short post about sammy seo’s tattoos, because… because… because i can and i have same style tattoos! (couple materials??😋🎀)

so this type of tattoos is Thai mantras called Sak Yant and as i read from different sources originally thai monks done it for protection against weapons, same as chinese warriors draw it on their clothes, also for protection. so main meaning of this tattoos is protection

Sak Yant is a pattern consisting of mantras using the letters of the Khmer alphabet. patterns are folded into geometric shapes that have different meanings. basically, the meaning of Sak Yant is some kind of material goals, for example, it is protection from enemies, blows with weapons and attracting good luck, wealth.

from what i also learned before doing the tattoo is the fact that Sak Yant wasn’t allowed to do on women, because as i said it mostly used for protection from weapons and in case with thai monks women are not allowed to step into monks temple and they are not allowed to touch women. and here comes next fact - it strictly should be done by monk for a reason - monk with a high level of moral purity is able to transmit magical power through Yant. or as i read in others source that because of monk’s high level of enlightenment they can see what exact Yant you need - which means you don’t know what exact patterns and mantras will be done.

in order for the mantras to work, its owner must adhere to the five Buddhist limiting principles ;

truthfulness (do not lie)

nonviolence (do not kill)

non-appropriation (do not steal)

do not commit adultery

do not take alcohol and drugs

(and almost in every fact sammy is failed lol(im cooked too🥲))

oh and obviously this type of tattoos are done with traditional ancient tools for tattoos, again in Thai tamales.

of course now it became piece of tattoo industry fashion, because me personally took reference from Angelina Jolly’s back Bengal tiger for first tattoo and second one directly from Hindu mythology - Vasuki the Snake.

i don’t think Sammy actually went to Thai temple (BUT WHO KNOWS) but it’s still really interesting to me how he actually did Sak Yant tattoos - by traditional ancient tools or modern techniques🤔🤔

thoughts and questions about erha...

recently just finished reading through all 311 of erha again...because the last time I read erha was like 3/4 years ago I have forgotten most of the plot twists and only remembered one or two (i mean can you blame me theres probably more than 10 plot twists i cant) and all i feel right now after finishing 2 bible worth of text is...IM UNSATISFIED with the ending!!!! i need to vent!!

like im a sucker for plot twist its a riveting read!! and although the sheer amount of plot twists is a little...excessive imo, I do think theres thought behind most of it like there were glimpses of SMJ being the villain from the start and most of them have some form of foreshadowing or like gradual build up in suspense. but the last plot twist???? hUH??? wdym theres suddenly a new type of butterly bone whatever demon thats syuuuuper untraceable and unnoticeable and Mo Ran is conveniently one of them and hes brought back to life for the 26th time???? HUHHHHH???? like maybe im wrong or missed it out cus i was reading frenetically but i dont think theres a single hint or instance to suspect Mo Ran has the demon blood in him?

urgh idk anyway convenient writing aside, aside from Xue Meng I dont think many of the side characters get a neat enough bow on their ending like would love more words about YWX and SMJ especially??? like he literally disappeared after sending CWN off like??? and get 5 sentences more or less. (i havent read the 39 extras maybe theres more there, I might have the last time i read erha but i have no recollection and im not in a hurry to read them, i need a break! why are there so many extras!) and dont even get me started on that split personality thing...I hate it!

also i have 2 genuine questions about the plot i might have missed it while reading cus I was to engrossed in trying to make sense of mtl but 1) so did SMJ have a proper crush on CWN or not like...? or was it just like a little splash of quirk in character cus at first I thought like its going to play a huge part as the story unravels but it...doesnt seem like it? and speaking of SMJ 2) what happened to the other butterfly bone demons that crossed the bridge after the demon gates closed and the brudge crumbled? did they just die?? or did they somehow make it into the demon realm at the expense of HBN? the whole last fight scene is a mess to try to imagine in my head...pls enlighten me so that i minimise restless nights thinking about erha's convulted ass plot and how my baby XZM is so wronged and done dirty by the author! heartless!!

also also last one: i get irrationally VEXXED everytime i see the words "...'s adam apple bobbed" or "...'s adam apple trembled/moved/blah blah" like istg it appears EVERYTIME they even lightly brush past each other especially the middle 100 chapters wheres these 2 are like sapphically pining and yearning for each other but REFUSE to talk it out bEcAuSe ReSpEct anD lOvE ShIzuN...COUPLES THERAPY!!! AND STOP TALKING ABOUT THEIR ADAMS APPLE AND HOW IT BOBS EVERY CHAPTER ARGHHHHHHHHH

Two days ago, I was already here. She prescribed me drugs, antidepressants, that I can continue to take during pregnancy. Weeks before, I attended those therapeutic group sessions she led. I haven’t been there often, but she asked me about Daniel there. She saw I wasn't well. And that's exactly the topic she first discussed with me today. She wanted to get an idea of my current situation and she was also worried about Daniel. She thought Daniel was going through something similar to me. Just he did not have panic attacks, but she was sure, he also struggled to process this thing .The attack on the two of us and the consequences of it. firstly ,, i'm feeling so much better about the whole thing. i should have left luma so much sooner before runi's callout ,, so idk why (or how) i stuck around for so long. the gatekeeping characters was something that should have been a red flag to me ,, especially when they wanted to kill themself because of it ,, but the fact that they wanted to gatekeep ME as well was what pushed me to the edge.

everyone can have as many friends as they like as long as they keep in contact with each other ,, so the fact they felt like i was "replacing" them - despite knowing each other for a long time - was ridiculous and i'm so happy i got out of that friendship. i just hope no one has to experience that with them in the future because christ ,, the entire universe will neve want to be their friend afterwards.

My Trailblazer is officially one of the Nameless now too lol (literally has no name yet). I’m gonna do full body outfit for them too soon but that’ll take awhile and I wanna post what I have rn so :>

(Hh also I realized after that I’d accidentally given Nameless Aether’s hair which RIP me. Egg on my face. Uhm I’ll just never style his hair like Aether’s — pretend it’s unique for me pls /lhj I just didn’t know whether to give them hair in between length or longer than and this was the easiest middle ground)

this is just a lil smth I decided to do for fun bc I, as a funky little artist enby, wanted someone more of my stature (I love caeleus but he’s kinda tall and that intimidates me) and also I just generally like NB and GN mc’s, they’re nice <3 The Nameless NB will LIKELY be who I draw in the future in place of either canon Trailblazer’s for most things — but don’t quote me on that. I may just feel like doodling one of the other two for fun but we’ll see !

P.S. NO one asked but I named my Trailblazer (I keep almost sating Traveler) Shingetsu which means New moon, Heart moon, spirit perfection, or enlightenment of the mind and I’m so proud of that name for him, I love Shingetsu v much he’s a lad! I’d’ve used it for the Nameless MC but it doesn’t fit the naming conventions of Stelle and Caelus who have names of… Latin origin, I believe, while Shingetsu is Japanese.

And P.S.S I say Nameless NB a lot bc it’s catchy but I’m sticking w ambiguity for their gender - I’m always gonna use they/them (unless i fuck up) but anyone can use anything for them! And if you wanna use their design please credit me or I’ll be upset!

these go hand in hand so i'm doin' 'em together >:3c so wow toons are what you call your different world of warcraft characters, of which i have... 12? 15? some multiple of three. i shall describe each of them in turn bc you've inadvertently activated my trap card.

Sétanta - my very first wow character. he's a worgen bc obviously i'm going to pick the werewolf race, come on. i made him a druid bc i heard you could turn into even more animals and this pleased me. He's named for Cú Chulainn (Hound of Culann), who renamed himself that as a kid. I pronounce it 100% wrong, with an /s/ at the start and a /t/ in the middle, but that's what happens when you learn all your words by reading as a small child. i pronounced seamus See-Miss until i was like 16. it could be worse.

Seidrin - As I was fleshing him out i accidentally went way too hard on his mom's backstory, so when I wanted to make a tank she was the natural choice. her dad is the wolf god Goldrinn, who I decided (fancifully) to pretend was named for galdra, one of the kinds of norse magic. -inn being the masculine name suffix, i changed it tothe feminine -in and named her for seiðr magic instead. went with a d instead of a th bc logan very wisely pointed out the "-drin-" mirrors Goldrinn.

Crimthann - Sétanta's dad. I wanted to make a healer and I was like you know what would be really funny? If I named his dad after another guy who renamed himself for an animal. And Crimthann (an old irish name meaning 'fox') is often alleged to be the birth name of St. Colmcille, 'church dove'. so i made him a priest but unfortunately priests are very boring to play so he's... languishing.

Donn - I wanted to make a Horde character but I didn't know how to play anything but a druid so I was like... surely, this will work. I was gonna name him Donn Cúailnge after the Brown Bull of Cooley but it turns out you can't put spaces in the names. But Donn (shockingly) wasn't taken so... here he is! Tauren druid!

Jettion - I was bullied into making a dracthyr, the newest race, bc they have a fun starting quest. Dragons in wow have name suffixes according to their 'flight' (color) and he's a male black dracthyr (who are like anthro dragons) so his name had to end in -ion, and often the black flight's names start with shades of blade, so... it was either Jetion or Jettion, and I liked Jettion better bc it looks like Jettison.

Shannock - We all made vulpera, the little fox people together. but i'd already used the name Crimthann. so I was like 'maybe sionnach'? but if you can believeit some bastard already snagged it. so i went with a rough anglicization. i should play him more.

Lokworg - I've twice been bullied into making a monk bc supposedly they get fun later on & i just need to keep doing quests with my pals, but my pals are much faster than i am and outstrip me quickly. The first monk i deleted bc i don't care about him and honestly lokworg's not doin' much for me either. His name's orcish, lok is song/cry (noun) and worgs are the large, extra smart wolves orcs ride as mounts. More or less 'direwolf song'.

Rumpelteazer - Peer pressured into doing the worgen starting quest & I wanted someone who could learn to pick locks one day, so rogue it was! Originally named Scátha (irish for shade but also kind of an oblique reference to scáthach, the scottish warrior woman who trained Cú Chulainn (and my own pseudohistorical ancestor)), but I kept pronouncing it wrong and was listening to Cats 1998 soundtrack and... well... he's a rogue! and Mungojerrie was taken!

Ulfhedrinn - in keeping with the norse theme, he's named after the Ulfheðnar (singular Ulfheðinn, wolf+what's basically a hooded vest made of fur) that were an appropriately lupine variety of berserkers. I wanted to make a Horde healer and i was like you know... i haven't made this insane little family big enough yet.

Galdrulf - Okay, honestly? He was supposed to be Ulfhedrinn. We were starting with new Horde characters and we were gonna level together, but I got so lost in the customization sauce that I forgot Ulf's particular flavor of orc starts at level 10 instead of 1. So I panicked and made a warrior, and I named him galdr+ulf bc I'm not very creative under pressure.

Fuil - Bullied into making a dark iron dwarf but i'm not clear on why bc we never got farther than unlocking them? guys? are we doing anything with these? irish for blood bc he's going to be a Blood Death Knight. one day. probably.

Tigernmas - I was peer pressured into making a Demon Hunter, whom I wanted to name Crom but noooo, that was 'taken', so I named him after a pseudohistorical king that got himself and 75% of the men in Ireland killed worshipping Crom Cruach.

you know i'm sensing some themes here. a lot of irish. a lot of peer pressuring. jesus christ is seidrin my only woman? she doesn't even use the fpose model no wonder they keep he/himming me

i think the main thing is its like a secret society type of thing. like showfall media is a corporation that has been secretly running the world for decades and has personally shaped history through planting politicians and lobbying and all that stuff. and the public doesnt know shit. its also has heavy control (maybe monopoly) over media and influences the world a lot. whne you call the number it plays the showfall theme and says theres a missing perosn hotline so actually i think it has even more control on the world than i iniatally thought

i think we are people who in the beginning we are going to start working for showfall media and i think by watchinhg showfall stuff, something happens like we get mindcontrolled or smth or we get manipulated into believing, hence why they say dont watch in the rebellious characters plan. (maybe it has something to do with the tv static having powers idk im bullshiting this) also i think weve gone through a lot to get to here, and they are looking for immoral people, hence why they had us kill (i think) someone in inaguration T_2.

showfall seems like a smart corp. they value wisdom over power. or maybe because wisdom is the best way to power i believe. showfall also seems like those people thats like “if you join it yuoull be enlightened” type things. it also seems like a corp. that “if you are in it youa re the elite.”

if this is a social experiement, i think it might have to see how far someone will go until they conform. or i think this experiment will touch on conformity. but it will definitely touch on obedience to authority (which i think is a type of conformity but i digress) if it doesnt ill be damned

but this could also mean that this is a social experiemnet canonically, if so, whats it for. to see how far defiance goes so they can see if they fully take over the world?

also think there was originally a character who was aware of all of it at the beginning and was trying to take down showfall and trying to make people aware of showfalls schemes but they took him down. in “connected” there was all his papers with lies around the showfall logo and sentences saying theyve changed everything and they had to stop it, and then after the flash of someone there was missing posters, meaning that showfall takes down anyone who knows. i think the rebellious person wants to kill the founder of showfall becuas eby doing this, showfall falls in on itself. also in connecting, it was saying how if they had info onanyone, pls tell so and so. mayve the rebellious person as killed? whne you call the number it says you can thelp the person. then says your voicemail has been sent.

i think canonically, weve joined showfall rn. because we have connected. am im excited to see where this goes. we are connected now. and that fills me with dread. and i think its up to us to see what part we will play in this world.

but like ranboo said, im going in this with a clean slate, its just fun to theorize. especially when it comes to social experiemnts. im so excited for the keynote

every world cup i'll watch a couple of games and think: huh, i actually like watching football. i enjoyed the dutch run in 2014 a lot lol. but then i'll forget about it

but this year i watched a lot more games bc i crashed somewhere w/ a tv for three weeks & i realized again how much i enjoyed watching those games. didn't just watch the dutch games this time either & i started to get a few favorite players here and there (looking at you, hakimi & mbappé) and then i googled them and turns out, they're all on the same team. so i thought i'd check out one of their games & see if i still enjoy watching football if it's not a world cup (?? very logic, much sense) & next thing i know, im planning my week around psg's games (shocking all my friends in the process bc they're like. football? you??? huh?????? and im like. yeah idk what happened either)

anyways first i was very excited about psg (i mean. it's a lot of fun to watch a team score 5+ goals a game) but now the cracks are starting to show, even to someone who knows so little, like me. and im seeing more criticisms of their management and decisions they've made and all of that. and im kinda sad about it bc im realizing that this team that got me so hooked on watching football is probably gonna fall apart soon & idk what to do when it does. like do i start watching the games from all teams they'll join? idk i really want my fave 3-5 players to be on the same team tbh. im a little scared all my enjoyment of football is gonna come crashing down when the team dissolves. but for now, im having a good time watching their games

What do you think about Light's death in Drama Death Note ? Could you do a comparison with Light's death in anime/manga/movie ?

Light’s drama death is…. well, I can see what it is setting out to do, I just think its goals are boring and it accomplishes them pretty poorly, haha.

Rewatching all adaptations of Light’s death for this ask really made me appreciate once more why the manga death is so brilliant. The absolute raw-ness of Light begging for his life is something no adaptation has ever recreated or come even close to replicating in impact. The anime takes most of the same scene and then opts for sentimentality instead of raw pathetic emotion - it cuts Light begging and instead makes him run away and face his past self before dying relatively peacefully - it’s effective in an anime-typical sterile kind of way. A very conservative set-up for a death that is guaranteed to make people cry but that doesn’t offer anything especially new or bold. Good, but not nearly as good.

The movie meanwhile banks more on a tension aspect than a pity aspect overall. It lets Light laugh along with Ryuk for a bit, allowing both Light and the audience to believe Ryuk is helping and killing the Task Force before flipping this around. Then it dramatically drops Ryuk’s “no heaven nor hell” line in order to further raise plot-related dramatics. When Light dies, it’s in his fathers arms, but he’s still insisting he was right all along and it’s not too much of a tear-jerker.

The drama… Well, I am going a bit more in depth here since that’s the main medium you asked about. 

Where the manga’s focal point is Light’s raw humanity and fear of death, the anime’s is the solemn sadness of a life gone wrong and the movie’s is plot tension (and fatherhood)… the drama banks more on “the Death Note corrupts”.Which is… let’s be real, kind of lame a focal point.

The final scene in the drama is leaning pretty heavily on the scene structure from manga and anime but adapted to the drama’s more emotional and ‘relatable’ rendition of Light (drama!Light is the only one who doesn’t cite percentages when explaining why Kira is good because he’s gay and can’t do math). This Light starts unraveling and talking highly emotionally before he’s getting shot already - manga and anime Light don’t do that and movie Light gets shot pretty early on so comparing him is hard here.

This Light is also the only Light to not get killed by Ryuk.

Instead Mikami just sets him on fire WHILE TRYING TO HELP. Because setting the room on fire for a diversion is a great idea when the one person you’re trying to save has been shot in the legs and literally cannot leave right now.I know that this is irrelevant to the point but it’s honestly my favourite thing - drama Mikami kills both Light and L and it’s amazing. He’s so funny.

Anyway, this Light’s death is largely a drawn-out sequence of Light crawling over the floor trying to reach the Death Note - he repeats over and over that as long as he has the Death Note, he can’t be stopped and all will be fine. There’s no introspection, no acknowledgement that he’s definitely going to die, just a one-track mind obsession with the notebook that drags out for so long that I was genuinely getting bored watching him crawl around like that.You don’t NEED that much to drive the point home that having the notebook was a bad thing for Light. The drama just needlessly keeps pushing the whole ‘this notebook ruined his life!!’ thing and imo it gives very little emotional pay-off.

Light’s final plea is begging Ryuk to give him the eyes, which is… funny because the shinigami who is, rule-wise, in the position to give him the eyes here is not Ryuk but Rem. It is also funny because the eyes are literally useless to him in this situation and since he’s dying naturally either way, halfing his life would only cut it down to like… a few less seconds than before. Whoa.

I suppose this is supposed to show us how irrational he’s getting in his despair, but honestly? That was clear 5 minutes earlier already. Light’s death in the drama drags out and out and out without actually adding anything new or meaningfully closing Light’s character arc. Random flashbacks to better times that are spliced in between do little to give the empty dialogue more depth.

Combining this with the fact that the CGI fire he dies in looks absolutely ridiculous and not even remotely realistic, I think the impact of the scene falls flat completely. Kubota is doing a great job with acting, but that isn’t saving the bad script and the horrible special effects.

His death in the drama is the most unique take on his death technically, but it manages to just… not do anything that’s even remotely powerful or interesting.

Also, fic idea 4 this is that 6EM would b so relieved 2 know that it’s false, he’d b shook ofc & he’d prolly feel guilty bcz of his whole revenge thing, but he’d also b relieved 2 know that SWK didn’t actually kill him. So he doesn’t see this as a problem in the way of their relationship n e more, bcz it didn’t happen. But SWK absolutely thinks this is a ✨Problem✨™️, bcz What The Actual FUCK Macaque??

So, new problem: 6EM has had centuries to cope (cough master being in the river of Egypt cough cough) w/ SWK “killing him”, & SWK has had, like, 3 minutes💀. So ofc 6EM just wants 2 skim past this & continue pretending that everything is Fine™️, but SWK has finally remembered his ✨Enlightenment✨ & desperately wants 2 talk 2 6EM abt this v real issue.

Bcz this isn’t healthy 4 either of them. SWK has been violently made aware that as long as 6EM has a chance 2 have their friendship back he’s willing 2 4get/put up w/ anything. (Which honestly wrecks SWK & makes him wonder how much he’s alr done wrong, what unknown boundaries he’s crossed.) & 6EM is, well, he’s refusing 2 face his issues & shit cause he just wants 2 have SWK back.

The fic would basically b like:

SWK: “Macaque… we need to talk.”

6EM: “Look man, if this is about the peach chips I swear it wasn’t me! The-“

SWK: “Macaque. I’m serious.”

6EM: “Oooo, he’s serious! Careful there, wouldn’t want you to pull something!”

SWK: *Obviously frustrated but choosing to ignore him, knowing they won’t get anything done if he engages.*

SWK: “We need to talk about what happened the other day! I mean, did you really think that I would-“

6EM: “Psshh, that? Don’t even worry about it peach! It’s in the past, been debunked, remedied, coped with, I’m 100 and 10 percent over it- all that good stuff!”

SWK: “‘Over it’?! This isn’t something you can just be ‘over’!”

SWK would do the same, calm him down, & he’d say that it’s valid 2 b upset & that it doesn’t matter if it was “real” or not bcz it is real to Macaque.

I’m leaning more towards 6EM breaking down abt it bcz I feel like SWK, after everything, would feel comfortable enough talking 2 MK or Sandy. Meanwhile 6EM is only rlly close 2 SWK, MK, & Mei, but he can’t talk abt it w/ SWK, can’t w/ MK (cause y’know), & certainly not Mei (bcz Y’KNOW).

They eventually talk abt it, boundaries get set up, safe words 4 when sums going on they don’t like but aren’t 100% comfy outright saying or don’t wanna explain. If u want extra hurt/comfort I’d make the 1st safe word used b abt SWK’s staff. Like SWK just trying 2 show off, MK asks 2 see him & 6EM spar. They do, but SWK pulls out his staff & 6EM panics so badly, & he just blurts out “Pear!”, & once he’s calmed down he’d prolly b v embarrassed over it. Pulling the classical move of “lmao how embarrassing haha, let’s crack a joke and 4get this ever happened”, but SWK has enlightenment (and Sandy) on his side. So eventually 6EM spills that he remembers SWK killing him w/ it (whether or not SWK actually gave 6EM his eye injury or not is up 2 u) & SWK instantly agrees 2 never use it against him again.

The 1st time SWK used it would prolly b 4 sum a lot more nuanced? Like it’s p obv y 6EM wouldn’t want his murder weapon in the general vicinity of his TKO spot💀. But w/ SWK I think it’d b more, like, 6EM w8ing 4 him. I feel like it’d b hard 4 him 2 explain/put in2 words, cause may b he doesn’t even know what’s scratching at his brain every time 6EM says “I’ll w8 4 u, dw” or sum. Eventually it’d get out & 6EM would agree 2 do sum else while w8ing so it feels less like he’s w8ing 4 SWK.

Does any1 else just casually wonder wtf it’d b like if SWK didn’t actually kill 6EM & it was all a plot by the big bad? Like imagine he & 6EM start healing

hello im back with my questions,, ty in advance !! - do u have any tips for the composition of front pages/ cover pages? like how to position the title and the text etc? - what are your thoughts on studying art you dont like? do you think its worth spending time to look at a piece and just pick out stuff u dont like so u can avoid it? - your post on your other blog about how you dont want to be a professional artist but youve also never wanted anything else just resonated with me so hard. did u find enlightenment in the ~3-4 days since u said that and could u share it w us pls and ty - i really appreciate art like yours where symbolism etc isnt extremely obvious and it means that when i revisit that work i get to discover new stuff each time!! its wonderful. any advice for making sure your art is conveying that level of info correctly and youre not overdoing it or making it so subtle that no one picks up on it?

i honestly have no specific advice regarding this one! i would go about treating it the same way i'd treat any other combo of images/words, where i view the space taken up by the words as it's own compositional element same as anything else. i'm very very bad at typography and i'd suggest looking at the works of people who do do typography for inspiration, because the way people who Know typography use text is soooo different from the way the rest of us plebians are doing it. but anyway, heres a few really rough examples of the way you could position text on a title page for something. you can see immediately that the aspect ratio of the areas where your other visual elements would be is wildly different between all of these things, which means you'd need a different proportioned drawing to adequately use the space in each case. so i feel like this is the kind of thing it's really important to thumb out ahead of time, just so you're not left with awkward crops or dead space once you go to add text

i think studying things you don't like is insanely critical in all areas, not just art. in many ways engaging with something you like is much more passive than engaging with something you don't. I find that on average, people are less likely to pick up on individual elements of art they like compared to art they dislike. You need a little bit of roughage for things to stick in your brain, sometimes. It has to burn going down a bit. Being able to understand and articulate what you think isn't working about a piece or a style lets you isolate elements that do work, and lets you get that much more in line with your own taste. The array of art I like is impossibly wide and varied. The stuff I explicitly and without exception dislike is a much smaller and more concrete pool of things, and knowing what those things are so I can avoid them is much more helpful for narrowing down my own technique than having five billion different styles I actively aspire to. I think analyzing stuff you dislike is also interesting when you take the time to question if what you're seeing and disliking is an area where the artist is unskilled on a technical level, and failing to execute something, or if the execution is intentional/successful but merely outside of your taste bracket. This can be kind of an arbitrary distinction at times but I find it helpful to at least give some thought to. If something feels unskilled - what would a more skillful execution look like? Would you like it then? If something is just outside of your tastes - where do you think the appeal lies for people who do find it appealing? You can get a ton of mileage out of this stuff

unfortunately i did not find enlightenment there. my problems with becoming a professional artist are not the same problems everyone else is having for the most part. there was a lot of replies on that post about how being an artist under late stage capitalism sucks and while thats true thats not whats stopping me. what's stopping me is my horrible health problems and recent development of a life ruining disability. i Can't pursue art professionally, or literally any other field, because i can't put in more than a couple hours of work a day max on anything. i had to delete that post because it was honestly really frustrating to have to sit through a bunch of tags in my notifs that boiled down to 'ugh yeah i would LOVE to be a professional artist if it didnt involve doing/learning stuff i didnt want to sometimes, and instead i was just giving enough money to live on to do exactly what i want whenever i wanted' which is just to me a deeply entitled mindset. A lot of creatives actually Do get paid to make whatever they want whenever they want! But these are the kind of people who have spent years and years of their life building up a following and improving their craft. I'm not sure why people think they should be allowed to skip that part and go right to getting paid for it.

As for symbolism, I think you're looking at it a little bit wrong! There is no one level of symbolism i'm using that can get 'correctly' conveyed, it just isn't possible. Communication in general, but especially in the case of more abstracted symbolism, is an inherently asymmetrical act. The ability to communicate something relies just as heavily as it does on your audience's ability to understand and interpret as it relies on your own communicative skill. Visual literacy in particular varies a lot from person to person, because it's not taught in the same way as textual literacy or verbal literacy. A find a lot of the symbolism I use pretty blunt and not that subtle. Some of it is also stuff that I know nobody but me will ever notice. Plenty of stuff is in the middle ground between these two extremes. Having a wide spread ensures that there will be at least a little bit of something for everyone, and that those people who are dedicated enough to return back to your work later will find it newly rewarding. I really don't know to convey How to do this because there's an almost infinite number of things you can do with visual symbolism, so my advice would be primarily

understand when you are working with imagery that has become cliched. Almost everything has been done before, but some things have been done more than others. The term has a lot of negative connotations, and is very much down to a matter of opinion/culturally dependent, but there's some types of imagery that are just sooooo overused that anyone with familiarity on the subject is probably already sick of it. This does not mean you can't use them. This means you have to be careful. Think about stuff like biblical imagery in the west, like something being in black and white with one object selectively colored, like red string imagery, like visuals where a character looks into a mirror and sees a reflection different from their true self. This is all stuff i'd consider to be cliched. The benefits of cliched imagery is that it is accessible enough for even the least visually inclined viewer to understand what is being conveyed by it. The downsides are that it's very easy to come off as trite to anyone with more familiarity. My personal tastes for working with cliche is to lean into it. If you know what you're doing has been done before over and over again, embrace that. Don't try to be subtle with it; trying to be subtle with something that is too culturally ubiquitous for subtlety always reads as insanely condescending to me. my gut reaction is 'oh you think you're being clever with this? youre not!' so i try not to be clever. like with how i'm using tarot imagery for my comic. tarot stuff is obscenely cliche at this point. although some individual instances are more or less subtle than others, overall there is zero attempt to mask what i'm doing. it's pretty much got a big neon sign on it that says 'hey guys! we're doing a tarot thing! so lets all have a fun time with that!' when you use cliche, try and do it because your audience is familiar with it, not despite that.

trust your instincts. you don't have to understand your own symbolism. you don't have to be able to sit down and explain in words what everything you're drawing means. if we were only going to limit ourselves to things we could explain in words, we could just be writing things instead of drawing things. visuals don't have to translate 1:1 to concrete literary ideas and something just feeling right can be more than a good enough reason to include it. it's not bullshit or fake symbolism or pretentious just because you can't sit down and bust out an essay about it. some stuff is allowed to be ambiguous or weird. we would never get any New imagery if we were limited to using imagery that could be explained. toss whatever you can in wherever you can and let it coagulate into something coherent as you go.

consider the way your body of work informs itself. if you randomly stick a pineapple into one image, that could mean something, but it could also not. if you become the guy who sticks random pineapples into every drawing, then it definitely means something. you don't need to artificially curate this, but rather, you can just lean into the sort of visuals you find intriguing/compelling and allow that to become symbolic or meaningful through its presence in your larger body of work. symbolism is inherently relational, there is no discrete visual which is on its own a symbol. it has to relate to something outside of itself to mean anything. you can build that meaning yourself.

Again, I’m sorry but you have to do most of the cooking. If you don’t know how to cook then it’s about time you learned how to. Headcanon that he’s very messy and clumsy in the kitchen. If it’s a simple food that doesn’t require a long time of cooking and many ingredients, then he’s willing to cook.

He doesn’t really bring you out on dates, prefers to just sit at home and relax instead. He will bring you out if he’s in the mood for it or if you ask him to but it’s not often that it happens.

Prefers dogs over cats or any other pets. He already has a dog so whether you like it or not, you have to deal with it. But he is scared of big dogs because he thinks it will definitely bite him. If it’s anything other than dogs and cats, then I don't think he’ll be very fond of them.

He’s a decent cook and generally likes cooking. If you’re bad at cooking then he doesn’t mind cooking most of the time, but he does expect you to at least give him a hand.

He brings you out on dates, but it’s not very often so you wouldn’t feel like going out on a date is pretty normal. He wants every date to hold a special meaning in both of your hearts.

I think he’s a dog person, and would randomly pet any dogs he sees. He once brought you over to a dog cafe and he didn’t leave the place without petting every single dog there. Hates to keep birds/parrots as a pet because of how noisy they can get.
