREBOURG TO SAVE HER PEOPLE FROM OGREST’S BULLSHIT. (OVA BOOK 1)

9) Is absolutely not even comfortable in her own kingdom to the point that even her own dying father can tell she’s not feeling well. (Season 3)

10) The only thing she has ever genuinely smiled at (besides her kiss with Yugo), was meeting Dathura for the first time. (Season 3)

11) Didn’t get taken seriously when she tried telling Armand about Yugo and Adamaï. (Season 1)

12) Didn’t get taken seriously by Eva when she told her about the dream she had of Sadida telling her to search for Yugo. (Season 1)

13) Got called a ‘salad’ by some guards from a city and by Toross in a sneak peek from Season 4 (Seasons 2-4)

14) Her best friend, Eva, is now too busy with her family to be in touch with her like they used to so Amalia pretty much has to deal with her problems on her own most of the time and can’t rely on a close friend for support. (OVA BOOK 1-2-3 - Season 3)

15) Everyone in the Brotherhood of the Tofu has someone in their life that makes them a duo whether it’s romantic or familial: Dally and Evangelyne, Yugo and Adamai, Elely and Flopin, Ruel and Arpagone. Amalia has no one. (Seasons 1-2-OVAS-3)

16) The queen of the Sadida Kingdom died when Amalia was just a young child. Because of the death of her mother at such a young age, Amalia already had some family trauma from the start. She grew up with two men, with no motherly or feminine presence in her life. With no exemple from any female role model, she became spoiled, bratty, and rude to the people she deems as inferior to her princess status. (Seasons 1-2-manga)

Please I just want season 4 to do her justice cuz at this point, I’m just genuinely impressed that she hasn’t cracked yet.

The fact that season 1 only gave us hints of the beginning of her troubles is wild tho…

Okay, so maybe Amalia was constantly being ignored and overshadowed by Evangelyne in terms of looks during the first two seasons (as she should, given she was a literal child encountering creepy, older guys. That's not to say Eva deserved it either, but at least she is four years older), but at least Amalia has the dubious honour of all her admirers once she grew up being objectively hot—even if two of them were downright psychotic.

Wakfu The Great Wave : Chapter 16

Beware of spoilers and mentions of child abuse/mutilation.

Chapter 16 starts with Lilotte's lookalike. I call her Linot, but she was introduced as #13 in this chapter. Here she is, presenting the stolen jewel to the ringleader of her group.

The old Ouginak, who looks like a walrus and must smell like one too, berates the kid for getting caught when she was stealing the ring.

Walrus guy, colourised :

This is when his cruelty is displayed for the majority of this short chapter. Walrus forces the starving urchins he "took under his care" to steal for him, and doesn't hesitate to beat and mutilate them as punishment. Several children are shown with scars and missing limbs and eyes.

You don't need a business degree to understand that thieves and pickpockets need those body parts for their questionable activities. How is butchering those kids going to make them more efficient or Walrus any richer? The only way would be if the kids were to beg in the streets, once they are too maimed to steal. Awful business model, terrible, in the long run, BUT at least it would make more sense than this blind violence. Oh well, trash will trash.

There might be no justice irl, but there is some in Wakfu!

While the wretched walrus was waving that blade and yelling like a chihuahua, a lone hero appeared. HIM !

Obviously, Joris was ready to save the day and clean up the trash (off-screen).

That panel with Walrus hearing the boss music was chef's kiss!

After dealing with Walrus, Joris then guided the children to his shop. It was so sad seeing them walk among the population. Some of the kids were looking around anxiously, making themselves small, etc.

Me, when Little #27 called Joris "master" and my boy immediately shut that down because there was no way Joris Jurgen, first of his name, was EVER going to be associated with that child abuser or let those kids think for a second that they'd ever have to fear him. You drop this, King 👑

...only to remember his title is literally "Master Joris" (Maître Joris, in the French version).

I know it's not the same, but it's still a bit funny if not ironic, especially with how Joris turned up in Waven.

Well, this looks like the beginning of found family wholesomeness with Little #27 hero-worshipping Joris and #13 (Linot) looking ready to take on the world! So much hope!

...until Tot and co remind everyone this webtoon is rated MA for "Mostly Angst".

Here come Yugo and my beloved Amalia, ominously sitting in the dark like some emo kids. One Adamai is one emo too many.

That accidental eyeliner carried Season 4! 🤣

Look at Yugo! Those bags under his eyes look so deep Amalia's closet could fit in them. That belladonna poison really did a number on him.

Random, but tell me why Yugo looked a bit like :

I don't think Yugo is angry or suspicious of Joris, his long-time ally. Instead, I believe the Eliatrope went to his friend for intel on Rasalar and possibly to brainstorm how to bypass the dragon's ultimatum with the person who knows this new enemy the best : Joris.

Indeed, Joris was the guardian of the Ebony Dofus with Rasalar possessing his body since infancy. Their "partnership" lasted for a while before the two separated. According to the lore, it was because their visions no longer aligned, but the webtoon has yet to mention this bit.

On a side note, Wakfu is really light on the nobility protocol thing.

This mission is a delicate matter, maybe even a State secret now, but why didn't the only two acting royals of the Sadida and Eliatrope kingdom(s) stay home and discreetly call for Joris instead ? Yumalia is out there all the time like their kingdom is not on fire !

There are still some pressing issues outside a mewing reptile threatening bodily harm. What of the aftermath of a king getting poisoned during a mixed wedding? What happened with a queen who fought against and kicked out a foreign monarch and the consort of late King Armand (allegedly pregnant with an heir to the Sadida throne)? What of the growing tensions between the cohabiting Sadidas and Eliatropes?

Don't Yugo and Amalia have anyone trustworthy and useful among their people? An envoy to contact Joris? Anyone but two high-profile royals coming incognito (I hope it was incognito) to a small shop in Bonta, the City whose queen was extremely wary of anything Eliatrope ?

What about Adamaï? Did he leave to find help elsewhere? I hope he didn't just hop and leave after chapter 13 like...

That why I really wished Amalia had more ties to her kingdom. Apart from her now dead family and those two eunuchs, Amalia doesn't seem to have anyone close to her. A Sadida princess with only one friend, a Cra who used to be a bodyguard and now lives peacefully far away from the Sadida kingdom ? So many people, yet there's no other noble or commoner to befriend apart from Evangeline ? Even during the years they were apart? I know the whole "it's lonely at the top" but come on!

Yugo is no better, but he has the excuse of not being among his people for most of his life.

*Sigh* I have never seen (fictional) key political figures doing so much to get out of their kingdom. It's not even funny any more! It feels like Amalia and Yugo are doing everything but rule their kingdom.

Seriously, it's great that Wakfu is not really a typical political fiction, because Yumalia would have been out of a crown with a quickness with all their mess 🤣

The chapter concludes with the dark look on Yugo's face as more key players enter the fray.

Excerpt from this Chicago Tribune story:

In a letter filed in federal court, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency said the proposed expansion of a toxic waste dump on the Southeast Side would go against state law. It’s the latest development in a lengthy battle over the future of a 45-acre disposal site on the Lake Michigan shoreline.

“This is a major win for our community, to have both the Illinois attorney general and the Illinois EPA say that the expansion of this toxic landfill will not be (approved),” said Amalia NietoGomez, executive director of social justice nonprofit Alliance of the Southeast.

Since 1984, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been dumping toxic sediment dredged from the Calumet River into the now-full containment site, which contains mercury, arsenic and polychlorinated biphenyls or PCBs. After reaching capacity or after 10 years, whichever came first, the property was to be returned to the Chicago Park District to restore as a park for the largely Black and Latino community.

Four decades later, the property hasn’t been turned over to the community, and the Army Corps wants to raise the dump 25 feet, piling an additional 1 million cubic yards of toxic sediment over another 20 years. In 2023, the Alliance of the Southeast and Friends of the Parks sued the Army Corps to stop the expansion.

So far, the Illinois EPA has denied the federal agency all of the state water quality permits it would need to proceed. The state’s Attorney General Kwame Raoul has also staunchly opposed the proposed project; in 2024 he filed an amicus brief in support of turning the dump into a public park.

More recently on Jan. 16, Raoul filed — alongside a supplemental brief with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois — a letter that the state’s environmental agency had sent to the Army Corps the previous day. In that letter, the Illinois EPA said the Army Corps’ proposal is contrary to some environmental regulations, including an Illinois law that prohibits the construction of new landfills or the expansion of existing landfills in Cook County.

It's even more annoying for Eva cuz she had that damn outfit since season 3 and even Waven doesn't bother making her wear anything else. They're not even letting her wear her kickstarter outfit in the game for some reason, please she looks like she willingly chose to keep on wearing those rags 😭😭😭

The more I think about it, the more I think the budget for season 4 was misspent when it came to the character designs.

For starters, you're telling me it was absolutely necessary to redesign the Osamodas King, someone who already had a perfectly good design they keep using nonetheless, even though (webtoon aside) he only had a few minutes of screentime and a handful of lines, and the fandom doesn't care all that much about him in the first place?

Or how about the fact that they also redesigned the Prince of Brâkmar? I get it was probably to highlight how he was now king (if my memory doesn't fail me), but considering the overall aesthetic doesn't change all that much, I can't help but find it unnecessary.

Not to mention how they introduced Astra and her wife (a fact that I adore, don't get me wrong. Literal lesbian queens for the win) for the exact same purpose: just a few minutes of screentime.

Come on! This is a reoccurring pattern!

You're telling me The Assembly introduced rulers who weren't even part of the Council of Twelve back in season 2 just to really hammer in the fact that the Eliatropes are unwelcomed outsiders, but Ankama couldn't afford to give Eva her Kickstarter design or to create a proper wedding dress for Amalia?

What a waste of money, in my opinion...
