Here's another slice of off-kilter/yet beautiful music from Sweden - courtesy a new band named Stenhjärta. This is being released by Grapefruit Records, and according to the Bandcamp page:

"Stenhjärta, a new duo consisting of Gustaf Dicksson & Magnus Jäverling. Both are active in the Swedish Underground music scene centered in Gothenburg. Gustaf is known for his shape-shifting prolific solo project, Blod, as well as his participation in the notable music collective, Enhet för Fri Musik. Magnus is somewhat newer to the scene, appearing on some Blod recordings as well as releasing a fascinating concept album called Bowdark on the Discreet Music label in 2022."

About a year ago, we posted about another Discreet Music release - JJ Band. I can't recommend it enough.

Late last September we posted about a release from JJulius (Gothenburg, Sweden). JJ Band is Julius Pierstorff (JJulius...who is also a member of Monokultur and Skiftande Enheter) Clara Flygare, Gustav Danielsbacka, and Mattias Rörström (who apparently runs Happiest Place Records).

I learned about this via Digital Regress. They are selling the 12" (45 rpm) of this release. You can also find the physical release on Discreet Music's webstore. Here, JJ Band is compared to Felt and Skifande Enheter.

There's only 4 songs here, but they're all winners.

The sky darkened overhead as the night fell, settling the anxious crowd under a blanket of stars. The Pogues were set to play in their hometown after months of touring all over the country, and everyone had gathered at the bonehead to see them play.

Smoke clouded the air as the fires in the pits crackled and danced with the slight wind. Kooks, Pogues, and Tourons alike crowded the beach and stood waiting in anticipation around the mock-up stage placed for the band.

Then came the opening notes of a familiar guitar and the crowd burst into screams. It was simply electric.

JJ winked into the crowd and they all screamed even louder than the band thought was possible. He could just imagine the uptight kooks throwing a fit, complaining at the loud music. And that’s exactly why he wanted to play here, on the boneyard, where no one had to pay to get in. Where they could play freely, as a huge fuck you to everyone who said they couldn’t make it because here they were, one of the biggest and hottest new music sensations in the world.

You blew him a kiss back, swaying to the music, the very one he’d pretended to capture and place in the back pocket of his shorts.. the crowd none the wiser.

Hints of the sun peeked through the darkness, sunrise on its way as you wrapped your arms around your boyfriend, holding him close as you sat on the stage long after the show, both your legs dangling off the edge. It had been one of the best shows they’d played, and with their adrenaline still high, you all decided to bask in the moment for a little longer, watching the sun rise.

JJ jumped off the stage and onto the sand, scooping your body and holding you close to his bare chest, your fingers tracing and drawing shapes into his skin while he announced that you were both off to bed and that he’ll see them in a couple of hours seeing as it already was morning.

He whispered sweet promises, nipping at your ear and smothering you in kisses the whole walk back to the Chateau. Or more accurately, the whole time he carried you back, dropping you on his bed with a fake thud, and whining at how much he missed you.

He definitely showed you exactly how much he missed you…all of you.

And when you both turned up to brunch, a little sleep deprived, hickeys coating both of your skin, money was passed around, Pope unsurprisingly winning the round of bets. Laughter echoed as you buried your head into JJ’s chest, cheeks burning and smiles never leaving either of your faces. God if felt good to be home.

Two more patches I made last night.

I hand paint everything without a stencil. I use a grey lead pencil to roughly draft where I want the letters to go (it's just shiny enough to see on black fabric) then carefully paint everything on with fabric paint.

Chapter 12 - blood and death and war and pain.

The rain was sharp and cold as Pollie walked back from the CP. As the darkness enveloped her, her thoughts drifted from the meeting she’d just left back to her early days with the 82nd. The doubts about women paratroopers had been there, too. Officers were skeptical about the physical strength of women, sure, but even more so about the strength of their minds. Could a woman kill? Do women have enough malice in their hearts to take a life? Yes, it turned out. They had more than enough. Pollie felt lost to her malice. She remembered back to her girlhood in Pennsylvania, to climbing trees and skipping stones and picking wildflowers. The future had felt endless and grand then as if the whole world lay just over the mountains. Well, Pollie thought, I know what’s over the mountains now. Blood and death and war and pain. So, so much pain.
