Article by Gian Paolo Ormezzani, published on La Stampa on the 24th of august 1987, in honor of Didier's death, translated by me.
Didier Pironi was first and foremost a young man to be envied, envied ferociously we could say. Destiny had seen fit to beat his character to a pulp, crushing it under the weight of many misfortunes, torturing it endlessly. Quite the evil thing, which causes great suffering in the feelings of those who had been able to appreciate, in this boy from a very good family and social standing, the real man that had wanted and managed to do better than his lucky beginnings. Pironi was born in a rich family, from a father from Friuli who had a good business in the field of construction and commerce. Pironi lived in Saint-Tropez, and had been driving powerful speedboats and fast cars since he was young. He decided to become a grand prix driver, and that was easy from the start, or at least easier, and he could make a job out of it. Young, handsome, apparently happy. As happy as he should be, one might say, considering what life had been giving him: fame, which is the best sauce to pour on richness, due to the glory reached in what is possibly the most exalting setting of them all, Formula 1. And the call from Ferrari, in which he had managed to cut himself a space next to the already mythical Villeneuve. Didier was handsome, blonde, almost blessed. He got married, and of course it was a gorgeous woman (who would have later felt the call to “fly free” in the jet set, a normal occurrence in certain settings for some people). He won races. But he was so pleasant that no one dared felt envy towards him. He looked as if he was constantly busy repaying the debt he had by being born in a certain place, in a certain family. He was kind, humble even. When a young french doctor arrived in Formula 1 and asked for a guinea pig for his experiments on heartbeats during races, Didier Pironi was the first in line to get his chest covered in electrodes while almost all other drivers refused this small obligation. He lived and endured a deep rivalry with Villeneuve, a great driver already pampered by the myth that he was and the attention he received at Ferrari. He hurt himself, Pironi, and severely too, three months after Villeneuve’s death. Someone said he had risked a lot to show something. An important member of the tribe of those who feel the wind on their face, of those who have a great fire inside them, Didier had decided to become world champion in something. While the doctors debated on his leg to be rebuilt, he went on the water. Maybe someone will say that he was looking for death. But for us, he was looking for life, that special life that destiny had first assigned him and then taken away from him, and that he wanted to take back, even in small pieces.

Human AU for ABL/Silk and Stone
So, I recently realized that a lot of my human designs for my bugs... are kind of all over the place, outfit wise at least. So how do I make that work? Well, boredom at work is a beautiful thing, and so I've come up with a background to explain all that. (I'm definitely not going to turn this into a full-on Au because I've got my hands full already, but it's a fun experiment.) Anyways, here's what I got so far:
THE WORLD AT LARGE/ANT ISLAND
The world is set in a post-post apocalypse, a la “Nausicaa” or “Breath of the Wild.” There’s little in the way of advanced technology or large civilizations left, but people have done what people do, and have rebuilt. There are little pockets of humanity alive and well scattered throughout the healing world.
Amber Isle is one such pocket. It is a small island nation ruled by a monarchy, and has been so ever since it was first settled centuries ago. The island kingdom consists of little more than a single city and a few scattered villages and farms, with a population barely topping ten-thousand people. It survived the apocalypse pretty much unscathed, as It was too tiny for anyone to notice or bother with.
Now it's doing quite well for itself, considering the state of the world, and is considered prosperous. It mostly subsists on farming, fishing, and mining, though its people have a flair for the artistic, and its capital (and only) city is a remarkably beautiful place.. Its culture is aggressively traditional, and even more so after the apocalypse. Anything new - especially in the way of technology - is looked on with suspicion, seen as a waste of time or even a sign of arrogance. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is the prevailing wisdom of many of the leaders, one they enforce.
Tech-wise, it’s hanging around the late 19th/early 20th century, and that’s being generous. There’s a decent amount of heavy machinery around (such as tractors), but most of it is slapped together or salvaged, often highly inefficient and far from reliable.
HOPPER
The kingdom has been doing well for itself for maybe a century or two, until a gang of pirates/raiders land and pillage it regularly. Eventually the monarchy reached a deal with them, where they'd offer tribute every year to keep them away, consisting of food, money, booze, cloth, fuel, metal, and whatever else they demand.
“Captain” Hopper leads a gang of cutthroats known as “The Swarm”, who get around using jerry rigged speedboats and jetskis. They sail out from their mothership (A likely stolen cargo ship turned floating pirates den) to collect tributes from the surrounding islands and coastal towns. Well, the smart ones who have struck a deal with the gang. The Swarm will pillage and loot the ones too stupid to not agree to their very reasonable terms.
Most of the gang came from a small rural county far, far to the south of here, all leaving their homeland for one reason or another. Some had committed crimes terrible enough to earn them banishment. Some simply were lured by the promise of an easy life of hedonism and violence. And some, like Hopper’s young brother, simply had nowhere else to go.
DOT
Dot is still adopted into the royal family. One night, a massive yacht/small cruise ship was caught in a horrible storm offshore of Amber Isle. A team was assembled to go out to it, including Flik. Best case scenario, they're a rescue party. Worst case...a salvage team.
When they reach it, they see the ship is practically destroyed. It's already sinking, and absolutely riddled with holes - and not all from the storm by the looks of it. This ship was attacked. The team moves fast to try and find any survivors, but all they find is death… save a single sailor. The man is delirious and yells at them to find the royal family.
The royal family's cabin is easy to find, but it's been absolutely destroyed. Half the room is missing, blown away by what looks like the blast from a cannon. There’s no sign of the royal family, save for a small though elaborate empty crib in the in-tact corner of the cabin. It’s been tipped over on its side, likely by one of the crashing waves tossing the ship about.
But it looks like it only tipped over recently.
Flik is the first scout to enter the room. He hears crying from far below, and his heart sinks. A baby! She's fallen into the water!
The water that is teeming with sharks, drawn here by the smell of death and the many sinking bodies of the late crew.
Disregarding all personal safety and sanity, Flik dives into the water, leaping from the hole in the cabin the child fell through. He swims out to her, adrenaline coursing through him as he thrashes through the raging waters. By a miracle, he manages to grab the tiny girl, before swimming to one of the small boats the scouting team used. With a herculean effort, he lifts the baby up to one of the men aboard, before he’s hauled in himself. He’s half-drowned, but alive, and so is she. A heavy tarp is tossed around both him and the child, the best the scouting party can do to
Around the girl’s wrist is a tiny, golden bracelet, bearing a crest no one aboard recognized. They didn’t know what dynasty it represented, but it was obvious the girl was royalty. A tiny princess, saved from the sea, and likely the last member of her house.
The ship shudders, and obviously there's no salvaging it. They've got minutes before it's fully taken under. The scouting party, the rescued sailor, and the baby princess are all loaded up, and return to shore, Flik holding the girl to his chest the whole while while keeping her wrapped up in his coat.
The royal family takes her in as one of their own, adopting the little princess. As she had no name of her own, she was christened Dorothy by her adopted mother. Her name was often shortened to Dot however, mostly due to the immense amount of freckles she had all over her - a trait almost unseen in Amber Isle, and one that earned the poor princess more than her fair share of bullying. Being different has its price.
For his bravery, Flik earns himself an accommodation from the queen, one that, among other things, grants him a high degree of trust when it comes to the little princess, and he becomes a part of her life, with her growing up and viewing him as an older brother or father figure - a role he is all too happy to play. (It’s the ending of “Seed”, let’s just cut to the chase =p)

QSMP Fanfic Recs
(qjaiden and qroier focused) (mostly qjaiden)
The Spider Web In The Corner - Mothsdotcom Summary:
Jaiden sits in Bobby's room. Oh how it use to be filled with life. Now the paintings done by small hands are collecting dust and cobwebs. She examines all the strokes on the canvases. Too scared to touch them as they might disappear forever if she did. One of the last things to remember her son by. She looks towards a corner of the room. A spider in it's web inhabits the space, it crawls delicately across the web before hiding in the crack of the wood plank. She remembers this corner, a happy memory floods her head. -- Or Jaiden reminisces on a specific memory of her happy family in Bobby's room
Night Flight - JayWritezForFun
Summary:
" No? You don't want to go on the speedboat? " Bobby shook his head. " Okay, Bicycles? " Bobby shook his head again. Jaiden was getting a little confused for a bit before she put Bobby down, seeing him run over to his drawer and pull out his pen and sketch paper. Immediately he wrote something and run over back to Jaiden as he held the sketchbook up for her to read. ' Fly ' it read. - Bobby then gets curious enough and wants to fly with Jaiden because she has wings, but Jaiden still had some injuries ever since the explosion of the wall from the first day of the QSMP How will this turn out for both of them?
A Drink Between Friends - acollectionofcuriouscontent
Summary:
Jaiden and Roier have both found themselves pulled on all sides by the approaching wedding and Cucurrucho’s tasks, but even they manage to find some peace in the storm with one another.
Aceptar. - Alewew_Souris
Summary:
“La muerte no es el final, es un inicio. Aquellos que se van, no nos abandonan. Jamas nos abandonan." Pero Missa esta aprendiendo y lo hace lento, asi que debe entender en el proceso que todos aceptan la muerte de forma diferente.
i brought a lighter - ThatGrayMushroom
Summary:
Jaiden shows Cellbit her house, they smoke, they talk.
I miss you even when you're here - Madison_Arden
Summary:
Jaiden has time travelled to the very beginnings of the island shortly after Festa Junina. She has to deal with travelling between the ghosts of her former family.
Family is Where the Heart Is - Anonymous [Note: you need to be logged in to view this fic]
Summary:
Jaiden curled her wings further into herself. Once upon a time, it was enough for her to imagine that it was a hug but nothing could ever compare to a Roier hug. She had gotten it for the past couple of months and it felt horrible to have gone so long without one. Roier was the best partner, and best dad to Bobby, and she couldn’t be more thankful to the island and to Bobby for bringing them together. But right now, she would give anything to get another Roier hug. Anything at all. -------------------- or: Jaiden's place on the server was with her family- her son Bobby and platonic partner Roier. But with Bobby gone, where does she stand with Roier?
la crianza - atthebell
Summary:
A series of drabbles on egg parenthood and what it means to love and care for something that is meant to die.
Prométeme - WhyB
Summary:
She never felt guilty about using her own things. If Jaiden decided, hey, today I’m going to take all of my supplies and risk building this stupid contraption that may or may not work, then she could do it knowing failure or not, she was the only one at fault. However, in the rush between taking care of Bobby and her sudden absence, she never got around to proper mining and ended up either behind the curve of everyone else in terms of tools, or being gifted them by Roier. When she fails, it’s Roier’s things she’s wasting. And that… feels awful. == OR; Jaiden is going to tell Roier and Bobby she's moving out. She ends up not doing that.
Gnaw - I_Fear_I_Fell
Summary:
Jaiden swallowed. Looked into Roier’s face: stared into the openness she could see there and tried to meet it with her own. “Do you ever wish you had a different partner? Instead of me?” Or: Jaiden struggles to find her place. Roier helps.
curious, furious (i feel alone) - bravehearteds
Summary:
In the dark, Spreen almost looks like someone she could trust. Jaiden wonders just what kind of revelations the break of dawn will bring forth. (After Bobby dies, Jaiden finds understanding in an unlikely place. It's not solace, but it's not nothing either. That has got to count for something.)

I feel like talking about music. I'm gonna post 7 albums that describe me. Shit that shaped my worldview, reflects my aesthetics, and all that other stuff. Puttin it under read more so no one's dash gets clogged.
ZUU - DENZEL CURRY.
I'm a huge fan of southern Hip Hop. It's dense and eclectic and always so full of life and culture, everything from Andre 3000's thick Atlanta twang on Intl Players Anthem to DJ Paul's production on any given Three 6 Mafia project, it's just my shit. It all speaks to the state of living in the south and has made so much impact on the broader state of Hip Hop. especially in the modern day.
This album feels....so personal. Like coming back home and meeting up with an old friend and realizing you both still know that secret handshake you made up in middle school, or watching the emotional climax of a coming of age movie. I was as wild as I was loving in my youth, so tracks like Ricky and Speedboat and Shake 88 which reference everything from getting in fights in your high school Dickies and football hoodies to escaping hood life to spitting bars about neighborhood bad bitches. It just speaks to me and my experiences, It's always good to know there are other black dudes out there writing love letters and cautionary tales about the violent environments and close knit & loving cultures that surrounded them in their youths spent below the bible belt. I wish I'd had this album when I was 17.
2. VIVA LA COBRA - COBRA STARSHIP
I've been listening to Cobra Starship since I was about 15, and this album has never left my all time greats. It's so fucking fun, like an 18 year old stole his dad's credit card and drove up with his friends to hang in NYC with fake IDs. The bragging, slightly macho, slightly cynical, fun but not too stupid persona Gabe Saporta personifies on this album speaks to me so deeply and shaped me into the man I am today. He has the cynicism and self aware, sarcastic edge that only a former Punk making dance music could have.
3. THREE DAYS GRACE - THREE DAYS GRACE.
Around the age of 13 I was carrying a massive weight; some of it was dysphoria, some of it was internalized racism, some of it was just plain average shit that comes with the territory of being a child under capitalist patriarchy. I felt lost and misunderstood, until I found this album completely by accident. Tracks like Home and Drown spoke to my experiences with abuse and the intense bouts of willpower and self sufficiency that I knew I was capable of but didn't have the courage to act on. I'd put these songs on in my room and drift away, all the pressures my parents and friends and school had put on me just washing away. It was loud and raw and angry and fueled the newfound passion and teen rebellion that would make up the majority of my teens and shape my worldview in adulthood.
4. RUN THE JEWELS 2 - RUN THE JEWELS
The aggressive machismo on this album and the general fuckboy-isms of it all speak to me. Bars like "you want a whore in a white dress, I want a wife with a thong" and verses like "I got that dick in her mouth all day" are just standouts. Just laying everything out, speaking your mind, holding back no punches. The album also weaves in tracks about police brutality, class warfare, and the harsh reality of being pushed to do things you aren't proud of to make ends meet (Killer Mike has a bar about having to sell cocaine to a pregnant woman, and another about his wife being shot by police in front of his son.) I honestly can't see who wouldn't be changed after listening to this, or at least feel seen. It's a no skip banger from beginning to end, if you really wanna understand the essence of Jared, this is it.
5. SOUL GLO - DIASPORA PROBLEMS
Growing up a black kid who liked rock music was extremely taboo, back in the day. It earned you some level of alienation in both black and white dominated spaces. I'd always felt in between worlds; The gritty realism of Hip Hop spoke to me just as the maniacal, commanding essence of Rock and Metal did, and it seemed neither party wanted much to do with me.
Imagine my excitement in 2022 when I find out about Soul Glo, an all black Punk band from my town, who frequently scream their hearts out about everything from police brutality to fake friends to feeling ostracization and tokenization as a black Punk band, with absurd humor and such intense display of vulnerability unlike anything I'd seen before. Finally, I thought, a band that understands me. A band for guys like me.
6. MOBB DEEP - THE INFAMOUS
I got way too high on acid while solo tripping last year and spent a lot of that trip freaking the fuck out. Doom Metal was too much, looking in the mirror was too much, watching tv was too much, everything was just too fucking much.
Except for this record.
This record saved my life and got me into Rap music again. I've cried to it as many times as I've lifted and shaken my ass to it. Though I've never been involved in the street life-- especially not to the degree that Havoc and Prodigy lay claim to-- I grew up privy to it. My environment was incredibly violent. A lot of moralizing by mass media and white people of all backgrounds was lost on me; my father sold drugs to keep me fed and to put Christmas presents under the table, and he'd brought a couple of sex workers into the mix as well (all of whom were incredibly kind women), I felt if anything or anyone was failing, it was the justice system that put guys in these positions.
This album is fucking ruthless. The Jazz and Boom Bap elements add depth to it that I can't really say any other Jazz or Boom Bap rap album has done the same way since. It's also incredibly vulnerable at times. These guys have more nuance and versatility than any other rapper of their time, and it speaks to me as a black dude of working background and experience.
7. THE SLIM SHADY LP - EMINEM
Anyone who's followed me for more than a day knows how much I love Eminem. I think he's witty, charming, funny, and a really down to Earth dude, which probably sounds insane considering the amount of violence and bigotry he spews on the mic at any given time.
This album practically shaped my life and the way I internalize other people's opinions of me. As a kid, I grew up with a pretty abusive mom, and as such always felt the need to apologize or shrink in on myself just for existing. I hadn't really learned how to nurture the spirit until Eminem. The rage, the insanity, and the violence, was all a sheen for an album that truly told a story of how to power through life only trusting yourself and a few other insane, close friends, but most importantly to not let anything get you down and to simply not give a fuck (and to tell anyone who insists otherwise to get on their knees and suck it). The guy spoke real shit and had the credentials to prove it, he knew what he was about and made his dreams a reality, and that was awesome to me.

Peluda!Wind
The last Link in our Chain who hasn't gotten an inhuman version. I won't lie that it was DIFFICULT thinking what I could make Wind as the other choices either have not enough info or just didn't fit my idea.
Today I finally found one in the form of the Peluda (Spanish for Hairy One) or La Velue (Shaggy Beast in French). A fur covered serpentine like creature bearing poison tip spines can breathe fire and caused floods. Even though this creature originates in France, I'm using Peluda name as it's shorter and easier to remember.
Hatched from a strange egg his Grandma found outside her house one day. Wind instinctively took on a Hylian form just three weeks afterwards. His spines didn't grow in until he was 8 and they can be flattened against his back when not in use.
The effects of Wind's poison varies on how big the dosage is but it's instantaneous either way. Small: Hallucinations. Medium: Full body paralysis. Large: Calcification of all flesh.
His fur is sun blonde in color while his scales are a royal blue. Wind is a draconic long necked Peluda and is around the size of a large elephant at his current age in LU. His Hylian form has some Peluda traits such as a few small spines, some fur on his back, claws and sharp teeth.
Has difficulty swimming in Hylian form and can only doggy paddle since it's the closest to swimming in his true form. As a Peluda, he can outswim the fastest speedboat and catch up to horses quite quickly on land.
Everyone on Outset Island knows about Wind's true nature so they're quite protective of him. Anyone looking for the Shaggy Beast is always led on a wild goose chase especially since the Fishmen like Wind too. He sheds both scales and fur which is repurposed into different items for the islanders.
He doesn't shift into his true form much when off his home island especially around the King of Red Lions. Their first meeting was already awkward as he shifted back to his true form halfway through the Helmaroc King's sendoff and nearly crash into said ship.
Will sneeze fire so Wind often runs to some non-flammable location or place the instant he feels an itch. His tail will materialize with a harsh enough sneeze. Linebeck learned that bit the hard way as five seconds later he had to be fished out of the sea from a sudden tail slap.
Quite a few other people and races know about his true form such as the Goron, Rito, Koroks, Anouki, Yook, Linebeck, Tetra alongside her crew, etc. After the events of Phantom Hourglass, charms based on Wind's true form were made and seen as good luck charms. (Linebeck definitely started it.)
Once becoming apart of the Chain, Wind was actually nonchalant about his Peluda nature. Only Time and Warriors knew as the Sailor was less hesitant to use it during HW's events. He just kept it to himself until there was a situation that needed such power. Wind did scare the absolute shit out of any Downfall Era Zora dumb enough to drag him in the water before then.
He took on his Peluda nature when the group got stuck in the middle of a monster ridden sea too dangerous to sail any boat in. Wind was definitely a little shit about it even as he ferried the group to safety.
Hyrule had some issues interacting with the Sailor afterwards considering how hostile dragons were in his era. This just gave Wind more incentive to help the Traveller feel comfortable around the nicer members of the draconic species.
It isn't uncommon for a few Links to sneak a little nap on the Sailor's back as he can carry his fellow Chain members while they travel. If he's shedding, Wind lets the group use his shed fur and scales too. Items made from his fur are very durable, waterproof, fireproof but also cold resistant. Anything made from his scales is resistant to fire, ice and much more durable than the average counterpart.
Wild might've wanted to see what Wind could do in his true form once. Both were never allowed to be left alone together again afterwards. Just know Wind invented Hyrule's version of the Loch Ness Monster as a byproduct.
Overall, it felt like the Chain had gotten one sassy teenage Peluda instead of a sassy juvenile pirate. Warriors did try to ground Wind once. Captain found himself grounded by a large tail instead for horrible self care.
That's all I have for now! Until next time folks, I'll see you back in Hyrule!

So, surfing \o/
I've daydreamed about it since i was a kid, and had this romantic image of it from like kate b*sworth and r*ip girls, and watching televised competitions. And i honestly never imagined i would ever get to try - lessons are so expensive. I was shocked when my friend offered to teach me, and lent me a practice board. He was awesome, so patient, and answered all my silly questions. And hung out there in the water, 'pushing' the board when it was time for me to try and catch the wave (TRY lol i mostly failed).
But unlike a few years ago, when i got onto a dirt bike for the first time and suddenly discovered something i'd been missing my entire life, yesterday didn't quite live up to the daydream.
For one thing i underestimated how hard it would be for me. My friend who was teaching me said i was a natural but at no point did i feel any confidence on the board, it was mostly a blur of panic lol. I was also shamefully freezing - im used to cold, i prefer the cold here in LA, and back in seattle the water was NEVER warm and they used to make us go swimming at like 5am in 60 degree water. I felt like i should have been used to cold water. But no, lol, instead i was so cold i was shivering. And trying to ignore it, but eventually it got so bad that my friend noticed and gently suggested that we take a break (and then i was like no once more, and then face planted, and popped up and said NO ONE MORE that didnt count)
When we finally did make it to shore we sat there for at least an hour - i pulled the wetsuit top off and bundled up in the towel, and i just couldnt get warm, it was ridiculous -_- the chill went down into my bones like it used to during seattle rain. I was so embarrassed. I dont think i stopped shivering until i got home and bundled up in my chair in the pengu*n's jersey - which its been too hot to even think about putting that on for months now.
I do want to try again - i need to work on my arms a bit i think lmao. But i also asked my friend if could just hang out on the beach and watch him and his buddies surf while i brought my sketchbook which, if im REALLY honest, is probably more my speed. When I was younger I probably would have had a better chance at this.
Thats the thing about all these extreme sports - skiing we could never afford when i was a kid, surfing was over 2 hrs away by car and ferry and required all that equipment, i was quite good at wakeboarding but it was my friends who owned the wakeboard and the speedboat so my opportunities were limited by whenever they invited me, and despite dirt bike riding feeling as if it was the song 'daylight' come to life i took one look at the monthly price tag this 'hobby' would cost and quickly assessed it was out of reach lol.
I actually did vaguely ask my friend about that - his passion for surfing. Cause listening to him describe it, and how dedicated he is to it, made me realize its how i feel about art. (my friend was scandalized when i said this was the first time i made it to the beach all summer, and that i hardly spent any time going out in LA, and that i hadn't been to any of the theme parks since moving here - he was like 'what have you been doing?' - and the answer is, sadly, just sitting in my room drawing mostly). I will give up all the 'hobby's in the world in order to afford more time to draw. Wish my dedication showed a bit more in my skill level :/
#Journal shit#He's also apparently a hockey AND a pens fan so i might actually have a friend to go with when the team plays in LA this year?#Which i cant believe it never came up in conversation because the 3D room that italianikisix and i were in was uniquely NOT soundproof lmao#And i was talking poor nick's ear off about hockey though i guess that was 90% of the time about nyc

La petite mort
(OK, lets see if the halo explodes the rest of the way)
***
Head aches were not something he experienced very often. Occasionally, but not often. Uneasiness? Frustration?
Possibly.
Sheer, unadulterated boredom?
Crowley tossed a handful of frozen peas into the pond, with almost (but not quite) enough force to sink the motorised model speedboat that was annoying the ducks.
No. That wasn't it.
There was, however, a feeling of wrong. A something that he couldn't quite put a spindly finger on. He didn't think it had anything to do with that... business from several months ago. Both head offices had been as good as their word and had, in effect left him and Angel alone, but something still smelled wrong, and it wasn't the smoke now rising from that annoying model boat's engine. Irritated, he unspooled himself from the bench, and skulked his way to Soho and the Bookshop. He allowed the thinnest of smiles to touch his lips as the unmistakable sounds of 'Saville Row' meeting St James pond water reached his ears, and that he wouldn't even need to waste a miracle to make a wave to push the boat out even father. The ducks themselves had done that.

Dubrovnik day 1 -
We awoke and took in the views from the balcony. Becca went on a run to the top of the main hill in Dubrovnik while the rest of us lazed about. On her return we headed for the old town to do the “wall walk” (walking along all the fortified walls around the old city). This was listed as a “must do” in Dubrovnik pretty much everywhere but we were a bit surprised at the high prices when walking up to the ticket desk. Thankfully the guy took pity on us and told us after asking everyones ages and us truthfully saying the twins were 7, “those two are 6 today if anyone asks” and thus saving us the price of 2 more tickets. The wall walk was very scenic, slightly crowded and pretty darn hot (as Luka had warned us, so we brought lots of water). Soon after starting we met a family from LA with 2 kids of similar ages to ours and a dad named Matt (we keep meeting Matts everywhere this trip!). We had a good time talking to them a bit while exploring the wall and were particularly excited to see a basketball court with a strange bend in to fit it all in as well as some soccer goals down below. Our LA friends told us they were staying right by there and as far as they knew it was a free public court open to all comers. We then completed the wall walk loop in the heat with the requisite medium amount of child whining. Afterwards, we got gelato at Peppinos to celebrate and checked out the main drag in Dubrovnik and did some souvenir hunting as well. We then headed back to our place and changed into beach gear and checked out Banje beach which was just down the hill from our place and turned out to be rocky/pebbly (as most beaches here are) but otherwise super-nice. We relaxed/swam/played there for a few hours then hit the showers at our place (Matt also slickly negotiated a speedboat rental for the next day on the way home, talked the guy down by 80 euros but still didn't impress his shrewd negotiator of a wife). After rinsing off, we grabbed the soccer ball and headed out to find the free court we’d seen earlier. After only one wrong turn we located the correct court up a considerable amount of stairs and were surprised to find it empty despite it cooling off a bit in the evening and now being in the shade. We had a rousing game of soccer in which the parents clearly demonstrated their superior soccer ability to the children, then called it a day after everyone was tired and drenched in sweat. We then caught a bus to the suburb of Lapad in search of a Japanese restaurant that Matt had read about in Lonely Planet. It turned out to have a new name, but we still found it and after some waffling by the host who told us initially there was no table, the eventually told us they could seat us so long as we were done by 8:30 (it was 6:45ish on seating). We easily accomplished this time window and all enjoyed a variety of tasty sushi/noodle/curry/gyoza dishes which were a welcome change of pace after 2+ weeks of tomato/cheese/carb based meals. We then caught the bus home and tried to call it an early-ish night but still ended up getting kids down around 10 pm (the European lifestyle is rubbing off).

Inside The Walls
The Walls of Me Series, Part 5
Authors note: Hey this is a series of writings that's kinda autobiographical, it's gonna be VERY venty and depressing with a hint of philosophy. I don't know how much I'm gonna write for it, I might keep it up for months of years. Enjoy!
Stay safe!
Cw: abandonment, relationship issues, mental illness, mention of past issues, implication of abuse
While these walls keep me safe, they also keep my loves and memories safe. A sentinel to my heart. This will be an introduction to the interior, the buildings, and the lives of me, dear spectator.
One building is a dark grey box made of bricks, it's a whole cafeteria, I sit alone, my hands glued to my ears. Another is a living room. Stuffed animals all around and a cape, dolls, and houses. Frozen yogurt, banana pudding, and a stuffed giraffe are at my side always. My childhood if you ignored the dust and scratching. Next, the ending of that. A blurry building, red bricks, maybe some pillars, glass doors. People chatter around me. It’s a funeral, an open casket, I don’t know who it is. An urn is set on a dirty shelf. I hear a door slam then a click. –
A small baby blue pet store, filled with dogs in small crates. Beagle looks at me, others sleep. He goes and picks out one, wrinkled just like the one before. I pet her as he plays with a peanut butter bone, dad wants her, and I love her even if I didn’t pick her. The cashier asks me, and I say “Chewy” She’s my constant. She breaks anything she can, including her own leg once. She death stares, barks, and licks my hand. We’ve grown up together, even got implants together. Metal detectors hate us both. I love her. But sometimes I worry as the sun sets,
Would she have been better off not in this house of smoke and webs?
The next building is covered in smoke but when you open the door, it's fresh with an open window.. The walls are speedboat blue and the carpet is Ocean waves. Filled with nautical decor, a hiding place in the smoke. Some cobwebs are growing on the ships in a bottle on the corner shelves. Picture frames of some smiles of a little kid. Signed books- so many books, a corner full of books! The walls are covered in, posters of ships, movies, and drawings. A bed filled with warm stuffed animals… but it’s empty as a robbed tomb.
A small classroom in a box decorated with painted flowers, There are posters all around with le and la on the walls. Compliments, and beliefs I can learn. I stay in the corner, silent but I am loved nonetheless.
In the corner we have a giant mansion, most of it is blocked off except for one room. A room of sunlight, but it's not bright. A rainbow bird stuck in a cage, its life being drained while they laugh behind me- I can't unlock it- I compromise, and care for the sweet bird from outside. I make a mistake, I'm pulled away. He’s crying for me, I never wanted to leave. I’m so sorry my Bo Bo I couldn't save you. Maybe one day I can return to you. He’s dying, I don’t want to remember I run out the door, I look to the sky, and my face smiles, let's continue!
The walls also have a theater. A stage where I perform my hands shaking with anguish, I smile after. I want to do it again.
An air of familiarity hits me as I walk into the huge doors. Smiling faces of paper. Books cover the shells, mystical colors, angels, demons, essays, poems, smells of India Ink with a touch of papyrus, some smell of smoke in grandma's house, and some of a decaying whale. smells of markets and dragons with a touch of coffee stains, smells of cloudy memories forgotten in ink and time of the tick-tock, some smell of a shattered hourglass. All of these smelled sprinkled with knowledge and fruitful trees. Feathers and leaves, a nest, eggs being laid in the mind. Some of these smells may sound gruesome but that's what reading is, imagination is. The book fits the smell. This room with the electricity of life is my magical castle. Room to pace, room to organize, a walk, a run, everything’s fun. I am in this place, a quiet stowaway, for I will leave soon. It's still nice, even if the train is due to rip the smiles off. A library of safety.
A dinner with everyone but me The table is set, played clash with cake, salad and some other foods I can’t name. I want the apple juice though. I’m alone once again, on this beige couch with my hands to my ears while they all laugh, I’m not full-blood after all.
There's a whole walled-off city, a parade even with flags of all different colors. A little frog buddy, a hand to hold. But no one’s there, all alone with my colors.
Then near the opposite side, there’s a big building, It's dull with smoke, booze, and time. People love it anyway. Everyone watches as on a small stage, I walk and shake hands. Then the curtains close on everything before. – A beach house, with a mini lighthouse out front. When you open the door it's a house but then there are more doors. Some leading to boardwalks, and one is to a pool of memory, I sink in. The sun burns us all as we laugh, comforted in unfamiliarity, sitting at a small table with scallops and fries in my hand. Sitting at a dock, a fishing line gone with the waves, we laugh, a pathetic thing.. Kids laugh and sob forbade sheep's sleep. Then on a beach, too much sand overflows all the cracks in my skin, I want out as an oriental beetle dies. A puzzle of cards, fruit in my hand. A roller coaster that goes upside down, finally! My spine rocked and a kid's tears. Neither salt the night. Laughter in my soul as I listen to new tunes as the speed fluctuates. My first vacation without my parents, its a pillar I want to keep in the walls, I hope for many more I think as I lay in the old room filled with posters and stuffed animals.
I awake with a jolt as the alarms go off one by one, it’s time for the final stop in this tour.
Warm arms grasp me as I enter the docks, our final stop in the walls. The docks where two adults turn to ash in the wind, a dog barks, and others wave, all waiting for me to return, maybe a bird as well. I won't give up hope. I board the old, dainty ship, rusted with time. A ship filled with Google Docs of my words, my beach of escapism. A voice chat with love and screams in my hand. All sailing towards a dorm with a faceless beast, I shiver. There are gardens around the vessel, One of forget-me-not flowers, one full of marigolds, a rainbow of roses, and outside the pilot house, snapdragons with an azalea in the middle, suffocating it.

The Dusk Calls for me: Jasper Hale x My OC Fleur Swan, Chapter 7
AUTHORS NOTES: None of the characters in Twilight belong to me. All rights go to Stephenie Meyer.
“I'm afraid to go outside So many people rule my mind, I Can't escape, where is the line? Chained ourselves to overdrive.”
NICE OUT: By Kilo Kish
I didn’t know where I was again, It seemed I was observing a man sitting in a speedboat with his headphones on. I couldn’t see him clearly enough to a identify him at first. I then saw that man again, with the long blonde hair this time, he wasn’t wearing a shirt. I didn’t see the second man though I wondered where he was and why was I with this person again. My “body” began to move toward the man against my own will. I finally noticed it was Waylon but instead of terror, I was filled with thirst and eagerness. Waylon seemed to of heard a deep growl coming out of “my” throat and took his headphones off.
“Hello?”
My figure zoomed past his line of sight, he stood up quickly, stumbling a few feet to the front of the boat.
“Gerald? Gerald?”
When he didn’t get a reply, he got too unsettled and started the motor to the boat. Before he could take off though “I” stopped the boat from moving forward. He looked back in shock at me before greeting me.
“Hello” He stuttered.
The man with the long blonde hair then jumped down.
“Nice Jacket.” He said in a sinister tone.
“Who are you?”
“I” started to move closer to him, like an animal after it’s prey.
“It’s always the same, inane questions. Who are you?”
“What do you want? I said in a completely different voice.
“Why are you doing this?”
Finally the other man that I had seen zipped down from his hiding place, he looked quite bored.
“James, let’s not play with our food.”
As soon as he said that I kicked Waylon to the floor of the boat before pouncing on him.
I finally woke up shooting up from Jasper's chest panting again holding in a scream. I was even more freaked out than the previous dream I had before. This was someone I knew, someone I had fond childhood memories with. Why was I dreaming about killing him?
“What happened? Are you okay? What’s wrong!?” I heard Jasper ask his voice laced with concern.
Tears filled my eyes before spilling down my cheeks, I couldn’t talk it was as if I was paralyzed in fear. He pulled me in, hugging me and rubbing my back.
“I-I had a terrifying nightmare. I felt so real Jazz... I...” I couldn’t even finish my sentence. He hushed me just holding me and trying to comfort me.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“No, not right now.”
We sat in silence for a bit and I surveyed my surroundings. The weather report had lied, it was as cloudy as ever looks like Jasper and everyone else could go on that field trip after all. Our silence was then interrupted.
“I’m sorry to leave you like this but, I have to go. Your sister is about to come up.” He said in a hushed voice he kissed me before leaving through the window. My door was opened a minute later Bella had entered the room.
“Hey, did you plan on... are you okay Fleur, you look terrified?” Bella asked.
“Yeah I’m fine, I just had a nightmare... I knew I shouldn’t of watched those horror movies last night.” I lied.
“That sucks...I was just coming up here to ask if you planned on going to the Greenhouse today. You still haven’t gotten your slip signed.” She said.
“Oh yeah, I completely forgot, could you bring my slip down to dad? I have to get dressed real quick.”
“Sure no problem.”
I slowly raised myself up from my bed, the grogginess of last night sleep still lingered on me. A black t-shirt and blue jeans would have to do today. I grabbed a red sweater since I knew it would be freezing today. I grabbed my boots and rushed down the stairs trying not to trip.
“You always were the one to wait til the last minute for things to get signed weren't’ you?” Dad asked playfully.
“You should know me by now dad my motto is “Better late than never.” I replied.
“Well you two better hurry up in eat or you won’t have enough time to like last time. I have to get going early so I’ll see you girls later on today” Dad said.
“Okay, love you dad.” I said.
“Love you dad, be safe.”
Bella and I both ended up eating a fruit salad finishing around the same time. We both head towards her truck since I left it at school yesterday.
“I cannot wait to get my car back! I miss my baby.” I said.
“You love that car way too much you know.” Bella interjected.
“I may love it too much but, it’s still my baby.”
She shook her head while chuckling. The rest of the car ride was mostly quite, but the radio was on. I was surprised it worked, her truck was from the 50′s... We pulled up to the school and I got out of the truck, looking for Jasper right away. Bella seeing this nudge my shoulder before telling me to go after him. I hugged her and thanked her for the ride to school before jogging my way toward him.
“Hey darlin, seems your doin better this mornin aren’t you?” He asked.
“Yeah, I feel a lot better, thanks for earlier.”
“No problem love.” He said before attacking my face with kisses. I giggled before playfully pushing him back. I then turned my head to see Edward glaring at Bella and Mike. He seemed jealous and was intently listening in on there conversation. Bella and Mike had a quick exchange by the end of it, Edward was smirking before making his way onto the bus. I followed in with Jasper after him.
The greenhouse was nice, the different plants was very interesting to me. Jasper and I stopped by a bundle of Yellow Iris’s, my favorite flower. I looked up from the flowers to see Bella and Edward talking.
“What do you think he’s saying to her?” I asked Jasper.
“Probably something stupid.” He replied jokingly.
I sighed... “Just like Edward... to go and something stupid.”
“Yep, pretty much, Darlin.”
Suddenly it seemed the conversation went south, Bella’s face furrowed in anger and then tripped over he own to feet. Edward didn’t look very happy either after catching her and maintained a scowled on his face. Bella stormed off tired of whatever he was saying.
“Did we jinx it? It seems he actually did say something stupid.” I said.
“I think we did love, Edward’s people skills are extemely rusty.”
“Yeah, they definitely are.”
As we made our through the greenhouse, Edward started to follow Bella out of the building. They stopped in front of the bus we were riding in.
“Hey, are you going to join us?” Alice asked.
“Yeah I think we have some room for one more.” Dean said.
“NO, this one’s full.” Edward said curtly before banging on the school bus door. As soon as it opened he stormed inside, Alice and Dean following quickly behind. Jasper and I ended up at the front of the bus.
“I’ll see you at home.” I said.
“Yeah see you later.” Bella replied.”
When we arrived back in the parking lot I made my way to my car. I bid Jasper a goodbye before driving home quickly, I wanted to know how Bella was doing. When I entered the the kitchen Bella and stormed out of the kitchen, I could tell she wanted to be alone so I didn’t bother her. The next school day was pretty uneventful until lunch, Bella had asked me if I wanted to go with her, Angela, Ben, Eric, Tyler, and Mike to La Push beach. I accepted the invitation, it had been a while since I had visited around that area. When Bella went off to get her lunch I decided to tell Jasper where I was going. He was always reluctant for me to go down to La Push for some reason. He never really told me, I understood. I had a feeling it was just a secret he couldn’t tell and I completely understood that, I was in the same situation after all. I wasn’t going to pressure him into telling me anything he didn’t want to. I approached the table, the other Cullens were happy to see me.
“Hey Jazz, you’re going to have to come a bit later tonight, I’m going down to La Push with Bella and her friends.” I said.
I could tell he was uncomfortable with that idea but, he knew how stubborn I was. If I was going to go somewhere, no one was going to get me to change my mind.
“Just be careful, Fleur. It’s a bit dangerous down there.” I heard Rosalie say.
“Don’t make Dean and I come down there and beat someone up Short-stack.” Emmett said while cracking his knuckles.
Alice had nodded in agreement with Emmett.
“Okay, darlin, be safe.” Jasper added.
“I will, you know since I’m here I should probably tell you... Bella’s getting suspicious about you guys. She hasn’t outright said anything about you guys being a vampire but... she might find out soon.” I explained.
Rosalie, Emmett, and Jasper all looked uncomfortably at each other. Alice on the other hand, didn’t seem phased at all.
“Thank you for warning us Fleur, we’ll try to be a bit more careful with what we do.” Rosalie said.
“If she finds anything at La Push, I’ll let you guys know.”
“Thank you.” Rosalie said.
The school day came and went quickly and soon enough I was driving my way to La Push. This was going to be one interesting visit.
