this is the last time i'll talk about the kpop mia thing i promise. i pinky promise. just have to get this off my chest. (post contains mentions of Unpleasant fanservice elements with underage characters in other shows, not terribly detailed but they are described.)
Imagine if every time someone said they liked Gainax’s beloved mecha classic Gunbuster everyone who heard them assumed it was specifically because of that one locker room scene that is in there more prominently than the scenes of nudity in MiA and feature more visible, more detailed, and more prolonged underage nudity and quite unambiguously exists for the sake of titillation alone
imagine if mentioning you were a Fate fan caused everyone to think you were watching it for the little girls making out in Prisma Ilya or the microbikini-clad underage version of Jack the Ripper in FGO. or saying you liked Gurren Lagann immediately caused people to come running with that one interview where a staff writer randomly said Yoko is 14 while most of the merchandise featuring her is heavily focused on sexualization and fanservice, retroactively rendering the show's many many fanservice scenes with her highly questionable for reasons lying totally outside its established canon
or to take a break from objectionable sexualization even though that's the internet's favorite subject: what if every LOGH fan was assumed to share Tanaka's potential tendency of according validity of Great Man Theory or take an uncritical view of the authoritative military autocracies like the one Reinhard establishes amid a mostly positive framing in the story. there are definitely fans that do this by the way but good lord i can't imagine someone assuming the entire fandom does instead of being prone to creating many healthily-critical diatribes questioning the above, even alongside our great love of the characters of the story and the overall work
like nobody assumes these things because it’s widely agreed there’s lots of other good shit in there for all of those shows, and many fans enjoy them without liking and thumbs-upping everything in it. so can you give us Giant Hole Show Liker People that bare minimum of consideration. huh.
like. man. i’m not out here standing by everything in MiA as something I am pleased is in it — like, fucking duh i’m not, since everyone who’s heard me rant about how the otherwise consistent and fantastically delineated theme of “condemning and inspecting a world that exploits innocents for its advancement and those who partake in this” is veritably kneecapped by some of s1’s dumbass lolisho fanservice moments (that Tsukushi just haaaad to throw in, where trauma and humiliation is thrown into casual everyday life montages and brushed off as funny-sexy), knows perfectly well how i feel about them.
but I’m so so tired of people not affording the fans any consideration that we might like The Fucking Rest Of It when there’s way more mainstream things with worse-or-as-bad elements of underage fanservice whose fandom isn’t assumed to be there primarily for the worst bits of fan service.
like can you just accord people the grace of potentially being human beings with complex opinions and well developed reasoning skills and nuanced opinions
#orphan hole tag#I like gunbuster a lot! and I’ve never in my life seen anyone cancel all its fans for the uncritical-sexualization-of-underage-girls part#because we’re a bunch of adults who don’t assume that watching it means you did so for the Worst Part or cosign every element. amazing#idk maybe the kpop idol fanbase people are mostly really young#and are used to a) idols' manufactured perfection b) fanbases with no gray area between 'love every bit of a thing' and 'loathe every bit'

reading primavera... its so interesting to poke eichi's motivations and actions because like . Yeah he is a shrewd businessman and he does make actions within ES/as fine/through yumenosaki/as the stuco with businesslike mindsets but also his core motivation for being an idol isn't and has never been to make money it's because idols like wataru and older idols on tv shows he watched as a kid in hospitals gave him joy and happiness and he wants to be a part of that spreading of joy and happiness and love... at the same time he knows that to make that happen, to fulfill his own dream and the dreams of others like him, there has to be an aspect of realism, that shrewd businessman that he knows how to be... he faces the "adult" world and does things that aren't necessarily as "pure" as his motivations and dreams to make sure that they can become realities by maintaining the resources necessary to do so...
#leo composes#eichi tenshouin#enstars#eichi FASCINATES me#it's also sooo fun to put eichi in comparison to natsume or ibara or tsumugi specifically on this front#idk maybe i'm still thinking about wonder game too hard#i feel like it's so easy to look at just eichi's actions as a businessman and go wow this guy wants to win capitalism smh#what a shrewd move to buy out the manufacturer for the chocofes now that they have trade issues#but when u actually step back and factor in his motivations and reasons for these things#idk. it gives them more depth yk#i feel like so many people miss the part where eichi genuinely loves idols and being an idol#this story IS good for ppl insane about eichi (me) shoutout to whoever said that idr where i saw it

so i'm in my 5th year of being into kpop and let me tell you that i have not once seriously given a shit about what kind of plastic surgery an idol got done
#as long as you keep in mind that they get shit done and a lot of it#then it's all good#i constantly see people picking idol's faces apart looking for the tiniest changes and honestly#who tf cares#literally who gives a shit#ik i don't#does that make them a worse artist if they got a nose job? no? oh? THEN WHO GIVES AF#i get that looking manufactured can be criticized ig but don't act like this literally hasn't always been the norm in kpop#people act so high and mighty about it as if they wouldn't do the fucking same if they were in the same situation#sick and tired of seeing that stuff istg#moments like this make me miss the time where i wasn't on kpop social media and just watched youtube compilation and minded my business#000

i havent seen anyone bother you about mave yet(? maybe i missed it) so i wanted to bother you about mave. People are *saying* that theyre ripping aespa but i think both mave and aespa ripping k/da. k/da is very successful in their own right but companies need to know they cant replicate something like that,,, not authentically at least. k/da had built in lore, built in fanfare from other artists fanbases and interesting music. if companies arent even gonna TRY with any of that theres no point
no one has! they're.......fine i guess? i have nothing really to say about them bc they're just kind of middle of the road. i AM however inclined to agree with you that they are ripping k/da. aespa i think gets it more right and i don't mind their ae concept as much as i thought i would bc it's pretty much just used for story + worldbuilding purposes, which is what that kind of thing works well for. mave is....pretty much just the end product of k/da without any of the whole ass game that the characters in k/da are based on. i did actually write a post about k/da ages ago, but they very much were a passion project of riot's that they didn't really have an idea if the whole thing was gonna work or not. and it was the combination of all of the factors (being made by very passionate people, having extremely talented top of the line animators involved, the game's fandom, and smart utilization of the actual medium itself) that made them pop off like crazy, not the formula of 'pretty animated idol women'. aespa is at least combining both traditional idol forms with some of those animated elements, and is doing it in a way that's in line with sm's conceptual branding (i don't mean the kwangya stuff, i mean they've always done concepts around techno orientalism, going all the way back to h.o.t). i don't really know what the more nuanced deal with mave is bc i've only seen the mv and it didn't grab me so i haven't bothered to look for more about them, but when you get down to it: idols are characters, especially the human ones. we've just been conditioned not to recognize them as such bc the fantasy hinges on everyone agreeing that it's all real. it's the ultimate suspension of disbelief that everyone refuses to acknowledge. all the extra content is there to establish the 'world' that these idols live in, to build them up as characters in this little story that they play for our entertainment. with real live people it's very easy to convince an audience that what is happening is real, bc our brains are trusting and stupid, but with something that is NOT human, it's much harder. we automatically see where all the flaws are, and you cannot shortcut 'worldbuilding' with extra content like you do with an idol bc those people are not real so they would not be doing real people things. when you have animated characters with no grounding to a real person (that's where aespa gets it right), you NEED to have a story to establish where those characters are from because otherwise, what the hell is the draw? why should people care? especially when we don't really have unified stock characters as part of a cultural concensus atm. idk. maybe the novelty of it is drawing people in, but in my opinion this company missed the trees for the forest on what actually made k/da (and to some degree aespa) successful in the first place.
#mave#mave w#aespa w#k/da#kpop questions#you could argue that it operates on the same principle as regular idol groups where there's a visual hook#but idk. i think you need to work a LOT harder to get over that hump with animation and esp humanoid naturalistic animation#you can shortcut SO much with idols bc there's already the manufactured perception that they are real + they are actual people#but for so many people realistic animation tips into uncanny valley if you are trying to hard to 'make something human'#and also like............the ppl that made k/da actually CARED about animation as a medium. so they actually made shit that USED the medium#and kpop companies do NOT know how to do that#arguably the only groups that have pulled off that feat are like. onf. and that one nine.i concept trailer from nov#whatever. tldr is if you want to make visually fake idols they need to have a good backstory otherwise ppl will not care and think its weir#text#answers

are you ever talking with someone who is just so delusional and you really dont know what to say so youre just like. yeah man youre right. idk why they said that to u.
#what of my coworkers wants to hop on the idol soft doll train and made designs#but they are not very clean and a lot of pieces are not very detailed she just has a reference photo and an arrow pointing to the shape of#the pictured item on the doll#and she sent her designs to toy manufacturers and they were like. sure.#just send us the finished designs when theyre done#and she was like oh these are the finished designs and they were like no. the finished exact drawing of what you want the doll to look like#exactly. and she was like this is it and they were like nahhh. we would need to have our in-house graphic designer redo these at a charge.#and she was showing them to me like look arent they done!! like yeah this part here isnt super detailed but theres a reference image!#and i was like girl what do you think a reference image is for. it would be to help their designer finalize your design into something they#can standardize to produce. not for employees to squint at mid-production.#she doesnt seem to understand that although this is not exactly how it works she should think of the toy manufacturer as a printer#she should give them exactly the image she wants to receive as a product. she didn't even color in the hair on one of the designs.#t

Enhancing Idols and Sculptures with Premium Pigments by SP Colour & Chemicals
SP Colour & Chemicals Mica powders and pigments covered with metallic oxides, such as titanium dioxide, metal flakes are used to create pearl pigments, which are fine powders. These pigments produce stunning pearlescent, metallic, or iridescent effects by reflecting light. Pearl pigments do not produce solid hues like regular pigments do. Rather, they give every surface they adorn a dazzling shine that delicately changes depending on the angle of the light, giving it refinement and fascination.
Why Choose Pearl Pigments by SP Colour & Chemicals for Sculptures and Idols?
There are numerous benefits of using our pearl pigments:
Aesthetic Appeal: Pearl pigments give sculptures and idols an opulent sheen that enhances their visual appeal and makes them appropriate for both classic and contemporary designs.
Versatility: Our Pearlescent pigments perform well with a wide range of materials, including metal, wood, clay, plaster, and resin.
Durability: The sculptures will continue to shine over time because of SP Colour & Chemicals’ pigments’ lightfastness, resistance to weather, and non-toxicity.
Cultural Significance: Pearl pigments by SP Colour & Chemicals can replicate the appearance of valuable metals and stones in religious and cultural idols, giving them a regal or hallowed atmosphere.
How to Apply SP Colour & Chemicals’ Pearl Pigments on Sculptures and Idols?
Step 1: Preparing the Surface of your products
Make sure your idols and sculptures surface is clean, smooth, and primed if needed before adding pearl pigments. A primer improves the colors’ adhesion and brightness on materials like clay or plaster.
Step 2: Applications used on your products
Dry Brushing: This technique is ideal for emphasizing fine details since it uses a gentle, dry brush to apply pigments to the surface.
Mixing with Mediums: For painting or pouring applications, mix pigments with transparent binders such as varnish, resin, or acrylic medium.
Layering: To achieve a rich, multi-tonal appearance, apply several layers of color.
Step 3: Finish Sealing
Apply a clear coating, like epoxy resin or spray varnish, to the pigments to seal them. This stage guarantees longevity and improves the pigments’ sheen in addition to protecting them.
How to Use Pearl Pigments in Candle Making?
Pearl pigments are simple to use, but meticulous attention to detail is necessary to achieve professional effects. Here are some pointers:
Preparation: Melt the wax to the temperature specified for the type you have selected (paraffin, soy, etc.). For best results, measure out the appropriate amount of AMP Pigments, usually 1% to 2% of the wax weight.
Mixing: To guarantee even distribution of coloring effect, gently add the premium pigment to the heated wax while mixing constantly.
Pouring: Before pouring, divide the pigmented wax into pieces and work as required to create layered or marbled effects. To avoid the wax cooling too soon, work swiftly.
Final Details: After the candle has set, you can use a soft brush to add more pigment to the surface for more glitter effect.
Creative Applications for Pearl Pigments
Combination of Colors: To create distinctive hues with delicate sheen, mix SP Colour & Chemicals pearl pigments with any color pigments.
Glow-in-the-Dark Effects: To create idols that glow in low light and have a mysterious appearance, combine pearl paints with phosphorescent powders.
Antique Finishes: Ideal for classic idols with a historic appearance, metallic pearl colors can be used to simulate aged gold or bronze.
Why Choose SP Colour & Chemicals’ Pearl Pigments?
We at SP Colour take great satisfaction in manufacturing high-quality varieties of pearl pigments that are specific to the requirements of both manufacturers and artists. The pigments we use are:
High Quality: Constructed from premium materials for exceptional durability and brilliance.
Broad Variety: Every artistic vision can be satisfied with our selection of metallic golds and color-shifting iridescents.
Sustainable and Safe: They are perfect for use in religious and decorative objects because they are non-toxic and environmentally friendly.
The pearl pigments from SP Colour offer the ideal finish to make your creations come to life, whether you are making a massive sculpture for public display or a tiny handcrafted idol.

i know its the mark of a good story to be able to bring people to where you want to meet them but ideally if i were going to run my idol industry based shadowrun campaign ive got plotted out id need at least one over sicko who knows the ropes
#saying you'll run shadowrun is a gurantee for 50 players to show up#the tack on being i want to run something that really tears at the ass of the idol industry is a niche kink#theres analog to be found in american forms of pop star manufacturing#but like not to the scale and extent of japanese idols#mind boggling how that whole industry operates
