Young Bad Education (Dayoo): I fell in love with Mizusawa’s eyes on the cover and bought the volume in Japanese years ago without an ounce of idea what the story was about. No regrets. Young Bad Education and its continuation Young Good Boyfriend will feed your soul. You can read it on Manga Planet (Futekiya).

Hitorijime My Hero (Memeco Arii): This title is a classic so you might have already seen it but just in case. Hitorijime My Hero has an anime adaptation as well (I’m anime-only) and the manga has a spin-off with the side couple as far as I know. The height difference is less pronounced here but if you’re like me and you love delinquents as well, this will be your jam.

The Trees in Spring (Nakaoka Naka): I’m kind of cheating but I’ll do anything to recommend this title! MCs here are a teacher and student, but the teacher isn’t teaching the student, they meet each other in a different way. I have reviewed this title before and take any chance I can get to recommend it, so there you go!

Warbler, Sing of Spring (Nago Nayuta): I felt like they don’t have height difference (and checked the first chapter again) but the MCs are always drawn in weird angles so I’m not sure. Another title with the delinquent sprinkled on top. Really enjoyed reading this, Nago Nayuta’s works have a cuteness I like and the uke in Warbler is kind of unhinged xD Love him!

The Neighbor I Desire (Makoto): This one started off a bit weird for me but I can assure you it’s super cute! I have written a review before so if you want more details, here you go.

The Good Teacher (Eeej): Another title I reviewed before. It’s pretty, fun but short and while the plot is not this series’ strongest point, I think it’s worth giving a shot.

Love for Sale (Dal Hyeon-ji): It’s official, you guys. I will literally disintegrate if I don’t recommend Love for Sale, the doctor said it not me. But honestly, do yourself a solid one and read it if you still haven’t. The pinnacle of ultimate goodness. I wrote on LfS before but since the post contaşns spoilers and is more about sugar dating than a review, I’ll spare you the link. On Lezhin.

Love Me Doctor (ANA): Another series I constantly recommended on Twitter and got a couple of unassuming, kind-hesrted people to read it with me as well. Focuses on a university student and a urology doctor he had tovisit for his ED. If you’re comfortable reading a title where a doctor kind of uses his position to get to know a patient and stepping over boundaries, please give it a chance! TOTALLY worth the time. On Lezhin.

On or Off (A1): Can’t say I understood the drama with the artist and the series being wrapped up rather quickly, but I read this popular webtoon with joy! Not as big of a fan as the rest of the BL fans but if youdig these two tropes I think it’s worth checking out. On Tappytoon, but I think TOKYOPOP has released it in print.

Metro (Chika Hongo): This is more of a dramatic title, where a high school student is being touched regularly by the same man on the train and he likes it, until one day he follows him home upon being invited. If you prefer a story that’s laced with trauma and flawed characters, this is for you! On Manga Planet.

Pound Cake on a Sunday (Amida Shizuku): Man this series is SUPER funny that I had to reread today! A father and son lives alone after the mother’s passing and one day, out of the blue, the father starts complimenting the new transfer to the company about how he’s so beautiful or saying how shiny his hair is. Is his father gay? Did he finally lose it? Read and find out! Very different from your usual BL, worth your time!

Bonus - I’m a Dom and I Want You To Stroke My Head (KINACO): Has dom/sub universe (a big fan) height difference as well, but it’s a teacher x teacher pairing.

Hold on tight to yourself, not just anyone else When you've sailed to the edge, nowhere left to go

I've talked about my experimental light and water shooting in last week's wip wednesday, and I'm here to finally share some fave pics xD I have more, and I might post some on a separate occasion or just use them for OC ask stuff where they fit, we'll see!!

Vince is someone who often asks himself where his place in the universe is, even more so growing up, but the doubts keep creeping in again now and then regardless of how much more confident he is now in his own abilities and goals. I kind of wanted to capture this feeling of being lost, just floating for a while as you try to figure things out here... and play with light and color.

I didn't really take any behind the scenes pics for this (I should really start doing that) but I made some shitty sketches just now with my mouse cause I mentioned I wanted to illustrate how I did this xD Also for my personal reference, cause I wanna do something similar, slightly different for another project in the future!!

Very simply, this was the setup xD I used Denny's pool as location, mainly because it was the first that came to mind, had a decent size, and I wanted to do some stuff there anyway xD I think you could pull this off in any other pool or body of water just as well. Originally I wanted to keep the normal pool background, but then I spawned in a black wall from the photostudio props to block out the sunlight and get a darker backdrop, and I really liked that!!

I had three customizable point lights spawned, a red one below V, a purple and greenish one above him - I don't remember the exact placements, I mainly just wanted a nice color contrast and I like those colors and played around with where I put them!

Now, the ripple effect of the water...... I had V spawned in via AMM, and so Player!V was also still there in the scne, so I just ran around his spawned self a little bit to create the splashes xD And voila!

I always take my pics just in in good old vanilla photomode, and at first I had pathtracing on for it (raytracing is also on). And I did like that as well, but look at these unedited pics:

The reflections look a lot more natural and detailed, but are also waaaayyy less colorful. So if you wanna go for a more realistic approach that might be the better option! Everything else is the same, lights, backdrop, etc.

These are some unedited shots with pathtracing off (raytracing still on):

The lights kind of create this oil-spill like effect on the water and I loooove that so much!! Also, the red light from below was reflected in his eyes in a really cool way somehow (less realistic, but very aesthetic xD)

So yeah! If your graphics card can handle it, mess with all the ray/pathtracing settings a bit for a variety of effects xD

Also, all my pics are usually heavily edited in case you couldn't tell XD I love vanilla photomode for its convenience, but it has its limits when it comes to color adjustments, depth of field, and the like!

Same shot, unedited above, edited below. Played with color balance, saturation, sharpness, and in some of the pics some slight motion blur, too. I also shopped in his top surgery scars cause I didn't get around to trying to make them as a mod yet but it's on my list XD For more of them artsy pics with consistent looking scars!

It's hard to choose one! Um, lemme see...him waking up and telling her to fuck off had me dying. Because I'm a nuance person, right? I love if a movie--even one that I consider as frustrating as this one--knows the beats and quirks of its characters and shows me that they have a unique relationship, whether that's platonic or romantic, and that scene was so telling. It was telling in that Tyler is still Tyler even after his brush with death and Nik is his touchstone. He only shows softness and vulnerability when he's near her. He knows she's his safe place and she knows he understands her and cares for her just as much. I loved getting to see them together the whole movie through this time around. People will argue whether it's platonic or romantic love until they are blue in the face, but either way it is VERY clear they both love each other.

Him catching her before she fell off the building is another scene where I was wiggling and giggling like a maniac in my seat. Dude. Bro went off hard. He risked everything for her. He was not gonna drop her. Either they were both gonna die or no one did and that's some serious devotion and love right there too. Especially after my man got shot in the fucking hand and STILL wouldn't let her go. And extra kudos for Nik waking up and saving them both like the fucking badass she is. Gosh, their entire dynamic in this movie is the shit I get out of bed for. I LOVE two completely badass people who have an unspoken thing for each other but their actions speak much louder than all the shit they don't say to each other.

And lastly, props to the way they filmed him comforting her. He says nothing and just leans into her. Wow. Man. That's love, y'all. That's what it looks like. I mean, I would've liked him to have said something, but the touch was enough. It really conveyed that they've been through hell together and they are the other half of each other's soul, whether you argue platonic or romantic.

tl;dr--my three faves are him waking up, him catching her before she fell off the roof, and him comforting her. But last mention goes to "I'm not leaving her behind." YESSSSSSS MOTHERFUCKER YESSSSSSS OH HE LOVES THAT WOMAN TO DEATH.

How did you come up with your fanfictions like for a example super readers biggest adventures and how did you come up with your oc's for your fanfictions?

Ooh, I love getting these questions! I actually have four ways of making fanfic, and these include a little bit of trivia into my story writing processes ^^

The first way is usually the result of asking myself a question. This is the case with fics like SRBA and my fifty million Hanna-Barbera fics, lol XD For SRBA, it was, "I wonder what would happen if I made a serious story for Super Why--one with way more fantasy and danger, with a bit of romance." With Blazin' Trails, I wondered, "Hey, how would the cartoon go if Ricochet Rabbit and Droop-a-Long were friends?" And with The Ghost of Huckleberry Hound, it was, "How would the movie go if Huck really was a ghost?"

The second is inspiration, mostly from reading others' fanfics, but also from anime/games/TV shows. Of course, I don't copy anything, and I always try to give credit where it's due to the authors who inspired me. The original version of The Zula Patrol: Dreamscape Crusade was originally heavily inspired by a Nanoha fanfic I read ages ago which dealt with time travel and alternate worlds, and later elements were influenced by Symphogear. Its remake was inspired by a Symphogear fic called My Sunshine (which had an equally awesome remake) in regards to tone, setting and the concept of relics mixing with modern worlds and the people who want to pursue them. Granted, there's more supernatural/magic involved, but still. And the scrapped Heroes of Time was inspired by a multitude of crossovers, including the exceedingly awesome Shattered Skies (an epic magical girl crossover between five of my favorite Magical Girl series), whose author actually favorited this fic before it was taken down.

Third, sometimes, I have an idea so absurd that I have to write it out before it consumes me. The crossovers I've come up with usually fall into that category, especially if I'm doing a Hanna-Barbera/anything crossover. Sodor Magic Crusaders was originally a spin-off from a humanized Thomas fic I made ages ago and never finished, and originallly had no Nanoha elements whatsoever (in fact, I think it was inspired by Lodoss War). And when I discovered Nanoha, the idea wouldn't leave me be, and I had to write it out.

And fourth and finally...sometimes, I just get hit with fluffy/angsty feels, and want to take it out on my faves. That's pretty much all of my one-shot fics, although some of the longer fics aren't immune.

Artem theater major + become bestie with Vyn (reluctantly at first but become real) and roommate and still find his way to law anyway (self explanatory, this is because i find out that there is a good acting school at svart thanks to main story chapter 7 and reading thin veil card in yt about artem was about to major in drama if not law)

Obi-Wan and Ahsoka have talk about sexuality ane romantic attraction (self explanatory, and personal and its done tbh just need to be checked)

May or may not write up some more coherent thoughts on the game as a whole now that I've beaten it, not sure yet

I get why they did it--avoid confusion caused by finding information out out-of-order and to avoid forcing you into one specific path. But I still wish they'd had more variety with the 4 regional sage dungeons since it was the exact same backstory for each just from a slightly different angle.

Since you can already do things in an order then makes certain "mysteries" clear (like knowing the identity of the Light Dragon which means knowing the "Zelda" you see is a fake)... I think it would have been fine to tell more variety and maybe achronological, y'know?

Especially if they had included the stuff from the old Sages in re-watchable scenes.

ahhh jen this is truly a thing i think you communicated really well in this comic. Sabo's trauma was handled really proficiently, it's not like RIGHT IN UR FACE OBVIOUS, but the way some little things tick him off- even when they're right next to the ocean and everything is okay,,, it feels so grounded to reality. Like the subtle shift in demeanor is esp done well over here!!!

And that is!! 18 of 18 pages!! It's this long because I didn't want to break up their fight. I hope you enjoy :)

I had to rewrite their fight like,,, 3 times lmao. I'm not very good at writing fights because I'm Incredibly Passive Aggressive and Very Non Confrontational. Thankfully my partner helped me out a bit with making the escalation feel natural, so hopefully their grievances and motivations read well. In the end, both of them are starving probably-emotionally-stunted teenage boys in a high-stress situation, and Tage is being faced constantly with one of the biggest sources of his trauma that he doesn't even remember-- of course he's going to lash out.

Fun thing I learned this time around, if I struggle with planning a chapter, it can kind of help to write it out in prose like I would a fanfic, and then translate it to comic form. This is how I eventually ended up with 18 pages of comic,,, because I can't really estimate how much I'll need to draw when I'm writing in prose. In turn, this did help a lot with adding more natural behaviors between dialogue, like Tage tapping his finger to fidget while crossing his arm, or all of their pointing and gesturing while they're arguing.

Christmas 2021. So I’ve been keeping up with an Anime adaptation of the Jungle Book.

It’s an Italian-Japanese co-production with Mondo World in Italy. Yes, THAT Mondo World who created the infamous Titanic animated movies along with those Lion King ripoffs and North Korean military propaganda cartoons.

Stick with me on this.

I find that the studio’s better titles are the ones they co-produce with Japan, often letter the latter take the reigns in terms of animation direction and storytelling. They’ve done many based on Fairy Tails like Cinderella and classic novels like Zorro as well as historical figures like... Christopher Columbus.

Again, stick with me on this.

The Jungle Book was their first co-production and has been certainly one impressive interpretation of Kipling’s characters as well as stories. While it’s more lighter overall, it doesn’t stop things from getting heavy with Bagheera’s backstory involving being freed by a girl who was shot for the act.

There’s also blood as Mowgli and his friends face real perils of the Jungle from Shere Khan to rogue wolves like Grizzle. While the more brutal acts aren’t graphic, some of Mowgli’s victories involve him actually stabbing his opponents with a knife.

The secondary characters be they Anime original or adapted from the books certainly elevate the series. The Wolf Pack is on the fence about Mowgli but mostly come around to him when he grows up learning of the Jungle Law. His brothers, Sura and Akru, are definitely those “two guys” but prove to be supportive if any other wolves dare to talk smack about the adoptive sibling.

Luri is Mowgli’s wolf mother and one that surprisingly got one hell of a story arc in becoming the next leader of the Wolf Pack after Akela half-way through the series. At first, she’s a calm and wise mother guiding her child after their father’s fall at Shere Khan’s might.

However, she becomes more involved with the Wolf Pack when other threats prove too much. Specifically when Grizzle’s terrible trio enter the fray, she comes in to bring in Haiti as extra muscle to keep the peace. Luri then helps snuff out the rogue wolves through subtle planning before striking in the Cold Lair. This earns her recognition among the pack when Akela proves too old.

Who says mothers in Anime don’t do anything?

Lala, Akela’s granddaughter, is honestly my fave of them all if only for her attitude. She’s if Asuka Langley Souryuu was more well-adjusted in terms of family lift but still just as cocky often making potshots at Mowgli’s Shinji Ikari. She adds a good spice to the story with how being a little full of herself yet helpful when the chips are down.

When her father leaves due to leading another pack, she takes it out on the man-cub even after he saves her from a Cobra. His subsequent running away allows her pause to reconsider her actions and verbally admit that its was wrong of her to treat him the way she did.

From there, she’s more awkward but strives to be a better friend. She’s a brat overall but the kind you know is better than what she lets on, even as far back as episode three when she initially takes Mowgli’s Boomerang (his “fang”) but returns it after a heart-to-heart with Luri.

I kind of wish she was more involved in the second half like when Mowgli gets more in touch with his human side. She’d be so jealous of Mowgli spending more time with Jemeriah, maybe coming to terms with how she feels about him proper.

I also can totally see her biting Boldeo unapologetically. If not her, then Luri. XD

Overall, this is a surprisingly great take on a classic book and one that deserves more recognition. The English Version is full available on YouTube and surprisingly well done for a nineties translation. The voice cast are from CineGroupe from Montreal, Canada with voice actors you might recognize from Arthur or Sagwa of PBS fame. These guys know their stuff.
