New Year Gift Ideas
Johnnie Walker Blue Label Blended Scotch Whisky
Johnnie Walker Blue Label is one of the rarest blended whiskies available in the world. A honey-colored whisky with a spicy, smoky fragrance.
The first sip is surprisingly sweet and honeyed, then the smoke gently creeps in like fog at dawn, softly surrounding the edges of the tongue giving way to a luxuriously long, warming, smoky finish. Best served neat, along with an ice-cold water to enhance its powerful character.
Jameson 18 Year Irish Whiskey
Jameson 18 Years was made to make any occasion memorable. This is an 18-year-old whiskey, the kind of thing you only pull out for best mates. And if you want to impress them just throw this line into conversation: “It’s a unique blend of three signature distillates matured in the finest oak for almost two decades and is given a final marrying period of at least 6 months in a fresh American oak barrel, adding a unique complexity and elegance’. Ok, that is a mouthful. Just let the bottle do the talking.
Its long lingering finish carries the theme of the wood, spice and toffee right through to the end.
Macallan 12 Year Scotch Whisky
Macallan 12 Year is a classic sherry-cask-matured Speyside that makes a very good gateway into the single malt category. Flavors of fruitcake, warmed bread, soaked raisins, and clove lead to a warm, medium to long finish noted with pear, cigar and peppery clove notes.
Deliciously smooth, with rich dried fruits and sherry, balanced with woodsmoke and spice. Described by F Paul Pacult, the renowned international whisky writer, in his book Kindred Spirits as 'simply the best 12-Year-Old single malt around'.
Blanton’s Single Barrel Bourbon
Blanton’s Single Barrel Bourbon, the world’s first single barrel bourbon whiskey produced at the Buffalo Trace Distillery at Frankfort, Kentucky, and launched in 1984 by master distiller Elmer T. Lee. The presentation, taste and finish are all excellent. A staple bourbon for any collector or home bar enjoyer.
A deep, satisfying nose of nutmeg and spices. Powerful dry vanilla notes in harmony with hints of honey amid strong caramel and corn. A medium finish composed of returning corn and nutmeg flavors. Best served neat or on the rocks. Bottled at 46.5% ABV/VOL (90 Proof).
Sheridan's Coffee Layered Liqueur
Sheridan's Coffee Layered Liqueur is consisting of two bottles that resemble a terrific Irish coffee when layered in the correct proportions. One section is filled with a black liqueur, consisting of coffee and whiskey flavors, while the other is filled with a white liqueur of milk white chocolate. The ausschank blend in these ingredients with one unique pouring spout in the bag.
A beautiful blend of dark coffee chocolate liqueur with a silky-smooth vanilla cream liquor. Tilt the glass to allow the dark chocolate liquor to layer below the cream and it will resemble the best Irish coffee you’ve ever had. It contains 15.5 per cent alcohol by volume. A must try!
Patron Xo Cafe
Patron XO Cafe is a dry and low-proof coffee liqueur. It’s a combination of Patron silver and the essence fine coffee. This liqueur is a blend of vanilla, chocolate, and coffee aromas. It also has a light tequila taste and chocolate notes. It is recommended to Store it in the freezer. Avoid repeated re-freezing
It is excellent for sipping after dinner, as a premium cocktail ingredient, or as a unique and delicious dessert topping. It is delightful in Martinis or on vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
Johnnie Walker Red Label Blended Scotch Whisky
Johnnie Walker Red Label is crackling with spice and bursting with vibrant, smoky flavors. It’s a blend that combines light whiskies from Scotland’s East Coast and more peaty whiskies from the West, creating an extraordinary depth of flavor. Johnnie Walker Red Label tumbles onto your palate with the freshness of spray from a breaking wave, bringing the unmistakable zing of aromatic spices - cinnamon and pepper - fizzing over the center of your tongue. There’s a suggestion of fruity sweetness, like fresh apple or pear and a mellow bed of vanilla, before the Johnnie Walker signature of a long, lingering, smoky finish.
Enjoy Johnnie Walker Red Label in any way you like - on its own, over ice, or long with your favorite mixer. We recommend Johnnie Ginger.
Hendrick’s Gin
Hendrick’s Gin is created via an absurdly inefficient, yet quite glorious process. In essence, to make one gin, we first create two. One on an old-fashioned pot still, yielding a rich and intricate spirit. The other on a long-necked Carter Head, producing a delicate, more refined spirit. Each still is infused with an unusual symphony of 11 botanicals. The gins from the two stills are then married together and graced with refreshing infusions of Rose and Cucumber.
This odd method of making gin enables Hendrick’s to taste light, yet intriguingly complex. The result is a wondrously refreshing gin with a delightfully floral aroma, elevating any cocktail and all occasions.
Escape the conventional, and embrace the delectable. Please enjoy the unusual responsibly.

World Whisky Day
Mix up a whisky sour, or pour your favorite whisky over some ice and enjoy. Gather some friends together to try out different brands and cocktails.
If you’re friends with Jack and Jim and spend your weekends with Jameson and Johnnie, then World Whisky Day is going to hold a special significance for you.
Whisky is one of the iconic drinks of true lovers of alcohol and is the foundation of some of the most wonderful drinks known to man. But honestly, who needs an excuse to imbibe in these wonderful libations? If you need one, World Whisky Day is it!
History of World Whisky Day
One of the most common forms of whisky that is sought after is Irish Whisky, and perhaps appropriately so. The origins of the word Whisky can be found in the Gaelic Language.
Uisce Beatha was the original name of whiskey in classical Gaelic, which ultimately became Uisce Beatha in Ireland and Uisge Beatha in Scotland. Both of these names mean “Water of Life” and tells us just how important and vital this particular distillation was to the Gaels.
It was later shortened to just Uisce/Uisge, and then anglicized to Whisky. So now you know, when someone is concerned about your whisky consumption, you can just tell them you’re drinking the water of life!
So what, exactly, is whisky? Whisky is what happens when you create take rich flavorful grains and ferment them into a mash, and then take that mash and distil it down into a pure delicious spirit.
Distillation takes place in a still, a device whose whole purpose is the purification of the alcohol from the fermented mash. One of the most important secrets of distillation is that it must take place in a copper (Or copper lined) still, as the copper removes the sulfur from the drink that would make this otherwise diving beverage decidedly unpleasant to drink.
Astonishing facts about whisky
You may enjoy a delicious glass of whisky, but did you know the following…?
Let’s start with a worrying fact, which is that whisky could have been banned. If it was not because of a medical loophole in the Prohibition period, this drink would have been banned altogether. However, because there was a law that enabled doctors to prescribe whisky as medicine, it survived.
The word whisky actually means ‘water of life.’ this is because it comes from a Gaelic word that reads ‘uisge beathe.’
There are some expensive bottles of whisky around the world. However, the most expensive is the Macallan ‘M’ whisky. This Lalique decanter of whisky was auctioned in Hong Kong for £393,109. The luxury decanter features six liters of whisky, which was drawn from casks made of Spanish oak sherry, dating from the ‘40s until the ‘90s.
The oldest whisky is more than 150-years-old. The Guinness World Record for the World’s Oldest Whisky currently goes to a bottle of 400ml Glenavon Special Liqueur Whisky. It was owned by a family from Ireland. However, it fetched an incredible £14,850 at auction when it was sold to Bonhams in London. It is believed to have been packaged sometime between the years of 1851 and 1858.
The spelling of whisky is interesting. You may have seen it written as whiskey. The version without the ‘e’ is used for Canadian and Scottish whisky. However, for other types of the drink, you opt for the whiskey spelling.
Last but not least, whisky starts life as a beer! This is because it is made with wort, which is a form of beer that gets distilled. In fact, the wort is created using all of the ingredients that yare enjoyed in a pint of delicious beer, i.e. malts, yeast, and water.
How To Celebrate World Whisky Day
World Whisky Day reminds us that there is an incredibly broad range of whisky out there to try, and its unlikely that we’ve managed to try all of it. Whisky can be made from barley, corn, rye, and wheat, just to name a few, and those grains are often mixed in different proportions before fermenting and distilling.
The results are then aged in casks, with both the cask and the time inside changing the flavor. Needless to say, you may need more than one day to sample every kind available to you! World Whisky Day is a great opportunity for you to expand your palette, and share your experiences with your friends.

Whisky!
Hey who wants to talk about whisky (or whiskey, depending on who you ask)??
Time for an infodump. Of stuff that I did not know and now know through Life Experience.
There’s a big spirits resurgence going on in the US and other places at the mo, following along after the craft-beer resurgence etc. Whisky in particular has gotten super popular. But it can seem intimidating! It kind of...can be? Let me run through the basics.
“Whisky” is sort of an umbrella term. There’s almost no such thing as just plain whisky unless it’s something Granddad is distilling in the backyard. When we talk about whisky we’re like 90% of the time talking about one of the Big Three: rye, Scotch or bourbon.
Yep. Bourbon is whisky, rye is whisky, Scotch is whisky. They’re different kinds of whisky. All bourbon is whisky but not all whisky is bourbon. There are other kinds - Irish whiskey, blended whiskey, Canadian whisky, single malt whisky, etc, but those three are the bulk of it.
Whisky is made by fermenting grains and then aging in casks. Whisky doesn’t continue to age in the bottle, so all the aging is done in the casks. The different kinds of whisky arise from different mixtures of grains (called the mash bill). The grains used are corn, barley, rye and wheat (not all whiskys contain wheat, those that do are often referred to as “wheated” whiskys). You can also find stuff like spelt and pumpernickel in there.
Bourbon is majority corn. Rye is majority rye. Scotch is majority barley.
There are other rules. Bourbon by definition must be made in the US (it’s the only spirit that’s solely American-made). There’s a misconception that it has to be made in Kentucky but that’s not the case. It must be aged in charred white oak barrels. Scotch can ONLY be made in Scotland. You can use the same mash bill and make it in Arkansas but you can’t call it Scotch, it has to be called a malt whisky.
I love all three. I honestly didn’t think I liked whisky until I had rye whisky. It’s the most popular for cocktails (a Manhattan, for example, is traditionally made with rye) because it has a bolder, spicier and more forward flavor. Bourbon is usually drunk neat or on the rocks (although the Old Fashioned is made with bourbon) and it sweeter. Scotch is almost never used in cocktails with a few exceptions and is almost always just sipped. Some Scotches (those made on the island of Islay, mostly) are very smoky (referred to as being “peaty”) which I loooove but not everyone does.
There is no incorrect way to drink whisky straight. If you’re in a good bar, and you order whisky or a flight of whisky tastings, they’ll bring you ice and water. Drinking whisky neat (= no water or ice) is the best way to get a sense of the flavor, but a LOT of whisky are greatly opened up by a small dash of water. I like bourbon on the rocks (having some now, as I write this, in fact) but if it’s a new one I’m trying, I’ll try it neat first. Tasting and enjoying whisky is, like anything else, an acquired taste. The more you try it, the more appreciation you’ll have for the differences.
The big trend in whisky right now is interesting finishes. That’s when the whisky is aged in the charred barrels, then moved to a different barrel that previously contained something else and aged further, to impart flavor. Lagavulin (one of the Islay distilleries) put out a Scotch aged in Guinness barrels and it was BONKERS good. One of my favorite whiskys right now is Barrel Distillery’s Seagrass, a rye finished in apricot brandy barrels and then madeira casks. Angel’s Envy makes a rye finished in rum barrels that’s crazy good.
Anyway. LMK if you have questions! Enjoy some quality spirits! Drink responsibly!

I’ve wanted to brighten up peoples day and to ask what’s your MC / OC favorite dish/snack?
Thanks 😍
Just seeing your name in my asks brightens my day hon! Thank you for the ask @peonierose
I’m on a sort of a hiatus but I loved answering this.
Here goes:
Drake x Lexie O'Brien
They’re both great eaters but Lexie will taste anything (one of her favorites are her abuelita’s escamoles which are basically ants’ eggs) whereas Drake has his limits. They’re both very good cooks but Drake is one of those people who cleans as he works, and when Lexie cooks the kitchen resembles a war zone.
Lexie’s comfort food: Flamingo hot Cheetos, Mexican Elotes (extra spicy, extra mayo), and tacos de carnitas with salsa verde and chicharron (though no one makes them as her Abuelita did). After she met Drake, his chocolate cake became her favorite sweet treat. For date night, she always asks Drake to cook his kleftiko (roasted lamb with potatoes). She’s crazy about it.
Favorite beverage: Guinness beer and a good glass of Tullamore Dew 12 years. (her grandpa from her father's side taught her to appreciate both)
I know a lot of people see Drake as Texan but I see him more as a Mediterranean guy with an American parent (one he’s not even close to), so I canon he loves greek and Italian food the most. When Bianca left he was forced to learn how to cook for him and his little sister, Bastien was more of a take-out kind of parent. His specialties include gyros, kleftika, keftedes (Savvie’s favorite), and the chocolate cake he learned how to make from scratch for Savannah’s 11th birthday.
Now that he’s married, he’s crazy about Mexican food. Even if he has to spend hours cleaning the kitchen after Hurricane Alexis cooked. His favorite are her Enchiladas de pollo con mole, and the Elotes she prepares with her abuelita’s recipe.
Drake's favorite drink: a cold IPA or a Macallan's 18 Year Sherry Oak Cask (but he conforms with a 12-year).
Liam is tired of them bickering about which whiskey is better: the Scotch or the Irish (but he agrees with Drake, nothing better than a well-aged Macallan)
I had a lot of fun answering this! Thank you ;-)

Pelican Brewmaster, Darron Welch speaks highly of the newly released Irish Whiskey – “I just love how robust and rich the Clonakilty Father of All Tsunamis Stout Finish came out. The depth of flavor and rounded finish make for an incredibly satisfying dram!”

Introducing Jameson Crested X Eight Degrees Brewing
Irish Distillers, makers of some of the world’s most enjoyed whiskeys, has joined forces with Eight Degrees Brewing for a unique edition of the beloved Jameson Crested.
Launching this month, Jameson Crested Finished in Black Ball Metric Stout Barrels is the next step in an exciting collaboration between Irish Distillers and its Co. Cork neighbour, Eight Degrees, who last year celebrated eight years of adventurous craft beer brewing by releasing a uniquely dark Black Ball Metric Stout finished in Jameson barrels as the last iteration of their Rack ‘em Up Series.
Always seeking an opportunity to innovate, Jameson returned the compliment by selecting a special whiskey to mature in the stout soaked barrels. The result is a stunning evolution of Jameson Crested, with a rich stout influence married with a luscious creamy texture and lingering finish of pot still spices and malt.
“We were delighted when the opportunity arose to create a truly special whiskey,” explains Irish Distillers’ Blender Dave McCabe.
“When we were selecting a whiskey to mature in these barrels, Jameson Crested became the obvious choice. It’s higher pot still component and sherry cask inclusion allowed the whiskey to meet the impact of the stout head on, creating a balanced reaction.
“We filled the casks in November last year and carefully monitored the whiskey’s progress. After about four months of ageing we felt it was just right. The stout influence is prevalent in the taste, complementing the whiskey beautifully.
“It’s a truly unique liquid, perfect when enjoyed neat, paired with a craft stout, or as part of a spiced cocktail,” adds McCabe.
Derek Neville, Head Cellarman at Eight Degrees Brewing adds: “It was an honour to be given the opportunity to create our special 8th anniversary stout using barrels from Jameson, the world’s most popular Irish whiskey. Today we are delighted to have made our mark on Jameson Crested, an icon of Irish whiskey, through the release of this special edition.”
A limited-edition release of fewer than 10,000 bottles globally, Jameson Crested Finished in Black Ball Metric Stout Barrels will launch in Jameson’s brand home outlets at Bow Street, Dublin, and Midleton, Cork, this month, and will be available through Jameson’s online shop at jamesonwhiskey.com, priced at €45 (70cl)[1]. It will also be available to air passengers vising the new Dublin Airport shop in Terminal 2 from mid-October.

International Whisk(e)y Day
Whiskey has a long and venerable history as one of the most recognizable forms of distilled spirits in the world.
The name for Whisk(e)y comes from the Gaelic language, where it was referred to as Uisce na Beatha, which means ‘The Water of Life’. It wasn’t long before the name was shortened to Uisce (Merely “Water”) and then the pronunciation slowly changed over time from Ish-Key, to Whiskey. And that pronunciation has remained ever since.
Now, it’s time to enjoy, share, and celebrate this day that is all about Whiskey!
History of International Whisk(e)y Day
The history of International Whiskey day is intrinsically tied to the history of the beverage, so that seems like a good place to begin. Whiskey is the result of a distillation process, a chemical/alchemical process known as far back in history as Babylon. While no one quite knows if they created a beverage quite as wonderful as modern-day whiskey, historians have confirmed that the process was available to them.
All whiskey starts with a ‘mash’, which is a mixture of grain and water that is slowly heated in order to break down the starch into sugars. The kind of grain that the maker uses will determine what kind of whiskey comes out as the end result. The result of this process is then known as wort and is just the beginning of this amazing drink’s life journey.
Aging in a barrel is usually part of the process as well. But the amount of time spent in the aging process is certainly worth it!
Here’s a quick rundown on the different types of grains that result in all of these unique types of whiskey beverages:
Bourbon starts from a mash that is 51% or more corn base, though it becomes a Corn Whiskey once it reaches 81%.
Malt whiskey is made from 51% malted barley.
Rye is 51% plain rye.
Wheat Whiskey, as one might suspect, is made from Wheat.
So where did International Whiskey Day come from? Well, it was first announced in 2008, and subsequently celebrated in 2009 at the Whiskey Festival in the Northern Netherlands.
This was all done in honor of a whiskey (and beer) connoisseur and writer, Michael Jackson. (No, not the King of Pop.) He was a man who was well known for his writings on Whiskey and who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. His whiskey-loving friends wanted to not only celebrate his love for whiskey but also help find a cure for this difficult disease. Since Michael’s birthday was March 27, the date is a nod to him.
So, the purpose of Whiskey Day isn’t just the raising of awareness of whiskey and its charms, although that is certainly a great reason. The purpose is also to spread awareness for Parkinson’s, a disease that whiskey aficionado, Michael Jackon, suffered from in his later years.
How to Celebrate International Whisk(e)y Day
The most obvious and practical way to celebrate this holiday is to either imbibe a favorite variety of Whiskey or to try a new one! Check out these ideas for celebrating Whisk(e)y Day:
Try a New Kind of Whiskey
Even better, get together with friends and introduce each other to your favorites, and maybe check out a few new vintages or styles. Look into these, for example:
Irish Whiskey. Smooth, made from a mash of malt, caramel-colored, and must be distilled for at least 3 years in a wooden cask.
Scotch Whisky (also called ‘Scotch’). Made with either malt or grain, must age in an oak barrel for 3 years.
Canadian Whisky. Light and smooth with a high amount of corn, must be aged in a barrel for 3 years.
Bourbon Whiskey. Made from at least 51% corn, aged in a new oak barrel, and must be 80 proof or higher. (Tennessee Whiskey is a sub-type of bourbon with special filtering step.)
Japanese Whisky. Methods and taste are similar to Scotch, often used with mixed drinks.
Learn How to Spell Whisk(e)y
It seems strange, but there are actually two correct ways to spell this word, depending on the context. Originally, Irish Whiskey included the ‘e’ and Scottish Whisky did not. Ultimately that carried out so that Americans adopted the ‘e’ version for their whiskey, but Canadians and Japanese Whisky makers did not! Thus, the correct, inclusive spelling is: International Whisk(e)y Day!
Grab a Whiskey at a Pub or Bar
Many different bars and pubs have gotten on board with celebrating Whisk(e)y Day. They’ll often provide drink specials, food specials, and possibly even opportunities to win door prizes–such as a special bottle of whiskey. So grab a friend and head over to the pub for a drink of whiskey (or beer will do just as well)!
Introduce Whisk(e)y to a Newbie
What could be more fun than opening up the world (and a bottle) to someone who has never tried whiskey before? Although it might be hard to imagine, many people are out there who are new to whiskey and have no idea how to enjoy it. Grab one of them, open a bottle, and reveal to them the myriad of reasons why Whisk(e)y Day is absolutely worth celebrating!
Donate to a Parkinson’s Disease Charity
Don’t forget to make a donation to your favorite Parkinson’s charity while you’re at it! Team Fox, the charity created by actor Michael J. Fox, who lives with early-onset Parkinson’s Disease, often teams up with various Whiskey Day folks to build momentum for celebrating the day and raising funds for the charity.
While you’re at it, be sure that everyone gets home safely. The best way to celebrate International Whiskey Day is drinking responsibly, and making sure everyone can talk about it again tomorrow!
