the final chapter of true blu is now UP!!! it's hard to believe we've finally made it here ;u; when i set out to write this fic, there were plenty of times when i wanted to throw in the towel and call it quits...but im really glad i stuck to it :'3 im proud of this fic and all y'all's support made it possible !!

James Potter was tired.

Not physically—he had plenty of energy to go for a run or play a pickup game of football if the opportunity presented itself. No, James was emotionally exhausted.

Tired of waiting. Tired of mixed signals. Tired of pretending like this was enough.

Regulus Black was brilliant, beautiful, and a walking contradiction. He texted James at odd hours, pulled him in like he couldn’t stand the distance between them, then pushed him away just as fast. He would agree to dinner and cancel at the last minute. He would disappear for days, then show up at James’ doorstep at two in the morning, looking like he hadn’t slept, pressing a desperate kiss to James’ lips before they stumbled inside.

James had let it slide. He had told himself it was just the way Regulus was. Skittish. Hesitant. Scared, maybe. He thought that if he gave it time, Regulus would come around, would realize that they could be something real.

But time had passed, and James was still waiting.

So when Regulus’ name flashed across his phone screen that night, James hesitated before answering. He already knew how this would go.

“Hey,” Regulus’ voice was smooth as ever, but James knew that tone. It was the voice Regulus used when he wanted something, when he was trying to slip past James’ defenses.

“Reg,” James sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Are you calling to cancel again, or is this a different kind of call?”

There was silence. A beat too long. James could hear the way Regulus’ breath hitched, just slightly.

“James, I—”

“No,” James cut him off, tired of skirting around the truth. “I need to know, Reg. I’m tired of waiting to figure out what we’re doing.”

Another silence, but this one was heavier. James could almost picture Regulus, brows furrowed, lip worried between his teeth.

Regulus had always been careful. Always guarded. James knew why—years of expectation and pressure, a family that had taught him love was conditional, that being vulnerable meant being weak. But James couldn’t be the only one trying.

“I care about you,” Regulus said finally, his voice quieter. More real. “I do.”
