it's extremely critical that you see the photo of the perp walk for luigi mangione as being propaganda. i've seen so many people wave it off and instead fawn over his looks. and trust me, i know it ended up being kind of pathetic and weird - but please don't brush it off as a "modelling opportunity" for him. it's a fucking terrifying message the police are sending.
i want to make a few comparisons here, in case you're not from the US or familiar with why the perp walk thing is something to pay attention to. just to set the groundwork for why this is a purposeful, unusual, and cruel act by the nyc police - for why this is not a common occurrence and for why that matters.
the prosecution alleges the show of force is due to the charge of "terrorism." for comparison, in june 2015, tsarnaev was found guilty for the boston marathon bombing, which killed 3 people and injured hundreds. his actions are considered to be an act of domestic terrorism. i have spent the last hour looking through google for pictures of similar to mangione's perp walk - and so far, i have found zero. i also just do not personally remember a moment like that, despite living in boston at the time.
they allege that luigi is a stone-cold killer who carried out a longterm plan, making him particularly dangerous. again for comparison: in nyc, recently cory martin was found guilty of the killing of brandy odom. the murder was planned and premeditated to steal insurance money. and yet no staged perp walk. why didn't her life matter enough for a "show of force"?
but mangione gets paraded by a veritable army of police officers as if he is a rabid animal. for a single citizen who allegedly killed one other single citizen, the "largest perp walk ever" occurs.
so what is the "strong message" that the mayor and the police were trying to send here? the mayor speaks as if mangione is already convicted of terrorism. there is a very thin number of people who feel threatened by the CEO's death. none of us felt like mangione needs to be under massive armed guard.
the message is that you shouldn't resist. they are trying to "make an example" of him - that if you behave badly and kill a single rich person, you'll be treated as if you killed hundreds of people. you will be treated worse than a man who was found guilty of terrorism. you will be considered guilty without trial. the message is that the rich are a protected class, and you cannot touch them without massive punishment. they are trying to prevent a revolution by showing dominance and force against you.
the message is that the police are a puppet of the wealthy and that the law is not equally applied across class disparity. it is "some are more equal than others." it is "one life is more precious than another."
the show of force wasn't for luigi. it was for us. it was a warning. they are trying to remind us who is really in control.

I am thinking I am going to wait a year to scrape up the funds and maybe try to fix my rotator cuffs before I atrophy all my chest muscles while healing. But like what if he's not taking my insurance a year from now. What if there's some other reason this is my only chance? What will I do then?

Is Add-On Coverage Worth It? A Guide to Riders in Car Insurance Policies
Car insurance is an essential investment for any vehicle owner, providing financial protection against unforeseen accidents, damages, and liabilities. However, a standard car insurance policy might not always offer comprehensive coverage for specific needs. This is where add-on covers or riders come into play, enhancing your protection by addressing particular risks.
In this blog, we will explore the significance of add-on covers, their benefits, and whether they are worth the extra cost.
Understanding Add-On Covers
Add-ons are optional benefits that you can purchase in addition to your car insurance policy. They are tailored to provide additional protection beyond the scope of a standard third-party insurance or comprehensive plan. While add-ons increase your premium, they offer valuable coverage in specific scenarios.
Popular Add-Ons for Car Insurance
Here are some of the most commonly opted add-ons in India:
Zero Depreciation Cover
This add-on ensures that the depreciation cost of your car’s parts is not deducted during claim settlements.
Ideal for new car owners who want full compensation for repairs.
2. Roadside Assistance Cover
Offers services like towing, minor repairs, fuel delivery, and more if your car breaks down.
A must-have for those who travel frequently.
3. Engine Protection Cover
Covers engine repair or replacement costs due to waterlogging or mechanical issues.
Especially useful during monsoons or in flood-prone areas.
4. Return to Invoice (RTI) Cover
Provides the full invoice value of the car, including registration and road tax, in case of total loss or theft.
Highly beneficial for expensive vehicles.
5. Passenger Cover
Offers medical expenses or compensation for passengers injured during an accident.
Essential for families or those who frequently drive with others.
6. Consumables Cover
Covers the cost of consumables like engine oil, brake fluid, and nuts and bolts during repairs.
Ensures you aren’t out of pocket for minor repair items.
Benefits of Add-On Covers
Enhanced Financial Security: Minimize out-of-pocket expenses for specific damages.
Tailored Protection: Customize your policy according to your driving habits and risks.
Peace of Mind: Stay prepared for unique situations like theft or breakdowns.
Are Add-On Covers Worth It?
Add-on covers are undoubtedly beneficial, but their value depends on individual requirements. Here’s when you should consider them:
New Car Owners: Add-ons like zero depreciation and RTI are highly recommended.
Frequent Travelers: Roadside assistance and engine protection can be lifesavers.
High-Risk Zones: If you live in areas prone to floods or theft, specific covers can be invaluable.
Budget Considerations: While add-ons increase the premium, they often save significant costs in the long run.
Buying Car Insurance Online with Add-Ons
With the ease of buying car insurance online, comparing and selecting the best policy with suitable add-ons is simpler than ever. Look for the best car insurance providers offering customizable plans and transparent pricing.
Final Words-
Add-on covers can significantly enhance the value of your car insurance policy, providing tailored protection for specific risks. While they come at an additional cost, the financial security and peace of mind they offer often outweigh the expense. Evaluate your driving patterns, the condition of your car, and the potential risks to decide which add-ons are right for you.
Incorporating the right add-ons ensures that your car is not just insured but comprehensively protected, making your investment truly worthwhile.
Ready to enhance your car insurance coverage? Compare policies and choose the best fit for your needs today!
