I present to you - my storyboards for 'The Four-Angled Whale', the origin of the Irish harp, according to Irish mythology! These storyboards are for an envisioned short film or animation.
Based on one of my favourite Irish myths, whereby Cana Cluadhmor invents the Irish harp based on a beached whale.
This is set in pagan Ireland, in a pre-Christian era.
Welcome my friends to the pinnacle of spooky season!
It has been a beautiful month, and I hope I have given you a few frights for thought. Halloween is named for All Hallow’s Eve, the night before All Saint’s Day in the Catholic calendar, but its origins are far older than Catholicism. While around the world there are any number of religious and folk beliefs about the time when the veil between the worlds is thin and the living and dead can walk together Halloween is derived from Samhain, which started a dusk tonight and ends at dusk tomorrow.
The ancient Celts saw it as a harvest festival, a doorway into the dark part of the year, and a time to honor the dead. Though all Celts celebrated it in some form, the festival is most specifically associated with the Irish. So to end this month I have chosen a short film, an Irish ghost story featuring Orson Welles. The story is no mystery, any one familiar with the various Phantom Hitchhiker legends will know what is happening long before the main character does, nor is it ever frightening, but there is an exquisite melancholy and loneliness to the light, the sets, the music, and the gentle performances that makes one feel that this is what it perhaps might really be like to meet a ghost.
I want to thank you all for spending my deeply beloved October with me.
VIVA is a short film set in the near future when the government has introduced a scheme that encourages people over 70 years old to 'opt out'. They do this to help with a climate collapse and aging population with no social safety net.
The film follows a couple on the eve of their 'departure' as they gather those closest for one last meal. This leads to frank discussions about life, age, care, the environment and an offensive card game.
