thinking about how much more it must have wounded eris for cassian to specifically call him a coward after enduring his father’s torture to protect the night court in acosf because he heard feyre call beron a coward during the high lords meeting in acowar (see also: he will never be able to escape his blood, he will never be able to outrun who he became to survive under beron, he will never not carry the scars of being the cruelest high lord’s favored son. and when he looks in the mirror, hasn’t he always, always seen the features beron shared with him before those of his mother?)

I present you with a hypothetical, it goes as follows:
A man sees the world only in shadows, and understands it only as so. If he stands close to another, their shadows eclipse. Does he believe the two shadows belong to the same thing? Does he believe to be close to something is to become it? Does he fear what moving apart from that shadow might do? Does he not know fully what he fears, in moving away, forgetting-or not understanding-what he is when he isn't a shadow of something else?
Is he a fool for this? Do you take him for a fool? Answer me.

Me, playing BG3: Gortash staged a mind-controlled coup! Perfect political intrigue.
Me, looking up the politics of Baldur's Gate: Oh this city's government is falling apart at the SEAMS.
#it's no wonder gortash took over with such unanimous support#do you know what that city's been through#the politics go like this: council of four (dukes. includes archduke) is the ruling decision-maker#the archduke only holds more power than the others by means of breaking stalemates#ravengard was in elturel bc another duke (vanthampur) staged for him to go there so she could take grand duke#she's dead now#dillard portys was the former grand duke before handing it over to ravengard and stepping down to normal duke#he's either a spineless coward or falling into senility. maybe both. hard to tell#gortash says his wits are failing. also apparently he's too easily swayed to be a good pawn#then stelmane. the only one with sense. was murdered#under the co4 is the parliament of peers. that's 50 people with 12 of them from the lower city and the rest either#nobility guildmasters or retired adventurers#they propose things to the co4 for review and convene daily#those are the bulk of the patriars in gortash's coronation. some of them are so petty and/or shallowly dumb#like one of them is definitely falling for an mlm scam in-game#different group: city officers. five people that serve the co4#there's the harbormaster that looks over imports and tariffs and stuff#there's the high constable and master of walls: he governs the watch. you know the watch that was replaced by the steel watch? that watch#so with those blowing up that's a great addition to the security of the city#there's the master of drains and underways that oversees all the water functionality of the city. pipes and cellars and stuff#the position's not easily gained bc it requires expertise the patriars don't usually have. you know who held that position?#vanthampur. the co4 member who shafted ravengard. the dead one. there's no master of drains in baldur's gate#there's the master of cobbles who handles roads and buildings. honestly that guy has got his work cut out for him after the netherbrain#and then the purse master who does all the financial stuff and invests city funds and distributes pay and collects taxes#this is BEFORE we talk about anything to do with the guildhall. or the zhentarim. or handling the refugee influx.#or the cults of bane and bhaal and shar that are sitting pretty in the city's gut#or the 7000 VAMPIRE SPAWN???#to speak nothing about the ILLITHID ATTACK and SUDDEN CEREMORPHOSIS#anyways. baldur's gate as a city is royally fucked#bg3

Honestly I don't know if I'm remembering it wrong due to sleep deprivation, but out of everything in TOTK one of my favorite little details is that Zelda's eyes in her Divine Noodle (affectionate) form when Demon King's flames hit or graze her tremble a little, more so around the pupils than the iris
The implications are absolutely delicious when you think about it, either it's an expression of deep seated, primal fear which she would probably feel as a dragon even if her main instinct is to help Link, it makes sense she'd feel distressed when faced with a bigger predator if we assume the dragons actually work like wild animals (I mean have we looked at Demon King's full size and length? He absolutely overshadows her and he's clearly going in for the kill, what with that initial bite, he's clearly not only gunning for Link and for Hyrule but also for her specifically), because Zelda by nature is not a warrior, she will fight for her people and to defend her people but she's not one to start the conflict, she's not one to HUNT, so when faced with something actively doing so it makes sense she'd be a little afraid, just because you are made to fight the divine threat from birth doesn't mean you can't fear death in the process('Courage is not the absence of fear but the will to rise against it even when you're afraid' and all that), immortality or not and trust me I'm getting to that part-
And arguably the more interesting implication: that dragons can feel pain/get hurt from other beings in a similar status, which also puts their immortality into question. Because that little twitch can also be because the flames actually hurt her.
One thing I always found interesting in TOTK is the dragon skeletons deep down in the Depths, they're parallel with the Leviathan skeletons, sure, but the fact that the dragons that we know can come and go from the depths and that there are actual skeletons there makes me look at them side by side and think "Oh those are dragons" rather than Leviathans, which begs the question: what could have killed them if dragons are immortal and can live for such long periods of time? What could have killed them when none of our weapons (including the Master Sword mind you) can't hurt Naydra, Dinraal, Farosh and Zelda in a way that matters?
I think the best answer in this case is given to us by Zelda's reaction (assuming I'm not wrong and didn't just imagine it due to sleep deprivation) to the Demon King's flames.
Maybe, just maybe, what caused them to die was likely another dragon. Which means that dragons can actually die, just not through age or natural means, but have to actively be killed through the right means/being for it to stick. Which also tracks with a lot of divine lore in LOZ in general, Demise/Ganondorf only being able to be brought low by the Master Sword wielded by someone who posseses the Hero's Spirit (or that has become worthy of it is we see in Wind Waker) because it's quite literally a divine blade, Hylia actively giving up her immortal form to become a mortal but still slumbering/existing in a separate realm outside of time can also be considered a form of divine death, not to mention Bellum being in the process of killing the Ocean King in Phantom Hourglass. Divine beings have always had an element of mortality to them in LOZ, and it's not too much of a stretch to think that pattern might hold true in TOTK.
(Personally I think maybe the dragons we know might have killed the others in a territory/route dispute, if we go with the fact that a person loses themselves when they consume a secret stone and is guided by their base instincts/whatever goal they had before becoming a dragon, I don't think territory disputes would be all that far fetched, or some other goal which would motivate possible aggression.)
Although there's also the other possibility to consider: we get the armor set of the wild on the heads of those skeletons in TOTK, and we know for a FACT there was a hero before BOTW/TOTK Link, not only through the Ancient Hero's Aspect (which I have so many thoughts/headcanons about) but also through the tapestry in BOTW no matter what the heck happened to the lore in between games, you can still work with the information that there was a hero before BOTW/TOTK Link, and possibly one even before that one if we assume the armor set in the depths isn't from the Original Calamity Hero.
What I'm pitching here basically is, Original Calamity Link/another possible Link was likely a dragon slayer (not uncommon among Links, but how many Links killed an actual possibly divine dragon?), and possibly the one to kill the dragons in the depths and that maybe, just maybe we should have a game one day or a manga which either clarifies or debunks that- wait I know it sounds insane but listen stop walking away-
(Also if it's indeed a sign that Zelda feels pain it honestly ramps up Wild's/TOTK Link's motivation to kill Ganondorf WAY up because I too would want to eviscerate anyone who hurt Zelda even if she can't outwardly show it.
Also also- divine flame scars on Zelda where the gloom fueled fire grazed/hit her in her dragon form, you wouldn't be able to see it normally, but once she turns back into hylian they're there as another showing of how her time as a dragon will always stick and haunt her.)

sometimes it really does feel like awakening walked so inquisition could crawl
#plot-wise mostly#imagine a game designed like inquisition but it's awakening......#you have advisors and a war table would make sense and you've gotta get a bunch of recruits#but it still makes sense to be doing the bulk of the work yourself because you're the commander (and arl) and you're rebuilding the ranks#i wish you could mod inquisition as well as you can mod origins because i would absolutely commit myself to remaking awakening in dai#da#dao#dai#personal#i occasionally see people talking about how cool an origins remake would be and if they included awakening in that it'd be SO cool#and amgarrak would also make sense as part of awakening as like. a similar kinda thing to the descent#witch hunt not so much because you can leave at the end. i guess it'd be better postgame like trespasser#ive thought about what i could do with origins as a dai mod because you've already got redcliffe#but modding dai is so hard beyond superficial dialogue or texture changes#they dont have a broodmother model tho. and i dont think they have anything even remotely similar#nor desire demons. cowards#anyway im not saying all this because it's something im planning. it's absolutely not. im not getting into dai modding it sucks#but back to the actual post.#like it would MAKE SENSE that you're collecting requisitions and that you dont have a team doing all the exploring for you#you still find quarries and logging stands because you basically do that for wade anyway#the blackmarsh and wending wood could be really cool as larger and more involved areas (as long as they actually had stuff to do)#so would kal'hirol. i just mean in terms of open outdoor environments#vigil's keep could have more than one room lmao#they could have done that in the original too but also.. it was an expansion not a full game. im more thinking about its potential#how would you go about expanding the plot to make a full game then?#i guess each of the three major quests would have to have more going on and also have more side quests in each area#(as long as they're actually interesting and not just miscellaneous collection quests)#they could add romances but then....what do you do with anders? they couldnt really make him romancable for both hawke and the warden-cmd#if you increased the size of awakening you'd probably add more companions i guess? the main games all have ~9

the version of tashigi that lives in my head is soooo much cooler than anything oda could ever hope to write about women. oda doesnt understand her I Do Though
#the smoker and tashigi episodes that live in my mind. oda wishes. he wishes he were me#this is true of every woman in 1pc but its so frustrating watching any scene with tashigi bc like#yes shes clumsy scatterbrained etc etc those are fine those can stay bc through all that shes. SUPPOSED to be competent. shes been /said/#to defeat strong opponents and theres a /reason/ shes smokers right hand but odas allergic to letting women fight onscreen. bc hes a coward#im taking her away from him im taking away his tashigi rights. Girl You Are So Cool To Me#this is like. gdjgffgjdhf between tashigi and kuina oda does this thing where hes like. ''what if i almost engaged with being a woman in a#heavily gendered society in an interesting way and i /talked/ about doing so but then never follow up on that. so rather than creating a#story that includes gender norms for the purpose of questioning them i just /talked/ about questioning them but then reinforced them with my#starring cast of characters bc im incapable of writing a woman who isnt Dainty. what then.“ and what happens then is i Bite him#and by 'allergic to letting women fight onscreen' i mean. women can only fight women and if theyre NOT fighting women they still have to be#Elegant or Feminine about it and occasionally a woman could defeat a Man™ but shes always gotta be Pretty about it. nami complains about#fighting and robin Only Slaps People Bc She Doesnt Like Punching :( and tashigi (whos fighting style is more traditionally. yknow. Fighty)#doesnt get to Do that often or when she Does she gets put out of commission early and its. Bro You Are So Close#head in my hands. 1pc is good i love it dont get me wrong but i could make it Better

Going to therapy is great because you can rant to your therapist about the untapped potential of Star Wars Sequel Characters for ten minutes and they are a captive audience forced to hear your very reasonable valid points and you can do this instead of talking about your issues hope this helps <3

anyway the only version of jason going non-lethal that makes sense is the version he brings up in #975 where he makes clear that he's going against his moral compass and his convictions on what he thinks is right explicitly so that he can maintain a connection with his family. none of this mealy mouthed 'jason realizes Killing Is Bad' thing (i'm of the opinion that jason's kinda the direct opposite of bruce in that where it would be too easy for the latter to start killing and not stop jason can kill and obviously has but the easier option for him is to just not do it and he does it because that's how his philosophy works) but jason admitting that he's taking the easy way out and being selfish at the expense of his own moral code so that he can still be a part of the batfamily. it's the only thing that makes sense to me.
