Know about the celebrities who supported farmer’s protest
India’s ongoing farmers’ protest in the election year 2024 unfolds conflicts between the central government and protesting farmers. This freshens the memories of a year-long protest of 2020-21 when farmers of Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh were protesting against the three controversial farm laws. The main demands are to reject smart meters, waive debt, legal procurement assurances, and set a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for commodities based on the Swaminathan formula. The results of the protests remain blurry as the central government is in the process of establishing communication with the farmers’ community. The last protest was backed by many celebrities. Read on to learn about celebrities who supported the farmers' protest and how they extended their support.
Celebrities who supported farmer's protest
Celebrities from various fields including activists, singers, actors, and global stars backed the last farmer’s protest. Some supported farmers by visiting the protest while others showed virtual support leading to social media trends.
Rihanna
Global star, singer, and actor Rihanna extended her support to the farmers as she shared a CNN news report on X. Her tweet along with the report read, “Why aren’t we talking about this?”. Amid this, there was a rise in controversies, and the internet divided into two groups, one appreciating Rihanna for extending support while some trolled her for the same.
Greta Thunberg
Another controversy came up after climate activist Greta Thunberg shared a toolkit related to the farmer’s protest. The Delhi Police's cybercrime unit filed a formal complaint (FIR) based on sedition, criminal conspiracy, and inciting hatred, over the post and its accompanying tools.
Amanda Cerny
Amanda Cerny, a US-based vlogger also extended virtual support to the protests resulting in massive trolling. Her Instagram post read, “does not have to be Indian, Punjabi or South Asian to understand the issue. All one has to do is care about humanity”.
Lilly Singh
One of the prominent content creators and Youtuber Lilly Singh, known for her sarcastic and humorous content walked the Grammys red carpet with a mask that read I stand with farmers’. Furthermore, she posted on X, “I know red carpet/award show pictures always get the most coverage, so here you go media. Feel free to run with it Raised fist #IStandWithFarmers #GRAMMYs.”
To sum up

India’s Reform Laws
Hi- I’d really hope to raise awareness on what’s going on in India right now and has been since September 2020. The prime minister of India: Narendra Modi has passed 3 new reform laws which make it extremely difficult for farmers; the backbone of india’s economy; to make money. Essentially private companies now buy directly from farmers rather than the government having a set price on crops grown by kisaans (farmers) all year long. Thus leading to a significantly lower income. Overtime many farmers will go into extreme debts and would be incapable of supporting their families. 65 farmers in punjab have already taken their lives since this bill was passed. And as of March 2021 there has been a total of 248 deaths.
There have been peaceful protests in delhi where many Sikhs and Punjabis (as well as farmers from other states and religions including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharastra and Haryana.) are fighting for their livelihood back, however the police brutality and lack of support from the government that they are currently facing is the stark opposite of what you would expect from a democratic government. Protesters are being shot with water cannons and sprayed with tear gases, as well as Delhi police making it inhumanely difficult for the protesters.
All because in the name of democracy we are protesting against bills that make it borderline impossible for them to live.
3/4 of punjabs population are farmers, my own immediate and distant family are currently out protesting and are being actively impacted by this.
you can donate to khalsa aid right here! they are providing protesters with food and water!
you can purchase from kisaani.co! all their profits are sent directly to the kisaans in need.
I apologize for such a long post but not enough people are talking about this and I really hope that if you have the means you donate or share the links so it reaches someone who might be able to. Thank you :)
Our hashtag is: #IStandWithFarmers

you know, regarding the crap happening in my country, india - what shocks me the most is the silence. people who were protesting against tr*mp a couple of months ago, people who were yelling ‘democracy is back!’ when biden won, people who protested against the hathras rape case, etc. are silent now.
people, and even my friends, who call themselves activists, are silent. they say that they’re too afraid of what people are gonna say.
but you know what? there are people right now, in delhi, who doubt whether they’re gonna make it through the night, and yet i don’t see an ounce of fear on their faces.
there are people DYING, people being CRUSHED under the boots of a fascist government - a government arresting activists, protestors, blocking internet from the CAPITAL OF THE COUNTRY, violating not one BUT SEVEN HUMAN RIGHTS, KILLING innocent people and so much more shit... but y’all are silent. y’all are afraid of what people are gonna say, and that is so SELFISH. to care more about your reputation than about other people’s lives, their rights.
and don’t even get me started on the so called “activist” celebrities in our country. there is something seriously wrong with y’all.
not much is being asked of you - spreading awareness is enough. there are people that i know, my friends, neighbors - that are unaware of what is happening in OUR country, and what do you expect, really, considering the media blockade, and the arrest of anyone who dares utter a word against our government. this is fascism, PURE FASCISM, and in the country that was said to be the strongest democracy in the world.
shameful.

One of the characteristics of a democracy is that you can protest. That is currently not the case in India.
Young, old, men and women are protesting against a few laws that were created for the farmers.
The government is trying to push back the protestors by shooting water at them. At one point India had a water shortage. Water is also getting wasted. They had closed the road and ended up throwing tear gas at protestors.
This country must represent a democracy, but look what happens here. THOUSANDS of people are disagreeing with something, listen to THEIR voices and their suffering. Stopping them with water, road blocks or throwing tear gas is NOT THE WAY!

“A protestor after being brutally beaten during the clashes between the protestors and Delhi police at Nangloi. But this did not affect his strong will and the wish to fight for his rights. He was still shouting slogans even though he was bleeding heavily and his turban fell off”
A warrior with no fear! Look at his spirit! Waheguru🙏🏽
