Do you enjoy underfell? I thought you disliked aus /genq
i don't dislike the concept of AUs itself, I'm just not a fan of like... the subculture that spawned around them in the UT fandom specifically and how it eventually took over almost all canon content (especially when it limits itself to the bros)
i like aus visually! i am an artist at heart after all. it's just that, if I'm going to care about them as stories and not just fun design ideas, my bar is uhh almost impossibly high the further you move from canon lolol.
#uf being one of those! the story is centered on certain characters (mainly asgore) behaving very ooc#so as a stickler for canon I don't have much interest in it#but there is a very clear visual idea and motif in the redesigns that ties every character together very efficiently#and also fucks like a rabid rhino#so i can appreciate its visual/aesthetic aspects instead#i mean you can't understate the impact that good *artists* specifically had on the proliferation of aus back in the day#good writing is almost inseverable from good characterization because dialogues and characterization ARE an integral part#of what makes writing good. while good art (as much as it too is tied to its own conventions) is free-er from the bounds of accuracy#as was as being easier & faster to consume. writing has to be read first. you can just look at a piece of art and go ''wow that looks sick''#without thinking about logical details/accuracy#you can show a pic of sans to an artist who's never touched the game and they might draw you the most gorgeous piece of art you've ever seen#it's significantly harder to do for writing#swap aus are a fun design challenge to see how you'd incorporate different aspects of some characters visual signatures into another#it's a game of translation of sorts. but if you want to treat it like a story well... the matter becomes a lot more complicated#answered asks#au tag

Warwick's storyline for me is the equivalent of that John Mulaney Horse Hospital joke.
There's so much strife and geopolitical upheval... and there's a werewolf running around in Zaun?!?!?!
Ambessa could be making a funeral speech for the dead Councilors and there's howling in the background. Everyone pauses, but Ambessa has to continue no matter how strange that was.
Instead of just gang graffiti littering the walls, there's claw marks pointedly tearing at chembarons' symbols, especially Silco's.
Everyone's just alert cuz there's a werewolf in Zaun and no one (except Singed) is sure how he got there or what he's doing. There's a million and one things going on at the moment... but there's a werewolf in Zaun???????
#arcane#arcane meta#vander arcane#warwick arcane#whenever i write analysis i have to remind myself “oh yh warwick's there”#cuz it's such a THING#it's its own thing for pnz's storyline#and it's pretty funky to integrate#i like the challenge but boy howdy can it be weird

literally im not even close to kidding one of the best things you can do if you encounter a baby bigot in the wild (a child or young adult who had clearly been indoctrinated by hatred and fear (specifically evangelical flavor)), is to be kind to them. there is nothing that cracks that worldview faster. if you listen to people who escaped that life and ask them how they got out, a lot of times it’s because when they were a teenager or young adult, they met people from outside their immediate community and realized they were just regular human beings.
like don’t put yourself in danger or anything but really truly really it does make a long term difference a lot of the time if you’re nice. it’s just that you don’t get to see it because the unlearning takes years.
#now granted. this doesn’t work 100% of the time#cults of hatred are incredibly difficult to escape#but it’s still the most effective thing you can do as a stranger who will probably not have a chance to debate them into improving#side note that also doesn’t work anyway. any time you challenge part of someone that they consider integral to themselves they entrench#and get defensive. which is annoying because all you want to do is tell them the objective reasons why they’re wrong#but on an individual-to-individual basis talking about it literally doesn’t work

gnome culture emphasizes playfulness and a good sense of humor partly because gnomes are physically small and vulnerable and tend to settle in wild places with a lot of hazards and if they had to take every completely real threat to their safety seriously while also Taking Them Seriously they'd just be paralyzed by fear
#take it easy but take it#good and healthy to be afraid sometimes but you gotta learn to laugh about it too or you're gonna implode#turning this over in my mind with the half-cooked concept I was thinking about the other day#about a gnomish (philosophy? saying? entire parable?) about how the More you live the closer you are to death#not as a cautionary tale against doing stuff but as a cautionary tale against avoiding danger at any cost#the world is too full of risk for a gnome to live like that! if you're not taking any risks you're not really living!!#you learn riddles and practical jokes and illusions and trickery because you'll need those skills to survive#and you're going to remember them and get good at them and not become obsessed about catastrophizing over them because they're FUN#the world isn't full of Terrible Dangers to Fear the world is full of THRILLING CHALLENGES that YOU can be clever enough to overcome!!#you're going to cheat death again and again so that when she finally catches you you giggle like a child and say 'good game!'#gnome stuff#worldbuilding#felix insp#idri insp#melliwyk insp#<- this applies to mel the least because the Culture is still there for her but she grew up in a very arcane modernized city#like in a gnomish neighborhood of a bigger integrated/ human city#so the survival value of this was less a factor for her#than for my blorbos who had to grow up with the extremely real possibility of getting eaten by wild animals

I hope decades from now they teach Overwatch as a master class on how capitalism and the pursuit of limitless growth at all costs will inevitably break down and consume even the most creative and globally-beloved ideas until they’re bled dry of every dollar they could extract from fans
#for those not in the know:#Blizzard has been very strongly hinting that JOHN CENA is going to be heavily involved in the next season of Overwatch#why? because Fortnite did it and printed money!!#who cares about the integrity of the universe! who cares about breaking immersion!#let’s chase that Fortnite money babey!!!#let just shove as many celebrities - who wouldnt even be alive in OW’s timeline - in there as we can and charge top dollar for their content#let’s have the Avengers help out with the omnic uprising! let’s have Goku fight Doomfist!#let’s have TRACER’S NIKE AIR MAX CHALLENGE and let’s have TikTok celebrity of the week help take down Null Sector#all for the low low cost of $30-40 per crossover skin bundle#fuck it! franchise is dead anyway!#🤑🤑🤑#overwatch

Coda and Ichor! (Catacombtale Style!)
These two don't have a *ton* of interaction in the Main story, but since Ichor and Balance are the only two characters I've fully designed, Coda gets stuck next to him, haha!
BONUS art jumpscare:
These two actually exist in another project I'm working on too called Codex, which is basically just removing the UT aspects of Catacombtale and doing a lot more worldbuilding and character design!
Coda is older in Codex and is marked by an old God (which should get him jailed or killed, as it means for everyone else) but he hides it for years and years before he finally flees the complex he's living in to go confront the gods and stop their destructive path. Meanwhile Ichor is much the same, only he's much more ready and willing to help Coda without much prompting. Here he's also sort of a Koi Fish! (His brother is a Betta Fish)
#utmv#utmv sans#utmv oc#my art#spot!drawn#utmv art#Catacombtale#Ichor Sans#Coda#ichor#Ichor is so funny to me because his Brother (Reward) uses puzzles and then a final battle as his “Challenge” but Ichor?#his Challenge is to tell him the best Pun you know. He is the God of Puns after all!#(I think he hides his true nature as God of Punishment from the player as long as possible. saying his bro is so cool for being a major god)#Coda is a human with a lot of integrity and stubborn morals. even Determination can't escape the Gods wrath. but integrity?#Gods have a code to respect a soul who follows their own nature and still co-exists despite it just like themselves#so Coda is primed to help out.#his sister is about 7 abd she's a soul of Bravery#which means Hearth (who watches over her as a safe-space from the eyes of the other gods) has his hands full#trying to keep her from charging after Coda#Coda is so funny because he'll just walk in sonewhere and start a “Nuh-uh” contest with any given god and like... usually ends up winning???#and usually the Challenges are more gentle because he's still a young mortal. hardly a Hero. certainly not the one of prophecy#everyone figures Asgore or Undyne will kill them but uhhh. yeah. no that doesn't happen.#There's a lot of Lore here but like...#one additional thing is that in the story Coda manages to spend enough time with Ichor to obtain an item#“Sans' Protection Charm.” /Ichor gave it to you. Says to keep hold of it when facing danger. It seems like an old keepsake./#that charm is one that Ichor carved years and years ago and he only gives out charms to mortals he cares for#not only has the underground seen his rage boil (even while chained) but they have also seen his sorrow. no one wants to be the one to kill#the mortal he has deemed harmless. some fear he might have another outburst. others worry he'd fall down.#it has no real stat changes but when Coda equips it? it's like turning on Easy Mode for Godly Challenges

Watching Stampede with my family made me realize how genuinely insane I have turned thanks to it
Like wow the actual physical EFFORT it took me to not randomly start explaining the composition of a scene, the color choice, the framing, the voice directing and the choreographies of certain scenes, as well as some of the lore behind it I should not explain because spoilers.
No, sorry. I lied on my résumé . I can’t like anything a normal amount. I’ve liked this for less than 4 months and I’m very deep into the trenches. And it will unfortunately become everyone else’s problem as well, because this one will stick around for a long time.
#being a lil mentally ill again guys#that’s right. finally managed to make the third rewatch with my binge watcher family in one night#I call it having fun at the expense of my mental integrity#to be fair Trigun is *gestures the air* right there for me to delve into deep analysis for no real reason#other than I’m obsessed with media that explores morally and ethically challenging topics#and the cool ass designs and badass weapons and super great characters#and I mean Trigun is just made to be loved tbh head full or head empty is so enjoyable either way and I think that’s a great charm it has#though at one point itll force you to THINK and I LOVE THAT#I want to scream with someone about Trigun and I do with my friends but it’s not the same when they haven’t watched it yet#and since I’m that.one.friend that looks to much into it because HAHA STORY CREATOR BUT#yeah. I want to talk about Trigun so bad…it’s…it’s a little embarrassing. but I obviously don’t fucking care the enough#because if I did that one person I didn’t know wouldn’t have said the ‘ah the Trigun girl’#somehow I became a synonymous to it. and I couldn’t be prouder.#trigun#trigun stampede#vash the stampede#lenssi rambles#trigun maximum#in my defense. I have adhd. which doesn’t really make up for much but at least it explains some extent of it

y'know, i don't actually have a problem with orym lashing out, shutting down a loved one's trauma, showcasing his own faults all out in the open. it's a really interesting hook for further character exploration/interaction/development...
however, i'm worried we're going to have another percy situation, where the consequences for a character's actions never manifest.
The recent episodes (episodes ever since Dorian's return) have been a constant pattern of "journey from point A to surprise battle B" with scant seconds in between, so there's just been no time for proper thorough character exploration.
Add into the mix this particular character exploration requires time, focus, and attention paid to a character who is easily forgotten/unacknowledged by the party (psst, i'm talking about Dorian here), well... i'm not holding out hope.
Not to mention, Dorian Storm --the one who would have to be heavily involved in this potential development-- is a deeply non-confrontational character with a history of social acquiescence, dodging, hiding his feelings. Not exactly the kind to supply the staunch, unwavering challenge orym's character needs for this to go anywhere/have any sort of consequence. And i don't have any faith in the rest of the bells hells providing that role based on the kinds of characters they currently are: ashton's too flip-floppy unfocused, chetney's inconsistent, imogen agrees with orym, laudna goes where imogen does (but maybe her new power-reorganizing will give her the confidence required for such a role? hard to say), and braius is new/supposedly evil and thus can easily be written off as not knowing what he's talking about if he steps into that challenger role.
(also also, no one tends to challenge orym, period, and stand their ground. AND, again, it'd require the party to pay attention to a character they don't while standing ground against a character they think of as ultimately knowing what they're talking about.)
Honestly, i think the entire exchange will just be dropped and unacknowledged, eventually forgotten about.
#what i don't like is a character of colour being shut down and ignored#consequences ARE IMPORTANT#inTEGRAL#the lack thereof is what turned me off percy in campaign 1#no shade on tal: he seemed to be really pushing and itching for consequences to fall on percy#but no one in the group challenged him despite the awful shit he did#consequences MAKE characters#critical role#dorian storm#ramblings#i really REALLY hope something comes of this#buuuuuut well...#look: i adore me some deep character flaws#because duh: i adore characters#but CONSEQUENCES need to happen

BONUS POINTS: tell us which of these challenges you've successfully completed! i've done ondra, skaen, eothas, wael, and i personally believe that if you're not playing with hylea's challenge on, you're not really playing the full version of the game.
#pillars of eternity#deadfire#polls#the wael challenge is an integral part of a vaargys playthrough#not only because he is a priest of wael#but also because he cannot do math#(we have that in common. the glanfathans laugh at us every day)

I'm gonna be a hater for a moment and say that I wish they hadn't made it so a "good" PC could recruit Minthara by knocking her out. Having recruited her on my "evil" playthrough, she's one of the best written characters in the game (when her dialogues actually trigger) and her VA's performance is fantastic. I'm not alone in having said the evil route is pretty bare bones relative to the good choices, and Minthara was one of the few things it had going for it. And I do want more people to experience that!
But you can do that by just. Thinking up an evil PC. Dark Urge is already pretty well set up for this if you're not great at conceptualizing original characters. The evil route is again already gutted, and this just makes the gameplay even more unbalanced. Your actions should have consequences - hence why raiding the grove has Karlach and Wyll leave your party. That's great, I love that moral fortitude on their part! And similarly, siding against Minthara locked you out of having her as a companion.
I know fully that this does not matter, and that other people are approaching the game differently. Hell, I'll probably knock Minthara out to recruit her on my next playthrough because I've adored having her around. (Though how I'll manage to gain approval with her as a goody two shoes, I don't know. The worldviews are pretty diametrically opposed.) But I think that it was a reasonable and well thought out decision to keep Minthara locked to that one choice at the onset. It didn't need to change. And playing as a morally grey or evil character, in a game whose moral greyness was already sparse, suffers more for it.
#bg3#bg3 spoilers#Minthara#larian critical#bg3 critical#idk what else to tag this i just wanna cover my bases for blacklisting lol#also it makes 0 sense from an rp perspective unless youre a pure pacifist. which is fine we all metagame#but now you're going to have to fit her into a party with wyll and karlach and Halsin and you know they haven't thought that through#it's wyll rewrites again. i prefer new wyll in a lot of ways but he's got no content#minthara cannot feel integrated in a good playthrough. i hope I'm wrong and will report back if i am but idk#larian have some faith in your narrative choices challenge#em.chats

well the challenges will be over soon anyways, but maybe you could reuse some old assets, like the pencils (if you have any more left), or use the random assortment of things people keep giving you for some reason
Oh, I'll consider those.. Thanks.

listen i am over the moon that dc has finally decided to bring sin back into black canary's story. i love that. i love sin lance. i love dinah lance. i love their relationship. what i do not love is the fact that they have retconned what sin really is to dinah. sin is not and has never been her sister. she is her daughter. there is a difference and that difference matters. to take that away from both characters is ridiculous, pointless, and honestly deeply offensive. and yes i will die on this hill.
#comic book creators stop being afraid of mothers challenge#you will mental gymnastics your way into explanations as to why these women are never allowed to experience motherhood#and the second you give them a piece of it you take it away and scrub it from existence and pretend it never happened#and you don't get how that might be seen as shockingly misogynistic and offensive as fuck?#y'all really and truly think motherhood makes a woman ''weak'' and it shows#and it's an extremely fucked up thing to do especially with dinah because of her long and storied relationship with motherhood#the arc was incredibly flawed but sin and dinah's relationship as mother and daughter became integral parts of who they are#and now they've erased that and it is most definitely because it's not seen as sexy or badass to be a mom#and that is fucking gross#anyway happy to see sin but they can rot for that retcon#dinah lance#black canary#sin lance#dc comics

Me: I will never not adore all the creative decisions CloversWorks put into the opening. Not only does the fuse line in the foreground serve as the visual representation of the spark mentioned in the lyrics that foreshadows one of the most climactic moments of the series people still cite fondly as a result of the incredible emotional and narrative payoff it culminates in—the destruction of Grace Field Plant No.3 in a sea of flames—built up by the three earlier background chants of “fire!” in English, but also as a figurative red string of fate between the three children destiny threw together whose personalities, strengths, and weaknesses all play off each other beautifully and are all integral to facilitating the escape that will forever alter the fate of two worlds after a millennia of suffering, adamantly refusing the outcomes the system had determined for them, and I appreciate the series allowing the audience to view this entirely through a platonic lens.
Also me with my REN-addled brain: red string of fate,,,soulmates,,,🖤🧡🤍 |33

kamen rider really is a series about women. with obstacles. to me
#my art#doodles#kamen rider#kamen rider fourze#miu kazashiro#i expected to end up liking her bc kamen rider is really good at writing the women interesting to me despite them being side characters#but i was not expecting an actual like. heartfelt She Is Not Just A Mean Girl moment and not in the Shes Actually Nice way#she IS mean. there didnt seem to be any redemption for that. but she also didnt belittle her rival she did everything in her power to win#even when she got injured in the process because that challenge was real to her. and she belittled her fans only because#she understood that their support was false and shallow and therefore meaningless to everyone#this is the miu show. gentaro give her the belt#THE THING ABOUT KAMEN RIDER IS THAT THE FEMALE CHARACTERS ARE ALWAYS REALLY INTERESTING BUT THEY STILL DO NOT MATTER#IT KILLS ME. HOW ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE A CHARACTER WHO IS INTEGRAL TO THE PLOT AND ALSO NOT HAVE HER INVOLVED IN ANYTHING#(that one is about hana from den-o and i know there were circumstances surrounding the actress' health it just still bothered me)
