half-life gman headcanon/theory ramblings

so i just remembered how i have this headcanon that gman and his employers are similar to the vorts, that being theyre a hivemind and call eachother their "kin" except with gman its his "employers" instead of "kin". it was mostly a silly idea i had because of that scene in half-life alyx where he splits into a bunch of gmen (probably was just for some cool visuals and nothing else).

but then i suddenly remembered matpat's theory on gman being the nihilanth, one of the evidences he had was that gman's tie could be a third arm like the nihilanth, and i also know that vortigaunts have a third arm so maybe this vortigaunt and gman connection has more merit than i thought. I DONT THINK GMAN'S TIE IS A THIRD ARM THO...

anyways my current thoughts rn are that gman could be that some random unfortunate citizen randomly picked out by the combine to experiment on to perhaps enhance their transhuman forces to have vortigaunt-like powers. maybe there were some other test subjects but everyone else idfk died or it didnt work and that gman was the only successful one. a little too successful maybe.

fuckin hell maybe he has an affinity to suits because he used to be a business man or worked for the government before the seven hour war i dunno.

honestly, i am very much with you about not really liking hollyt/aya.

it feels like. im a hollyberry fan and i rarely if ever see people analyze her character or say something about her, even in the context of that ship. and same thing with pitaya. even on ao3, most of the fics tagged as ho.llytaya just have them as background characters while the main ship is what the story is actually about.

i completely understand your distaste, and my distaste comes from the fact that people treat that ship like it's their obligatory ship to have to prove that they think about characters that don't use he/him pronouns in english.

I'm feeling kind of unhappy today and I let that influence me to ramble semi-coherently. TL;DR is Hollytaya is dumb, boring slop that further perpetuates Pitaya's ongoing character assassination in Kingdom and I deeply resent its popularity, especially when its fans often mock and malign Beast x Ancient when they are literally the exact same shit, but Hollytaya is good and acceptable because (insert lame excuse here). But whatever, I don't really care at the end of the day, I know and like plenty of people who ship it and it's no skin off my nose. My opinions are just that, opinions. You do you, friends. Have fun without me

I just don't really understand Hollytaya. I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone when I first went online after finishing the Red Dragon arc and got bombarded with ship art. I don't see anything and never have. Do I need new glasses or something

You'd think I would like Hollytaya, since it pretty much is just BurningCheese in a different costume. But I don't. In fact, Hollytaya sickens me. It was the first tag I ever blocked on this site lol. I hate even remembering it's a ship that exists at all. It just rubs me in the worst way possible and I struggle to even put how or why into words. It's as though it's simply a trait passed down from my distant ancestors and whatever the reason for it existing was was lost to time eons ago. Some primal repulsion. Fighting a centuries old blood feud when you hardly even remember why anymore.

Pitaya acts like a child. Hollyberry treats him like a child. I do not see how romance could bloom in a dynamic like that. All Pitaya ever does is act like a spoiled brat. A whiny dimwit. And Hollyberry behaves accordingly, in my eyes. Why would you want to date the person you basically have to mother every time you meet. "If you won't stop terrorizing my kingdom I'll never spar with you again" the tone with which she said that to him was like a schoolteacher scolding a tantruming 5 year old. Maybe I have different ears than everyone else idk. (You really don't understand how frustrated I am with how Pitaya is characterized in Kingdom. Look at Ovenbreak, it's like night and day. What the fuck did they do to them. Look how they massacred my boy. And as far as I'm concerned, Hollytaya only serves to further ruin Pitaya's character, because it and every depiction I've ever seen only leans into that character ruination. And I can't even blame people too much for that, because the game itself makes it seem like Pitaya's entire fucking existence revolves around Holly and wanting to fight Holly. There is literally nothing else to him as a person, and Holly honestly isn't even all that much better tbh. Holly is a jolly drunkard who takes nothing seriously and has a happy dandy life while everyone else around her suffers tremendously (I know that's not true, I know there's so much more to Holly, but Holly's development has been massively neglected to the point that she almost seems one-dimensional compared to the other Ancients) and Pitaya is her pet dog. It's a fucking disgrace)

All the fanart is the same. Just the same shit every time. All anyone ever does is make Pitaya a dumb simp and Holly the big strong woman in charge (and always taller than Pitaya for some reason. Why are you all afraid of Tall Pitaya. What's this unconscious need to drag Pitaya as far down beneath Holly as possible in any way possible. They're a fucking dragon, just let them be tall. Holly doesn't lose her worth if she's shorter than Pitaya lol). Never seen a single person ever actually address that Pitaya has committed actual crimes against Holly, her family and her kingdom, and has never said or done anything to apologize or atone. Never seen anyone acknowledge that Holly should have to morally and psychologically struggle with wanting to be with someone that personally threatened to kill her son and granddaughter. Never seen anyone acknowledge that Holly would be shunned by her people for basically romancing their dictator and would-be killer, and her friends would question her sanity and integrity. I can do that shit with GC and BS (and Holly and Eternal Sugar, for that matter), why can't anyone do it for Holly and Pitaya? Hollytaya is the not-yaoi equivalent of yaoi slop to me. It's fucking dumb and boring. I see Hollytaya randomly appear before my eyes somewhere and I remember what was done to ShadowVanilla. Except Shadowvanilla wasn't always slop, it got turned into it by new fans. Meanwhile that is what Hollytaya always was from day 1 and you can't convince me otherwise

Holly and Pitaya have nothing to offer each other romantically. Nothing that a simple friendship can't also provide. I just like them as friends. Brother from another mother. Sister from another mister. I think of them and I remember Mona-Lisa and Jean-Ralphio from Parks and Rec or some funny friend/sibling relationship like that. That's enough for me and I don't understand why it isn't enough for anyone else. (They've repeatedly referred to each other as "friend" anyway. They've already friendzoned each other lol. Sorry to burst everyone's bubble.)

It's one thing to have to endure its unfortunate popularity, and like there's nowhere I can go to escape it and no one to talk to who doesn't like it either. Hollytaya almost feels mandatory to some extent. I feel the phantom sensation of the barrel of a gun burrowing into the back of my head whenever I'm forced to see it again because a mutual or someone I follow reblogged something (and I can't just click "not interested" like I usually do, you can't do that with reblogs). Triply so not only because I ship them both with other characters, but also because I ship Pitaya with Fire Spirit, when the fandom just randomly declared them parent and child and routinely attacks anyone that interprets them differently. This ship makes me feel so alone. Like the one black sheep in a sea of white.

It's another thing to see so many fans be so hypocritical about it. Huge chunk of Hollytaya fans I've seen will turn around and decry Beast x Ancient when that is literally what Hollytaya is. Zero irony or self-awareness. And I mean, fine. Whatever. Be that way. Lord knows I'm not all that different. Just don't be a dick about it. Which a lot of them are lol. A lot of them are the same ones that will actively harass Beast x Ancient fans, because you know. BurningCheese is toxic but Hollytaya isn't. Somehow. For some reason. (I've genuinely tried so hard to understand that and I can't lol. By all accounts, the fandom should hate Hollytaya because it fits the criteria for "toxic" and "abusive". But they don't. It's one of the most popular ships. Because? Because. Just because. No actual reason listed. I get the impression that a lot of people in this fandom don't think things through often lol)

Idk man. PitayaFire is vastly superior to me. Pitaya's and Fire Spirit's deep flaws and hidden virtues mesh so much better together. They have more to give and more to take from each other. The foundation of their relationship is already so fascinating. The fact that this ship is slept on the way it is is so wild to me. Where have any of you been. What's going on with you guys. PitayaFire is peak real estate for angst and tension and character exploration. Why y'all gotta leave me hanging like this. I'm not crazy I swear

But... whatever. I say all of this and end it with "ship what you want it's not my problem". Because it honestly isn't. As annoyed as I sound, I really don't pay ships I don't like much thought unless prompted, like with asks like this one. I blocked the tags forever ago and just click "not interested" if they show up on my dash. I don't go looking for content because it's not for me. And I don't go out of my way to bother anyone who likes Hollytaya or whatever else I don't because that's shitty and a waste of time. They're talking cookies who honestly gives a fuck. Do whatever so long as it isn't adult x minor or something equally inexcusable. I have plenty of friends and mutuals and followers that like Hollytaya and I don't think any less of them for it. I still like and cherish them. I'd be an awfully lonely person if I turned away everyone who liked something I don't. That's a terrible way to live, nobody should do that.

Hello welcome to tumblr! You came to the right place bc I love explaining things. This is really long and kind of convoluted bc tags are multi-faceted so I am putting it under a “read more” and I hope this clarifies things instead of completely making it more confusing but here is my attempt to explain things

TAGS:

So Tagging serves several functions on tumblr, it is for organization, in a metadata sense, but it also serves as a sotto voce place for commentary.

Tags as Organization

- On your own original posts

- When you make a new post (art, commentary, a photo of a dog, etc) tagging is how you can add metadata for your own blog but most importantly for posts appearing in the searchable tags on the site.

which searchable tags are one of the ways fandom or other collective experiences happen on here. You can follow tags you like and they will show up on your dashboard (if you have those settings enabled. There are a lot of settings on tumblr and I’ll touch on those later in this post).

So when you make a new post when you add tags it will show up when people click on or search those tags. This is only when you put those tags when you initially post the post, tags you add in a reblog do not function to put the post in the public tag for that, only in the tags of your own blog for organization.

Only the first….10? Maybe 20 tags actually work for putting posts in the public tags (they changed this number a few years ago it used to be smaller).

Generally when making a new post I start with the fandom tags, then organizational tags, then random commentary.

Also for orignal posts and for fandom tags people follow, in recent years they’ve made it so words in the body of posts also show up in the tags. So if you’re really hating on a character and don’t want fans of that character to see it and argue etc I generally censor the name with some asterisk * marks. But that’s also bc I’m really not a fan of discourse and arguing online. (If I wanted to post “I hate Santa Claus so much and I don’t understand how anyone likes him his crimes in Rudolph are so awful I hate to even look at him” even if i didn’t put any tags at all it would show up in a search for “Santa claus” so I might put S*nta Cl*us instead. Bc my hater posts are just for my followers not for strangers. )

For example when I posted art this is how I tagged it

I start off with fandom organization tags. So this would show up for anyone following or searching the tag for “nightwing” or “batman fanart”. Then I use “my art” to organize all of my own art on my blog. Then the rest of the tags that are sentences are my own ‘director’s commentary’ on my art to share my thoughts about making it. These tags will show up on the post on my blog, and in the tag, but people looking at someone else’s reblog of my art will not see them and will see the reblogger’s tags instead.

ALSO tags are only so many characters long, so the accepted grammar is to just spill over into the next tag, like a line-break in regular writing document. The only punctuation that doesn’t work in tags is commas (since that is how tags are separated) and quotation marks. Whether or not people use punctuation and grammar is up to them.

- Tags on REBLOGS

So on your own blog when you tag things that you have reblogged its for a few reasons.

1. Organization, if you tag a post with a fandom or whatever tag you want, on your own blog you can click on that and see all the posts you have reblogged or posted with that tag. This is also nice for letting people blacklist or filter out fandoms they might not want to see (for example I tend to not tag memes and jokes but i do tag fandoms so that I can see those posts and so that people who don’t follow me for like 9-1-1 or Star Wars or whatever don’t have to see it if they don’t want to.)

2. Commentary. Tags on a reblog show up in the activity feed for the original poster of the post and the person you reblogged it from. And then people who follow you will see the post with your tags. TBH this is a way to make mutuals bc it is a way to share thoughts, jokes, praise artwork, etc in a way that comments on a post without modifying it. “Commenting” or typing onto the body of a post is perfectly fine but it is a little more permanent and public than writing in the tags. Commenting is when you want to raise your hand and contribute to the conversation in a bigger way (which is fine to do! Don’t let anyone tell you NEVER to comment on the body of posts). Writing in the tags is like… if you were sharing a meme with a friend standing next to you and you said something aloud while you shared it. Like it’s not the body of the post its thoughts. Like I might tag the name of a character that a post reminds me of. I’m not the most extensive tagger tbh EXCEPT i try to gush about fanart when I reblog it bc the artist sees that and that is the best place to say “wow I love the coloring and the expressions.”

Also! Random note but quotation marks do not work in the tags. They will take the words between quotation marks and shift them around. I use singular ‘ ‘ marks to work as quotation marks in the tags and that’s pretty standard.

MUTUALS:

Mutuals are just people you follow who follow you back. They’re a little over-emphasized since how much “mutuals” means varies entirely on individual levels of interaction. Since the interactions go two ways it feels friendlier than the relationship between a blog and a follower, but it isn’t the end all be all.

So making mutuals is not usually an overnight thing, it is easier if you are making original posts or writing or commentary but that isn’t necessary. It starts with following people. I follow artists, fic writers from ao3 who link their blogs, blogs that post images of animals, joke blogs etc, (most people follow about 300 blogs, I follow 3000 so I’m on the high end of that spectrum). Thinking about how to explain this Hmm. The reasons I will follow someone back are very random and depend entirely on whims but include, leaving interesting/funny tags on posts reblogged from me, posting about a show or character that I follow the tags for, art/writing, if someone I follow reblogs a lot from a blog I will check out that blog as well. Uh. Patience and keep interacting and posting are the answers. Fandoms are a big thing. Some people make fandom specific side blogs just to post about one single fandom on. These are easier to make mutuals with since people are also only interested in that single fandom.

Just keep posting and interacting and people will find you eventually.

UNSOLICITED SETTINGS ADVICE

“General settings” -> “dashboard preferences” and “filtering” are your best friends for optimizing your tumblr experience.

I turn off “best stuff first” since I want to see the truly chronological feed of what gets reblogged to my dashboard. I also don’t want to see posts “liked” by blogs I follow since that’s only if they have public “likes” on and if they don’t bother reblogging it then they didn’t want me to see it. TO ME a “like” is a little thumbs up between me and the OP and reblogger, and Reblogging is me dragging posts back to share with my followers. I do want to see posts from tags I follow so I have that enabled.

ENABLE TIMESTAMPS. This is helpful in keeping track of how far back on your dashboard you are AND on knowing if a screenshot of a news headline is from today or from like 2018. Explore settings in general.

ALSO FILTERING IS YOUR FRIEND. Filtering out tags or content from the body of posts is so important for customizing your experience. I filter out stuff I have a phobia of and want to avoid, I filter out comics I think have ugly art and don’t want to see, I filter fandoms I got tired of seeing, I filter ships I don’t like, etc. That way 1. I dont see posts I don’t want to see 2. If someone I follow is constantly putting things I don’t like on my dash It helps me decide to unfollow 3. If I’m contemplating following a new blog and half of their posts are things I have filtered it helps with that decision.

Filtering will hide a post if either the Original Poster’s tags or the person who reblogged it to your dashboard’s tags include tags you have specifically filtered.

AND spoilers! Spoilers tags are soooo useful for new movies and TV. People usually tag “#show spoilers” or “#show acronym spoilers” but if I’m really worried I will content filter character names so i dont see any posts about the show at all.

So, regarding the anon who was talking about ship hate:

I have seen and received so much of that. Not a lot of it on tumblr, mostly twitter (because that site is the real hellsite), but the amount of people that will openly freak out on you for shipping something they don't or something they don't consider "canon" instead of just going "ugh you ship that?!" And then scrolling is ridiculous. No one knows how to behave anymore.

Now, everyone is allowed to like whatever the hell ship they want to; this is all fictional (and yes, I do mean whatever they want to). Just like anyone can not like a ship, for any reason at all (even if they don't have one other than "I just don't like it"). Shipping is not as serious as some people in this fandom make it out to be.

My two favorite sayings are this:

Ship and let ship.

Don't like, don't read.

Anyone can ship whatever the hell they want, and if you don't like it; ignore it and block that person. You don't need to go sending death threats or harrass them over a ship you don't like. You cannot control what other people do and do not post, you can only control what you see and do online. No one else can do that for you.

Manage your own triggers by blocking tags for things that may trigger you or that you simply don't like. No one is responsible for your triggers except for you. Only you can control what you see.

And I think this fandom forgets that.

Now, let me preface what I'm going to say next with this: I know quite a bit of this fandom are minors, and so immaturity is going to be a thing here.

I think this fandom needs to do some mental and emotional growing up.

What do I mean by that? Well, it's exactly as I said above; only you can control what you do and don't see online.

Don't like a ship? Block the tag. There's a feature on tumblr specifically for that.

Certain content maybe triggering to you? Block the tag(s)/word(s) so you don't have to see it. There's a feature on tumblr specifically for that.

Don't like a particular person for one reason or another? Don't harass them, block or mute them. Tumblr has features for that as well.

All this to say: harrassing people over shipping is dumb and childish. Please stop doing it; you need to break the habit before it consumes you.

And to the anon who is getting hate for their rare pair ship: keep posting. Don't let a few assholes discourage you from posting about something you like because it makes them feel a certain way that they don't like.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?

any of them? all of them? i have one fic with like actual words written, everything else is percolating in my mind. i have a decent track record of finishing stuff i start...but starting is difficult. i'm trying to work on that tho!! i really love writing and every time i sweet talk myself into it i'm like omg why don't we do this more often. baby cue would be horrified at how little i write.

16. What are your writing strengths?

making people cry. at the ripe-old age of 7 i decided the best writing was the kind that elicited a physical reaction, which to me was either tears or laughter and i don't think i'm funny. so bringing the pain it was.

and dialogue. i'm super picky about my dialogue and i act out convos + read exchanges out loud. i worry sometimes that i like have too many "blah blah bla-" type lines, but like when people are arguing, nobody is getting out full sentences lmao. there's a balance to it, for sure tho

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

setting/description. i have the worst White Room Syndrome ever i fear. like, okay, so writing for me typically feels like i'm watching something play out and just recording what i see, and uh what i see is usually characters interacting. sometimes they're interacting with their environment but ehhhhh. so i have to make a conscious effort to have my writing not be talking heads interspersed with chekhov's guns

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

i don't do it. too paranoid about it being wrong. i don't mind it when someone else does it, but if i was going to do it foreign language dialogue would probably be written like "<This is not English>." with a note at the beginning that dialogue in <> is X language.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

i was going to say tmnt, but then i remembered i wrote warrior cats fic way before i knew what fic was omg. stopppppp. i was like eight, i think? but like. consciously knew that i was writing fanfic? tmnt.

1. Are you named after anyone?

Yes. After a Spanish actress and someone else I think. My parents liked the name so they gave it to me.

2. When was the last time you cried?

Yesterday, when I went to my friend's mom funeral. it was a very sad moment.

3. Do you have kids?

Not yet. I definetly want to have kids someday. It's a little funny to me, because it's the only thing I am 100% sure I want in my life, everything else is a blur. I tend to be a very indecisive person.

4. What sports do you play/have you played?

As a hobby I have played tennis, in my early youth. I have sort of lost that ability since. I want to take up Badminton but I don't have money or time. I don't know if martial arts count, but I also did Taekwondo. I really miss it... but the same problem persists.

5. Do you use sarcasm?

Yes. Very often, as a joke mostly. I also might use it if I'm angry, then I become a little cruel. Thankfully I very rarely get angry.

6. What’s the first thing you notice about people?

Generally how they look. Whatever is most eye catching, ig. Then I pass onto personality pretty quickly.

7. What’s your eye color?

Brown with a tiny little bit of green. Very tiny, but it's there.

8. Scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings. I have enough bad things happening in my life to seek them out in fiction. Particlarly, scary movies tend to tire me physically because of how much tension I have in my body. I like a good scary movie, but they're so rare I don't generally go looking for them. Happy endings give me life, but good endings do even more. I would choose a sad but good/logical ending over a happy/illogical one. Let's just put more care into the final product and I'll stop complaining about current movies or shows xD

9. Any talents?

I do not know if they're talents (I have a hard time seeing them as such) but I guess I have a few. I can draw and sing pretty well, sort of play the cello, memorize lyrics pretty easily, guess how a song is gonna go pretty fast, understand other people's feelings and actions, comfort people, cry lots anywhere and in front of anybody... To say a few xD

I consider a hobby something you make, so stuff like watching shows or reading wouldn't count as such. I watch A TON of shows, and read some books. I want to go back to cello classes, and dance classes... but money....

I do not. And don't plan on having any. I hate finding hair around me (even my own hair). Idk why but it drives me crazy. I like my friend's pets but I don't think I have the energy required to have a pet.

little starry ramble post, since it's been a little bit.

As I tend to ramble very long Ill add a divider so I don't have an extremely large post across the dash, but as a summary: I'm thinking I might tell someone irl close to me about me being ficto, and I'm very nervous about it !! (kinda still on the fence if I'll actually do it or not, perhaps I'll add a little poll at the end to see if anyone wants to cast their opinion on it)

Okie. So !! As I've stated here and there before, I'm still relatively new to being ficto, and so far, aside from on this site, and a few other ficto communities, the only person in the world who knows I'm fictosexual is my therapist (who was the first person to introduce me to the possibility of a sexuality that actually fits me... and then promptly left-due to medical issues out of her control- I'm not upset at her but its easier for me to joke about losing her lmao. anyways)

No one close to me has any idea whatsoever that I am ficto, I talk about my f/o Fade all the time, but thankfully I grew up always obsessing over fictional characters (ha- who knew?) so because of that, them hearing me talk about her all the time is nothing new. I just make sure I keep it casual around them, never specifying that she and I are actually in a relationship together.

I honestly don't think I'll ever tell my parents, while I think if I did, it would take them a bit, but eventually they would accept it, I think in some ways it would genuinely break their hearts, despite knowing how happy it makes me, and idk its kinda just something I don't mind keeping from them. My brother I dont think would really care all that much, but he would probably find it a bit weird, and honestly as close as we are, it just doesn't feel important really to talk to him about.

However, I have a cousin, who I am decently close with. We hang out a few times a year (I never see other cousins unless its a family thing) and she herself, is aro/ace. I feel like out of everyone in the family, she would be the most likely to maybe understand me, and to accept me for who I am. I want to tell her, because then maybe, at least someone else irl who is close to me would at least know, and idk, I'll feel more seen? I know I talk about it on here a bunch, but it just doesn't feel as real I guess? I'm kinda just pouring my heart out to strangers on the internet haha, vs like telling someone who I could actively talk about face to face you know? Its kinda weird I know.

Me being the anxious human I am though, worries. I know some people in the aro/ace community (not everyone, but a few outliers) aren't accepting to fictosexuals. Don't get me wrong I'm still so new to being ficto, I too am kinda on the fence on whether fictosexual/romantic is really a microlabel within the aroace community (leaning for my own personal reasons though!) And I guess I just worry that maybe she is one of the few people who wouldn't accept it.

I also worry that what if she starts to think I'm "weird" and distances herself from me if I do tell her. I know widely it's a bit more common for people to self-ship, and people tend to see it as more of a fun thing to do in their free time, but for me personally, ficto is a big and very real part of my life. I know I usually add the self-ship tag to my posts to keep it more open for people to see, but I dont nearly identify with self-shipping as much as I do with being fictosexual; as in when I say that Fade is my girlfriend, I truly mean it. I'm worried that if I explain that to my cousin, she won't be as accepting as I might think.

Idk, I know I'm a very anxious person, even worrying that omg maybe she'll hate my guts after I tell her, and out me to everyone we know.

...okay I don't think she would actually do that but like thats the kind of things I think about lol.

I wish my therapist was still here for me so I could get her advice on whether I should actually do it or not, but maybe one of you guys has some thoughts on it? Feel free to send an ask, or message me privately, I'd love any advice.

it's so hard to talk about this without sounding like a stereotypical conspiracy theorist but it is increasingly blatantly obvious to me that social media apps and sites are DESIGNED to show you things you don't want to see.

i have a twitter account that is unused. it has never interacted with a post, has never followed anyone, and has never been followed. granted, i do not use twitter. obviously. that account exists so i don't have to deal with the pop-ups and can actually see posts chronologically. yet every single time i have opened twitter.com, at least one of the 3 posts i see at the top of whatever they call the for you tab is a callout post, vaguepost, or apology following a callout post. every. single. time. because that's what that tab's for. that tab is there to show you shit you hate so you engage and stay longer.

tiktok and tumblr aren't immune to this, obviously. i've run several lil experiments and tumblr actually increases the amount of posts with certain tags it shows me when i hit "not interested" enough times. that happening today is what triggered this rant.

and like yeah whatever curate your experience. but i think we also need to acknowledge that the entire system is designed to prey on you and make you angry so you make the advertisers more money.

Oh there's...a few lmao. I have a tendency to read fics that horrify me for fun, and since we're on the webbed site that likes to judge people for using the Dead Dove tag, or any of the main Archive Warning tags, I'd rather not put those fics on blast. But I have read some truly brilliantly written and fucked up fics from the Fantastic Beasts fandom, that's all I'll say.

I hate to caveat that in no way do I think any of of their actions are justified and that the villains should win and then the world would be a better place yada yada yada but well. Yes and no. I do feel bad the foundation of her story was be a woman killed for the glory of a man. And then to be remembered only as a horror, a monster to scare people with.

The modern interpretation of her story is absolutely fascinating to me and while it is still a tragic story, I absolutely love what she's come to represent. I love that her story has been rewritten to be a story of survival, of perseverance, of power even.

Things that happened: I had a hockey game and probably failed my math test

Log: still going insane. But that’s fine. I’m overthinking a lot. But that’s probably normal so. Anyway. I’ve started to learn Portuguese for no reason other than to pass time. My friend is learning it too so we can speak together but even me trying to learn that is restricted by my parents. I’m also starting to write another undertale AU with my friend. Might talk about that tomorrow, idk. Tomorrow hopefully I’ll be back for the weekend. It really sucks having to write these things and end up forgetting half of what I wanted to write. Anyway I got distracted. But for this AU, I’m trying to make a soundtrack. Then I realized there isn’t even a story :D. I’ll probably just remake most of the undertale themes and then add in what ever else I need/remove soundtracks I don’t need. This won’t be uploaded anywhere, I might post them here and YouTube, but other than that, I don’t see it going up on any music site. Just for fun. Just really another thing I’m learning. Not sure how a lot of this will help me in the future. Maybe it’ll show my parents I’m not on my phone all the time or maybe that I’m not lazy. But then again they hate anything I do that isn’t for them, school, hockey, or other clubs I’m in. Hobbies are just stupid I guess. I’m still technically not listening to them much considering when I’m drawing on my computer I’m really just watching YouTube or on discord and tumblr. I mean I do actually draw too. But. That’s also my only opportunity to be on here. So.

What fandoms do you write for? The Raven Cycle/The Dreamer Trilogy, All For The Game

What are your top 5 fics by kudos? The Road To Nowhere / Yes, Coach / Stay / The Bones of You / You go your way, I'll go your way too -- all AFTG fics. it's funny, i feel like i'm more 'known' (for want of a better word) for trc/pynch fics and i've certainly written more of them, but almost all of my aftg fics are considerably more popular if we're going by kudos.

Do you respond to comments? i used to reply to every single one without fail but it started to make me really really anxious at a time when i was writing a multi-chapter fic, because some comments really don't warrant a reply, but i got into a mindset of 'well if i reply to one comment i have to reply to all of them' and then i realised that i don't, actually! also i'm allergic to notifications so as soon as i read them i mark them as read, which makes my brain happier but also means i'm more likely to forget to reply. i always reply if someone asks a question, and i do try to at least reply to the first chunk of comments i get on a new fic though!

What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? probably burning bright right 'til the end

What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? head over heels immediately comes to mind. also kick start my rock and rollin' heart. but tbh almost all my fics have happy endings, that's just how i roll. (also a lot of them are short oneshots that are less about narrative and more about vibes, so they don't all necessarily feel like they have endings as such!)

Do you get hate on fics? nope, i've been pretty lucky so far!

Do you write smut? i very occasionally write smut-adjacent lmao, but not really

Do you write crossovers? no, they don't really interest me

Have you ever had a fic stolen? i hope not!

Have you ever had a fic translated? yes, one. i've been asked quite a lot as well and my answer is that i'm fine with my fics being translated (with credit obviously) but only if they're being posted on ao3, i don't want them on any other site.

Have you ever co written a fic? nope 

What’s your all time favourite ship? i mean i've definitely written more pynch than anything else, but i ship a lot of things!

What’s a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will? i don't wanna say that i'll never finish any of the fics i've started in earnest -- if i liked an idea enough that any of it all made it out of my head and onto a page then there's hope for it in the future. i'll get to them when i get to them!

What are your writing strengths? dialogue. it always comes the easiest to me. a lot of my fics start from conversations that popped into my head, then i get to write the situation to get that conversation to happen which is the tricky part!

What are your writing weaknesses? everything else! idk, world-building i guess? i don't think i'm that great at descriptions. i can do all the internal character feelings and emotions and stuff, it's just the external that i stuggle with.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? i haven't done it but i'm not like, against it?

First fandom you wrote for? technically lotr before i knew what fanfiction was, and i printed it out lmaoooo. i have no idea what happened to it i think i probably threw it away.

Favourite fic you’ve ever written? at the minute? Caught By The Light. ask me tomorrow and my answer will probably change!
