Terminado o corpo do gorro, comecei a pensar em como ia fazer as orelheiras. Tinha arranjado em Portugal um pdf do livro "Andean Folk Knitting", da Cynthia Gravelle LeCount, que foi aonde fui buscar a inspiração.

With the body of the hat done, I began to think about how I was going to do the earflaps. While I was in Portugal, I'd found a pdf of "Andean Folk Knitting" by Cynthia Gravelle LeCount, which is where I got my inspiration from.

Optei por este estilo, feito todo em manta de gato. Faz-se uma tira com modulação a carreiras incompletas no meio para dobrar ou curvar e depois remalha-se a borda de dentro e vai-se tricotanto e aproximando os lados ao meio com minguados.

I opted for this style, all done in garter stitch. You do a strip with short row shaping in the middle so it bends or curves at that point, then you pick up stitches along the inner edge and you just knit while gradually drawing the sides closer with decreases.

Gostei muito do resultado e fiz logo o par, mas ficaram demasiado grandes infelizmente. Então agora estou a experimentar com uma orelheira um pouco diferente.

I really liked the result and made the pair right away, but they came out too big unfortunately. So now I'm trying out a slightly different earflap.

Já tentei costurar a orelheira nova ao gorro e parece que a curva que faz em cima vai ter de ser corrigida porque deforma o gorro. Também fiz um crochezinho na ourela para não enrolar e coloquei uma borla na ponta do gorro, mas não sei se vou deixar assim, aparar um pouco mais ou fazer outra com menos fio.

I've tried sewing the new earflap on to the hat and it's looking like I'm going to have to correct the curve it makes at the top because it warps the hat. I've also added a little crochet border to the the brim so it doesn't curl and a tassel to the point of the hat, but I don't know if I'm leaving it as it is, trimming it a little shorter or making another with less yarn.

And that's about where I'm up to at the moment!
