Oh god I love talking to you. \\ dude, your time line makes a lot of sense, and talking about joel's dad I REALLY hope he died, because imagine get the love of a little joel and then disappoint the poor boy😭but dying or not, I think maybe he could have canonically been a role model for joel. By the picture, I suppose he was a good dad to joel, and maybe he inspired joel to always take care of people (tommy and their mama, sarah, tommy again, ellie), a hole model of a man. Also, in my head, I feel like joel was always a little man: responsible, postured and problem solver. The kind of little boy that was a good son, didn't bully any kid, somehow was always good to other smaller children or babies when he had to, throwing a punch or two to the kids that messed with tommy. It's everyone's headcanon, I think, because i've seen a fics where he is described as such. You think everything you said about their childhood is canon in LTW? If yes, would be interesting to hear joel talk about his dad to ellie or something.
In the second topic, that made me think: maybe the absence of a father and growing up with joel doing everything maybe had created this part of him..? (the part of always wanting someone to take care of him). Or yes, IT IS ironic. Specially if we remember maria said last chapter something about ellie may having a confused bond with joel because of the absence of the adults in her life (or something like that). Btw, Maybe that's maria's type: man with mommy issues. HA.
And talking about the part 2, PLEASE TALK ABOUT IT. ANOTHER ROUND OF CONVERSATION YAY
Nonnie Cub, I love talking to you too, kinda wish I knew who you were so we can chat, but I get the anon, all love, Mama promises. But my DMs are always open if you (or anyone) wants to chat
What do y’all want to talk about regarding Part 2? Besides the fact that it’s not really canon, ha. I’m not a Joel Miller apologist, Joel did nothing wrong - and I have thoughts on certain events in the game. I’m very cautious about spoilers so if we do talk Part 2, it’ll be under cuts.
More about Tommy under the cut - probably the last we’ll discuss him.
There’s some heavy stuff coming for the next few chapters in LtW, and I do want Ellie and Joel to talk about Joel as a father and his life before the outbreak, especially Sarah. I don’t wanna give too much away, but Ellie begins to become insecure about her place in Joel’s life and he does open up to her.
Another catalyst for Tommy’s life long childish behavior might also be Sarah being born - Joel’s attention had to shift while Tommy was an adolescent. He either had an absent or deceased father, potentially lost his mother when he was young, and then his brother has to split his attention because of his own child. This would probably explain Tommy’s reasoning for joining the army, trying to find a sense of belonging - and then the fireflies, then the communists - haha

Hey all! Announcement stuff!
Thank you to everyone who has been very patient with me. I swear to god i could turn into one of those Ao3 authors thats like "hahaha sorry i havent updated in so long i died and then came back to life and then i had to work 7 jobs" and im being so fucking brave about it!! ANYWAYS THATS NOT WHAT THIS IS ABOUT!
Tomorrow is the 1 Year anniversary of steady tracks chapter 1! 🥳(and also my birthday. yes that was on purpose)
So! I wanted to give you all some updates and stuff to look forward to because oh god it sure has been an entire fucking year since I uploaded stuff and I refuse to feel bad about it but my brain is trying so hard to make me! I am working on chapter 2. Progress has been terribly slow because of severe life events, thank you for your understanding.
So!! What's next? Well, over the summer I am really fucking hoping to finish chapter 2. I know I keep saying this but literally i stg. I'm going apeshit. do you know how hard it is to think about something for an entire year and never have the time, motivation, or energy at the same time to make it exist?? fucked up!! Before that though, I have a few things.
I TOLD you all that I would talk about an AU of mine, whichever was highest voted in that strawpoll I did, and then surprise i fuckin didnt do that. I would very very much like to do that! The problem, I realized, is that I operate super hard on a reactionary basis so I am not prone to talking about anything that is mine until prompted about it or given permission. Fucking, Wack. This is my house. I should be cringe and free but nooooo. Anyways, because of this, I am planning on doing 2 things -> Actually tell you guys about spirit keeper! You all voted for him back when, and especially with that ✨Fucking, Gorgeous✨ commission from Fronomeeps I got (for me birthday :]) I really really really want to do that. And post my art more. and shit like that. seriously i need to get out of my head or I'll explode. someone needs to scream about how cool these stories are with me or I'll dissolve. -> I am thinking of doing a day long event where I stream an Aggie/(Magma?) where I draw my AUs and let people hop in to join in (as long as it stays on topic!) as well as answering as many asks as I can about my many aus and basically setting you guys up to trick me into infodumping. Because let me tell you i have a year and a halfs worth of words in my head and i am 100% confident ingo and emmet enjoyers would really like to hear them. So I wanna do a big ask party Q&A and really get things rolling!! Hopefully with drawings and doodles involved! as a celebration for myself, and as a way to open up to the greater fandom (Please leave a comment if you think that sounds cool, I'm trying to gauge interest because if i went all out and no one showed up it would be Extremely Depressing!)
ON! THAT! TOPIC!!! I am actively (literally interspersed with as I am typing this) making a UQUIZ about all of my significant AUs. For the record, there are 23 results on this quiz. I currently only have 3/23 final results completed, but it is my active focus over the weekend to finish as many of those as I can to try and complete the entire thing within a week or less. Also poking at my phrasing here, when I say my significant aus I Mean It, I have more than 23, but these 23 are the ones with stories tangible enough to start somewhere and elaborate on. I have about 10 that I would consider my main AUs, but some of the smaller ones are huge sleeper favorites.
SO YEAH!!! PLEASE LOOK FORWARD TO THAT AND LET ME KNOW IF YOU'RE INTERESTED!! I really wanna do fun stuff and get to know people in the fandom more than just. that person who wrote 1 chapter of a cool fic that one time. I have so much more to offer and I struggle so much to offer it. Please draw me out of my shell, I wish to enter the fandom sphere 🥺
thank you for giving me a great year <3 ((and hopefully the next one will be better <3))
#Status Update#AUs#Long Post#Ingo pokemon#Emmet pokemon#Submas#i feel a little bad about putting this on the main tags but im not joking when i say i really wanna break out of my head and do something#fun and exciting#Subway Boss Jericho Taking The PA System Aux

𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲?
synopsis : reader is an individual with powers she doesn’t quite understand. she’s overcome with despair of her and her friends’ failure and her boyfriend eddie’s “death”. so in a fit of rage, her powers go beserk, and she accidentally turns the town of hawkins into a collection of her favorite sitcoms.
stanger things x reader (wandavision! au)
future warnings : swearing, emotional (mainly angry) reader, confused eddie, plotting grandma. i don’t really know what other warnings to put other than swearing and manipulation (?) 🫣 so we’ll just have to see
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2 days later
“it’s been less than 48 hours since a 7.4 magnitude earthquake rocked the quaint town lf Hawkins, 80 miles outside of indianapolis, in an event that seismologists are caling “a natural disaster of near unprecedented scale.”
you distantly heard the newscaster on the t.v. say, as you walked past your grandmother and mother in the living room, watching it.
“the death toll stands at 22. but with hundreds more filling roane county hospitals and many more still missing, officials expect those numbers to rise.” he continued
“mom turn this off, she doesn’t need this right now.” you heard your mother, attempt to whisper to your grandmother, but to no avail.
“i’m just waiting for the good stuff to come on, y/m/n, no need to throw a fit.” your grandmother responded nonchalantly.
“mother, you know for a fact, all of the channels are going to be taking about just this, for who knows how long!” your mother scolded her.
“look, the quicker she-“
“this is only the latest tragedy to befall this once-safe town. most recently, a string of high school student were killed in a series of ritualistic murders, which have been linked to a local satanic cult known as “hellfire.” their bickering was cut off by the man continuing. the next words escaping his mouth, making all three of you stop in your tracks.
“eddie munson, the leader of this cult and prime suspect in the murders, has been missing since the earthquake and is presumed dead. but this offers little comfort to the people of hawkins, who are scared, angry, and searching for answers.” he finished.
with the flick of your mother’s hand the t.v. shut off, as she glared at your grandmother, silence filling the house. a slam broke the silence, along with the sounds of heavy footsteps leaving the kitchen, and the front door opening and slamming behind you as you exited the house.
“let’s hope she doesn’t go kill him.” your grandmother said nonchalantly, sipping her tea. “he’s only the messenger after all.”
“mom, i really do wish you could be sympathetic about this. her boyfriend not only died, but he’s also being accused of murders he didn’t commit.” your mother sighed, getting up to watch you from the window, as you got into your car and drove to god knows where.
“i don’t know why they even think that, the boy cried when a bee flew near him once, and yet think he could do something like that? please.” your grandmother scoffed. “he was a pain in the ass, but he was no murderer that’s for certain.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
sunday , march 2, 1986 | 2:24 a.m.
“you know when we graduate sweetheart, and run like hell out of here, i’m definitely taking you with me.” eddie whispered, rubbing your back, as you two laid in your bed.
“is that so? i figured you’d be too good for everyone and eveything in this town at that point.” you joked, lifting your head off of his chest to look at him.
“never you. and maybe those sheep of ours can join us too.” he said.
“eddie, i’m pretty sure that’s kidnapping.” you laughed softly.
“yeah i actually think so too. besides, i don’t think “king”steve would appreciate stealing his children from him.” he laughed.
“so what are your grand plans for us mr. munson? you know i need organization in advance.” you joked again,
“well mrs. munson, first we’ll buy a house in a small town-“
“you? settled in a small town? i’m shocked!” you look at him in fake horror, making him roll his eyes, and playfully push you away from him.
“just for that, now i’m not continuing.” he fake pouted and rolled to face away from you.
“okay, okay i’m sorry baby.” you held him from behind now, kissing his cheek. “keep going, please?”
“the small town thing’s for you. so we can live out your crazy, dick van dyke, bewitched, good times, brady bunch, sabrina the teena-“ he started listing all the shows you’ve made him watch.
“okay, i get it! i like a lot of shows, sue me!” you giggle, smushing his face together.
“but yeah we can do all of those things, i mean the bewitched and sabrina one may be kinda hard seeing that you aren’t a witch but, i’ve already got the evil mother-in-law, trying to get rid of me thing going so how far off can it get.” he cheekily said, once he successfully moved your hand, scooting down to lay his head in your lap, as you sat up to lean against the headboard.
“my mother loves you though?” you leaned over him confusedly, purposely not acknowledging the other thing he said.
“yeah i know. i’m talking ‘bout your grandmother, i mean i swear i can feel her burning a hole in the back of my neck whenever i turn away from her.” he winced.
you froze remembering the time he let you put his hair up, and as he walked away from you and your grandmother at the kitchen table, she stared daggers into him until he jumped, swearing that the back of his neck was on fire for a second.
“you’re an idiot.” you laughed nervously, running your fingers through his hair.
“and we can have our own little tabitha too.” he smiled.
“you want kids after we graduate?” you asked incredulously.
“well not just yet, but i’m sure yours can visit.” he nonchalantly said
“mine?”
“yeah, these two!” he exclaimed picking up a framed photo on your dresser of you, el and will before they moved away.
“she can be your tabitha, and he’ll be my all-seeing/knowing son.” he joked, putting the picture back.
it’s scary how accurate he can be sometimes.
as you can tell, eddie wasn’t aware of your family’s… lineage at this point. you wanted to tell him, really you did, but you knew you wouldn’t unless it was absolutely necessary. you’d been involved with the events of the upside down since the year will was taken, in fact that’s how the kids found out. then max found out, robin, and at this point you didn’t want anyone else knowing, even if it was your own boyfriend, in case it put him in danger. that all changed quicker than you thought it would, though.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
saturday, march 22, 1986 | reefer rick’s cabin
after everyone left to follow the cop cars, you volunteered to stay with eddie, and try to console him. so how it turned into a full-blown screaming match, was beyond you.
“so you’re telling me, that you’ve been dealing with shit like this, for three years! three! and didn’t want to tell me?! we’ve been dating for two! which means all those times you blew me off for days on end, was because of this shit?!” he paced around frantically.
“yes, eddie. can you please calm down?!” you sighed.
“calm down?! my girlfriend could’ve died on countless different occasions and you want me to calm down! what, they would’ve just fed me the same bullshit that they did to that one girl’s parents?!
“yes eddie, i do want you to calm down because if you haven’t noticed you’re in hiding! do you want people to hear you?! and nobody would’ve told you anything because i wasn’t and am not going to die!”
“why didn’t you just tell me? is it because you think i’m weak?” he suddenly got offended.
“what? no! eddie, it’s complicated okay! we don’t just go around really telling people about it! they just find out!
he groaned, still pacing around.
“eddie, i’m going to tell you something.”
“oh, now you wanna tell me stuff.” he scoffed, going to sit down on a crate, but before he could it disappeared from under him and he fell to the ground.
“what the hell?” he muttered looking around for it before seeing it sitting at your feet. “how did tha-“
“i don’t appreciate your attitude with me right now.” you pouted, crossing your arms.
“i-i don’t understand how that was just right here- and then.” he stammered
“i’m a witch, eddie.” you sighed, transporting it back to him.
there were a lot of reactions you expected from him at this point, but him laughing hysterically was not one of them. you just stared at him not really knowing what to say. after he stopped, he dragged the crate to where you were standing and sat down on it, sighing he pulled you to sit on his lap.
“you know, out of all the things i’ve heard today that actually makes the most sense.” he whispered, dropping his head on your shoulder.
“really?”
“oh yeah. i mean, i knew those magic tricks had something to them, and wait-“ he cut himself off, looking at you. “does that mean that your family is too?”
“yeah…why?” you asked quietly.
“well then your grandmother makes a whole lot more sense.” he started laughing, remembering all the times he felt like she did something to him, but couldn’t figure out what.
“so. can i show you some things?” you asked hopefully.
“uhh yes? please? i promise i’ll be much more understanding than that stupid darrin!” he urged, referencing bewitched.
you spent the rest of that day, keeping his mind occupied, and away from all the vecna madness.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
march 25, 1986 | hawkins hospital
you walked down the bright hallways, carrying a bouqet of carnations, narrowly avoiding bumping into frantic nurses and families trying to get back to their loved ones. as you stopped outside of the room you were told, you heard the sound of lucas’ voice, reciting stephen king’s “the talisman”.
not wanting to lose your nerve, you quietly knock on the door, entering slowly. lucas and erica looked surprised to see you, being that you had just up and disappeared after max was checked into the hospital.
“hey, guys.” you said quietly, as you walked to max’s bedside and set the flowers, down. looking down at her you brushed some of her hair away from her face, and turned to look at the two.
“are you guys okay? i’m sorry, i haven’t been here.“ your voice cracked as you squeezed lucas’ shoulders and gave erica a hug.
before you could continue, you were cut off by the two tackling you into a hug.
“we’re fine.” erica responded.
“you’re here now.” lucas whispered
“yeah, we didn’t know if you’d ever come back.”
“did they say when she’d wake up?” you asked, looking at max.
“no.” lucas whispered, making eye contact with erica, leaving out the part where the doctors said she might not at all.
“oh, okay. well just call me when she does, i’ll be right over.” you said squeezing them one last time, before heading back towards the door.
“i love you guys, i’ll see you later, okay?” you said, leaving before they could respond.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
you were originally going to go to the high school, and help everyone down there, but instead found yourself driving past it, and a little further into town, where there wasn’t any wreck or openings in the ground. as you drove you looked up at the sky passed the windshield and at the red and black clouds. you were suddenly pulled out of your thoughts, by the sound of someone clearing their throat.
“go away, i don’t want to talk to you.” you sighed, looking away from the woman in the rearview mirror.
“you know we can make this better.” the woman said nonchalantly.
“no, we can’t do anything, so just go away, you’re irritating me.” you started to get annoyed.
“you realize that you just called yourself irritating, right?” she said crossing her arms and smirking.
“yes, i do.”
“you know you’re really self-deprecating now. it’s depressing.” she sighed.
“are you trying to make me feel bad about what i did? because i’ll have you know that i don’t.” you said looking back at her for a second.
she didn’t say anything.
“what do you want?” you said, now whining.
“i want you to let me back in.”
“aww what’s wrong are you lonely?” you joked before straightening up and saying. “absolutely not.”
“do you truly think that separating from apart of yourself was the right thing to do?”
“yes! because you can’t control yourself, and you just fuck everything up!” you yelled.
“we can restore everything.” she said, climbing between the front and passenger seat and into the latter.
“we need to kill vecna.” you responded.
“don’t you deserve a break? all of you? you’re sad and you all deserve to be happy.” she said, repeating something you’d said before.
“don’t twist my words around! okay, i’m not sad, i’m angry! angry that we lost, and angry that i couldn’t do anything about it!” you seethed.
“and we can’t take breaks, you know that. vecna’s gonna strike at any point now, and we need to be prepared.” you tried to calm down, not wanting to crash.
“you can do something about it now, but you’re choosing not to!” she hissed at you.
“you know what! fine, i’ll indulge you. what is this grand plan you have to restore everything. “ you asked faux interested.
“do you trust me?” she asked seriously, ignoring your sarcasm.
“barely.” you said looking over at her again suspiciously before turning your eyes back to the road.
“i guess that works.” she said flippantly before reaching over and covering your eyes.
“what the hell are you doing?!”
“shhh i’m fixing what you won’t, you’ll thank me later i swear. now sleep.”
the last thing you heard was your “doppelgänger’s” chuckles before everything soon went completely dark and silent for you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
you woke up to a cacaphony of voices above and around you, all echoing and making your head hurt.
“is she breathing? i don’t think she’s breathing!” you heard a muffled voice from next to you.
“steve back up! all she’ll be able to inhale is you, if you don’t give her some space!” another, albeit, clearer voice sounded from behind you. almost like robin?
“her eyes are moving underneath her eyelids, maybe she’s waking up.” you heard… max? say.
you groaned as you finally opened your eyes, before quickly shutting them back, and squinting, trying to get used to the bright light around you.
“i’m okay, but what the hell is happening?” you asked trying to sit up.
“shh it’s okay, we just came in and found you on the ground, then brought you to the couch.” dustin said, trying to calm you down.
“what? dustin i was in my car, and where did you all come from anyways, what are you talking about?”
“we just found you here. your door was wide open and someone could’ve came in and-“ lucas started before being cut off.
“lucas you’re being dramatic.” erica said, making you open your eyes to finally look at the people around you.
“erica shut up!” he hissed back at her.
“okay you two are both being dramatic now!” steve chimed in before everybody started to go back and forth.
as they all started to drown each other out with jabs and insults towards each other, you could only look at one person.
“max? is that you? are you okay?! when did you- when did you wake up?” you asked her all at once, pulling her towards you into a hug.
“umm what are you talking about? how hard did you hit your head?” she asked pulling back to see if she could see if you’d gone crazy.
as you finally took the time to really look at what appeared to be your friends, you realized that something was just off about it. then quickly remembering the last interaction you had.
“shh you’ll thank me later i swear! now sleep.” you remembered the other version of you said, before doing something to you. you quietly gasped realizing that she let herself back in with you and did something drastic, your memories now merging with hers.
all you remembered were glimpses of you going to the middle of town, having some sort of breakdown, yelling something about how much pain you were in before everything went red, then you woke up here.
“babe, are you okay? you’re acting kind of weird.” a voice you never thought you’d hear again, said from your living room doorway.
“eddie?….i-is that really you? are you really here?” you asked quickly standing up, feeling like you were in a whirlwind.
“yeah..? where else would i be? are you sure you’re okay?” he asked holding his hands out for you.
now when eddie saw you slowly walking towards him, he thought you were going to hug him real tight, maybe even kiss him! because for some reason he couldn’t remember the last time you did either of those.
so imagine his surprise when he saw the now enraged look on your face, heard the shouts of protest from your friends, and the last thing he saw was the sight of your fist quickly swinging through the air, and straight into the right side of his jaw, before everything went black.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
a/n : not eddie thinking that shit he pulled would just slip past you 😭 this took me so fucking long i’m actually not alright. i wrote this to try and jumpstart my brain for ideas for “we’re going to summer camp bitches” and my “eddie x 007! reader” works but it really didn’t 😐
Here we go again Folks and today I'll be dissecting the popular topic of "Ruby isn't affected by anything across the volumes"
-I'm gonna be honest and say this claim is pretty much BS
Volume 3
- Ruby falling to the ground in sadness after seeing Penny's Dismantled Body
> Was mortified by Pyrrha's Death at the hands of Cinder
Volume 4
In the DC Comics(which take place during the events of Vol 3-4)
Ruby showcases alot of uneasiness and self doubt
▪︎I.E being worried about how Yang felt back at the end of Volume 3
▪︎Believing that she herself can't go on without her team backing her up
▪︎Questioning if she can truly make the right choice
"No One is truly alone".
"What you can do and Who you are-- These are Two very different things".
"No Person is Lesser for Being Alone,
You miss them but You aren't incomplete without them"
"They may bring Forth the Best in You
But the Best still Belongs to You".
- Episode 2 - Ruby is shown having Nightmares about the events of Volume 3
Vol 5
-After the battle with Tyrian, Ruby was upset that she indirectly got her uncle poisoned as well as not being so welcoming about team JNR joining her as the Problems got increasingly worses
"I should've never brought you guys into this"
But the Most powerful scene in this Volume for Ruby is her talk with Oscar
Where she tells him that how distraught she felt about Pyrrha's and Penny's Deaths & wished she could've gotten to know them better
Proclaiming that if she were have died, Pyrrha and Penny would try to keep fighting no matter the obstacle
As she then says that moving forward is what she has to do in order to protect who she cherishes left
Which parallels Issue #6 of the Comics
"Even When it's Hard---
--Just Live".
Which leads to the 2nd Strongest scene for Volume 5 Ruby
The Letter Scene
"Believe me when I say I know it can feel impossible. Like every single day is a struggle against some unstoppable monster we can never hope to beat. But we have to try…"
As Ruby is writing a letter to Yang about how although the World may seem bleak and while things may be painful in the long run, With the right people working together for a good cause can make an extraordinary change no matter how small it seems at first
Also Ruby LITERALLY TEARS UP DURING THIS SCENE
The Silver Eyes Activated after Ruby had a PTSD flashback of Pyrrha's Death when Jaune was going to clash with Cinder in the battle of Haven
■ Ruby was seen shocked by Weiss's fatal injury from Cinder's Spear strike
Volume 6
■ Felt a little Betrayed by Ozpin's Secret after Jinn revealed the Truth
■ Her Silver Eyes Activated When Blake was almost at death's door against the Apathy
■ Confronted Qrow about his lack of willingness to keep moving forward during "Lost" & "Stealing from the Elderly" Episode
Wanting him to view Team RJNR as people who can fight alongside him instead of just being a bunch of children who needs to be protected
"Just because you don't have an idea, doesn't mean we're out of options! Oz hasn't been here to tell us what to do, but we still managed to get this far anyway. We've been in bad situations before, and we don't need an adult to come save us or tell us what to do. We just did it our way! And I say we do it our way. And if you think you can keep up with us "kids"... we'd be happy to have you"
"We're all in this together, and we're all going to do the best we can. That's all anyone can do. And I know it's what you've always aimed for. We would've come whether or not you'd let us, so stop talking like we're your responsibility! We're not! But we could still use Qrow Branwen on our side"
Volume 7-8
■ Immediately felt guilty about lying to Ironwood about the Other stuff that happen with Ozpin
■ During Her Talk with Qrow, She even questions if she even knows what she has been doing was the correct decision
■ Ruby pleads Harriet in the "Ace Ops vs Team Rwby" to stand down and join her team in saving the citizens
■ Stood in Confusion and shock after witnessing a Silver Eyed Grimm Hybrid
■ in Volume 8 Finale,
Ruby is seen shedding a tear during her fight with Neo(Supposedly as a result of Yang's death)
---> in the Vol 9 sneak peek it showcases Ruby's POV where she was having constant anxiety attacks throughout the fight against Cinder
And in the Volume 9 Chapter 1 Sneak Peek Clip
Ruby breaks down and Cries to herself reflecting upon the events that have transpired
So Yeah I think this pretty much sums up how much these events have had an Impact on Ruby's emotions
(She ain't just Happy all the time and Ignores all the tragedy, if anything she tries using it as a Coping Mechanism of some sort in order to move forward & keep her mind away from the Darkness)
Hope yall Enjoy
He always felt a sense of euphoria when he was around you, and he always found his mind wandering back to you when the two of you were apart.
“I love them?” Giyuu asked, turning to face his fellow pillars Mitsuri and Tengen.
“I mean, from what you’ve said about them...” Mitsuri took a second to swallow the dango she was eating. “Yes, it really does seem like you’re in love with them!”
“Are you sure about that? Me being in love with...” Giyuu turned towards your direction.
Giyuu’s gaze softened when his eyes landed on your smiling face. You had been picking random cloves from the grass, and had finally found a four leaf clover, which excited you.
“Man! Look at the way you’re looking at them too!” Tengen groaned, rubbing his head. “And you say you’re not in love with them. Obvious bullshit.”
Mitsuri just giggled while Giyuu looked a Tengen, astounded.
“In love...?” Giyuu asked, raising a hand to his own blushing cheeks.
He always knew that he felt a special feeling around them, but love? Was it really that?
“I mean, if aren’t gonna believe us, it’s ok,” Tengen said, giving Giyuu a small smirk. “But we’re just saying that you most likely are in love with Y/N.”
Tengen got up from the bench he was sitting on, and waved at Giyuu.
“I gotta get going now, so bye.”
“You’ll be able to figure out those feelings Giyuu!” Mitsuri said, giving him a smile before following Tengen, leaving a confused Giyuu and his thoughts behind at the dango store.
Giyuu then glanced at you again, only to have his gaze met by yours, which startled him. You smiled before running towards Giyuu.
“Giyuu! Hello!”
“Oh... Hi.”
“I saw you talking with Mitsuri and Tengen! What were you guys talking about?”
“O-oh, nothing,” Giyuu gave you a small smile, trying to brush off his awkwardness. “What were you doing?”
“Oh, I was looking for a four leaf clover! There’s a wish I have, and I’m hoping that the four leaf clover brings me enough luck to make it come true.”
“Hm? What is it?”
“It’s a secret! Just kidding, I’ll tell you. I’m hoping for my next quest to go well.”
“You’re an excellent demon slayer though, Y/N, and you’ve never seemed so nervous about a quest? Did something happen?”
“Ah, there’s this gut feeling I have that...” You looked at the ground for a second before regaining your eye contact with Giyuu. “That something bad is going to happen. But it should be fine! It’s probably just a dumb thought!”
Although you just laughed it off like it was nothing, Giyuu couldn’t help but become worried. What if something bad really did happen to you? What if you ended up getting heavily injured? What if you even died?
“Giyuu, I’ve got to get going, unfortunately. I have to set off for my mission,” You gave him a small smile before turning around. “Goodbye!”
“Wait!” Giyuu’s hand suddenly latched onto one of your hands, startling you.
“Hm? Is there something wrong?” You ask him.
“I...”
“You...?”
“U-uh, I... I hope your mission goes well.”
You give him a warm smile before saying, “Thank you. I must get going now. Goodbye!”
He watched your figure disappear more and more into the distance. He couldn’t help but feel more and more anxious as you got farther and farther away. He now couldn’t shake the feeling that he too, feels like something bad is going to happen to you.
And something did happen.
“Y/N is dead, Giyuu.” Tanjiro said, showing up at the doorsteps of Giyuu’s mansion.
“Wh-what?”
“They’re dead...” He managed to choke out.
So it really was true. Giyuu had heard about it from his crow moments ago, but he refused to believe it. He thought it was some sort of mix-up, and that you weren’t truly dead.
“I’m s-so sorry,” Tanjiro choked out, tears falling from his eyes. “I wasn’t able to protect them. This is all my fault.”
“Don’t blame yourself Tanjiro,” Giyuu patted Tanjiro’s back lightly. “Y/N wouldn’t have wanted you to.”
Tanjiro managed to look at Giyuu one more time, trying to give him a small smile before he left Giyuu’s mansion.
As soon as Tanjiro left, Giyuu immediately shut the door and broke down on the floor.
Why?
Why didn’t he tell you that he loved you that day?
Why was he such a coward?
Negative and regretful thoughts clouded Giyuu’s head as he continued to sob about your passing.
He never got to tell you how much he loved your smile, your hair, just everything about you. He would never be able to express his feelings for you because you were gone.
There wasn’t a single day after that where Giyuu didn’t regret not expressing his feelings for you. Every single day, he always wondered if anything would’ve been different if he had just told you his feelings for you, or if he had stopped you from going on that mission.
He even thought about that until his last breath.
Giyuu was sent on a mission to exterminate a group of demons, nothing that was supposed to be too hard for him. However, there wasn’t supposed to be an upper-rank moon there. He had tried to kill it, but it had overpowered him and sent him to his death.
As Giyuu laid on the ground with a large wound stretching from his chest to his stomach, his mind wandered back to those unsaid words.
“Please...” Giyuu whispered, his eyesight getting hazier and hazier with every passing second. “Please let me tell Y/N that I love them in my next life.”
And with that, Giyuu had taken his last breath.
Time skip... (After all the demons were slain)
Giyuu waddled out of the bakery happily with his freshly baked raisin bread. He had always loved the Kamado Bakery’s raisin bread, and always woke up at 6:30 on Saturdays to get the freshly baked ones.
Giyuu sat on a park bench and started munching on one of the loaves of raisin bread. He smiled to himself.
“Nothing beats the raisin bread at the Kamado bakery.” He said quietly, taking another bite of the bread.
“Actually, I’d personally have to disagree with that.”
Giyuu turned towards the side of him to find a figure leaning on a tree, observing Giyuu.
“Who even are you?”
“Oh, I’m Y/N! Sorry for interrupting your eating time! I just wanted to say that I think their yakisoba bread is better. I mean have you tried that stuff? It’s so freaki-”
At that moment, you and Giyuu both felt a painful throb in your heads, and memories came rushing back to you both. Memories of your past life as demon slayers.
“Giyuu?! Wait, you- you’re...” You paused for a second, before exclaiming. “You’re Tomioka Giyuu?!”
Giyuu didn’t say anything, he just simply pulled you in for a hug, not caring if he had dropped his raisin bread.
“I missed you so much Y/N...” Giyuu muttered, his head buried into your shoulder. “And I’m so sorry that I couldn’t tell you this earlier.”
“Tell me what earlier?”
“I’m so sorry that I couldn’t tell you that I loved you...” Giyuu drew his head back and looked you in the eye, giving you a small smile. “So I’ll tell you now. I’ve loved you ever since we both joined the corps together, and I’m so sorry that I didn’t tell you I loved you that day. If I could go back to tell you, I would. But since I can’t, I’ll tell you now. This time, I won’t chicken out like last time. Y/N, I have always loved you, and I always will.”
girl next door [one] // wanda maximoff
summary: somebody new moves into the flat next to yours and you feel the need to introduce yourself, only to learn she's not very talkative
warning/s: none i don’t think??
author’s note: first part to a three-parter i’ve been working on, hope you like it! (also the masterlist needs to be updated so soz about that)
part two | part three | part four | part five |masterlist | wattpad
Shopping bags in hand, I returned from the supermarket to my flat when I saw the usually-vacant flat next door to me in use. The front door was slightly ajar, with several moving boxes in front and the sound of someone moving about inside. Huh, so someone moved in. It had been vacant for half a year now – it was nice to finally have a neighbour!
I headed to my own flat, my nosey self taking a peek through the door to see if I could have an idea of who was moving in, but I couldn't see anyone, so I continued to go into my own place and unpack my groceries. After doing so, I decided to head next door and introduce myself, excited to meet someone new in the building.
The boxes from earlier were gone now, probably all inside, and the door was shut like I usually saw it. I sucked up a breath before knocking on, a friendly smile reserved on my lips for whoever would open.
It took a moment, but the door finally opened and revealed a brunette with bright hazel eyes and a mildly confused expression on her face. She seemed strangely familiar, but I couldn't quite pinpoint it.
"Hey! I just wanted to come 'round and introduce myself. I'm your new neighbour." I pointed to my door next to hers and added, "I saw you moving in earlier. I'm Y/N."
She pursed her lips, eyes glancing around subtly before looking me up and down. "Er, hi... I'm Wanda."
I detected a slight accent in her voice with the few words she spoke and became immediately intrigued since everyone in this building was usually the same old American. I didn't ask about it though, as I didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable at our first meeting.
"Nice to meet you, Wanda," I returned with a smile. "I've been living here for a year now, so if you need a hand with anything or need pointers for where to get the best Chinese, I'm your girl." I paused, expecting some sort of reaction, but she didn't move a muscle. Swallowing awkwardly, I added, "Of course, if you just need a hand with unpacking or anything, I'm also happy to help."
She still didn't reply, and in fact, she looked a bit peeved with my presence which made me realise that maybe she just wasn't a talkative person.
I cleared my throat nervously before finishing with, "I'll, er, I'll leave you to it. Sorry to disturb you..."
I chewed on my lower lip as I avoided her piercing gaze and went back to my own place. Not everybody was interested in befriending their neighbours, I got that, so I respected her decision and decided not to bother her in the future. It didn't make me feel any less embarrassed at my intrusiveness though.
I didn't think much of it until the following morning when I was watering my plants out on the fire escape. My fire escape was joined with the neighbour's – the neighbour that usually didn't exist but was now Wanda. The brunette was stood there, drinking some coffee and staring out into the distance. I debated wishing her a good morning, but decided against it as I recalled her being quite introverted. Instead, I awkwardly watered the several plant pots I had, opting to stay quiet so I could be in and out without bugging her once more.
To my surprise, she spoke up and it took me a second to realise she was talking to me.
I held my watering jug upright as I glanced in her direction. She was already staring at me, deep set eyes darkened over the rim of her coffee cup.
"What's that?" I asked, not sure what she’d said.
She cleared her throat, eyes flickering to the plants to distract from her discomfort. "I'm sorry. For being strange yesterday. You were being warm and welcoming and I just..." She paused, releasing a shaky breath. "I've had a bad past few weeks. I didn't mean to take it out on you."
I definitely wasn't expecting that, then realised how many bad days I'd had and taken out on random strangers. I didn't blame her and instead felt bad for her – moving into a new place was supposed to be exciting, so I couldn't imagine what had ruined her past few weeks.
"Well, apology accepted," I said with a small smile. "And I hope things begin to look up for you soon, Wanda."
Her lips twitched into the tiniest of smiles and I noticed how different she looked when she wasn't down in the dumps – she was quite beautiful.
I finished watering my plants before giving her a final smile. I was about to head back inside, but I hung back curiously.
"Er, Wanda, if you don't mind me saying," I started randomly, "you seem familiar. We haven't met before, have we?"
She raised her eyebrows with surprise. "Oh, really? You don't kn–?" She tilted her head to the side, as if expecting me to understand, but I wasn't sure what she wanted. "I... I guess I just have one of those faces."
I studied her curiously, trying to figure it out. But nothing was coming to mind, so I hummed in agreement. "Yeah, I guess so... anyway, enjoy the rest of your day."
She nodded. "You, too."
–
The next time I saw Wanda was probably a week later, just after I collected my mail from the mailroom. I'd received one of those random free trial boxes for a subscription I must have accidentally signed up for – a box of different flavoured trail mixes – and felt bad throwing it out since it was still food at the end of the day. There were nuts in the mixes, which I was allergic to, so I decided to knock on Wanda's door and see if she wanted them.
I hadn't spoken to her since she moved in, except for the occasional good morning on the fire escape if we saw one another, so I hoped she was a little happier compared to when we last spoke properly. Maybe whatever had bothered her was resolved now.
When she opened the door, she seemed surprised that it was me, probably not expecting me to stop by again after last time.
I offered her a smile. "Hey, Wanda. I, er, hope this isn't a bad time."
She shook her head after recovering from her surprise. "No, no, it's not. Is everything okay?" She paused, glancing around, unprepared. "Do you want to come in or...?"
"It's okay, I'm good here," I said when I saw how uncomfortable she seemed. I wasn't just about to invite myself into her flat because she felt she needed to ask. "I just stopped by because, well, do you want this?" I handed her the box, adding, "I got a free sample in the post. Didn't wanna throw it out because it's food, y'know? And I'm allergic to nuts, so my throat will probably puff up and stop me from breathing which isn't good."
I laughed awkwardly, internally cringing at how I spoke utter nonsense because of her lack of her words and my stupid need to fill the silence.
"Unless you're allergic to nuts too," I added as an afterthought, when she glanced at the packaging with no readable expression. "In which case I should probably throw them right away and this whole thing is stupid."
After what felt like an eternity of me not shutting up, she lifted her gaze, eyes softening with a hint of amusement.
"I'm not allergic to nuts," she assured me, before nodding. "Thank you, Y/N."
I relaxed, not even realising how tense my shoulders were. "That's– that's good... so, how are you settling into your new place? All good, I hope?"
Subconsciously, I chewed on the inside of my mouth, wondering why I was so eager to speak to somebody who clearly didn't want to speak to me. She was so quiet, not a woman of many words, yet I couldn't help but feel responsible for welcoming her.
"It's nice," she said, glancing around thoughtfully. "It's quiet. Private."
I nodded in agreement, eyes falling to her doorframe as I said, "Yeah, that's true. Nothing eventful ever happens here."
She hummed, acknowledging my words. I figured the conversation had ran dry and I'd stayed a little too long, so I tried to think of a way to end it without her feeling forced to. Instead, she spoke up next.
"I like your garden."
I furrowed my brows, wondering what she was talking about.
"The flowers on our fire escape," she clarified, small smile tugging at her lips. "They're beautiful."
I stifled a laugh. "I mean, thanks, but it's barely a garden. I've always wanted a proper space to grow stuff, but obviously I can't have that here."
"Well, you've done a great job with what you have," she complimented, and I was sure it was the most she'd spoken to me since moving in. I suddenly didn't feel like she disliked my presence as much as I once thought.
"Thank you," I said gratefully. "Maybe you can start your own alongside mine some day."
"Maybe," she shrugged, "but probably not. Everything I touch–" She paused, life leaving her eyes momentarily, and head looking down to her shoes. "Everything I touch dies."
I pressed my lips together, not expecting the awkward silence to follow. Wanda seemed stuck in thought and I wasn't sure how I'd managed to bring the conversation down so suddenly, especially with the talk of flowers.
"The lovely thing about flowers," I began, earning her attention and hoping to brighten the mood, "is that they only require a little love, some sunlight and some water to keep going. They tend to take care of themselves. Perfect for even the blackest of thumbs."
She let out a breath through her nose, a half chuckle and half acknowledgment of my comment. It was the closest I'd get to a response, so I ran a hand through my hair and took a step back.
"Anyway, I'm glad you're settling in okay," I concluded with a kind smile. "Again, if you need anything, I'm just next door."
"Thank you," she said, returning the smile, and her eyes sparkled as she did. "Have a good afternoon, Y/N."
"You, too, Wanda."
–
The apartment complex I lived in rarely had people entering that I didn't recognise – I'd lived here long enough to know who was who, even the postwoman and maintenance guy. So, when I was leaving for the supermarket and saw a suspicious-looking man walking down the hall, eyes checking every door, I grew curious.
"You okay there, sir?" I called out to him after locking my front door.
He looked my way, readjusting his cap lower on his head, casting a shadow over his face. "Er, yeah..." He hesitated, glancing at his phone before looking to me again. "Actually, maybe you can help me. I'm looking for Wanda Maximoff's apartment. Do you know which one that is?"
I narrowed my eyes at the tall stranger. "I'm sure you can understand my concern when I ask who's asking."
"Oh, no, I completely understand," he said with a nod, and I could swear I had seen him before. "I'm an old friend of hers."
I quirked a brow. Strange man who claimed to a woman-who-lived-alone's friend? That had trouble written all over it. And from one woman to another, I was concerned, even if I didn’t know her very well.
"That's not saying much, sir," I said, biting back the annoyance. "I think that maybe you should–"
I stopped speaking when Wanda's door opened and she popped her head out. She looked to me before spotting the tall stranger, shoulders relaxing.
"I thought I heard you out here," she mumbled to the stranger, before stepping out fully and giving me a reassuring look. "It's okay, Y/N. I know him."
I nodded, glancing at the man, before meeting Wanda's eyes knowingly. "If you're sure..."
She seemed comfortable as she crossed her arms, hugging herself. Smiling reassuringly, she nodded. I relaxed when I saw she knew the suspicious stranger.
"In that case, sorry 'bout the interrogation," I apologised to her friend. "But, you gotta understand with the whole getup you have..."
Her friend chuckled deeply, looking to his shoes with amusement. "Yeah, sorry about that, ma'am. Didn't mean to worry you. It's nice to know Wanda here has thoughtful neighbours though."
"I'm twenty-two, not a ma'am," I said with amusement, before shaking my head. "Anyway, I should get going. Sorry again."
Wanda and her friend nodded as I left them; I was just glad it wasn't some creepy perv stalking our building – that had happened once.
I headed to the supermarket to do some shopping when I saw Wanda again, this time in the milk aisle. Well, she actually saw me, her trolley stopping before mine as she got my attention.
"Oh, Wanda, hey," I greeted her with a smile. "Fancy seeing you here."
She cracked a smile. "Yeah, well, I needed to pick up a few things. Milk, actually," she grabbed some from the fridge to prove her point, "when I saw you."
I nodded, before remembering earlier and feeling a little embarrassed. "Hey, er, sorry about before with your friend. I hope I didn't offend them or anything."
"No need to apologise," she said with a shake of her head. "It's actually very nice of you to have my back like that. I mean, we don't even know each other that well, but you watched out for me. I appreciate it."
"It's the bare minimum of a neighbour," I joked, before settling into genuine smile. "Besides, I'd like to think you'd do the same."
"Of course," she agreed, nodding slightly, before her eyes drifted to the fridge.
I noticed that every conversation we shared felt unfinished, like there was more to be said but neither of us had the guts to say it. Like now, for example, I wanted to check in and see if she was okay, but I felt like I was overstepping since, as she'd put it, we didn’t know each other very well. So, I changed the subject instead.
"So, just milk then?" I asked, nodding to her trolley which had a few bits and bobs in.
She was confused for a moment, zoning back into reality, before it registered in her mind and she answered, "Along with a few other things. And you?"
"Pretty much same," I said with a shrug.
Her eyes lingered in my trolley as she stifled a smile. "That looks like a lot more than a few things, Y/N."
I almost laughed. "Technically, yeah, I guess..." I met her curious gaze, explaining, "I'm having a meal with my sister, her boyfriend and my boyfriend at my place tonight. Cooking a lamb roast." She raised her eyebrows with mild surprise, making me shrug dismissively. "It's not that big of a deal, but there's a lot to prepare and I like things to be perfect, so yeah."
She licked her lips and nodded. "It sounds great. Good luck, I guess. I'm sure it'll turn out wonderful."
"Fingers crossed."
She chuckled, glancing at her shoes, making her dark hair fall in front of her like a curtain. When she looked back up, I couldn't help but smile at how cute she looked.
"I'll leave you to it then," she said, before redirecting her trolley around me. "See you whenever."
"See you." I nodded as she walked past me, shoulder brushing mine and leaving me startled at the weird effect she had on me whenever we spoke.
It didn't last for long though, so I brushed it off and continued to do my shop. The evening couldn't come soon enough, and I soon found myself entertaining my boyfriend, my sister and her boyfriend at my dinner table.
"So I was cooking us a nice meal, as we planned, and she ended up having a go at me because of the mess I made afterwards," my boyfriend, Teddy, was explaining to my sister and her boyfriend, Caleb. "That's why I don't try to be romantic anymore."
I paused from sipping my water, looking over at Teddy with an are you serious? look on my face. Y/S/N and Caleb laughed at Teddy's story, but I wasn't as amused as they were.
"Aw, c'mon, babe, don't be pissed off again," Teddy pleaded teasingly from beside me. "It's a joke. I'm joking."
"But that's not how it happened," I corrected him, before looking to the couple before me. "What Teddy means to say is that I had just cleaned the kitchen and told him that when he cooks, he should try to clean as he goes along so it's easier, but of course, he drops cream everywhere and I had to clean it out of the crevices of the counter. All over again."
Y/S/N and Caleb laughed at my retelling of the story, and Teddy frowned playfully as he looked my way.
"And that's definitely not the reason you're not romantic," I said to him promisingly. "When was the last time you even got me flowers?"
He tried to take lead of the conversation again, straightening up and asking, "When was the last time you got me flowers? Feminism, Y/N. It goes both ways."
He was never usually this obnoxious and it was irking me. Y/S/N and Caleb assumed it was all a joke, so were laughing it off, but I was starting to get frustrated. How could he try and make me look terrible in front of my own family?
"I bought you flowers two weeks ago when you got your promotion, remember?" I answered him with a raised brow.
"Damn, she got you there, Ted," Caleb said like it was a burn.
I subtly clenched my jaw and distracted myself with sipping water. Teddy sighed and tried to wrap an arm around me, but I pulled away slightly.
"Oh, come on, you're not mad, are you? This is all in good faith, babe," he said lightly.
I downed my water and looked between them all. "I think I'm gonna get some air. You guys enjoy your drinks."
They all chorused their disagreements, but I couldn't be bothered dealing with them when they were tipsy and annoying, so I ignored them and headed to the fire escape for a breather.
When I reached the railing, I sighed immediately, feeling like a weight had been lifted from my shoulders. Until I heard a creaking noise and jumped with surprise before seeing Wanda sitting on her side of the fire escape, drink in hand.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you," she said apologetically.
I breathed out, turning around and leaning my back against the railing so I could see her better. "It's okay, it's not you. I just– I forgot you could be there. Used to living without a neighbour. It's taking some getting used to."
I forced a small smile to reassure her, before looking down and taking small breaths of fresh air. Teddy could get under my skin at times, tonight being one of those times, and it was happening more and more lately. Why couldn't he just be less... annoying?
"Is everything okay?" Wanda asked, and I looked up fo see her green-gold eyes glowing in the dark under the moon light.
"Yeah," I said with a nod. I glanced inside, seeing my three guests laughing it up like I was still there. I collapsed on my chair and stared into the bustling city ahead. "Why wouldn't it be?"
Wanda hesitated. "Didn't you have that dinner tonight?"
I leaned in the palm of my hand, mumbling, "Yeah. It's still going on. I just needed some air."
Wanda must have sensed there was more to my words – it didn't take a genius to see that – but to my relief, she didn't push on. All she said was, "Oh, okay," and stayed quiet.
The two of us sat there, in a comfortable silence, staring into the city and revelling in the moon's presence. It was beautiful out, though not a single star could be seen because of the city's pollution. Instead, the moon hung high above our heads and conflicted with the many street and building lights of New York City, thriving even past dusk.
I probably could have stayed there all night, preferring Wanda's silent yet comfortable presence to whatever was waiting for me back inside. But to my dismay, I was called back in and sighed quietly to myself.
"I should head back in," I excused myself, standing up to leave. But I lingered by the door, asking Wanda, "Have you eaten dinner yet?" She seemed puzzled with my question, and I continued speaking anyway. "I made a lot of food and have loads of leftovers I can't finish myself."
She seemed to understand what I was implying and shook her head. "That's okay, Y/N, thank you."
"Wanda, I insist," I said with a small smile. "It'll just go in the bin otherwise."
She was still reluctant. "Honestly, it's fine."
i wasn't taking no for an answer though. "I'll stop by in a bit to drop it off."
"Y/N, I–"
"See you then!" I exclaimed before heading back inside and leaving her no choice to deny it.
"There she is," Y/S/N called out to me when I returned. "You feel better?"
"Perfect," I said sarcastically.
She laughed. "C'mon, we're all sorry. Besides, Caleb and I have to go now, so we want to end on a good note."
Was I being too butt hurt? Probably.
"Right, sorry," I said, looking to them all, before saying, "Do you guys want any food to bring back with you?"
"You guys enjoy it," Caleb said with a dismissive wave of his hand. "It was delicious though, Y/N. Thanks for the lovely evening."
"Anytime," I said with a tired smile, before leading them to the door and looking to my sister. "Let me know when you're home, yeah?"
She hummed in agreement, before pulling me into a tight hug. "Love you, Y/N."
"Love you, too," I returned with a playful eye roll.
After bidding them a goodbye, I was left alone with Teddy, who was surprisingly washing the dishes.
"This your way of apologising?" I joked, stopping by the sink.
He glanced at me with apologetic eyes. "Depends. Is it working?"
As I met his brown eyes, I thought back to how frustrating he was acting earlier. He must have been acting out in front of guests for some reason, but he wasn't always like that. Maybe I was overreacting.
"I'll let you know when you're done," I retorted, making him smile with amusement.
As he did that, I worked on filling some containers with leftover dinner for Wanda, being sure to include a generous amount of everything.
"Who's that for?" Teddy asked, noticing what I was doing.
"Wanda, my new neighbour."
"Never heard of her."
I gave him a knowing look. "Hence the word 'new'."'
He returned the stare. "What I mean is, I've never seen her around."
I shrugged, finishing packing the containers and stacking them to carry. "She prefers to keep to herself."
"What, like a weirdo?"
I rolled my eyes. "No, Teddy. She's just private. Introverted, if you will."
"Sounds like a weirdo to me..."
I chose to ignore him as I left the flat and headed to Wanda's. She opened up quicker than usual, probably since she was expecting me this time.
"Bon appétit," I joked, before holding out the takeaway containers. "It's lamb roast with veg, potatoes, some gravy and bread."
"You really didn't have to," she said, though accepted the food. When she glanced down at it, she added, "This is a lot for one person."
I couldn't help the smile on my face. "Enough for second's. You'll have to let me know if you like it. It's my best recipe."
She snickered, eyes meeting mine. "I'm sure it's delicious... do you want to come in?"
Stepping to the side, she looked to me with what I think was a hopeful expression. I felt bad when I smiled sadly, shaking my head.
"I'd love to, Wanda, but I've actually still got my boyfriend over and I can't really, y'know..."
"No worries," she was quick to reassure. "It's– no, it's okay, honestly. I just thought I'd ask."
It was the first time she'd ever asked and meant it, which meant she was finally getting comfortable with me. I would have preferred to go in, but I couldn't just leave Teddy, nor kick him out.
"Maybe we can hang out tomorrow?" I asked hopefully. "If you want, that is. Because I want to. But I don't want to just invite myself over."
She seemed amused as she nodded. "Tomorrow sounds great. Maybe I can make you dinner, as a thank you for this food."
I grew a little excited at spending a bit more time with the quiet, reserved brunette. "I'd like that."
She nodded, lips pursed into a suppressed smile, and glanced at the food in her hand. "Great. Well... have a good evening, Y/N. And thank you again for the food."
"Good evening," I returned, subconsciously memorising the rare smile she gave me, before leaving her to it.
When I returned to my flat, all I could think about was the next night and getting to know Wanda.
Love Again (Bjorn x Reader)
Summary: Every nine years, Vikings travel to Uppsala to worship the Gods. After everything that Bjorn’s been through, his wife leaving him and breaking his heart, things start to change when he meets the princess who has many stories behind her name; you.
Warnings: it’s long and there’s still another part coming, angst, fluff, strong language, dueling, mentions of drinking, Uppsala stuff, I hope you guys enjoy it :))
Word Count: 4,306
A/n: So, this is actually a long, long overdue request from @honestlyya and there are quiet a few things that are different from the show. 1) Bjorn and Porunn never had baby Siggy, 2) Aslaug never happened so Ubbe, Hvitserk, Sigurd, and Ivar are all children of Lagertha and they are older than they are at the point in the series when Porunn leaves. This is all part of the request.
Vikings Masterlist
The last time Bjorn was at Uppsala, he was a child and his sister was still alive. Now, he is a man, with four brothers, and a wife that left him because of her insecurities of the scar on her face. He doesn’t expect his heart to be healed by the Gods over the next nine days. But, perhaps coming here was a good idea. It might give him a chance to forget Porunn, for his heart to heal.
Many people from different parts of the country come to Uppsala. Sometimes, people from other lands come to celebrate and give sacrifices to the Gods. When Bjorn sees an army-like group arrive, one man carrying a purple banner with a sword and ax crossing each other, only one person catches his eye. The woman leading the army.
You look behind you as the men and women following you split up to either visit the temple or set up tents for the nights. Now that you have time for yourself, you have to decide what to do with yourself. But when your gaze lands on the temple, a bright smile grows on your face.
Bjorn hears Ivar walking towards him with those heavy, uneven steps because of the crutch he uses to walk. He stands beside his oldest brother, follows his gaze to find out what or who he’s staring at, only to chuckle when he sees his gaze fixed on you. “You stare at (Y/n) of Forsa.” Ivar’s words make Bjorn’s head snap to him and his eyes grow slightly wide.
For someone so talked about, Bjorn never thought this is what you’d look like. He never expected someone called The Protector of Forsa, someone whose skills with a blade are told like sagas about the Gods, to capture his attention with just one look.
He remembers how Porunn caught his attention and how he fell for her the first time he laid eyes on her. The feeling now is almost similar. Except this time, the feeling that draws his eyes to you is stronger than what he felt with his past wife.
Even though you don’t come from Norway or worship the Gods Bjorn and his people do, you and your people make it important to educate yourselves in the culture of others. Bjorn knows your people speak many languages because of that. And seeing you here in Uppsala only makes Bjorn’s broken heart jump in excitement. Especially when you turn your head and your gaze meets his.
Two people walk up to you, the King and Queen of Forsa, and you turn to greet them with a bright smile and a hug. Your parents, making you… “The princess of Forsa,” Bjorn finishes his thoughts out loud, making Ivar who still stands beside him chuckle and nod his head.
On top of the story of being a fierce warrior, you’ve raised your own army to fight in your father’s name. It must have been your army that he saw arriving with you.
To break his stare, Ivar shoves Bjorn’s shoulder with his and nods to Ragnar and Lagertha nearing you and the King and Queen of Forsa. “Are you going to spend the nine days staring at her and pouting, or are you going to talk to her?” Ivar questions, looking up to him when Bjorn turns his head to look at his young brothers.
Bjorn sighs, turns his head back to look at you as you greet Ragnar and Lagertha, and bites the inside of his cheek before he starts to walk forward. Unaware that his other three brothers have now joined Ivar to see these events unfold because he keeps his eyes on you, he takes in a deep breath as your head turns to face him.
“King Hurr, Queen Vealda, this is our oldest son, Bjorn Ironside,” Ragnar states with a proud smile on his face as he holds his hand out to gesture to Bjorn.
He simply nods his head to your mother and father before looking back at you. “Princess (Y/n). I have heard many stories about you,” Bjorn says, taking your hand in his and bringing up to kiss the back of your knuckles, all while keeping his eyes locked with yours.
Lagertha notices this, notices the look in his eyes and the lingering hold he has on your hand, only letting go when you smile at him and smile. “About me, or my army?” you ask, slightly tilting your head to the side as he smirks down at you.
“Why not both?” he responds, making you smile and turn your gaze to your mother who nods her head in approval. “I’d like to hear things from your side,” he mentions, taking a small step forward and making your head turn back to him.
“It would be my pleasure, Bjorn Ironside,” you reply, turning to start walking away and nodding for him to join you.
Your parents and his watch you both walk away, the conversation starting lightly between both of you and a smile never leaving your face. Your father turns to Ragnar, pleased to see the two of you getting along right from the beginning. “I have a feeling we shall talk again before leaving Uppsala,” Hurr mentions as he takes his wife’s hand and starts to walk away.
That night, you told Bjorn all about your travels with your army and the places you’ve been where you’ve learned new languages and cultures.
Bjorn only met you yesterday and he wants to spend the next day with you. He has his family’s permission, his brothers are more than happy that he’ll be out of their hair, and his parents happy that he’s not moping around still about Porunn. They’re all happy that he’s finding something to keep his mind preoccupied from his past wife.
Walking around the grove, between those still drunk from the previous night or passed out from the effects of alcohol or other substances, he’s certain he won’t find you among these people. He’s certain he’ll find you either at or still in your tent where he led you last night after your long talk with him.
He finds you, seated in front of your tent with a sword in front of you and a grinding stone in your hand that you run up and down the blade. There’s a calm look on your face as you focus on the blade in front of you, and it makes him smile to himself.
“Couldn’t help yourself?” he asks, breaking your focus on your sword and making your gaze lift to him as he steps closer to you.
Seeing him makes you smile, especially when you remember the previous night. “No, I’m making sure I’m ready for tomorrow,” you mention, placing your sword to the side and standing to your feet. “One of my men has initiated a duel tomorrow and I couldn’t refuse,” you explain, placing your hands on your hips as he comes to stand in front of you.
He chuckles, nods his head, and glances down to your sword for a moment before looking at you again. “I thought I might ask if you’d like to join me for a walk. To the fjord?” he asks, nodding in the direction away from the temple and in the direction of a cliff that looks over the fjord some use when they arrive in ships.
Biting your lip, you glance over his shoulder to where he gestures before nodding to your head. He breathes a silent sigh of relief and turns to walk by your side when you walk forward. “I must say, I didn’t expect you to want to spend more time with me after I bored you last night,” you chuckle, folding your hands in front of you and dropping your gaze to the ground.
“If anything, I couldn’t stop thinking about you last night,” he mentions, his words making your heart skip a beat and your head snap up to him. “It’s been a long time since something like that has happened for me.”
You hum, nod your head as you turn your head back to look in front of you. “You don’t have a wife?” you question, thinking that it might be wrong for him to think about another woman when he has a wife. He looks about the age where he could have one, and you’re sure that women throw themselves at the sons of Ragnar’s feet.
Hearing him take in a sharp breath, you slowly turn your head up to him and find him staring at his feet with a sorrowful look on his face. Was it the wrong question for you to ask? Are you prying in places you shouldn’t?
He looks down at you, that sad look still on his face, as if he’s just had his heart broken and it makes you stop walking for just a minute. “No. I don’t have a wife,” he states, tearing his gaze away from you again before he starts to walk again.
You bite your lip, think for a moment if this means that he no longer wishes to be in your presence anymore and if you should turn back. But, after a few steps, he stops and turns his head over his shoulder to look at you. “Tell me about your siblings,” he says, encouraging you to join him again. It makes you smile as you walk forward.
“Well, I have one very much older brother who married when I was young,” you state as you and he start walking again. “And that’s where it ends. I’m afraid my family isn’t as interesting as yours,” you add with a small laugh. A laugh that makes Bjorn smile and treasures the sound.
“I used to have a sister. Who I imagine would have become a shieldmaiden,” Bjorn mentions, and you stare up at him, waiting for him to carry on. “She died when a plague came to Kattegat,” he simply states, keeping his eyes in front of him as his jaw goes tense.
You reach up to touch his arm and his head turns to look at where your hand touches him, the sight making his heart flutter and the corner of his lips to pull slightly into a smile. “I’m sorry,” you whisper, giving him a gentle smile which he returns. “I couldn’t imagine what it would be like to lose my brother,” you say, dropping your hand away from his arm as you fold your hands together. “At least you have four brothers now.”
He hums, smiles to himself as the memory of the teases his brothers sang before he left to find you, either at each other or at him. It never stops with them, and Bjorn suspects that’s what happens when there are so many boys in a house.
“They definitely keep everyone on their feet. Each other, me, my mother and father,” he mentions, making you chuckle and bite your lip as you nod your head at his words.
“That reminds me of my brother,” you say, turning your head up to him as you smile. Bjorn can see that you’re thinking of a memory. “Always keeping me on my toes.”
How could he forget about the duel you told him about? It was the first thing on his mind when he woke that morning and the only thing he wished to do was to go and see if it had already started. From the sounds he hears the moment he steps out of the small cabin for him and his family - the royal family of Kattegat - he gathers that this duel might have already started.
Bjorn follows the cheers, shouting, and the sound of swords clashing with shields, ringing as they hit one another. Hvitserk and Ubbe join Bjorn on his way to your family’s side of the grove, eager to get involved themself, should it come to that.
Just in time to see you with your sword against a young-looking opponent’s neck and his against yours, Bjorn can’t help a smile growing on his face, especially when he sees the determination on your face. Determination to win.
The crowd that consists mostly of the men from your army urges you and your opponent to carry on, not wanting this fight to end so easily. The uproar when you both come to a standstill, panting heavy breathes only entices you more.
Discarding your shield to the side, you pull out a battle knife and push away from your opponent. Snarling at him as you slightly crouch down to prepare for an attack, he throws his shield to the side and rolls his shoulders as he starts to walk around you.
You do the same, both of you waiting for the other to attack. But you know, never attack first. It shows impulsiveness, not cunning. And as your opponent rushes towards you with a battle cry, you’re quick to step to the side, trap his sword between yours and your battle knife to disarm him.
Then, you press the knife against his chest and the sword to his throat, a victorious smile on your face. “Will there ever be a time when you won’t come out on top, princess?” your opponent chuckles as you pull away, sheathing your knife and shrugging your shoulders.
“There is still much you must learn if you wish to defeat me one day,” you mention, patting him on the shoulder before he walks away in his defeat. “Anyone else want to have a try?” you ask, glancing around the crowd gathering around you.
Ubbe looks up at Bjorn, sees the deep stare he has on you, and smiles to himself as he pushes him forward. “My brother will have a go.” His words make Bjorn’s head snap over his shoulder to coldly glare at him.
You turn toward the noise to see your new opponent, your smile slowly falling when you see Bjorn looking back at you. But you're not upset. If anything, you’re slightly concerned about yourself having to duel someone so...build like a God. It would be a bit of a challenge for you, you think.
But you never say no to a challenge.
Someone hands Bjorn a sword and a shield, making him take his eyes off of you for a moment. When he does look back at you, he sees that you’ve opted to not have a shield which makes him refuse one too. Instead, you go for another sword.
He meets you in the center of the circle created by those that have gathered to watch this duel and you both touch swords, a sign of a friendly battle that’s about to come. You smile at him as you take a step back, twirling the swords in your hands as you roll your shoulders back. Bjorn smirks back at you, ready to see what it will be like to fight against you, someone he’s heard much about when it comes to fighting. An amazing shieldmaiden.
Expecting you to make the first move, he stops your blade midair and then realizes how close you have come. He gets the chance to stare into your eyes once more, as he had yesterday.
You push him back, your sword ringing against his and making the crowd cheer. Bjorn had a feeling you wouldn’t go easy on him, but he can’t help notice the playful smirk you have on your face as he readies himself for another attack. It’s a smirk that makes him chuckle to himself.
His mind wanders, thinking about what it would be like to train with you. Alone. What he wouldn’t give to be alone with you right now. He cherishes the moment he spent with you since he met you and he hopes, he prays to the Gods that they will give him more time with you.
As he loses himself in his thoughts for a second, you attack again. This time, with both swords. Bjorn quickly snaps back to reality and just manages to swing his sword to counter your attack. He had no idea you have so much force behind an attack. You must be deadly on a battlefield, he thinks.
Many men are rooting for Bjorn, probably hoping to see you lose at least one fight so that they can get back the money they had lost on bets against you. “You might have a chance,” you speak, pressing your swords harder against his. He knows you’re talking about the men urging him to defeat you. “If you concentrated a bit more.”
He laughs, swings his sword to push yours away, and then moves to attack you in three strong blows which send you walking backward. “You don’t have to tell me how to fight,” he teases.
Then he brings his sword down with all the force he has, making you fall on one knee with your swords crossed above your head to stop him. The crowd abrupts in a loud cheer for no one has ever brought you so close to the ground.
But the fight is not over yet.
Even though you’re panting, you fight to pull his sword out of his hands to disarm him. But just as you push yourself onto your feet again, Bjorn grabs your wrist and takes a sword from you before you can win this duel. He doesn’t let go and instead pulls you closer to him so your chest presses against him. The crowd goes quiet.
“When can I be alone with you again?” The question falls from his lips, making you smile and shift slightly on your feet as you think about an answer. “Tomorrow night?”
You can’t stop yourself from nodding. “Yes,” you whisper, stepping back and dropping your sword to your side as a bright smile spreads across your face.
Bjorn watches you turn and walk away, his heart swelling in happiness that he’ll get to spend time alone with you again. It’s guaranteed that he’ll see you again and that you want to see him again.
As you walk out of the ring, the crowd mutters among themselves to debate who won this duel.
“And who are you seeing that you’re making a fuss of how you look?” your mother speaks as she walks in on you picking at the braids in your hair to make them look a bit more decent. Her voice makes you turn around with a loud gasp before you smile and look down at the ground in slight embarrassment.
You bite your lower lip as she steps forward to you when you give a small shrug. “I decided to spend tonight’s feast with Bjorn Ironside,” you say, looking up at her with a small smile on your face. “He asked yesterday and I said yes.”
She smiles brightly, reaches up to run her finger over one of the braids in your hair, and chuckles to herself. You rarely bother to do so much with your hair. The last time you made so much fuss...well, it was when you had your eyes on a man. “You wouldn’t want to wear a dress tonight?”
Her words make you groan and roll your eyes as you duck under her arm to get away from her touch. “It’s not like that, mother. I just enjoy his company,” you mention, turning around to face her as you walk backward. “That’s it.” Your stubbornness makes her chuckle, but she holds her hands up in defeat, saying that she won’t say more.
“Who should I thank for making my daughter want to look like a princess tonight?” your father asks in a joking tone as he walks in.
You give him a stern look that makes him laugh and hold his arm out to allow you to leave, which you do quickly to avoid any more questions. Your father then looks up at your mother, both of them smiling because they both know very well what’s going on even if you don’t. “She likes him,” your mother speaks, making your father hum as he wraps his arms around her waist.
“Let’s just hope he’s not like the last one.”
The smile that grows on your face when you see Bjorn waiting in the spot he said he would be. There are people around that are celebrating in their own ways, drinking, laughing, or other activities. But it looks like Bjorn’s idea of spending the feast tonight with you is something a bit more relaxed. It will give you a chance to get to know him more and for him to ask you questions himself.
That was probably his plan from the beginning, you think to yourself.
Bjorn pushes himself off the tree when he spots you, his arms that were folded over his chest fall to his side and he gives a big smile as he walks forward to meet you before you reach his selected spot.
“I’m glad you came,” he says, reaching down for your hand and raising it so he can place a kiss on the back of your knuckles.
You bite your lip at the action and suppress a giggle from escaping. Bjorn thinks of you as a fierce warrior. A flustered giggle will ruin that and you don’t wish for that to happen. “I said I would join you and I’m not one to go back on my promise,” you chuckle, looking down at your hand when he doesn’t let go of it.
He smirks and gently pulls you toward the spot. “I didn’t take you for someone who does in any case,” he mentions.
Glancing around you, your mouth drops at what Bjorn has laid out. A blanket under a tree with bowls of food and a jug with two cups close by. There are no candles, but it’s bright enough with the moonlight shining down through the gaping hole in the canopy above that also shows a few stars. It’s amazing. “I would have thought you would have women lining up to be with you if you’re so romantic,” you joke, gently pulling your hand out of his as you sit down on the blanket.
“If they are, I haven’t noticed,” he says, dropping down to sit beside you and reaching for the jug of ale and the two cups. “You’re the first woman to have caught my eye since…” He pauses, thinks to himself if he wants to say what’s on the tip of his tongue or not. “Since I lost my wife.”
What’s the point in keeping it a secret? You were bound to find out one way or another whether it be one of his brothers mentioning it out or you hear it from someone else.
You blink at him in shock, not knowing which to focus on more; his compliment or the fact that he had a wife before but lost her. “I thought-” you stop. It would be distasteful to mention that you thought he didn’t have a wife. You can see the sadness on his face after he mentioned her. You don’t want to step over any boundaries.
“That I didn’t have a wife?” he asks, turning his head to look at you as he hands you the filled cup. “No. She left a long time ago.”
A lump grows in your throat and you roughly swallow past it as you watch Bjorn take a long sip from his cup. “What happened?” you softly ask, not knowing if it’s okay to ask that question.
“She…” His head drops between his shoulders as he breathes out a long sigh. “She was scarred across her face during a battle and was never the same since that. I didn’t know what to do to help her. She wouldn’t let me help her. I went with my father to Paris on a raid and when I came back, she was gone,” he explains, refusing to look at you and keeps his eyes on the cup of ale in his hands. “No one has seen or heard of her since.”
You can see he loved her. Truly loved her. And you can tell how broken his heart must have been when he came home to find her gone. It makes you reach out to place a hand over his, making his head turn up to look at you at last. “She meant a lot to you,” you whisper.
Bjorn turns his hand so he can lace his fingers with yours, locks his eyes with yours, and leans slightly closer. “She did. But not anymore.”
Catching his eyes flickering down to your lips, you breathe in a sharp breath that makes your lips part slightly. Your heart hammers in your chest and your skin goes hot. And when he presses his lips to yours, your mind explodes in an array of contradicting thoughts.
You want to kiss him back, you want to allow yourself to let go of your past. But it still scares you. Thinking about the past few days, you realize how close you’ve gotten to Bjorn, how your feelings have grown so for him and it scares you even more. What if you’re wrong about him just like you were wrong about…
Stopping yourself from thinking about that, you pull away from Bjorn, break the kiss and shake your head to yourself. “I can’t. I’m sorry,” you whisper, pulling your hands out from his and placing the cup to the side as you stand. “I should go.”
Bjorn doesn’t have a chance to say anything to stop you from leaving and he’s left alone in confusion. He has no idea what happened and doesn’t know if he did something wrong. All he knows is that he’s certain he heard a tone of fright in your voice.
pre-writing a fic is so hard for me... as soon as i finish a chapter i want to share it right away. i could go insane waiting to share this with you guys so here is an excerpt.
alone together chapter one
masterlist - coming December 14th
She taps him on the back when she joins him outside, “you’re covered in snow,” she laughs.
“Well, it is snowing,” he responds, instantly feeling embarrassed.
“Did you drive here?”
He shakes his head, “no, I was at work when she called me, my boss dropped me off, I was just going to get a taxi home.”
“I parked down the road, it was a nice walk up. I can bring you home?” She offers, reaching out for his hand and taking it.
“Thank you,” he holds her hand, walking with her down the snow-covered sidewalk.
The roads are empty, the sun has set, the only lights are the bright orange streetlights, with Christmas banners and wreaths. Lights are strung along all the buildings, the shops are all decorated and the light hum of Christmas music echoes through the streets.
“Do you like Christmas?” She asks.
“I’ve never been fond of it, no,” he shakes his head. “It’s hard to love Christmas when your mom doesn’t know what day of the year it is…”
“I can’t imagine,” she whispers. “I never really had a mom, I mean obviously if I was born I had one, but she died when I was 8. It’s just been me and my dad since then, I don’t remember her all that much.”
“You know my story,” he sighs, wishing it wasn’t his mother’s side of events that she heard first.
“No I don’t, I know Diana’s,” she rebuttals. “I may not catch serial killers for a living, but I know when someone is uncomfortable with the side of events being portrayed. I’m a history major.”
“There’s a lot she doesn’t know about, things that made what was already bad, a lot worse,” he keeps it short. Not knowing her enough to trauma dump on her. Not really wanting to, either.
“I’ve never met anyone without a traumatic childhood,” he presses her lips together in the same awkward smile he’s normally sporting. “I think we all go through horrible things to grow, as unfortunate as it is.
“I see a lot of horrible things every day, some of which makes me grateful for the extent of how awful my childhood was,” he opens up just enough. “I am lucky to still have a mother, at the end of the day I know a lot of kids didn’t get that.”
“It’s not healthy to compare—”
“I know,” he cuts her off. “But I can’t help it, I feel bad about feeling bad… like I’m supposed to be grateful but I’m nowhere near it sometimes.”
“That’s valid,” she nods along, “but you also never need to be, and that’s also okay. Being both grateful and upset at the treatment can happen, and it can be okay.”
“How long have you been in therapy?” He catches it.
“4 years,” she smiles again. “It’s working, isn’t it?”
He laughs, “I might need to go to your therapist.”
She squeezes his hand a bit tighter just before she drops it, “this is me,” she stops in front of a little silver car. “Where am I taking you?”
“Did you still want to get dinner first?” He brings it up in case she forgot.
“Absolutely,” she smiles again, something he’s never going to get tired of. “Get in.”
She unlocks the door, moves stuff off her passenger seat and watches him get in, all while he can’t stop smiling. “Sorry for the mess.”
“It’s okay,” he doesn’t mind in the slightest. “What did you want for dinner?”
“There’s a pub-style restaurant down the road that’s pretty good,” she offers with a shrug.
“Let’s go,” he agrees, putting on his seatbelt and letting the night take him where it may.
72 Hours before The Visit
- Quackity rows to a remote island, where he meets Awesamdude. Sam is confused at how Quackity knew about this place.
- Sam has been busy farming in a small patch of land to get away from things. He started not long ago.
- There’s a gravestone with a disc and a jukebox dedicated to Tommy.
- Quackity tells Sam that Tommy’s death wasn’t his fault. Sam disagrees, saying it was his responsibility.
- Sam shows Quackity his beach full of turtles and his horse
- Quackity tells Sam that he’s a very caring person. Sam shows Quackity his house.
- Quackity then tells Sam that he’s not the only one who thinks Tommy’s death wasn’t his fault, but Dream’s. To accept that is the only way to move on.
Sam: “I could’ve done something, Quackity. I could’ve...I don’t know. I could’ve done something.”
Quackity: “No, you know what you could’ve done? You could’ve gone back into that jail cell and put a sword right through his neck. That’s what you could’ve done, Sam. That’s what you could’ve done to Dream. Because guess what, Sam? this isn’t the first time he does it, and this isn’t the last time either. Sam, look at me...the only way he’s gonna stop this is if you get rid of him, Sam. That is the only way.”
- Quackity says they should do it right now. They go back into the house and Sam activates a secret door with a potato, leading down into a basement full of weapons and armor. They head out in boats as Quackity encourages Sam to do it.
Quackity: “Feel that fury in your fucking heart, Sam, and know that’s all because of Dream. Let’s go. Let’s go, Sam. It’s all because of Dream.”
Sam: “You’re right! I couldn’t do anything! Dream would’ve killed him anyways if I had gone in there, there’s nothing I could’ve done!”
Sam: “I can just kill him! I can just murder him! He can’t get away, he’s stuck in there, he has nothing! He’s so weak! This is the perfect chance! I can just murder -- no one would even need to know that he died! I can just say he was still locked up there, I could -- yes -- you’re right, and if I kill him no one will die! I don’t want any visitors already!”
Quackity: “Exactly! No visitors! No visitors, Sam! No visitors, no one’s allowed to see Dream ever again, it’s a secret between you and me, Sam...we’re not gonna tell anyone. As far as we’re aware, Dream is in that prison, and no one’s allowed to visit him ever again because he committed that crime against Tommy. Guess what? no one’s even gonna wanna see him, Sam, nobody! Because he killed Tommy, and everyone’s scared of him. But guess what? You and me, we’re not gonna be scared, Sam, because we know Dream is going to be fucking gone.”
Sam: “‘Cause he’s stuck in that cell anyway! There’s nothing he can do! We could kill him, and when he’s a ghost, I could go in and kill him again! And kill him again! And kill him again! And kill him again! And I can kill him a thousand times for the one death he gave Tommy!”
“Do you wanna come with me? You wanna help me do it? You can hold him down, and I'll chop his head off! We can kill him just like that, and there’s nothing he can do! Yes! He can just cry, and scream, and he’ll die -- I wonder if he’ll laugh now!”
- They reach the prison entrance and enter the portal. Quackity tells Sam that this is all for Tommy, and it’ll make him feel better.
- Before they can go through the defenses, though, Sam hesitates and starts having doubts.
Sam: “Quackity, we can’t kill him! That’s the whole reason we put him in here to begin with! Tommy trusted me to keep Dream in here! And now Tommy’s -- Tommy’s dead, I can’t do this to Tommy! Tommy trusted me, and he might’ve died, but that doesn’t mean we can let this happen! No, no! Tommy would want us to keep him locked up! The whole reason we locked him up was -- if someone else dies, Dream’s the only one who can do anything about it!”
“I can’t ruin what I promised to Tommy more than once.”
- Quackity says this is his chance at redemption, but Sam insists they can’t kill him. Quackity stops and then says he’s sorry he got ahead of himself. Quackity goes to leave, but then hesitates and goes back to Sam one last time.
- One way or another, someone will have to do it. If not Sam, Quackity. He reminds Sam that Tommy’s death wasn’t his fault.
Quackity: “Sam, before I leave...you gotta get it together. Las Nevadas will have no place for emotions, or for any personal ideas that you may have, or feelings, Sam. If you’re gonna be my business partner, you gotta do more than this. Understand?”
“I’ll talk to you soon, Sam.”
- Quackity leaves.
-
48 hours before The Visit.
-
- Quackity is speaking with someone. He thanks someone for giving him the spot, telling them that they can’t tell anyone about it.
- Quackity is near Fundy’s house. He digs straight down into the ground, landing in an underground area made of nether brick. It’s an extensive series of hallways. Quackity has a bunch of TNT.
- He finds the Egg Room and starts putting TNT around the Egg.
- He notices Bad and Punz approach and backs into the area behind, brandishing a redstone torch. Bad warns him not to do it.
- Quackity tells Bad that he doesn’t need the Egg, he knows that there’s still a part of Bad that isn’t doing this, and that they can work together.
- Bad replies that if Quackity gets in the way of his mission, he won’t have anything.
- Rat starts barking. Quackity says he’s doing this for Bad.
Punz: “Bad, don’t let this guy manipulate you.”
- Quackity shouts that he’s going to light it up and places more.
Quackity: “We’re all gonna go. I’m doing this for your own, Bad! I’m doing this for your own good!”
Bad: “You’re doing this for yourself, Quackity! I need this! I need the Egg!”
- Quackity gets Bad to order Punz away and keeps negotiating with Bad. He tells Bad that before the Egg, Bad was one of his closest friends, and in order for them to do great things together, Bad has to let go of the Egg.
Quackity sets off the TNT. The explosions go off, and the Egg turns to obsidian.
---
On one heart, someone slowly makes their way through the burning remains of the nether brick area, holding a single redstone torch as the Egg whispers.
HOW DARE YOU TRY AND TAKE THIS ONE FROM ME.
YOU WILL SUFFER FOR THIS.
HOW DARE YOU TRY AND TAKE THIS ONE FROM ME.
They stumble down the hall and the screen goes black.
-
24 hours before The Visit.
-
Quackity rides Boner down the Pogtopia highway.
He pauses at Tommy’s summer home, looking at the prison, and rides down.
- He notices George standing at the entrance, looking towards the portal. The two have a happy reunion. Quackity asks him why he’s here -- George says he’s just chilling.
- Quackity hasn’t seen George in ages. George is surprised by the scar on Quackity’s eye.
- He shows George Boner, who he has renamed to Ossium.
- He asks what George has been up to. It’s been ages since he’s seen George, Karl or Sapnap.
- Quackity tells George that he’s taken a break from El Rapids and has been working on a new project called Las Nevadas, a country full of casinos. An entertainment haven. He wants to set up a meeting with George, Karl and Sapnap about getting them all casinos.
- George asks, what about Kinoko Kingdom? Quackity doesn’t know what that is. George tells him, and says that Karl said he told Quackity about it.
- Quackity wasn’t told anything about this. He asks how long ago. It’s been a while.
- Quackity thought they had El Rapids going. It’s been hard to get in contact with them. George says he can still join.
Quackity: “I was working on this project, and I wanted to p-- no, no no, you’re...that makes sense. That explains so many things.”
- George tells him the direction that Kinoko is in. Quackity asks if they aren’t a part of El Rapids anymore. George says he supposes they can’t be in two countries at once.
- Quackity asks George not to tell anything to anybody about Las Nevadas. It will open soon, but he wants all the details to remain between them. As far as George knows, it’s just a country with entertainment.
- He says goodbye and leaves, telling George to say hi to Karl and Sapnap for him.
---
There’s a shot of Eret’s tower.
The Socializing Club and Purpled’s Walmart.
The old remodeled Community House.
The cobblestone version of Tommy’s house with the spruce trees around his land.
Skeppy’s original blackstone house with the three-door entrance.
Ze Haus.
The Spawn trap.
The camera pans up to a view of L’manburg, with blackstone walls, and the rebuilt Camarvan made of dirt.
The Elton John House and Space Program within the walls.
King’s Court.
It’s the Election Debate, Quackity and George arguing with Wilbur and Tommy.
---
- Quackity is out on a walk with Wilbur. He wants to know more about Wilbur. He asks why Wilbur has done the things he does.
- Wilbur tells him he wants protection for his people. Quackity asks to talk to Wilbur off the books. He wants to talk to Wilbur not as politicians, but people.
Wilbur: “Um, I mean I appreciate it -- No. The election’s in twelve days.”
- Quackity insists, and Wilbur says he’ll try.
- Quackity says he appreciates the Wilbur is trying to protect his people, and he doesn’t aim to overthrow him.
Quackity: “None of this is about fighting to me. I think there’s just a big difference between you and me, and I like to see the good side on people. I like to think that there’s a side of everyone that is willing to work for wanting to see a better future for everyone, and I think that’s where you and I are very, very different.”
“See, when I got here, when I got to these lands, and I wanted to join L’manburg, I was told I couldn’t. I was told to walk away because I wasn’t allowed to join L’manburg. And to me, that was a lack of belonging. And if I have to become President and tear down some walls in order for no one to ever feel unwelcome again, then so be it. I do believe that everyone has a good side to them, and I do believe that everyone has something to contribute to the nation.”
Wilbur: “Your aspirations of optimism are not going to be subject to my nation’s security, I’m afraid. I -- I completely disagree with everything you said...”
“You say everyone has a good side, Quackity -- and you’re right. You’re right. Everyone has a good side. But that good side is only there to help themselves. If you’re really gonna help people, you’re gonna need power, Quackity. You can make a movement, you can make a resistance, right, you can go out and you can come back, and they’ll give you a ticket-tape parade. They’ll cheer for you in the streets, but you will change nothing. If you have a revolution, everyone will hate you. You will sacrifice everything, and you will lose everything you ever had, but you will come back and everything will be changed. And Quackity, if you wanna change things, you’re gonna need power. That’s what you really want, isn’t it. Look at me..”
“And power isn’t gained from diplomacy, and bureaucracy, and giant courthouses suspended in the sky, blah blah blah -- it’s gained from swords, Quackity. It’s gained from blades. It’s gained from steel. Iron. Even if everyone has this good side that you’re talking about, then anyone who wants to prove it has to show their dark side first. You’re going to have to kill. You’re going to have to torture. You’re going to have to maim. When I look at you, as a fellow outsider...you’re not ready for that.”
“I’m leaving.”
- There’s a montage:
Quackity watching as Schlatt destroys the White House the day he left to join Pogtopia.
The Mexican L’manburg Revolution, Quackity facing Dream outside Church Prime.
Dream destroying Mexican L’manburg.
Quackity facing Technoblade in the Final Control Room.
Dream and Quackity outside of Church Prime again.
“I understand that you -- that you wish to cause problems on the SMP, and that’s your number one goal. You are, by far -- you are the biggest enemy on the SMP right now.”
---
Present Day.
---
He’s at Wilbur’s resurrection shrine. There is a chest marked “For Wilbur.”
- Quackity writes in a book.
“My dearest friend, Wilbur...
You were right all along...
And I won’t make the same mistakes twice.”
- He signs the book “PROJECT NEVADAS” and puts it in the chest.
- Quackity rides off on Ossium and dons the black hood as the sirens sound.
---
- Bad sees the sign about concrete that Ranboo left at his house and assumes that it must be some sort of cryptic scavenger hunt. He and Skeppy go to try and figure it out by reading out the other signs throughout the server
- Skeppy eats part of Jonald
- Karl builds a Party Island in Kinoko Kingdom with Pokimane
- Ranboo gets a wither named Logan to mine for him
- Eret works on their fortress
- Captain Puffy does a late night stream and does some mining
Type: Kaz Brekker x reader.
Fandom: Six of Crows.
Summary: Kaz has this fear with human touch, he can’t even imagine himself getting too close to someone. So, that’s when he met her. She’s a girl from his gang , a girl that he fell in love with. He couldn’t keep the fact that even when he’s trying to push her, even when he’s trying to be rude with her she keep trying to make things for him. With a normal person he’d already punished but with her... He didn’t know why he couldn’t with her.
Warning: My first angst, how exciting. Angst and mentions of trauma.
Authors note: This plot isn’t mine, a friend of mine gave me this idea @scriptonite. If it wasn’t for her I’d be doomed. I hope you guys enjoy it.
AAAAAAAAAA I’m so sorry for the bad ending but is on my drafts for weeks now.
The first time they met was normal, he didn’t feel a thing and she was just one more that would join his team. She was talented, actually really talented. A heartrender, that’s actually what type of Grisha she is, someone to help Nina and give some advantage for Kaz.
Another trait everyone could notice was her kindness, even the way she spoke was different. But that’s not a point, for now, the point is, after a couple of days Kaz caught himself looking too much at her. He noticed her a lot, it looked like he couldn’t take his eyes from her.
He was in his office when Jesper entered the room with some papers in hand and Y/N behind him. She just stood there, waiting for Jesper to finish what he was telling Kaz. It was just about missions, the amount of information they got spying the merchants, and some other stuff.
When Jesper left Y/N came closer to Kaz’s desk, with hands intertwined at the back of her body. She took a step closer but Kaz gave her a look that made her stop where she was.
“Sorry, I just have to ask you if you want to come with us. We’re going to a bar and I don’t know if you like those things but me, Wylan, Jesper, Nina, and Inej are coming.” She asked nicely but not scared or even intimidated.
“I have something to do, I believe this isn’t going to be possible but maybe the next time.” Yet his tone was a little more professional.
The people who’d go with her were his friends but it didn’t matter, he couldn’t hang out with her, see her outside of the workspace would be the end of him. So, it was better for him to keep himself away from her for a bit.
But he wasn’t lying, he didn’t have to, if he really didn’t want to go he’d just say that. He had things to resolve and people to see.
The other day was calmer, he didn’t really say much but that didn't stop Y/N from trying to talk to him... Again. So she went to his office, picked up some coffee, knocked on the door, and entered the room. He just looked at you of his desk, documents strewn around it, and he was studying it.
"I'm sorry, I thought you would like some coffee. Jesper told me you didn’t get much sleep." You didn't move; instead, you stood by the room's entrance, not scared, but concerned that you had arrived at an inopportune time.
Kaz, in a normal situation, would brush it off, would just tell her to leave because he was working on something. But, like I said, in a normal situation. Kaz didn't smile at all, just let out a huff telling her to come in. You handled the cup for him and when he his hands met yours accidentally...
He was thinking so much, he could feel your fingers slightly intertwined with his, not with this intention but in the end it was. He caught himself thinking about the sensation of your hands over his, the warmth, the softness but then the flesh, the skin, the contact and that made him move away abruptly, with his breath disorganized but trying to stay calm. He was trembling but not too much for you to notice.
"Hm... I'm sorry, I'm going to leave." Y/N closed the door behind her leaving Kaz just with his thoughts.
That was the other day, now Kaz was in the fifth Harbor just watching the sea, the sky and whatever comes to his sight when Y/N appeared. She was quiet at first, didn’t want to disturb him or anything, just stayed by his side watching the waves and enjoying the silence.
“Have you ever thought about what are you going to do when you get to pay your contract.” For your surprise Kaz was the first one to say something.
You thought for a moment and when Kaz was almost thinking you wouldn’t answer you responded. “I don’t know, maybe then I’ll try to find my family, or just...” She sighed. “Get out of here, train with the other grishas in Ravka. I haven’t thought much about what’s next. God, I don’t even know what’s next.”
Kaz seemed to be digesting your answer, trying to find ways to be part of it and he didn’t know why. Since you joined the crew, he's been looking closely at you, eager to see you and spend some time with you alone. Actually, he wasn't that stupid; he knew exactly why, but he didn't want to believe it because if it was true, it wouldn't be fair to you.
He wouldn't answer if she did him the same question, instead he would just focus on the waves and be silent for the remainder of their time together, but she didn't bother to ask. I wouldn't say this intrigued him, but it did make him wonder why she didn't ask, why she wasn't as curious about him as he was with her.
Kaz and Y/N sat there for a long time, even as night fell. They just stood there and watched as the waves broke and the sea created new ones, over and over again. The sounds, the sensation. They returned to the Crow Club together, without saying a word at each other.
The next time I’m going to tell you about these two happened the day before a important mission they’d have. Y/N was laying on the roof, watching as the stars shine in the sky. A shooting star and she made a wish, a silly one, but it was made and the destiny would tell her about it later.
Kaz joined her minutes after, he looked exhausted but in the Brekker’s way, he wasn’t the type to show emotions no matter what it is. He laid next to her, not knowing why he was there or why he wanted to see her in this intimate moment of her.
“You know, I come here sometimes and, I don’t know, imagine what my life would be if I’d never left my country.” She didn’t look at him but he did. The moment she said it he turned his gaze to her. “Why are you here?” Her gaze finally met his.
“I don’t know, I wanted to know if you were dead or something and found out you were here, so...” He stopped for a moment, a moment to think about what he was going to say but just stayed quiet.
“No, I’m talking about Ketterdam. Why are you here in Ketterdam?” Her tone was low, she was thinking about doing this question for a long time and as the words came out his mouth she wasn’t sure if she did the right thing.
“Just another unlucky kid, like everyone in Ketterdam.” He didn’t want to talk about his past.
She was quiet for long minutes. “I see...”
Then, again, they just looked at the stars together, without any other things to say. When they finally headed out they both were tired and needed some time to rest, tomorrow would be a tough day.
Weeks prior to the event, the plans were all in place, and now everyone was doing their roles. Y/N was on the roof with Inej, both of them watching what was going on from afar in case they needed to intervene, because they needed to locate the Rollins guys who were hiding. However, things did not go as planned. Kaz thought he had it under control, but he didn't, and Pekka was a step ahead when it all went wrong.
A shoot after Pekka left and Inej screamed, Nina went to help her but when Kaz went to see what was wrong he saw a badly injured Y/N laid on the floor. She was bleeding, the bullet hit her stomach. Nina wanted to heal her, but she wasn't very good at it; she was good at manipulating people's hearts, but not when there was a bullet in her body.
“Please, Y/N, don’t close your eyes. You can’t close your eyes, are you listening to me?” Kaz was terrified, he never thought about losing her.
“Kaz, there’s nothing we can do now.” Y/N voice was almost nothing.
“Shut up, Y/N, we are going to find a way. You’re not going to die.” Now was Nina who said something.
Kaz took Y/N’s hand and looked deeply into her eyes. “Just stay awake, please, you can’t close your eyes, just keep them open and everything will be fine. I promise to you that I’ll help you with everything you want, just keep them opened.”
However, Y/N did not last much longer. They tried everything on her, but she wasn't able to talk properly at the moment. Kaz's expression changed from concern and desperation to cold and emotionless when he noticed she had died. He didn't want anyone to know how he felt, but he vowed, promised to everyone who would listen, that he would kill the person who had done it to her, and now he had even more reasons to kill Pekka Rollins.
I’m Looking Forward Now 💖Thank you and good bye
So, it’s been a little over a week since Steven Universe Future ended…
I’ve been hesitant to write this, honestly, but I’m tired of holding myself back from properly expressing myself in fear of appearing overly invested in the media I consume, even in private. Writing helps me organize my thoughts and feelings, and I feel like these thoughts in particular may resonate with many, so I want to share them. I want to talk about what Steven Universe has done for me personally, both as an artist, and as a person.
I’ve been around since the day the first episode of the original series aired. I actually remember when Steven Universe was just a logo on Wikipedia’s “List of Upcoming Cartoon Network Shows” list, back when I was a freshman in high school. It piqued my interest, but when commercials finally dropped for it, I thought it was going to be bad because of the way marketing handled introducing Steven as a likeable character. There was still something about it that made me want to give it a chance though, so I went online and watched the pilot before the first episode's release. I was hooked immediately. I knew I was going to love it, and I did. I fell so absolutely in love with Steven as a character, and the world that he and the gems lived in. I became obsessed. I was always so excited for new episodes to come out. Little did I know what else it would do for me as I went through my adolescence alongside it.
As the show progressed, it was evident that what I wanted out of a western animated childrens’ cartoon was finally coming into fruition: this show was becoming serialized. There was continuity, there was plot, there was character development-- it was getting deep. It was pushing the groundwork that Adventure Time laid out even further (thank you, Adventure Time).
I will give credit where credit is due: earlier western childrens’ cartoons I grew up with like Hey Arnold, and Rugrats, among others, also touched on heavy topics, but Steven Universe was able to take similar ideas (and even more complex ones, concerning mental health and relationships) and expand on them outside of contained episodes and/or short arcs. These themes, which were a part of the show’s overarching story, spanned across its entirety. Continuity was rampant.
What did this mean? It meant kids cartoons didn’t have to be silly and fun all the time and characters weren’t just actors playing a part in 11-minute skits. Steven and the gems would remember things that happened to them, and it affected them and how they would function and play a part in their story. This was a huge deal to me as a teenager. I always wanted the cartoons I grew up with featuring kid characters to feel more. In my own work, I often felt discouraged when combining a fun, cutesy western art style with themes as dark or layered as anime would cover. I always thought it had to be one or the other because an audience wouldn’t take a combination of the two seriously enough, based on discussions I had with classmates, friends, and online analysis I read at the time. Steven Universe proved to me otherwise. This show was opening the door for future cartoons exploring in-depth, adult concepts. I felt so seen as a kid, and was inspired to stick with what I love doing.
I was actually very worried about the show’s survival. It was in fact immensely underrated and the fandom was miniscule. Then in 2014, JailBreak dropped, and it’s popularity exploded. Part of it was because of the complex plot and the themes it was covering like I mentioned, but also because of its representation.
I remember when fandom theorized that Garnet was a fusion due to grand, tragic reasons. Turns out, she’s simply a metaphor for a very loving w|w relationship. This was huge. I cannot stress how important it is that we continue to normalize healthy canon queer relationships in childens’ media, and Steven Universe finally was the first to do that proper. Introducing these themes offers the chance for a kid to sit there and ask themselves, “Why is this demonized by so many people?” I asked myself exactly that. Ruby and Sapphire were my cartoon LGBT rep. They were the first LGBT couple I ever ecstatically drew fanart of. I was dealing with a lot of internalized homophobia at the time, and they showed me that I was allowed to love women and feel normal about it. The process of overcoming this was a long one, but they played a part in my very first steps into becoming comfortable with my sexuality. I could go on and on about it’s representation in general-- how it breaks the mold when it comes to showcasing a diverse set of characters in design, in casting, and in breaking gender roles. It’s focus on love and empathy. Steven himself is a big boy, but he's the protagonist, and the show never once makes fun of his weight, or any other bigger characters for that matter. It wasn’t hard to see why the fandom had grown so large.
Fandom was always a joy for me. It was a hobby I picked up when I was in middle school, like many of us here did. I would always cater my experience to fun, and fun only. I only started getting more deeply involved in SU’s fandom when I had just turned into an adult. During the summer of 2016, between my first and second year of college, I drew for the show almost every day non-stop when the Summer of Steven event was going on and posted them online. This was a form of practice for me in order to become not just more comfortable with experimenting with my art, but also to meet new artists, make new friends, and learn to interact with strangers without fear. I dealt with a ton of anxiety when I was in high school. When I was a senior applying to art school for animation, I decided I was going to overcome that anxiety. I made plans to take baby steps to improve myself over the course of my 4 years of college. Joining the fandom, while unforeseen, was definitely a part of that process. I started feeling more confident in sharing my ideas, even if they were fan-made. I fell in love with storyboarding after that summer, when I took my first storyboarding class, and genuinely felt like I was actually getting somewhere with all of this. I remember finally coming to a point in my classes where I could pitch and not feel hopelessly insecure about it. I was opening up more to my friends and peers.
But this process, unfortunately, came to a screeching halt.
My life completely, utterly crumbled under me in the Fall of 2017 due to a series of blows in my personal life that happened in the span of just a couple weeks. My mental health and sense of identity were completely destroyed. All of that confidence I had worked for-- completely ruined. I was alone. I nearly died. My stay at college was extended to 4 and half years, instead of the 4 I had intended. I lost my love for animation-- making it, and watching it. I could no longer watch Steven Universe with the same love I had for it beforehand. It’s a terrible thing, trying to give your attention to something you don’t love anymore, and wanting so desperately to love again. I dropped so many things I loved in my life, including the fandom.
Healing was a long and complicated road. I continued to watch the show all the way up until Change Your Mind aired in the beginning of 2019, and while I still felt empty, that was definitely a turning point for me with it’s encapsulation of self-love. I was hoping James Baxter would get to work on Steven Universe since he guest-animated on Adventure Time, and it was incredible seeing that wish actually come true. The movie came out and while I enjoyed it and thought highly of it, I was still having issues letting myself genuinely love things again, old and new. It was especially difficult because cartoons were my solace as a kid, when things got rough at home. I remember feeling sad because the show ended, and not getting the chance to love it again like I used to while it was still going.
By the time Steven Universe Future was announced, I was finally coming around. I was genuinely starting to feel excitement for art and animation again. I wasn’t expecting there to be a whole new epilogue series, but happily ever after, there we were! Prickly Pear aired, and the implications it left in terms of where the story was going did it. I was finally ready to let myself take the dive back into fandom in January of this year. My art blew up, something I wasn’t expecting considering my 2-year hiatus. Following this, I was invited into a discord server containing some of the biggest writers, artists, editors, and analysts in the fandom. I had no idea there were so many talented people in the fandom, some already with degrees, some getting their degrees-- creating stuff for it on the side just for fun. The amount of passion and productivity level here is insane, and so is the amount of discussion that has come out of it.
I didn’t realize it at first, but it was actually helping me gain back the courage to share ideas. I lost my confidence in pitching while I was taking the time to heal, and graduating meant there would no longer be a classroom setting I could practice in. This group helped immensely.
I have made so many friends through this wonderful series, and I have so many fond memories talking to like-minded creatives, getting feedback and a myriad of sources for inspiration, as well as all of the memes and jokes and weekly theorizations that came about as we all waited on the edges of our seats for episodes to air. I needed this so badly, I needed to get back in touch with my roots, when I would go absolutely hog-wild over a cartoon I loved with people who loved it as much I did. Future has been a blessing for me in this way. I graduated feeling like I was back at square-one, but now I feel like I’m on my way again.
It’s 2020 and while I’m doing great right now, I am honestly still recovering from the total exhaustion that followed after graduating a few months ago, and finally leaving the campus where my life fell apart behind. Needless to say, watching Future was like looking into a mirror. Watching one of my favorite characters of all time-- one that grew up with me-- go through so many of the same things I went through not too long ago was absolutely insane to watch unfold. It’s such an important thing too, to show a character go through the process of breaking down over trauma and all the nasty things that come with it, and to have them go on the road to healing. Steven got that therapy. He wasn’t blamed. The gems were called out. The finale was everything I could have ever hoped for. The catharsis I experienced watching it was out of this world.
As I continue my own healing journey, I will always look up to the storyboard artists, revisionists, and designers that I have been following over these past 7 years, as well as the new ones introduced in Future. It's been such a joy watching these artists release their promo art for episodes, talk about their experiences working on the show, and post the work they've done for it alongside episodes airing.
Thank you Rebecca Sugar, the Crewniverse, and the fans, for making this such a truly wonderful and unique experience. Thank you for reminding me that I am, and always will be, an artist, a cartoonist, and a fan. Thank you, my followers, for the overwhelmingly positive response to my artwork. I have had so much fun interacting and discussing the show with you all again over these past few months. Steven Universe and it’s fandom will always have a special place in my heart, and it will always be a classic that I will return to for comfort and inspiration for decades to come. I am sad that the cartoon renaissance is over, but so many doors have been opened thanks to this show. I am so, so excited to see what this show will inspire in the future, and I hope one day I get the opportunity to be a part of that.
Goodbye Steven, thank you for everything. I wish you healing, and I wish Rebecca and the team a well-deserved rest. ♥️
Miss Americana (Part 3)
Summary: The reader recovers from her second dose of Compound V and explores her stronger abilities with Dean. But the events of a fun night out might give Miss Americana and Soldier Boy an unlikely ally...
Masterlist
Pairing: Soldier Boy!Dean x reader
Word Count: 1,900ish
Warnings: language, implied past torture/assault/killings
A/N: Enjoy this final part! This contains very minor spoilers for The Boys...
______
“Let me hide this stuff and I’ll be back in five, okay?” he asked. You nodded, Dean cupping your cheek before he was gone. It was barely a minute before he was returning, wearing sweats and a henley, a box under his arm. “Brownies from the bakery down the block.”
“I thought you liked pie.”
“I do. But you like brownies,” he said. “Something to look forward to after you spend the night shaking and sweating.”
“Lovely,” you said. He sat down beside you, urging you to lean into him. He tucked a blanket over your legs, watching the fire crackle. “I don’t think I mind if you’re a monster.”
“I can be pretty horrible.”
“You’re not horrible to me. You’ve never been that way. Even if your first instinct was to try to manipulate me you decided not to.”
“I hate most people. Think they’re worthless. Only care about myself.”
“So? I told you when we met...I’m the nice bad guy. I frankly don’t give a fuck anymore about being the pushover, the one that gets hurt. I just want to never be afraid again.”
“We never have to be afraid after tonight. Never,” he said. “You’ll be stronger than Homelander. Stronger than me. You’ll be safe.”
“For a bad guy, you were awfully nice giving me that dose with no strings attached.”
“There’s no strings,” he said. He stroked your arm when you shivered.
“Partners?” you asked. He leaned down, kissing you more gently than he ever had. No need behind it.
“I like partners,” he said. He was warm as you started to feel cool, Dean drawing shapes on your bare skin. “I had a little brother.”
“I didn’t know that.”
“He got sick right after I shipped out. Died the morning I got my first dose of Compound V. Only reason I volunteered for the shot. They said volunteers got special benefits. I wanted my brother to get to a good hospital and proper care and he was already dead by the time I got my shot. Then uh, then some of us started dying cause they didn’t know dosages or shit. I thought at least Sam’s gonna be okay. Then I spent three days wishing it would kill me so I could be with him instead of having been away for the last year of his life. But I didn’t die. I was the only one. Then they gave me more and...I guess I enjoyed becoming the super soldier over grieving. Then it goes to your head and changes you and...Sammy wouldn’t even recognize me now. At least I know I’m not going to the same place he wound up so he won’t have to see.”
“What was that like, being honest just now,” you asked, goosebumps covering your skin. You bundled into him more, Dean pulling up the blanket.
“I miss Sammy. I haven’t thought about him in years. I hope the kid’s happy wherever he is.”
“Maybe you’ll see him again someday,” you said. You shook, sweat forming all over you, muscles aching. You turned, unable to get comfortable. “How long does this last?”
“About six hours. Then I passed out and when I woke up it was over.”
“Awesome.” You gripped the blanket tight, Dean massaging your tense shoulders. “Tell me more about Sammy. Please.”
“He absolutely hated being called Samuel,” said Dean with a chuckle. “So naturally I did it all the time when we were kids.”
“Keep going,” you said, stomach churning briefly. “Distract me.”
“Let me tell you about the time we jumped off the shed roof.”
You were in sweaty clothes when you woke, lifting your head off Dean’s chest to find him passed out and snoring lightly. You sat up, shaking out your head. Something was different. You stood, deciding to test out flying first. You yelped when you nearly hit the ceiling, freezing and plopping straight down onto the couch and Dean.
He groaned awake, peeling open his eyes to find you hovering above him.
“Sweetheart I’m all for a little rough in the bedroom but not a full body tackle awake,” he said. You moved to the side, the motion second nature quickly but it required much less effort than before. You looked around, nothing in the room heavy enough to test your strength. Dean sat up, smirking as he looked at you. “Wanna arm wrestle?”
“Yes!” you said, Dean chuckling, groggily taking a seat at the counter. You stood on the other side of the island, Dean clasping your hand.
“Let’s go,” he said. You squeezed, Dean keeping up with you for a good few seconds before he started to go down fast. You heard the counter creek and then it was breaking, Dean backing up.
“Uh,” you said.
“Don’t worry about it. What do you expect when you got supes in the place? But you, you’re stronger. Stronger than me,” he said. “How do you feel?”
“Good. Very good. I um, I’d like to go fly. I think I might be faster.”
“Go for it. I’ll call someone to get this fixed. Just be careful. Try not to fly into any planes.”
“I’ll do my best, Soldier Boy.”
“Again?” asked Dean that night. You flew up high and smiled, Dean letting go of you, free falling a few seconds before you dove down and caught him. He giggled and you flew higher, Dean jumping off. You could heard him laughing and went down, something hitting you on the way. You threw a punch and arms released you, Dean holding on tight when you finally caught up with him. You both looked up and glared, a cape and pair of red eyes looking down. “You do realize the fall won’t kill me.”
“Probably not. But it’d be fun to try,” said Homelander. He floated down to your level, your arm tight around Dean’s waist. “Oh relax. I won’t touch your boy toy again.”
“I thought I said to stay the fuck away from us,” you growled.
“I just thought you’d like to know that Soldier Boy’s internal file will be released to the major news outlets tomorrow. Did you know-”
You grabbed his neck with your free hand, squeezing hard, Homelander pawing at your wrist.
“Any good reasons why I shouldn’t kill him?” you asked Dean.
“None come to mind,” said Dean, Homelander’s eyes red but fading as he choked for air.
“Feel free to speak up,” you said, gripping his neck even tighter.
“Stop,” said a voice, the three of you turning towards a small drone hovering close by. “Let him go.”
“He tried to kill Soldier Boy,” you said, holding on tight. You didn’t even see the drone shoot out the darts, the three of you hit. You instantly dropped Homelander, flying down to the roof of Vought as soon as you could, Dean out cold already and you quickly joining him.
You woke up on the couch in Edgar’s office, no sign of Dean or Homelander. Everything felt off still as you sat up, Mr. Edgar suddenly sitting on the edge of the coffee table.
“Are you alright?”
“No,” you groaned, stretching out. “What the hell was that?”
“If you’re going to act like children, we’ll treat you like them.”
“Dean and I were having fun, minding our own business-”
“Dean and you stole Compound V for your own benefit. I thought you were going to be more understanding of this arrangement.”
“I have to be stronger than Homelander and now I am. We didn’t hurt anybody to get it. You people let him do whatever the fuck he wanted so get off your high horse.”
“We understand. But you can’t kill him.”
“Why the fuck not.”
“He brings value in, even not as part of the Seven. Miss Americana and Soldier Boy can take over the leadership roles and Homelander is to be left alone.”
“He wants to kill-”
“I said to leave it be.” You stood, glaring down at him. “If an incident like this occurs again, there will be consequences. Dismissed.”
“Gonna throw us back in a hole? That’s kinda your thing isn’t it.”
“We know how to deal with problem children, even supe ones,” he said, standing up. “Back off before all three of you are worth more dead than alive. Don’t make me dismiss you again.”
You stormed out, slamming the door after you, not bothering to look back when you heard the wood splinter. You went straight to Dean’s apartment, Dean unscathed inside. But Homelander standing there, neither of them actively trying to kill the other, that was more than enough to forget your anger for the moment.
“You okay?” asked Dean, stepping over to grab your hand. You hummed, looking Homelander up and down. “You got the same message we did I’m guessing.”
“Behave or we’re all fucked. Yeah. Why the hell is he here?”
“We were spoken to at the same time. While he’s still a psycho and has some major fucked up issues, he has a different idea,” said Dean.
“Said the mass murderer.” Homelander rolled his eyes. “We all want to be in charge of the Seven. Be the best.”
“You shoved your hand down my pants,” you growled.
“True. But enemies can work together when they have a larger, common enemy, hm?”
“Edgar,” said Dean. “He wants to wipe out Edgar. Ashley is the next logical choice and we can control her. She wouldn’t do jack shit to us.”
“Remove Edgar from the equation and we can all get along. Maybe form a little, trio, best of the best. Still part of the Seven but top dogs. Vought would eat that shit up. Behind the scenes you two fuck or whatever it is you do. Publicly, we’re the strongest go America team there ever was. The soldier from a simpler time, the soldier who fought the terrorists and defend her country, and the everyday man who protects his fellow citizens. All walks of life, all the basis covered. Between the three of us our numbers are sky high in every single demographic.”
“What’s to stop us from killing each other after Edgar is out of the picture,” you said.
“You’re strong enough to kill me. But your little boyfriend can’t fly. You come after me, I’ll drop him in the ocean. Leave me alone, I leave you two alone and we all win,” said Homelander. “Deal?”
“What do you think?” you asked Dean.
“Lesser of two evils. I think,” said Dean. “I say we give it a chance to see if we can get Edgar out.”
“Fine. We can discuss this more tomorrow. Oh and Homelander. I ever catch you in my or Dean’s apartment again, I’ll snap your neck. Deal or no deal.”
“If you were only a little more twisted we could have had something,” he said. He nodded and left, Dean letting out a deep breath when he was gone.
“Y/N,” said Dean. You hummed, wrapping your arms around him. “Thanks. For catching me earlier.”
“I’m sure you would have been fine.”
“Probably but I don’t want to test that theory out. If he dropped me in the ocean...I still need to breathe. We have to play nice.”
“We will. Until we don’t have to,” you said. He smirked, kissing your lips. “He tried to kill you. Now I hate him even more. As soon as we can, he’s gone.”
“That’s my girl,” he grinned.
“Yes I am and you, you’re my Soldier Boy. We’re going to own this place, very, very soon.”
“Damn straight we are sweetheart. Just a little bit longer and then we can do whatever we want to. Promise.”
Under the Cover of War: FO!Poe Dameron x Resistance!Reader
Pairing: FO!Poe Dameron x Resistance!Reader
Word Count: 2.4k
Summary: “‘Let’s go,’ he murmurs. ‘Let’s run.’ His gaze is fixed on you, begging for this. He needs you—he needs you to be there for him so that he has a place in the galaxy, a place he would never have otherwise. ‘Please.’”
Following the destruction of the Hosnian System, a promise and a dire decision are made by you and Poe.
Warnings: Language
“Why?”
The single word is clipped, volatile, dangerously soft in nature. It’s a question, a plead, an accusation, all at once. It seems to scream in the silence, to imply a million other queries that Poe doesn’t want to answer.
He simply remains quiet as he stares at your back turned to him. You sit on the edge of the bed, breath shaking, refusing to even look at him.
He inhales, blinking rapidly. “Sweetheart—“
“Why?” This time, it’s a scream. The sound is ragged, painful, your voice cracking. It makes him flinch, makes him draw into himself.
The loud cry echoes, disintegrates as the seconds pass.
He wishes he could transport himself back to five minutes ago, before either of your holos had rung. Before the First Order had reported a victory to him, before the Resistance had reported a devastating, unfathomable loss to you.
He wants to return to when he’d laid beside you, running his fingers down your sides, when the memory of pressing you into the sheets was still fresh in his mind.
But somehow he knows that whatever the two of you have will never return in any way.
“How could you?” you whisper, the shock of five of the galaxy’s most populous planets being obliterated in mere minutes still in the process of shattering you to pieces.
Poe wants to shrink into the air, disappear in moments. He knows you’re crying, that you can’t handle it. He’d be lying if he said he himself was handling it at all.
“I…I don’t know what happened.” He stares at the sheets, tears running down his own face. He can’t imagine it. The deaths of tens of trillions. Their screams, the pain they must have felt in the blinding light of imminent death.
Your hands tighten into fists as you shake. Your form is locked in tension, perhaps about to abruptly turn around and strike him, perhaps about to break and collapse into a distraught pile of bone and flesh. “You’re a liar.”
The words are akin to a strike itself. He near hisses, unstable in his new knowledge. “Why the fuck would they tell me? I’m not even a colonel.” His volume rises, swirling in the atmosphere, ready to completely burst free. “I didn’t have a damn thing to do with it—“
“But you certainly have something to do with those who ordered it!” You finally turn to him. You’re livid. Eyes red with tears, lips in a tight line, a glare that threatens to break him.
And your statement is not something he can deny. He deflates, silent. He can feel your eyes on him expectantly, but nothing comes.
When enough time passes, you stand from the bed, grabbing your things from the bedside table. As your fingers delicately wrap around the blaster you regularly carry around, he briefly thinks that perhaps you’re about to turn around and shoot him.
But you don’t, and something new finds home beside your anger: a heartbreaking sense of disappointment.
It’s on instinct when his hand shoots out, grasping your arm. “No, wait…please. Don’t go,” he says quietly.
You’re all he has. There’s nothing more to say other than that. Life in the Order is a cold one, always has been. While he may not agree with the side you’ve chosen, you’re the sole warmth in his life, the sole radiant light.
You jerk in his grip, but he tightens it, eyes unashamedly pleading with you, begging you to not leave him.
Even in the place you always meet him, buried beneath layers of rock, surrounded by passages of clandestine activity necessary in your illicitness, his meetings with you never fail to be the only times he’s truly happy.
“Please…,” he pleads once more, thumb running over your knuckles.
A debate takes place on your features, and he can read you better than he can anyone else. He’s the person you’d let into your heart, the person you’d revealed every personal secret to. He’s the one who’d whispered ‘I love you’ one fateful night, the one to whom you’d whispered it back. He’s the one that had challenged your blind loyalty to any ideology, the one to whom you’d done the same.
He can see all those things viciously, ruthlessly grappling with the horrifying events that had just transpired: bodies being ripped to shreds, building being reduced to dust, life being annihilated in fire.
And in an act of emotional obscurity, the two opponents are shockingly close.
It’s evident which wins out when you limply fall back to the bed, body slumping to lie down, eyes tiredly closed.
“Then tell me why,” you whisper, barely audible.
“Why what?”
“I want to know why you joined the people who did…this.”
And at that simple request, he feels his walls rise. Even if they’d fallen long ago when he was around you, they’d never truly disappeared.
“I thought we don’t talk about stuff like that,” says Poe quietly.
“Well, I changed my fucking mind.”
He gazes around the room, reminded of the sole thing that prevents full, unconditional commitment to the other. The space they are in is a brutal reminder of the fact, for it presents itself in sets of two, an embodiment of duality.
Two blasters on top of the bedside table. One polished and new, the other dull and thoroughly used.
Two sets of boots clumsily scattered by the door. One shiny, lacking a single scuff mark, one that’s appearance suggests it’s been passed through several owners.
Two jackets. One with the hexagonal, sixteen-rayed symbol of the First Order, one with the starbird of the Resistance.
It’s a glaringly horrid representation of the two of you, never destined to be the same.
“Did your tongue also vanish along with the five planets?”
He slowly comes back to the present with your words, forcing away his disconnect.
It’s not something he can afford right now. Maintaining his privacy, hiding the events of his past, concealing the cause of his motives—he can’t afford any of that if he wants you.
And somehow, all he does want is you. You, you, you—to the point that he wonders if it’s unhealthy, if it’s even real and true, but that’s something he refuses to consider in the moment.
Even though you’d seen some of the darkness through him, he is certain that your loyalty to light is stronger, if only marginally, and that means he has to tell. He has to reveal.
“My mother,” he simply says, gaze unfocused. “She was a rebel pilot. She died.”
The slight stirring of your body freezes. He’d never talked of his family’s loyalties; he’d always given the impression that they’d passively existed in the deluge of light and dark that had overtaken the galaxy.
“She’s why I joined.” He flinches at the memory, grimacing at the pain he’d felt as a boy. “She died because of rebellion recklessness. Because of belief in blind hope.”
The anger—it’s simmering once more, bubbling higher, inching further and further to the edge of his chest.
And he can tell yours is too. Your fingers grip at the sheets as your eyes narrow. “Reckless…blind…hope?” He’s questioning your belief, accusing it of something dangerously irrational, and you yearn to lash back on instinct, to defend the beliefs you’d lived your life by—even as your own doubts of it conceal themselves in the background.
He laughs bitterly, his voice rising again. “Don’t kid yourself. That’s what the New Republic lived off of, and it was a fucking mess.”
You tense up, practically shrieking your next words, wholly, viciously attacking him back. “Who are you to say that—“
“There were people revolting in the streets!” he yells, his voice perhaps even louder than yours had been. “There were people in the Outer Rim starving! It was chaos—“
“And the First Order is what? Orderly?”
“They’re better than you and your—“
And he falls silent all of a sudden. He stops himself.
He knows where this is going. It’d happened and been resolved before, but he has a sneaking suspicion that that won’t be the case if the two of you continue down this road.
“Fuck,” he groans under his breath, his back slumped as he rubs his face with his hands.
“Me and my what?” you ask quietly.
He just shakes his head.
You fall back to your laying down position, head burying in the sheets, trying to block everything out. He’s right. He’s entirely right. The flaw in the Light, the flaw in the Republic, but you can’t bring yourself to denounce the loyalty you’d inherited.
He sniffles, hiding his tears behind his hands, and his figure—he knows it’s one of pure pain. As good as he’d gotten at hiding his emotions, they always seem to show themselves in your presence, no matter how hard he tries to defeat them, and it’s undeniable that you feel them to the fullest.
“You say ‘mama’ in your sleep sometimes,” you whisper all of a sudden.
At the revelation, he goes still. It’s an unsettling thought…that perhaps you’d known of his weakness long before he’d willingly showed you, long before he thought you deserved to know.
That maybe you’d heard the words of him crying out for his mother before you’d even known the slightest deeply-personal thing about him, when you’d only known the feeling of him inside you and the feeling of his lips on yours and the weight of his body as he slept beside yours.
His reluctance to look at you only increases tenfold when the shame floods in. The shame of a lifetime at this point—of weakness regarding his family, of putting blaster bolts in people who didn’t deserve them, of not being able to let go of his past, something he’d been striving for his whole life.
It all externally devolves into a mere fit of subtle trembles.
“Poe?” Your tone is soft now, gentle. You’re on your knees, sitting up, a single hand on the side of his face joining the space between the two of you. A certain mixture of concern and inquisitiveness finds home in your eyes, and for a second, he thinks your expression reflects one of a person staring at a beaten-down, once-aggressive animal.
“I regret it—joining the Order,” he simply says, voice cracking. The gas, plasma, fire, flesh, and bone of the destroyed system fill his imagination. “Is that what you want to hear?”
“Only if you mean it.” There’s still no sympathy to your voice, but there’s a softer edge to it, the kind that’s always existed but disappears in every fight.
“I do.” He leans back into the pillows, forearm over his eyes. It feels as if this has been going on for far too long, for he’s exhausted.
Your hand finds its way into his curls, tracing from his hairline to the base of his neck. It’s hauntingly reminiscent of what he’d felt so passionately and tenderly before the conflict had even begun.
“All darkness dies in the light,” you whisper.
It’s an ambiguous statement to many, but he automatically knows what you’re asking of him—you want his darkness to die in your light.
And while part of him begs and yearns to submit to your wish, something about your words perturbs him—the words unsaid. His darkness…the one he’d held for so long, you don’t want it to disappear, you don’t want it to transform, no, you want it to die. You want him to kill it.
“I can’t,” he says softly, fingers fumbling with the sheets, almost hoping to blindly find you.
“The Light Side’ll—“
“I’m done with the fucking sides,” he interjects, his words lined with a sharp edge. A puff of air leaves his lips as he desperately wishes for calm, one with at least some semblance of permanence. He finally looks at you, eyes now completely devoid of any anger or menace they’d held before, just the sadness of someone who’d made one too many wrong choices. “It’s just pain either way, isn’t it?”
“Maybe,” you admit, a brief expression of hesitance crossing your face. “But you have to choose.” The hesitance turns to anguish, a revelation in its most subtle form. “There’s more pain if you don’t, and perhaps…perhaps that’s why I chose my side.”
He props himself up on his forearms at the mere implication—the implication that your unwavering loyalty to the light is not so unwavering, that you’d gone head in like he had with his loyalty and was now beginning to doubt things.
“Some don’t choose—“
“And they suffer for it,” you interrupt, finishing his statement with your own thoughts. It’s something you’ve seen your whole life: those who don’t choose being made to do so—often in violence.
He laces his fingers with yours, delicately wrapping each of your digits around his palm.“We’ve suffered our entire lives, darling,” he muses. “Born into a galaxy at war, a brief respite, and then yet another one…just suffering, suffering, suffering…within us, around us…what’s a little more?”
The whole room seems to freeze as you peer at him, part curiosity, part doubt, part disbelief. “What are you suggesting?”
“I think you know,” he says softly. The warmth staring back at you is undeniably something you would die for.
“Say it.” Your whisper is said with the deepest conviction, awaiting the words that would cement your decision, perhaps a decision you won’t know until you hear the offer leave his lips.
“Let’s go,” he murmurs. “Let’s run.” His gaze is fixed on you, begging for this. He needs you—he needs you to be there for him so that he has a place in the galaxy, a place he would never have otherwise. “Please.”
Your breath shakes, just barely, contemplating, debating. There’s an inevitable weight to war, the kind that crushes people to pieces, and the temptation to run from such a force—it feels right. It feels right to be free, to live safer, to be with whom you want. “There’ll be sacrifices to make.”
“There’ll be sacrifices either way,” he insists, and you’re certain he’s right. “Darling….” His words fade off, and he surges forward, gently locking his lips with yours. It’s tender and pleading, the ultimate question asked once again through touch.
“Poe….” The way you say his name is filled with something decisive, something deliberate. The seconds pass. He waits. “Let’s go.”
Another Life
This story will include themes of child SA, SA, substance abuse, and alcohol abuse. I’ll update any trigger warnings as they come up.
Chapter 3
“I think I’m dying. Is this what dying feels like? Because it feels like I’m dying?” Dani groaned, sitting down on the bench in the park beside Jamie.
“No, you’re not dying Dani.. I mean I’ve never died before but I think that dying feels different then caffeine withdrawal.” Jamie opened her pack of cigarettes and offering it to Dani who took one.
“These menthols?” She asked while fishing in her jacket pocket for a lighter.
“Yeah. They’re the ones with the little ball in the filter that you have to crush.” Jamie handed Dani her lighter just as she pulled her own out of her pocket.
“Oh great, my third ball crushing of the night.” She snorted. Dani light the cigarette and slowly exhaling while crushing the filter between her fingers to create a menthol cigarette.
“Sounds like you’ve had an eventful night. Mines been pretty boring. It’s just been a shit ton of 40 year old men cheating on their wives. It’s kind of nice though, all I gotta do is lie back and they’re coming in 2 minutes from all the excitement.” Jamie chuckled.
“It’s been.. something. That guy is nice though and as strange as it is it’s nice to get out a little bit of my frustration out with him.”
“I thought you said third ball crushing of the night? What was the second?” She raised her eyebrow. Jamie knew who Dani was talking about because he was a regular John of hers.
“The guy’s got two balls.” Dani stated as if it was obvious which made Jamie laugh.
“I think I’m going to grab a coffee before my 5am. I can’t do this no coffee thing anymore. I’m dying. I don’t know why I thought quitting caffeine was a good thing.” Dani checked her phone. It was 3:45 and she knew there was a diner right around the corner from where they were.
“I don’t know why either. Of all the things keeping your body going, you decide caffeine is the first thing you wanna quit?”
“Hey, I like to keep things interesting.” Dani shrugged. “Besides everything else is to fun and… stuff.” She knew she was in way to deep into the party lifestyle to stop everything. Alcohol helped numb her. The coke helped her find the energy her body needed to run on 3 hours of sleep a day and the opioids helped her chill out when her mind got the best of her and the physical abuse she suffered left her struggling to move. Everything else she took was just for fun, and she had no reason to stop. “Want to come with me to this diner I saw around the corner? We can go somewhere warm for a bit and I can drink coffee and then not sleep later.. which makes this plan a bad plan but I’m freezing and don’t have anywhere to be for an hour.”
“I wish. I got some guy picking me up at 4.” Jamie frowned. She would much rather join Dani then spend an hour in a sketchy motel for the 8th time tonight.
“Lame, we gotta starting scheduling our appointments together.” Dani stood up and leaned down to peck a kiss on Jamie’s lips.
—————————————————
Now that it was the weekend the diner was busier then it had been during the week. She had spent some of the quieter times of the nights using the stage in the diner to practice her dance for her recital but it had been consistently busy tonight with people stopping in the diner for a bite to eat after broadway shows, and club goers. It wasn’t to much of a different scene then during the day when she normally worked but the drunk patrons could get on Santana’s nerves. Now that the clubs had been closed for almost two hours it was slowly emptying out and Santana knew it would be dead again soon. She hoped she could get in some practice, if only to keep her awake because she was more tired then usual tonight.
Santana sighed from behind the counter when she heard the bell chime and was about to go greet their new customer when her shift partner stopped her and said she would get it.
—————————————————
“Sit anywhere you like.” Dani acknowledged the waitress when she entered the diner. Dani took a seat in a booth by the window.
“Hello! My name is Angel. I’ll be taking care of you tonight.” Dani smirked at the blonde. It was funny to her that two different jobs could use the same line on customers with two completely different meanings.
“Can I start you off with a drink or do you need a minute to look at the menu?” The question snapped Dani from her thoughts and she quickly scanned the menu. She should eat something and she was hungry but Dani only had enough cash on her for a coffee. Well.. she had other cash on her but she wouldn’t dare touch it because he would know if she short changed him and that wouldn’t have a good outcome for her.
“Just a coffee please.” Dani flashed the girl a smile.
“Coming right up.”
Dani sat back in her booth, enjoying the warmth of the place. Spring was here but on nights like tonight it didn’t feel like it. When her coffee was placed in front of her Dani thanked Angel when her coffee was places in front of her. She grabbed the sugar and poured some in her coffee, then grabbed a few creamers and poured those in before mixing her coffee. She didn’t expect this coffee to be the best she ever had, but it was needed.
With a sigh Dani rest her head in her hand, her elbow on the table. She just wanted to go home and go to bed but she knew that that wouldn’t happen for a few more hours so she hoped the coffee would do it’s job and wake her up. She wasn’t necessarily surprised to see that she wasn’t the only one in the diner, but it was busier in here then she expected it to. Her eyes scanned the restaurant, most people in here looked like they had left a club and were just here to have a place to keep the party going.
“Shit.” Dani felt her heart skip a beat when she continued to scan the diner and her eyes fell on the only other waitress in the diner.
No, no. It’s not her. She just looks like her. It’s 4am Dani, you’re at a diner miles away from Ohio and Los Angeles which is where her and Santana had made plans to run off to after high school. The caffeine withdrawal is just getting to your head. Dani was trying her best to convince herself that she didn’t just see who she thought she saw. There was no way that she did, even though she highly doubted not having coffee for a day and a half could cause hallucinations.. it could have. She had no idea. Okay calm down. Stop freaking out! That isn’t her. You’ve been through this. She’s gone. Dani she’s gone and with where the fuck your life ended up it’s a good thing. Santana was destined for great things and she wouldn’t have deserved to be dragged into all this shit you were. I didn’t either though. She thought to herself, staring down at her coffee that she hadn’t touched yet. Maybe I did? She didn’t though.
Dani shook her head. She didn’t need to be thinking about this right now because the waitress just looked like her, either that or Dani was finally losing it. Just to make sure that she didn’t see who she thought she did Dani took another peek at the waitress, who was laughing at a comment somebody at another table made. That laugh, she would recognize it anywhere. That was Santana.
All the colour drained from Dani’s face. Her mind was racing with thoughts. How was Santana here? Have they lived in the same city for years? Why was she here? Had Santana seen her to and recognized her? No it didn’t seem like it. Dani had a million more questions but she didn’t have time to search her brain for answers because she had to get out of here. Her ex-girlfriend, the one she had planned a whole future with was here in the same diner she was at 4am on a Saturday morning. Dani had to get out of here. She so desperately wanted to go up to her, wrap her arms around her waist and tell her how much she loved her. She couldn’t do that though. The last thing she needed was Santana seeing her like this. She didn’t want her to see the way she was dressed. She didn’t want her to look in her eyes and notice her pupils were the size of saucers. And she definitely didn’t need her putting two and two together and figuring her out before she had a chance to even have one conversation with the woman.
Looking down at the table Dani inhaled a shaky breath. She had to leave. The longer she sat here the more she would want to talk to the woman and Dani couldn’t do that or risk staying and being recognized. Dani knew as painful as it was that she was better off forgetting that this even happened. Dani needed to forget because her life was a mess that Santana didn’t need to be in, not again.
Opening her wallet Dani pulled a $5 bill out and placed it on the table. It was enough money for the coffee, that remained untouched and a generous tip. She tried to get up without drawing attention to herself, not even risking looking in the direction of the Latina while she slipped out the door.
It was taking all of her strength to not break down as she rushed back to the park hoping there would be a familiar face there that she could talk to. When she got back though there wasn’t, it was probably for the best though because she couldn’t break, not here. Dani still had to work for a few more hours to go and she knew exactly what to do to numb her pain.
Dani walked further into the park and knelt down behind a tree, out of view of the road and anybody else she could see. It had been almost five years since she last saw Santana. She didn’t know that it would be the last time when Santana dropped her off that night and what hurt the most was that she didn’t even get to say goodbye. Dani had been forced to leave and she hoped that Santana didn’t think she left because she wanted to or because she didn’t love her anymore because that was so far from the truth. She loved Santana, she still loved Santana. No matter how much she tried to convince herself she didn’t still love her, Dani did. It didn’t matter though. That part of her life was over. Maybe she could convince Jay to let her move cities? That was she wouldn’t be tempted to go back to that diner. Dani shook her head as she sat down. She was getting ahead of herself and for now she just had to shut her brain off and finish her night business as usual.
wish I were (pt3)
harry appreciates reader in his speech but finally talks to her when she runs off crying
part 1
‘heather’ by conan gray WARNINGS - ANGST, swearing WORDCOUNT - 3,501
_________________________________________________________
My head was empty while I appreciated the company of a glass of wine and city view of the venue. I leaned against the railing of the small balcony nook I found, away from the crowd of people as Bowie was played faintly through the speakers.
I arrived to the party alone. Even if our relationship is awkward at the moment, I couldn't miss his birthday. Especially if it feels like it would be the last one I attend for a while. It took me only a few seconds to find him talking to his management team, a conversation that I didn't want to interrupt. And for the next twenty minutes I find myself isolated from everyone. Maybe because I know the relationship topic would inevitably come up at one point during any conversation I join into. But also because I didn't know how to approach Harry himself anymore. I can't bring myself to start the conversation, but for him, it seems like everything is good and normal.
I promised myself to only one glass of wine, so when I finished that rather quickly then intended, I honestly didn't know what to do with myself. As much as I've been trying to think like Harry and feel completely normal again, I hated how much our relationship has effected me. No matter how many times I've told myself that it's better this way, I've avoided hanging out with mutual friends to keep away from a conversation about Heather.
I took a deep breath and turned around, looking into the venue to catch Harry smiling and nodding to Gemma. One arm across his chest while his cheek rested against the other. He looked too good this evening, wearing a worn vest and matching bell bottom pants. I allowed myself to stare till his eyes glanced in my direction and catch mine.
I soften when his smile grows wider and he excuses himself away from the conversation. "For some reason, I'd knew you'd come here when we checked out the space." He says as he walks out into the balcony. "Almost had a reservation sign put up with your name on it."
He engulfs me in a hug, nuzzling his face into my neck. I slowly wrapped my arms around him and find myself resting my head on his broad shoulder when I realize this was our first hug in weeks. Oh how much I missed this feeling.
"I appreciate the thought but damn, am I thought obvious?"
"Oh I just know you too well and you love me for it."
I feel goosebumps, finding ourselves though pulled away, still in each other's arms while I smile up at him. I hummed In response before holding up a finger and turning to get the small box in my purse. When I turn back around he has a sly smirk on his face as he looks at the box wrapped with a yellow bow I hold out to him.
"Happy birthday Harry. I wanted to give this to you in person." He takes the box and unwraps the ribbon and opens it. I hold my breath, watching his reaction as he stares at a familiar string of pearls. He runs his fingers through them, a look of admiration set on his face as I twiddled my fingers.
"I always let you wear mine so I just thought you'd like a pair of your own."
"You know me well too."
"And you love me for it." I chuckled, immediately turning around and looking out onto the view as he situates himself next to me, the box once again closed and held tightly in his hands. "I'll wear these till I wear them out. Oh! We'll wear them at the same time like friendship necklaces." He tells me, giving me a side hug and squeezing my arm.
I laughed at the thought, "Only we could make friendship necklaces out of pearls worth hundreds of dollars."
We stayed quiet for a while, just enjoying each other's company. The elephant in the room knows it's been a few weeks since the last time we shared a moment alone. I'm just not sure how he feels about the reason why.
"Shouldn't you go back out there? Supposed to be a good host." I nudged his shoulder with mine, not wanting to take him away from his party and not knowing how much I could take how hard my chest is beating at the same time.
"Well you're here. Almost thought you wouldn't show since you're weren't early."
"Can't I be fashionably late for once?"
"Glad you are though, bubs. Honestly was about to spend the night a sad man when Heather canceled."
Here we go, the one topic I dreaded would come up. Of course it would be with him when it does. "Oh. Uh she isn't here?"
"No yeah she ehm. She left yesterday for Paris. Last minute gig she booked." He shrugged it off like it was not a big deal, but he's playing with the yellow ribbon in a way that tells me otherwise.
"I'm sorry, I'm sure she'll make it up when she get's back." He scoffs, undoing the bow he just made with the ribbon. "If by 'make up' you mean a few hours in bed before she jet sets to Milan for a few months then yeah."
"Harry, you should tell her that you want her here."
"No, no it's fine. She can do whatever she wants, it's her career."
"It's also your birthday. Shouldn't girlfriends or whatever you two are right now care about that stuff?" I sighed, gently taking away the ribbon and box from him, wrapping it back while he turns and rests his back on the railing, crossing his arms and facing the entrance back into the venue. "That's the thing, I don't know what she wants out of this. I never did even when we were really together. When we were, it's so picture perfect and then when we'd get busy with our own lives, it's just so on and off. We blamed it on bad timing and long distance in the end but now that I think about it, we didn't know where to go from there."
"Do you know what you want now?"
"I think I do."
I tilted my head, growing frustrated but kept my tone calm. "Then why don't you just talk?"
"Ugh you know I'm not a confrontational person bubs." He finally looks at me, seeing me roll my eyes while he laughs it off. I shake my head, tapping on the box as he reaches out to rub my arm. "You're a dummy, Harry."
"Why do you call me that?"
I glanced at him, shrugging. "What do you mean?"
"What happened to 'H' hmm? Been calling me Harry for a while." Though his tone was lighthearted, his brows are furrowed and I can feel his intense stare.
"It's your name isn't it?"
"Obviously, but...I don't know, never mind-"
"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you..." We suddenly hear from inside, making us both turn at the same time to see Jeff holding a cake and a crowd gathered around him, slowly walking towards the balcony where the birthday boy was. His smile grows back and we exchange a look before I hand him back my present and walk back in towards the celebration.
***
"Well, I am a man of a few words... but a good comedian doesn't repeat the same joke two years in a row. Ehm, I'm gonna do what I know best which is to spew whatever I feel from in here and hope it sounds somewhat poetic." He laughs a little at his own joke, making little hand gestures and smiling when he gets the laughs and smiles back from his words. His eyes stray to the people in front of him and to the side in thought at times, but he makes the effort to look at his friends, family members and co-workers who he is ultimately grateful for. My eyes soften at his toothy grin, knowing I look like a complete fool as I stare at him in complete adoration despite it being completely obvious how enamored I am for this man.
He gives short thank you's to the his band members and relatives he's grown close too. I laugh at his awkward jokes but also the narcissistic ones he makes that boost his confidence a bit. He has one thing prepared to say for everyone that makes them melt. "Thank you Jeff for having to deal with me another year as well, while you do look after me I am always appreciative of how you act more as an old grandpa than a dude in a business suit."
"I also want to thank Heather..."
My smile dies down a bit, knowing he would want to say something about her even when she isn't here. What made my chest hurt once again was the realization that he hadn't said anything about me yet. I had anticipated it, wondering what he would say but he had skipped right over me. I placed my hand on my knee to keep it from shaking as Harry said her name instead.
"I'll just text her later but I wanted to thank her for allowing me to write about her and being an overall beautiful person."
Thinking his speech was over and accepting how little I meant to him, he finally calls my name. I froze for a bit, looking up at him to see him already looking at me. He paused a bit, an amused look on his face when he sees how caught off guard I was.
"I saved the best for last for two reasons, one because she looks adorably silly right now..." He chuckles when I save myself with an eye roll and stuck my tongue out at him.
"And two, because I knew it'll be harder for me to come up with the words to describe how important of a person you are to me."
The curiosity and need to know what he would say about me, as well as the internalized emotional stress grew. His tone was softer and he seemed more calmer than he was a few minutes ago. The sentence already began making my heart pump and ache, and the recent events that had shaken up our relationship almost thrown out the window when he continued.
"You're so good to me and I can't thank you endlessly enough for everything you've done for the past year since I hired you. Not only was it the best decision I ever made because of how talented you are, but it also gave me the opportunity to really know someone like you. I was in a bad place when you met me and I'll never forget the kindness and patience you showed me even then. And though you call me a 'boomer' so many times and constantly come up with better melodies than me, it's worth every witty joke and bad pun just to see a smile that lights up the room. Your friendship is worth every time you complain about my kale chips."
His eyes were caught on mine from the beginning, both his hands are holding his wine glass though he held confidence in his speech. It felt like just us two in the room, his words giving tone of a very intimate moment shared between two bestfriends. I bit my bottom lip, can't seeming to stop smiling.
"And though you'll be off writing more amazing music with different amazing artists - only temporarily - know that I'll always be rooting for you and always will be -"
He breaks eye contact for a moment, but that moment was enough. "- will be uhm, proud of you." His smile grows ten times wider and he sounds relieved when he looks off onto the entrance of the venue as someone arrives. His eyes go back and forth, distracted but wanting to finish what he had left to say.
"Through thick and thin, love, you always were able to be there for me."
At that point he was fully looking at the person who arrived and I didn't have the guts to turn around to see who it was. My smile instantly dies and the warmth in my chest was just filled with a familiar pang that hasn't left all this time.
Because there she was, though out of breath and all over the place, just looked perfect as she grins and mouths 'happy birthday' to him while he haphazardly continues empty compliments that are now meant for her. My vision is blurry but my eyes are stuck on the actual person he deems important in his life. This lovely being who canceled last minute but makes it in time so he'd be truly happy.
He meant to say all of it to her. You just happened to be here when she wasn't. He doesn't love you like he loves her and he never will. He never had.
It was hard looking back at him, already knowing the way he looks at her. It was deja vu. She shows up and he's instantly mesmerized.
But I did and it suddenly was all too much. Because he glanced at me when he was saying his last words, seeing me silently cry in the middle of the crowd and looking distraught. And it all grew too claustrophobic, needing to get away and leave because all I felt now was anger.
"Hey, you okay?" Gemma asks, her brows furrowed in concern. I force a smile and nodded before excusing myself. "Yeah, just fine."
 ***
I pushed open the door and quickly walked out of the lobby and onto the parking lot, ignoring the distant calls of my name that grew louder and louder. I hugged my coat, trying to breathe but grew more frustrated with the growing ache in my chest. I sobbed, knowing he was catching up and didn't have the energy to deal with him right now.
"Hey, what happened - are you okay?" Harry had took hold of my arm, turning me around and all I could do was push him away. "Bubs, talk to me please."
"Stop, please I'm so tired and I physically can't be near you." I softly said, not bothering to wipe away tears anymore. He looks confused and I only scoffed at him, crossing my arms and moving back when he stepped closer, holding out his.
"What do you mean? Please let me- you're crying." He tries coming closer but I shake my head, dodging his embrace because I knew I would instantly melt.
"Yes, I'm crying! I've been crying and hurting all month because of you Harry!" I cried and he instantly freezes. "You keep doing this shit and all this time I've been coming up with excuses for it. That- I don't know, maybe that you can't help what you're feeling or that I really can't blame you- but now I do! Because you know exactly what you're doing and it's so shitty that I had to realize it this late."
"W-what are you talking about?" He's nervous.
"Oh shut the fuck up you know exactly what I'm talking about. You've avoided actually talking ever since we kissed, even before Heather came back into the picture. You completely pushed me to the side the second she gave you her attention and ever since then our whole relationship has changed Harry! And either you're so fucking oblivious or too much of a coward to face it because you just acting like everything was fine and normal broke my fucking heart even more. It obviously meant so little to you but fuck, it-"
I took a deep breathe only resorting to another sob as I placed a hand over my heart. "It meant so much to me."
I see him crying too, fumbling with his fingers and trying to hold those tears in only to lose some as he's stood still, not knowing what to do. He's guilty, his need to hold me and cry gives it away but I couldn't allow him that. And he knows it's something he doesn't deserve.
"I would of understood Harry. That you didn't feel the same fireworks and butterflies like I did when we kissed - as cliché as it fucking is. That you've fallen in love with Heather when she came back because I honestly still can't blame you for that, she's an angel. That you can't control who you love, but you never said anything. You just lead me on and didn't talk to me - why didn't you just fucking talked to me Harry, aren't we supposed to be best friends?"
He's now only inches away from me, taking hold of my hands because I was too worn out to even pull them back. "Yes! Yes, we are and I'm a stupid idiot. I'm sorry I- I should of just been upfront with you but I was so confused- and I still am. I just- I meant everything I said earlier and more because I'm always thinking about you bubs-"
I laugh at this shaking my head, not allowing anymore hope to built up. "I am! Mitch and Jeff are so fucking tired of hearing about it, but honestly so was I. But only because Heather was still in my heart and I just didn't know what to do or wanted and please believe me, I never ever wanted to hurt you."
"Why did you kiss me then?" I broke out of his hold, stepping back once again.
"I don't know darling, It just felt right and I didn't think. I-I just thought you'd leave if you knew I wasn't sure."
"Being honest about it with your supposed best friend was going to make it worse?"
"I just...I didn't want to lose you."
"But what now? you got her back, so what am I to you now? Was I supposed to be your distraction, the only option left for you to turn to? Because you fully well know that I'd drop everything I was doing just to comfort you when you were low Harry. I canceled set plans and promises because you simply asked me too, and I did since I'd always foolishly put you first because I thought you'd genuinely liked me."
"Bubs-"
"Don't. Harry you can't just put me on the side and come back to me later on if your relationships don't work out, that's not fucking fair! Ever since we met all I've been getting from you are mixed signals and I couldn't confront you about it because you'd always avoid the topic, making me feel damn silly for even thinking that way. It's just- you can't build up expectation of something between us simply because I'm the safe second option - fuck that hurts saying that."
"I- I didn't mean to make you feel that way-"
"Bullshit. You knew exactly what you were doing Harry. You're just to arrogant to own up to it. So fucking immature, all you had to do was talk!"
"Okay, okay I'm sorry let's talk, please! Don't walk away like this, we can talk now and fix this."
"No. You only want to talk now because it's convenient for you. That's the thing Harry."
"Stop-"
"You say you didn't want to hurt me, but you didn't want to hurt yourself first. And I just- I just hate how long it took me to realize how mean you are Harry."
"Don't call me Ha- you don't mean that."
"I do! and you know it too." He's struck by it and I'm giving up. Hurt is evident in his face and it doesn't feel good to make him sad, but now all I feel is disappointment and pity for myself.
"Since you couldn't have the balls to talk to me, I just always really wanted to tell you that I love you. Really fucking love you. As if you didn't already know, but... I guess it never really even mattered."
He calls my name deflatingly when I turn around, walking away. His last attempts of apologizing and begging for me to come back to him drift off into empty words that I block out as I stepped into my car and drove away. The time it takes for me to drive felt like days pass, but now turned to seconds when I turned off the engine and idled inside. I was still crying, still processing, all while replaying our last moment together. The one spent on the floor of the recording studio with a makeshift picnic before I spend the next days erasing it from my memory.
I sent him a text before going inside, turning off my phone right afterwards to avoid the rest of the incoming calls and text messages begging to fix what was left of us.
'I'll email you the lyrics to the last song tomorrow. Then I'm done.'
