i'm gonna sound like a dummy... but it just dawned on me that like most people probably didn't grow up worrying about the right level of gender non-conformity they were allowed to perform without coming off wrong or being "found out." they probably didn't deny themselves shows or other things that made them feel good and happy because people would find out(and had good reason to believe that, since we were laughed and made fun of for enjoying shows that were either "girl" shows or explored gender). idk just like....they got to use all that mental energy for other things, or not at all and just got to relax.

Ive said this before but swear the biggest skill to learn as an adult is how to resist high-pressure sales tactics. You do NOT have to answer questions with anything other than "Sorry I'm not interested." No matter how nice they are or no matter how many follow up questions they ask or even how agitated they get when you stand your ground. Just keep saying I'm not interested. Don't answer their questions. Don't give them an opening to try to push back on your reasons. Be a fucking brick wall of I'm not interested.
