… and there was Amyl and The Sniffers, Sziget Festival, Budapest, August 14, 2023.
Although Sziget Festival is gone for this year a good number of performers have been on my mind since then. Sziget prefers to call itself the Island of Freedom which for me means to be free and open to new people, music, ideas, personal histories and their actual performance on stage. Amyl and The Sniffers were just great. And funny. Sometime bizarrely grotesque while absolutely real and present they threw a thunderous party leaving their audience with shaking legs and dizzy heads. Shaking legs just like after good sex.
Enjoy:

Black Whale, 12.5x12"
I tried quilting for the first time! It was super fun and I learned a lot. It's nowhere near perfect but I'm really proud of it!

when I drew this comic 3 years ago I had NO idea how far it would reach. I'm happy to finally share a corrected version with proper abbreviations, and even MORE state names of indigenous origin ♥️
however, the goal of this comic was to inspire people to do your OWN research on indigenous history. To question everything we have been taught, and everything that has been pointedly left out. This erasure, this “forgetting”, of history is not just of the past… it is happening now. - Across so-called Canada, the US, and US-occupied islands, native women are victims of murder at 10-12x the rate of non-native people, and are the most likely to go missing without being searched for by the law. - Native reservations have the highest rates of poverty in the US, with over HALF of tribal homes with no access to clean water (with more joining this list by the year) - Native people are 6-10x more likely to be unhoused than the rest of the population, and native teens suffer suicide rates higher than any other demographic. This list of modern day genocide goes on (thank you for compiling @theindigenousanarchist <3) and yet take a look at those environmental stats!
Native people manage to do SO much for the planet as a whole - thanklessly - and with all this stacked against them. Don't even get me started on kin fighting in south america. Could you imagine if there was help? #landback is resistance to genocide, and it is the key to saving our warming earth.
So look into it and the other hashtags, cuz a cartoon goose ain't a substitute for a proper education. Love to my grandparents who always kept a map of tribal territories of turtle island on their wall, to speaking on our Tsalagi & Saponi heritage. Love & solidarity forever, happy research, and happy #indigenouspeoplesday
LANDBACK.ORG
(Also, if you care to support the artist, I'm publishing a book ! and writing another - a fantastical afroindigenous graphic novel - that I post exclusively about with tons of other art on my patreon.)

still so sad about this band's end. i vividly remember the joy i felt when i discovered them. they had the perfect '20s sound: early strokes' garage (with even similar lead vocals and chords...) meets dinosaur jr.'s alt rock influence, make it lofi-er and fuzzier. a classic 90s-early 00s music revival, typical of our time, so endearing and probably mark fisher's worst nightmare!

It’s a shame Zoro wasn’t in Whole Cake Island purely for the missed gag opportunity of him walking into the Seducing Woods - the woods designed so specifically to disorient and get lost anyone who enters - and walking straight out the other side in 5 minutes

trying to describe black sails to people is my personal sisyphean task. “it’s a pirate show” bad. “it’s functionally a prequel to treasure island but also it’s not at all” bad again, and also confusing. “it’s about pirates trying to destroy western civilization” mostly only true of the second half of the show and also doesn’t fully capture what i love about it. “it’s a pirate show about the power of stories, how civilization uses shame to keep people in line and turns them into monsters, and the power of queer rage. it’s got some of the best acting, writing, everything of any show i’ve ever seen.” the most accurate, but way too long and makes me sound pretentious and insane. send help i just want to talk about my favorite show.
