Different Filters, Different Telescopes, Same Beautiful Planetary Nebula
Top two ~
NGC 6543, Cat's Eye Nebula Imaged with Hubble
Credits: (left) NASA, ESA, J.P. Harrington and K.J. Borkowski (U. Maryland)(right) NASA, STScI, and Z. Levay
These two images of the Cat's Eye Nebula were both taken with the Hubble Space Telescope. The image on the left was taken in 1994 with the Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2) in filters that isolate hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen. The image on the right uses a sulfur filter taken with WFPC2 and combines it with hydrogen and oxygen filters taken in 2002 with the Advanced Camera for Surveys High Resolution Camera (ACS/HRC). (Note: the red line in the image on the right is an artifact of the HRC "occulting finger" used to block out starlight on bright sources.)
Lower two ~
NGC 6543, Cat's Eye Nebula Imaged with NOT
Credits: (left) R. Corradi (Isaac Newton Group) and D. Goncalves (Inst. Astrofisica de Canarias) (right) Nordic Optical Telescope and R. Corradi (Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes, Spain)
The next two images are also of the Cat's Eye Nebula, taken with the ground-based Nordic Optical Telescope (NOT), located on the island of La Palma, in the Canary Islands. Notice that the wide field of view of the ground-based telescope shows nebulosity out beyond the central region that was imaged by Hubble. Both images were taken by astronomer, Romano Corradi, in two narrow-band filters: nitrogen and oxygen. The images differ in the assignment of the color scheme used to show the differing filters. The left image shows nitrogen in red and oxygen in green and blue shades. The right image shows oxygen in blue and nitrogen in red.
Tumblr media
This image of the Cat's Eye Nebula shows the full extent of the ACS images that are not visible in the release image or the HRC images on this page. Three more pointings of the ACS Wide Field Camera would be necessary to cover the faint outer shell structure.

How can I contribute? Jonathan encourages this. How can you contribute? Not necessarily because others need you to, or not only because others need you to, but maybe more because he knows you and he knows what you’re like and you should contribute. It’s good for you. Are you doing something useful? Is that the same thing?
The conversion of potentiality to actuality.
Imagine a distant past where the mist and fog shrouded flatlands, spreading out towards the sea, rich with bird and water life. There were few landmarks emerging from the mists of what was then essentially swampland. If weather obscured the hills there was no way of knowing where you were. That is if it were not for the tī kōuka (cabbage trees) that were carefully planted in significant places to mark out routes across the land like green spiky beacons.[1]
We go to Moeraki. An uncle, remembered favourably, sells “our” land at the kaik. The carcass of the caravan he dragged up there after he’d sold it still sits there. Where exactly we’ve only just learnt. It has been there a long time and if we’re too eager we’ll be the ones who have to remove it. Kiri goes to find out who bought it.
Welcome to the club, pal
Tōhoku mooooorihariha kē Rorohuri e Whakarakirua Kai kō tāhaku wā ko tīpoupou
How can I contribute? I commission a hei tiki from carver Lewis Gardiner (Te Arawa, Ngāti Awa, Te Whānau Ā Apanui, Ngāi Tahu). A taonga from the future called back to encourage some reluctant optimism, or maybe purpose, and a mate for me and for the ones after us. Watching from a place like te kore. The unknown future, full of potential (like a school report card—should try harder). Kiri names her. Ko Maheno ia. He kaihautu o te waka Mānuka.
Whakāroaro noa, me uruwehi au? Kāhore kau! Ko whai arokā e! [2]
If The Secret says everything one wants or needs can be satisfied by believing in an outcome, then this isn’t that. It’s doing something, active participation in making a future I might care to be a part of. Dipping a toe into the swamp of existential dread rather than wallowing in it. With the help of my whānau, my mates and the whakapapa we bring with us.
YOLO

58 colleges with 1st-round QB picks since Ohio State’s last before Dwayne Haskins
Tumblr media
Haskins is the first since Art Schlichter went to the (Baltimore) Colts.
Dwayne Haskins went 15th overall to Washington in the NFL Draft It ends astonishing streak for Ohio State, one of the best recruiters and most dominant teams in college football.
In 1982, the Baltimore Colts drafted OSU quarterback Art Schlichter with the fourth pick. He only lasted parts of four years in the league, and he’s more famous now for going to prison for stealing to finance a gambling habit.
Schlichter was the last Ohio State QB to get taken in the first round. Nine Buckeye QBs have been drafted elsewhere, but nobody higher than Tom Tupa, 68th overall, in the 1988 third round.
It makes some sense that Ohio State hasn’t had a first-round (or even second-round) QB since Schlichter. Going back to Troy Smith in the mid-2000s, the Buckeyes’ QBs have tended to be great runners who ranged from bad to somewhat above-average passers: Terrelle Pryor, Braxton Miller, J.T. Barrett, and Cardale Jones. (In the most uninformed corners, this perception may follow Haskins.) Until Haskins and now-head coach Ryan Day took the reins in 2018, OSU was a spread-to-run team.
But that doesn’t explain the late ‘80s, the ‘90s, or the early aughts.
There were 88 first-round QBs between 1983, the first year of OSU’s drought, and the few picks before Haskins went in 2019. They’ve come from all kinds of programs, but let’s start low on the food chain. (Thanks to the great search engine at Sports Reference for its help.)
FCS teams
UC Davis: Ken O’Brien
Alcorn State: Steve McNair
Delaware: Joe Flacco
North Dakota State: Carson Wentz
Wentz’s North Dakota State would have wailed on the vast majority of FBS teams at the time he was drafted in 2016. Actually, NDSU still would. These are nonetheless programs at a level that currently allows 63 scholarships (max) producing more of these guys than OSU.
FBS non-powers
Colorado State: Kelly Stouffer
San Diego State: Dan McGwire
Miami (Ohio): Ben Roethlisberger
Utah: Alex Smith
Memphis: Paxton Lynch
Wyoming: Josh Allen
Duke: Daniel Jones
FBS non-powers that have had two first-round QBs in this span
UCF: Daunte Culpepper, Blake Bortles
Marshall: Chad Pennington, Byron Leftwich
Fresno State: Trent Dilfer, David Carr
Tulane: Patrick Ramsey, J.P. Losman
The non-power ranks have produced two Super Bowl-winning starters (Dilfer and Roethlisberger), a few solid NFL QBs (Pennington, Leftwich), and probably the oddest fact on this list, which is that Tulane had two first-round QBs between 2002 and 2004.
Junior colleges
Blinn College: Cam Newton
Butte Community College: Aaron Rodgers
Reedley College: Josh Allen
I’m exercising my right to double-count these players’ JUCOs to suit my own agenda. I will not count Troy Aikman for Oklahoma, however, because I don’t want to.
Current Power 5 schools that are funny
Illinois: Tony Eason, Jeff George
Purdue: Jim Everett
Vanderbilt: Jay Cutler
Boston College: Matt Ryan
Kansas State: Josh Freeman
We all have those players whose alma maters we forget, even though we know in our hearts they went there. For me, Cutler’s a first-team all “oh yeah, he went there” talent.
Pac-12 schools with serious bulk quantity
Oregon: Chris Miller, Akili Smith, Joey Harrington, Marcus Mariota
UCLA: Troy Aikman, Tommy Maddox, Cade McNown, Josh Rosen
Cal: Kyle Boller, Aaron Rodgers, Jared Goff
USC: Todd Marinovich, Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Mark Sanchez, Sam Darnold
Everyone else
Pitt: Dan Marino
Penn State: Todd Blackledge, Kerry Collins
Stanford: John Elway, Andrew Luck
Iowa: Chuck Long
Michigan: Jim Harbaugh
Miami: Jim Kelly, Vinny Testaverde
Houston: Andre Ware, David Klingler
Notre Dame: Rick Mirer, Brady Quinn
Washington State: Drew Bledsoe, Ryan Leaf
Tennessee: Heath Shuler, Peyton Manning
Virginia Tech: Jim Druckenmiller, Michael Vick
Syracuse: Donovan McNabb
Kentucky: Tim Couch
Florida: Rex Grossman, Tim Tebow
NC State: Philip Rivers
Ole Miss: Eli Manning
Auburn: Jason Campbell, Cam Newton
Texas: Vince Young
LSU: JaMarcus Russell
Georgia: Matt Stafford
Oklahoma: Sam Bradford, Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray
Florida State: Christian Ponder, EJ Manuel, Jameis Winston
Missouri: Blaine Gabbert
Washington: Jake Locker
Oklahoma State: Brandon Weeden
Texas A&M: Ryan Tannehill, Johnny Manziel
Baylor: Robert Griffin III
Louisville: Teddy Bridgewater, Lamar Jackson
Clemson: Deshaun Watson
Texas Tech: Patrick Mahomes
North Carolina: Mitchell Trubisky
Houston’s here because when Ware and Klingler got drafted, in 1990 and ‘92, the Cougars were still in the Southwest Conference, which had A&M, Texas, and nearly half of the modern Big 12. Seems like a power conference to me. Let’s just move along.
(Both of the Houston QBs were pretty significant busts — top-seven picks two years apart who went on to go a combined 7-23 with 21 TD passes to 30 picks.)
To Ohio State fans, the greatest thing about Haskins ending this streak is obvious.
For at least a year, Buckeye fans will now be able to add “Michigan hasn’t had a first-round QB since Jim Harbaugh” to their list of reasons to laugh at their rivals.

Sonic Theaters New Take on the Audio Book
The audio book is an art that has existed officially since 1931 but essentially, probably from the beginning of time. People have always enjoyed reading books aloud and hearing someone's voice express a truly beautiful thought. In 1931 Congress established talking-book program, which was originally intended to help adults who were blind. One year later the first talking books in America were produced. One of the most notable audio books released in early times was the work of author and oral historian J.P. Harrington, who recorded histories of Native American tribes on aluminum discs.
As the decades passed, audio books became popular among the entire population. Though at one point limited to school and public libraries, by the 1980s there was a focused effort to attract book retailers. Readers were excited to hear the vocal inflections of their favorite narrative so that scenes would come alive all the more so. Some books in the modern age may feature merely a narrator's voice, while others are dramatic products complete with sound effects and multiple character voices. www.sonic-club.com
The newest technological jump when it comes to audio books will be in Satellite Radio. Whereas most readers probably do enjoy the idea of listening to a great book, few are willing to pay full price for one, especially when they can listen to the radio for free. XM Satellite Radio offers the perfect compromise: subscribe to a network with numerous channels of original programming and get audio dramas for free. XM's contribution to great aural literature is in Sonic Theater, a channel devoted to playing audio books and radio dramas. The channel is broadcast on weekdays Monday through Friday.
Listening to audiobooks on satellite radio is the creative person's alternative to news talk, music and weather. Imagine reliving your favorite scene from Sherlock Holmes or episodes of the Twilight Zone? Ever wanted to read new classics like The Joy Luck Club but lacked the time? Need some romance in your life with a Harlequin Romance read aloud? This is the advantage of XM's Sonic Theater, a full channel of audio books that you don't have to pay extra for and for which you can always find the time to listen. After all, what's the better way to spend the afternoon-catching up on some old classics or listening to commercials for California avocados?
What are some of the audio books and other audio-lit content that have been read at Sonic Theater? Among others enjoyed have been The Ancient World, Orson Scott Card's Universe, L.A. Theatre Works, "The Play's The Thing", Random House Audio, Writers on Writing, The Night Kitchen Radio, Kinetic City, Comedy-O-Rama and Imagination Theater. Some people have particularly found self-help audio books to be helpful, as vital points can be repeated for the best retention.
If you are interested in catching up on your informative reading, as well as great literature appreciation, then tune into the Sonic Theater. You can catch up on reading while never losing a minute of your time, thanks to XM Satellite Radio.

Lucifer acaba antes
[Fuente]
[Fuente]

57 colleges with 1st-round QB picks since Ohio State’s last
Tumblr media
Dwayne Haskins is about to be the first since Art Schlichter went to the (Baltimore) Colts.
Dwayne Haskins is going to be a first-round pick, probably a high one. When that officially happens on April 25, the QB will end an astonishing streak for Ohio State, one of the best recruiters and most dominant teams in college football.
There have been 86 first-round QBs since 1983, the first year of OSU’s drought. They’ve come from all kinds of programs, but let’s start low on the food chain. (Thanks to the great search engine at Sports Reference for its help.)
FCS teams
UC Davis: Ken O’Brien
Alcorn State: Steve McNair
Delaware: Joe Flacco
North Dakota State: Carson Wentz
Wentz’s North Dakota State would have wailed on the vast majority of FBS teams at the time he was drafted in 2016. Actually, NDSU still would. These are nonetheless programs at a level that currently allows 63 scholarships (max) producing more of these guys than OSU.
FBS non-powers
Colorado State: Kelly Stouffer
San Diego State: Dan McGwire
Miami (Ohio): Ben Roethlisberger
Utah: Alex Smith
Memphis: Paxton Lynch
Wyoming: Josh Allen
The Hurricanes were an out-of-nowhere independent in the early ‘80s. They’d been winning for a few years but were still relatively new on the block. Utah was in the non-BCS Mountain West in 2005.
FBS non-powers that have had two first-round QBs in this span
UCF: Daunte Culpepper, Blake Bortles
Marshall: Chad Pennington, Byron Leftwich
Fresno State: Trent Dilfer, David Carr
Tulane: Patrick Ramsey, J.P. Losman
The non-power ranks have produced two Super Bowl-winning starters (Dilfer and Roethlisberger), a few solid NFL QBs (Pennington, Leftwich), and probably the oddest fact on this list, which is that Tulane had two first-round QBs between 2002 and 2004.
Junior colleges
Blinn College: Cam Newton
Butte Community College: Aaron Rodgers
Reedley College: Josh Allen
I’m exercising my right to double-count these players’ JUCOs to suit my own agenda. I will not count Troy Aikman for Oklahoma, however, because I don’t want to.
Current Power 5 schools that are funny
Illinois: Tony Eason, Jeff George
Purdue: Jim Everett
Vanderbilt: Jay Cutler
Boston College: Matt Ryan
Kansas State: Josh Freeman
We all have those players whose alma maters we forget, even though we know in our hearts they went there. For me, Cutler’s a first-team all “oh yeah, he went there” talent.
Pac-12 schools with serious bulk quantity
Oregon: Chris Miller, Akili Smith, Joey Harrington, Marcus Mariota
UCLA: Troy Aikman, Tommy Maddox, Cade McNown, Josh Rosen
Cal: Kyle Boller, Aaron Rodgers, Jared Goff
USC: Todd Marinovich, Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Mark Sanchez, Sam Darnold
Everyone else
Pitt: Dan Marino
Penn State: Todd Blackledge, Kerry Collins
Stanford: John Elway, Andrew Luck
Iowa: Chuck Long
Michigan: Jim Harbaugh
Miami: Jim Kelly, Vinny Testaverde
Houston: Andre Ware, David Klingler
Notre Dame: Rick Mirer, Brady Quinn
Washington State: Drew Bledsoe, Ryan Leaf
Tennessee: Heath Shuler, Peyton Manning
Virginia Tech: Jim Druckenmiller, Michael Vick
Syracuse: Donovan McNabb
Kentucky: Tim Couch
Florida: Rex Grossman, Tim Tebow
NC State: Philip Rivers
Ole Miss: Eli Manning
Auburn: Jason Campbell, Cam Newton
Texas: Vince Young
LSU: JaMarcus Russell
Georgia: Matt Stafford
Oklahoma: Sam Bradford, Baker Mayfield
