IT Consultancy Services — Custom-Made Tech Solutions for Your Business Transformation
With the fast-moving pace of the digital world, every organization is constantly searching for avenues where they can improve their operations and security as well as stay competitive; hence IT consultancy services have become one of the key resources. Their services offer the expertise required to help businesses implement and refine tech solutions that align with their individual requirements. Consultants provide the necessary expertise to meet the technological demands of a thriving competitive environment, whether with immediate technical challenges or laying out long-term IT strategies.
One of the essential advantages that come with IT consultancy is its special implementation to synchronize technology and business goals. They do in-depth evaluations of existing IT systems to uncover inefficiencies, risks, and opportunities. Afterwards, they create tailored strategies to enhance performance—be it through equipment upgrades, adoption of new technology or process improvement—keeping every solution aligned with the organizational growth.
IT consultancy shines in one key area — cybersecurity. As cyber threats have become widespread, the need for protection of sensitive data and systems has also increased. IT consultants assist organizations in identifying vulnerabilities and adopting comprehensive security measures while also ensuring the implementation of proactive monitoring systems. Not only does this strategy reduce risks but it also helps with legal compliance of data protection laws, preventing the company from damaging its image and spending unnecessary resources.
One more important thing is — cloud migration. While organizations are increasingly moving to the cloud to increase scalability and collaboration, IT consultants play a critical role in this transition. They facilitate a smooth transition while reducing downtime from choosing the best platform to migrating data and setting up security measures. This leads to a faster and more affordable IT infrastructure.
One of the major areas which brings value through IT consulting services is Automation. Things like adopting tools to automate repetitive tasks can improve productivity, and allow employees to focus on higher value work. Automation solutions have a huge role to play when it comes to streamlining workflows in industries such as retail, manufacturing and healthcare while keeping operational costs low.
Another important measure IT consultancy can take is digital transformation. In an age where technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, IoT and big data are shaping the future of businesses, consultants are helping organizations bring about these innovations in their strategies. These emerging technologies provide greater decision-making, customer experience and growth opportunities.
IT consulting is known for being cost efficient. Businesses can pay for top-class expertise as needed rather than incurring the costs of a full IT team working full-time. Lastly, consultants also pay attention to providing solutions that are cost-effective and designed according to the unique requirements and specifications of clients for optimal technology solution ROI.
IT consultants offer not just services but also training and persistent support as well. Consultants do more than just implementing new systems instead they prepare and empower employees with the knowledge of how to employ these technologies efficiently. Ongoing training sessions combined with assistance develop the sustainability of IT initiatives.
Final thoughts: Thus, IT consulting services plays a immense role in business to overcome the challenges of modern technology. Whether it is improving cybersecurity, moving to the cloud or powering through a digital transformation, consultants offer one-sized-fits-all solutions with tangible outcomes. With their expertise, organizations can operate in a leaner manner with lower risks and can make themselves more prepared for long-term sustainability in the rapidly evolving digital economy.

“An 11-year-old girl who was misdiagnosed with sickness bugs and migraines was assessed by doctors about 30 times before they found that she had a brain tumour, according to her mother.
Tia Gordon, from Northampton, was admitted to hospital as an emergency despite previous visits to GPs, A&E and calls to 111.
Imogen Darby, Tia’s mother, said her daughter’s glasses prescription had also been changed four times before the tumour was found.
Darby had sought help regarding Tia’s migraines and vomiting for more than three years, before being told that the wait for an MRI scan would be at least eight months. It was only when Tia’s balance and ability to walk were affected that she was given an emergency scan, which found a brain tumour measuring about 3.5cm.”
Darby said: “I was told Tia had stomach bugs and migraines. The first thing I was told, because it was the summer, [was that] she just needed to drink more water.
“After probably a year, she got diagnosed with migraines and they gave her paracetamol for that. She was also given another medication for that and her final diagnosis in January from paediatrics was migraine with sickness.
“Over more than three years, I took Tia to doctors, she was refused MRIs, she was refused to be seen by emergency paediatrics, I called 111, I went to A&E. She had her glasses changed four times, she was given medication and she had a consultant, but it took for her to be unable to walk for her to get the care she needed.”
Darby first noticed Tia’s symptoms in March 2020 when she started vomiting with increasing frequency. Darby twice tried to get her daughter referred to emergency paediatrics, but was declined both times and told it was not an emergency.
Later, Tia began holding her neck in an unusual way and complained about stiffness, for which she was referred to a physiotherapist.
Despite several visits to A&E and calls to GPs and the NHS’s 111 service, Tia’s remained undiagnosed. From November 2023 to January 2024, Tia was vomiting violently every day, and began to lose her balance. “She was tipping her milk out in the kitchen sink,” Darby said. “She was standing there and … she didn’t notice she was doing it at all.”
After a phone call from Tia’s school, which said Tia was holding her neck and was off balance, Darby took her to Northampton General Hospital. While there, Tia was unable to walk in a straight line, and a CT scan revealed a pilocytic astrocytoma — the most common type of brain tumour in children.
Tia was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, where she had a ten-hour operation to remove the tumour. “It was quite a horrendous day,” Darby said. “They managed to get 96 per cent of it out.”
Tia called the growth her “astronaut tumour”. Since the procedure, she gets very tired and can sometimes lose her balance. Her recovery will consist of an MRI scan every three months for the next five years, and she is having regular physiotherapy and meetings with neurologists.
She is keen to get back to her hobbies. Darby calls her “Dr Doolittle” due to her love for animals, and added that Tia is a keen reader and enjoys playing dodgeball.
Cameron Miller, director of external affairs and strategy at the Brain Tumour Charity, said “We wish Tia all the best with her continuing treatment and thank Imogen for sharing her story.
“Sadly, it’s one that we often hear. For many brain tumour patients, it simply takes too long to be diagnosed — and this is one of the reasons why we’re calling for a National Brain Tumour Strategy.”

“You’re not from the Federation.” Maria said. “Your accent is different, as is your choice of words. You’re British, aren’t you?”
“Yes I am.” The fox’s ears twitched. “I can’t quite place your English though. You don’t sound Southern nor do you sound as if you’re from the eastern seaboard. Midwestern, perhaps?”
“Ontarian.” Maria gave him a nod. “Close. I like yours better though. Then again, the language originated from your home. You’re English?”
“Born in Nottingham, but there’s also Scottish and Irish to me. Mother’s Irish, she was an O’Shaughnessy, from Belfast, before she married my father. Father was born in Scotland, as was my grandfather Ewan. Though grandmother Elspeth was a Watson from Plymouth. So I’m a bit of a mixed breed when you think about it.” Miles said.
“I was born in Ottawa but I barely remember it.” Maria said softly. “My mother is German and English, she was a soldier in the German Army, now she’s a Federation Postal Service postmaster. My father is Ameri-Can, an astronomer. You know my grandfather of course. Then there’s my grandmother Mary, who’s a Holmes from Sussex.” She smiled thinly. “Our grandmothers are Watson and Holmes respectively. I find that interesting.”
“How so?” Miles asked.
“Surely you’ve read Sherlock Holmes.” Maria smiled.
“Yes. I don’t quite follow.”
“Here,” Maria took out her tablet. “I have a copy of the original texts with illustrations.” She pointed to one of Sidney Paget’s illustrations, consisting of a tall human man in frock coat, vest, white shirt and black cravat holding a pipe while sitting in a chair across from a similarly dressed vulpine whose arms are crossed.
“So the man on the right is certainly Holmes,” Miles said softly. “So who’s the fox?”
“Dr. John Watson.” Maria replied. “Not quite the old bumbling human that they liked to paint him as in those ancient movies.”
She went onto the Internet and pulled up a genealogy site. After some typing, the girl gave a triumphant cheer. “And if we look back upon your grandmother Elspeth, who was born not long before my grandmother Mary, generations back it seems that her ancestor is one Thaddeus Watson, son of John Watson and Mary Morstan. His father John is listed as a physician practicing from 1878 to 1920, born on 7 August 1852.”
“As for your grandmother’s ancestor?” Miles asked.
“Relatively easy to trace back, almost all of the Holmes family has resided in Sussex except for their mid 19th-century ancestors, who came from the North Riding of Yorkshire. In our case, my grandmother descends from one William Sherlock Scott Holmes and his wife, Irene Adler. They had a child, John who moved to pre-Federation America and established himself as a consulting detective in his own right under a pseudonym, Nero Wolfe.” Maria smiled.

misdeliria's romance manhwa rec list
Of course, this is far from the number of manhwas I've read, but here are the highlights. Comment your recs if I don't have it here or my inbox is open!
[MANHWACLAN FAVORITES] This website may produce a lot of ads, so for the best experience, download an ad blocker from the app store {i.e., adguard}
Death Is The Only Ending For The Villainess [ ongoing - currently: 162 chapters ] Penelope Eckart reincarnated as the adopted daughter of Duke Eckart and the villainess of a reverse harem dating sim.
I love this manhwa. FL has to navigate how to capture the hearts of the MLs, who all despise the villainess.
Lee Seob’s love [ ongoing - currently: 56 chapters ] The epic office romance between Tae Lee Seob, who doesn’t want to do anything, and Kang Minkyung, who must somehow succeed!
This super cute office romance has me in a chokehold. The art is beautiful, and the MLs moral dilemma is a personal issue he's trying to work through while chasing the FL.
I Can’t Be This Stupid [ completed - currently: 91 chapters ] Doha takes an active role as Rowoon’s secret love consultant, and a romantic life together begins.
A super cute slice-of-life modern romance between two kids on opposite ends of the wealth class—with a little splash of telepathy.
The Villainess Lives Twice [ ongoing - currently: 217 chapters ] But in return for her devotion, Artizea got betrayed. And the one that reaches out his hand to save her from the verge of death is her righteous enemy, Grand Duke Cedrick.
Another unforgettable historical romance where the FL is transported into the villainess' role. Part of the fan translation is messy towards the 100-chapter milestone, but the plot holds up, and I continuously root for the leads in this one.
I'm Not The Final Boss' Lover [ ongoing - currently: 62 chapters ] Jun is prepared to guide Fabian through the second playthrough to the true ending when… Fabian abandons her. Now Grand Duke Mayer Knox—captain of the Dark Knights and the secret final boss—is determined to have her join his party.
I was a total dork about this one. There's a lot of gamer-talk from the FL with historical/fantasy elements. The romance is also perfect (ML falls first, AND harder)
I Thought It's A Common Possession [ ongoing - currently: 77 chapters ] If I was going to die anyway, according to the original, then let’s give a kiss to my handsome husband!
Another villainess isekai (I have a serious obsession). Something about how the FL gets so angsty because they're forced into a role where everyone hates them, and somehow, she manages to get the ML to fall in love with her. UGH, poetry.
The Redemption of Earl Nottingham [ ongoing - currently: 36 chapters ] Madelyn’s husband Ian was left broken after the war, and in turn, made her life a living hell. Fleeing her doomed marriage, she meets a tragic end.
Reincarnation trope! Ahh, love this one. It says it contains mature content, but I don't remember seeing anything—just keep it in mind before you decide to read this one. With miscommunication and pining, the ML really isn't a bad guy; he's just a traumatized eldest child.
Call Me The Devil [ ongoing - currently: 107 ] A plastic surgeon by day and a devil by night, Hyunshin has the power to seduce anyone with his eyes, but somehow, his irresistible temptation does not work on “Lee Na”, who suddenly appeared one day.
The ML is a devil in this one. I loved it so much. The supporting characters really make this one, though. The little family, all of them together, makes my heart palpitate.
My God Is A Lustful Man [ ongoing - currently: 50 chapters ] Hye-sal, a timid ethics teacher who has lived her whole life without desires, finds that a neighbor who exudes desire and pleasure has moved in next door.
Dionysus is the ML in this, and this Greek mythology manhwa adaption is peak. I love the pining and mythology references. Initially, I found this comic on Webtoon, but I found a better source to read from.
I Can't Wait To Eat You [ ongoing - currently: 59 chapters ] I swore to resent her all my life when I was a kid, so I’m going to stick around to make her life impossible, I’ll make sure to eat her happiness away.
OOO, the ML in this one starts off as a little shit, but he definitely grows on you once he realizes his feelings and becomes the best boyfriend/boss ever.
Extroversion of an Immortal [ ongoing - currently: 55 chapters ] A fairy ‘Cheon Moran’, who killed a woodcutter for stealing her wings and lived like a celebrity while trapped in the human world, was discovered by ‘Sa Jeha’, a detective in charge of a murder case in which she was involved.
This one took a while for me to get attached to because I was constantly getting cliffhangers. I really like what it is so far. I'm heavy into speculating what the angst will become, but so far, the characters are so pretty, and that's my main argument.
Pure Love Operation [ ongoing - currently: 108 chapters ] I saw my boyfriend kissing my best friend. if that wasn’t enough, I was with a guy whose guts I hate from my class, Go Eun-Hyuk.
I'm sure many people have already seen this one, but if you haven't, you should. This was one of the stories that got me back into reading webcomics. The art is beautiful, the plot is gripping, and the romance is literally to die for (because I will never experience Dohwa falling in love with me and I'm so envious of Soo-Ae).
What I Decided To Die For [ completed - currently: 98 chapters ] Cha Gyeol, who met Ji Oh while having all sort of bad thoughts, is completely swoon over by Ji Oh with her dazzling smile. However, the people around Cha Gyeol are somehow dangerous for her to go head over heels with him.
This modern reincarnation romance is so good. I was experiencing turmoil rooting for the ML but it all played out right in the end and I should be so happy for the author LOL
[ WEBTOON FAVORITES ] As some of you may know, Webtoon stories aren't always available on other sites, so... The following links will take you to Webtoon's website.
Eaternal Nocturnal [ completed - currently: 101 chapters ] When Eve is visited one night by a mysterious apparition, she finds that her chronic insomnia is miraculously cured. Meanwhile Dae, the dream eater, finds himself unexpectedly and unwillingly drawn to Eve.
I love the author, instantmiso. She also wrote Where Tangents Meet and Siren's Lament, both are completed and I've read. The pining and Dae's character were so satisfying.
The Mafia Nanny [ ongoing - currently: 45 chapters ] Being an Elite Nanny is simple: protect the charge, obey the principle, and don’t get emotionally attached. Easier said than done when Davina’s first client is a dangerously compelling Venetian underboss who’s determined to get under her skin.
The leads in this one have me BARKING. I love a good mafia romance, and this manhwa adaption has me sat and waiting every week for the update. Davina is a badass, and her Venetian employer is such a good father. Some (his son) might even call him daddy. Hehe
Down To Earth [ ongoing - currently: 203 episodes ] Kade lives his average life alone and undisturbed... until a cute alien girl crashes into his backyard!
I initially read this one because my friend kept harping me about it. It's a very cute, wholesome romance between a depressed dude and a sweet, gorgeous, lovable alien girl who crashes on Earth.
Of Swamp And Sea [ ongoing - currently: 100 chapters ] When a monster hunt gone wrong sets two strangers on the same path, they discover their relationship may be more than strictly professional.
I'll be honest and say I am not entirely caught up on this one, only because it went on hiatus after I got caught up. The relationship between the FL and ML was a little off to me at first because I really thought the FL was a teenager until it was revealed she was in her twenties. But, overall, the development between them is lovely.
I Love Yoo [ ongoing - currently: 254 episodes ] Dogged by pain and misfortune from the very beginning, Shin-Ae decides she wants nothing to do with people nor anything to do with romance.
Another extremely popular one, which should take first priority if you haven't started yet. A modern romance with modern-day problems, but the anguish that each character individually experiences keeps me hooked. I hope they all work through their issues and become their happiest selves. Also, the dad is a little bitch boy.
Act Like You Love Me [ completed - currently: 150 chapters ] When a mix-up at a temp job has her spending a day as famous actor Doyun Nam’s personal assistant, she takes her anger out on a doll... which turns out to have the magical ability to control him at her every whim.
This one was so, SO good. I really loved the second ML, but of course, the primary ML is still a heartthrob. The FL was such a lucky girl to have two successful hotties after her.
I could add a lot more, but this is a good start! Happy reading! ❤️

NHS maternity services are getting worse with two-thirds of units in England now deemed unsafe as staff and hospitals find themselves under “huge pressure”, a damning report has warned.
Some 65 per cent of maternity services are now regarded as inadequate or require improvement for safety, up from 54 per cent last year, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has found. Of these, 15 per cent are inadequate.
When looking at overall ratings, one in 10 maternity units are now rated inadequate, while 39 per cent are under the rating requires improvement.
The worsening picture of maternity care in England follows major scandals in Shrewsbury and Nottingham uncovered by The Independent.
The report says the “overarching picture” is “one of a service and staff under huge pressure”. Staff cover “is often fragile, with the rotas relying on every consultant being available”.
It added: “On top of this, consultants face additional pressure from, for example, having to cover registrar rotas and extra on-call shifts to meet the needs of their service.”
One patient told the CQC: “I couldn’t move and asked someone to help me feed my baby and was told ‘you can do it yourself’ … [The midwife] also told me that she was very busy and had other patients that took priority – when I still couldn’t move.”
The report further pointed to issues with governance and lack of oversight from NHS boards, as well as delays to care and lack of one-to-one attention during labour. The report also highlighted poor communication.
The watchdog has said a similar picture has emerged for ambulance services, with 60 per cent deemed to be inadequate or requiring improvement on safety – double last year.
Mental healthcare was also highlighted as an area of concern with 40 per cent rated inadequate or required improvement for safety.
Inspectors pointed to a lack of beds, meaning people can be “cared for in inappropriate environments – often in emergency departments”.
“One acute trust told us that there had been 42 mental health patients waiting for over 36 hours in the emergency department in one month alone.” the report said.
In its wide-ranging report, the CQC warned that healthcare risks becoming a two-tier system, with society divided into those who can pay for care and those who cannot.
It said: “Getting access to services remains a fundamental problem… Along the health and care journey, people are struggling to get the care they need when they need it.”
Factors such as long waits for hospital treatment, waits to see GPs and for referrals, combined with a lack of staff, “increase the risk of a two-tier system of healthcare, with people who can’t afford to pay having to wait longer for care and risking deteriorating health”.
During a press conference watchdog officials said: “More and more people are entering that long-wait category and it's becoming harder to prioritise and deprioritise people, when as I say we are, they are seeing a number of people who, who have effectively not been sustained on electric backlogs arriving into A&E with a serious condition.”
Research by YouGov showed that eight in 10 of those who used private healthcare last year would previously have used the NHS, while another study found 56 per cent of people had tried to use the NHS before going private.
The CQC added: “People may also be forced to make difficult financial choices. We heard from someone who receives benefits who resorted to extracting their own tooth because they were unable to find an NHS dentist.
“They then had to pay £1,200 on a credit card for private treatment, doing without household essentials until the debt was paid.”
CQC chief executive Ian Trenholm said the ongoing strike action by NHS staff – who are unhappy with pay and conditions – has contributed to backlogs.
Sally Warren, director of policy at think tank The Kings Fund, said: “This comprehensive report reveals the sad reality that the quality of care that patients need and deserve is not being met in many parts of the NHS and social care.”
A Department of Health and Social Care spokeswoman said: “We are delivering on three major recovery plans to improve access to urgent and emergency, primary and elective care, and have made progress to significantly reduce the longest waits for routine treatment, despite pressures including industrial action.
“There are record numbers of staff working in the NHS and our historic Long Term Workforce Plan will retain and recruit hundreds of thousands more staff alongside harnessing technology to reform the way we work and save staff time.”

The Value of IT Consultancy Services for Business Success
In today’s technology-driven world, businesses face the dual challenge of keeping up with rapid technological advancements and maintaining efficient, secure, and scalable IT infrastructure. IT consultancy services have emerged as an essential resource, offering expert guidance to help organizations navigate the complexities of digital transformation, optimize their IT operations, and drive growth. These services cater to a wide range of needs, from enhancing cybersecurity to implementing advanced analytics and managing cloud migrations. This article explores how IT consultancy services add value to businesses, enabling them to achieve operational efficiency and a competitive edge.
Understanding IT Consultancy Services
IT consultancy services provide businesses with specialized expertise and strategic advice to help them leverage technology for business objectives. Consulting firms work closely with companies to understand their needs and develop tailored solutions that address specific challenges. These solutions can cover a broad array of areas, including IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, software development, data analytics, and cloud computing. By focusing on both strategy and execution, IT consultants enable businesses to harness technology to improve productivity, enhance customer experience, and streamline operations.
Benefits of IT Consultancy Services
Strategic Planning and Innovation: An IT consultancy helps businesses align their IT strategy with their business goals. Consultants bring a fresh perspective and in-depth knowledge of emerging technologies, providing insights into the best solutions for growth and innovation. By crafting a long-term IT strategy, businesses can ensure that their investments in technology are future-proof and aligned with industry trends.
Enhanced Cybersecurity: Cybersecurity threats are a growing concern for organizations of all sizes. IT consultants assess current security measures, identify vulnerabilities, and design robust cybersecurity strategies to protect data and infrastructure. They offer expertise in risk management, data privacy, and compliance, helping businesses safeguard their assets and build resilience against cyber threats.
Cost Optimization: IT consultancy services help businesses maximize their IT budgets by identifying areas for cost savings and operational efficiencies. Consultants can recommend technology solutions that reduce unnecessary spending, streamline workflows, and automate processes. By optimizing IT resources, businesses can achieve more with less, improving their return on investment.
Access to Specialized Expertise: Many businesses lack the resources or skills to manage certain technical aspects internally. IT consultants provide specialized knowledge and experience that may not be available in-house. Whether it's cloud migration, data analytics, or digital transformation, consultants bring industry-specific expertise that enhances project outcomes.
Improved Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery: IT consultancy services also focus on business continuity planning, ensuring that companies are prepared for potential disruptions. By designing effective disaster recovery and backup solutions, consultants help businesses maintain critical operations during unexpected events, minimizing downtime and protecting against data loss.
The Consultancy Process
The consultancy process typically begins with a thorough assessment of a company’s existing IT infrastructure and goals. Consultants evaluate everything from network architecture to software systems and security measures, identifying areas that need improvement. They then develop a tailored strategy, often prioritizing quick-win initiatives that yield immediate value while planning for long-term needs.
Once the strategy is in place, IT consultants guide the implementation process, ensuring that changes are seamlessly integrated into the organization. This stage often includes training staff, monitoring outcomes, and making adjustments as needed. Post-implementation support, such as ongoing maintenance and performance evaluations, ensures that IT systems continue to align with business needs over time.
Conclusion
IT consultancy services are invaluable for businesses looking to stay ahead in a competitive, technology-driven world. By offering strategic guidance, specialized expertise, and customized solutions, IT consultants help organizations overcome challenges and make the most of their technology investments. From cybersecurity to cost optimization, IT consultancy empowers businesses to achieve efficient operations, enhanced security, and sustainable growth. Embracing IT consultancy services isn’t just about adopting new technology; it’s about leveraging the right technology to drive meaningful results and secure a successful future.

How (and why) Biden should overcome the Supreme Court to end the debt showdown
’m coming to the HowTheLightGetsIn festival in HAY-ON-WYE with my novel Red Team Blues:
Sun (May 28), 1130AM: The AI Enigma
Mon (May 29), 12PM: Danger and Desire at the Frontier
I’m at OXFORD’s Blackwell’s on May 29 at 7:30PM with Tim Harford.
Then it’s Nottingham, Manchester, London, Edinburgh, and Berlin!
Is it legal for Congress to default on the US national debt? It depends on who you ask. There are a ton of good legal arguments for and against, so perhaps it comes down to what the (degraded, corrupt, illegitimate, partisan) Supreme Court says?
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/04/opinion/biden-administration-debt-republican.html
Put in those terms, it seems like the game was over before it began. Biden should just surrender, hand the most extreme wing of the (degraded, corrupt, illegitimate, authoritarian) Republican Party whatever it wants, even if doing so will push Biden’s approval rating even lower, dangerously close to the next federal election.
In this telling, the Republicans have already won. The decision to let the GOP steal three Supreme Court seats, combined with the decision not to end the debt ceiling charade when Dems had the majorities to do so, means that from now on, we live in the GOP’s shithole country, where the only “freedoms” that matter are the freedom to control others’ bodily autonomy and gender expression; the freedom to exploit labor; the freedom to censor ideas that challenge white nationalist, imperialist messages; and the freedom to menace with open-carry assault weapons:
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/19/opinion/republican-legislatures-abortion-trangender-education.html
In other words, we’re screwed. Might as well dig a hole, climb inside, and pull the dirt in on top of us.
Fuck that.
There are clear majorities in support of the Build Back Better agenda, and even for the watered down Machin Synematic Universe version we got through the Infrastructure Bill. If the Dems could mobilize voters — by convincing them that they were committed to doing things rather than capitulating — they could win strong majorities in 2024. Even in the gerrymandered, antimajoritarian America, electoral wins are possible — they just require overwhelming turnout, rather than the 50.00001% “victories” favored by “data-driven” Democratic consultants (victories that leave the party incapable of governing, and let monsters like Joe Manchin hold the entire nation hostage).
Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe doing things won’t mobilize voters. But if we’re already going to stipulate that without significant majorities, the real President of the United States is the three-headed monster (Gorsuch, Thomas, and Roberts), and the billionaires who yank their chains, then what do we have to lose?
There are a lot of things that Biden could try to get through the debt ceiling crisis without giving up on the promises he made to the American people and the programs the American Congress passed. Here’s a couple interesting ones, courtesy of Brad DeLong:
“The Federal Reserve might simply record a negative balance in the Treasury account,” then create an “overdraft” account and pay the US’s obligations out of it;
The Fed could tell retail banks trying to clear government checks that the checks didn’t clear, and the banks could tell their depositors, “ your Treasury check has bounced, but do not worry, we have credited your account, anyway, and will handle this, and please be very grateful to us.”
https://braddelong.substack.com/p/debt-ceiling-what-are-e-fallback
Of course, there are lots of other possibilities: Biden could issue an Executive Order to the effect that the Debt Ceiling violates the 14th Amendment. Or that it violates the Contracts Clause. Or he could order the Treasury to start issuing coupon-free bonds. Or he could just mint the coin:
https://www.theverge.com/2023/5/23/23734654/government-debt-default-trillion-dollar-platinum-coin
Yes, each of these would end up in front of the (degraded, corrupt, illegitimate, partisan) Supreme Court, who would very likely strike them down.
But writing for The American Prospect, Ryan Cooper argues that this could still be sound tactics:
https://prospect.org/economy/2023-05-25-democrats-fear-supreme-court/
If Biden does something about the debt default, and the Supremes block it, then the default is their fault. What’s more, it’s a mess they absolutely do not want to get into, like deciding which of the US’s creditors will and won’t get paid when they sue over the default. And if the court won’t do it, will they give the president the power to “just pick and choose what gets paid? That would give him a de facto line-item veto over the entire budget, and the Court has already ruled that a law explicitly giving him that power is unconstitutional”:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinton_v._City_of_New_York
Basically, if the Supreme Court kills Biden’s attempt to resolve the budget crisis, then it becomes the Supreme Court’s problem, as everyone owed a federal payment “say, Social Security beneficiaries or military contractors,” brings a case — “There would be tens of millions of such potential litigants.”
So what should Biden do?
Call their bluff.
First, mint the coin. If the court strikes that down, issue coupon-free bonds. If the court strikes that down, declare debt ceilings to violate the 14th Amendment. If the court strikes that down, declare it to violate the Contracts Clause. Keep doing it. Throw in every solution including the kitchen sink — but never give into the GOP’s demand for Biden to violate his promise to the American people and unilaterally tear up laws establishing programs that make our lives better.
This is what Lincoln did when the Supreme Court blocked his attempts to end slavery. It’s what FDR did when they blocked the New Deal. The court doesn’t have an army, it can’t force its decisions on the American people. It doesn’t have a bureaucratic workforce and it can’t take over the administrative branch — hell, they don’t even have the keys to the office buildings.
The Supreme Court’s power comes from its legitimacy, not force of arms, and while they may not act like it, the Supremes know in their bones that without legitimacy, they are nothing:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/03/25/consequentialism/#dotards-in-robes
The justices in stolen seats have made it clear that they consider themselves to be “a de facto super-legislature that rules in favor of its own partisan policy objectives based on tendentious up-is-down reasoning or no reasoning at all.” This is an illegitimate proposition.
The Supreme Court can’t get any less legitimate. If Biden were to ignore the Supremes and make good law in the teeth of their pronouncements, it couldn’t make the situation any worse than it is today. The Supremes have set themselves against labor law, against climate resiliency, against bodily autonomy, against political accountability, against the rule of law itself. We should not — we must not — cede the power to overrule democratically elected lawmakers and the will of the people.
As Cooper says, Biden should tell the Supremes to go pound sand and then “raise holy hell in speeches and the press to make clear the grotesque irresponsibility of what is happening”:
Here’s an institution trying to cause a completely pointless national default, destroying untold jobs, businesses, and the credit rating of the country, whose elite members are all unelected, where five members of the majority were appointed by a president who took office after losing the popular vote, and one of whom occupies a blatantly stolen seat. Here’s an institution that has struck down anti-corruption laws by the bushel and is openly rolling in oligarch graft like Scrooge McDuck, while declaring itself to be immune from oversight. All that would add to the political pressure on the justices.
If Biden can’t do well for the American people they they will not turn out in the massive majorities that Democrats need to get minimal majorities. If Biden can’t do well for the American people, then Biden — who would lose an election to either Ron DeSantis or Donald Trump if it were called today — will turn America’s predators loose on its people for at least four more years:
https://jacobin.com/2023/05/2024-presidential-election-2016-donald-trump-joe-biden/
And let’s face it, it’ll be Trump. DeSantis is dead in the water. The GOP is the party of out-of-control, swivel-eyed loons who’ve been whipped into a terrorized frenzy by an evil, crapulent senescent Australian billionaire and his freak henchmen, like the taint-tanning frozen food failson. They aren’t going to elect “smart Trump.” They like “stupid Trump” (AKA “Trump”) too much.
Catch me on tour with Red Team Blues in Hay-on-Wye, Oxford, Manchester, Nottingham, London, and Berlin!

The mother of one of the Nottingham stabbings victims has said killers can “get away with murder” after a report recommended the Government consider overhauling homicide laws.
Emma Webber said it was “abhorrent” that a murder charge against her son’s killer, Valdo Calocane, was not pursued.
A review into the case has concluded that prosecutors were right to accept a manslaughter plea from the 32-year-old on the basis of diminished responsibility.
But the report called for the Government to consider introducing three tiers of homicide which would mean that people with mental illness who kill could still be convicted of murder.
Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar, both 19, along with school caretaker Ian Coates, 65, were killed by paranoid schizophrenic Calocane in a series of knife attacks in Nottingham in June last year.
Mrs Webber said the families of the victims were “disappointed but not entirely surprised”.
She added: “The overall outcome I think until the law changes in this country, a diminished responsibility charge and plea means that murderers can get away with murder.
“We’ve never disputed Calocane’s mental health problems but I would say at the moment in this country, if you commit murder and you’ve got mental health issues then it’s very unlikely that you’re actually going to be tried for murder.”
Dr Sanjoy Kumar, father of Grace, said: “I think the first question you have to ask... is can a paranoid schizophrenic commit murder in this country? Because it seems to me that you can’t and that’s impossible for us to understand.”
Calocane pleaded guilty to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility in January and was given an indefinite hospital order.
But following concerns raised by the victim’s families, His Majesty’s Crown Prosecution Inspectorate has reviewed the decision to accept the plea.
While the report found that prosecutors were right to accept the manslaughter charge in Calocane’s case, it concluded that the Government should now consider overhauling current homicide laws. Inspectors said the Government should reconsider a recommendation made by the Law Commission in 2006 that called for three tiers of homicide to be introduced, including first degree murder, second degree murder – which would include diminished responsibility – and manslaughter.
Victims’ families felt ‘secondary’ to process
The inspectorate also concluded that the victims families should have been better supported by the CPS.
It found that the families felt “secondary” to the process and that they had not been properly consulted.
Chief Insp Anthony Rogers said: “It is unimaginable having to deal with the death of a loved one under such horrific circumstances, but having to deal with the criminal justice system at a time of heartbreak and grief adds a further dimension of challenge.
“To better support victims and increase public trust, we call on the government to consider amending the homicide law, review the support provided to victims of crime in serious cases such as this, and provide greater clarity about the role of victims in the criminal justice system.”
Stephen Parkinson, the director of Public Prosecutions at the CPS, said: “In tragic and complex circumstances such as these, the CPS has difficult decisions to make, but must always act with independence and professionalism. I believe that our team did so in this case, and with considerable dedication and commitment.”
It has previously emerged that Calocane was wanted by police at the time of the killings in relation to an assault on a police officer in September 2021, who was attempting to have him sectioned.
Calocane had been due to appear in court in August 2022 and a warrant, which was still outstanding in June 2023, had been issued for his arrest.
Following his sentencing, it also emerged that on May 5, 2023, while Calocane was working at Arvato Supply Chain Solutions, at a warehouse near East Midlands Airport, he assaulted two security guards.
The business reported the incident the same day, and Leicestershire Police attended but Calocane was no longer there.
