Movement 23-02-24
(Turn Volume UP)
I added a variety of sounds to the animation, ranging from my own recordings of water to recordings of wildlife online (Irish wildlife sounds). I layered them in Premiere Pro, building up a soundscape that suited the visuals. Doing this has created an atmosphere for the animation that makes it more immersive and cohesive.

The Fomorian Giants
Tumblr media

Merrows
The Merrow is the Irish equivalent of the mermaid and mermen of other traditions.  These beings are said to appear as human from the waist up but have the body of a fish from the waist down. Male merrows have been described as exceptionally ugly and scaled, with pig-like features and long, pointed teeth. Female merrows however are said to be extremely beautiful and promiscuous.
Merrow-maidens are reputed to lure young men to follow them beneath the waves where afterwards they live in an enchanted state. The merrow has soft white webs between her fingers, she is often seen with a comb parting her long green hair on either side.  Merrow music can be heard coming from beneath the waves.
Merrows have special clothing to enable them to travel through ocean currents. If a man can capture her cap or cloak, he will have power over her, as she cannot return to the sea until they are retrieved. Hiding the cloak in the thatches of his house, a fisherman may persuade the merrow to marry them.
Eventually the merrow will recover the cloak, and find her urge to return to the sea so strong that she leaves her human husband and children behind.
