I don’t know if the book “Remember When” was Nora Roberts’ big reveal that she also wrote as J.D. Robb but the 2003 Berkley paperback edition of the book is hilarious.
Tumblr media
It maintains that both authors (Nora Roberts and J.D. Robb) are two different people until you look at the back cover and the authors photo is the same woman twice, just styled differently. And then at the bottom under the photo it says “Nora Roberts and J.D. Robb share a house in Maryland, a husband, and a website…” and I was so caught up in a world where Nora Roberts was in a polyamorous relationship that I forgot J.D. Robb is her pseudonym.

A glittering party full of A-list stars hosted by acclaimed actors Eliza Lane and Brant Fitzhugh at their New York apartment ends in tragedy. Brant Fitzhugh dies by cyanide poisoning and there are plenty of witnesses. Eve Dallas hates a spectacle and knows that this case is going to be a media circus but she and her team are focused on investigating the many suspects ranging from a fired assistant, stalker, and bitter rival. Eve has her job cut out for her on figuring out who would kill in the middle of a crowd and bring them to justice. I’m a little bit behind in this series as the newest Bonded in Death (#60?), will be coming out in February. I’m a huge fan of Eve, Roarke, and the whole cast and crew of the In Death series and have enjoyed seeing how they’ve changed and grown in the three years (and 60 books) that this series has taken place. This story in particular had the glitz and glam of Hollywood and was fun to read. The characters they were investigating were mostly actors so it was hard to tell who was honest and who was lying. Although, I had my eye on the murderer pretty much from the start. Set in a futuristic New York with zip gliders and blimp billboards the author has done a great job of setting the stage for each books mystery making New York both a background character and a setting. Encore In Death spends most of the time with Eve and Peabody, the surrounding characters only being involved in the investigation and even Eve’s husband Roarke taking a step back and not getting really involved in the outcome. He didn’t own any buildings or know any of the suspects except as acquaintances so he kept his distance. I liked how it felt more like an old fashioned mystery with the twists and turns mostly taking place on Eve’s white board and in her head. Sometimes simple is a nice change! If you already read this series even if you haven’t read every book, this is a fun mystery and very easy to read. If you haven’t yet gotten involved in the series then you will miss some of the background histories between characters and the growth that those characters have made over 57 books. I do think that this one could be read as a stand alone because of the more simplistic nature of the investigation and the side characters not being as involved. It may be a good taste test of if you want to go back and start from the beginning! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Click this link to purchase this book!* Encore In Death Copyright 2024 The Reading Chick All Rights Reserved *Amazon Associate- if you purchase this book through the above link I’ll receive a small stipend.

Random in Death by J.D. Robb
Engrossing- 5 star I have been a fan of this series since the first one came out in 1995. You are drawn into the world Eve and Roarke live in and the relationship between their friends. Each book has a fresh mystery to solve and you can not put the book down until you know who is the murderer.  I feel that with each book, more of the supporting characters are getting the spotlight and being able…

No Pressure Writing; Create a Plan of Happiness
image by lookstudio Writers often have a myriad of thoughts come New Year’s Eve. To set a resolution or not? Should you start a new novel? Maybe even start two or three to see which one flows from you best. Or, do you spend more marketing time and dollars to promote a former project? What about social media and public appearances? Should making yourself more visible become a goal? I believe that…

I'm a big fan of many other "romance" writers, often a refuge when I can't take the news. Now I need to read some of Nora Roberts after reading this interview.

Whenever a reading slump sets in, I go back to one of my comfort reads - books I've read dozens of times but still go back to re-read every now and then. Felt like the time to bring this out again. Kind of missed Eve and Roarke.

Anyone have any (preferably not fantasy) romantic suspense books that came out in the last year or two that you recommend? Queer or straight.

This Chick Read: Faithless in Death (In Death #52) by J. D. Robb
How is it that after 52 novels this incomparable author can still give us a fresh mystery? It truly boggles my mind. Faithless in Death brings back all of our favorite characters as they investigate what looks to be a pretty straightforward murder in the West Village. Artist, Ariel Byrd is bludgeoned to death in her studio, leaving behind a couple of wine glasses and a mussed up bedroom. Wealthy,…
