How many calories can be burned in one session
How Many Calories Can Be Burned in One Session In a world where fitness and well-being take center stage, the quest to understand and optimize calorie burn during exercise is more relevant than ever. Whether you're a seasoned gym enthusiast or someone taking their first steps towards a healthier lifestyle, the question of how many calories can be burned in one session is likely to cross your mind. This article delves into the intricate dynamics of caloric expenditure, shedding light on the factors that influence it and offering insights into maximizing the benefits of your workout sessions.
Tumblr media
The Basics of Caloric Burn:
At its core, the concept of burning calories during exercise is grounded in the principle of energy expenditure. Calories are units of energy, and the body utilizes them to perform various functions, including physical activity. The measurement of caloric burn is typically expressed in kilocalories (kcal) or calories.
The number of calories burned during a single session of exercise can vary widely based on several factors, including the type of activity, intensity, duration, individual characteristics, and even environmental conditions.
Type of Activity:
Different activities engage different muscle groups and energy systems, resulting in varied caloric expenditure. For instance, cardiovascular exercises like running, cycling, or swimming are renowned for their ability to burn a significant number of calories. Strength training, on the other hand, contributes to muscle building and can boost metabolism in the long term, albeit with a potentially lower immediate caloric burn.
Intensity:
The intensity of your workout plays a crucial role in determining the number of calories burned. Higher intensity exercises, such as high-intensity interval training (HIIT), can lead to an elevated post-exercise calorie burn known as excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC). EPOC refers to the increased oxygen consumption and energy expenditure that occurs after intense exercise as the body works to return to its pre-exercise state.
Duration:
The duration of your workout session also influences caloric burn. Longer sessions generally result in a higher total energy expenditure. However, the relationship between duration and calorie burn is not linear. There's an optimal point where the benefits plateau, and excessively long workouts may lead to diminishing returns or increased risk of overtraining.
Individual Characteristics:
Individual factors such as age, weight, gender, and fitness level significantly impact caloric expenditure. Generally, individuals with higher body weight burn more calories during exercise because it requires more energy to move a larger mass. Men often burn more calories than women due to differences in body composition and muscle mass.
Factors such as age and fitness level also play a role. As individuals age, their metabolism may slow down, affecting calorie burn. Additionally, a more conditioned athlete may burn fewer calories doing the same exercise as someone less accustomed to the activity, as the body becomes more efficient over time.
Environmental Conditions:
External factors like temperature and humidity can affect caloric expenditure. Exercising in extreme conditions, whether hot or cold, prompts the body to work harder to regulate its internal temperature, leading to increased energy expenditure.
Maximizing Caloric Burn:
While understanding the factors influencing caloric burn is crucial, optimizing this process requires a holistic approach to fitness. Here are some tips to help you make the most of your workout sessions:
Diversify Your Workouts:
Incorporate a variety of exercises into your routine to engage different muscle groups and energy systems. This not only enhances overall fitness but also contributes to a more comprehensive caloric burn.
Combine Cardio and Strength Training:
Balancing cardiovascular exercises with strength training can be particularly effective. While cardio burns calories during the workout, strength training contributes to muscle building, which, in turn, can elevate your resting metabolic rate.
Embrace High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT):
HIIT involves short bursts of intense exercise followed by periods of rest or lower intensity. This approach has been shown to boost calorie burn during and after the workout, making it an efficient option for those with time constraints.
Pay Attention to Nutrition:
Fueling your body with the right nutrients is crucial for optimal performance and recovery. Consuming a balanced diet that includes a mix of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats ensures that your body has the energy and building blocks it needs.
Stay Hydrated:
Proper hydration is essential for maintaining performance and promoting overall health. Dehydration can impair exercise performance and reduce the efficiency of calorie burning.
Listen to Your Body:
Overtraining can lead to fatigue, increased risk of injury, and a plateau in results. Pay attention to your body's signals, allow for adequate rest and recovery, and avoid pushing yourself beyond your limits.
Conclusion:
The journey to understanding how many calories can be burned in one session is a nuanced exploration that goes beyond simple metrics. It involves recognizing the interplay of various factors and adopting a holistic approach to fitness. By embracing diverse workouts, paying attention to intensity and duration, and considering individual characteristics, you can tailor your exercise routine to optimize caloric burn. Remember, the key is not just the quantity of calories burned in a single session but the sustainable and healthy habits that contribute to long-term well-being.

I’m so tired of wlw background ships in mlm fandoms.
mlm shippers almost never develop wlw ships to the degree that the audience feels invested in them. The conflict and character development and love story rely on tropes rather than actual narratives, yet fandoms act like they’re doing wlws a favour by shoehorning in this shitty “representation” when it’s just golden retriever x black cat over and over and over again in different fonts.
To be clear I don’t blame anyone for not having big wlw ships, because most major media out there do not have two fully fledged female characters you can ship together. If you want to write mlm ships, good for you! If you want a lazy wlw ship in the background, that’s fine! But don’t act as if the fandom actually cares about them, or that anyone did the legwork to make them characters that you can care about. Most of these female characters are never properly developed in the canon source material, and they’re almost never properly developed in the fanon material either. You can always tell by how these women are like, one archetype + gay (sporty gay, feisty gay, slutty gay etc, like some kind of gay Spice Girls). Yet fandoms just love to act like these background wlws mean so much & have the best love stories & everyone just should ship them. It’s all so performative.
wlws are not an aesthetic. wlws are not 2D happy couples to round out your queer utopia, a queer utopia that somehow still manages to foreground men. Women are always treated as 2D characters in narratives, except now there’s a subgenre where these 2D women are gay. Groundbreaking.

ASSORTED HEADCANONS — Milo James Thatch
When I first started writing as Milo, I wanted to pursue a holistic approach to his character that actively took into careful consideration the turbulent time period in which he lived. Here are some of the headcanons I’ve come up with him, to give y’all a better picture of my portrayal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Growing up in GILDED AGE AMERICA had an enormous impact on Milo's character, and plays a distinct role in determining the course of his reaction to Rourke's betrayal. During this time period, "ROBBER BARONS" such as J.P. Morgan, Andrew Carnegie, and John D. Rockefeller ruled with an iron fist over their respective industries, flaunting their wealth and prioritizing profit over people in order to get ahead. Rourke's plan surely would have eerily reminded Milo of the greed exhibited by these individuals, heightening his aversion beyond the fierce desire to protect Atlantis and her people. The negative consequences of AMERICAN CAPITALISM were on full display as Milo came of age, and it is this that enables him to so clearly predict the mechanisms through which Rourke would weaponize Atlantis's material and spiritual resources.
Milo is incredibly SUPERSTITIOUS, and has been this way for the vast majority of his life. Many of these superstitions were instilled in him by his grandfather Thaddeus, but his firm belief in the concept that breaking a mirror brings bad luck comes directly from personal experience. Shortly before he was due to give a major presentation on Atlantis to the museum board, he accidentally broke a handheld mirror by dropping it on the floor — and the presentation was a failure.
Milo's grandfather, Thaddeus, was a veteran of the American Civil War. He was called to serve in the Union Army due to the Conscription Act of 1863, and subsequently joined the ranks of the men fighting alongside ULYSSES S. GRANT in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Thaddeus fought alongside Grant for the rest of the war, including APPOMATTOX. Milo grew up knowing of his grandfather's military service; however, Thaddeus rarely, if ever, spoke of his experiences on the battlefield. He once met the former General Grant at the age of five years old, but barely remembers it because of how young he was at the time. What he does remember, however, is witnessing firsthand the effects of trauma from war wrought upon his grandfather. As such, Milo has developed a profound fear of war & bloodshed and will strive to keep peace at all costs.
Thaddeus once attempted to take Milo horseback riding in the Appalachian Mountains; however, to say that this did not go well is an understatement. Milo returned home with several broken bones and a lifelong aversion to equestrian activities.
Milo exhibits numerous characteristics that, when considered collectively, would result in a modern day diagnosis of AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER. Milo's characterization in the film suggests that his SPECIAL INTEREST is the lost kingdom of Atlantis, and he "infodumps" to the expedition's crew numerous times throughout their journey. As exhibited by his difficulty to befriend his fellow adventurers, Milo finds social situations challenging; he is a LITERAL thinker who struggles to understand the subtle rules of etiquette that govern group dynamics. SOCIAL CUES, such as Kida's ceaseless flirting, fly right over his head, making him entirely oblivious to Kida's affections. His affliction of TIME BLINDNESS demonstrated in the very first scene of the movie and made possible by POOR TIME MANAGEMENT skills, is also evident of Autism.
Although Milo pretended otherwise — unable to stomach the fact that he was upset over the loss of friendship with a man who so callously put profit over lives — Rourke’s betrayal STUNG. For many years, lingering emotions over Rourke's status as a turncoat haunted Milo, and this tragic fact became his deepest, darkest secret. Not even Kida, who is able to read Milo like an open book, suspects that the emotional damage wrought by Rourke cuts so deeply. Milo values loyalty to friends and family above all else, and the experience with Rourke was the very first time he ever witnessed someone blatantly disregard one of his core values.
When he needs to think, Milo will take a walk on the beach at Long Island Sound. Oftentimes, this endeavor will instead lead to him getting distracted by acquiring seashells to add to his already extensive collection.

The amount of platonic love and tenderness in Michael's farewell letter to Louisa is off the charts. And one of the signs of that love is the kind of focus Michael places on small mundane things about Louisa. Like the detail with which he describes the ways she laughs: "your short little laugh. Not quite a bark, but a shift so sudden that it has to be genuine. [...] So real, never forced. No melody to it, really, but still musical. Sometimes short and guttural. Sometimes a cackle, like notes going up a scale". Michael describes Louisa's laughter in such a specific way that shows the attention he pays to her and the way he holds her ordinary mannerisms in his mind. He doesn't describe her laugh with the kind of typical compliments that could be seen as generic - it's so clear that these descriptions are specific to Louisa and his memories of her, and there's so much love in that specificity.
Then there's the story of Michael bringing whiskey back from the kitchen without even realising, and the way he remembers Louisa's expression when she noticed: "everything, everything I needed to know was there, every freckle and contour. There was no judgment. Your face was open, your eyes soft and understanding, your mouth bent into the smallest knowing grin, your expression just barely pinched, just a touch of pain". There's something so profound to me about the level of attention he pays to the details of her expression, and how those small signals communicated something important between them without words.
These are two characters whose relationship has been repeatedly confirmed to be purely platonic (and remaining platonic) both within the podcast and by the show creators. It means so much to me that as part of that platonic dynamic, Michael pays such close loving attention to Louisa, and he remembers these ordinary details even when he's dying and hasn't seen her in months, and he says things like "your face, I could fall into it, like it was a calm lake or a pool. I could fall into it and float."
#Greater Boston#Greater Boston podcast#Michael Tate#Louisa Alvarez#You know that post that's like 'mortifying ordeal of being known and all that#but sometimes a friend mentions something small about you#and you feel like your heart is being cradled in their hands'?#That's what I think about when I think about Michael starving to death after months of isolation#and yet still holding in his mind the specific sound of Louisa's laugh#and the way she looked at him in a moment of vulnerability#Sometimes I think about Michael saying 'It will be that look that welcomes me to whatever’s next'#or how Michael is always afraid but not with or of Louisa#and I have to sit down for a while...#If you'll allow me a ramble#I think often having a high level of loving focus on someone's small characteristics#- particularly on things like their face or their voice -#is seen as inevitably a romantic indicator#and I think that assumption dismisses the experience of looking at - or thinking about - a friend#and feeling so full of platonic love at their ordinary details#not because of how they look or indeed because of any of those individual details themselves#but because those details are a part of someone you love and so they become suffused with love#And that's something I hear in the way Michael talks about Louisa's laugh#Their friendship is so beautiful#Even if he didn't call her his best friend or say he loves her in his farewell letter. you'd know it from every other sentence#Greater Boston podcast spoilers#Greater Boston spoilers#the empty man posteth

What inspired capers name?
i've said it a few times at this point, but i've had like no proper planning done for the Anemoi names besides Zephyr,,,
with Euros the only thought i had in mind was that he was supposed to be a cheery all-over-the-place character, maybe a little childish, embody the certain twirling joy that an upbeat folk song brings. i don't remember how exactly i got to it, but i found out about the word "caper"
Tumblr media
and went "HELL yeah, that sounds like Exactly the sort of thing that would define him spectacularly!!!" n so Caper of Euros came to be
in-universe i suppose the explanation could be similar. they set up a base for cheery Individuality n though most of the personality work will be done by Euros himself as he sponges in experiences, he was bound to be all :DDD, so Caper it was

Hacking my brain on depression: one of my favourite things to do when depressed is convince myself that me feeling like shit is actually good, because it's an appropriate reaction to all the horrible things happening in the world.
The way tumblr social justice culture used to be structured was very based on 'bad feelings in a privileged person=something good is happening'. This came from the idea that people in privileged groups often feel very defensive when introduced to new ideas about how the world is structured in their favour. Their negative feelings about learning this eventually (in theory) translate into learning more and understanding more about the reality of marginilised people.
This is a real thing but it's not all there is. It's actually really weird now I come to think of it that the tumblr social justice sphere (and later the twitter version of same) latched onto this so hard. There are many other ways to come across information that makes you seriously change your worldview about privilege. There are also many things that can make you feel awful without any kind of productive thought and no benefit to anyone else or to yourself. Feeling like shit in reality usually doesn't translate to doing anything productive. (I'm not convinced it works in most social justice contexts except someone discovering a new idea for the first time, actually.)
So occassionally you still run into the kind of stuff like above on here, and it's really bad for my brain, personally. I actually use it as a kind of emotional self harm during the depression spirals. (This is probably obvious if you read my blog.) I get so I can't even contemplate trying to access outside help with my illness, or the simplest internal coping mechanisms that would help (e.g. if reading horrible tumblr blogs makes you feel worse, stop!). So I try and hack my brain by telling it- actually it's really important that you stop this because otherwise you will actually be worse at social justice stuff- if you can't engage with anything without shutting down how is that a good thing for any kind of cause? And I try and use that to get myself out of a spiral. How well it works will be seen- if I write 20 tumblr posts in the next few hours: it didn't work. If I'm not seen agian for a while: it worked.

James 1
James, a slave of God and of the Lord Christ Jesus: To the 12 tribes of the Dispersion. Greetings.
Consider it a great joy, my brothers, whenever you experience various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. But endurance must do its complete work, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing.
Now, if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith without doubting. For the doubter is like the surging sea, driven and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. An indecisive man is unstable in all his ways.
The brother of humble circumstances should boast in his exaltation, but the one who is rich should boast in his humiliation because he will pass away like a flower of the field. For the sun rises with its scorching heat and dries up the grass; its flower falls off, and its beautiful appearance is destroyed. In the same way, the rich man will wither away while pursuing his activities.
A man who endures trials is blessed, because when he passes the test he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.
No one undergoing a trial should say, "I am being tempted by God." For God is not tempted by evil, and He Himself doesn't tempt anyone. But each person is tempted when he is drawn away and enticed by his own evil desires. Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death.
Don't be deceived, dearly loved brothers. Every generous act and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights; with Him there is no variation or shadow cast by turning. By His own choice, He gave us a new birth by the message of truth so that we would be the firstfruits of His creatures.
My dearly loved brothers, understand this: Everyone must be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger, for man's anger does not accomplish God's righteousness. Therefore, ridding yourselves of all moral filth and evil, humbly receive the implanted word, which is able to save you.
But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his own face in a mirror. For he looks at himself, goes away, and immediately forgets the kind of man he was. But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but one who does good works-- this person will be blessed in what he does.
If anyone thinks he is religious without controlling his tongue, then his religion is useless and he deceives himself. Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

Funny how swathes of crucial, historical events or movements are propelled forward by individuals. So you need to understand the individual to understand much of what goes on in the world. And to understand the individual, you cannot separate them from their personal relationships, daily activities, the mundane stuff. So much of what we consider boring facets of everyday life are so central to comprehending what is going on on a larger political or cultural scale.
Then again, are individuals really what propel these events? Definitely questionable. But that doesn't negate the fact that these shared experiences we all participate in fundamentally alter the world in big ways.
What I'm trying to get across is the idea that you cannot separate the individual from their environment and ignore the importance of the boring everyday, social and communal activities etc in shaping who they are. Behind every 'success story' (or the opposite) there are many, many more people involved than only that single person.
