1: What's your feel-good movie?

Boy... I don't know how to choose. I (finally) went and looked at my movie library, and, like... I probably watch 'Groundhog Day' more than any other (though that's partially, possibly mostly, because I try to actually watch it every year on Groundhog Day); but I also have a very big soft spot for 'Charade'... and there are a bunch of other movies in there that I might turn to as well: 'WALL-E', 'Wreck-It Ralph', 'Shrek', 'Singin in the Rain'... (I'm not looking at it as I write, but there are more)

It's almost dependent on micro-moods and what I just happen to be wanting to see at that moment. I have a whole passel of them!

2: What flower would you like to be given?

I've actually received more flowers in the past month than I have in my entire life prior (it seems to have been a thing to give teachers flowers this year?), so I have new perspectives on this question.

I think my key takeaway is that variety is better. I got roses, which are... nice - they look good; they die fast. I got mums (or what I think are mums), which are multicolored, and have lasted much longer than the roses. The most recent, however, is a variety (duration TBD), which makes for both different colors but also different shapes, which I find more visually appealing.

3: What calms you down?

Space, quiet, and time. When I get worked up over something, I need time to process. Usually that looks like sitting or standing outside, just... staring... at nothing in particular, while my brain runs over and through and around and into and under and back through whatever it is that's enervated me.

4: What's your ideal date?

I think as long as it's got some kind of walk through nature, that's pretty ideal. Could be a county park, could be a beach, could be a national park forest, could be a city street with some greenery, or anything in between - as long that gets worked in there, I think that works.

5: Morning, afternoon or night?

I am definitely a night person. Left to my own devices and without any serious responsibilities, I can easily adopt a noon-4am schedule. 😅

I've been wanting to draw Hunter and Omega as Indiana Jones and Short Round since I watched "Entombed", so I'm using that as an excuse to draw the others too 😁

I've figured out everyone except Crosshair at this point. two movies I'm considering are either "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" or "The Great Mouse Detective"; I'm leaning towards the latter simply because I've never seen Roger Rabbit LOL

MY 2024 TUMBLR TOP 10

Yes I'm really late with this (totally on-brand for me 🤣) but that is the downside of waiting for 2024 to end before posting about it – and then taking too long to complete the task. Still, better late than never!

So my activity on Tumblr (particularly writing about Thai BL) took a serious dip in 2024 (especially the latter half) for a number of reasons:

Work has ramped up in the post-COVID era, with work projects now coming onstream fast and furious. This has left me with a lot less time outside of work, which translates to less time for QL-watching, and (obviously) also less time to post about it.

My favorite queer auteur Aof Noppharnach Chaiyahwimhon has decided to step back from writing and directing (see these posts here and here), and in his absence I'm finding that non-Aof QL offerings are (perhaps unsurprisingly) disappointingly patchy in quality, which has turned QL-watching into a bit of a crapshoot (and less of a draw). With my short attention span I frankly need a show to be arresting in some way to stay committed – although I must add here that I don't need it to be highbrow art, just entertaining enough without being unduly insulting to the gray matter. So even a trashy series is fine as long as it's made clear to us we have to leave our loftier expectations at the door (memories of KinnPorsche flashing in my mind here – which also tells me my gray matter can handle quite a barrage of insulting if a show is entertaining enough 🤣). I was momentarily heartened by the promise of Khun Aof helming the GeminiFourth vehicle Ticket to Heaven in 2025 (such a beautiful trailer, a lush mini-movie almost), but I've come around to thinking this is more of an activist statement by him (commenting on the mainstream Christian/Catholic position vis-à-vis LGBTQ+ issues, remembering also that Khun Aof has a Catholic background). With this as the context, there's a high chance this show will never get made due to various sensitivities (but I live in hope nonetheless!):

With Khun Aof taking more of a backseat, my main feed for BL – GMMTV – seems to have pressed the pause button on more thought-provoking fare in favor of shows that are more formulaic and mass-market (read: vehicles for their branded couples, squarely aimed at the less discriminating and freer-spending sectors of the squealing teen audience). I've written more about it at these links here and here. And it's tough to keep watching GMMTV series when the plots don't deviate much from a well-worn template, rehashing narrative tropes because the formula is a proven money-spinner. A case in point: Kidnap the Series – never thought I'd give up on a show brimming with episode upon episode of a macho, shirtless, simping Ohm Pawat, but all that radiant manflesh still wasn't enough to keep me interested, which simply goes to show how dire the situation is. 😬🤷‍♂️ And with GMMTV enticing me less and less, I've been posting even less about BL as a result too.

Anyway, this explains why I have more original posts in the first half of 2024, while the latter half was mostly reblogs of other people's posts (and in keeping with the dictates of the game I'm only listing my own posts here, for what it's worth).

So after all that, on to my Top 10 for 2024:

✨NUMBER 1✨

My most popular post of the year was about a mysterious monk who inexplicably kept popping up in various Thai BLs: 👀

Appearing in Bad Buddy, KinnPorsche and The Sign, he was also sighted in non-BLs Pee Nak (still LGBTQ+ friendly), The Cave, Hemimeta, The Believers and The Murderer, resolutely a monk in all but the last one.

So working collectively, the BL fandom somehow managed to track down and identify the actor who plays everyone's favorite BL-friendly monk – he's Werawat Jumroensarn, not actually a monk in real life but nonetheless still a highly-religious Thai Buddhist who adroitly brings a sagely, monastic vibe to all his roles. The Thai BL fandom salutes you, Khun Werawat! 🙏💖

✨NUMBER 2✨

This post was an explainer for the sudden flood of videos and GIFs on Tumblr showing Babe Tanatat all dressed up in traditional costume finery and performing a ceremonial dance somewhere outside Bangkok, while Billy Patchanon flapped about him gaily and garudaesquely in decidedly more normcore and less flashy garb.

The event turned out to be a worship ceremony put on by Idol Factory in faraway Nakhon Phanom, to honor the Great Naga of the Mekong even as The Sign deployed naga and garuda mythology in its storytelling, making waves here on Tumblr for fusing Thai supernatural beliefs with BL.

It was a highly respectful gesture from Idol Factory, thanking the nagas for allowing a representation of their story to be told as part of The Sign. Also respectful was the decision to have Billy abstain from the performance, probably because he was playing one of the garudas (who are mortal enemies of the nagas). All of which goes to show just how much belief in the spiritual and supernatural is woven throughout everyday life in Thailand. 👍

Babe, Heng and Songjet's little dance video at the link above is also breathtakingly beautiful. If I were the Naga being worshipped I'd certainly feel very honored indeed. 😍

✨NUMBER 3✨

Ooh. 😵 This was one sex-drenched post, all about the visual rhetoric surrounding Tharn and Phaya's first time consummating their forbidden love and lust for each other (at least in their current reincarnations) as portrayed in The Sign:

So hot was the subject matter that despite my clinical descriptions and focus on the art direction, Tumblr's wonky algorithms (or possibly just some overworked backroom staff? 😂) decided that it was all too... too... (swoons into a deathly faint here) unseemly for the delicate constitution of the average Tumblrina in the BL fandom. (Yeah, right. Did no one survive KinnPorsche, Pit Babe or Playboyy??? 🤣)

And so they BLOCKED IT. Not once, but TWICE, which sent me scurrying to Admin with a flurry of appeals and explanations (that finally succeeded in getting the post reinstated, thank goodness). 😬

But really, all I was doing was noting how the lighting, colors, props and cinematography were working together to echo the breathless sensuality throbbing onscreen, when our two protagonists gave in to primordial desires much greater than themselves and attempted to unite their bodies as much as they could to counterbalance the heavily pre-ordained intertwining of their souls.

I think Idol Factory did a great job all around with this scene (both the players in front of the lens as well as those behind it). But was my post really all that raunchy though? I'll have to let you decide. 🤔

✨NUMBER 4✨

Ah. Hmmm. 👀 Oops! Well, well...

I assure you, gentle reader and fellow BL fan, that I am not wholly possessed of a one-track mind – and yet somehow the next post here has also managed to turn all sexy and magenta while winking slyly at unspoken meanings hidden between the lines. Again. 🤣

Taking my Number 4 spot is a light-hearted post about Wandee Goodday nodding tongue-in-cheek at some legendary Thai porn, and this sideways jokery also shone as an example of WDGD's early charm, wit and intelligence. There was so much to look at and write about in the series, and I was especially taken with the lighting and art direction (all that yellow and magenta, standing in for Yoryak and Wandee) that I wrote reams about it.

But then… I decided not to post any of that, when the latter half of the show began to wander woozily about, punch drunk and semi-directionless, leading to an ending that turned out to be quite a letdown.

They squandered the obvious chemistry between the two leads and allowed a promising sexbuds-to-soulmates love story to meander to an unsatisfying conclusion. So many clever elements, but all set free to run wildly in a plethora of uncoordinated directions. This one disappointed me in the end, and it makes me sad to think of what might have been. But its fun moments were fun indeed, so I guess it's not a total loss. Inn Sarin really needs to start dialling back on the plastic surgery though. 😂

✨NUMBER 5✨

Oh thank goodness there was 4 Minutes for us to lose our minds over collectively in 2024. Sleek, shiny, sexy – and that was just Great's car collection (the show itself, even more so 🥰).

Ah the mystery of it all! So convoluted was the Sammon plot that I found myself churning out post after post (work deadlines be damned) trying to guess at the underlying logic coursing beneath the spooky narrative onscreen, adding to the roiling cauldron of fan theories on Tumblr aiming to explain it all.

In the end Be On Cloud chose a more middle-of-the-road resolution, but there's no denying 4 Minutes captured the imaginations of so many. I remained impressed through to the end, and I will say it again: Director Ning Bhanbhassa Dhubthien is one to watch, especially if her sure hand is allowed to rein in the excesses of Khun Pond and Dr. Sammon's wilder imaginings.

But my most popular post about 4 Minutes wasn't anything to do with the screenwriting, cinematography or directing though. 🤔

As usual, a pithy take (only nine words!) is easier to like and reblog on Tumblr, and all I did was point out a cute detail about the merchandise – when you place the black and white cat plushies (standing in for Great and Tyme) side-by-side, the random color blocks on the side of each, marring the individual symmetry, form a perfect and symmetrical heart when it's cats à deux:

And of course this is signaling how each completes the other in GreatTyme's unconventional, multi-pronged love story. Big AWWWW here 💖, but then again let's not forget how DARK it all is so let's go in with a black-and-white color scheme to remind us we ain't in Hello Kitty World, but also let's not get too dark so it's soft soft kitties all the way, but oh dear that's too cute so let's give them grumpy, frowny faces and make them look as malevolent as can be. Oh! But how then did we end up with MALEVOLENT cat plushies, spawn of brooding kittenish evil, pets and pride of Chucky? Then again, why not malevolent cat plushies for the win? 🤣

I can't help thinking the constant push and pull between commercial considerations versus artistic vision in Thai BL will always follow a similar trackway, though Be On Cloud seems to have done a better job with 4 Minutes than GMMTV on most of their offerings, is my take on the subject. 😍

✨NUMBER 6✨

OK, so I'm not watching The Heart Killers, nor have I ever seen The Taming of the Shrew (that one episode of Moonlighting and 10 Things I Hate About You don't count), but nonetheless it tickled me no end to see Shakespeare credited as a co-creator on My Drama List for this series, and my Number 6 post was a signal boost for that:

This wasn't just some editor at MDL having a lark, though I do approve. Willie Shakes is also credited on other Asian productions there (As We Like It and The Banquet) and he now has his own MDL page too. 😂👍

Anyway, credit where credit is due! 😍 (Move over Mr. Kaewpanpong, a new William has joined the BL fold. 🤣)

What's up with the 'l' in Tul Pakorn's name sounding more like an 'n'? WHAT DO YOU MEAN Suvarnabhumi is pronounced more like Suwannapoom!? 👀😂

I now have a better understanding of the linguistic (and socio-political/cultural) contortions going on behind the scenes here after watching Pai's video, and I hold her encouraging words to heart (as dear @recentadultburnout reminded me in a comment on the post 🥰): "Whatever you do, it's just all various degrees of wrong." 🤣 Not a put-down, simply Pai letting us know that the language is far more complex than can be summarized with the puny 26 letters of the English alphabet. 👍🤩

And rounding up my Top 10 was a signal boost bit of BL reportage, linking to the GoyNattyDream in-car interview on YouTube with Mew Suppasit and Tul Pakorn, BL royalty and officially a couple in real life:

Mew and Tul had soft-launched confirmation of their romance in the months preceding with tons of social media posts showing them hanging out and holidaying together, but from what I can gather this was the first time (or if not the first, at least one of the earliest times) they out-and-out confirmed their relationship, and candidly spoke about it, on the record. 💖

A big step for Thai BL, that paradoxically has to operate in an industry where people in positions of influence can sometimes be homophobic to actors who are (or even suspected of being) queer in real life. 👀

Welcome to my catharsis😶

Whoa is me, for real-real.

Damn, I am like a baby learning how to walk here on Tumblr and I'm not quite sure how I feel about myself writing this. Anyone who truly knows me real life would be astonished that I'm posting anything, especially this.

Admittedly, I was a more casual fan of Bton pre-Polin S3. I was always excited with all things England Regency era, Jane Austen books and all show/movie adaptations, all period dramas really, shout out to Downton Abbey, The Gilded Age and "The Duchess" was amazing (Keira Knightley is the GOAT). The Painted Veil is an understated fave of mine too. You all get it, I love period dramas.

Previously, I was adamantly anti social media, like at all. No FB, Insta, Tiktok, Tumblr. Nothing. Seriously. I did peruse Reddit for tidbits about things that I enjoy, guess that counts against my sm blackout. Just thought it wasn't for me, have enough problems with my own thoughts. Like how were other people's thoughts going to make my brain better, especially if I fervently disagreed?

Then a seismic shift occurred after S3 part 2 dropped, eek!Cue my embarrassment; after an embarrassingly way too many rewatches of P1, my fam and friends were astonished that I suddenly made an Instagram acct😬. Little did my nearest and dearest know it wasn't to see their most recent hike or to watch a nephew sledding for the first time. I GOT SM ACCOUNTS BECAUSE OF BRIDGERTON S3. OMG, WHO THE FUCK AM I??? Shame, shame, she knows my name.

Am I surprised that I am looking at posts gossiping about Netflix characters? Do I feel conflicted about looking at posts trashing people I don't know? Am I this invested in the scandalous/benign actions of two 24 year old adjacent people for real life people? Am I this person?

All in, with honesty, I guess it's 4 yesses and I'm struggling to come to an understanding of the morality of the yesses.

I wrote this post after seeing some deleted SOHO house bathtub screenshots that I hadn't seen and was enthralled, whilst also watching Colin tell off Portia on my tv in my bedroom.

Send help, not sure if this is problematic or healthy. I'm sure I'm not the only person who feels like this. I've never ever been a "shipper" or this weirdly fascinated like this about a freaking tv show.

My hottest take on disability media is that this film (as much as it deserved a good 90% of it's backlash; my GOD it was ableist, harmful, horribly written, horribly paced, and clearly not well thought-out) ...would NOT have been as poorly received had the titular character had low-support needs as opposed to high.

I'm serious. I saw that some of y'all's knee-jerk reactions were "AUTISTIC PEOPLE DON'T ACT LIKE THAT!" and "BUT I'M NOT LIKE THAT!" and... I mean? Yeah? She's one girl, she obviously can't represent the whole spectrum.

But I'm sick of this lateral ableism, "I'm-not-like-other-girls"-esque attitude some of us Autistics have towards the others. We learn to look down upon those who can't take care of themselves or get by in the world like we can; the ones who can't mask; the ones who are sometimes dealt the most abuse in life because they'll never have the privilege of being able to verbally speak up against it or live without a caretaker. Because what often happens is:

Autistic people who need a lot more support than we do wind up becoming allistics' Default Setting™️ idea of Autism.

Autistic people who are very different (usually more independent, sharper intellect and maybe inclined towards more mature[?] interests) then come into those allistic people's lives.

The allistics then begin to infantalize them the same way they infantalize the Default Setting™️ Autistic people around them, then refuse to listen when asked/begged to stop; denial of autonomy.

Instead of directing the VERY warranted disgust, anger and resentment towards the ableist allistic people doing this to us, we direct it towards the initial victims of this treatment; who, frankly, ALSO don't deserve to be treated like literal babies or burdens like that in the first place!

Instead of trying to find solidarity? In-fighting ensues.

I don't know, that's always irked me and it's been in my brain for like four years. Because think about how much we learned in a short period of time around the movie's release. The woman...

Forced a 14-year-old Allistic child to imitate a disabled person when she didn't want to;

TAUGHT her to do so via forcing her to watch meltdown videos filmed & posted by Autistic kids' parents (likely without the child's consent);

Dissed Autistic actresses online for no fucking reason, really.

Named a movie after a disabled child character who's treated more like a prop and isn't even centered in the film's story (and lowkey repeated the pattern twice, if you guys remember Felix's storyline. He was just shoved into this for like... sadness points?)

Teams up with the "most popular" Autism organization even though it has been VERY accessible and public knowledge for years that they've earned a pretty negative reputation for themselves.

Portrays unnecessary prone restraint as a GOOD thing.

...And has MULTIPLE instances of questionably racist undertones. Including within the first 5 seconds of the film.

And yet, some of y'all's priority was the fact that "I'm not like that! I'm FUNCTIONAL!"

...Yeah. Yikes.

Something tells me that Music would've gotten significantly less backlash had Maddie been made to portray somebody who could consistently speak verbally, stimmed in more subtle ways, and didn't have so many meltdowns.

We feel so much shame & discomfort at just sharing a diagnosis with somebody more disabled than ourselves that we will reject it (and them) the moment it happens, without a second thought. Because the thought of being treated by abled society as even more disabled than we are already terrifies us. Because we KNOW that disabled people as a whole are not treated well.

Hell, clearly Sia internalized something like that as well because she wound up being diagnosed as Autistic herself, and she WROTE the damn thing!

Yeah, I've... got a couple of words for all this. 😬

Jack & Joker - Ep 10

What an emotional and eventful episode✨

Of course I can't help but start with their 🔥 scene. Everything was very beautifully shot, visually and colorfully a bit like old Hong Kong movies, full of half-tones, very lovely. Yin and War delivered, but no surpise here, it's them. I really liked how they were together in this scene, a very pleasant reference to MaxTul, those muscles, sounds, smacking on naked body, grabbing it, passion and desire at the highest levels, but lined with playfulness, carefreeness, love 😏 In both couples we can see what I always appreciate very much, that is, their naturalness and that as a viewer I have no doubts that these characters played by these actors are super horny for their lovers 😤 Special mention of the Ikea clothes rack, because I recently assembled exactly that type, so I kind of relate, cue Di Caprio pointing at tv meme lol. (hot muscle daddies who push themselves into it for my entertainment were not included in my clothes rack set, I think I'll file a complaint).

The scene with Joke's father: siiiiiiiiigh but yeah, sadly I expected this, I also expected to hear: "we actually love you and miss you / but why didn't you visit us, we were waiting for you god you screwed up again". I don't know how you can go from "he's not my son" and "a thief is always a thief" to "come home for dinner", but what do I know, right? I was prepared for this, I still hate it.

The constant references to death, the repeated words about farewell, about forgiveness, returning as a ghost 😬, don't fill me with any particular optimism. I'm 99% certain of a happy ending, but… I am starting to worry a little. There is also an option that in the finale we will have a time skip 🙄 due to Joke, Jack, or both of them being in prison.

I also watch with neverending sadness Joke's low self-esteem and how he thinks that he doesn't deserve anything good, and how easily he is able to throw away his happiness, ruin his future.

As a big fan of communication between characters, between lovers, I have a "I told you so" moment that doesn't give me any satisfaction tho, it's just too sad. Because technically, objectively, almost everything actually is Joke's fault (I know that Boss is first and mainly to blame) and he constantly does things behind Jack's back - with the best and purest intentions - but still. He keeps throwing himself into situations, sacrificing himself completely, just to help Jack, but in reality… well. He only gets him more into trouble every time. Joke never asks Jack if he wants his "help", he just decides for him. Besides, Jack clearly told him not to try to help him anymore. I wholeheartedly support them, but looking from the outside, this is not a healthy relationship, in which there is so little honesty, trust and communication. And in which one has clear, unaddressed tendencies towards self-destruction, not taking into account his health, life, or even the possibility of being in prison again.

Save and attempts to whitewash him "because he's stuck too" and "there's no other way for him" irritate me. Oh he's sorry? He's sad? Well, his victims don't even have that luxury, because they're dead. Save didn't even try to soften what he's doing, trying to help somehow, warn Boss's victims, he just did what he was told without hesitation and on top of that showed unnecessary overzealousness. I don't want to hear that he's "like the others" because he actively works for Boss without even trying to mitigate the evil he's doing. Sorry, but fuck this guy.

I've seen emerging controversies related to trans characters, who seem to be treated worse in J&J. Please remember that during the first ring heist, in the same ep Noo Lek was treated badly and a male model was also attacked and beaten, who was completely innocent, who earns money for a living with his face and his body, so this beating was doubly bad. And regarding Jennie's character being thrown from a height: in the same episode, a literal child was also thrown from a height (and survied because of the plot armor, let's be honest). I know it seems like trans people are treated worse, but in this show, something bad happens to someone all the time, people are hounded, beaten, tortured, attacked, poisoned, exploited, cheated, forced to sell their body parts (!) and no one is spared, including children and the elderly. I think we noticed what seems like a pattern because there are simply more of trans / non binary people than in other series, and they are just as much victims of the system.

So a lot happened, I'm starting to worry a little about the ending, so I'll go back to my favorite moment in this episode: Jack grabbing Joke by the chin and guiding him to a kiss and then pinning his hand 🔥

You never were sure how you hated him; and you were even less sure as you heavily inhaled his scent, trying to grasp onto something in this reality as he buried himself inside you. None of it would be fitting as you think back to days where you chewed your lip in frustration and your fist balled at your side. A part of your heart was set ablaze looking into his eyes. Not from love but from sadness.

He'd been so ugly to others and yet he had moments that put a twist in your chest like a sad movie. The sad blonde boy was a bully. He was beautiful though, intelligent and loyal to those he was actually close to. You friends so suffered from his torture would be disgusted and you wanted to say sorry but the only thing leaving your mouth was cries of pleasure.

Can someone's good qualities really weigh more than their bad ones?

Your eyes glazed with tears of endearment and your body shook in the intense intimacy of it all. His breath was shallow like he'd pass out. All those years of pain and yet he still managed to make you feel like you needed to hold him, care for him.

"I've wanted you for so long" he sighed, hands beside your head gently holding him above you. You were trapped, not only with this position but inside. A piece of you always fighting for him even after he hurt people.

When you saw him across the lot his blue eyes gleamed by the tree he used to sit in and his hand rested on the old bark. You couldn't stop yourself from walking his way. You did so stubbornly, walking slowly like being near him made your blood boil but when he saw you he looked guilty.

Remember what he did, remember he hurt your friends, your thoughts repeated and soon you were biting your cheek enough to fill your mouth with the coin taste of blood. How could you be near him after what he did? How could you walk over here like he wasn't responsible for deaths? How could you even breathe his air?

"I'm sorry" he moaned softly, seeing the tears in your eyes and you only whined in response. You were dancing in flames and ice. It felt so good but made you burn with guilt as he slammed harder. If he could bring you pleasure and make you forget he'd do so until he was the only thing buried in your thoughts. Your hands moved to his back and hissed. It took you a while to realize you were breaking the skin.

Were you pulling him deeper inside your sensitive walls or trying to hurt him?

The tears falling from your eyes could have been from pleasure or sadness for your friends who will never breathe again. He didn't stop you as drew blood from his pale skin he only leaned in closer to your neck. His wet tongue touches you lightly along with his Breath. He kissed you softly, whispering about how he hoped you'd forgive him but he'd cuss every now and then as clenched around him or when his tip, just as sensitive as you, hit the soft spot inside you.

Your head falls back giving him more access to your neck as you soft moans fill the air. You were stung like a trader as you called out to him wrapping your legs around his waist. It was like swimming in a pond of lust. Cold water felt heated, the deepest, dirtiest things said out loud and did as god watched from above. Part of you knew you should stop and beg for forgiveness but it felt so good and so intense as it rushed through your veins.

You floated in the river hunger for more, dripping for anyone willing to offer you touch and in walks Draco Malfoy making you weaker with every whisper and touch of his finger tip. His blonde hair was sweaty like his skin and you know the cuts you made would burn. He was so beautiful like this, desperate for you and groaning and grunting as he went deeper. It was almost evil how he ruined you, chasing his end.

In this moment you loved him with the burn in your belly and hated him with your thoughts. This was the start of a wildfire, so much trouble would be caused but this is why they called bad boys troublemakers. Once you get a taste of the sweet heaven, lord knows he'd never hear you ask for him again unless you were screaming his name while committing a sin.

Everyone wants to go to heaven but you experienced it on earth and you hated how good it felt Cumming for the enemy…

I just finished watching Love Syndrome: The Beginning and... I actually really liked what they did with the source material. It's interesting that this and the series are by the same production company and director but other than the choice of skinny jeans (someone must have been a big fan lmao) and Tuss reprising his role as Neil, the movie has a very different vibe imo.

It's also unfinished, meaning it ends on a cliffhanger with a big 'to be continued' - which probably isn't intentional seeing as they were originally aiming for a cinematic release (not to mention the sudden passing of the producer/director). I can't blame them either because I think they made the deliberate decision to mostly leave this as is to honour the director's final work:

As it is, I think the movie is a very solid piece of entertainment with some really nice acting, especially by Bix Tagon as Itt.

I've read most of the novels in the Love Syndrome universe and they're actually very same-y with the same non-con kink repeated throughout pretty much every couple's story (and there's A LOT of couples). This is why Day and Itt were never my faves (especially since the tropes really be troping with these two) and tbh I wasn't really into Long and Frank's version of them either (which isn't their fault at all - I just don't think Frank was a good fit for Itt), but Nef and Bix really make them work for me this time.

For one, there's zero romanticisation. Day is positively unhinged and there's zero doubt that Itt is the victim here. The scenes between them are incredibly brutal to watch but at the same time there's this almost stageplay-like feeling to them - as if every little piece of dialogue and acting has its place and nothing is drawn out or glossed over. I really appreciated that (as difficult as their scenes were to watch). I don't think that's easy to accomplish. I saw in some of the bts that they worked closely with either an acting coach or an intimacy coordinator (or both) throughout the filming of Day and Itt's scenes and imo it really shows. As bad as it sounds because Day is such a horrible person and Itt is straightup going through hell, theirs really were the most interesting scenes in the movie for me.

According to MDL Nef and Bix are rookie actors too so kudos to them for doing an incredible job. I hope we get to see more of them especially since Day and Itt's story is far from finished and I'd really like to see if they can pull off the transition from toxic hate to toxic love (imo it didn't work at all in the series, mostly because it started with book 3).

As for Gear and Night, they chose to almost completely sanitise their story (except for the initial bet itself) which imo was a good choice because in the novel reading about the same trope over and over again got tired real fast. Night takes Gear back relatively quickly and then they just pick up where they left off (but with Night more or less in control now).

Plus, Tiger Tanawat (who btw is a Change 2561 artist) as Night is such a mood:

There's also some cute Four and Gus moments that unfortunately (or fortunately - seeing as how the writer of the novel also seems to have an age gap kink that's better left unmentioned 😬) gloss over most of their story. Knot, Fu and Neil kind of appear but that's about it.

I wonder - providing we ever get to see the second part of this movie - if they'll scrap the horrible Neil as the villain side plot or not because I could totally do without that. 😬😬

That being said, if you thought The Effect was difficult to stomach then you probably shouldn't watch this. Love Syndrome never hides the fact what it is about but it unfortunately doesn't offer any content warnings. Its SA scenes are explicit and realistic so if that's upsetting to you please please don't watch this. 🙏

I didn't know Akasha and Lestat was like a victim /abuser relationship, why are people making it seems like it was something sexy??? I've never read the books or watched the movie I just thought Akasha x Lestat looked good but trust me I will see them differently now.

Well, that’s how I read it. Given that the show heightens all the toxic elements of the relationships? I definitely expect them to go dark with it.

It was a kind of romance in the movie.

But the movie… is a whole mess (no Louis, Lestat finds his true love with Jesse and so on), so that’s nothing to go by, imho. 😬

I've always been kinda of hot and cold with Austin and Kaia. I didn't have much of an opinion of them. They had moments back when they first got together, where it seemed kinda of sweet. Austin seemed to be into her. Especially at Cannes. I know a lot of it was played up on the red carpet. But the small moments inside the theater. Baz was giving his speech after the movie played. Austin was kissing Kaia's hand. He winked at her. He was smitten.

But I did start to notice how much media coverage these two were getting, which was off putting. Then I heard about Kaia dating JE and after only a month, she went public with Austin. Major red flag. Which made me start thinking something about this wasn't right.

But again, I was always hot and cold. but leaning more towards cold. something about them doesn't seem normal.

I think what changed everything for me was May of this year. That's when I noticed some weird stuff happening and things seem to have shifted for Austin. So towards the end of May, we got those photos of Austin and Kaia walking in NY. That's when a lot of people started to notice how unhappy they looked. This was right before Austin started the press tour for the Bikeriders. In general, most of the media coverage about their realtionship was always relationship timelines. A few articles here and there. Mostly from Kaia's side of PR. Austin side really only chimed in to squash the engagement rumors.

But then this article from People's Magazine came out talking about how Austin and Kaia are "still going strong" and "very much in love". I thought it was super odd. Was anybody really wondering about their status? The wording definitely sounded like it was coming from Kaia's PR. But then I got to thinking and it was for sure deflection and damage control. Because people did pick up the shift in their dynamic. I mean they both looked miserable. You know when you have to tell the world your relationship is good and you're still in love, usually means it's not. Deflection at it's finest.

Then Austin does the Indy500 the next day and looks so happy to be around Jodie. A stark contrast to his mood with Kaia just days prior. He looked happier to be around his co-star than his long term girlfriend. Odd. Well, a couple of days later L&S publishes this article titled "Austin and Kaia have nothing in common and they both know it" --😬 I was intrigued. We hadn't gotten anything like this before. Especially for this article to come out only a few days after Kaia's PR just said how happy they were.

The wording of this L&S article for sure came from Austin's PR team. Very rarely does Austin address his private life. Especially his relationship with Kaia. But this article really highlighted his frustrations with her. Her lack of work ethic. Her upbringing. Essentially how different they are. Kind of drawing attention to one of the main issues people have with their relationship. Aside from the age gap, which is still a big deal. They really don't have anything in common. I feel like it was really highlighted during his press tour with Jodie.

The chemistry he and Jodie had in their interviews was refreshing and a joy to watch. I know they were promoting a movie. But it still felt natural. He was flirty, laughing, all smiles. Never seen that with Kaia since 2022 Cannes. That was a long time ago.

Then all of a sudden, media kept trying to bring up Kaia in interviews. I thought that was so strange to. Why all of a sudden is their relationship being brought up? Kaia pretty much brought attention to it by having her team publish that People Magazine article about them "going strong" again, no one was asking.

Since then a lot has happened. But the amount of paparazzi walks hasn't been lost of me. They always happen when Kaia needs to promote something. Which is shady that she uses Austin to do it. But then in July I noticed how off these two looked. May was bad. July was worse. I mean Austin looked like he could barely tolerate her. Here we are in August and nothing has changed. Something is off.

I agree that there was a time back in 2022 when Austin and Kaia seemed kind of happy. I believe that Cannes 2022 is probably the happiest they've ever looked together as a couple. It was a major event and a huge moment for Austin in his career, so a lot of that lovey-dovey feeling and PDA was probably due to the emotional excitement of the event. (just a theory)

Like you mentioned, something over the past year and a half has changed drastically in their relationship. May of this year (the NY pics) was definitely a turning point to me as well. I think that was the first time they looked so disjointed and the most miserable I'd ever seen them look together.

Yes! I totally agree with you that the People.com article about them being "so in love" and "going strong" definitely reeked of damage control. I feel like anytime a celebrity couple has to try to remind people of how in love and "going strong" they are, there's usually something going on bts, and it's typically the total opposite of what they're reporting.

I personally feel that the damage control article was put out from sources to People.com because her team knows that the pics of them in NYC looked like they were miserable, and so they wanted to try to clear the air.

The dimly lit room was filled with the hushed voices of the boys that prepared for their movie night. Ghost, Gaz, Soap, Price, König, and you had all gathered around a large screen in the basement of your base. They had chosen a horror movie, expecting that you, the newest addition to their team, would be scared out of your wits.

But little did they know that horror movies don’t have an impact on you since you grew up watching saw and other brutal shit.

"Alright, lads and lass," Price said, settling into his seat with a mischievous glint in his eye, "we've got a real spine-chiller for tonight. Let's see who's the first to jump out of their skin."

The opening credits of the movie rolled, eerie music accompanying the names of the actors and the sinister title. Ghost, who was sitting beside you, leaned in and whispered, "Get ready to be terrified, little soldier."

You simply grinned and replied, "Oh, I love a good horror movie. I doubt anything can spook me."

As the movie's suspenseful music built, the tension in the room grew palpable. The first jump-scare approached, and the team watched with bated breath. But when the horrifying image flashed on the screen, you burst out laughing.

Gaz and Soap exchanged surprised glances. "What's so funny, y/n?" Gaz asked.

You shrugged, your eyes still on the screen. "It's just... so over the top. Look at that fake blood. It's practically neon!"

The team couldn't believe it. As the movie continued, the scary scenes kept coming, and you continued to react with amusement rather than fear. You found the whole experience rather comical, pointing out the clichés and tropes as the story began to unfold.

Price, who was trying his best not to smile, muttered, "I've never seen someone find a horror movie this entertaining."

König, who had been observing silently, joined in. "You have a point. It's like you're watching a comedy, not a horror movie."

During a particularly gory scene, you didn't flinch, but instead commented, "Wow, they really went all out with the fake blood and special effects. It's like they're trying to see how creative they can get with it."

Ghost couldn't help but chuckle. "You've got a weird perspective. Most folks would be hiding under the covers by now. Literally, what’s wrong with you?"

As the movie reached its climax, the rest of the team started to relax. They had expected a night of screams and shivers, but your lighthearted approach had lightened the mood.

In the end, when the movie finally concluded with a final jumpscare, the rest of the team waited for your reaction. But instead of fear, you burst into laughter, clapping your hands. "That was brilliant! Such a funny scene! Literally saved the whole movie!"

Price leaned back in his chair, shaking his head in amusement. "Well, I'll be damned. You've got nerves of steel, y/n."

The others couldn't help but agree, and they all started to laugh as well. The horror movie had turned into an unexpected comedy night, thanks to you being unable to be scared.

As you all left the room, still chuckling and recounting the movie's amusing moments, König approached you and said, "You certainly have a way for finding humor in the darkest places, Soldat. It's quite… different.."

I know that a while back you were saying the reasons why people might not like him and it boiled down to him fucking up in big important moments and also how he and Hermione ended up together wasn't great

But can i ask what makes him capable of cheating in your eyes? Because cheating's not just having sex with someone other than your gf or bf

It's also kind of saying a one night stand was more important than not breaking your partner's heart and more importantly their ability to trust others and they've been friends for so long i find it hard to believe he would do that to her

Now bear in mind i haven't read the books I've only watched the movies which is why I'm asking you this....and this is in no way a criticism of your work

well, if you think movie Ron was okay you def wouldn’t think book Ron would do that! I guess the thing is that no one who cheats has a thought process like ‘welp time to go break my lovers heart into a thousand pieces by getting black out drunk and hooking up with a girl who used to be besties with my dead ex-girlfriend when she throws herself at me at the bar, also black out drunk, also deplorably sad.’ For Ron specifically, his character flaws were that he always wanted his own sort of fame, was resentful of always being in Harry’s and his brothers shadows, and he tended to make stupid decisions when he got some attention of his own (which is how lavender happened in the first place, even though he wanted hermione. Guess you could also add Viktor Krums shadow to that list). So, much more attention + being away from his gf for long periods of time + being wasted etc etc = making an even bigger, stupider decision.

anyway I’m not justifying it, or even saying I think it’s a totally canon Ron move. But it’s possible. Anyone is possible of doing any number of hurtful things if the set up is right. And that’s just what I decided to do for this fic - in NG, he would never. But they’re also married so there’s that 😬

i had an idea for a fic where each scene would be a different decade, following the changing life of a woman (sash) and her radio as it plays the music of different eras, and for some reason it feels right to write it as a play, which i've never done.

i'd have to read a lot of plays to understand the format, and honestly watch movies from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s to get the vibe right. i'm also torn between basing it around the queer scene from the usa, and the one from my country, which makes it dicey because, well. things were particularly fucking bad for queer people in the 70s and 80s 😬
