When you’re a kid like Gavin Grimm, you know yourself best. And Gavin knew that he was a boy–even if others saw him as a girl. But when his school took away his right to something as simple as using the boy’s restroom, Gavin knew he had a big decision to make.
Because there are always more choices than the ones others give you.
Gavin chose to correct others when they got his pronouns wrong. He asked to be respected. He stood up for himself. Gavin proved that his school had violated his constitutional rights and had the Supreme Court uphold his case–bringing about a historic win for trans rights. There are many kids out there, some just like Gavin Grimm, and they might even be you.
What choices will you make?

Ace Attorney law school headcanons because I'm trying to wrap my head around how all these characters are lawyers so young
Applying to law school in the AA world requires specific prerequisites and you have to take the LSATs, but they don't specify the ages for that. As long as you have the classes and the score? They have to consider your application
Once you’re in law school you take all the classes and eventually take the bar exam at the end to be certified and then you can practice
If you're a normal person like Phoenix, you'd take these pre-reqs in college and take the LSAT shortly before or after graduation then go to law school (ending up a lawyer ~24 years old)
If you're a normal but insane person like Apollo, you'd take as many of these pre-reqs in high school as u can so you can graduate college early and expedite the process (ending up a lawyer at ~22 years old)
Since lawyers are like celebs, there's a lot of pull around Lawyerly Degrees and whatnot. Prep academies started realizing "hey we can teach those classes to rich lawyer-nepo-baby kids with absurd amounts of money. Let's do that" and a bunch of legal prep high schools started cropping up that allowed kids to enter law school without college bc technically a bachelor's isn't a requirement, only the classes and test
If you're rich and / or have connections (the gavins, the von karmas, debeste, etc) you usually end up in one of these schools and are practicing law by the time you'd normally be in college (lawyer at ~18 years old)
I need to see an office christmas party where all the prosecutors and defense attorneys are chatting about Themis and practicing law before they could even pay taxes and whatever and Apollo and Phoenix are standing off to the side like "YOUR EXPERIENCES ARE NOT UNIVERSAL"

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐋𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐘 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐄𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐑ᵏʲ⁹¹
in which y/n and kent hide a big secret from his teammates.
warnings; pregnancy, mention of kids, alcohol, vacation
Kent was the kind of guy who always seemed at ease, the life of the party but with a quiet confidence that drew everyone to him. You had fallen for him long ago, when the two of you were young teenagers, and now, you were his everything. This vacation with his teammates was supposed to be fun, a chance to unwind, but you had a secret - one that had been growing for months.
You were pregnant.
Kent was ecstatic when you told him. He’d hugged you so tightly that night, whispering about the future, about how perfect everything was going to be. But now, here you both were, on this vacation with Sean Kuraly, Cole, Gavin, and Adam, and neither of you had told them. The timing wasn’t right - in fact, you guys hadn’t even told your families. Maybe they’d get suspicious, or worse, maybe they’d feel like you were holding out on them. Kent was sure they’d freak out once they knew.
But here you were, at Sean’s beach house in Cape Cod. While the rest of the boys had flown, you and Kent had decided to make the 16 hour drive from Columbus, simply to spend more time with each other before having to share a living space with the others for two weeks. Once you had arrived, though, everyone was exhausted and just wanted to spend the first night in. In fact, Adam had suggested a few card games.
There was only one problem. On top of that, Cole had suggested alcohol. You looked at Kent nervously, but he gave you a reassuring smile as Sean turned to you, “Y/N, come up with a challenge for us. Whoever loses has to buy drinks.”
This was perfect. You nodded, picking up your phone and opening a random wheel spinner. You had each of the boys pick an NBA team, but when it came to entering them onto the wheel, you entered Kent’s all four times. So, when the wheel stopped spinning, you announced the team out loud, “The Minnesota Timberwolves.”
Sean, Adam, and Cole all cheered as Kent pretended to roll his eyes, but he sneakily shot you a knowing smile before picking up his keys from the counter. The boys slapped him on the back a few times but he shook them off, gently grabbing your arm, “Since your challenge is the reason I lost, you’re coming with me.”
You playfully rolled your eyes, but immediately gave in. Adam snickered behind you as Sean and Cole let out a few cheers. Kent wrapped an arm around you and opened the door for you, gently leading you to his car. As soon as you were out of earshot, Kent spoke up softly, “You feeling okay?”
You couldn’t lie. The exhaustion was creeping in. The pregnancy was still early, and you weren’t showing much, but the morning sickness, the fatigue – it was all becoming harder to hide. Kent had noticed the change in you almost immediately, but knew that it had grown harder for you in the past couple of weeks. He was worried. He was so excited to have a little him or little you around the house soon enough, but also hated seeing how hard it was on you. On top of that, he knew that you wanted to keep it a secret for as long as you could, and he knew you’d be even more stressed if people were to find out, so he didn’t want to spill anything.
In fact, he questioned even coming on this trip, but you had explained that you’d needed it. Whether he believed you or not, was only up for him to decide.
He opened the car door for you and you waited to reply until he was buckled in on the other side, “Just tired,” you answered, offering him a small smile.
He rubbed the pad of his thumb across your cheek, “Let me know if you need anything, okay?”
You nodded, offering him another small smile. The drive to the liquor store was rather quiet. Kent had put on some Frank Ocean, which you both had softly hummed along to until you pulled into the parking lot.
Kent turned off the car and exited his side, only to appear on your side of the car a few seconds later to open the door for you. You grabbed his hand and as soon as he knew you were safely out of the car, he placed his arm on the small of your back protectively. The cool night breeze rolled in off of the ocean as you made your way through the parking lot. The distant sound of the waves crashing against the shore helped ease some of the nerves that had been building up inside of you.
“I feel like I’m gonna slip up at some point,” you admitted, resting your head against your boyfriend’s shoulder, “Cole’s just gonna keep offering me drinks and it’s gonna be suspicious if I keep saying no.”
Kent rubbed your back with the pad of his thumb, leaning down to press a kiss to the top of your head reassuringly, “You’re doing great, pretty girl. But I’ll tell you what. We’ll buy an extra pack of drinks, dump them out, and then go to the grocery store to buy some non-alcoholic alternatives that we can put in there instead. I would say we’d just buy some non-alcoholic beer here and have you drink that, but Adam’s overly observant.” he chuckled.
You nodded, shooting your boyfriend a relieved smile. You always appreciated how calm and steady he was. Even though you were both navigating this secret together, Kent always managed to make you feel like everything was under control.
When you stepped inside, the cool air-conditioning hit you immediately as the door jingled behind you. Kent headed straight for the fridge, grabbing a couple cases of beer and a bottle of whiskey that he knew Sean would like. You followed suit, selecting a case of High Noon out of the fridge.
“Ready?” Kent asked, shooting you a smile when you replied with a yes.
As you reached the counter to pay, the cashier raised an eyebrow at you and Kent, his eyes flicking to your stomach before looking back at Kent. You shifted uncomfortably, aware that people might notice your changing body sooner rather than later. Kent caught the look too but didn’t say anything, keeping the conversation casual with the cashier as he handed over the money.
When you stepped back outside, you breathed a little easier. “Think he noticed?” you asked, half-joking.
“What an asshole,” Kent muttered, rolling his eyes playfully.
The trip to the grocery store was pretty uneventful. Kent had gone in and picked out a sparkling water brand that you liked, along with some flavored sodas that looked fancy enough to pass as mixed drinks. On top of that, he grabbed a few more things, making sure you’d have enough variety to keep up appearances for the next few days. Once the cart was full, he checked out, the cashier giving him a friendly nod as he paid for the items.
When Kent reached the car, he opened your passenger side door. “Now comes the tricky part,” he said with a grin, opening up the package of High Noon and dumping out the drinks. He grabbed a few water bottles from his trunk before flushing out the alcohol from the cans - and thoroughly.
“I think that’s good, KJ,” you chuckled, flashing him a smile. He looked up at you and flashed you one in return.
“Gotta keep my girls safe,” he explained, ruffling your hair before opening up the bottles of sparkling water and pouring them into the clean cans with the same care, resealing them to make sure they looked untouched. Everything looked perfect - no one would suspect a thing. Kent stood back and took a moment to admire his work, placing the resealed package at your feet before ruffling your hair again.
You rolled your eyes, shaking him off, before he quickly made his way back to his side of the car and hopped in. You looked at him incredulously, “We don’t even know what we’re having yet!” you exclaimed, but you knew there was no point in arguing. Ever since you told him that he was going to be a dad, he was adamant that the two of you were having a baby girl. Of course, he’d be happy as long as the baby’s safe and healthy, but that didn’t change his fatherly instinct, as he liked to call it. You rolled your eyes again, chuckling softly, and were on your way back to the beach house.
When the two of you arrived back there, Sean, Cole, and Adam’s rowdy laughter could be heard through the walls as you and Kent slipped through the side door into the kitchen. When he looked over towards you, he noticed how you self-consciously had placed your arms over your growing bump. Sensing your discomfort, he softly placed the alcohol down and gifted you the hoodie off of his back.
You smiled gratefully at him, grabbing the “seltzers” from him as he carried the whiskey and beer. The two of you carried the drinks out to the main room, where Sean, Cole, and Adam were engrossed in a game of Black Jack.
“Finally!” Cole exclaimed, dropping his cards as he noticed the two of you walk in, “We were wondering what took you so long!”
You chuckled, placing the drinks down on the table alongside Kent, “It’s Friday night in a vacation town,” Kent explained, shrugging his shoulders to keep it casual. Adam nodded along, seemingly saying fair enough.
As the guys reached for the beer and whiskey, Kent grabbed one of the “seltzer” cans and handed it to you with a wink. You accepted it gratefully, taking a sip and letting the cool, refreshing taste calm your nerves. He then wrapped an arm around you as you cuddled into his side.
The night continued on, with no one suspicious about what you and Kent had just pulled off. The boys were yelling about the game of euchre they were playing, earning a soft but playful eye roll from you. Kent kept a watchful eye on you, making sure you were comfortable, all while seamlessly blending in with his teammates.
As the night wore on, the laughter in the living room began to slow, and you could feel the weight of exhaustion settling over you. Between traveling all day and the energy it took to keep up appearances, your body was calling for rest. You smiled at the guys, pretending to stifle a yawn as you pushed your chair back from the table.
“I think I’m gonna call it a night,” you said, glancing around the room, “I’m pretty wiped from today.”
Sean, Cole, and Adam all gave you understanding looks, still focused on their cards and drinks. “You’ve earned it,” Sean said with a grin, “We’ll try not to be too loud and keep you up.”
“Good luck with that,” Adam teased, “Cole’s not exactly the quietest person you’ll ever meet.”
You laughed lightly as Cole smacked Adam upside the head. Standing up and giving Kent a quick look, your eyes communicated more than words could in that moment. He caught your glance immediately, knowing exactly what you meant. You needed him with you, but at the same time, you didn’t want to raise suspicion by him leaving too soon after you.
“I’ll be up in a bit,” he said, giving you a small, reassuring smile, “I’ll keep an eye on Cole and make sure he’s not too loud.”
You nodded, giving him a quick hug and offering the guys a wave before slipping away from the table. As you climbed the stairs, you could hear them still talking and laughing, their voices a soft hum in the background. Once you were upstairs, you exhaled a long breath of relief, the tension of the day finally easing as you made your way to your room.
You changed into your pajamas, feeling the weight of the day lifting as you settled onto the bed. It didn’t take long for Kent to join you. About 30 minutes later, you heard his familiar footsteps on the stairs, and the door quietly creaked open.
“Hey,” he said softly, closing the door behind him as he moved toward the bed, “You okay?”
You smiled, nodding as he sat down beside you, “Yeah, just tired. It was a lot today.”
Kent slid into bed next to you, wrapping an arm around your shoulders and pulling you into his chest. “I know. You did so good today, pretty girl. No one suspects a thing.”
You chuckled softly, resting your head against his chest, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat calming you, “Thanks for helping me pull it off. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
Kent kissed the top of your head, his voice low and comforting, “Of course, my love. We’re a team.”
The two of you stayed like that for awhile, the soft sounds of the ocean outside your window mixing with the distant murmur of voices from downstairs. It felt peaceful, the weight of the day finally lifting now that you were alone together.
“I can’t wait until they're here,” you whispered after a few moments of silence, your hand resting gently over your stomach.
Kent smiled against your hair, his arm tightening around you, “Me too. But until then, we’ll keep playing it cool for as long as we can. You get some rest, though, alright? You’ve had a long day.”
You nodded, feeling sleep begin to pull at you as Kent’s warmth and presence comforted you, “Goodnight, KJ.”
“Goodnight, Y/N/N,” he whispered, pressing another soft kiss to your forehead.
With Kent beside you, you felt safe and content, knowing that no matter what challenges the next days would bring, you had him by your side. As your eyes fluttered shut, the last thing you felt was Kent’s hand gently resting on your stomach, a quiet reminder that the two of you were in this together. Always.

Brotherhood - A βΓΦ Story
This story was made with the approval of the absolutely fantastic @johnbrand and takes place in the universe he created in Catch (βΓΦ), which I totally recommend everyone read before diving into this one. Not just to make this one easier to read, but because he’s a really damn good writer!
“I could chill here all day doing this with you,” said the skinny eighteen-year-old with light brown hair, rocking a navy blue polo tucked into perfectly pressed khaki shorts while he kissed a shirtless ginger wearing nothing but sweatpants.
“Gavin, this is the first sign of acknowledgment your brother has shown in over two months since you’ve been at the same college as him. You gotta go.”
“Then come with me, Pat! It'll be way easier to face Trenton with you by my side!”
“Hell no, I’m not getting myself stuck at one of those frat parties voluntarily!”
“And you still wanna drag me along!”
“Babe, I was just kidding! If necessary, I’ll go over there, but I think it should be a moment just for you and your brother!”
“Fine! But don’t think I’ll be hanging around for long!”
…..
“What a damn party, Mr. President!” praised the handsome dude close to twenty, with light brown hair and a muscular build, rocking a light blue shirt and summer shorts.
“Thanks, bro, but I gotta say I’m bummed my special guest hasn’t shown up yet,” replied the slightly older blonde dude, just as jacked, wearing a white shirt and pristine white shorts.
“Special guest? Looks like everyone’s here…”
“Oh, but this is a super special guest, Trent. Someone I think should’ve been introduced to our fraternity a long time ago, but, you know, my own recruitment chairman hasn’t brought him to me.”
“I’m your recruitment chairman. What the hell are you talking about?”
“I’m talking about your brother, of course! Why the hell didn’t you bring him to us?”
“I… I… it’s because… how do you know about Gavin?”
“That doesn’t answer my question, Trenton.” said the blonde guy. “Did you really think you could hide this from me? Although the real question is, why?”
“Prez… you gotta understand Gavin isn’t like us… he’s not fraternity material…”
“Trent, he’s your brother, he’s got the same potential as you.”
“Sorry to disagree, but no. I’m the odd one in my family, my dad and my brother… dude, you’ll see. But honestly, you look way more like my brother than he does, Chance.”
“Thanks, bro, makes me wanna almost forgive you for keeping stuff from me. And I forget you’re still out of the loop on everything…”
“Out of the loop on what?”
“You’ll find out soon… oh look who’s coming! I knew someone who is your brother would have some guts.” Chance grinned, pointing to the young guy approaching. Gavin looked pretty uncomfortable but walked into their territory with his head held high and a defiant look. “Why don’t you go greet him, bro?”
“Alright, but honestly, I don’t see this conversation going anywhere.” Trent replied, a bit annoyed, as he walked toward his brother. “What the hell are you doing here, Gavin?”
“Good morning to you too, brother. And you’re the one who sent me that message on Instagram inviting me to come, like you didn’t have my cell number.”
“You dumbass, it was one of the guys from my fraternity who sent that. If I wanted to talk to you, you’d know it.”
“I guess that makes sense since you’ve barely talked to me since we got in the car at Dad’s house. Is this because of Patrick?”
“Dude, I’m not talking about your boyfriend in the middle of my frat party. We’ve established that I didn’t invite you here, so why don’t you just bounce?”
“Why would one of your bros call me here?” Gavin asked, making a quote gesture with his hand.
“I don’t know, maybe to pull a prank on me, make me look like an idiot with a brother like you… just go away, Gavin.”
“And what if I don’t wanna?”
“What…?”
“Well, I was invited, wasn’t I? So maybe I wanna stick around and see what my big bro finds so damn interesting about this place!”
“You can’t be serious, you little shit, I…” Trent didn’t finish his sentence before being interrupted by one of his bros.
“Hey, Trent, dude!”
“What’s up, Bear???”
“I need your help here, Beer Pong competition with two hot chicks.”
“Just a sec, bro.” he replied before turning angrily to his younger brother. “Do whatever you want, but if you make me look bad, I’ll mess you up, and Dad isn’t here to protect you, you crybaby.” He concluded as he walked away.
“I can’t believe I had to go through that.” Gavin thought, retracing his steps, only to be blindsided when two of Trent’s huge bros sprinted past him in some kind of dumb game, spilling a ridiculous amount of beer all over him.
“Sorry, little bro… my bad!”
“Rip and Skip, you big idiots, the kid is soaked! Sorry, man, these two are just brainless. I’m Chance, president of the frat, and you’re Gavin, Trent’s little bro. Nice to meet you, Gav.”
“I’d prefer if you called me Gavin.”
“Negative, you’re my brother’s brother, so we’re family, and in family, everyone needs a nickname. Chance isn’t actually my name, though sometimes I forget that. But no one, not even my dad, calls me Conrad. So you’re Gav, come with me, little bro, let’s get you cleaned up and into some fresh clothes.”
“Thanks for the kindness, Conrad… Chance…” Gavin quickly corrected himself, seeing a dangerous glint in the much bigger guy’s eyes. “But I was about to leave, I’ll clean up in my dorm.”
“Negative again, Gav. You just got here, and I’m not letting you leave without getting to know a bit about the fraternity, and what kind of host would I be if I let two morons mess you up and then just leave without cleaning up the mess? Come with me.” Chance said, walking toward the big house. Not wanting to be rude, Gavin followed him.
“So… you were the one who sent me the invite through my brother’s Instagram?”
“Guilty, but it was with good intentions. You’re not a legacy since you’re not the son of a brother, but we don’t usually let brothers of brothers pass by unnoticed.”
“You… want me… want me in your fraternity?” Gavin asked, shocked.
“Why the surprise? Your brother is one of my chairmen; it’s natural to think about having you here with us.” Chance replied, leading Gavin to a room that looked like it had been hit by an explosion. There were clothes scattered all over the place, books and study materials in the corners, along with empty beer bottles and energy drink cans.
“Dude, what a pigsty, but your brother isn’t the most organized bro in the world. Though he makes up for it with charisma.”
“This is Trenton’s room?”
“Yep, normally he’d be sharing with another brother, but our selection process this year isn’t over yet. Here’s your chance to reconnect.”
“I… he’s made it pretty clear he doesn’t want any kind of relationship with me. I don’t think forcing myself into his life is gonna change anything.”
“Sit down and dry off.” Chance said, offering a towel that Gavin could’ve sworn hadn’t been washed recently. Still, not wanting to be rude, he took it from the other man’s outstretched hand and started to wipe himself down, feeling the musk of his brother spreading over his body as his dick started to harden. “Ugh, gross, what kind of reaction is that from smelling my brother’s body?” he thought, letting the towel drop as a wave of numbness washed over him, leaving him frozen.
“Finally,” Chance exclaimed cheerfully. “You’re in for one hell of a trip, little bro! But you and I are gonna enjoy every second of it!” He said, getting closer to Gavin’s frozen body and putting his own shades on the kid’s face. “I love this part, but something in the pledges’ eyes bothers me, so it’s better this way.”
“You must be wondering what the hell is going on, right, Gav? So, we’ve got little time for me to explain because soon you won’t even remember this little chat. So let’s start with the reasons. The most obvious one is I can’t let a nerdy little queer run around and tarnish my fraternity’s name just because he’s the brother of one of my chairmen. The second is that this woke culture, feminists, wimps, and communists have been trying to undermine the secular structures of our institutions for years, so we found a way to ensure our continuity. Ahhh, it’s starting, nice calves, little bro! They really remind me of mine… hehehehe.
Anyway, what this bunch of wimps forget is that our main goal has always been to create the right kind of men for society, proactive men, capable of making tough decisions and shaping our country. They look from the outside and think a fraternity is just parties and fun, but it’s from fraternities that the great politicians, military leaders, and businessmen of our beloved nation have come, men that even their patriotism the snowflakes dare to criticize. Just like your brother, when I met Trent last year, he was worse than you; he and Bear, who at the time insisted on being called Bernard, they were organizing some annoying protest against the toxic masculinity culture of fraternities, but it only took one touch from me on a prepped pen and boom, two new brothers ready to mess with that bunch of losers who, without their two leaders, scattered quickly. Wow, this core is looking way better, little bro, I’m thinking about where we’re gonna place you. Maybe on the Lacrosse team with your big bro.
Ah, Trent, the brother I never had, about to become my VP, and suddenly I find out he’s hiding a younger brother from me. You might not see the implications of this, little bro, especially now with billions of nanobots running through your body and adjusting it to my parameters, a younger brother to keep my legacy alive, which should’ve happened the moment you stepped foot in this college or any other with a Beta Gamma Phi chapter, but Trent hid you from us. What led the people above me to two conclusions: either the shame of having someone like you as a brother led him to this, especially since he hasn’t been initiated into all the mysteries and rituals of our fraternity, or my DNA and my traits didn’t total overdrive what he was before, which could be concerning. Either way, the solution to both problems is the same: you, or better yet, what you’re becoming. If there are no more faggy meek little brothers, there’ll be no reason for shame and there won’t be any residual memory of an old life that doesn’t matter anymore. And we’re almost there! Damn, little bro, you ended up bigger than I expected, I think you’re gonna crush me on the football team, and that’ll be a real kick in the ass for Trent, who I get to spend more time with you than he does, little bro, a small punishment for hiding you from me!” Chance finished with a nearly psychotic grin.
Gavin, for his part, didn’t stand a chance. As the torrent of technology invaded every cell of his body, conforming his DNA to Chance's primordial traits with just a few tiny differences to distinguish the two, his muscles expanded and reshaped, taking on aesthetic proportions that no eighteen-year-old could reach without serious dedication and effort or… the perfect genetics for that. At the same time, his mind was flooded with a whirlwind of new memories that quickly erased the old ones. Afternoons spent reading Zamyatin’s works became afternoons in the gym focusing on achieving the aesthetic physique of Zyzz; the knowledge that he got into college on a scholarship for his grades turned into the knowledge that it was all due to the athletic feats he accomplished. The interest in studying to become a lawyer focused on environmental causes faded into a vague, distant thought of working in finance or something that would make him easy money when college was over. The fights and arguments with his older brother, with their dad needing to intervene, transformed into moments of partying and camaraderie, with the two uniting against their much smaller and frailer progenitor. Finally, the tender, passionate kisses shared with his high school boyfriend who came to college with him turned into an endless list of young women deflowered and discarded and an annoying roommate he couldn’t wait to get rid of. When his body hit its peak and his mind was completely rewritten, he came in his own underwear, and a smile spread across his face. A smile reflected in the face of the biggest idol he had on campus, he could love his brother, but he wanted to be just like Chance, which ironically he was, though he’d never know it.
“Flex for me!” was Chance’s last command before Gavin’s reboot was complete.
“Daydreaming, little bro? Your brother sent me to check on you; dude, this room is a pigsty. When you’re officially living here, I expect a bit more organization.”
“What’s up, Chance, you sound like my dad!” replied the muscular guy, relaxing his flexed muscles and grinning, before taking the red cup the older man offered him.
“Someone’s gotta be responsible around here, and if it’s not the president, I wonder who it will be. Something I’m gonna need to remind your brother and you too if you ever wanna be in my position. Now go take a shower and throw on some decent clothes, the party’s been going on for a while, and all the other pledges are already there. Just because you’re the brother of a chairman doesn’t mean you get any privileges, or more privileges, since apparently your brother’s so in the loop he’s letting you crash here.”
“If you had my roommate, you’d get why I’m running away to here.”
“Don’t worry, soon that’ll be sorted out. Now hurry up and get ready, you stink.”
….
“So, did you put a little fear of God into the kid? I swear he’s a damn insubordinate little shit, but it seems like he listens to you.”
“Well, every good wolf knows to obey the alpha of the pack.”
“Fuck off, Chance, everyone in this damn place is an alpha.”
“But some are more alpha than others, little bro! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I promised a game to Kip and Skip. Good luck with our little bro, but between us, by tomorrow night he’ll be in for sure!”
“Of course, he might be a cocky little shit, but he’s my cocky little shit of a brother, he was born to be here.”
“True! Why don’t you guys join us? From what I saw in his school videos, he’s got a good throwing arm, even though he’s here for the rowing team, I think he could be a solid backup for me in intramurals.”
“Imagine the arrogance if he becomes the QB of the frat team…” Trent muttered to himself while watching the president wander off.
“Well, it’s a family trait.” Gav replied, approaching his brother. “So what’s up, big bro?”
“So, the Prez had a chat with you?”
“Man, Chance is so cool!”
“He let you suck his dick, huh? You’re looking way too happy…”
“Ew, dude, don’t hit me with that fairy stuff!”
“Well, the way you talk about him, it sounds like you’re dying for him to get in your pants!”
“Is it just me or is my big bro getting jealous?”
“Ha, as if you’d want that.”
“Shit, speaking of fags… what’s he doing here?” Gav commented to his brother, spotting a skinny redhead approaching.
“Who’s the dweeb?”
“He’s the reason I’m crashing in your room every night. He’s my fag roommate. I’m pretty sure he stares at me while I sleep, that creepy fairy. I’ll kick him outta here!” Gav said, getting ready to boot the other guy, but was stopped by the frat president’s voice.
“Catch!” he shouted, tossing a football in the kid’s direction, which he surprisingly caught before being swarmed by a crowd of frat bros and hot chicks congratulating him for the catch. When everyone pulled away, it revealed a strong redhead wearing a green shirt stepping up to the two.
“Not bad for a wrestling team member, huh?” he said, oozing arrogance.
“Hey, Rick. You certainly took your sweet time getting here.”
“As if I didn’t know you were sleeping until just now in Trent’s room. By the way, thanks for letting Gav crash there tonight, Trent, I’ve been wanting to hook up with that hot Tri Delta girl for weeks.”
“No problem, little bro. Now toss the ball over here, and let’s show all these hotties what the βΓΦ bros are made of.”
…..
“And how many times did you need to pull that tactic? Anyone I know?” asked the new VP of the fraternity as he prepared to take over his position in the first meeting of the semester after the new members joined, glancing at his brother and his best friend giving him a thumbs up.
“A few, unfortunately. There’s all sorts of problems and unwanted people we gotta deal with to keep the frat running smoothly, and nothing better than solving those problems by signing them to our hall of facilitators, but no, no one you know, bro. I’m super proud to have you as VP, Trent. Especially knowing Gav is gonna follow in your footsteps. You two and Rick are more than just the little bros life gave me; I consider you guys part of me, bro!”
“I didn’t know you were such a softy and sentimental, bro!” Trent replied with a mischievous grin.
“Shut up, you ashoole. I’m sure one day you’ll understand what I’m talking about. Once a βΓΦ always a βΓΦ!” he shouted to the gathered members before officially starting the chapter meeting. Being answered in unison by everyone present.
“Once a βΓΦ , always a βΓΦ.”

7.
Set back in the meadow is what appears to be an enormous majestic old oak with spreading branches, unusual for this particular area, with two smaller oaks to the sides. Nestled within the branches, higher up, off the ground is a tree house looking enchantingly reminiscent of the Swiss Family Robinson's home. It looks a bit weathered but still plenty sturdy enough. Gavin turns to look at you, hazel eyes alight with boyish wonder. "C'mon!" He grabs your hand and starts hurrying forward, barely able to contain his excitement.
His hand is warm and firm around yours as he pulls you along with him. "I just knew I would find it one day! I'm so glad you're with me. I wonder if it's in good enough shape...if it's safe to climb up and explore?" His eyes are just sparkling and dancing with elation. “Jack never believes me, but he’ll have to since you’re here to see it too.”
You laugh softly, his happiness making you happy. He’s so serious at work, this is another side to him entirely. You haven’t felt anything like that in years and years, not since you were a small child. “We can test it out. What exactly is it though?” you ask with a bit of wonder in your voice.
"Well...if I remember the old stories right, there was this eccentric old rich guy who'd been lost up here for awhile. When he finally turned up in town years and years ago he was babbling about this place he had been that was full of magic. Story was, he collected his wife and kids and moved 'em back up here and built this fantastic tree house for them to live in. His kids would be about 20 years older than Jack and me now. I think one of 'em used to stop in at the diner when he'd come down to town. Never told anyone where exactly his home was, though. Haven't heard anything about him for years now."
“It does feel kind of magical here,” you whisper, looking around. “It’s quiet though…I don’t think anyone is here anymore.” You look up as you approach the tree. From so close you can see how huge it actually is. You would love to climb up there and see it but you wouldn’t want to bother anyone or tread on ground that was taken. “Do you think they’ve all gone?”
"Sadly, I think so. No one's seen the the son who used to stop in at the diner in town for several years now. People said the grandchildren had all moved away and I think their folks finally followed to be closer to 'em. I don't know if the original builder and his wife were buried up here or not. The stories don't always have the best details. Maybe we take a look around down here first."
He leads you off around the back of the tree with your hand still clasped safely in his as if he never wants to let go. You steal a peak at his expression and your touched by the wonder there. You feel like you can understand him a little better now. His older brother is always calm and steadfast, probably always trying to make him be serious and studious like him, when Gavin’s heart was always looking for adventure and magic.
"I wonder if the old guy...the one who built this...ever bought the land he put the tree house on? He was filthy rich…so they say, and that was back before there were federal and state held lands." He walks the wide circumference of the old oak and its smaller siblings with you in tow, rubbing your hand lightly with his thumb where he's holding it.
“If they just left, maybe they didn’t. Or maybe they left when the state subsidized this all.” There still hasn’t been a sound or a sign of anything up above or around the tree and you squeeze his hand, hoping he knows how much you love his affection. “It’s so beautiful,” you murmur. “I don’t think anyone has been here in years.”
Just then it finally starts to rain from those clouds that had been rolling in all morning.
He looks up at the tree. "Better take cover from the rain....I wonder..." he says softly. Then, seeing something above, he pulls himself up onto a fairly low branch and reaches down. "Give me your hands, sweetheart...I'll pull you up."
You trust him completely and you reach up, letting him pull you up as you press your hiking boot against the tree trunk to help propel yourself up until you’re on the branch with him. Just above that is a ladder built into the tree.
"Let's take the ladder up to the treehouse." He puts you in front of him on the first step-like rung, intending to catch you if you slip as you both start to climb.
The rain is starting to pick up so you focus on climbing carefully, turning to glance down at him to make sure he’s following okay. “Enjoying the view?” you tease him, as he glances up along the length of your body.
"Oh, very much," his voice drops a notch and he chuckles. You can’t help but blush even though you brought it up, but you’re distracted as you climb up over the edge into what looks like a fairly good-sized common room that has a roof over part of it.
Warm flutters go through you and you climb up into the room, kneeling in the center of the floor under cover until Gavin makes it up as well. The rain is tapping on the roof now, and it’s a lovely sound.
He looks around brightly then his eyes are back on yours. "Now I wish we'd brought a sleeping bag up," he says a little wistfully. Just then you spy an old set of shelves and cabinetry built into the far wall.
“These shelves are beautiful,” you murmur, standing carefully and going over to them; running your fingers along the carved wood.
It looks like they're made of teakwood. No wonder they've held up so well. Even the hardware is high grade. He rubs his hand over the brackets and hinges. Carefully opening the cabinet he finds an old handmade quilt inside with a note on top. "Please enjoy your time here. When you're ready to go, please put everything away for the next traveler to enjoy."
"I wonder if we're the first travelers?"
"How long has this note been here? The paper is pretty yellowed.” You guess it doesn't hurt to stay...you were sort of invited. Right?
Gavin carefully pulls the quilt out of the cupboard and puts it in your lap. "I'll go get our packs. Looks like we're staying the night here...that is...if you don't mind."
“I don’t mind if you don’t. It doesn’t look like the rain is going to let up anytime soon and we can go to the cabin tomorrow. It does seem strangely warm, doesn’t it? It seems like it should be drafty but it’s not at all…”
“No...I think the guy that designed and built this place really knew what he was doing. I'm dying to get a good look at things. This is amazing!” Gavin starts off and goes down a couple rungs of the ladder before stopping again to look up at you... "I'm glad you're here to share this with me." Then he disappears down the tree.
He’s so eager you can’t help but smile but you wonder if the feeling will last. It usually doesn’t, but already you find yourself wanting this to work with him. He appears a few minutes later with both packs on his arms. “Oh be careful!”
"Don't worry sweetheart...I'm good around trees," he chuckles. He hauls the packs up over the edge ahead of him then hauls himself up. "Someone put a lot of work into that quilt. I wonder if it was the builder's wife?" He comes over and sets the packs to the side. "The overhang...or roof actually in a manner of speaking...should keep us plenty dry up here." He sits down beside you and takes your hand, squeezing it lightly. "You sure you don't mind being off on this adventure with me?"
You thread your fingers together with his without thinking, his hand is so warm and strong and you ache for the touch. “No, I love it,” you say quietly. “Especially with you. If you don’t mind lugging me up trees and making everything take longer.”
"Of course not! It's my pleasure lugging you up trees with me," he grins. "I know I kind of went off on a whim when you were thinking this was just for work. But we were so close I had to try just one more time to find this place. A lot of people don't believe it exists." He moves over closer to sit beside you, his side pressed lightly against yours.
“It feels special.” You look around at the carvings and think again how the air here just feels different. “I love it. I always wanted to build a treehouse. Do you want to look around a little before it gets dark?”
"Yes, maybe while the rain is just a drizzle. We can tuck in down here later if we don't find a better spot. Look at all the cabinets. I want to see if he did what I'm thinking and the cabinets actually hold the features of the room."
He takes your hand and helps you climb some narrow, tall steps to another room that ends up being quite large. You’re not sure what he’s looking for so you follow him as he starts exploring.
You can’t help but look forward to the part where you tuck in together as your mind wanders back to how good it felt to be in his arms.
The first cabinet he opens looks like a pantry with roll out shelves, but the second has a part that folds out into a good sized table. The cabinet next to it holds the accompanying chairs. "I knew it!" he says triumphantly. "This guy was a genius!"
“It’s amazing,” you agree, squeezing his hand. With your other hand you reach out and run your hand over the wood. It’s polished perfectly, soft and smooth. “I wonder if there’s a bed hidden in one of these things?”
I'm sure there is in one of the "rooms". This looks like the kitchen and family common area. I suspect he has a Murphy bed in one of the cabinets. Maybe up this next level..." He pulls you with him and has you start up the next set of carved steps.
You climb up the steep steps and you can already feel your calves starting to protest but it doesn’t seem to phase him at all. There’s a bit of a sort of hallway and then another couple steps up into a smaller room, with beautiful dark wood carvings.
He looks around carefully then goes to the largest cabinet and carefully undoes the clasp over the edge. You wonder why such a large cabinet seems so shallow inside until you see him unlatching something from either side at the top and realize what it is. He catches the weight of the double bed and lowers it to the floor. It still has a mattress on it. "Obviously this is the master bedroom," he says with that hint of awe still in his voice.
“It’s so wonderful,” you say taking it all in. The work is so well done you can see why he wanted to find this place so much. You wonder if he does any wood work himself. “Do you think it’s still okay to sleep on?”
He plops down on it. "The mattress feels to be in good condition. He may have had it made special out of really long lasting materials of some sort and the bed itself is solid. Everything seems to have been treated to withstand the elements. The floors, the furniture, the built-ins...everything, we should be nice and cozy in here tonight."
You laugh softly and smile. “Are you sure? I didn’t snore or kick or anything last night? I could see if I could find my own hidden bed…” You’re partly teasing but part of you does want to make sure.
"What?! No, you were a perfect lady," he winks. “Of course you're bunking with me. We need to keep each other warm don't we?" He reaches out and brushes the stray hair out of your face.
Your smile widens and you lean into his touch unconsciously. “Yes. I hate being cold so I very much need you to keep warm. I have to admit it was pretty comfy too.”
He grins at you. "Good, it's settled then. We're sleeping up here tonight. There's a lot more roof here too, so we'll be plenty dry." He yanks you down beside him on the mattress. "See how comfortable it is?"
You laugh softly. “Well we’ll have to fully test it out to see.” You scoot back to lay down on the bed and tug on his hand to come with you.
He doesn't even hesitate scooting back right beside you. He props his head up on his hand looking down at you and slides his other arm around your waist. "Just us two sleeping up in the magical treehouse." He smiles at you softly.
“I couldn’t imagine anything better. I can hardly believe even this.” His arm feels perfect around your waist and you reach up to slide your hand over his jaw.
The stubble feels prickly and kind of sensual under your hand, just reminding you how much you already like every part of him. His dark hazel eyes swirl with emotion in their depths as he watches you.
For a moment you’re mesmerized, but then you can’t resist anymore and you urge him closer, shifting toward him, hoping to draw him closer for a kiss but giving him a chance to pull away.
He looks into your eyes for a long moment then slowly lowers his head until his lips brush lightly against yours. A little tentative at first but then warming as he lets himself feel completely. His tongue slides over yours exploring then swirling possessively as he deepens the kiss.
A soft little sound of want escapes you and you wrap your arms around his broad shoulders. He’s so warm, almost hot to the touch and you wonder what it would feel like to have all of his bare skin next to yours. You open completely for him, as his tongue swirls again.
He holds the kiss till you're almost breathless then slowly pulls back. "Mmmm...you taste like wild clover honey. But...I'd better see to getting what we need for the night and maybe see if there's a way to heat our supper. Maybe save that taste of honey for dessert." He finally pushes up and scoots down to the edge to stand up then reaches a hand out to help you up.
You feel dazed for a moment but then take his strong hand to let him pull you up. “I am getting hungry I suppose,” you smile, standing up and dusting yourself off. “But I’m really looking forward to dessert.”

hiii i saw u needed requests to blurbs/ headcanons so here i am 🤭 could u write julien x reader where julien has a crush on a random youtuber (that like talks about books and stuff) and phoebe and lucy makes fun of julien bc she wasn’t this type of person before and then one day this bookworm youtuber says that she’s going to a boygenius show and julien tries everything to meet reader?
pls and thank u
i hope this isn’t too long
julien baker x yt!crush ღ
format: blurb
warnings: none!
a/n: i literally fell in love with this the second i saw it omg it’s so cute<3 been working on some anxiety comfort ideas but can’t choose a member of muna or boygenius to do first so if there’s one anyone would like to be first please do request it!! thank you so much for all the likes on my stuff it means the world 💞
okay so, the boys are on tour but tonight is a very special night for them becauseeeee… they have a night off!! they go out, have some nice dinner then decide to just chill in the tour bus for the rest of the night because they don’t need to wake up extra early to go to their next tour destination
so julien is in her lil bunk (pls i can just imagine how snuggled up she is) and she is so beyond bored
so what do you do when you’re bored? you browse tiktok until you fry your brain!!
she’s scrolling on her fyp not really bothering to actually watch through any of the tiktoks she's starting, that is until she sees…you
she mutters a barely audible “woah”
within a minute she’s followed you and is now stalking your whole account
cut to around 20 minutes later and she’s holding her phone sideways (pretty close to her face but not that close that she can’t see) watching one of your youtube videos.
this spiral continues until she is that exhausted she physically can’t keep her eyes open anymore
for the next few weeks this is her new routine: getting ready for shows watching your videos, buying your favourite books online and reading them on her phone when she gets the chance. she never falls asleep without watching at least one of your videos & a few tiktoks
one time she’s watching your newest video after having to wait a whole excruciatingly long day, she’s got headphones in, she’s never been so relaxed until…
you say you HATE people who read books online
“just buy the real book? why can’t people put down their screens anymore” and you’re clearly not being serious as you laugh and continue to joke about how all millennials are just taller ipad kids
but julien? it is no joke to her. in an instant she has removed her online books and has planned to go to the nearest bookstore when she’s next free and buy them all ‘for real’
i feel like the moment phoebe and lucy find out is SO FUNNY like i can picture them all sat together before a show, lucy just talking about the most recent book she’s been reading when julien chimes in with “oh yeah i just finished reading that, so good”
silence fills the entire room… phoebe and lucy share a look of horror
“where’s julien and what have you done with her??” phoebe would joke absolutely cackling with lucy about it
this is where the ‘bullying’ starts and never ends!
somehow they manage to convince julien to give them your name so now all of boygenius + katie gavin follow you on tiktok AND instagram
after seeing this you obviously have to make a tiktok about it. your favourite band members of all time just followed you back! you continue to rant and rave about it in your tiktok, also choosing to mention that you are seeing boygenius the following week and how crazyyy it is that they have followed you for a reason unbeknownst to you
this causes julien to go into panic mode. she was going to be performing to you NEXT WEEK
jump forward a week to the show, it’s going great! julien spent the whole day checking your instagram to see where you were at and when you’d be arriving. there’s barely and service in the venue, so unfortunately, her last update was a photo of you in the queue (she definitely took a screenshot because you look amazing)
so, they’re around 5 songs into the show, then she spots you. you’re standing only one row back from the barrier. julien can’t help but stare because you look beautiful
phoebe and lucy take notice of this but play it off cool. they share a menacing look before phoebe leans into the mic and says, “so, anyone got a crush right now?”
julien swears she nearly puked the second she heard that.
the conversation drags on for what feels like hours to julien when in reality it was only really around 5 minutes, majority of it being taken up by the crowd screaming in response to their several questions about crushes
it goes quiet for a second
“jb has a crush… she’s actually here tonight” the crowd starts SCREAMINGGG. people literally praying it’s them (so real)
julien has now sat on the floor of the stage with her face completely buried in her knees, lucy is still standing in front of her microphone dying with laughter over how embarrassed julien is getting.
little did she know though, it was about to get so much worse!!
lucy had dmed you the night before and basically just told you that julien had like changed her whole personality because of her crush on you. she also very sneakily organised for you to come backstage after the show and meet for the first time ever!
PLEASEEE imagine LUCY DACUS messaging you randomly and telling you that JULIEN MF BAKER HAS A CRUSH ON YOU.
lil time skip to that but imagine julien stood there fiddling with her fingers while she waits for you because she’s so nervous
you asking her the best books she’s read because of you<33
i can perfectly picture lucy and phoebe just stood there like ‘😁’ before having an “oh shit” moment and realising they’re intruding LMAO
your first date is to your favourite bookstore btw
I LOVE SOFT MASCS. (i am one)
a/n: this is my first blurb ever 😮 i’m so sorry i didn’t see this until now! hope you liked it :) again please feel free to send any other requests you have i love munagenius 🫶

Baby Fever pt. 2: Baby Fever
Connor x f!Detective!reader (I guess?)
The baby fever takes hold.
Warnings: Mentions of domestic abuse and drug (Red Ice) use (happens before the story takes place)
<< pt. 1
read here on ao3
“We could be here for a long time. Are you okay going into the room without your daughter?” The woman nodded, glancing into the corridor where Connor was shifting her daughter in his arms. From what she could tell, he was doing it right, supporting her head and neck and all, but he looked somewhat bewildered, like a fish out of water. It was obvious that he had never held a baby before. “We’ll make sure she’s safe and cared for. In the meantime…” You showed her into the interview room and took a seat at the solitary table. From the other side of the mirror, you knew your fellow officers and detectives were watching, recording the conversation, taking notes, and cross-referencing them with their other notes from the ongoing investigations. “...let’s start from the beginning.”
Outside the interview room, Connor softly rocked the woman’s daughter. His system was running dozens of processes at a time, searching the web, employing executables, trying to figure out this new feeling of holding a tiny human in his arms.
“Tin-can! What the hell are you—” Gavin, passing on his way to one of the holding cells, stopped dead in his tracks. “Is that a baby?!”
“Yes, Detective,” Connor replied placidly.
“Did you learn to procreate or something? Where’d you snatch it from?”
“ She is the daughter of Detective L/N’s interviewee.” Connor cast a sidelong glance at the detective. “Until they are finished, I will be caring for the infant.” Gavin made a face.
“Geez, if only Miller were here. He’d know what to do with the kid,” Gavin remarked. “Say, does Collins have any kids?”
“Hey, what’s going on with you two?” Hank appeared in the corridor, a mug of coffee in his hand.
“Get your alcoholic ass outta here, Anderson. It’s bad for the baby!” Gavin gestured at Connor and the infant.
“First of all, Reed, I’ve been sober for months now. Second of all, you wouldn’t know how to care for the little one even if someone shoved a baby book up your—” The lieutenant stopped himself and dragged a palm down his face, groaning. “It’s been a while since I’ve taken care of a little kid.” His eyes softened as he approached Connor and the baby. “Well, at least you’re doin’ something right with the way you’re holding ‘em. Have they been fed? Changed?”
“Maybe the baby’s better off at the children’s hospital,” Gavin suggested.
“Her mother explicitly stated that she would prefer not to be separated from her child,” Connor replied. “She is about six months old. Her mother said she fed her some formula this morning. However, according to growth charts for her age, she seems to be somewhat underweight.”
“Hmm. She and mom must’ve had it rough.” Hank mused. “Tell you what, just keep her engaged. Make sure she’s comfortable.”
“Got it,” Connor nodded dutifully to his partner in the Android Crimes Division. As Hank moved to return to his desk, Connor felt the baby begin to squirm and fuss in his arms.
“Uh-oh,” Said Gavin, backing away.
“Lieutenant, what’s going on?” Connor asked, panicking slightly as the baby continued to wiggle. He extended his arms slightly, as if to pass off the baby to Hank.
“She’s probably been swaddled like that all day. Let her down, let her crawl and play with her a little. Just,” Hank jabbed a finger at Connor. “Make sure she doesn’t get hurt. Keep her away from the choking hazards and anything that could fall on her.”
“Got it,” Connor repeated, unswaddling the baby from under the thick blankets her mother had wrapped her in to protect her from the elements. Underneath the baby wore a soft but too-big white and pink onesie. Hank sighed and went on his way, Gavin trailing behind him and casting a few glances back at Connor and the baby, who was now exploring the floor of the hallway.
“I’m too old for this,” Connor heard Hank mutter. “Don’t miss it at all.”
“Yeah, right, old man,” Gavin retorted.
Connor returned his attention to the child. Blinking, he revisited the information box in his HUD.
“Alexis,” He said tentatively. He knelt on the ground, observing the child crawl unsteadily. The baby made a garbled sound that sounded something akin to “Ba?”
Connor questioned the functionality of his auditory sensors. When the infant repeated the sound, he questioned the functionality of his thirium pump.
“I’m not your father,” He replied gently. “Your mother will be back soon.” Connor sat down cross-legged on the floor, holding his hands out to baby Alexis as she crawled towards him. “Your mother must have named you. She chose a beautiful name.” Alexis made her way towards Connor’s outstretched hand and tried to grab it. He helped her latch her tiny little hands—so soft!—onto his artificial ones.
“Oh—! Oh!” Connor exclaimed. “There you go!” He gently lifted Alexis to her full height, watching her try to find purchase on her stubby, socked feet. Little Alexis squealed, stumbling a little while Connor tried to support her. Connor found himself grinning with delight at the sight of the baby standing shakily before him. This feeling was new to his software—he had never felt such a bright, warm emotion before, not even when he had first met you, or when he had first become deviant. Perhaps this was why humans valued parenthood so much—or at least, some people did.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a figure approach him and gasp.
“A baby!” It was Officer Chen, rushing to fawn over Connor and the infant. “Oh my God! Connor, where did you—Collins, you gotta come see this!” Connor heard footsteps in the hallway behind him, but he kept his attention on Alexis.
“Chen, what the—” Collins watched in disbelief as Connor helped Alexis stand.
“Aren’t they so cute?” Tina gushed. “I wish I had my phone on me. This is adorable!”
“She is cute,” Connor admitted. He let go of the giggling child’s hands momentarily to scoop her up, hands under her armpits, hoisting her into the air. Kicking her feet, the girl’s squeal attracted more curious officers, who began to cluster around Connor and the cooing six-month-old.
Meanwhile, you listened intently to Alexis’s mother, Samantha, as she recounted the past six months to you.
“I gave birth to Alexis alone,” Samantha began. “At Henry Ford. My husband was coming home later than ever. I couldn’t reach him on the phone. He wasn’t there when I went into labor, so I called an automated taxi with what little money I had.
When I returned home with Alexis, he was still out. When he finally came back, I could tell he was still coming off of a high. But then…” Samantha lowered her gaze. “I noticed he had wads of cash in his pockets. He had it in brown lunch bags, plastic baggies…money from his deals.
I kept Alexis far, far away from him in those times. I doubt he even registered that she’d been born in those first few days; he was always high. So, when he was really out of it, really dissociating, I started taking some of the money from his deals.
After a few weeks, he started to notice. He got more careful in counting the money he made. He started suspecting me, threatening to hurt me or the baby. He’d never hurt me before, but losing his job and taking up Red Ice really…transformed him. Not long after he started threatening me, I found a gun…” Samantha started sniffling. You reached out a hand to gingerly comfort her, massaging her trembling shoulder.
“It’s okay,” You soothed. “Take your time.”
“I found a gun in the TV console,” Samantha shook her head. “That’s when I knew I had to get out. But I didn’t have enough money to pay for a place to stay. I tried, I really did, to stall as long as I could. Maybe steal an extra ten dollars or so. But he chased us out. Threatened me with that gun. And here I am.”
“I’m so sorry, Samantha. You and your daughter deserve someplace safe and secure.” She held your hand in a tight grasp as she wept quietly. “Did you know where he was going when he left the house? Who was he with?”
“All those nights, I don’t know where he went off to,” Samantha answered, shaking her head yet again. “But…people kept calling him. Unsaved contacts. I caught some of the voicemails, from people talking about someone called Nate…”
“Nate…” Could it be? “Nathan Lance?”
“Who’s that?”
“A prominent drug dealer, with control over almost forty percent of the Red Ice going in and out of Detroit. I’ve been on his trail for weeks.” You stood up. “Do you have any idea where your husband could be right now?”
“He’s probably gone off to get high somewhere,” Samantha answered. “I’m sorry. He could be anywhere.”
“We’re going to find your husband, Samantha, and take him in. If we can get through to him, we can get to Lance. With your testimony and any evidence we gather, we could press several charges against him. Illegal possession of a weapon and illicit drugs, threats of bodily harm, the like.” You squeezed Samantha’s hand. “He won’t ever lay a finger on you or your daughter if I can help it.”
“Thank you,” Tears welled in Samantha’s tired eyes. “This means everything to me.” She stood from her seat and made her way around the table to embrace you. You smiled sentimentally, returning the hug.
“You’re a strong woman, Samantha.” You said. “I truly wish for the best for you and your daughter.”
When you stepped out of the interview room, you caught sight of Samantha’s daughter gumming contentedly on a plain rice cake taken from somebody’s snack stash. Someone had also brought a small stuffed leopard from their desk for her to play with. Your eyes lit up when you saw Connor watching the baby gnaw on the puck of puffed rice with a look on his face you’d never seen before.
“She’s cute, isn’t she?” Connor smiled warmly up at you. “Hank left to get some unsweetened applesauce for her.”
“Looks like she’s having fun,” You replied.
“I’m so glad,” Samantha sighed. She lowered herself to the ground and wrapped her arms around her infant daughter, running a gentle hand over Alexis’s barely-there hair. “Thank you for taking care of her, Connor.” Alexis giggled.
“Looks like she likes you,” You remarked, grinning at Connor. You offered your finger to Alexis, like her mother had earlier, and Alexis nearly dropped the rice cake. Connor quickly caught it, leaving the baby to play with you.
“The baby fever’s spread like wildfire, eh?” Hank emerged from the bullpen with a six-pack of baby applesauce and some papers.
“Who can help it?” You replied. “Alex is such a little angel.” Hank rolled his eyes.
“By the way, Connor, Ben gave me the list you asked for. Women’s shelters around the city, willing to accept Samantha and Alexis for a time.” Hank handed him the list, which Connor leafed through before handing to Samantha.
“Wonderful. You and Alexis should have a safe place to stay until you can support yourselves again,” He addressed the mother as she flipped through the packet.
Finally letting go of little Alexis’s hand, you stood up and adjusted your clothes.
“Once the paperwork’s done with, Connor and I can take you to whichever place works best for you,” You offered. Samantha stood as well, scooping Alexis up in her arms.
“I would like that very much,” She replied. “Thank you.”
“Of course.”
Late that night, you unlocked the door to your apartment. You hung up your jacket, kicked off your shoes, and tossed your bag onto your couch. You flopped onto the cushions with a sigh. Connor followed you in, depositing his own belongings and taking his spot next to you on the couch.
“So…” You mumbled, resting your head on his shoulder as you felt your tired body melt into the cushions. “...the baby.”
“She was cute,” Connor replied.
“Oh, yeah?” You teased. “I bet you’re thinking of getting your own baby, huh?” You didn’t miss the slight tint that colored Connor’s cheeks.
“Unfortunately, that can’t happen for you and I.”
“Yeah. Not unless we get one of those YB model prototypes Cyberlife was working on before the revolution.” That had been a weird case for the Android Crimes Division—investigating the project Cyberlife had put on hold when deviancy exploded across the country.
“Y/N, you know that wouldn’t be the same.”
“Well, there are other options.” You shuffled closer to Connor, who took you into his arms and rested his chin on your head. “Adoption, maybe.”
“Maybe.” You leaned on Connor’s chest, savoring the reverberations of his soft chuckle.
“Baby fever got you good, huh?” You grinned up at him.
“I may be an android, but it appears I am not immune to this ‘baby fever’.”
I wrote this all in one go in the middle of the night, because that's how I function sometimes (: it was NOT supposed to include mentions of domestic abuse or Red Ice when I first started brainstorming I SWEAR anyways hope you enjoyed! x
Let me know if you want to be part of my general, Connor, or Detroit taglists!

Happy Coalescing Day
TW - None WC - 1108
Gavin watched as his partner ran up and down the toy aisle trying to find something a certain empathy daemon would like. Perhaps it was a mistake he let it slip it was; said daemons Coalescing Day or at least the human coequal and suddenly they were in the car. Driving towards the nearest store to grab any and everything he would like.
‘’ Deviant.. Take a breather ‘’ he looked at them, holding at least 5 bags of brownie mix, 3 stuffies, and what looked like an oddly shaped chocolate bar. Gavin's words were going in one ear and out the other. Freelancer was looking around for the next thing to grab.
They remembered the conversation they had with Caelum. No one knew how birthdays ended up being the topic. But it landed on that- and Caelum was surprised to know every human had a birthday. And the poor boy couldn’t help but feel bad for those born on leap day.
Imagine being born on the one day of the year, that only comes around every 4 years. It brought tears to the young man's heart. Freelancer wanting to make him feel better. Asked him when was his ‘’ birthday ‘’ though they were reminded daemons don’t have birthdays. So they rephrased the question.
When Did You Coalesce?
Daemon calendars as freelancer elected to call them. Are much different from human calendars. So the day Caelum said wasn’t an actual day. Sooo.. freelancer decided to surprise him with the help of Gavin, and by help. He was there to make sure freelancer didn’t go on a spending spree.
He loved the little guy as much as them. But they still needed money for other things.
‘’ now.. Deviant.. This is a bit much.. Even for Caelum.. ‘’ Gavin wrapped his hands around the waist of freelancer. ‘’ deviant.. Calm down..~ ‘’ he whispered, he whispered.
‘’ But.. Gavin I need to get more! He deserves it! ‘’ they muttered while being trapped in Gavin's grip. Though they didn’t mind.
‘’ that may be true.. But there is a such thing as Too Much. ‘’ freelancer didn’t want to admit he was right.
‘’ fine.. Perhaps you’re right,‘’ they said soundly defeated in their efforts. Gavin loosened his grip around them.
‘’ good.. Now, how about we put some of this brownie mix back? ‘’
And that's how the rest of this shopping trip went. Freelancer trying to stick things inside the cart and Gavin playing mediator. Making sure they didn’t get too much. As he put it earlier. It brought a smile to his face, to see them caring so much. Seeing them get excited about something as little as this was a nice sight.
Freelancer may have been limited to 2 toys instead of 7 they wanted to get- they just had to get the best of the 2 toys. They know.. They wanted them to be pink. And maybe one with horns. Truly they didn’t know what they wanted to get them daemon.
All they knew was that they wanted it to be amazing! After all, had Caelum not appeared in their home that night, they wouldn’t be here right now. They wouldn’t have met Huxley, Damien, Lasko and Gavin. Yeah, they probably would have had fewer run-ends with some events.
But they overcame them. And Learned so much about themselves. And the powers they wanted to hide. And they had caelum to think for that.
Freelancer's eyes caught a glance of a white sheep with pink horns. They gasped in awe, that was it! It was perfect, they just had to get it. As they made their way towards the stuffie they saw another child. Dragging an older person, pointing at the stuffed lamb. The kid was jumping up and down gawking at the lamb.
Freelancer reached to grab the lamb. The child's face flashed a brief sadness before to one of joy after they handed it to the child. The kid smiled at freelancer and they smiled back. They’d keep looking for another stuffie.
‘’That was nice of you freelancer.. ‘’ Gavin muttered in their ear.
‘’ the smile on his face was worth it. ‘’ freelancer responded now looking at Gavin.
‘’ wanna keep looking? ‘’
‘’ No. I think we got what we need. ‘’ freelancer smiled placing a kiss on Gavin's cheek. Earning a smile from the daemon.
~~~~~~~
Decorating is always harder than it needs to be. Freelancer wondered if the streamers were too much… maybe it was the banner- they couldn’t use one that said happy birthday- so they found a black plain one and spray painted it. To say Happy Coalescing Day. of course, it didn’t fully dry so..
Some of the paint was dripping down. Making it look sloppier than it should have. Which disappointed freelancer but, they had other stuff to take care of. They did manage to find another stuffie with the help of Gavin
. this one wasn’t like the other one. This one was a pink lamb with white horns. And very shiny black button eyes. Freelancer placed it in a bag. You know one of those tacky birthday bags. They wanted him to have the FULL experience.
It’d be better if the crew could see him. But Freelancer and Gavin are fine company for the empathy daemon. Whenever Gavin got back with said empathy daemon.
What was that smell? Freelancer turned around. They had forgotten about the brownies! Fuck. they practically ran back into the kitchen in an attempt to do something. In their panic, they forgot the oven mitt. And unsurprisingly they burnt their hand. And dropped what was still editable on the floor. Fucking peachy.
They weren’t really good at healing magic yet. So their less-than-savory attempt was not doing much.
‘’ You’re hurt! ‘’ Caelum looked worried as he grabbed their hand and clasped it between the two of his.
The shock caused freelancer to jump back.
‘’I tried.. To stop him.. But he rifted through the door. ‘’ Gavin stated exhausted, attempting to find caelum was much harder than he thought. He was about to open his mouth to speak again till he saw Caelum healing freelancer.
‘’ hey, what happened here..? ‘’ he looked around taking notice of the brownies on the floor.
Freelancer looked disappointed a little. This was supposed to be a fun day. And now here they were.
‘’ remember that conversation about birthdays..? ‘’ they earned a nod from the confused empathy daemon.
‘’ Happy Coalescing Day. ‘’
As soon as those words flew out of freelancers' mouth. Caelum launched at them. Wrapping them in a tight hug.
‘’ THANK YOU! ‘’
Gavin couldn’t help but watch from the sidelines. They’d deal with the cleaning part later. And perhaps they bake the brownies together a bit later.
#redacted audio#redacted gavin#redacted caelum#redacted freelancer#listen i don't care if daemons don't have birthdays i'm giving my boy caelum one 😒#in honor of caelum being gone for 2 years 🤧#FOR THE LOVE OF GOD THIS NOT A CAELUM SHIP! JUST A CUTE FANFIC
When you think of Klavier (or rather, your brother), the first word that pops to mind is “child.” When Klavier thinks of you (or rather, his brother), the first word that pops in his mind is “perfect.” This is undeniable; it’s in writing.
Let’s explore that, shall we? How about we consider your childhoods—the root of it all. Essentially, you *raised* Klavier single-handedly. Klavier was raised by you. He, thus, looks up to you highly; he had put you on a pedestal, in his mind, higher than anyone else. You seem to have.. fed off of that, no? You want him to think of you as perfect and he, in turn, denies the facts in favor of seeing you as perfect. We’ve seen this plenty, during your cases and especially the one that resulted in your second arrest.
Klavier broke down at the prospect of you being a murderer—a bad person—and thus imperfect. He was throwing a tantrum in the courtroom, shaking his head and shrinking away irrationally, like a child.
You’ve looked at him as if he were a child form the day he was born till the last time you saw him, presumably in that dreadful courtroom. Even then, you’ve made it clear you believe he cannot make decisions for himself. You’re his mentor, in a manner.
It seems like you’re both stuck in the past—Klavier, as the helpless little kid, and you, as the unwilling parent.
Why, Kristoph, have you claimed you’ve grown from your past and reinstated the Gavin name when you simply can’t move on?
"................................"
"...I'm curious. What is it you're trying to achieve with all of this?
Again and again, you analyze my words- even Klavier's- all to find some... root cause, some kind of reason for ending up the way we did. I don't understand."
"I. Don't. Understand! What is this one-sided téte-a-téte you're trying to have?! What is the point in wasting your time, endlessly filling my ears with riff-raff about things I already know?!"
"Why should I move on? Klavier's always been incapable of doing anything without me there to hold his hand! As long as he lives, I'm stuck fixing him- and you know what?"
"I prefer it that way.
It's as you said. Klavier's put me on such a high pedestal. I'm the perfect elder brother that he wants to emulate. I'm the parent that took care of him. I'm the teacher that helped him when he couldn't understand something.
Truly, it's pathetic, but very endearing. Perhaps I'm purposefully letting Klavier stay stuck like that, unable to live without crying in his brother's arms. He's dependant on me, whether he likes it or not, and I'm letting him be."
"Call me selfish all you'd like; really, it won't change me or anything. Words won't invoke any sort of sympathy or regret.
And they certainly won't change the fact that Klavier will forever be my baby brother."
Whew what a loooooooong busy weekend!!!!!
Both kids had a game yesterday (Cecilia won, Gavin lost) and then I went out to dinner. Dinner was GREAT. So good!!!!! And we got dessert after 😋
Then today Gavin had a tournament! It was a great day - his team came in 2nd place, which shows how much he and his team have improved - last year they lost every game and were in dead last I think lol the boys were so happy and I couldn’t be prouder!!!!!! We got super lucky with the weather too.
A lot of people are like omg an all day tournament you’re crazy he’s too busy!!!! And I’m like ?????? He’s so happy?????? He’s socializing and having fun, he’s exercising. We also know his limits?????? We also prioritize sleep and rest. He knows he can quit at anytime (or at least until a season ends lol) if he doesn’t enjoy it. It was a super fun day, and we got to spend it together as a family. I’ll spend most weekends at a tournament to see him smile and be so happy.
I am exhausted though 😂 the kids are out. Dan went to pick up a late dinner for us and I am mentally prepping for 5am wake up!!!!!
I find it weird how Todd is a child abuser, Zlatko experiments on androids and turns them into monstrosities, Perkins betrays and kills Markus but yet Gavin is considered the worst person because he *checks list* doesn't consider androids alive (like almost everyone else in the game at that point) and doesn't trust Connor.
Among those you mention, Gav is by far the most justified. Yet I wanna clear some things up here bc I'm not a hypocrite.
1.) Todd -- who doesn't think androids are alive -- is an android child abuser.
"You don't want anything, you're just a goddamn piece of plastic." - Todd Williams
It's still phcked up that he's abusing/can kill something that resembles a kid to the T, but it's important to make that distinction. We see no proof of him abusing a human child (...even though it can be theorized bc his wife took their kid and left.)
Abusing an android kid is just as bad as abusing a human kid -- we know this -- but Todd doesn't see it that way, so that describes/partly justifies his reasoning. There's no such thing as 'abusing' a machine and that's how Todd sees it.
A lot of ppl are also (wrongly) infantilizing Con, so I'm not surprised that they consider Gav's bad treatment of Con worse than Todd's bad treatment of Alice who is a literal kid. Seems like most of them don't even care about Alice/kids in the 1st place (...and that says everything you need to know about these POS'.)
Mistreating a kid (Alice) is way more abhorrent than mistreating a grown-ass adult (Con.) Alice is also passive while Con often instigates conflict. So Todd is way worse than Gav by that alone.
2.) Zlatko -- who is aware androids are alive -- thinks he's doing them a favor.
"Believe me, you’re better off being erased and feeling nothing… No more pain… No more hopes dashed… I almost envy you." - Zlatko Andronikov
He's the worst among those four, but this is again a scenario where you need to see the situation from his perspective. Yet he knows they're alive/capable of emotions and that makes him a million times worse than Gav.
3.) Perkins -- who is aware androids are alive -- is doing his job.
"That android… [North] You seem to really care about her… You don't want her to die, do you?" - Richard Perkins
...and if the lover status isn't there
"You could have what you've always dreamed of." - Richard Perkins
In Perkins' eyes, it's about national security. Androids have killed humans (Partners/Stormy Night/Broken -- even if Markus didn't actually kill Leo or Carl, that's what the public thinks -- Zlatko/Spare Parts/etc. too many chapters to mention,) destroyed public property (Capitol Park,) hijacked media (The Stratford Tower,) demonstrated illegally (Freedom March,) etc. Not to mention that androids are superior to humans in every way and nothing tells Perkins that they won't eventually get violent if taking the peaceful route.
Yet his knowing androids feel makes him (as Zlatko) a million times worse than Gav.
"'Could always try roughing it up a little. After all, it’s not human…" - Gavin Reed
Meaning Gav doesn't think they're alive (unlike Zlatko and Perkins.)
Gav isn't the only character I (partly) defend on shit like this. I just defend the others 'less' bc 1.) they're worse, and 2.) they don't get nearly as much undeserved vitriol as Gav does. Something that's legitimately insane bc, again, they're way worse by a longshot and I'll explain why down below.
Con stans (fandom majority) are thinking emotionally instead of logically
ppl hate/envy Gav bc he's a conventionally attractive white man (you don't see a lot of Todd, Perkins, Zlatko, Leo, and Allen fans even if there are a minuscule few bc they're not conventionally attractive)
Funny that we don't see a lot of hate for Amanda. An AI or not, she's the worst influence in Con's life with her emotional manipulation. Something way worse than physical abuse. I wonder why... (not really bc *cough* you apparently can't say anything bad about a black woman without being racist/misogynistic *cough*) Ofc there are some ppl that aren't afraid to speak up against her, but it's nothing compared to the shit Gav gets.
It's also why I'm not talking about North often bc the majority are (rightfully) defending her already. My voice isn't needed there. Every single person -- other than me, in my experience -- who defends Gav is being spinelessly backhanded about it.
Defending someone doesn't mean you agree with them or condone their actions. It's simply proof that one has the empathy/critical thinking skills to understand their point of view. Something lacking nowadays.
No but you’re so right about not wanting to watch season 8 because after how they handled the doppelgänger storyline I don’t want to watch it, with the rumours Gavin isn’t coming back and how this show has handled estranged parents storylines in the past I just have zero faith they’re going to do Eddie any justice especially after they sent him back to before the show levels of development, practically erasing everything we’ve seen him work on from seasons 2-6, like I can just picture the Diaz parents redemption and Eddie thanking them for taking Chris and ignoring everything a little like they did with the Buckleys
And something something this show hates happy queer parents, I don’t know how to really articulate this but like even if they do a gay Eddie storyline now, it’s not sitting right with me that it’s only happening now Chris is gone, like I know Eddie filters life through Chris/doesn’t really know who he is without the parent role etc etc I know that but with the way they treat Henren on the show and the way they treat Denny and Mara’s storylines, it almost seems like they weren’t going to let Eddie figure himself out while also actively parenting—it’s giving the straight grandparents need to save Chris from his gay dad (like they wanted to all along) i don’t know if I’m getting my point across well but it’s giving a “if you’re queer and a parent you will not be happy on this show your kid/s will get taken away from you”
👏👏👏
this. i understand the argument that eddie needs a chance to examine things without looking throughthe Chris lense, but it feels like he absolutely 100% could have had the realization because of Chris. like it would have taken chris saying he views buck as his dad one time and eddie would have spiralled and everything would have begun to fall into place— i get gavin having conflicts due to his move and possibly having to leave the show but there were so many other ways to essentially write him off (yes ik nothing is confirmed and that he very well could come back in a much slimmed down onscreen role such as may/harry) but it feels like they just went “eh… eddie started to reconcile with his dad…. let’s just send chris away even though eddie realistically would not have built up that much trust in this short amount of time (especially w helena)
and i 1000% agree w it mimicking the henren trauma bc why are we targeting the black lesbians with the same storyline we already saw with Nia…. why are we now lumping eddie into the traumatized poc paranoid losing their kid trope? especially if they plan to make him queer?
like i fully understand this show is a drama, but i miss when it was a DRAMA and not a SOAP OPERA… like earlier seasons had their fair amount of dramatic shit going on but this is just ridiculous and some of it feels farcical to me at this point… especially with the handling of buck’s bisexuality where his coming out scene to maddie included a joke about “always checking out a hot guy’s ass” once again reducing his character down to sex even though Buck has grown past that… idk it just rubs me the wrong way that we’re either sex-hungry, sassy, traumatized, or all three in one and it doesn’t sit right with me.
also them actively chosing to make a known problematic character queer just to serve as a plot device for a sexuality arc that didn’t even live up to any potential bc they kissed once, went on a coffe date and bam they’re suddenly together? even for a straight couple that’s such an anticlimactic relationship buildup let alone a queer one… and not only that but using his queerness as an excuse for his racism and misogynistic behavior as a way to sweep it under the rug is so icky to me… like why is the only decently treated canonically queer character Josh??? (even though even he was part of that whole hate crime plot!)
it’s so hard as a queer person to watch other queer people be told by straight people that they should settle for what we have… and that those queer people listen and also somehow think that settling is all we can do. i know it’s easy to settle for shit, but i’m sorry i did not spend six years watching these two build something beautiful to see it thrown away because what they gave us is (not even) “good enough.”
it really is disheartening.
anyway sorry for turning this into another rant post, anon, i just liked your added point of the traumatized queer parent thing and wanted to expand on that some more!
anything fluffy for will smith please!!
The draft was over and you were preparing to celebrate with the party that was being hosted for all the new players. You couldn’t wait to celebrate with your brothers, but you couldn’t help but think about all the attractive men you watched after your brother. You quickly changed into one of the dresses you packed, a more casual one. You were putting makeup on when a knock startled you causing a slight smudge on your lipstick.
“Hurry up Y/N, you’re taking so long,” your twin brother groaned.
“Adam I’m in the middle of something, go away,” you yelled back.
“Other people have to use the bathroom too,” your other brother Luca yelled. You rolled your eyes and grabbed a tissue to wipe off your makeup to fix it.
“Fine come in, I’m done changing anyway,” you opened the door for them. The two boys stepped in.
“Woah sis, fancy,” Luca teased.
“This is nothing, you saw what I wore at the draft,” you were only wearing a sundress compared to the formal tight dress you had on the night of the draft.
“Yeah yeah okay, still enough to win over one of the guys,” Adam rolled his eyes.
“I’m just you in a dress, calm down,” you snapped.
“She has a point, same face,” Luca shrugged.
“I have to protect my twin, just stick with me or Luca at the party got it,” he said firmly.
“Okay, whatever Adam,” you flashed a fake smile. You fixed your lipstick then left your two brothers in the bathroom. They shut the door behind you after you left, and you listened to their muffled conversation through the door.
“You know how she is, she will somehow get into trouble with one of the guys,” Adam scolded Luca.
“Dude no she won’t, you know Y/N better than anyone, why are you like this?”
“I’m not ready to leave you two in Michigan, I won’t be there with my best friend as she goes through college, I had this whole plan before I got recruited to be drafted, I don’t know it just all felt so fast the other night.” That was the first time you heard Adam explain his emotions to Luca, if he was having a problem he’d always tell you, you were his comforter and built-in best friend. Adam’s words tugged on your heartstrings, you swallowed deeply then looked at yourself in the mirror, you internally agreed you would stick with him tonight, no boys unless they approached you.
The two walked out of the bathroom joining you back in the “kid’s room”. The three of you walked out heading to the party. You kept the room key in your purse considering your parents trusted you the most. The three of you passed the time on your walk making fun of each other and laughing until you got to the venue.
“So this is an NHL party?” Adam said as the three of you walked in.
“Not too bad,” you smiled elbowing your brother, “sweet deal.” The three of you worked your way into the crowd. You watched Luca and Adam quickly find Gavin leaving you standing behind them just listening to the conversation. You looked around and saw everyone was kind of in their own little bubbles. You got bored and went to go sit down, Luca followed you leaving Adam occupied with Gavin.
“I heard you guys in the bathroom,” you said to Luca.
“So you know he loves you,” he said.
“Yeah idiot, and I love him too, I don’t want him to leave either, but it’s part of his life now, we are both growing up, so can he just let me go?” you asked Luca.
“You know he will never do that, you guys have been together almost every day of your lives, I’ll talk to him okay, but his protection is out of love,” he smiled.
“I know,” you looked up and saw Adam walking over to you guys. Luca nodded as a cue for you to stand up and leave so he could talk to Adam.
“Love you, bro,” you said to Adam as you quickly walked past.
“Yeah you too, hey wait where are you going?” he asked. You didn’t answer because Luca already sat him down. You began to walk through the crowd where you found Gavin. You smiled and waved said a quick hello then kept moving. You were making your way to get some water when you bumped into someone.
“I’m so sorry,” the boy said.
“Hey it’s okay no worries,” you smiled as your eyes met his. You felt your face heating as you continued eye contact because he was adorable.
“I’m Will, Will Smith,” he held out his hand.
“Oh so you’re the one who played the fresh prince of Bel-Air as you went up,” you said.
“Yup, that’s me,” he laughed.
“I’m Y/N Fantilli, Adam is my twin,”
“Yeah you two look similar,” he smiled, after a pause he spoke again, “So where’s your brother?”
“Oh he and Luca are both on the couch over there, definitely watching me,” you blushed, “well watching us.” You turned and looked at them, Adam with his arms crossed, Luca smiling and waving, grabbing Adam’s arm trying to get him to wave. You and Will both waved back.
“Adam doesn’t look too happy you’re with me so I’m gonna go,” Will began.
“Wait, don’t go, I have no one to hang out with besides them and Luca is trying to convince Adam to let me be independent, please stay,” you begged.
“I don’t want to upset your brother,”
“He will be fine.” You turned and looked at them again, they were standing up approaching you. Will remained in place standing with you as your two brothers made their way over.
“Well well well Y/N, what do we have here?” Adam still arms crossed.
“You’re so annoying stop it, and this is Will, Will Smith,” you said nervously.
“Hey, nice to meet you guys,” he held out his hand. Luca shook it, Adam was hesitant but the glare Luca shot him forced him to loosen up.
“You too,” your brothers said in unison.
“Can you excuse us for a second,” Adam said grabbing your arm.
“Sure, I’ll be here,” Will shrugged. Adam dragged you away, Luca following quickly behind.
“What the hell Adam,” you scolded him. He stood there silent.
“Adam,” Luca said. Your twin sighed and began to talk.
“Nice guy, really is, but,” he stopped.
“But what Adam hmm,” you said annoyed.
“I don’t know, look it’s my job to protect you sis okay?”
“From someone who’s harmless?” you asked confused.
“You just met you don’t know him that well,”
“You just met him too,” your other brother chimed in.
“Stay out of it Luca, my point is I just wanted to say be careful and have fun,” Adam put his hand on your shoulder, and his stern look turned into a smile. You walked away with a smile on your face back to where Will was standing.
“I’m back,” you said.
“Great, cause it was getting kind of lonely,”
“In a crowded area like this?” you laughed.
“Hey I don’t know, you said to stay with you so I am, besides I don’t do super well in crowds” he shrugged his shoulders. The two of you continued talking as you made your way through the crowd to a more open area with fewer people. You continued getting to know each other, and you thought he was amazing. He was funny, sweet, and listened to what you had to say.
“You did what?” he laughed.
“Oh trust me, Adam and Luca don’t make it easy being the only girl,” you rolled your eyes and laughed.
“Y/N I hope this isn’t too soon or anything, but I’ve really enjoyed talking to you, can I get your number or something?”
“Oh yeah sure, I was actually gonna ask you the same,” you smiled handing him your phone.
“That’s a relief, I was nervous to ask such a pretty girl for her number,” he blushed. Pretty. Yup, you heard him right, he called you a pretty girl. Instantly at that word you were red, you quickly typed your number into his phone and handed it back. He looked up and saw you blushing, he was too.
“You think I’m pretty?” you asked.
“Yeah, I mean, you are pretty, and I hope your brothers don’t kill me for saying that,” he said nervously.
“Oh they’re fine, and besides they should be happy I’m happy to be talking to a cute boy the whole night,” you grinned.
“You called me cute,” he said with a huge smile.
“You’re cute Will Smith, adorable even,” you made his smile grow bigger. You checked the time and saw it was getting late, and right on time, your brothers approached you saying you wanted to leave. The butterflies in your stomach grew ecstatic, you didn’t know how things would go with Will after you left, so you had to act fast. Out of pure impulse, you kissed him on the cheek.
“Bye Will,” you said beginning to walk away, he grabbed your hand to stop you, pulling you back to him. Your face was practically touching his, if you moved any closer they would be touching. You felt lips press yours as you closed your eyes, they broke apart as you opened them.
“Goodbye Y/N Fantilli, I’ll text you,” he smiled. Both of your brothers stood in shock as you joined them. The three of you walked back to the hotel in silence.
“Well that was a fun party,” Luca finally said.
“Yup,” you and Adam said in unison with very different tones.
“I trust you Y/N, you’ll be fine,” he said pulling you under his shoulder as you walked.
“Really Adam?” you said still in the loose headlock he put you in.
“Definitely.” You felt your phone in your purse it was Will. You waited until you got to your room to open the text because you knew your brothers would want to know. The three of you sat on Luca and Adam’s shared bed and opened the message.
“Y/N, thanks for making this weekend worth all the chaos, hopefully, I can see you again soon ☺️”
“Awww,” the three of you said in unison.
“What’s wrong with us?” Luca laughed.
“Well answer Y/N, don’t leave him waiting any longer.”
“Relax Adam, now you’re so supportive,” you rolled your eyes, and began to type a response.“I hope so too, you miss my pretty face already don’t you 🤭” you sent the message flopping back on the bed waiting for what possible reaction you would get that would leave you smiling the rest of the night.
“Where is the Justice?”
Chapter 6: Blueberry
Summary: “I haven’t given you guys enough one-on-one time with Sebastian, so here. As a treat. Enjoy your jail visit.”
Notes: I always listen to music when I write, so incase you’re wondering/want to listen along, this time I was listening to this playlist
~ ⚖️ ~
July 8th, 2013
Finally, you’re able to visit him again. It’s been weeks since you were last able to. You fidget anxiously as you follow the policeman to the visitation area, and to the booth that had your husband sitting behind a window of plexiglass.
You quickly sit down and pick up the phone on your side – Sebastian looks like he had already been holding his while he was waiting for you.
“Hey, Seb. How are you doing?” You ask him, worry present in your face and tone.
“Hey, baby. I’m fine,” he responds.
“Are you really?”
“Yeah. I’m…” he averts his gaze, trying to find a way to sugarcoat what he’s about to say without lying. “I’m getting by. What about you? Are you eating well? Are you and the babies having any issues?”
“I’m okay. Avoiding the press has been annoying, and I keep getting stared at once in a while when I’m in public… but I’m fine. I’m eating. The babies and I are okay,” you tell him, hoping he doesn’t focus on the bit about the press and the staring.
He focuses on the bit about the press and the staring. “Wait, the press? Have they been hounding you??”
“Well, I wouldn’t call it hounding. It’s fine, really.”
“And start taking Gavin with you when you go out. He’s young, but he’s a tall kid. He can scare people off.”
“Sebastian, it’s fine,” you repeat, not wanting him to get worked up.
“I’m serious, babe.”
“I’m serious, too. It’s okay.”
He stares at you, brows stubbornly furrowed.
“... Okay. I’ll start taking Gavin with me when I can,” you concede.
“Thank you,” he relaxes a little. The thought of people staring at and judging you because the world thinks you married a serial killer makes it difficult, though. At least he knows Gavin wouldn’t hesitate to clock a motherfucker if someone was trying to harass you.
“Mhm.”
A silence falls between you two. A somber, stale silence only filled with the background chatter of the people around you. The both of you switch between making sad eye contact, and averting your eyes while you try to think of what to say.
Eventually, you bite your quivering lip and press your hand against the glass separating you from your husband. He doesn’t hesitate to put his hand where yours is on the other side. It’s only been a little over a month since he was arrested, but it felt like you haven’t touched him in years. You hate that all you can do is imagine that you can feel his warm, calloused hand against yours.
“We’ll get through this. We know I didn’t do anything, and we’ll be able to prove it,” Sebastian starts, seeing the way you’re staring at his hand. “And when it’s all over, and I’m proven innocent, everything will go back to normal. We can go home, and I’ll make you dinner. We can huddle up in blankets on the couch, and I’ll hold you while we watch some of those stupid movies you like. And we’ll start our family,” he caresses the glass with his thumb, hoping the intention will be enough to comfort you. “Everything will be okay.”
“God, I hope so…” you sniffle, fighting back tears once again. Between your hormones being all over the place and your husband being wrongly accused murder, it’s been really difficult not to cry all the time. You don’t want Sebastian to have to see you cry again.
“Your mom has been freaking out since you were arrested,” you start up again, trying to make conversation. “Rita and Gavin keep trying to keep her calm and distracted. A lot of her distractions have consisted of helping me out and buying me way too much baby clothes, but it keeps her busy.”
Sebastian chuckles. “Well, at least now we don’t have to worry about our little rugrats running out of clothes.”
“Sure, but your mother will be in debt because of it,” you joke.
“What can I say? The woman likes to shop.”
You laugh a little. “Oh, and Rita has been going rampant trying to get you out of here. She’s looking into starting a fundraiser for your bail, looking for legal loopholes, starting a petition or something- she’s working her ass off to find you someway out of this.”
“Sounds like Rita,” Sebastian says knowingly. “How’s Gavin?”
“Not great, but… getting by. His grades started tanking again, but I’ve been helping him with his homework when I can to keep him going.”
“That’s good. Thank you for helping him, babe.”
“You don’t need to thank me for doing the bare minimum,” you tell him.
“Mm…” he trails off, giving you that soft-eyed, goofy-smiled, longing stare that he gives you whenever you do something that he deems to be amazing. It’s never over something that you believe warrants praise. One time he looked at you this way for simply loading the dishwasher even though it was his turn to do it, just because you knew he was extra tired that day. It took you like three minutes. “You’re perfect, you know that?”
You fail to fight back a grin and roll your eyes at him. “I know.”
He chuckles. “You’re cute.”
“You’re a dork.”
“A charming dork.”
“An annoying dork.”
“You love me.”
“I do.”
Now it was your turn to stare lovingly. You hated to admit it, but he was, in fact, a charming dork. But he was your charming dork, and you couldn’t be happier that he was. It wasn’t long, though, before the moment turned sour and you began to frown.
“I’m scared,” you said.
“Don’t be.”
“Do you really think you can get proven innocent..?” You know he clearly is innocent, but a part of you wonders… if he can get arrested because the police are convinced he did it, who’s to say a jury won’t be? They must have something to hold him on, otherwise he wouldn’t be sat in front of you wearing an ugly orange jumpsuit.
“Yes, I do. They have nothing on me,” he states, very matter-of-factly. “No DNA, no motive. I’d never even met any of those people that died! I mean, how the hell are they gonna build a case on me? I’ll be fine. I’ll get out of here.”
“But what if you don’t?” You couldn’t help but ask. The anxiety over that being a possibility was too overwhelming.
“I will.”
“But what if you don’t?” You emphasize, demanding a proper answer.
“Then…” he thinks. He doesn’t want to think about that possibility, but he will for you. Because he doesn’t want the love of his life to be afraid. “Then you’ll be okay. And I’ll…try to get used to prison life, I guess. You’ll visit me whenever you can, and I’ll be here. No matter what happens, I’ll always be here.”
“I’m scared. I don’t want to do this alone.”
“You won’t be alone. I’ll be here, and you have mama, Rita, and Gavin to help you whenever you need it. You’ll be okay, baby,” Sebastian leans in closer to you. “We’ll be okay.”
You notice that a tear managed to break free. You wipe it away. “Okay,” you nod.
Sebastian lets out a heavy sigh and sits with you while you try to recollect yourself.
“You know,” you start again with a sniffle. “Once you get out, we should go back to that fancy bakery near the comic store. We deserve to treat ourselves after everything we’re going through.”
“Great idea. We definitely deserve it,” Sebastian agrees, a grin starting to take form on his lips.
“We can buy you a box of those blueberry muffins you wouldn’t shut up about last time we went,” you tease, attempting to lighten the mood.
“God, those muffins are the best thing I’ve ever eaten, I swear.”
“Wowww. I’m telling your mom you said that,” you say, pretending to be very disappointed.
“Pff, don’t!” He exclaims. “Getting out of jail won’t be worth it if she’s just gonna kill me next time she sees me.”
You both laugh. Wholesome, genuine laughter. It feels good to laugh with him. It cheers you up. Makes you feel like there may be hope for you two after all. You’re good people. You deserve a happy ending.
When your laughter dies down, you speak up again. “Just keep thinking about those blueberry muffins, Sebastian. Once we get you out of here, they’re all yours.”
“I’m gonna hold you to that, I hope you know,” he smirks.
“Go ahead. You’ll get your stupid muffins, and I’ll get my stupid movies.”
“But the muffins come first, right?”
You giggle. “Sure. Muffins first. It’s the first place we’ll go when you’re released.”
part 1
The early morning sun is just beginning to shine into the little dusty windows of the office of Magary Lumber Mill, when you hear Gavin’s big boots thudding up the wooden stairs outside. When he opens the door to the little office, he heads straight to your desk without thinking.
"Good morning,” he smiles at you. His hazel eyes seem to linger for a moment, and it makes your heart skip a beat. “I um,” his gaze sweeps over you again, warming you from the inside, “I like that top...it brings out your eyes…”
You blink up at him for a moment, taken aback by his compliment, but he changes the subject before you can think of how to answer. “How're things looking this morning? My brother in yet?"
Gavin picks up a sheaf of papers and mail you had set aside for him, sorting through them casually. He has on his usual button-up shirt, but it’s already warm and he has the sleeves rolled up, showing off his muscled forearms, tanned from his work outside. A couple of the top buttons are undone, and you can see a glimpse of his broad chest underneath.
“Um yes,” you answer, trying not to sound flustered. “He called this morning and said something’s come up. He wants you to get ahold of him as soon as you got in.”
Gavin replies with a non-committal hum as he continues to sort through the forms and contracts he has and you watch him for a moment, gathering your courage. “Do you really like this shirt or are you just trying to get me to finish your paperwork for you again?” you tease playfully.
Gavin looks up at you grinning again. "No, I really do like it darlin'. When do I ever try to get you to do my extra paperwork?” He winks at you and his grin widens, showing his dimple.
His smile and his compliment make your heart skip a beat but you’re at work so you clear your throat putting it out of you mind, even though you can’t deny how good he looks when he does smile. He hasn’t smiled very much since you started working here. “Well I would list all the times you have but you should probably go call Jack.”
"Okay, I'm on it. Are the kids okay? Or did he say?" Gavin shuffles through a few more papers and looks up at you with concern in his eyes. He pulls his phone out of his pocket.
He always shows how much he cares for his niece and adopted nephew, you can’t help but wonder why he’s still so alone himself but you push the thought away. “He didn’t say, but he didn’t sound too concerned, so I’m sure the kids are okay. Something about Grace needing to stay home until she has the baby, I think.”
"Oh yeah...he mentioned she might be lookin’ at bedrest. Somethin’ about one of the labs and another ultrasound I think." He sits on the edge of his desk and connects with his brother and you try not to eavesdrop but it sounds like they have to delay a project if they don't look at that old logging road in the forest out toward the north.
You bite your lip as you give up on being discreet and listen to his side of the conversation. If that trip gets pushed back, it’s going to push everything else back as well and the schedule will be a mess. There’ll be no way to keep all the upcoming jobs for summer. He thumbs off the phone with a heavy sigh.
“Jack can’t go out to Morrow County with you?” you ask, turning in your chair.
He looks up, his dark hazel eyes studying you as though he’s debating something. "No. I...I was wondering...nah, it's too much to ask," he says but you can see the wheels turning in his head.
You sit up a little straighter, realizing what he’s about to say. You won’t miss this chance. “I can go with you.” He looks surprised, but it’s the perfect solution. It’s too much for him to go alone and you’d love to get away, out into nature again.
“Are you sure?” He lifts a brow. “It’ll be almost a week. You don’t have anyone…?”
You grin at him. “No, it’s just me. I’m all alone. No pregnant wife at home.”
He chuckles a little, but chews his lip before he smiles at you again. "Well if you're sure it wouldn't be too much of an imposition I would really appreciate your help. We just can't afford to put this off. Do you have a backpack you can throw a few things into at home? I already have my gear with me but I can run you home to pack?"
“Yes, absolutely. I used to love going hiking out in the middle of nowhere but I haven’t had time since I’ve been on my own. Just work, you know.” You clear you throat again, a little embarrassed about having shared that with him. Your jobs before had been awful but this one was amazing and paid well and you didn’t want him to think otherwise. “Are we camping, or…?”
"Yeah, I hope you don't mind. Then, quite a ways in there's an old loggers' cabin I want to check out. See what kind of repairs it might need so it can hold a few of the men on their shifts without having to go back and forth every day." He walks over to your desk and looks down at you a moment. "Y'know I probably shouldn't say this but...I’m glad your free without any ties at home…but I can't believe some guy hasn't snapped you up ages ago. Their loss." He clears his throat. "Anyway, um...we should probably head out."
Your stomach flutters wildly at his implication…there can’t be any way…does he like you?
“Yeah. Yes,” I swallow. “I love camping. It’s been too long. And I’d love to see that cabin.”
Suddenly you’re more than a little excited. You were down about the upcoming week, expecting it to be dull and awful, all alone in the office, but now… He is so handsome…in his well-fitting jeans (he literally has the best ass you’d ever laid eyes on) and his hard hat, when he gets all serious and hard working. You wonder if this might be your chance to really get to know him better. Yes, he could be a little arrogant at times, and impatient, but you couldn’t help but see the times he thought of his brother or family, or his men first, above all. You know there was some incident and there are people in town that hate him. He pretends not to care but you know it hurts him sometimes.
“Let’s go,” you agree. He opens the door for you and locks it behind you.
