But seriously I’m only one here who doesn’t feel a ton sorry for Satoru? I know satoru getting assaulted by Yukie is wrong and there no excuse for that.

But kind of don’t totally blame her. I mean Satoru treated y/n shit for 5 years straight and all of a sudden one drunken night spent together she get pregnant and he all of sudden started to treat her well and just gave her some human decency and wanted to work on and fix his marriage. 5 years of marriage of hating her and being a ass to her when she didn’t nothing wrong to him and didn’t want this marriage either. Now she get pregnant and gave a preterm birth to their son because he was still mad about her and complaining about her too! When she treat him so well even tho he was ass to her. She still cook for him, getting him his favourite treats, running his bath for him meanwhile he still treats her badly and doesn’t feel guilty about it until when a baby is involved and their both nearly lose their lives. Now he all guilty about how he treats her and cheating on her.

He was all like I’m suffering too! Like bitch how exactly? She didn’t abuse you or cheat on you, insults you or didn’t avoid your existence etc. All you had was You don’t know how much pressure I take just because of that Fucking marriage and everyday that I woke, another constant nagging from these bastards of higher ups, I’m getting so, so tired and I just want to….

And that it nothing about y/n behaviour or how she treats him. He just seems to hate her because he was forced to get married despite she didn’t want this either. So he taking all of hatred on her because he can.

So I can’t really blame Yukie here because imagine how your lover who seems to hate his wife with every fibre and inch of his body that he was forced to marry.All a sudden decided to stop hating her and want to fix their marriage?? Because of one night stand and she gets pregnant??? Now you want to gave this marriage a shot because a baby is involved now??? 5 years of hatred and resentment is suppose gone now? And you’re telling the woman who you didn’t want to let go of. Once she found out you’re married man because you told her that you really love her and not your wife. You love her so much that a year ago you promised to her that you would leave your wife for her and in the present you were still seeing her even when you find out that your wife was pregnant with your baby. You were devoted yourself to her just 2 weeks ago. Only just when you think your wife and baby are going to die. You want to suddenly stop seeing her and fix your marriage just like that.

anyway, let's get serious about this. i've read a lot of these things about how satoru should not end up with the reader and how he deserves bad things for doing this or that. i've also seen a lot of comments about satoru suddenly changing.

i think it's time for me to drop some hints, facts, and a lil spoiler about mind over matter. take note, this is long so pls bare w/ me.

background facts about mind over matter

i created this ff because i really love the song entitled mind over matter by young the giants and got really inspired by its meaning. if you listen to the song, you'll get a hint because that song literally describes the trope between satoru and the reader, at least.

this story has a lot of psychological and philosophical theories (i think this is a perk of being a psychology student?? lol) and ideologies because this is the life we lived in. although this story is purely made by the fragments of imagination, there's still a chance that this occurs in real life. and i only think rational and logical.

the end

OKAY IMMA START WITH THIS CUZ A LOT OF Y'ALL WANTED THE READER AND SATORU WOULD NOT END UP TOGETHER

ahem, so i know most of y'all are angry at our boy and i understand that. however, i hope you are not forgetting that this is an x reader sooo...

nah im just kidding! there are still some x readers where the ships doesn't end up together—i've actually done this once and it's on the 'the end', a gojo satoru angst oneshot. but does that mean im going to use that ending on this mind over matter? we'll see.

i actually already plotted the ending and after see y'all's comments, i don't think you all are going to like it, i'm afraid. but nevertheless, i will still try my best to make the best of it. so i hope you won't get angry nor disappointed in me :((

and lastly, i will based the ending on how the reader and satoru perceived the tragedy happened in chapter 5. do you get the hint???

satoru's hate trail

satoru was getting a lot of hate because he did some nasty things to the reader like cheat, emotionally abuse, neglect, argue, ect. i would be angry too because i do not tolerate these kind of acts. but if we become a person who has holistic perspective (meaning in my own words: by being objective, we look on both sides before making a judgement), no matter how much we hate this person, we had to see his side. which in this case, we still hadn't see his story completely.

here's a hint about satoru's side: think of yourself as someone who literally carries the safety of the world and is in constant pressure to the point of you developing a fear of failing and losing. you are in a state of big actions comes into a bigger responsibility. what would you feel? what would you do to escape this bullshit reality?

satoru got manifested a maladaptive coping mechanism. this is where people use strategies to manage stress, anxiety, or difficult emotions that may provide short-term relief but ultimately worsen the situation or create additional problems. in this case, satoru was in a constant pressure and stress because of expectation as being the strongest, plus, the things happened during his childhood till adolescence adds fuel to the fire. then this marriage came and satoru loses his mind because he thought someone was controlling him, which we all know, is not.

he never meant to hurt the reader or do those things. that was only the results of his maladaptive coping mechanism. some of the scenarios of this mechanism involves distraction, avoidance, and overcommitment could be observed. he does the things he doesn't wanted to do just to ignore what is happening. BUT that doesn't mean WE are going to let this or HIM slide, yeah?

personally, i don't hate satoru that much in this story even if let's just say im not the author. i know he was such a bad guy and even if he change, there's still a history left behind. but since i'm someone who trained themselves to have a deep understanding and patience, especially that i'm a psychology student, i know satoru would eventually get what he deserve both in good and bad way.

the marriage

now let's talk about marriage, let's see what satoru and reader feel about it:

on the reader, she doesn't want it because it deprives her from chosing what she really wants for herself, like finding someone to marry on your own. but growing up in a clan where your moves are limited and no matter how shitty they were, you couldn't tear yourself away from them. the readers are lacking of validation and support from their own blood—that explains why she still in for this marriage because she still hasn't realize that she can receive what she is searching aside from her family.

on satoru, he doesn't want it too. he feels like this is suffocating him even though the reader did not show any interest on hurting him. but little did y'all know, satoru was looking for someone to blame for all of the things that happened to him. and guess what? he blames it on the closest involved, which are you and the higher-ups. this behavior is called scapegoating. this involves unfairly pointing blame or responsibility to an innocent individual, often to deflect attention from the true source of the problem or to avoid personal accountability.

but what makes the marriage stay intact for over 5 years? easy, they both ran away from addressing the real issue.

i know i've mentioned in one of the chapters that the marriage was on the verge of getting divorced. but the reason for that is because despite all of their personal challenges that greatly affects the marriage, they somehow found themselves into the comfort of their circle. meaning, they still hold on to the very last string of hope that everything could still be fine.

the reader's resiliency

the reader could've divorce satoru long long ago. but what stops her from doing so? simple, her family and empathy for satoru.

it was actually supposed to be sympathy for satoru. but there is a great difference between sympathy and empathy. let's break it down for a lil time. sympathy is where you're acknowledging another person's emotional hardships and providing comfort and assurance. while empathy is you are deeply understanding and sharing another person's feelings and experiences.

here's an example. the scenario is that your friend loses their pet: sympathy, "i'm so sorry for your loss. losing a pet must be really hard." and then empathy, "i understand how hard it is to lose a pet. i know the pain you're going through. let me know how can i support you."

see the difference? good.

ok, enough with the philosophy lesson. this may sound idk, confusing? but this is what the reader feels about satoru as of chapter 5, she had lost her faith in him as her husband but she trusted him a lot as her fellow sorcerer. she understands what he has been going through, and it's a little incomparable to her situation. the reader's back only carries her family, while satoru carries the whole world.

that was the leading reason why despite all of those things that happened, she possesses a deep understanding, patience, and support to the man even if it would destroy her in the process.

our reader is a hero, she's a tough woman. so we cannot just say that she should leave the guy and for another man when she's still not ready to let go of her principles inside this marriage. but of course, we would see what would happen next on the following chapters.

the mistress

i intended to make yukie michiga as an admirable woman. i've actually never seen a fanfiction yet where the third party is not aware that their partner was taken. so maybe, that's why i made her that.

but love blinded us all. we are the victims of love. an own witness of a broken down affair.

i actually love the character i made for yukie michiga. she was a fruit of a harsh reality that no matter how well you are as a person, there's still other factors that would destroyed you and forces you to cross the path you don't plan to.

yukie was against the idea of satoru cheating on you with her. she really tried her best to stop the affair but the love and selfishness wins.

satoru has lots of hook-ups and one night stands from before. but he decided to settle to yukie because he couldn't get enough. that's why her love grow and grow until it overflowed, and now, the self she was before has drowned and the corpse of her has comes to life.

kazuki, the baby

i don't have anything to say on our little sunshine who's unaware of his surroundings but he is the ray of hope for the reader and satoru.

satoru doesn't actually hate the baby even if he shown signs of not wanting the child but he really doesn't hate it. well in fact, he thinks that despite the baby is the fruit of two drunk and impulsive action, kazuki was innocent.

but the reader is innocent too? so why would satoru hate her? we'll never know.

anyway, kazuki be kazuki. he's a cute of mixture of the reader and satoru. since he's a preterm, i cannot say much yet on his appearance. but y'all are too lucky cuz imma say; his hair comes from you, his eyes are from satoru ofc, his complexity hmm maybe satoru? but yeahhh, so sorry i sucked at genes but y'all can think what does kazuki looked like as long as it's adorable cuz he's adorable!

nanami?!

nanami was just a good friend for both the reader and satoru. he's good in his own and he's really helpful to those he held dearly, and that would stay that way.

sudden change

but lemme asked you, can you handle a guilt and conscience when its other's life we're talking about?

in satoru's defense, this whole incident from the pregnancy complication serves as a biggest slap into his face, the coldest water ever drenched in his body, and the highest caffeine in his system—basically, his cue.

i don't remember saying that satoru doesn't really care for you anymore. he still have humanity towards you because deep inside him, he cares for you, but his exteriors tell otherwise. that's probably why ppl are confused and enraged about his instant care.

i think it's my fault for not clarifying it on the chapters so pls do forgive. but heyyy, at least now you know.

if they decide to make daeron a bastard imma scream... aside from the fact that it makes alicent even more of a hypocrite daeron being valyrian looking is actually pretty fucking important. in the books jace and daeron are only a few months apart in age and everyone was like "omg look at the queen giving birth to another targaryen looking baby while the princess had a baby that looks nothing like her or her husband!" also how the heck did daeron get a dragon if he's a bastard!?

first they give us no nettles now possibly this shit... I'm so over them adapting grrm's work into a version of whatever they think is cool.

also who the heck was princess aeriana. ik some folk are saying that it's possibly a made up character before aegon's conquest ... but the targaryen's weren't royalty at that point so wtf are the show makers high on, and i'm still mad at the stupid northern plot where they have jace talking about how aegon the conqueror went up north, plus cregan talking about how alyssane and jaehaerys visited winterfell during his dad's time which again makes zero fucking sense ... it was during alaric stark's time and he's probably cregan's grandpa or smth.

don't get me started on how they switched up addam and alyn's ages, plus didn't give us anything on marilda of hull ... oh and rhaenys apparently is totally cool with corlys having bastards and even thinks the boys mom must have been so pretty ...

this season is so boring and overall without context. daemon spends his time being high on harrenhal. alicent is going through major depressio arc. helaena is her usual mumbling self without any agency of her own. aemond is terrible. rhaenyra is ... idk what they're doing with her but i don't like it. aegon ii seems to be the only remotely interesting character but now he's gone.

so glad there's only one episode left of this disaster to get through ... can't believe they made us wait so long for this shit ... personally won't be waiting for season 3 because at this point it's probably going to be just as boring.

so disappointed we never got to see... jace negotiation with manderly's, sara snow, nettles, rhaenyra going mad with grief over luke, b&c going according to the books with helaena offering herself instead of her children, daeron in oldtown, book! accurate alyn and addam and daemon doing something instead of imagining how it'd be to fuck his mom...

When people tell people that Game of Thrones was slow paced and technically very little happened and this season is just like that and to cope... nope.

As you mentioned in the second to last paragraph there were so many interesting things they could've done with this season to fill the time and expand on the story and characters... Instead there are 3 locations where morning scenes happen that don't grow the characters at all, nobody has any realistic motivations or emotions and reactions to events (and if they do they're framed as incorrect, like Jace or Aegon). It's oversimplified and redundant. No thoughts to be provoked. No depth to explore. No arcs for characters except maybe Daemon but it's been stretched way too far out and made irrelevant. No intrigue or politics. No scheming. Characters seem displaced from the setting...

I hope season 3 is the last season, and I won't be tuning into any other ASOIAF adaptations based on the crap fanfic quality of this one that they're trying to present as profound, deep, groundbreaking television.

Looking into Dazai and Chuuya’s frenemy dynamic-

TW: Suicide mentions/Suicide ideation (packaged deal if Dazai is involved)

Disclaimer: LOTS OF SPOILERS! Spoilers from season 5, 15 arc, and mentions from dead apple. If you’re hoping to find an essay on the soukoku ship, this unfortunately isn’t one because I’ll be taking everything characters say at face value. Also I’m only using information from the anime because unfortunately I haven’t read the written material like further into the manga or the light novels yet. This is just my thoughts and theories so far to address the question, “why can’t Dazai and Chuuya get along?”

Would I say they hate each other? To a degree I would say they definitely dislike one another, but I don’t see either of them wishing calamity upon calamity in the other. Maybe they’ll say it but they won’t mean it. Yet at the same time it’s confirmed in the span of 7 years they still couldn’t enjoy one another’s company. It’s even hard to say if Dazai ever considered Chuuya a friend when in comparison Oda had the most impact on him, and Dazai is even seen to be missing Kunikida’s company. Even after Ango’s betrayal, Dazai is more civil with him than with Chuuya. Then in WAN, Dazai is seen to be reminiscing about his friendship with Oda and Ango fondly, but not Chuuya (or at least from what I’ve seen?).

But I do think they hold some level of respect and appreciation for the other. Atsushi had shown that there needs to be a level of trust in order for double black to be effective as a duo partnership in battle. And when Dazai and Chuuya work together they’re like a well oiled machine. I like to think they both know the other’s capabilities at it’s fullest, making them someone reliable if they’re backed into a corner. For Chuuya, it’s whenever he uses corruption, and Dazai can depend on Chuuya when he has to go up against bigger challenges. So when the other gets tossed around like a rag doll? Of course they’re shocked. They know the other is strong and capable. So if they’re getting their ass handed to them then they know this is serious. They’re each other’s “old reliable” in a sense.

And yet Dazai tells Chuuya to go eat some bullets, while in Chuuya’s first moments of screen time it’s abundantly clear he’s got a bone to pick with the detective. So what gives?

Dazai admits that even though they never could get along, there was moments they understood one another. Imma take this line and run with it-

I think the reason why they seem to understand one another so well is because their struggle is quite similar in nature. Both of them are struggling with the aspect of their humanity. Chuuya struggles through an identity crisis that had haunted him most of his life, trying to understand if he’s human or not. Meanwhile Dazai struggles to even feel human, unable to find reasons to live. Shared struggles tend to bring people together, it’s the reason why group therapy is so effective since it shows people they’re not alone. The problem is that they handle their struggles so differently that it triggers the other.

Dazai is DEPRESSED DEPRESSED. He’s working with a very limited and handicapped source of energy and motivation. Honestly the fact that he’s such a genius is what probably keeps him afloat, otherwise I can’t see him being able to do anything without having a breakdown. He’s doing his best with what he got, sugar coating his suicidal tendencies by “avoiding pain” and “waiting for a beautiful woman to die with.” Otherwise he could easily end it all with a single bullet, yet he hasn’t. Meanwhile Chuuya has always been the type to run into conflicts head first, both literally and figuratively. Dazai must see him as a “try hard,” and gets irritated with how Chuuya is basically running circles with energy left to burn. It’s like a slap to Dazai’s face, like his best isn’t enough. Especially when Chuuya hurls insults at him about his coping mechanisms. Sure it isn’t the best, but like I said, Dazai works with what he has.

Then there’s Chuuya’s perspective, who’s probably frustrated with Dazai’s suicidal tendencies. Dazai is basically his opposite in the exact same struggle, so it could be insulting to Chuuya whenever he sees Dazai ready to roll over and die. Chuuya had always been a fighter, climbing and struggling to keep going. Yet despite all his efforts he always seems to place second after Dazai. Dazai was an executive first, Mori wants Dazai to come back to Port Mafia, and even in confronting Rimbaud, Dazai did it first. Dazai could EASILY run circles around Chuuya, but he doesn’t, which is insulting to Chuuya’s efforts like he isn’t being taken seriously.

I think it just overall boils down to a difference in values and priorities. Even in WAN they make fun of each other’s shopping choices. While Dazai fawns over discounted bandages, Chuuya doesn’t see the point if you can just avoid getting injured in the first place. Chuuya enjoys fine expensive wine, but Dazai just shrugs and says the cheap stuff gets the job done fine.

While Dazai intends to work with what he’s got, Chuuya wants to work for something better. And the clashing of mindsets has the two at each other’s throats.

Of course there’s also the fact Dazai left Port Mafia. And I don’t know about you guys, but personally I’d be pissed if the guy who manipulated and cornered me into joining a crime organization suddenly had the audacity to leave. And while it’s never specified if Chuuya ever learned the reason why Dazai left, I don’t think he’d be happy to hear it either. Sure, Chuuya will sympathize with the loss of a friend, but if Oda’s last wish really made such an impact on Dazai, that basically means their double black partnership doesn’t hold a candle to that friendship. Dazai had essentially chosen Oda over Chuuya. That must sting even just a bit. This is someone you trust with your life, who you fought back to back with, but they still choose someone else. That’s like if your best friend has a different best friend that isn’t you. So I think this extra bit of analysis should hopefully explain why Chuuya looses his temper quicker than Dazai whenever the detective is around.

Anyway these are just my thoughts and theories, of course it can always change if I learn more of the source material such as the manga and light novels. I by no means push that this has got to be canon or anything like that 👍

uhh psa about the last of us

Well I'm replaying The Last of Us and it comes out on Sunday so imma write a little trigger warning list for anyone who might need it bc it is a kinda dark game and the show looks like it's gonna be faithful. Might not all be accurate to the show, but here's how the game goes down. 

I tried to limit the spoilers but i did not do a good job, as there were times I thought it best to be very specific. If you read this you will basically know who dies in the game and how (ie i say ‘x’ happens to the gay man, well, there’s not many main character gay men).

I’d still advise checking out the first paragraph or so if you’re the sort to read trigger warnings

feel free to send me an ask if you want more details on anything, and apologies if i forgot anything

Preface: 

The biggest triggers are gun violence and suicide. They appear a lot throughout the game. There is also an attempted grooming of a child. 

If gun violence or suicide are triggers you probably shouldn’t watch it. The grooming will likely be confined to one episode, which you may be able to simply skip. If you don’t think any of these will bother you at all, maybe best leave this list so you can avoid spoilers, as I’m going to go into a bit more detail for anyone on the fence.

The game is pretty diverse, for a video game at least, which means that there are gay characters, women, and characters of colour being hurt. This is more because this is a story where people get hurt than because of biases of the writers I would say, but it's open to debate. If you’re sick of seeing characters who are like you dying horribly, you might wanna leave it. A lot of people die horribly in this story, including children.

I will specify race, age, gender, and/or sexuality of characters when relevant here. I.e. I think it’s relevant to say when a child specifically is harmed, or a black character specifically is threatened with a gun. I hope this is the correct and respectful way to do this, I’m open to critique.

I am being blunt in my descriptions.

When I say a character is ‘named’, I mean that they’ve been on screen for a bit and the audience probably cares about them.)

Guns and violence:

There are lots of guns, naturally. Not only are zombies shot at but people too, lots of people, by the protag and his allies, and there is an organised militia killing people. 

There is a scene where the character discuss the military deliberately killing masses of unarmed civilians seeking refuge (bodies onscreen).

In the opening scene a soldier shoots and kills a named child. There is a later scene where a named black boy is shot and killed by another named character. 

Joel is notably proficient with killing, and has killed innocents in the past. He frequently kills zombies and gangs trying to hurt him. He may fire first or attack people unaware - this is usually out of self-defence, after being given reason to assume they will hurt him if given the chance. 

There is a scene where Joel threatens to shoot a named defenceless black man. There is a scene where he does shoot and kills an unarmed named black woman. 

A named character once pointed a gun at Joel while visibly very mentally unstable (shock, not mental illness).

There is a scene wherein Joel tortures two unnamed men.

Characters see bodies quite often and find notes from them the player can read. They’re set dressing, they’re just there in the street, a lot of them go unburied, and they also feel like real people due to the notes. 

There is a grave of a very small child. 

Grooming:

A character attempts to groom Ellie while she’s separated from Joel. 

He seems genuinely trustworthy at the start - I liked him when I first played it, and I saw his first untrustworthy moment, wherein he had pretended he didn’t have a gun when he secretly did, as kinda funny/charming. It made sense in context okay

He is genuinely unsettling. Exactly what he wants from Ellie is unspecified. The groomer is also a cult leader and a cannibal, and after she refuses him and breaks his finger he decides to eat her. They have a very violent confrontation.

Suicide:

The named characters committing suicide include a woman (death mostly offscreen, technically was a self-sacrifice but also not really, discussion of her intent onscreen); a gay man (death offscreen, method, body and note onscreen); and a black man (death onscreen).

The first kill of the game, should the player choose to accept it, is a mercy kill of someone who has been infected. 

There is a scene wherein an unnamed man leaves a recorder with his note and also some valuable intel and Joel skips past his note, clearly annoyed at the man, to get to the intel. The man’s body has decomposed to a skeleton and there is a clear hole in his skull.

There was a scene where Joel and Ellie saw the bodies of people who had killed themselves and discussed why people might do it in a post-apocalyptic society - fear of a horrible death, essentially, from zombies, infection, starvation, or gangs. Depression was not mentioned but could be considered implied as a reason - it could be taken as an implication that Joel had considered it before.

Joel finds a note from someone who was hiding children from infected. With no way out, they killed the children, covered the bodies with blankets, and killed themself. The bodies are onscreen.

A named character killed himself as a knee-jerk reaction to the death of a loved one. 

A(n implied) gay man killed himself because he was infected, which I don't think was intended as a parallel to aids but it can be read that way.

Other:

There are moments where the zombies are somewhat humanized - the Fireflies wear dog tags, meaning that after killing a zombie you can sometimes find out their name and figure out who they were. Maybe you even read a letter belonging to them earlier. Idk this is just kinda fucked up, creeped me out.

Death of a horse (onscreen, named, violent)

Animal hunting (for food) 

The zombies are genuinely quite creepy

idk the university holdout kinda upset me, these kids were waiting for people to come for them and no one bothered and now they’ve been dead for years.

finally finished punk hazard straw hats and law alliance so exciting!!!! honestly i know i said it before but laws face is my favorite thing about this arc he probably lost like ten years of his life every time the straw hats were acting like themselves, also everyone knows their captain very well it’s so cute whenever they’re like this is the kind of person luffy hates the most, and telling law that his idea of an alliance is different than luffy's lmao, and smoker also working with them i love him, also so aokiji makes an appearance at the end and him and akainu did that to the island they’re scary. on another note i want to see bepo when do the heart pirates show up!!

I think it’s more than fair and reasonable for creators to have things that they’re uncomfortable with especially with their creations and the spaces they made. Why is that such a problem for you I’m sincerely asking? Everyone has things they’re uncomfortable with and no one wants others to go against those things ya know? Especially when it comes to sexualizing and things like that. And to just say “I don’t care I’m gonna do whatever the fuck I want no one can stop me” feels disrespectful. Everyone has things they're uncomfortable with. Literally everyone, myself included. Some of us have things that don't just make us uncomfortable, but actually trigger us and put us in psychological distress, myself included.

But that being true doesn't give people the right to demand that they cease making the art they wish to make. People in this fandom make things that trigger me, and yanno how i act? I block them and move on.

As I've said before, respect is subjective. Personally i find it disrespectful to try to dictate what are other people make because some of it might make you uncomfortable. Everyone has the right to creative liberty, and it is wrong to step on other people's feet in that regard because something they create makes you uncomfortable. If we bent to the will of anyone and everyone that didn't like certain things in art, art just.... wouldn't exist. Or if it did, it'd be the most sanitized shit in existence.

To avoid that happening, we use sites' features to cultivate our own experiences, and do our part to help others do the same. Block, mute, ignore, tag, spoiler, and trigger warn our art. I do the same. I appropriately tag every single one of my fanfics to the best of my ability. The one thing i have refused to tag my fics as is "underage" when they're not. Caelum is 24. He's not underage, he's not a child. And quite frankly i've been thinking of him as a mentally capable adult from day 1, so I'm not going to tag my fic as something it isn't. But i've done my job to let you know that there is sexual NFSW of Caelum in my fics, i make it very clear. If you proceed to read it when you believe he is a child, that is your choice and your responsibility. I have done my job. If you interpret Caelum as not being capable to consent, i can't and won't stop you. Hell, i don't want to stop you. You're free to do such a thing, that's your right.

It's not disrespectful to write something that someone dislikes, or makes them uncomfortable. People can ask nicely, or demand, or try to control you all they want, but their right to not be challenged by art ends where your right to creative liberty begins. Nobody has the right to tell you what you can and can't make, and that includes Erik.

I've said it before and i'll say it again, but fandoms just simply aren't for the creators, they're for the fans.

I'll admit that if i didn't tag my fics as i do, or if i intentially tried to shove them in Erik's face despite his possible wishes to not see them, then i'd be a disrespectful asshole. But i don't do that. No one has to see or like my fanfics, they're written for me and i share them for anyone who would like to read them.

It’s never been a really big secret that you liked drawing. But when it comes to working for the league, specifically, the League of Villains, your line of work doesn’t allow for very much downtime unless you’re in the midst of planning some sort of attack or rebellion.

Whether or not the league keeps hopping from rendezvous spot to rendezvous spot isn’t up to you, but you never fail to get a little used to the eerily calming silence that falls upon the league during the first twenty-four hours of the new four walls that seem to keep you safe for the time being.

With a barely sharpened pencil in your hand, a small drawing pad in the other, you’re staring at Dabi as you sketch him.

It started as a bit of a joke, maybe just teasing him since he liked to tease you about being into him since you were the only one he was really super close, if you could call being the first one he spoke to every time he saw you or the one you sought out to be paired up with during missions, ‘super close.’

But now, it was something you enjoyed.

Dabi was one among the very interesting members of the league. Something about his scars just seemed to entrance you. Pulling you in further and further down a rabbit hole of questions that you had but never let leave past your lips.

It felt wrong to ask, not that it was a bad thing to be curious, but because Dabi was just so mysterious. No one knew anything about him, or about who he was, his past, even his real name was a mystery. 

It felt wrong to disturb the unnerving peace that was Dabi. The resting expression on his features balancing on a thin cable between anger and poor personal resilience.

Dabi’s scars were the highlight of your sketches, always standing out. What the others may have thought to be ugly, or unattractive, you thought were beautiful, and emotional.

There was a story behind them, one you wanted to know, one you wanted to uncover and read, page by page, line by line, and word for word, discovering just how truly deep Dabi’s past was. But only Dabi could show you that, only Dabi could open that book for you. And you were willing to wait. You’d wait an eternity if you had too.

His rough raven hair is messy and strewn about as you scribble down his facial features, the groggy lighting making it just a tad difficult to see as you lead the pencil over the warm white paper littered with graphite covered fingerprints.

His arms are positioned on a counter, the art work resembling how he was sitting sloped against the kitchen table, elbows pressed against the dark mahogany wood, hands resting by his mouth as his cerulean eyes peer off at the cracked cement wall in front of him, occasionally glancing back at you.

The other members of the league were scattered about but it didn’t bother you. Toga asked you a couple of questions, wondering what you were doing, if you were excited about the new plans and such.

You replied quietly as to not disturb the peace.

But soon some of the members left, going off to go eat or find something to do. And soon you were among the few left behind, along with Dabi, Shigaraki and Mr. Compress.

Having almost finally finished your current sketch, you were stopped by a pair of hands picking up your drawing pad. Rough and calloused fingers drew your pad away and your attention away.

“Hey I’m not finished.” You glanced up at Dabi. Dabi just admired the talent poured into the sketch. Dabi couldn’t wrap his head around why you drew him so often, but he didn’t mind. It was kind of touching in a way.

“Is that really what I look like?” Dabi joked, handing you back your sketch pad.

“You have looked in a mirror once before, right?” You titled your head to the side, adding a bit more detail to his scars as you began to draw again. 

“A few times. But I’d rather look at you, doll.” Dabi’s hands reached down again, this time pulling at your hands. Leading you out of the room where the other two members sat, finding a way to entertain themselves, Dabi lead you up some stairs in questionable condition.

Picking a random room, he sat down on the rickety bed and waited for you to sit down.

“Why’s that?” You tease, returning to drawing, looking up at him every few seconds to reference. And to admire him.

“You’re easy on the eyes, beautiful and-”

“Are you saying you’re not beautiful, Dabi?” You stopped him, not pausing to look at him.

“I’m not beautiful, I’m gorgeous.” Dabi chuckled, shaking his head jokingly as he laid back against the bed, his head dangling off the opposite end.

“You are.” You confirm. Finally finishing up your sketch. You get up and walk over to him, handing him the finished sketch. 

“You add so much detail to my scars. They’re just scars.” The tips of Dabi’s ears flush as heat floods to his face. He’s flustered but he won’t admit it. He can’t understand why you think he’s so beautiful.

You don’t speak. For the first time, you’re speechless. You sit down beside Dabi, and now that he’s sitting up, he faces you.

You reach your hands out and gently lift one of his arms, holding one of his hands in your own. You run your fingers across the scarred flesh, gently caressing his skin. 

His hands are cold compared to your warm fingers. He’s getting chills all down his spine as you touch him. It’s not meant to be anything out of the ordinary, but he’s still shocked that he’s letting you touch him.

“Your scars are beautiful. I’m sure there’s a story, something about them that might make you hate them, but I love them, and I think they make you that much more beautiful. You are a masterpiece, every scar a carefully calculated brushstroke on a beautiful canvas.” Your words finally come out, overflowing with love. You can’t sit quietly anymore.

“Dabi you are beautiful.” Your eyes lock with his, and you can tell he’s unsure of what to do. 

Dabi no longer felt he had the ability to cry, but if he’d let himself, he would’ve done it in that moment. Being so open and vulnerable around you just happened. It came too easily, and he hated it, but he loved you.

Pulling his arm away form your warm touch, he tossed his jacket off and to the side before tearing his shirt away from his body, allowing you to see his chest, and more of his scar covered skin.

Sitting quietly with a faint blush on your cheeks, you couldn’t look away. trying to avoid staring directly at his toned chest and his nipples, you raised your hand and allowed your fingers to sink down across his sternum.

Soon your fingers were met with his abs, which the heat on your face noticed far too well. 

“Say it again.” Dabi mumbled. You lifted your head to look into his eyes again, your hand still resting against his chest.

“You are beautiful-” The moment the words left your lips, Dabi’s own lips were pressed against yours. Kissing you roughly, more than he intended too, his hands mangled into yours, pushing your arms over your head.

His heart was pounding and it felt like it was going to beat right out of his chest onto yours. Pulling away for a few seconds, Dabi’s hair covered his eyes as he looked down, finding interest in the collar of your shirt.

“I want you.” Dabi’s words were simple, but they didn’t have to be complex. You knew what he meant, and you knew what he wanted. You wanted it too. A chance to see him in a different light, with deeper meaning.

A chance to connect with him, one on one. 

“Then take me.” Your fingers intertwined with his, your arms still resting above your head. It didn’t take long for his lips to magnetize back to yours, sticking to them like glue.

When Dabi thought about sex, he didn’t come anywhere close to making love. There wasn’t that sort of option when it came to him. He didn’t think he was at all capable of love, let alone a relationship that was going to have any sort of emotional connection strong enough to make him feel stable.

But you, you were so vastly different from anyone he’d ever fucked. So different from an excuse to get his dick wet, to get his mind off of league business or heaven forbid, his past.

But you, you were what he needed, what he wanted. It was far from therapy, but it’d work. Having you around was like a drug, addicting, and he’d be going through withdrawals if he couldn’t have you.

Feeling you, touching you, fucking you, kissing you, it was fuel to his fire. He was damaged goods, broken and shattered, impossible to put together, but you were doing your best, working on the smallest parts, exercising precautions, and opening your heart to him.

Hearing his name in the form of your moans as he rutted into you, your legs wrapped tightly around his hips drove him wild, much like the way your hands tangled into his hair, forcing his head into your chest where he kissed and sucked on your skin, leaving marks.

Your moans and his own grunts of pleasure were spewing from the locked room. Dabi didn’t care if the others heard, he was enjoying the moment.

Every part of it. Every part of you, every part of your body, your words, your love. And before he knew, Dabi was at his highest, his face flush against your naked chest, breathing heavily as he inhaled your scent.

Still inside you, he didn’t move, allowing the two of you to catch your breath. It was in this moment, if Dabi allowed himself to cry, he would’ve cried a second time. He was so infatuated with you, so attached.

“I love you.” Your words scared him, causing his cerulean eyes to peak at you through locks of his noir hair.

“That’s stupid.” Dabi kissed your sternum, kissing up your chest, stopping at your neck to leave a little mark, only to meet at your lips in the end.

“How?” You ask softly, your hands massaging his scalp as his lips hover over yours.

“I can’t explain it, it just is.” Dabi frowned, trying to understand what your eyes were saying as they clouded with emotion.

“Love is complex, and I think that maybe you’ve never really had good experiences with it. If you’d let me, I could show you just how beautiful it can be.” You offer, a small smile on your lips.

“If you feel the need-”

“I do. I love you, and I want you to know love.” You kissed his forehead. Dabi eventually pulled out, not minding the mess, he’d clean up later. 

“I want you to know why I love you.” You whispered, hugging him closer to you.

“Why I love your scars, your hands, your strength, the rasp in your voice, all of it. I love.” Dabi’s arms are strung over your waist as he lays, face nuzzled in your neck. It’s a bit of a stretch for him, and he feels out of place, but it’s oddly comfortable.

The next couple of times you draw Dabi, you ask to see him shirtless again. And with every new sketch, there’s something new to be learned, for Dabi. He’s learning about love, and loving you. 

He finds that you still draw him incredibly cute, and though he won’t admit it, he loves when you draw him. He’ll pose for you if you ever ask, and you always tease him a little about how it was like he was born to be a model.

It’s a long road ahead of you, but it’s one you’re willing to take, to show Dabi just how important love is.

JONAH’S ROUTE JUST CAME OUT ON IKEREV TW AND I’M ON PART 12 AND I RLLY WANNA CAUSE SERIOUS BODILY HARM TO JONAH AND LUKA’S FATHER RN. I TALKED ABOUT HIM BEFORE ON LUKA’S EVER AFTER POST HERE BUT NOW IMMA TALK ABOUT IT AGAIN BC BELIEVE IT OR NOT, HE’S AN EVEN BIGGER ASSHOLE IN JONAH’S ROUTE.

BUT ANYWAYS HERE’S WHAT HAPPENED.

SPOILERS FOR JONAH’S EVER AFTER UNDER THE CUT

(ps the screenshots all have that orange recording button bc i want to look at them without having to go through the entire route again. sorry if they’re kinda annoying!)

Aight, so Jonah proposed to MC (well, he kinda just announced that MC is his fiancee from now on but whatever), and he decided to bring her to the Clemence house for this party to meet the family. Luka was there as well, standing in a corner. MC kinda wanted to join him in the corner as well, but Jonah dragged her off to meet his relatives. But they all seemed to dislike MC because she’s not from a good background.

Then, this dude enters the scene:

[Translation:

A dignified-looking man walked over here, looking at me, who is standing by Jonah, in surprise.]

And then, when Jonah goes to introduce MC as his fiancee, his father cuts him off by saying that he never heard of Jonah having a fiancee before. Like, Jonah was in the middle of a super serious and sincere introduction and his father just interrupted like that in a super cold voice. I was already starting to dislike him at this point, but I didn’t wanna fight him just yet.

Also, here’s something that kinda surprised me:

(His looks seemed to be similar to Luka’s, but his disposition...

(It seemed to be 50 times scarier than Jonah when I first met him...)]

I found it kinda weird how Luka actually took after him in terms of looks more than Jonah did??? Like, my original headcanon was that Luka didn’t actually look very similar to his father, which could be part of why he was ignored so much, but I guess he was ignored even when he looks like his father. Ouch.

Also, whenever the Clemence father makes an appearance, the thing that MC talks about the most is how scary/stern his disposition is. He must be someone really ruthless to warrant that kind of description.

After that, his father goes on to guess that Jonah had made the decision to bring MC without consulting anyone in his family because he knew that his decision would be opposed. I suppose that Jonah’s father does know him quite well, but it actually unsettles me more, because he seems to have no regard for the effect he has on his sons. Like, Jonah literally had to fight to keep his head up under such pressure.

So Jonah goes on to explain why he chose not to tell anyone about it, but his father interrupts him AGAIN with this huge speech about how the Clemence bloodline cannot be mixed with a bloodline of unknown origins. They have kept his tradition for hundreds of years, and that every single heir has accepted this fact and chose to marry someone of high social standing. 

Jonah, naturally, was pretty angry, and told his father that he has gone too far. But guess what? This dude ignores him YET AGAIN and tries to convince MC to marry Levie instead of Jonah. Seriously. No wonder Jonah never listens to anyone else if this was the role model he had. I’m really starting to grit my teeth at this point.

Also, something concerning is how Jonah’s father knew that Levie is after MC, since that was classified information. Jonah confronts him about him, but he brushes it off by saying that he was the former Queen of Hearts and he has all the information sources he need. I wonder how powerful he was when he was Queen if he was still so influential in his retirement. And yeah, he totally strikes me as the sort of guy who would order Claudius to assassinate people...

But anyways, Jonah’s father tells him that he’ll pretend as if he heard nothing and walks off, even though Jonah tried to tell him that he wasn’t finished yet. What a guy.

Jonah leaves MC with Luka and goes after his father. Luka takes MC to his room and tells her something really sweet. He tells her that to trust “that guy” (Jonah) and to wait for him, which really showed his reliance on his older brother. Like, even though he rejects Jonah a lot and avoids him, deep down inside he still believes in Jonah. 

And after a few parts we get a flashback where Jonah recalls the conversation he had with his father after he goes after him, and this is where my blood starts boiling.

So the Clemence father reminds Jonah, in a pretty harsh way, that when he had rejected marriage alliances in the past, he has always said that he’ll find someone better. He then goes on to call MC “that kind of person” (as in, a person of low birth and social standing), and Jonah gets pretty mad at him for that:

Jonah: Even if you’re my father, I cannot allow you to call her “that kind of person”...!

Clemence Patriarch: Don’t change the topic!

Hearing his father’s roar of fury, Jonah wasn’t scared in the slightest, and instead glared fierily back at him.]

I find it kinda interesting how the game refers to Jonah and Luka’s father as “the Clemence Patriarch” instead of “Clemence Father” or something. That would probably make more sense, because the term “Patriarch” can refer to a grandfather, an uncle, a cousin, etc., not necessarily a father. But I guess this highlights how his identity as a patriarch is prioritized before his identity as a father.

And then this scene happens:

[Translation:

Clemence Patriarch: Whatever you say! There is nothing more to say, get out. 

Clemence Patriarch: In order to prevent the failure of the first, we still have a second.

Clemence Patriarch: I will disown you as my son, and make Luka the heir of the family, and then he’ll be the one to marry a high-born noble lady.]

Honestly he makes Jonah and Luka sound so expendable, and that’s really not okay. They’re human beings, his own SONS, not an object to be thrown away when it served its use. Like, if I had any doubts about why Luka left his family before, this scene just explained everything. Who would want this guy as their parent????? 

And of course, as the best nii-sama in the world, Jonah caves.

He’s literally in an impossible position right now. Istg this dude is the worst parent in the Red Army, and the Red Army is already brimming with awful parenting skills. Lancelot’s father pretty much neglected him and Edgar’s uncle straight-up abused him, but you could still tell that they cared about their sons in their own little twisted ways. Lancelot’s father eqipped him with all the skills he would need to be King, and Claudius took all responsibility for the Bright family business in the end, protecting Edgar. And then we have the Clemence father who’s all like: i MaDE TwO kIDS foR a reASoN anD ThAt iS To HAVE ONE OF THEM REPLACE THE OTHER/USING ONE OF THEM TO THREATEN THE OTHER IF THEY MESS UP. Okay, this might be an unpopular opinion but I kinda hate binge watching shows. So with Young Royals S2 coming out in two weeks i thought I'd put it out there that imma do a watch an episode every couple days and discuss sorta situation if anyone wants to do that with me?

I personally think the culture around watching and episode then dissecting that episode is the best part of television and is why shows like Euphoria gets so popular cause everyone had something to talk about. No worries about spoilers cause u know everyone is on the same page

Just imagine if Stranger things season 4 had aired weekly- the power it would have had. Maybe to much i fear.

I was more excited to make this list than the OP and OST combined, and I’ll be a lot more emotional for this list. I think it’s because I know exactly what EDs I’m listing and what place I would give them that gives me that excitement. 10. Beastars - Yasashii Suisei

My god, they took the budget for the second season OP and gave it all to the ED. What an amazing ED it is. The animation is stunning, and I love its sketchy, watercolour style, making it one of the more unique EDs on the list. Yoasobi’s here to claim her stake on both the OP and ED, and she more than delivers for both. It’s such a heartbreaking ED as well, foreshadowing the kind of monster Louis forces himself to become, and Ibuki watching as his young master begins to lose himself. We see him also coming face to face with his carnivorous biology, unable to change anything about his nature or DNA. It also foreshadows his death! Wow! Thanks for making me want to die! Father figure Ibuki rest in peace my king.

9. Dr. Stone - Voice?

WOW!!!! I LOVE IT WHEN ANIME CHARACTERS RUN!!!! The song is an absolute bop, I was tempted to skip this ED when I was watching but I was curious to listen to the song, so I stuck around and I’m glad I did! It was stuck in my head for ages. This definitely isn’t the most impressive ED on here but I love how it foreshadows Senku running with his flash grenade to blind Homura, what a thrill!

8. My Hero Academia - Datte Atashi no Hiro

Yeah!!!! LiSA!!!! The iconic fantasy AU ED!!!! This ED unleashed so many fanfic ideas and artwork, I think they should just make another anime with the same cast in a fantasy world. I say that’s much more interesting than hero society. But enough about that, THE SONG!!! THE COLOURS!!! THE FUN AND WHIMSY!!! They just want you to enjoy this ED, and maybe go WOOOOOAAAAAAAH when you see Midoriya swinging his Ex-All Might-ibur.

7. Violet Evergarden - Michishirube

Wow. The way this ED made me sob during the mother daughter letters episode. Hearing “Michishirube” being sang has me screaming and wailing. I used to skip this ED but after that episode, I made it compulsory to listen to it. I don’t have much to say, because I’m listening to the ED while writing this, and if I continue I’m going to be unable to do anything else for crying too hard.

6. Ouran High School Host Club - Shissou

[dies] WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!! AS I HAVE SAID BEFORE THAT GUITAR RIFF IS RELIGIOUS. YES YOU DON’T GET TO HEAR IT IN THE ED BUT GO AHEAD AND LISTEN TO THE FULL SONG!!! I like this song over the OP, I don’t give a shit about your “kiss kiss fall in love” this is the true best song. This song is just such a nostalgic song, it’s the perfect song to run to. Or chase a certain blond anime boy to…. Get up and dance to it when you hear it! I can’t say I like the artwork in the background but who cares when you can just dance around or sing along without paying attention. The Japanese and the English are both phenomenal in their own way, but don’t get me started on “Just as long as you move you’ll be okay!”. I will throw up and cry.

5. My Hero Academia - Heroes

ANIME! BOY! RUNNING!!!! And another MHA ED! Imma say it: I prefer all the MHA EDs to the OPs. I love them so much!! But let’s talk about this ED. This song has that nostalgic, emotional thing going for it already and MHA isn’t even finished yet. Knowing how far Midoriya has come, and that once obtaining his dream seemed as impossible as reaching a star, I want to scream and cry knowing that his dream is so close now. I love when he wipes away his tears and at the very end we see the beach that he cleaned gleaming in the morning sun. The song itself is just so catchy and I can’t think of a better ED for the show than this.

4. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Uso

Haha, I made a post about this song before! I was screaming over the lyrics! BOKURA SAYONARA!!! The first time I saw the very simplistic, childlike animation I was shocked. Hang on, why is Studio Bones slacking? Where’s my sexy sakuga ED? Then you get to the end and see why it’s so simple because it’s literally drawn by child Ed and Alphonse. Hear that? That’s the sound of my heart crumbling to dust. Love this song to bits, and I love singing along whenever I hear it come on, amazing first ED for FMAB.

3. Hunter X Hunter - Hyori Ittai

I want you to look me in the eyes and tell me that this isn’t the most gorgeous ED you’ve ever witnessed. You get to see the original four standing in that anime sub space that all other anime characters can be found in. Then you get to see the most gorgeous celestial events reflected in the water as time passes by impossibly fast, our main four hardly bothered. Then the sun rises once again, and Leorio looks back at us — or Kurapika maybe. We then are rewarded with one final shot of the four of them at the start of their journey, caught in a picture framed on Leorio’s wall. Enough to have me choking back a sob. Absolutely devastating Thinking harder about the OP, you can see Gon is further ahead than Killua and Leorio who seem to be at an almost equal distance. Kurapika, who is set further back than them, shows how much distance has grown between the group that was as close as family at one point. Quite literally, both Killua and Leorio are unable to reach Gon or Kurapika. Kurapika being behind the group, suggests he is stuck in his past, incapable of moving forward to rejoin them. Gon being further ahead shows how he has fixated on his future - trying to reach his father and obtain all the power that he will ever have in his life.

2. Toilet Bound Hanako-kun - Tiny Lights

As I said before in my Top 10 OSTs list, I would put on a piano rendition of this song and sob uncontrollably in my maths class. I basically Pavlov dog trained myself to cry on command when it hits a certain point. This song kills me with its symbolism. Having read part of the manga, knowing that Nene is so close to death, toeing the line between the shore of the living and dead breaks my heart. When Mitsuba died and his and Kou’s paths crossed in the ED, leaving only a camera behind, I simply shattered into fragments. Don’t get me started on when Hanako fails to capture fish-ified Nene, managing to rescue her while falling deeper into the water. Absolutely devastating. This song is so beautiful and so emotional, it really is a thing of wonder in it’s simplicity. It would have easily been in first place, but there was always one ED that was going to take that spot. Excuse me while I sob dramatically for the next hour.

1. Hunter x Hunter - Hyori Ittai

Wow, the same ED in the same tier list? Yes! This. This is a masterpiece. I have added at least 500 views to Yuzu’s YouTube video. Go listen to this song so we can give it the views it deserves. I couldn’t put the second half of the whole song before the first half, the first half of the ED was what hooked me in the first place. This is my all time favourite song ever. This song changed my life for the better. It erased all the problems I had at that time. Nothing comes close to this song, this is in a league that transcends this world. Mere emotions aren’t strong enough to convey what this song does to you. When I heard them sing “Hyori Ittai” for the first time and saw those Gungi pieces flip, I fell so damn hard, that I’m still falling without any signs of stopping. I would happily rewind time to go back and listen to this song for the first time.

This post is a combination of the 90s PatB alongside the reboot’s Ep 13. Spoilers below. 

So...I was certainly not expecting a flashback in this ep. Great usage of the ‘everyone asks how, but no one ever asks why’ question by Pinky. 

No matter the adaptation, Brain is always presented as a mouse with a pathological need for control because he sorely lacked it as a young mouse. When he loses that control, whether in this episode with being locked in a car and taken on a road trip against his will, or in other episodes with different situations, he’ll lose control of himself, the very thing he’s trying to avoid. 

Anyways, the flashback presented in this episode can reasonably fit with the origin episodes in the 90s PatB, so I’m gonna try and present these in an order that can fit together, so let’s start off with Leggo My Ego, shall we? 

Anyway, Brain starts life as an innocent field mouse. Ain’t he the cutest little thing you’d ever see? 

Um...hey guys, maybe we could let the cute mouse baby blow a feather around and be happy? 

Nope...oof. Time to begin a life of trauma. 

He’s a babey.... He needs hugs! How do you people not have sympathy for him??????

So basically, the 90s cartoon presents several origins and some of them are more contradictory than others. I believe Leggo My Ego and The Visit are the only episodes that mention Brain was originally a wild mouse captured by humans, but it’s generally the most widely accepted origin for him.

In Leggo My Ego, Freud notes that Brain’s desire for world domination appears to be a subconscious desire to return to the simple life he once led. 

So..let’s bring in Snowball now. 

In this post, I’m trying to be chronological here. In this flashback, Brain describes how he and Snowball were once very close and how he could always make Snowball laugh. 

Brain and Snowball grew up together, and Brain genuinely cared about Snowball, even into adulthood when the two became enemies. 

They went through the gene splicer together after an experiment gone wrong. The gene splicer exploded and supposedly messed with Snowball’s mind. 

Snowball did something that caused him to get kicked out of ACME Lab. The rift became permanent, though what was the exact cause or if clashing ambitions fueled it is unknown. 

This event left a permanent mark on Brain, and Pinky himself had never heard about Snowball until he tried to steal one of Brain’s schemes. 

But anyway, the exact timeline of the splicing and the break in friendship is unknown. So...I think this flashback in the reboot’s Ep 13: Roadent Trip might fill one of the blanks in on an event that might’ve occurred during Brain’s time with Snowball, before he met Pinky. 

Alright, so for this post’s sake, I’m going to present the new flashback as if it took place shortly after Brain’s splicing with Snowball. I’m also going to disregard the 90s PatB episode Project BRAIN, because there’s stronger canon evidence that Brain was born in the wild and that he grew up with Snowball. However, I do enjoy keeping that Brain named Pinky. 

Anyways, that’s enough for the introduction. Grab your tissues if you haven’t already. 

Pinky: “You’re always trying to work out how to take over the world, but you’ve never told me why you want to take over the world, Brain.” 

*moment of silence*

Pinky: “Brain?” 

Brain: “If I answer this, you’ll let me expire in peace?” 

Honestly, a GIF would do Brain’s reaction justice, because he doesn’t outright dismiss Pinky’s question. He’s more hesitant because he realizes this moment is going to lead to a heart to heart talk, something he’d rather not engage in. And you know what? I can’t recall any instance of Brain admitting to Pinky about why he wanted to take over the world, just how or that he was going to do it with this particular plan. 

I think this correlates well with Leggo My Ego above; that Brain doesn’t reflect on the ultimate driving force behind his actions, just that he wants it and he’s going to somehow get it. If he does have a moment of clarity, he always dismisses it and goes right back to the drawing board. 

And most importantly, that he just wants love and respect. Does he create his own misery? Yes. But at the same time, he’s sadly a product of the combination of human curiosity and ignorance. 

So...I deeply apologize for this tangent real quick before I move onto the rest of this post. 

*takes deep breath* 

LOOK AT THIS BABY HE’S SUCH A CUTIE I WANNA HUG HIM SO BAD HE DOESN’T DESERVE THIS CRAP YOU WILL LOOK AT HIM AND YOU WILL LOVE HIM 

Okay, so like I said before, due to his head shape and how he seems to display early cognitive abilities here, I honestly think the best timeframe for this would be sometime in the 90s, just after his and Snowball’s splicing. Again, Brain was ultimately a child in Snowball, but since he’s the one narrating, we’re led to assume he set his sights on the world right away. 

Actually, it seems more likely that while Brain’s capacity for knowledge was enhanced, he still had to make the effort to learn. What he knows as an adult didn’t come all at once. So here, he has cognition, but he’s still fairly optimistic because the weight of the world truly hasn’t set in yet. 

Alright, so my explanation is that Snowball was elsewhere in the lab, and that they’re simply separated for the day. Brain was lifted out of an experiment with other mice, and placed directly into a solo study. 

The scientists place a huge slice of cheese on a stun plate, with the intention that Brain will be shocked if he tries to go for the cheese. Of course, who would be able to resist having this much food placed in front of them? I certainly wouldn’t. 

But the moment he tries to go for the cheese, he gets shocked. But since he’s very much learning, he doesn’t understand why he gets shocked if he steps on the plate. 

It’s this pose that makes me believe he’s spliced at this point. Brain adopts that thinking pose well into adulthood. However, he doesn’t really have a plan. He just thinks he’ll succeed if he goes for it enough times, much like the world. 

Also, compare his tail shape between this photo and the one above it. Rather fitting for it to be a lightning bolt, is it not? Mice tails do get kinked in real life if handled improperly, which is very much the case here too. 

Scientist 1: “The idea is that once we remove the electronic stimulus, he still won’t go for the cheese.” 

Scientist 2: “Learned helplessness.”  

And sadly...their hypothesis is proven correct. 

And the thing is, Brain does recognize that the shock is turned off. He does learn that he shouldn’t touch the plate. So he tries once more...

And stops. 

Even with the cheese’s proximity, it’s still unattainable. The only thing that holds Brain back is himself. He wants the cheese, but he’ll get hurt if he tries to go for it. So...despite there being no obvious danger, Brain doesn’t go for it again.

This could potentially be the moment where Brain finally loses his innocence. He has to control everything because the moment he doesn’t...he’ll get shocked. 

Notice how everything Brain’s ever wanted at any stage is always in close proximity to himself? In Leggo My Ego, he was extremely close to his parents and the tin can upon capture. In Snowball, he clearly desired companionship, but he and Snowball were never in the same cage. In this flashback, the cheese is ripe for the taking with the shock turned off, and he doesn’t try again. 

Brain is able to learn. And he learns that the world is cruel, that he’s only an interesting specimen for science with no autonomy of his own. He learns that he has to be in control to stop hurting so much.  

“From that day hence, I vowed I would be the one in control. Of myself, of my surroundings, of the world. Yet again, here I am, totally helpless.” 

Okay, I swear this wasn’t intentional and I didn’t notice this until I made this post, but look at how similar the final pose in the flashback and Brain’s pose in this shot are. 

That in some ways, Brain is still that child with simple desires. Maybe he phrases them differently, but that’s what it ultimately boils down to.  

And from Brain’s emotionally charged delivery of the above line, this experience was so traumatic that he kept it hidden for two decades. 

And while the cheese is supposed to represent how he can’t obtain the world despite living in it, I think there’s another thing that went unstated. It also happens to represent: 

Pinky is the cheese. Brain won’t step on a stun plate if he tries to touch Pinky. Rather, Pinky will welcome any affectionate gesture with open arms. 

But Brain believes he’ll be hurt if he tries. The humans set the precedent. Desire affection, desire love, you’ll get hurt, they taught him. 

The only thing holding Brain back is himself. 

And it’s absolutely tragic.

Be like Pinky. Give Brain a hug.

So you're done with Chapter 1, okay. Oof the next two pre-chapters will reveal a lot more about the Abyss Order. I'll try to keep any questions about Genshin pre-chapter 2. I've asked this to a lot of my friends but I kinda wanted your opinion. Is Monstadt lesser for not having their Archon guide them for years like Liyue, or do you think them greater for being able to thrive without it

Yeah, I have *some* spoilers for what's coming up with the Abyss Order, but I do appreciate not having any more.

Hmmm. That depends on what you mean by "lesser" or "greater"?

If you mean like- economically, then clearly Liyue is standing tall here, because it's shown to be this trade hub of the known world, it's bigger, it's got more vendors... but honestly that is not entirely (possibly not even mostly) because of Rex Lapis. Yes he gave advice every year and was clearly influential in its founding and protecting it until it found its feet in those early years, but Liyue is in a very advantageous place, geographically. Even without Mora having magic to influence it being the universal currency and without Rex Lapis there to guide- in a setting without Archons, I can still easily see Liyue becoming a powerhouse economically just because of location and resources. Not that Monstadt clearly hasn't also done very well for itself, considering they have valuable resources to export (wine, and its implied their meat product is something special if Xiangling would go all the way to Monstadt to personally get some).

But setting aside economics, I do personally think Monstadt is ... more durable. More adaptable. They've had, at best, bare minimum guidance from Barbatos, to the point where they cannot take someone seriously if they claim to be their Archon, they don't even think it a possibility unless proven otherwise. Yet they are strong, they are thriving. They have their businesses, their city is in an easily defensible place, and while we get more quests involving the Abyss Order causing trouble in Monstadt than Liyue (so far), we also see that Monstadt has it *handled*. They treat the Abyss Order as this- dangerous but almost ordinary annoyance. Like people in the high mountains going "ah yes, avalanches" or people who live in swamps going "beware the crocodiles". Abyss Mages running around are dangerous, and the knights take it seriously, but you don't see anyone panicking or being more than just- kinda annoyed that "oh look the hilichurls are trying to build a fort on the road. again" Supernatural stuff happened with Stormterror and people were honestly more upset about all the mess they had to clean up than going OH NO. DRAGON. SOMEONE SAVE US.

When trouble comes, Monstadt mostly just rolls with it, picks itself up and keeps on trucking.

Meanwhile in Liyue, the moment they think their god is dead, the whole city goes a wee bit bonkers. The authorities panic and try to find who "killed" him, the Adepti even debate *smiting the city* for "letting it happen", and it's clear that the head council (can't spell them for the life of me) kept Rex Lapis's passing secret until the last minute to avoid people straight up panicking. While I personally think Liyue will be fine so long as they figure out how to keep producing Mora without Rex Lapis there to spawn it, some of the in-game dialogue makes it clear that the citizens just- don't know how to handle the thought of living in a city that isn't being guided by their Archon. Even in stuff like contracts and business deals and what product will sell best this year.

Like. People. You have brains, business training, and 3,700 years of history to take examples from. Figure it out. You'll be fine.

So tl:dr while I think Liyue definitely benefited from having Rex Lapis around to guide their founding and early years, I think at this point that guidance turned into over-reliance well before Rex Lapis was like "imma retire now". And if I had to pick a city I would feel *safer* living in? Honestly I'd move to Monstadt. They've had their stuff figured out for a while now, and they don't constantly need an immortal with a (possibly questionable) grasp of politics or money (looking at you mister "i never have Mora on me even tho I literally make it") to tell them what to do or how to fix a problem.

So yeah I do think Monstadt is "greater" for having learned long ago how to pick themselves up and deal with problems themselves instead of sitting there waiting for a divine dragon to go "sell the apples, they'll do good this year" or something.

if anything good came out of 2020, it’s my discovery of manhwas. 

well, it’s not like i’ve never read a single manhwa in the past 15+ years but tbh, the ratio of manhwa:manga i consume on a weekly basis has jumped exponentially this year. previously it was like 1:99 and now it’s like 90:10 LMAO. 

so, just to remind myself that the world is still full of good things, i had to make this list. which i will probably edit in the future, if i can be bothered to. :)

Bahahah omg he looks evil there! But our dearest archduke is hardly that aww. Soz, I just ripped off the covers of the manhwa cos I can’t find a panel I liked more than another. I mean, this manhwa is a GEM. I can’t even begin to describe this because everything about it blew me away. This is not something you read when you are craving for fluff, or just wanna have something brainless after a hard day at work or if you just wanna have some eye candy lol. This is something you pick up on a weekend, when you have time, because you need those hours to digest, appreciate, clutch your chest, tear a little because you find yourself falling in love with these characters. It doesn’t have any of that cliche isekai, romance, revenge themes going on. It has a solid plot, backed by incredible characters, beautifully woven by the authors and artist with incredible pacing that keeps you on your toes and keeps you looking forward to the next chapter. Maybe I would have been happier if I found it after it was completed lol. HAVE I CONVINCED YOU ENOUGH TO MAKE YOU WANNA READ IT?! like, idk, just go. JUST GO READ IT GDI. 

p.s. it says there romance but naaaaaaah, dont go in with that expectation. :) this story is so much more than that.

Again, pacing, character development are so important to me and this manhwa aces it. I love the 2 MCs very much. And the side characters too. :)

When I first read this, i fucking cried. like please don’t ask me why. it’s not like its an absolute tragedy but I was just rooting for the MC so much and I really want for everything to go her way. That’s how much I adore this MC!!! I LOVE HER. I LOVE HER MORE THAN YOU DO NORA! HAHAHHA. okay soz. I need to keep this spoiler-free.

Anyhoo, there is nothing typical about this time travel plot. Sure, she goes back to try to undo the stuff that went wrong but phew, she certainly changed things so much everything that comes her way have made it so her previous experiences can hardly help aaaaaaand that’s what makes it fun! I sometimes wish the pacing could be a little more consistent, and there could be more characters I could love a little more wholeheartedly (so i wont have to be in so much despair when i read this sometimes lol) but omg the art, isn’t it pretty?! I’ve re-read this soooooo many times but the art blows me away all the time. And have I already mentioned how much I love her?! I LOVE YOU SHULI! AND I WANT YOU TO BE HAPPY!

WHAT LADY BABY?! ehehehe. okay anyway, uhm, this is already incredibly popular. im not sure if i need to elaborate but yes, it’s adorbs!!! i dont think i like the MC as much as i love her family lol. and everyone else who adores her. im looking forward to when they get older. :) actually not really. please stay cute for as long as yall can! but yeah, i do wish the plot can move a lil faster. i want to see more character development in the other kids too COME ON!

am i allowed to reveal how shallow i am rn? like the previous choices were all like ‘wow-deep-plot’, ‘wow-character-development’ and this one i just included cos of AESTHETICS ALONE?! the novel covers are breathtaking!!! the manhwa art is amazing as well. and the harem is great! LOL. as for plot... uhm... it’s alright. it’s pretty engaging and i quite like the MC, she’s smart and independent and i love how she views them all antagonistically at all times HAHAHHA. her past is kinda... weird though and i do wish they’d stop referencing it. cos... girl why do you wanna go back to reality!!! stay here! it’s way more exciting! 

i love the whole isekai/reincarnate/transmigration theme and this is honestly one of the better, not-so-cliche or cheesy ones HA.

it’s highly entertaining and breaks all isekai-reincarnation-villainess plot stereotypes. definitely one of the titles i look forward to every week.

BECAUSE OF CLAUDE OF COURSE. ahahaha. okay aside from the amaaaaaaazing art and the beautiful people, the plot is not too bad. a little extreme at times but it’s interesting enough to keep me going. it’s currently on hiatus though and i was highly annoyed by how the first season ended. (YOU WANNA KNOW WHAT HAPPENED? NOTHING.)

i hope the plot can move faster in the next season! and that our dearest MC athanasia can you know, finally be a little more useful... like omg just tell lucas already!!! and tbh girl, no matter which guy you choose, i approve. :D

i featured this before, mostly out of frustration HAHAHA. do you see why i chose this cover?! yeah, i support this (unpopular) pairing okay! the other one is doomed!!! no matter what the author is trying to do now!! I DONT SUPPORT IT!!! lol.

anyway, i had to feature this cos the art is unique! and the story is great. :) and i looooooove listening to the ost while i read it. it starts out kinda slow but as the pace picks up, you won’t be able to stop. and you find yourself conflicted at various points. it did win an award for a reason. 

no matter what, i still think dowun is best for her okay. it’s dowun or nothing. he’s devoted to her, we all know that! he just needs to ditch that annoying female guard!!! ok yknw what, maybe nothing is better. :/ *cries*

the art is great. the MC is great. i use him and his gang as my wallpaper. 

im just not sure i like how this season’s plot is progressing. :/ but i guess it brings us nearer to solving the mystery in the first leg of the manhwa. i just enjoyed the whole part of him leveling up and now that he isn’t really leveling up anymore... idk. am i hoping for more plot shit like bleach (oh wow now u quincy?)... idk man. anywho, no regrets starting on this series and marathon-ing it to death. 

cross fingers the plot picks up and doesnt get too complicated for its own good.

COS I LOVE THE 2 MCs!!! they’re adorable. the plot is again, kinda far-fetched at times (i literally laugh my head off at some parts) but it’s isekai-reincarnation okay! anything is possible in whatever magical crap country you end up in! lol. and i like how straightforward it is... in the sense there’s no 2nd lead. like okay i mean they are there but we all know they have no chance. oops. sorry!

Kudos to the huge improvement in art style lmao. The good... lovable MCs, engaging plot. The bad... sometimes lengthy, incredulous medical moments (i work in the medical field so i... idk. sometimes this borders on iryu LMAO and i need to remind myself this is romance) otherwise, this is a highly highly entertaining read.
