#HappyBirthdayElvisPresley: Happy Birthday to the “King of Rock & Roll”, Elvis Presley!! Today (1/8/19) would have been Presley’s 84th Birthday! To this day, he continues to make an impact with his music through his legions of fans, musical tributes, festivals,& even impersonations. This past Saturday evening (1/5/19), I attended the annual Elvis Birthday Bash at @hangaronthehudson featuring an excellent musical tribute to Presley by local group, “Johnny Rabb’s Big Band” Ft. Tommy Love on guest vocals. It was certainly a birthday party and musical tribute that was certainly fit for the “King of Rock & Roll”! Be sure to attend this annual event next year at The Hangar On The Hudson or even catch The Lustre Kings’ tribute to Presley this month at a local venue near you! Happy Birthday Elvis Presley! #MyMusicMonday: I was surprised and sad to hear about the news of Gregg Allman's passing this past Saturday (5/27/2017). I enjoyed listening to his musical performances from "The Allman Brothers Band" on the radio/CD, as well as their top-hit songs being covered by many local Upstate NY bands from the Capital Region area. Rest In Peace Gregg Allman. Thank you for what you had accomplished for music for many, many decades!! Here's a partial clipping of "Ramblin' Man", an Allman Brothers Band tune being covered by an up and coming local country band, "Kyle Bourgault Band", being performed as part of the "4th Annual Dustin Mele Memorial Concert" held at Brown's Revolution Hall in Troy, NY, Saturday, March 4,2017. I was surprised and sad to read about the passing of Gregg Allman, a founding member of "The Allman Brothers" this past Saturday afternoon (5/27/2017). I enjoyed listening to the band's music on the radio/CD, as well as listening to their chart topping songs being covered by local bands in the Capital Region (Bands such as "Blue Hand Luke", "Kyle Bourgault Band", "Emerald City", "E. B. Jeb", my father's band "Heat" (on a CD), "Midnight Riders", "Soul Sky", local music jams, etc.). Rest In Peace Gregg Allman!! Thank you for what you and your band had accomplished for all these years!! #ThrowbackThursday: Last Thursday (3/30/2017), my friend and I attended "Rocktopia: A Classical Evolution", at the Palace Theatre in Albany, NY!! "Rocktopia", featuring world class musicians, vocalists, and a local orchestra (featuring the Albany Symphony Orchestra in this video), join forces to honor the fusion of classic rock music and classical music in their two musical performance sets. As part of this clip, Tony Vincent (vocalist for "Rocktopia", a previous contender of the second season of "The Voice"), paid homage to historical figures, musicians, and other celebrities that had contributed to the American society and beyond who have passed on through his cover of "We Are The Champions" by Queen. Not only was this concert for my friend and I entertaining and fun to attend, it was interesting to witness and hear how classic rock bands/musicians (Queen, Journey, Led Zeppelin, to name a few) were influenced by classical composers to create some of their hit-songs that at times, used an orchestra or string instruments to make their songs feel complete.
