Vended - S/T
Being the child of a famous musician has to be hard, especially if you’re going into music as well, because no matter what type of music you make, you’ve got both the reputation of your parent(s) preceding you, as well as living in their shadow, so to speak. No matter what, you’ll be compared to them, but it makes sense if you’re in the same genre. Take Vended and their self-titled debut album for example, which just came out recently. These guys are partially composed of sons of two Slipknot members, Corey Taylor and Shawn Crahan. Their sons, Griffin and Simon, are picking up the torch, and it’s both a blessing and a curse that they’re basically Slipknot 2.
Just one look at them, and you can see that their whole gimmick is Slipknot, but I have to give them credit — they make it work very well. I didn’t like debut EP from 2021, as it felt too much like Slipknot and that whole 00s nu-metal / heavy metal scene, so I was cautious optimistic for their debut album. I gotta say, it’s actually really cool, albeit still leaning into their influences (and their dads) just a bit. It’s not enough, however, to where it’s a clear rip-off, because it’s not. You can’t even really call this nu-metal, but it has elements of it.
Instead this album pulls from a lot of different sounds and ideas, and it becomes a smorgasbord of metal and heavy music, versus being a straightforward nu-metal album or groove metal. Everyone sounds great, and it makes sense that Griffin Taylor sounds like his father, because that’s how genetics work, but he doesn’t sound too much like him, either. He isn’t doing a Corey Taylor impression, and I’m quite impressed by that, actually. I also really love how short this album is, because it’s only 37 minutes, so it never stays beyond its welcome. It feels like the perfect length, and its replay value is really high for that.
I’m not going to say it just yet, because I’ve only given the album a handful of listens, but this album could be on my album of the year list. Give it some time, and some more listens, but I could see it there. I haven’t listened to a lot of new music in the last few months that I’ve truly loved, which isn’t to say that nothing’s come out that I’ve enjoyed, but I’ve also been focusing on a few older albums. This is the first new album that I’ve really enjoyed, but it also really surprised me. I didn’t think I’d enjoy this as much as I do, but I really enjoy this thing. They aren’t a Slipknot clone when they could have easily phoned it in, but they’re doing something interesting, so I’m excited to see where their career goes from here.

The band consisting of the children of nu-metal legends Shawn “Clown” Crahan and Corey Taylor (Simon and Griffin respectively), Vended are finally dropping their first album!
The first single from the album to drop was “Am I The Only One”, bass like a live wire, a seductive otherworldly melodic vocals sprinkled between the barked chorus, it makes you feel things, my only ‘Knot comparison is the chaotic nature, like a little journey of its own. It’s insanity how much Griffin Taylor sounds like his Dad Corey, “The Far Side” vocally is like early Stone Sour vs early Slipknot, no DNA test needed there at all, musically it’s more nu-metal carnage, but I can’t deny it I can’t not compare it to Slipknot, I’m sorry lads but it just does sound so similar in style! NOT COMPLAINING because I love it but I can’t not point that one out in particular. “Nihilism” came 3rd, clean and unclean duet for a chorus, a tasty extended breakdown, gnarly drum rolls, it’s the most Slipknot sounding track so far but nobody cares they’re incredible at this style like they were born into it, heh. “Serenity” was the last single to drop, it’s got a big thumping riff and a menacing sickly sweet clean chorus, the whole thing just gets bigger and more explosive and magnificent. “Downfall” takes the chyna symbol and smashes it repeatedly over your head, I love that, it’s a lot more playful and is only a couple minutes long so is a short blast.
It’s a great debut album, however that being said I think for album number 2 I am hopeful they will put a touch more distance between them and the Slipknot label BUT only a touch. We must be close to the Knot retiring its been such a long time, I always pray it won’t happen but one day it will, and even then the doubters of Vended will be extraordinarily grateful that they decided to take that style of music and carried the torch on into the next generation, let it never EVER die.

Idk if its metal you’re into, but I just saw Vended. And holy fucking shit. Griffin Taylor signed my wristband and I got Simon Crahan’s drumstick. HE PLACED IT RIGHT IN MY FUCKING HAND.
I was so close to them— I was physically in the closest spot to them, aka right at Griffin Taylor’s feet.
FUCK IT WAS SO COOL
How have you been? I hope well. My tumblr is so fucked up and it wont show me any of the posts from people I follow, so I havent seen anything from mutuals or familiars on my feed this week. Its pissing me the fuck off.
Why cant tumblr just be nice 🥲
Fuck yeah!!! It is metal I'm into! I haven't heard much of Vended (but I like what I have heard). Sounds like a really great night! So cool that you got so much interaction with them. I'm hoping to be that close to Katatonia in a couple weeks!
Tumblr has been being awful lately. My dash keeps seeming like it's dead and then I click into the "for you" tab and THAT'S where all my friends are. It's really rude and I'm sick of it too!

VENDED UNLEASH FEROCIOUS, DEBUT SELF-TITLED ALBUM
VENDED UNLEASH FEROCIOUS, DEBUT SELF-TITLED ALBUM. #vended @OfficialVended
The wait is over. Metal’s next titans of brutality have arrived. Today, Des Moines’ heaviest band to come along in decades, VENDED, has released their long-awaited debut, self-titled, self-released album. What began in 2018 as Cole Espeland (guitar), Griffin Taylor (vocals), Simon Crahan (drums), Jeremiah Pugh (bass) and Connor Grodzicki (guitar) were just teenagers, has escalated into a full…

VENDED: Album Review

Featuring vocalist Griffin Taylor, Simon Crahan on drums, Jeremiah Pugh on bass, Cole Espland on lead guitar, and Connor Grodzicki on rhythm guitar.   On this album they have taken more abrasive elements of nu metal as seen in the late 90s from bands like Slipknot and Soulfly and…

Vended fan?
FUCK YES!!!!!! The more my friend group and I listen to Vended, the more we fall in love with them and their music. Of course we love that the band has two sons of Slipknot members AKA Griffin Taylor is Corey's son, and Simon is Clown's (Shawn Crahan's) son, and listening to this band is making all of us really excited for the future of metal music. Griffin sounds like a clone of his dad, and his screams remind me of early 2000s Slipknot. my friend group and I are beyond excited to see them next month when they open for Slipknot in Iowa!!!! We know who is going to carry on Slipknot's legacy one day for sure, and we are happy to be fans of this band before they really hit it 'big' but that is going to be coming!!! They are learning from the best of the best, and the more I listen to Griffin and his vocals/screams I just get more impressed with just how much Griffin sounds like his dad, and my metal heart is very very happy and impressed with their talent!!! When I was listening to their song Nihilism especially, I thought it was Corey I swear to god??? Slipknot 2.0 baby is very much alive with this band, and now I’m hoping we have another 40 years of Slipknot with Vended but speaking of Slipknot they better never ever ever ‘retire’ anytime soon they are not allowed to as far as I’m concerned
