So on a bit of a whim, with a few people I work with, we created The Game Awards for Games Who Can't Afford the Game Awards.

Or TGAGWCAGA for short.

It's pretty much exploded over the past week on Bluesky where a lot of indie developers have made their home.

We asked indie games to nominate themselves, whether they had released this year or whether they were an upcoming game that couldn't afford to pay for the advertising space at the Game Awards.

Geoff Keighley said that Gamescom's Opening Night Light were going to be charging as much as $480,000 for ad spaces during next year's showcase.

That's simply not remotely affordable for thousands of studios.

So while it's a bit of a parody, we also hope it'll shine some light on great indie games, and our form is of course written in Comic Sans.

on today's rewatch: S3E5 [Tick Tock]

i'm seeing a lot of chatter about the awards season and how both my faves are submitted for it. to be honest, i'm making this post because i love Luke newton and i want him recognised. i'm not sure if this adds to anything for it but i want to do my bit anyway.

today, i offer the way Luke has distinguished the way he has Colin call out Pen's name.

Prime example:

through Polin, i discovered that i have a kink and it's an aural one 😏 i like listening and understanding the way people talk and the certain inflections they have a strong preferences to. it's why i admire actors who can do great accent work-- one that doesn't just reflect the place they're supposed to be from but giving a personality to their way of speaking.

if you have time to rewatch, try to catch the way Luke portrays Colin calling Pen's name. There is always a catch-- a beat before he says her name as if it's caught up in his train of thoughts. As if saying her name always has this weight that he needs to carefully carry. i don't know when i started to notice these pauses/beats but i think Luke evolved this way of calling Pen's name from S2. it's the groundwork for Colin's growing feelings. i mean, it's so subtle, so nuanced that it's easy to miss. quite frankly, a lot of people probably missed it.

i read the pauses/beats as a way of reverence. as if, if i say your name, may it always come out of my mouth with the utmost care and love. i should probably also explain that i am particular when i say someone's name. i can't just say it because i am a complete introvert and if i address someone by their name, then it means i mean to grab their attention and the subsequent conversation i'll have with them bears significant meaning to me.

that just sounded as if i'm projecting my personality to Colin but i do identify to him the most and i just love that even these small things were considered by Luke.

The CEO of the studio behind Black Myth: Wukong has came out criticising The Game Awards because they didn’t win game of the year.

"The games nominated this year were all excellent ... but I really didn’t understand the criteria for this year's Game of the Year ... felt like I came here for nothing!"

Wukong won two other awards so hardly nothing. Being a sore loser is one thing, but a sore winner is much worse.

He also…embarrassingly…wrote a Game of the Year award acceptance speech two years ago, and posted about it on Weibo in what can only be seen as delusions of grandeur.

Smallbu win Character Animation Emmy Award for work on Fionna and Cake

While Fionna and Cake as a whole wasn't nominated for the Emmys this year, there are still several Emmy awards handed out to individuals, and the juried awards were announced yesterday!

Alex and Lindsay Small-Butera, known together as Smallbu, have received an Emmy for Character Animation for their work on The Winter King, in which they animated the Winter Wonder World musical sequence.

Congrats!

Smallbu have won an Emmy for their work on Adventure Time before, for their animated sequences in the episode Ketchup. That one was awarded to Lindsay, while this one was awarded to Alex.

Never actually paid attention to the Steam awards this year until the results were out, and holy shit this year was beyond an absolute joke.

I mean look at this one screenshot.

You wanna tell me a literal ten year old game with a practically non-existent Hollywood scoring slop OST has better music than a literal rhythm game???
