Inside Out 3 idea

So, Inside Out 2 was a pretty good sequel that expands the first film. Obviously, there's a likelihood that a third film would be made in the inevitable future. But what kind of story would it be about?

Since the first film is about Riley's relationship with her family and the second about her friends, why not have the third film be about her struggles of being in a relationship? Let's workshop.

After finishing high school, Riley's entering college and of course she finds a guy and the two started dating. The emotions are skeptical but if he's what Riley wants, they'll support her. However, Riley's new boyfriend, whom for simplicity's sake will be referred as A, starts to influence her as she takes a break from her usual hobbies like hockey to hang out with him or to support his needs. The emotions are aware that A is a bad influence but are powerless to do so as Riley suppress her own emotions as she thinks she should be happy for A's sake.

A manifests inside Riley's mind as he's the version of what she sees of him, handsome, charming, rich, powerful, the perfect boyfriend. He takes over Imagination Land and is planning on taking over the personality islands. During the climax where Riley starts to learn more of him and his bad behavior, the A that she sees in her mind starts to take a more monstrous and unpleasant appearance, an exaggeration of A's real self.

Since the second films has a similar premise of the main emotions being sent outside of headquarters by force, have them voluntarily leave as they must stop A's influence from taking control of Riley entirely.

Ideas for gags like Riley taking medication recommended to her by A manifesting in her mind as workers "taking care" of Anxiety, by treating her to a spa or detaining her. Without Anxiety's bad predictions, Riley sees pass A's red flags and potential bad choices.

These are only the things I thought of at the moment and if you got any ideas of your own or to expand on this one, feel free to.

Thought I’d throw my hand in.

Pride keeps the other emotions from straying too far from Riley’s sense of self and defaults to control if it doesn’t need anyone else at the moment or has to correct a mistake. Thing is, she can occasionally make her act too stubbornly and cause her to refuse important tasks.

Spite is vaguely similar to Anger and Disgust, but he instead induces catharsis to keep stress from damaging HQ. Despite appearances, he’s typically in better spirits than them since Riley isn’t a spiteful person. Instead, he serves as a temporary assistant to reel the other emotions in as they work things out.

Pride’s designed off of horses (ponytail, long face, heels that look like hooves), while Spite’s more along the lines of a feral cat. Both are based on how the sense of self manages the emotions efficiently as it develops a sense of right and wrong. One holds the other back as it sticks to its principles (even if Riley’s principles aren’t always correct), while the other funnels all negativity into righteous fury (even if Riley doesn’t have the full story).

I also have plans for Passion (magenta), Satisfaction (lime), and Surprise (cyan), but these two seemed more relevant and easier to justify being their own things.

My ideas for Inside Out 3!

IDEA 1/3(4?)

Maybe Riley is in the place of the team leader now like the one she looked up to in the 2nd, and having to deal with potential new recruits that are now in the place she used to be in.

One of them is better (while being younger) than her so Envy and Anger has a lot to do! A relatable internal struggle to play out.

Riley overcoming this would be an act of maturing emotionally. Maybe there's also learning the responsibility of being/behaving like someone young ones look up to (since she doesn't have siblings OH GOD WHAT IF THEY GO THE EASY WAY AND JUST ADD A NEW BABY TO THE MIX BOSS BABY STYLE I SWEAR TO GOD-

Ignoring that.

There's also the possibility of her having to uphold her (now) long distance friendships which was kind of glanced over in the first movie. Imagine balancing the two separate friend groups. One you have to manually schedule hangout times outside of school with, the other just happens naturally from being classmates/teammates.

How ARE her old childhood friends doing? They kinda just drift apart because they split so young and long distance ain't something 9-11 kids really do? Ngl forgot her age

IDEA 2

A larger timeskip. She's now worrying about going into high-school, as all the middleschool teachers say it will be 10x harder, no-nonsense, no leniency, college level expectations and basiclaly adulthood. (As I remember them expressing to my class :/) And kids around her talk about horror stories their older siblings tell them about freshmen hunt or whatever fake hazing humors people spread.

The general vibe the world puts on going into high-school is awful and a lot to deal with emotionally. But when she gets there, she realises it's way chiller than middle school. But they DO start hounding her about her future and picking out a college already, as if a 9th grader could make a good choice to hold on to forever, when she's doesn't even know how it works yet. I hated feeling this pressure when my biggest previous concern was my Minecraft diamonds being stolen in my single player world.

As for plot, other than suffering from expecting to be hazed by kids bigger than you until 2nd semester where it finally clicks that no one cares, maybe this one's plot is more focused on the emotions' adventure. Idk what that would be sorry-

But I know the outcome will be! It will be Riley learning to make room for ALL her emotions- meaning the new guys get their own mf beds now. No more sleeping on chairs. She LITERALLY makes room for them, learning to compartmentalize them and give them their own proper space equally. This is also part of the headquarters expansion finally being done by the puberty construction crew, Riley to the point growth spurts slow down so a lot of the work is done. I haven't gotten taller since 9th grade RIP

This can be paired with the jealousy of a new recruit route!

IDEA 3

Graduating high-school???? I really don't expect them to do this big of a skip, but it's also a very emotionally, mentally wild time. Prepping for college and the like. More friendship and family upkeep, learning to live on your own in a dorm, maturing as a person and into a functional adult. The possibilities for such a big skip are endless!

IDEA 4

The one everyone has already guessed/wants/expects. A crush is introduced! Shenanigans ensue. Maybe pair this with the Entering High-school idea for a double whammy. Add the new recruit story for a TRIPLE whammy.

BONUS

I really hope they don't give her a new sibling like cmon the baby route is too easy. For some reason babies are really marketable to kids and, while becoming an older sibling is a lot to deal with emotionally, I'd think Riley's too old to have too much of a problem with it..? Like, her family island is already smaller and she's distant on it. A new sibling would be a lot more impactful if she was still attached to her parents and the baby feels like a rift between them and their care for her. But as a preteen she'd already want more space to herself. Her biggest concern is her friend group.

I just thought of an idea for an Inside Out 3 premise.

This is based on the fact that Riley has both female and male emotions, unlike other characters, so I thought that a good premise for the movie would be an adult Riley going through the journey of discovering that she is bigender. It would be both an interesting way to explain her having boy and girl emotions and would also be great representation for people who identify as bigender in real life. We could see Riley experiencing many emotions during this discovery, possibly even feeling multiple emotions at once, such as Riley feeling anxious to come out to her friends and family out of fear that they might judge her or, worse, or Riley feeling either sad, mad, embarrassed, or even all three at once when people try to shun and ostracize her because of her identity being different from what is seen as normal, and possibly Riley feeling both angry and envious towards people who are a lot more confident with their sexualities/gender identities. We could even have a new emotion, Shame. Shame wouldn't be an antagonist, but they would unintentionally cause some trouble. In the end, Riley would come out to her friends and family. They would accept her, and the emotions would end up getting better at working as a team. Now I know this probably won't happen because Pixar is owned by Disney, which is a much more conservative company than they try to make you believe, but this would be such an amazing story.

Like we already got how Sadness and Joy were lost in the first movie, than Anxiety taking control in the second film, I think I the third should be about Riley is ready to go to college next Thursday, and then, nine new emotions appear to take over Riley's mind, the names would be Love, Courage, Surprise, Pride, Trust, Suspicion, Frustration, Shaudenfreude, and the dark emotion himself, Spite. The nine emotions cannot handle it when Riley develops a new crush onto the new boy and that's where things get serious when Spite takes the eight new emotions in his control and uses Love to make Riley's crush into love madness.

As Spite gets rid of our nine heroic emotions out of their jobs, it's up to Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, Anger, Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment to save Headquarters and go through place to place in Riley's new developed mind, which is practically now a Mindtopia. And it means it'll be a lot more tricky.

Hey so last night I had a dream of a Inside Out 3 trailer

I've already forgotten most of it but I remember that at least 3 new emotions got introduced. Well, they weren't as much emotions and moreso just... states, I guess?

There was punishment, sugar and... uh... I forgot the third and last one but she looked like a sweet motherly type person in a turquoise similar to Envy.

Punishment was like, super extra but didn't really do much unfortunately. He was like.... a mix between periwinkle and grey. He had a long pointy nose and a moustache.

Sugar was probably the most defined of the ideas my dream self cooked up, even if she wasn't really an emotion. She was super hyper, easily excitable, a blabber mouth- She was also a light gray, with her skin having a very sparkly texture as if she was literally made of sugar.

So from what little I remember that kind of resembled a coherent plot for the movie was.... Well, Anxiety setting up strange contraptions along the memory ball holding shelves and uhhh.... Oh yeah one of the most coherent things was a laser cutting the HQ into two seperate pieces. But not like, down the middle so the console splits into two, moreso down the middle so it was the console half and the chilling-out area half if that makes sense. I have no clue how or what caused a laser but I think my brain might have set up Anxiety as the villain for inside out 3??

One thing I'd really like to see in Inside Out 3 is the connection between emotion and physical feeling.

To demonstrate how to healthfully draw the connection between what we feel physically and what we feel emotionally.

That a certain tightness in your chest could be embarrassment or sadness or anxiety or excitement.

That heat on your face could be joy or anger or something else.

There's a reason we call them feelings. We feel them in our entire body, not exclusively in our mind.
