It dawned on me tonight:

Varric put together the core team of the Veilguard—Neve Gallus, Rook, and Lace Harding.

Then Rook wrangled Davrin, Taash, Bellara, and Emmrich to join the fight for Thedas.

And Lucanis? He’s only here because his grandmother told him to be. Rook didn’t even bother asking him directly—just showed up with, “Yeah, your grandmother said you’ll help.”

For some reason, this cracks me up. No wonder he’s constantly at a loss for words—or understanding.

Weisshaupt, I'm looking at you for some of his classic lines. These may not be totally accurate, but it sums up his baffled panicked vibe while Davrin is calm and collected.

“Where are we going?” “A bloody dragon?!” “How do I kill a cloud face?”

This guy is an exceptional assassin possessed by a spirit of determination (don’t even get me started on that), tagging along with these somewhat capable companions because, well… his grandmother said so.
