Calea Victoriei
Today, I will take you on a new trip. We will walk along the most famous street in Bucharest, Calea Victoriei. Long ago, this street had a different name, so let’s explore its history and the stories it hides. We’ll begin with the various names this street has had over time. The first mentions refer to it as “the Great Street” or “the way to Brașov,” as it was a major route leading to that city.…

I feel like something that should have been explored more in Arcane is that despite the dangers and pretty much horrific conditions, Zaun children seemingly grow up a lot more caring and have a larger understanding of family in comparison to Piltover children. And if such a reflection of the real world in a sense.
The kids of Zaun seemingly grow up with a lot more adult support. Ekko is easily welcomed under Benzo’s wings. Vander adopts 4 kids (two of which we learn he knew of before their parents death, two of which we can’t be sure of). Silco, despite all what happened, and his ulterior motives, shows no problem adopting Powder/Jinx. In the alternate universe it seems as though he’s still played a part in the kids lives. Jinx adopts Isha easily and Sevika cares for her as well. Hell, even Mr. War Crimes Against Humanity does well with little Viktor (until ya know, the animal abuse).
Hell, up until Vander dies (the first time) there seems to be a large understanding of if there’s an orphan or a kid in need of guidance, take them in! (And certainly don’t inform them of your plans to turn a giant pink salamander into drugs and be confused when a nine year old doesn’t understand). If a kid wants to be your apprentice, let them! For the most part, until things all went wrong in the end of act 1 of season 1, the worst parts of Zaun seem pretty typical for any city in poverty.
Match that with what we see with how Caitlyn and Jayce grow up. Caitlyn is given adult support, yes, and it’s clearly a good adult mentor, but it’s not entirely by her choice. It’s been chosen for her. She’s safe, but there’s a lack of freedom of choice. Meanwhile, when Jayce gets older, and that same accident in Act 1 happens, the family that supported him and his mom turns their backs. His own mom doesn’t support him either, because she’s afraid of what he’s talking about, but also because he’s damming them to being outcasts.
Conversely, Vander is more than willing to take the fall for what Claggor, Milo, Vi and Powder did. He’s willing to go to prison for a long time, in order for them to have a better future. Despite Vi’s best efforts, he’s not going to listen to her (she is just a kid) and he’s not letting his family go down and get hurt.
Meanwhile, a man who grew up in this mentality, where there’s a wide sense of family support from people who aren’t your biological family, is the one to go to Jayce, a stranger, and tells him he believes in him. It’s why it’s such a shock to Jayce; his own family and family friends denied him. They didn’t support him.
I think that’s what makes all the difference. Piltover and Zaun have wildly different understandings of family and forgiveness. For Piltover, it shuns and damns the lives of those who upset the balance. For Zaun, it provides safety and never ending understanding.
Just. I’m thinking.

LIPS, MIND, HEART. KNIGHTS, VIOLENCE. CONVICTION.
some. kind of idea. I might try and tackle next year. tragically, I need to do research on the medieval economy lmao
the first knight is the youngest of the pair, eager for war glory. the priest is thinking of murdering him on his return. the eldest brother is thinking of deserting the army en route for a coastal fishing village where no one will know his name.
the statue with all the swords is our lady of sorrows, traditionally fashioned with seven swords. I've decided to do three on each side and the seventh held in front instead of the usual 3 on one side and 4 on the other split I see so that it matches that other panel's sword/hand position :)))

For all the Obi/Jango and Obi/Cody I put on this blog??? Yeah Obi-Wan and Quinlan have been Jedi married since they were 9-10 and found a book on how Jedi ceremonies work and had a Jedi handfasting ceremony with Bant as the officiant and their friends all there telling them they’re gonna get in trouble.
Anyways. Baby soulmates. They might have a couple kids together. But I don’t care if they stay together they just have decided their souls will be entwined for all eternity in the ether. Sometimes Quinlan blows Obi-Wan’s back out. Sometimes Quinlan watches someone else do it. We all have our kinks. Theirs is being jerks and no one will ever understand them as much as each other.
Obi-Wan puts salt in Quinlan’s caff and Quinlan never expects it. Quinlan tells all Obi’s boyfriends embarrassing stories. It’s rude.
So basically. They are The Ship. It’s just that any other romance in the fic happens to be side pairing to them being horribly codependent. I don’t care if Quinlan interrupts Obi-Wan’s date with Jango to complain about his relationship issues with *insert anyone here* Jango will just have to accept that Obi doesn’t even want to leave to go comfort Quin, but he WILL invite Quin to come over and cuddle BOTH of them (Jango is. Baffled. Is this a threesome??? Is he about to have a threesome??? Maybe he can hand Quinlan to Myles they might either fuck or fight to the death it’s okay him and Obi can watch. Like a movie) and Jango just. Accepts that.
People who date Obi just accept that he has two barnacles in the form of a very annoying Kiffar prince and what might be the Messiah of the outer rim???? They’re not quite sure about the growling blonde, but he’s sure adorable. Jango watched him kill a man with the power of his brain that one time. He wants to keep him. And study him.
Obi just. Comes with category 5 clingers.

Wikipedia's article for the Zimbabwean War of Independence is really bad. For starters, it insists on being titled "The Rhodesian Bush War", which is like if the article for the American Civil War was titled "The War of Northern Aggression". It is an explicitly partisan name, and one partisan in favour of the white supremacist faction.

I noticed something that never comes up in the discussion of whether it was wrong of the Jedi to fight in the clone wars (surprisingly from both the Pro Jedi and antijedidiot camps) is that the separatists want all the Jedi dead
Like even aside from that being implied by the separatists being controlled by the sith, Count Dooku and General Grievous explicitly state that they're in this to kill the Jedi, their idea for how the war goes is inseparable from the mass murder of the Jedi
(and it's not like anyone else in the separatists are against it, most of the military leaders are only slightly less murderous psychopaths than Dooku and Grievous, the corporate leaders hate the Jedi for always ruining their "get even richer" schemes so they won't protest, and the civilians and political leaders of the separatists are powerless)
Being neutral and staying out of the war was never an option for the Jedi, one side's goal was to murder them

“The British would’ve called the Founding Fathers terrorists.”
Tumblr media
Speculation. The British did not and could not have called the Founding Fathers terrorists because that was not a word or concept at the time of the American Revolutionary War. This is a made up “what if” scenario with no historical basis.
Irrelevant. Whether the Crown would have called American Revolutionaries “terrorists” has no relevance to whether modern day acts of terrorism are terrorism.
What we “call terrorism” today is people strapping bombs to themselves and their children to blow up buses, hijacking planes to fly them into buildings, shooting up schools, music venues, and places of worship, randomized violence against non-military targets, taking civilians hostage. We call these terrorism because they fit the bill of terrorism by nearly every possible definition of the word:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The American Revolutionaries’ guerrilla-esque tactics may have been seen by the British as “unfair” or “uncivilized”, but they were not terrorism. Shooting up music venues, beheading & mutilating civilian victims by hand, hunting down and executing children, and taking hostages are not comparable to ambushing troops in the woods.
