“Doll, stop tugging at the dress,” Steve tuts. “You look beautiful tonight. Let’s head downstairs. Our guests are waiting for us.”

“The dress is beautiful, but I feel like a whale,” you huff and look down at your body. “I’m getting bigger…”

Bucky puts his hand on your swollen belly from behind. “You’re getting even more beautiful, Y/N.”

You look in the mirror again. Bucky is right, you look stunning in the gown they chose for you.

“Even a princess would fade in the background next to you,” Steve tries to get you to follow them. They decided to throw a party to celebrate your pregnancy and wedding.

You bite the inside of your cheek. The last time you felt like a princess, the night ended terribly. So, this time you are afraid to even let yourself appreciate the beautiful woman in the mirror who stares back at you. 

The ceremony was beautiful, and you are more than happy to carry Steve and Bucky’s babies. Still, you are afraid of the future.

Can your feelings and love last in their world? What if anyone wants to ruin what you built with your husbands?

“What’s on your mind, pretty doll?” Bucky whispers in your ear. His eyes meet yours in the mirror. “What’s wrong?”

“I’m scared, and…I don’t know. I love what we have, and the babies but…” you sniffle. “I can’t help it. I’m afraid to lose it all. With Scott…I didn’t care if things would end. It’s different now.”

Steve cups your face to press a soft kiss to your temple. “Baby, we won’t leave you. You’re our wife. No matter what the law says. You are ours, and we are yours.”

“It’s not—” you choke on tears. “You or Bucky. I’m scared that other people will try to ruin everything for us.”

“Is this about Rumlow?” Steve softly asks. “We told you to not worry about him. He’ll never get close to you or our babies. Before we let him get close to you, we will break every bone in his rotten body.”

“Steve!” Bucky grumbles. “We do not discuss such a matter in front of our lovely, pregnant wife.”

Steve ignores his husband’s comment. “I tried to calm our wife. She needs to know that we won’t let anything happen to her, or our children. Not now, not ever.”

“What about you two? Can you promise me that you won’t get hurt?” You sniff. “I cannot lose you.”

“You won’t,” Bucky stops you from crying. He soothingly runs his hand up and down your back and murmurs your name. “We promise. You have us, now and forever.”

You sigh as the mansion is crowded with people you don’t know.

You saw a few familiar faces. The blonde geek your husband’s hired to take care of the new security system, or Sam, one of their confidants.

“Buck, can you hold my water?” you whisper in Bucky’s ear. “I need to pee.” He chuckles when you tell him that one of the babies must lie on your bladder. “I’ll be right back.”

“Do you want me to come with you,” he dips his head to look at you. Bucky wiggles his eyebrows and gives you this smile making you go weak in the knees.

“Not with all the people around, you horny dog.” You playfully swat his chest. “Maybe after they are gone you can follow me to the bathroom.”

“Lemme kick them out,” he murmurs. “We can go down and dirty right now.” Bucky hopefully looks in Steve’s direction, but the blonde shakes his head.

“He always says no but ends up filled with cock,” Bucky says more to himself than you. “I can’t wait to get my hands on both of you tonight. My husband, and my wife.”

Not months ago, you wouldn’t have dared to dream of having two husbands and a baby.

Here you are, standing in front of the mirror to look at yourself with new eyes. The reflection in the mirror smiles back at you as you run your hand over your swollen belly.

“How far are you?” You flinch when a woman suddenly stands behind you. You turn around to look at her. She balls her hands into fists and glares at you. “You didn’t waste time, huh? Last time I didn’t get the chance to find anything out for him.”

“It’s you,” she’s got a barely healed scar on her right cheek, her hair is shorter and black now, but it’s undoubtedly the nurse from your gynecologist's practice. “What are you doing here? How’d you get inside?”

“Easy,” she scoffs while sliding a knife out of her arm sleeve. “I simply pretended that I belonged to the catering team.”

She takes one step toward you, and you take two back. You curse yourself for not bringing your handbag. Now you don’t have a weapon, except for the hand soap on the washbasin.

“What do you want here?” You try to sound confident, but you are scared. Not only for your life but the babies in your belly.

“Because of you and your men he punished me,” she sneers and runs her fingers over the scar on her cheek.

“And yet you come here,” you sidestep her. If you can reach the door you can scream for help. You keep an eye on her while trying to figure out your next step. “Why? If he hurt you, you should’ve run for the hills, not come here into the lion’s den.”

“You know nothing about me!” She snarls and takes another step toward you. “If I kill you now, and cut the bastards out of you, he’ll forgive me…he must forgive me…”

“Please just…”

“Y/N, down,” Bucky doesn’t have to say more. You crouch down and crawl away just in time. He flings a knife at her, piercing her neck.

She drops to her knees, making gurgling sounds. While she struggles to breathe, you curl into a ball, daring not to look at her.

“Buck, Y/N,” Steve storms into the bathroom to find you on the ground, and the nurse dead. “What happened?”

“She…she wanted to kill me and the babies,” you choke out between heavy breaths. “Bucky came…he came…”

“Doll!” Bucky steps over the nurse’s dead body. He easily lifts you in his arms, cradling you against his warm chest. “Did she hurt you? Baby?”

“No…” you sniffle and hide your face in his chest. “She said Rumlow gave her the scar.” Your voice trembles, but you try to give them as much information as possible. “She failed and he punished her.”

“Rumlow,” Steve spats. “He’s dead. We should’ve taken him down like a feral dog a long time ago. His time is running out.”

“I think you should find out who she is,” you lift your head to look at Steve. “It’s important. She could be important, Steve.”

“Consider it done, baby doll.”

“How did you know I’m in trouble, Bucky?” you question. Bucky drops his gaze, ashamed.

“I didn’t know,” he murmurs. “I came here to seduce you.”

“Bucky,” you softly say. “You couldn’t know.” You cup his face and make him look at you. “You saved me because you’re a damn horny dog.” Putting a brave face on, you smirk. “And I love you for being who you are.”

“How did she even get into the house?” Steve grunts. “We have more security than the goddamn white house!”

“The catering service,” you murmur. “She pretended to be one of them.“

“FUCK!” Steve slams his fist into the tile wall. “We shouldn’t have planned a party. That bastard almost got her, and our babies killed.”

"Steve, your hand!" You gasp seeing Steve's bloody knuckles. "I need to check on you."

“Well, Natasha had her chance,” Steve says while cracking his neck. “Now it’s hunting season…”

Ashlyn Gere

An extremely popular adult movie star of the 1990's, Ashlyn actually appeared in several B-movies during the 1980's before her adult career including Evil Laugh and Creepozoids. Her mainstream work also included being a body double in the films Basic Instinct and Indecent Proposal and landing bit parts on network television shows such as playing Feliciti OH in Space: Above and Beyond, appearances on the X-Files, Silk Stalkings and Millennium. All this while she was still working the adult film business. Her adult career included around 150 films, which lead to dozens of nominations and wining nearly 20 major adult industry awards such as the FOXE, XRCO and AVN Awards. In the latter half of the 1990s, she slowed down on her adult video work and mainly toured as an exotic dancer.

Sister's Mercy

When Jacaera exchanges her vows with her brother, a vision in blue tulle and white lace. Alysanne makes herself watch even if her heart jackhammers in her chest, her breath caught in her throat as if parched. Under the altar with Alicent's reluctant blessing, Jacaera exchanges her vows with Alysanne's brother, Aegon. She condemns herself with a simple “I do.”

Alysanne stares at the two. She thinks she hates him and loathes her.

Jacaera is an idiot, a stupid little girl who doesn't know what she just stumbled herself into. Aegon had been bad enough as a boyfriend, a husband, he wasn't cut out for.

When the two newlyweds kiss, the crowd is unpleasantly witness to Aegon's lust and gluttony, he practically swallows Jacaera in a kiss, the poor girl pinkening as it draws on. By the time Aegon pulls away, satisfied, Alicent's nails dig into Alysanne's wrist and Rhaenyra looks like she might murder Aegon before the day is over. Jacaera's lips are swollen and just shy of indecent, Alysanne turns her head away. She knows she'll have dreams of her tonight.

The festivities are thankfully drab, Alysanne is pulled from room to room to micromanage alongside her mother to manage any of the minor errors that go on and fix them quickly enough that neither of the newlyweds is informed. A wedding photographer getting stuck in traffic—Helaena is given Alysanne's professional camera and told to take as many photos as she can. She always did have an eye for this, her photos of bugs and insects, of friends and family, hanging over her studio. Jace's brother Luke becomes sick with a nasty stomach bug—a trip to the pharmacy twenty minutes away and a receipt of fifteen pounds later, the boy is pale but he's not likely to throw up on anyone so Alysanne counts it as a win even if she did want to slap the idiot.

All those little inconsistencies and mistakes are brushed up and worked around as best as they can. Nearing the end of the night, Alysanne is exhausted and almost forgetful over what it is that they're celebrating.

But she can't.

Jacaera is married to her brother and Alysanne can do nothing but watch, heart breaking even if she denies it.

She's drinking herself hoarse when the two take off from the reception, lost in each other. Or more like Aegon being lost in Jacaera and Jacaera trying to keep things PG with her family present.

Helaena watches her from the sides, worried and intent on cutting her intake once she reaches her limit. "I can't believe she said yes," Alysanne mutters under her breath.

"Aegon has been her boyfriend since she was fifteen, Aly," Helaena reminds her. "Of course, she said yes." Aegon had always enjoyed the benefits of Jacaera's puppy crush on him when they were younger, when the girl started slipping away, watching others instead, he'd become almost rabid in his attempt to gain her back.

At fifteen, Jacaera had dated her share of guys and girls before settling with their brother, 20. No one expected them to last as long as they did. No one expected them to tie the knot either, four years later.

If anything, Helaena predicted the marriage would hardly last the year with Aegon's womanizing ways and Jacaera's inability to turn the other way. She was always more firm with Aegon. If she found him with another in bed, after the drama of the past few years of his crazy side pieces, Helaena thinks her niece would end it.

Jacaera had seemed tired the last time, when she found him in bed with her baby brother’s babysitter. She doesn't know why she said yes to Aegon's proposal but she had.

It seems even Jacaera's family wonders with Baela's reluctance to be Jace's maid of honor and the way the family watched for any mistake on Aegon's part throughout the engagement. They found nothing that warrants their anxiety, Alysanne had done damage control for her mother.

Aegon's mistresses were paid off and a few of his children were sent to live with their mother's relatives if their mother's proved too stubborn.

"He doesn't know how to treat her," she spitefully states.

"I know," Helaena turns her head to watch the newlyweds leave. She's dressed in a pale blue dress with butterflies embroidered into the fabric, her eyeshadow is blue and black and her earrings are dolphins with diamond eyes. She'd been one of Jacaera's ladies and had witnessed her share of the troubles between the newlyweds.

"I give it a year," she eventually says. Alysanne stops wallowing in the whiskey to look at her, "you really think they'll last the year?"

She's drunk and her breath smells, Helaena wrinkles her nose.

"No, she'll wait a year before she starts the procedure."

Helaena's hands lay on the back of Alysanne's green strapless dress. "Let's go, you need rest."

The two sisters leave, and neither of them notice the small silver haired child walking out from where they were just standing.

Viserys tilts his hand, he thinks that Aegon would be lucky if Jace gave him a year.

Helaena proves to be right, only a little off. A year and two months after Jacaera and Aegon married, Jace starts the divorce proceedings.

Alysanne is witness to Aegon's fits of anger and the violence he unleashes on the girls he brings back home, having moved back in after he and Jace split.

Jace knows Aegon well and his affairs come to light due to pesky journalists.

She gets everything and ruins him in the process, even taking his surname Targaryen as less than a year after her divorce, Viserys—Alysanne and Aegon's father—dies and Rhaenyra takes over the estates and businesses he left her.

Mother tries to fight her in court, drawing up support from years she spent cultivating and some of the best lawyers but Rhaenyra had predicted that—or maybe her husband or past mother-in-law had and after two years of court battles—Rhaenyra wins. She gets most of what Viserys left in her will but Alicent won on the front that some of it be provided to her children. Alysanne gets a flat with the money she got, Aegon gets a home and money to fund his lifestyle, Helaena sells the estate she gained back to Rhaenyra and uses the money to buy a bigger studio for her artwork and Daeron is given an estate in the Reach—Oldstones—and funds. None of them are given any of the businesses, that is left to Rhaenyra and her side of the family.

Alysanne proves herself enough that she's given a probationary position as an employee at one of Daemon's businesses, a tech start-up. Through it all, as she slowly climbs her way to floor manager, she keeps bumping into Jacaera.

After the divorce and inheritance battle, Jacaera ended up better than she would've had she stayed married to Aegon.

She's a junior analyst at Stark Industries—unrelated to any Targaryen business branch—and works long hours, often taking her lunches with her stepfather or one of her brothers. Alysanne resents her.

She's the apple of the media's eye and if gossip rags prove right, is in a committed relationship with an unknown man.

She's doing better and seems to have recovered well from the divorce.

Alysanne can still remember the bruises Jacaera had the night she turned up at her flat, all of it from Aegon. She'd been a mess back then and three years later, she doesn't resemble that woman at all—the one that cried into Alysanne's shoulder and almost begged to be touched.

Alysanne had her taste of Jacaera during those few weeks she recovered from the injuries; pretty long legs wrapped around her waist and that pink tongue Jacaera knew how to use well. Heat spreads from Alysanne's core and she ignores it as she writes her report to HR about an incident between two of the employees.

Jacaera had disappeared after her bruises had faded into a sickly yellow and pale green.

The next time Alysanne saw her in person, she would be divorced and accompanying her mother in court.

She guesses that Jacaera had put an end to it all that day, no more secret romps between them and no more sleepy kisses shared.

Alysanne got the message. She just hates it.

Jacaera rubs her back as she unlocks her front door and Vermax comes out to greet her. She stays in the hallway for a while, petting her girl before she hears footsteps and looks up to find Luke in her doorway.

"Long night?" He asks, moving to help her with her bags.

She nods, tired. "Cregan wants the meeting between the shareholders to go off without a hitch. I've been staring at spreadsheets all day," she laughs, a little out of it.

Luke waits for her to sit on the couch before massaging her back, pulling a particularly hard knot that has Jace moaning softly. He presses a kiss to her shoulders before continuing.

By the time he's done, Jace is a puddle of goop, but Luke knows her best and leaves to come back with a plate of warm food. Jacaera digs into the food—rice with chicken and a side of yesterday's leftover ribs—as Luke flicks through channels on the TV before settling on some crime show as his hand wraps around her leg.

She finishes before setting the plate on the coffee table, and laying her head on his shoulder. They share a kiss before they turn in for the night.

The next morning, Jace wakes up naked, well spent from last night and alone, Luke having gotten up early for work.

She lays there for a moment before getting up to shower and get dressed. Another day of spreadsheets and looking over documents await her.

She doesn't notice a pale figure moving in her home as she leaves.

When Jacaera gets back home, at two in the morning, having stayed after hours to help Cregan and Sara with a mix up from an intern and later, getting dinner with the two siblings, she's exhausted. She can't wait to lay in her bed and cuddle with Luke.

Jace slips her shoes off in the doorway before putting on her slippers and walks towards the nearest bathroom. She's taking off her makeup with wipes when she feels arms wrap around her middle, peeking up to see a disheveled, sleepy Luke.

"You're late," he whispers into her neck. Jace nods, she doesn't have the energy to say much back.

"How bad was it?" He asks, pressing kisses to her cheek and shoulders.

"Really bad... an intern caused a mistake and Cregan was so close to losing it. Sara was really the MVP today." She lays her head against his chest, watching as his hands slip into her pants.

He cups her cunt and Jace wants but she's too tired for this tonight. She bats at his hands and Luke reluctantly pulls away.

"Tired," she mumbles and he understands. He helps her finish her skincare routine before pulling her to bed and cuddling against her.

A figure watches them from their shared closet.

Alysanne slips out once their breaths slow and she's sure they're asleep. She takes a photo of the two, placing Luke's hand against Jace's neck, tightening her hand around it. She wants to kill him.

She wants to hurt her.

But Alysanne has waited years, she can wait a little more.

Jace sleeps in her car after the meeting's over, having lost sleep and exhausted beyond compare. The last time she felt this dreadful had been during her divorce.

Back then, she'd confided in Alysanne in her misery. It had proved to be for naught. The woman abhorred her brother, Jace's sweet, annoying Luke.

She can't blame her. Luke had taken Aly's eye during a tussle over a fencing sword when they were children. Her disdain for her brother wasn't something Jacaera could ignore for long, however.

When she slipped into Luke's bed that first time, she felt ashamed as if she had betrayed Aly somehow, by sleeping with her brother. She hadn't even felt like that when she was with Aegon.

It's been years since she ended things with Alysanne but Jacaera still held a piece of her heart open to the woman then. Now, Jace sleeps with a V necklace over her chest, Luke's gift for her twenty-fourth. A pretty thing of sapphires and diamonds, a matching set of earrings in her vanity.

She sleeps as Alysanne rummages in the back of her car. Her eye lingers on her breasts and that necklace.

Luke is bold, she would give him that. But Jacaera was Alysanne's before she'd been Aegon's and Luke's.

Jacaera notices that one of her blue stockings is missing after she spends twenty minutes trying to find the matching pair. She thinks nothing of it, changing into a white pair instead.

It'll probably show up when she least expects it. Or maybe Vermax would bring it as an offering, wagging her tail in delight.

She hurries as Luke and Rhaena wait for her at her doorstep. She leaves before they can be any more late to their reservation, Baela waiting at the place already.

Alysanne slips out of the walk-in closet, silver hair left to run freely down her back.

Vermax barks at her and Alysanne makes a face before locking her out.

Hmmm, let’s think about stuff that another Anon suggested…

Momo feels like another option for busty girls, but I don’t think Malleus would be very into this one. Not because it’s revealing (that too, unless she’s feeling playful of course…), but because the style feels too off for her. A big loss! Sebek also wouldn’t do it, unless she has to wear it just so Malleus isn’t forced to. For Malleus’ sake..!

It would fit Jade more than Floyd I think, but Jade would play a fake-ass “I am so shy what if I won’t get married after such an indecency” card. Now of all times?? Previous ones were okay with her…

For some reason I feel like it would look good on Leona or Jack as well.

But I also kind of want to make some of the smaller-sized girls wear it as well. I picked Jamil last time, so this time let’s go with poor Idia. It would feel like a sick joke to her though…

Raiden is a bit easier, even though she also has a boob window and is on a bustier side. Colour-wise, it’s only fair to suggest Vil, and even though Vil prefers longer skirts, she wouldn’t mind highlighting her long legs with those stocking. She would probably adjust the costume a little bit to suit her taste though lol I guess it also makes sense because Pomefiore dorm uniform has a little bit of a kimono-esque look…

Technically, the colour is also similar to Octavinelle, so maybe Azul would also be a good pick, but once again, ain’t no way she’s doing it for free lol

Deuce would also look very good, but feel extremely shy wearing it. It would make her inner delinquent come out, just because she’d try to hide her embarrassment. But also you know, maybe the rest of the stargazers would look good in it too (Idia and Trey). It’s nothing like their stargazers outfits, but there is something about the vibe…

And another thought but how do you think a 20 year reunion would look like? Assuming no one ended up in a relationship with each other, at least not a permanent one but have rekindled feeling when they meet again (mostly because I like the thought of duece being the dad to twin daughters; adorable. and who ever tries to get with him afrer said reunion having to win over very over protective girls who are ready to protect their dad's "innocent" from pervy old men. Que them acting like little punks when duece isn't watching but little angels when he is)

Ace does have rizz sometimes, that’s true! He is not completely hopeless lol And despite us constantly pushing him under the bus (unintentionally!!), we believe he is a charmer sometimes and he does have both charisma (sleazy) and this willingness to do something good for another person (genuine). I feel like whenever they are together with Riddle away from their dorm and other people in it, they don’t argue as much…. somehow.

I honestly believe Ace has it in him to charm Malleus somehow, but maybe it’s just me wanting to have this extremely surprising for everyone involved scenario lol Everyone would be so shocked..!! I think it would take some time for his dormmates to wrap their heads around this whole thing, and whenever they would see them together, it would feel like they’re seeing it for the first time. Can never get used to it..! What if Malleus starts visiting their dorm?? “Oh, he is here for Ace” that’s insane… Sounds like a premise of a sitcom episode, to be honest lol

I think Deuce would get jealous and feel weird about it though. Maybe he should bond with Sebek because of that lol Deuce would mumble that Ace is going to make a fool of himself and that this whole thing doesn’t make sense, and Sebek is going to yell about Ace being an insolent fool who doesn’t understand how lucky he is.

In general, I think this is one of the situation when the entire school is going to talk about it. Even those who aren’t into drama and gossip would talk about it. Azul and Idia would talk about it. Vil and Rook would talk about it. The teachers would talk about it. Everyone would feel like this is some kind of a joke until they actually see the two walking together or even, gasp, hugging..!

Lilia would be the only one in the entire school who isn’t really surprised: of course, Ace is kind of a weird pick, but hey, the guy is spunky and entertains Malleus with his card tricks and all! And then Malleus creates cards out of thin air with his magic and fills the entire room with them… Isn’t it cute? Puppy love!

The only downfall is that Lilia would have to threaten everyone just so this information doesn’t escape the NRC walls. The political implications of Malleus’ college romance are too much...

I also love reunions and the idea of rekindling feelings 20 years later! But I also feel like this is just too big of a topic with all the possible ships… Ace and Deuce fit that scenario quite nicely though, should I write a hc list for them or any other ship?

The only thing is, I can’t really do anything with the twin daughters scenario :( While it does sound cute (and like an another sitcom scenario lol), scenarios with characters being parents (and those that focus on their kids especially) aren’t really my cup of tea. Apologies for that!

Argentina is heading into the presidential runoff on November 19 with a rapidly declining economy. The country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has remained stagnant for the past three months, while inflation has skyrocketed to over 142% since last year. A quarter of the population lives in poverty, and parents who each earn the minimum wage can’t cover basic household expenses for a family of four. The foreign exchange market is muddled by multiple dollar exchange rates, and the Central Bank’s reserves have been cut in half over the last four years. On top of all this, Argentina is burdened with a $44 billion debt to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Argentines are hopeful that their next president will bring an end to their struggles, but the two candidates have radically different approaches. One is an economist who promises to take a chainsaw to the public budget, and the other is the current Minister of Economy with a more cautious plan.

The Peronist coalition candidate, Sergio Massa, has been in charge of managing the economy for about a year, and many wonder what he will do differently as president. The Peronist coalition blames the deepening crisis on a historic drought that has led to $20 billion in losses. They also cite the impact of the pandemic and the IMF debt assumed by former president Mauricio Macri. Ultra-libertarian Javier Milei blames the crisis on a fiscal policy of excessive money creation and has proposed dollarizing the economy to tackle rampant inflation. He also wants to radically cut public spending. Economists all over the world have criticized Milei’s ideas as dangerous for Argentina.

Gross Domestic Product

The GDP of the second-largest South American economy declined by 4.9% in the second quarter of 2023 compared to the same period last year. Argentina’s economy has been stagnant for many years, and only saw growth in 2013, 2015 and 2017. In other years, the economy actually contracted. During President Alberto Fernández’s first year in office (which coincided with the start of the pandemic), GDP dropped by 9.9%. In 2021, GDP rebounded briefly and then began to sink again. According to an IMF report, the country’s $22,000 per capita GDP in 2022 is 9% lower than it was a decade ago.

Inflation

The monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) provides the country with information about inflation and the erosion of their purchasing power. In October, the inflation rate rose by 8.3% over September and reached a record 142.7%, the highest rate in 30 years. In South America, only Venezuela has a higher inflation rate than Argentina. In 2015, when Mauricio Macri became president, inflation stood at 25%. By the time he left office four years later, it had doubled to 54%. Today, the inflation rate has nearly tripled, and unofficial forecasts indicate it will spike to 185% by the end of the year.

Poverty

Four in 10 Argentines live in poverty, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC). Poverty increased during the Macri (2015-2019) and Fernández administrations. The latest poverty data for the second half of 2023 indicates that it’s the highest since early 2021, after a year of pandemic. The poverty rate is even worse among the country’s youth, with 56% of people under 15 living in poverty, and 9.3% of the population doesn’t earn enough to buy food. With a minimum wage of 146,000 pesos ($415 at current exchange rates) in November, twice that amount is insufficient to cover basic needs (food, transportation, clothing, etc.) for a household with two adults and two minors.

Unemployment

The unemployment rate has improved in Argentina, but the country has a precarious labor market with falling wages due to inflation. President Fernández took office with an 8.9% unemployment rate, which decreased to 6.2% in the second quarter of 2023 according to INDEC. Young people aged 14-29 were most affected, with unemployment rates of 13.4% for women and 12.3% for men. Unlike previous quarters, the recent drop in unemployment was due to fewer jobseekers and not an increase in the number of jobs, which remained flat.

Peso exchange rates

The parity between the Argentine peso and the U.S. dollar came to an end after the 2002 “corralito” banking crisis, when the government imposed limits on cash withdrawals to prevent a bank run. Prior to this, there was a legally fixed exchange rate. Today, there are multiple exchange rates in Argentina due to tightened exchange restrictions since 2011. Back then, the dollar was pegged to 4.3 pesos, while the unofficial “blue dollar” traded for 4.6 pesos on the street.

By the time Fernández took office in December 2019, the exchange rate was 62 pesos per dollar. It’s now 369 pesos per dollar, after being fixed at 365 for three months. The gap between the official and unofficial exchange rates is now greater than 160%, with a street value of 950 pesos for one blue dollar.

Central Bank reserves

The government has tried to prop up the peso by intervening in the foreign exchange market, which has depleted the Central Bank’s limited foreign reserves. Gross reserves have declined by 53% in the past year, down to $20.9 billion, according to the Central Bank. But other economists who have analyzed the country’s net reserves (the readily available foreign currency held by the Central Bank) tell a different story, although the Central Bank disputes their estimates. When Fernández took office, the Central Bank’s reserves were estimated at $12 billion. Four years later, these experts say the country has a $10 billion deficit in foreign reserves. Argentina has long suffered from a chronic foreign currency deficit, exacerbated in 2023 by a severe drought that severely affected the agricultural sector, which accounts for 70% of the country’s foreign currency inflows.
