About your language brainrot. I see your "Reader's writing can't match tyvat's long and flowery writing" and bring you "Tyvat isn't used to books over 50 pages long so a short story to the Reader is a whole dictionary to tyvat readers".
Seriously, have you seen how thin the books are? They don't wrote novels, they write short chapters formatted in the way really old stories are. As in, summarizing all the events down into one smooth story then adding a few quotes. Fanfiction writers are insane. They will willingly sit down and write hundreds of words at a time. To them, a proper modern day story of maybe, oh 10k words or so, would probably be like the Oddessy itself.
If we were to combine the two headcanons. It would end up as many historians being intimidated by this insanely long written scripture in the language of the forgotten.
I'm going to take this a step further and say that if the creator asked some people to proofread their things, it would establish a hiarchy of who is able to actually finish the book the creator read and who isn't.
NOW THIS, THIS IS MY FUCKING JAMMMM
I'm so sorry this is so old!! u probably all know this by this point that I've really slowed down as the year has gone on, but I graduated university and then got my first job so its been pretty crazy!

FULL STOP.
THE AKADEMIYA, FONTAINE RESEARCH INSTITUTE, HAVE BEENĀ WAITTTINNGGGGĀ ON YOUR ASS LMAO
You fall from the fucking sky like a 5 star, or pop out of the Irminsul or whatever
and immediately areĀ mobbed by scholars.Ā LMAO jkjkĀ (not really, bc that's what itā€™d feel like)
can you evenĀ imagineĀ the dread older stories(ā€the classicsā€ to them), that was instilled in the poor students around Teyvat??
id like to think ur works are the most preserved over the thousands of years of Teyvat archeologists excavating them, in comparison to other authors (teyvat just likes you more, suck it William Shakespeare)
also,Ā bc I cant resist language differences/world building I'm sorryyyy šŸ˜ šŸ˜
the vocab of Genshin lang vs. ours, has significantly less vocabulary like their actual dictionary isĀ 1/3 the size of oursĀ type of energy
(Omfg all ur fanfics being considered likeĀ insanelyĀ long realistic romantic classics or tragedies like Jane Austen-level, and only the richest and biggest play companies put on plays about ur stories bc the script goes on forĀ hours)
(ur plays only get put on for rlly big events bc of this, like Lantern Rite or like a Summer/Winter festival/your birthday, which is, yes, an international holiday)
dude the sheer power move of anything youā€™ve written being essentially ā€œJourney of the Westā€ to them, likeĀ Damnnn.
endless like adaptations, plays, Teyvat-short stories condensing it, (THEIR OWN FANFICTION ABOUT UR STORIES)
the power is, in fact, going to your head every time another scholar both deflates at how long ur stuff is, but also lights up bc they get to read it
speaking of scholarsā€¦ you know who snatched you up first. you know. you donā€™t even need to read the next line.
Alhaitham.
sneaky bastard he is,Ā absolutelyĀ manipulated, mansplainedĀ (and manwhored bc he knows heā€™s handsome, cheeky little shit)Ā his way into getting you to sit down with him and interview you about both translating other classics, your own, giving your own analysis of others works and ur own, and picking ur brain apart of how/why you wrote urs, etc. its fucking endless,
Kaveh had to come rescue you bc u were starving to death after getting stuck with the Haravatat scholar in his office for nearlyĀ 7 hoursĀ ofĀ interrogationĀ discussion about literature
and Alhaitham wasn't even nearly done, heā€™d informed you as you left that he already had another appointment for later conversation scheduled (how?? you don't even know ur own schedule??? you have a schedule???) and was looking forward to more of your ā€œcreative and enlightening inputā€ :)))
(youā€™re never going to escape him, not even Nahida herself can save you from his stubborn ass)
On another note, Xingqiu is quaking when you agree to autograph his copy of your stories (of which he has all hard covers of the first edition translations)
Zhongli/Rex Lapis is known for having a near-lifelong passion for searching forĀ your worksĀ specifically, and learning how to translate them better into Teyvatian vernacular
like the same way he can absolutely speak on Rex Lapis facts/rocks/adepti info, is the same confidence he speaks about knowing ur work lol
(yes he did also ask for several autographs and another sit-down talk about the works, tho a lot more sneaky then Alhaitham bc he just casually gets u guys into it during dinner)
Barbatos/Venti has written some of the most famous songs based on your stuff, he has his favorites too,
but he always claims the best songs are any that have been written in the story, like either when a character sings something, or there are like quotes from songs ur fanfics are based on lol
(he also demanded to hear what they actually sound like from you, yes, youĀ haveĀ to sing them for him lol)
Venti also can surprisingly drunkenly ramble the entirety of at least one of ur stories, like,Ā word for wordĀ lmao
(Diluc gave in and did give him a drink on the house for that one, just once, Venti doesnā€™t remember it lol)
(I forgot to mention, u guys still speak the same language, just like, different versions of it)
ur works being one of the few things all the Archons can freely talk about with each other, like itā€™s neutral ground bc theyā€™re all fangirling about it lmao
Furina and Neuvillette have had like,, fierce debates over the decades about character dynamics and the general drama of ur stories, theyā€™ve gotten into it enough theyā€™ve stopped talking to each other for a couple days a few times lol
Albedo, Sucrose, Kokomi, Yae Miko, Ei, Raiden, have read every single work theyā€™re gotten their hands on in Teyvat (it took them like a literal year or longer)
Albedo drew you fanart for every single story, bc heā€™s hyperfixated on everything related to you ngl,
Kokomi had commissioned smaller pocket versions of ur works (which later got popular thanks to Yae Miko) both the OG and the Teyvat shortened versions
THE HARBINGERS ARE THE MOST DOWN BAD LMAO
Childe hasĀ literallyĀ tried to recreate battle scenes from ur works lmao
and gets especially riled up about fighting someone who resembles any characters from them (esp villains, what a cutie)
You cannotĀ fathomĀ the amount of research throughout Teyvat that has been secretly or indirectly funded by Pantalone/Tsaritsa
from the experts to analyze them, to funding play companies to act them out, to actually excavating places to get more of ur stuff unearthed
(the Harbingers absolutely are the first group of people that got to read several of ur stories first bc of this, like the worldā€™s most exclusive secret book club lol)
Scaramouche used to clown on Childe all the time about how he was too impatient to even ā€œsit down and read the Kingā€™s classicsā€, and he was downrightĀ insufferableĀ when he found out about Tartagliaā€™s habit of recreating battle scenes/that being what motivated him to fight sometimes lol
that being said, Wanderer surprisingly never forgot ur stories.
Even when his memories were wiped for a bit, he found comfort in these fantastical epics still sticking around, even when his old names did not
(he mayyyy or mayyy nottt have secretly namedhimselfafteroneofthetragicprotagonistsherelatesto- )
oh btw, Nahida also found joy and comfort in ur stories when she was trapped, they also helped her literally grow as a person bc she had ur stories to help her sort of process the world/what life was like outside of her dreaming prison šŸ„ŗšŸ’”ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹
ā—‡
OMFG
ANYWAY FULL TONE SHIFT LMFAO-
the ABSOLUTE SPIRAL-RED-STRING-CONSPIRACY-THEORY-BOARD ENERGY IF THIS WAS A BLUNT LANGUAGE AU LMAOOOO
like specifically how Teyvatians like to give all the context ever thru their words, but older deities/beings like you just do simple phrases that can have deeper meanings (whereas teyvat just explainsĀ allĀ the meanings behind their words)
STOP thereā€™s like anĀ official displayĀ at the Akademiya and Fontaine Institute of red string theory boards šŸ˜šŸ˜Ā (look what youā€™ve done to themmm LMAO)
for like every story of urs, INCLUDING THE FANFICS STOP
IMAGINE THE SHIPPING WARS IF U EVER WROTE ONE THAT WASNT EXPLICIT OR LIKE ONE OF THE MAIN ROMANTIC INTERESTS HAD CHEMISTRY WITH OTHER CHARACTERS HAHAHAHAA
that'sĀ actuallyĀ what Akademiya scholars argue about the most viciously, itā€™s like politics you canā€™t just bring up ships from ur stories casually in regular convos šŸ’€
(poor Cyno has to deal with a shipping war once a year bc someone always makes the mistake of reading ur work for the first time (without being told to not talk to others abt ships lol) and it starts an all out brawl in the cafeteria every time LMAO)
Also yes.
Cyno is a fanboy.
(he has read Creator x Reader-insert fanfiction.)
(As have most of the characters mentioned, and those not lol)
ā€¦
(I'm gonna make a whole Creator x reader fanfic post one day i stg lmao)

these are my thoughts on interview with the vampire episode 5 season 2
I've heard a few things about this episode, I've been really wanting to watch it just havent had had the time yet. I've also heard that they don't actually unpack any of it.which seems pretty on brand for them
(6:10) Sometimes, ii think i have bad handwriting, but then thereā€™s danielā€™s, which makes my feel a lot better about my own
(7:52) definitely gay (8:11) definitely
This whole interview is just a who can be the sassiest and most insane old gay guy possible
(9:46) daniel is like that one fall out boy song, he spent an entire decade high and doesn't remember any of it (or that he is gay)
(10:04) i like how they had him standing at the window, it's a nice touch
(12:53) if i just found out that vampires are real, i think i would be pretty fucking afraide too
I've been painting my nails while watching and ended up skipping on of my nails
(13:35) that was perfect, it was so close to quoting the book, it was good enough that i even recognised it before i even looked up the first few pages
(16:03) I like this louis more than the other few, heā€™s so much more fun and happy instead of seeming like he only sort of wanted to be there.
(17:18) it's no wonder he doesn't remember the first interview, he looks like he could barely stand if he wanted to
(22:55) 70ā€™s armand is millennial grey
(24:21) i think someone is a little jealous (another weirdly spelled word) ((25:19) and the other one is schizophrenia), i also think two someones need to go the marriage therapy
(26:16) well that took quite a turn, and i think its shows their relationship well, how even thought why both had just yelled at each other, armand still saved him right away, and then, though i haven't gotten there yet, i assume that armand made him forget how bad it hurt, (38:22), i take parts of that back, armand basically torched him, they really do need therapy, i'm surprised they didn't end up killing each other in the time between the interviews
(29:23) poor daniel got caught in the middle of their messed up relationship
(30:01) for some reason, i thought the guy in the bag was daniel, and somehow he was revived and turned into a vampire, i clearly didn't think this through much because now that i'm thinking about it again, there in no way that would have worked
Armand is supposed to look 17, he looks 20 or so, i know his actor is somewhere in his 20ā€™s and he did play him well, i don't think they could have done the show the same way if he was played by a younger actor.
(38:22) about time
(45:31) louis is quite a jump scare when the rest of your room is dark and quite
(51:01) once again, not talking about the problems
OTHER
I really like how both danielā€™s had similar voices, specifically the gravely (i think that's the right word) parts
Conclusion of this episode: maybe all four of them could use some therapy or atleast to talk to each other and work out their problems (the last part doesn't really apply to lestat, he was not part of the sort of ok guys, not good guys, i don't think any of them really qualify as good guys except daniel, he was just caught up in everything)
This episode really put their relationship through it but i think it may have helped parts of it as well, maybe if armand and louis could actually talk they could have a better relationship that isn't just hanging off a cliff
@certainunkownlove2 was telling me about this post and i think all of you need to read it, he is so wonderful for this
Thank you for reading, now it is time for me to rest (literally speaking, it's late and i'm tired)

Writing Interview Tag!
Big thanks to @moltenwrites for the tag! I've seen this going around and was hoping to be tagged at some point. *rubs hands together* There'll be a readmore at the bottom with the templates for both desktop and mobile.
About me
When did you start writing?
Very young, around 5-6. I remember there was homework where the teacher gave everyone a list of words and asked us to write a sentence with each word. I would turn in a paragraph for each instead šŸ˜‚ When I was 14 I was writing a lot of Doctor Who fic on FFnet (I can't believe that was 16 years ago šŸ’€) and during the lockdown I started writing again for something to do.
Are there different genres or themes you enjoy reading other than the ones you write?
I don't think so? Sorry, that's a really unsatisfying answer, I know. It's like when you're asked what your favourite book is and you instantly forget every book you've ever read šŸ˜‚
Is there an author you want to emulate, or are compared to often?
Is this gonna be weird? Probably. Am I gonna fight through the anxiety anyway? Sure, you betcha! @septembriseur is one of the best writers I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Your Telford is second to none. Thank you.
Can you tell me a bit about your writing space?
Just sitting in my bed cradling my laptop. Despite only being 3 and a half years old it's got a whole host of things wrong with it, the most problematic being a loose connection somewhere inside the charging port. To be able to charge I have to sit in a very specific position and stay still, with a metal water bottle braced against the charging cable to keep it pushed in, another cable tied around it with an elastic band and hooked over the opposite side of the laptop. It's... honestly not the best lol. But it's a gaming laptop so getting it fixed would probably be expensive and I just don't have the money.
Whatā€™s your most effective way to muster up a muse?
Am I allowed to say drugs? šŸ˜‚ I'm prescribed ADHD meds and Pregabalin for anxiety, and they both help me focus enough to get words down on the page. I'd be pretty screwed without them tbh. I had an appointment with a doctor today and am getting an instant release ADHD medication added to my prescription as the extended release wears off by mid-to-late afternoon, so maybe I'll be able to get another daily writing session in when I take that!
Did the place(s) you grew up in influence the people and/or places you write about?
Hn. I want to say not really, but it must have influenced me in some way, right? Kids are sponges and will soak up and mimic the behaviours of the adults around them, and often people will reach adulthood with opinions and ideas that they don't even realise were created by an outside influence.
Are there any reoccurring themes in your writing? If so, do they surprise you?
QUEER! And no, it doesn't surprise me at all. šŸ˜‚ I love writing about self-discovery, characters figuring out they can grow outside of the box society has built for them.
Characters
Would you please tell me about your current favorite character?
So, uh, I'm just gonna link y'all here, where I ramble on about David Telford from Stargate Universe for fucking ages. He's in my brain spinning plates as we speak. (He never stops.)
Which of your characters would you be friends with in real life?
Well, in real life I wouldn't want to be friends with anyone in the military. While the US military is a special interest of mine because of Stargate, I am very aware that these characters are not realistic when compared to their real life counterparts. Realism in this area is one reason my favourite of the series is Universe, but even then these men aren't... Well, let's just say that - just like in politics - you don't get far in the military if you're a good person.
Which characters would you dislike the most of you met them?
šŸ˜¬šŸ˜¬šŸ˜¬ I mean, the fact they're dislikeable is part of the draw, ya know? I think irl-Young would suck absolute balls. šŸ˜‚
Tell me about the process of coming up with your characters?
Not super applicable as I'm a solely fandom writer, but the parts of the characters we're not given by the show come to me as I write, like puzzle pieces slotting into place. A good back-and-forth conversation is another excellent way to dig deep into them.
Do you notice any reoccurring themes/traits in your characters?
QUEER! But being serious, I've given both Everett Young (SGU) and John Sheppard (SGA) intrusive thoughts...
My writing
Whatā€™s your reason for writing?
Escapism. Creativity. The characters are in my head screaming at me.
Is there any specific comment or type of comment from readers that you find particularly motivating?
Ooh, the long back-and-forth conversations! I'm here to talk endlessly about these little fucking blorbos and I will ramble about them to anyone!
How do you want to be thought about by your readers?
Taking this very seriously: a man. I know that fandom is typically a woman-dominated area and I've met quite a few other trans people through Stargate, but yeah. I know there are cultural differences with what are generally considered gender neutral terms around the world, but I do not want to ever be referred to as a girl or with woman-coded terms. I've had to fight hard to be able to be myself: man, dude, bro, there are a lot of choices.
What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer?
Hmm... consistency? I set the New Year's resolution to write something every day in 2022. That year I missed 2 and half weeks because I had top surgery and while beforehand I thought 'awesome, I'll have plenty of time to write!' it turned out that recent wounds almost in my armpits makes it quite painful to move my arms... šŸ¤” In 2023 I wrote every day and so far I've kept that up in 2024. It's not always a lot of words, but it's always something.
What have you been told is your greatest strength as a writer is by others?
Characterisation. I've been told I've got my SGU boys (Telford, Young, and Rush) down to a tee.
How do you feel about your own writing?
There's a cycle where I look back at stuff I've written and compare it to what I'm currently writing and think 'this new stuff isn't as good', but in 3 months the stuff I'm currently writing will be what I think is good so... There are pieces I'm especially proud of, of course. If you'd allow me to plug for a moment, I think a memory, a distant echo is one of the best things I've ever written. Mind the tags though.
If you were the last person on earth, would you still write?
Yeah sure. I write primarily for myself so I don't see any reason why I'd stop. I wouldn't live long though lmao
When you write, are you influenced by what others might enjoy reading, do you write purely for yourself, or is it a mix of both?
First point of contact has to be with me, always. If something doesn't resonate with me, I can't write it. Forcing things is going to make writing unenjoyable and for me it's one of the most joyous things I do and I want to keep it that way. That said, if there's specific interest in a certain idea I have, that of course does motivate me. Feedback is the nectar of writers!

Decidedly started wayward son now (finally). Now that I've finished both the AOUV books (that brain rot is gonna be there a WHILE though ngl. I'm gonna be thinking about those books forever too.) But I also (finally) have a physical copy of Wayward Son. And the third book, so I don't have to stop.
anyways. contemplating just putting my thoughts live-streamed once more, but I might have already read 20 chapters (RR why. why are there so many chapters in these books. it's too many.) (I live-streamed the first 20 chapters to a friend on discord lmao.
Spoilers under the cut I guess?
It's good to see that Agatha is one step away from trading one magickal cult for another less magickal one lmao poor girl šŸ¤£
Me three pages later: well at least she knows šŸ¤£ God, I love her.
fun fact! everyone on goodreads hates Agatha. I think they're wrong and am even more convinced that a bunch of people who like to review things on goodreads, cannot, in fact, read.
Oh boy Penny. Well that is certainly a decision. BF hangs up on you, show up in America to surprise him. what could go wrong.
oof. yeah that. that could go wrong.
No no, Baz is right I'd also be mad if I had to spend an entire day driving through Nebraska. Road trips suck. šŸ˜Œ
I agree with his entire fucking list. Illinois also sucks. And Kansas.
Poor man. At least he got cheese cake factory out of it I suppose. Does cheesecake factory really not exist in Europe?
Simon having all this idealistic wonder about fucking Iowa is hilarious šŸ˜‚ man Baz is so real. the last road trip I went on was 16 hours to the coast of Texas. you know what's even better than Iowa being so similar to Illinois that they may as well not have separated them? driving ten hours in one day and still being in fucking Texas.
Glshdvdisbksa reading a British perspective of a Renn Faire is absolutely fucking thrilling. I love this book.
lmaooooo fighting vampires at the renn faire 10/10. as an American, who has in fact been to multiple Renaissance Faires I love this book.
dfghdjkfsgh man this poor kid is not dealing with being in a civilian after war very well at all, but man the moment something interesting happens he's like āœØšŸ˜Š meanwhile I AM CRYING ABOUT IT. how is the trauma going there Simon?
"I was being poetic before, about America being endless. But Nebraska really is endless." my lord this man really just sums up road-trips.

How I bound my fic
Disclaimer. I watched like three you tube videos (one of which is here) and this is like my fourth or fifth time that I've bound anything. I don't think I'm doing things correctly and in those steps I will be pointing that out.
This is going to be long so I'm going to tuck the rest under the cut.
Formatting your text block.
I spent so long working on my text block(s). It got easier with each one I did. I work in MS office.
My page size is set to 8.5" by 5.5" because that is half the size of a standard piece of printer paper. I put the margins on the smallest possible because the site I use to organize the pages into signatures tends to add a bit of a margin.
I use this to make my signatures. I got this original link from a reddit post about book binding. (I thought I had a link to it but I can't seem to find it.) I tend to have my signatures made with 16 pages, which is 4 sheets of paper. You'll need to make an account (it's free) and make a copy of this project to add your own pdfs to. It automatically puts them in order and the pages on the same sheet of paper.
You'll want to print your pages double sided. I use the base setting for my printer (because when I fucked with it they came out wrong) so you might want to test print a signature before making your printer run a full copy.
"I have all my pages printed. Now what?"
Folding, punching, and sewing your text block.
It's exactly what it sounds like. Fold all of your signatures. I like to use the back of a sharpie to get a nice crease on the spine edge (and to save my fingers the pain).
I use this handy guide and the awl that came with it now, but the process can be completed by making a guide on a piece of paper and punching holes with a thumbtack or straight pin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once that's done it's time to sew. I have no clue what the stitch I use is called. I just made it up as I went along and it turned out pretty.
the edge stitches (after coming back to the edge of the spine) get slipped between the last two signatures. I think this is a French stitch? no clue. Then the short ones loop back through the last stitch once while the long ones go through the last twice. makes a pretty ladder. (did I mention I know basically nothing about binding or how to make text instructions?)
Tumblr media
Glue is your friend. Not your enemy.
SO this first picture is everything I use to case in my text block.
Use a thin line of glue to attach your end pages. I have to cut mine down to the correct size and I use a small paper cutter because I can't cut a straight line to save my life.
Then basically smoosh your text block under some heavy books or put it a book press. Paint the spine with a lot of glue. like multiple coats.
Go ahead and add your headband and a ribbon if you want a bookmark built in.
(also most people use a cloth on the spine but I keep forgetting to buy that so I use scraps from my end papers to cover the spine. I know this isn't the correct way but it's worked out somewhat okay for me.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm glad I didn't fuck up with a box cutter.
So I've got some shitty math scribbled on a piece of paper for you guys.
you want to add 1/4 of an inch (or 6mm) to the length of your cover board. (5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches becomes 5 1/2 x 8 3/4 inches).
The spine is the width of spine + 1 board. I use a chip board that was sold near the cricuts in Michael's currently but I have used card board in the past.
Trace measurements, cut. I precut with my paper cutter then go the rest of the way with my box cutter.
Tumblr media
Space hinges.
I use a little hinge spacer I found on amazon. People 3d print them too and sell them on etsy or you can cut another piece of chipboard for this.
my hinges are 5mm and honestly... I'd probably go bigger if I could. I'm just too lazy and want to work with what I've got.
Biggest tip. Use painter's tape to test fit your hinges. I fucked up tho and used an automotive painters tape and it wouldn't come off.
Tumblr media
Gluing everything together.
I wrap my cover boards in a card stock and use book cloth on the spine. I prefer this look and it comes out pretty good all things considered.
Highly recommend watching a professional doing this on you tube rather than me trying to type instructions.

Glue it together and let it sit under all of your books/in your press for a while.
If you want to see how the hellmark book turned out check out my other post here. This is it with the dust jacket I made (with my lovely friend Lily) for it.
If anyone has any questions feel free to hit me up. I might not have the best answers but I will try my hardest to point you in the right direction.

what i want to play in Solo But Not Alone 4
So, there's a charity bundle on itch.io right now, Solo But Not Alone 4 is a bundle of 125 solo ttrpg-type games.
By ttrpg-type I mean that they aren't played on the computer, they usually have pdfs to download and then you need to bring the things like playing cards, tarot cards, dice and something to write with yourself (and very occasionally a jenga tower). They're usually rather focused on journaling.
If you want to know which games need which supplies, or what genres the games are, there's a handy dandy spreadsheet you can get here.
now, I've not really played any of the games yet, but there's ones I really want to play, and maybe I can make some of you excited enough to buy the bundle and support the charity Take This too. Take This is a non-profit to benefit mental health in the gaming community, but a little look on their website gives me the idea that their resources are useful broader as well, for example they have links to mental health resources for particular ethnic groups. It does seem pretty English-speaking country centric, but still a worthy charity to support I think.
without further ado! the games
Tumblr media
Project ECCO is a game you play in a PLANNER. I've scrounged up an old planner I barely used and I'll be using it to play this game. It's a time travel game and you write your answers to the prompts on the pages of the planner you've "travelled" to. There's different ways to "travel through time" in the game, so you use dice, playing cards, tarot cards and a coin to determine what day you're writing on and what prompt you're fulfilling. I like the variety in methods, and i like that i'll be having limited space to write (although it's VERY little on the weekends. we'll see what i can manage on 3 lines)
If you want to play just this game you should definitely buy the bundle, it's usually 15 USD, while the bundle is just 10.
Tumblr media
Corporate Onboarding is here mostly because of the formatting, I'll admit. But the formatting is so cool! It's AVAILABLE AS A POWERPOINT FILE. Also pdf, handy if you don't have the ms office suite. It fits on just 19 slides, but it claims that the average session is about an hour, which sounds about right. It doesn't have a lot of introspection far as I can tell, you need to find all your bosses to report to them without going over 5 warnings, and you have some stats for your character and all that.
Tumblr media
Fox Curio's Floating Bookshop is another game worth getting the whole bundle for, normally 16 USD and it does seem worth that.
The game has such cool worldbuilding, you've got different towns and seasons and events throughout the year. I can see myself dedicating a whole notebook to this. And it's got a beautiful pdf (that's kind of formatted for print, but the print book's sold out). Also a fishing mini game you play by dealing a deck of cards.
Tumblr media
5 act play is a game that gives you some guidance for the plotting of a play. It uses tarot, but also gives an alternative using dice and playing cards. It really USES tarot, you are expected to have a guidebook or look one up for the meanings of the cards and use them to inform characters and themes, but it does have tables for what you do with some of the cards. It's Shakespeare inspired, using examples from Much Ado and Romeo and Juliet to help you, and you're expected to write a tragedy or a comedy.
Tumblr media
The Peace Engine is a game you use a jenga tower to play, which I don't currently have access to, but it looks incredible and I'm considering asking around if I can borrow one. You have to pull bricks from the tower when your scientist gains "burnout" and if your tower falls you fail. It has a complex system and it seems very cool.
Again a game more expensive on its own, so get it in the bundle!
Tumblr media
Glyph is a sort of guide where you make sigils, it has a beautiful pdf as well. I like the method it provides. It recommends to be used for enrichment of other games, or just as a fun creative exercise
This bundle runs until the 9th of March 2024!

Let's Read Peanuts (Yup, still at it) ā€“ May 1954
There are lots of great strips I just don't have room to comment on. I strongly encourage everybody to read the full month at the official GoComics page. Today's month starts HERE.
May 3, 1954
Tumblr media
~tugs collar~
Yeah... About that.
May 9, 1954
Tumblr media
Aw yeah, here we go! I was wondering when this would pop up.
May 15, 1954
Tumblr media
1) That's not a joke
2) Yes, Violet. I got that from him kicking the radio.
Also I hope you enjoyed this strip because ā€œCharlie Brown doesn't like coconutā€ is now a running gag.
May 16, 1954
Tumblr media
This definitively proves that adults exist in the Peanuts Cinematic Universe, they just happen to be 20 feet tall for some reason. Or maybe the kids are like 2 feet tall? It depends on how you look at it I guess.
May 23, 1954
Tumblr media
Oh man! What's going to happen!? I'm freaking out!
May 24, 1954
Tumblr media
Lucy is so unbelievably awful to Linus in these early years. Granted, she's literally four(?) years old so I can cut her a bit of slack but god damn do these kind of interactions not endear you to her.
Weirdly enough though, I actually like that the strip doesn't punish her for doing stuff like this. Others have made this observation long before I came along but the fact that Schulz is willing to just sort of... let bad things happen without immediately having the universe make an example of the perpetrator or teach them a lesson is one of the things that sets Peanuts apart from the competition. Life just kind of be like that sometimes and it's OK to show it.

Tumblr media
(No, really. That's the last one)
Thoughts:
The golf tournament arc is kind of notorious and nobody really knows what the hell is up with it. You have continuity in the Sunday strips (very unusual due to how they are made), weird off-model art, the cast acting out of character, and of course, on-screen adults. Then it all just kind of... stops. It's very odd.
I've heard people speculate that this might actually have been ghost drawn (is that a term?) by another artist but I'm not sure if I buy that. The art is a bit different but it still very much feels like Schulz to me, particularly in how he draws his backgrounds. I ~do~ think there might be something to the idea that this is a repurposed experiment from another project though.
What this feels like to me is Schulz experimenting with ā€œbiggerā€ stories, perhaps something intended to be sold as a proper comic book rather than just a collection of strips. The art looks different because he's trying to set it apart from the strips by adding more detail and action (kind of like when an animated TV sitcom gets a theatrical movie).
As for why it just ends like that? Well that's a sort of punchline Schulz does in a lot in his daily strips so it's not actually that weird if you think about it. I think he just didn't realize that this kind of anticlimax punchline works with a 4-panel strip but not a 4-page event comic.
There's no official word on the matter though so your guess is as good as mine.

Disabilities and Disclosure
@lollytea made a post about this idea and I went with it.
I don't have dyslexia. If you or someone you know has it, I'd appreciate your input!
@avatarmerida @fairytales-and-folklore
______________________________________________
"Disabilities and Disclosure"
"I'm gonna have to borrow that book when you're done with it!"
Willow wasn't really thinking when she made that promise. She'd been too caught up in Hunter's cool outfit and his sweet smile to realize what she was signing up for. She'd been so preoccupied with flirting with the cute boy she didn't bother to think she was actually going to have to read that book later.
At first, she put it off. They were busy fighting villains, rebuilding society, rebuilding their homes, starting a new semester at Hexside. Then, a few months after she and Hunter started dating, he remembered she had expressed interest in reading Cosmic Frontier.
Oh no.
"Here you go! you can keep it, I have another copy at home."
"Aww, Sunflower, this is so nice of you."
Hunter blushed, he always blushed when she called him that.
Aw fuck. The book was even bigger than she remembered.
"A little fat, ain't it?" She chuckled nervously "how did you read it all in 2 days?"
"Haha well, yeah. I don't wanna brag but you do remember I've been called a 'genius teen prodigy'," He said this in a tone that sounded like he did want to brag. "it's not that fat, tho. A regular reader like you can probably kill it in a week or two. And then you can share your thoughts with me, Gus and Camila!"
Yeah. Sure. A regular reader like her.
A week or two. Sure.
Hunter must've sensed her uncertainty because his voice immediately dropped from excitement to comfort.
"Hey, I won't get upset if you don't like it. Just so you know."
"Aw, yeah, I wasn't worried about that. But thanks."
She tried looking at the summary on the back and almost got a headache. She knew he wouldn't mind if she didn't like it... But would he be disappointed if she couldn't even finish it?
"Oh, and I hope you're cool with this... I kinda wrote stuff on the margins," he said this bashfully.
Willow opened the book on the first page. The first two pages of every book are always blank before the actual story gets started. She'd always considered that a waste of paper.
This time, however, she saw on the first blank page something written in Hunter's perfect calligraphy. He had such nice handwriting. Her writing was so messy in comparison.
Even she was able to read the three simple words written there with love and care.
'To my Captain šŸ’›'
What had she done?
______________________________________________
The days passed by and no matter how hard she tried, the damn book was impossible to finish.
It's not that she couldn't read at all! She could read! She was 16, not 5!
But some words were harder to understand than others. Words that were really long and complicated gave her the hardest time. It didn't help that all these characters had odd names that looked impossible to pronounce and even harder to spell. She kept getting headaches whenever she stared at a page for too long.
She had always been like this, since she started school. It was one of the reasons abominations were so much harder for her than plants, abominations required a lot of reading and theory, plants were direct hands-on action. She had so many memories of staying up late with her parents trying to help her as she agonized over the homework.
And, as the days passed, she kept avoiding having to talk to Hunter. He always asked her how far into the book she was, which scene had she gotten to, who was her favorite character so far. And Gus was no better. Gus knew of Willow's reading issue but it seemed like the young boy had forgotten about it as he got caught up in the excitement as well.
One day, Willow was alone, sitting on the school steps when she suddenly couldn't take it anymore and screamed in frustration, throwing the book away from her.
Luckily, someone caught it.
"Wow! You must be really angry at this thing," Luz said, in between scared and impressed. "did your favorite character die or something? I hate it when that happens."
Willow sighed.
"No, it's just... it's so hard to read."
"Really? It says here the age rating is 13 and up," Luz pointed at the back of the book.
Willow groaned.
"Is it because you don't understand all the weird sci-fi things? I know you guys still don't know a lot about the human world. It makes sense you don't get all the space and science-y thingies," she laughed. "heck, I'm a human and even I don't get it half the time! It's super confusing, you don't have to feel bad for -"
"That's not it either, Luz."
There was a silence between the two of them. Luz felt the weight of that silence and sat down next to her. The human carefully laid a hand on her best friend's shoulder.
"Hey. You don't have to tell me but it looks like it'll make you feel better to tell someone."
"It's... I don't... it's not that I can't read or write! You've seen me do it! I know how to read and write! I'm not a baby!"
Luz simply stared at her, waiting for her to continue.
"But, even though I can do it, I find it very... difficult. There's lots of words that I can't spell because they're too long, the letters sometimes like... move around and blurr together even when I'm wearing my glasses!" She took off the golden frames as if to clarify. "and I keep getting headaches and I hate it when a sentence has too many comas and -"
"Oh, you have dyslexia!"
Willow stopped her rant to look at her friend. She put her glasses back on, confused.
"What?"
"Oh, that's what humans call it! I don't know how witches call it or if it even has a name here. I didn't know witches could have dyslexia... but I guess it makes sense cause human brains are very similar to witch brains. I wonder if-"
"Luz, what's dyslexia?"
"Oh, right, sorry," she smiled apologetically. "it's a learning disability. It's what you just described. Someone who has a hard time reading, who can't spell long words, who struggles with big books... etcetera."
Willow looked shocked, her mouth slightly opened. It has a name? Other people have it?
"I'm not a doctor so I can't really diagnose you. But, if you want, we can do some research! There's lots of info on the human realm! It's actually a really common thing so we have lots of methods to help make it easier. We can look up Cosmic Frontier audiobooks! You can just listen to it, no reading required."
Despite of herself, Willow smiled. Luz was a really good friend.
"Thank you, Luz. That sounds nice."
"And I bet Hunter will love to help! You know how he loves research!"
The smile dropped as quickly as it had come, replaced by panic.
"NO! DON'T TELL HUNTER!"
"Okay, why?"
"He just... Hunter's so smart and I'm..."
"You're smart! Just because you have a learning disability doesn't make you not smart! Mom has ADHD and she's super smart!"
"What's ADHD?"
"Oh, it's another learning disability. I think I have it too but that's a conversation for another day."
"Mmmkay," Willow shrugged and went back to the matter at hand. "Hunter's so smart and he's such a good reader and... and he's always going on and on about how talented and clever I am and he admires me so much and... I don't want him to be disappointed or to see me different."
Luz stayed silent for a moment while she contemplated what to say. She finally settled on:
"I'm not gonna tell him because I respect your privacy but I think you should tell him. Hunter loves you but he doesn't have you on a pedestal, he knows you're a person with limits and weaknesses. He's not going to be disappointed if you tell him this."
Willow didn't respond but she knew her friend was right. Oh, where would she be without Luz the human?
______________________________________________
A few days of research and information gathering with the assistance of Luz and Camila, and Willow was now ready to come clean to her boyfriend.
She sat with him on a picnic they'd set up in the forest as she laid out all the information. Hunter would occasionally ask a question but, for the most part, he just let her speak. In the end, Willow stared at him in deep dread.
"Wow, ok. Thanks for telling me this," he stopped to take a sip of apple blood before continuing. "how can I help?"
Willow stared at him, processing the words.
"You want to help?" She asked incredulously.
"You're my girlfriend and you need help, therefore, I'm willing to do what I can. Is that not how it works?"
Willow couldn't help but smile. Hunter was getting better at this relationship thing.
"Yeah, thank you. I was just... I was being paranoid."
Hunter tilted his head, offering her to go on.
"You're always... you're so smart and well-read and... you always tell me how talented and clever you think I am and you compliment me for knowing so much about flyer derby and plants and insects... I feel like I'll disappoint you if I'm actually not as smart as you think I am."
Hunter frowned. He did tend to go on about how amazing his girlfriend was, he couldn't help it! He loved her! And she had always looked so happy when he said those things, responding with a smile or a blush or a thank you or paying him a compliment in return.
He didn't realize that maybe there was a bit of a negative side to it.
"Willow, I'm not gonna be disappointed in you for having limits and weaknesses. Nobody's perfect! And that's fine! You're the one who taught me that!
The plant witch snorted. It was true, she had been the one to teach Hunter that. Why couldn't she remember her own advice?
"There it is," Hunter said, fondly.
"There what is?"
"You snort like a pig when you laugh, you kick people in your sleep, you take pictures of strangers on the street like a creeper..." He counted on his fingers. "I could keep going but the point is, I know you're not perfect. It's okay to not be perfect. I don't love you because you're flawless! I love you because you're Willow and you're impossible not to love."
He said that last part so sincerely, she had to believe him. The plant witch grabbed her boyfriend in a tight hug. He hugged her back and she felt the warmth fill her with comfort.
"I love you too, Sunflower."
They kissed. They'd already kissed so many times, it came naturally to them by now. Willow was long familiar with the taste of his lips but it still somehow brought firebees to her stomach no matter how many times she did it. It never got old, she would never get tired of it.
Every time they kissed, like clockwork, flowers came out of Willow's head. It was like her heart and her magic couldn't control themselves when she felt his kisses. This time, the flowers on her hair were white bellflowers.
"Now, back to the 'how can I help?' thing," Hunter said, after they had broken apart. "I think I have an idea you might like."
______________________________________________
Normal people would simply find a Cosmic Frontier audiobook for Willow to listen to. Or maybe they would read to her out loud. Or maybe they'd show her the movie adaptation (tho, she'd been told by Hunter, Gus and Camila that the movie was awful and did a terrible job at adapting the original source material).
Hunter wasn't a normal person, not by a long shot.
He'd decided to act out all of the memorable scenes from the book like it was a play. After telling the others, they had also been incredibly excited to help.
Everyone did something. Willow built the stage and props, Hunter made the costumes and wrote the scripts, Vee and Gus were on special effects with their shapeshifting and illusions respectively, Amity brought some abominations for extra manpower and Luz and Camila put together a playlist of songs that went perfect with every scene. Eda and King brought snacks.
When the night of the premiere finally came, Willow sat down at the Owl House's backyard with Luz, Amity, King, Eda and Raine as they watched it all unfold. Luz took out her phone and started recording because she wanted to put it on Mewtube, Amity didn't understand anything that was going on, Eda ate all the snacks and King fell asleep on Raine's lap halfway through. Perfection.
It wasn't a quality production, it was very low budget and DIY. It reminded Willow of those plays the bard witches from the drama club at Hexside often did. It was silly and weird but it was wonderful.
At the heart of it all were the actors. Vee obviously knew how to play a convincing alien monster, Gus and Camila were not professionals but they felt such passion and appreciation for their character's plight that they could bring themselves to do a pretty good performance. And Hunter was just IN IT! He was an artist lost in his art and Willow never wanted him to stop ever.
His voice cracked with emotion on the dramatic scenes, he stricked poses and smiled at the audience, he recited every line from memory, he even cried on the sad parts. It was hard not to love the book when it inspired something so incredible on all these people she loved.
When the play ended, the actors took a bow and everyone clapped. Luz was the loudest, woohoo-ing and wolf whistling. She cheered so loud, King woke up with a yelp.
Willow made flowers with her magic, throwing them at the stage enthusiastic. Gus caught one and pointed a finger gun, winking at her. Vee caught one and giggled. Camila caught one and her smile got even bigger.
She threw a whole bouquet of roses. Hunter caught it and blew her a kiss.
Yup, this was her new favorite book.

20 questions for fic writers
tagged by @ofherlionheart, thank you!!
1. how many works do you have on Ao3? 36?! When did that happen...
2. what's your total Ao3 word count? 1,612,719, and now I'm eyeing the shibari fic and my written WIP where chapter 4 of 6 is going to be 60+ word document pages all on its own...
3. what fandoms do you write for? ATLA! Though I'm starting to eye The Radian Emperor too, if I can figure out the writing style
4. what are your top five fics by kudos?
1. Love is in the Hair 2. These Things Written 3. These Things Known 4. These Things Unsaid (lol the middle of the series having the least kudos of the three, middle book syndrome strikes) 5. Lessons in Proper Asset Management
5. do you respond to comments? I do! I do my best to reply to all of them, I love hearing people's thoughts and chatting about the fic or the characters or canon. Though I am currently egregious behind after the holidays, doing my best to catch up...
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I don't know that I do angsty *endings* versus just highly emotional situations that end in (hopefully) satisfying ways? To Cleave These Roots We've Made is probably my angstiest run into an ending, and Of Tea and Turtle Ducks (and the Turtle Duck Guy) just had a very high-emotion end. I don't know, what do you guys think? I don't always have a good read on the tone of my own fics lol
7. Whatā€™s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Ohhh this is tough, maybe To Be Named, To Be Known (To Be Loved) or (With Wonder and Care) Reach for Far-flung Dreams, in part because the endings are just a culmination of a lot of like warm feelings? Or Didn't Know What I Was Missing (But I Guess I Found It) because we were all so happy the three of them finally talked lol?
8. Do you get hate on fics? Not really, though Katara in Burning Bright has been fairly polarizing. It's not hate but it's also like...not happy haha
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Oh, do I ever! And...all the kinds (m/m, f/m/ poly, f/f incoming)? Full on, graphic, self-recognition-through-the-boner character-developing smut.
10. Do you write crossovers? Whatā€™s the craziest one youā€™ve written? I don't!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? oh man I hope not. I don't even know how I'd find out, unless someone told me
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes! Into Russian!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? No, though I got close with certain installments in the Zukki series with the way Ash helped me outline haha. I wouldn't be opposed to it, but it feels more like long-form roleplay when I imagine it.
14. Whatā€™s your all-time favorite ship? This is a hard question! Because there's stuff I read fic for and stuff I write and then stuff I've like, read and gently rotated in my head for the rest of my life. But to make it easy--Zukka haha
15. Whatā€™s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I tend not to let myself have too many simultaneous WIPs, and I don't really break my rule about finishing a work before starting to post, so no, looking at the current set. There's ideas I'd like to write that I'm not sure I will, but nothing started.
16. What are your writing strengths? I'd say dialogue, characterization, and building narrative tension and momentum
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Fight scenes lol. I don't know why they're so much harder than smut scenes, they should be the same, except smut is like intensely close and intimate and full of sensation and emotions and fight scenes have to be go-go-go but still full of sensation and emotions just different ones haha
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I've never tried! It seems like it would be difficult, me knowing only the one (and Latin, that doesn't count haha) and so much of the fun of language being in the wordplay and clever turns of phrase and the world of difference between someone saying "father" or "dad"
19. First fandom you wrote for? ATLA! I wrote some original fiction back in the day, but fandom-wise ATLA is my first go
20. Favorite fic youā€™ve written? So cruel to make me choose! I am a little bit in love with everything I post. And I will cheat by saying either To Open Every Door to Night, To Meet Each Rising Sun or Just Let My Love Adorn You (You Gotta Know that I Adore You) right now, I'm so pleased with how they both came out, and they were so much fun to write. Both really came together so well from what I initially imagined.
tagging @queendollophead-ao3 @lizardlicks @ranilla-bean and anyone else who wants to play! I'd love to see your answers

april '24 writing progress
words written: 11.1k
most words written in a day: 1,123
least words written in a day: 0
yearly total: 46k
projects worked on:
ya sci-fi book rewrites
adult fantasy book edits
finished editing ch 10 of sylvix dreamscape fic and sent to betas!
planning bsd regency au
started soukoku oneshot
works published in april:
none
april goals:
sigh wellā€¦.you knowā€¦.finish my ya sci-fi book rewrites MAYBE.
finish sylvix dreamscape ch 10 edits
start soukoku oneshotā€¦ maybe try to finish a first draft
make some progress on some other fics???
may goals:
sigh i don't know, maybe just rewrite ONE CHAPTER of ya sci-fi book? šŸ„² hopefully a bit more than that but idk we'll see lmao
implement beta feedback + post ch 10 of sylvix dreamscape fic??
edit & post chapter 16 of altea rising maybe?
continue working on soukoku oneshot
finish an outline of bsd regency au
mayyybeee work on other fics? specifically maybe sylvix pacrim au...i miss it...
notes:
well i'm still feeling a little discouraged about my progress but WHATEVER WE PERSEVERE... as usual i still have not finished rewriting my ya sci-fi book, but i did finish chapter 32 rewrites, which means i'm now on chapter 33/36 AND I REACHED THE CLIMAX so we are getting there. i think ch 33 is really going to kick my ass, so that might take me the whole month. but optimistically, maybe i will finish that and at least start ch 34??
i also started my soukoku oneshot, but by "started" i mean... literally just that lol, like i have less than a page so far. šŸ˜‚ i got kinda stuck right away because i was struggling with designing an original villain character BUT i'm excited with what i came up with and feel more prepared to delve in now. so, hoping i can at least continue drafting that this month!
i've also been planning another long bsd fic (i think i mentioned this previously?) - it originated as a shin soukoku pride & prejudice au but has since morphed into a super long joint skk & sskk regency au (still very p&p inspired but...not as closely based on it lol). i have pretty much all the major beats planned out but still have a few gaps in it i want to flesh out before i start writing. so i'm hoping to finally finish my (terrifyingly long) outline for it, so i can maybe start writing it soon???
as usual... i would love to make some progress on some of my other sadly neglected fics. in particular i've been thinking a lot about sylvix pacific rim au again so i may return to that if i have the time/energy.
i also would love to update at least one fic this month. I FINALLY FINISHED EDITING CH 10 OF SYLVIX DREAMSCAPE FIC and sent that to betas, soooo might be able to finally finish posting that by end of this month!! while i'm waiting on beta notes on that i was considering doing edits of ch 16 of altea rising and maybe posting that too. :)
so yeah, much to do this month but a lot of exciting stuff!! šŸ‘

I've been reading FullMetal Alchemist during my off time, so I'm going to just make an archive of moments that stood out to me that I want to share.
Also, a side note I'm going to mention before anything, I'll already seen both brotherhood and the original. So I know the story already, but the original I watched last year and brotherhood around 6 years ago, so my memory on brotherhood might not be as good in some areas.
Also, side side note, spoilers ahead for anything fullmetal alchemist related.
Book 1:
And the journey begins!
Tumblr media
Ah, what a great first introduction to get Alphones. Just a amazing moment.
Tumblr media
Then it's followed up for an even better introduction of his brother! Edward has always been my favorite of the brothers. He's just such an amazing character
Tumblr media
We just got banger after Banger after Banger! An amazing intro to Lust. Now, I will admit that I feel she was a better character in the original anime, but that still doesn't mean she's not a great character in this one
Tumblr media
Ah, good old Roy Mustang, now he's a character I'm going to want to pay close attention to during this read through. During my watch though of the original fullmetal alchemist, I noticed something interesting. He actually is very much ashamed of the actions he took during the ishval Civil War, even killing both of winrys parents. I don't remember that happening in Brotherhood, so I'm going to pay close attention to him.
Tumblr media
Ah, what a friendly old man and his child. I bet nothing wrong is going to happen here!
Tumblr media
Oh... now I think there is a big thing I must mention about Nina and tucker. There arc happens way too fast during the manga. Tucker is introduced on page 188. He turns her into the chimra on page 204. That's 16 pages to get to know her, their back story, the struggle they are going thought and everything. In the original anime, they had a really good set up, this arc took place while Edward and Alphonse were first starting out and took place over the course of 3 episodes.
Tumblr media
Now, it feels like a really good time to mention another big change between this and the original anime. We don't get a big flashback to fully explain what happened to their mother or their past. In the original anime, it starts with them dealing with the fake priest, and then after we get a multiple episode long flashback that goes over there, Edward becoming a state alchemist and them staying with tucker during that time. So when they learn that Nina dies, it takes them like 3 years to learn that scar was the person responsible for it. But in manga, it's almost an instant thing that they learn the same week.
Tumblr media
Ah, the intro to scar. It has always been one of my favorite character introductions in the series. Scar is just an amazing antagonist to Edward, and the ways that they both affect the other during the series are great.
Tumblr media
Just such amazing art, honestly, gives me tons of tri-gun vibes that I just love.

Fic Tag Game!
I was tagged by @veloursdor, @mischievouschan4, and @lilredghost. Y'all probably forgot but I DID NOT. I've just been sad and mopey because I'm working when it's dark out with the time change and it's pitch black by the time I'm home, so I haven't gotten anything done!
How many works do you have on a03?
Ten
2. Whatā€™s your ao3 word count?
118,260!!
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Currently just Star Wars! And I donā€™t foresee that changing. When I first got into fanfic I wrote for Bleach, Final Fantasy VII (oh my god there were song fics, what the fuck), Harry Potter, Marvel Cinematic Universe (I had forgotten about that completely. Hopefully I forget again), and The Hobbit.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Hey this feels like a war crime, actually. Theyā€™re all obikin except the first.
Lady of the Rocks, with 1,125 kudosā€¦ my Hobbit fic that hasnā€™t been touched in like 6 years.
Bitter Honey (BEE FIC, BEE FIC, BEE FIC!! Sits at 447 right now)
Anakin Skywalker, Witch (420, nice)
Living with the Present (402)
Tapio (128)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes! Although frequently very late. I got bad about it this summer because this summer sucked, emotionally. But I love it when authors respond to my comments so, as hard as it is for me to believe, I imagine that people enjoy when I respond to their comments and try my best to do it.
6. Whatā€™s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I donā€™t think any of them have an angsty ending. One of the Harry Potter fics was going to though. LOL.
7. Whatā€™s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Anakin Skywalker, Witch.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Nope!
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Yesā€¦ mostly pretty vanilla right now I think. I need to expand my writing comfort bubble.
10. Do you write crossovers? Whatā€™s the craziest one youā€™ve written?
I havenā€™t written any. Used to read a ton though.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that Iā€™m aware of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Again, not to my knowledge.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No. Itā€™s stressful enough trying to match my own writing voice haha.
14. Whatā€™s your all time favorite ship?
Obikin, definitely!
15. Whatā€™s a WIP youā€™d like to finish, but doubt you ever will?
My hobbit fic. I still get comment occasionally asking if Iā€™ll finish it. My big thing with that fic was world-building and Iā€™ve lost a lot of what I had. I WANT to work on it for the people that still enjoy it though.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Iā€™d say probably dialogue, because I feel like I edit that the least, and world-building.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
ā€¦.actually writing the words down RIP. Also comma usage.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I avoid it, generally. I read too many fantasy books and fics back in the day where you had to flip to the glossary at the end of the book/bottom of the page for translations and it gets annoying, especially if thereā€™s a multiple characters speaking.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Omg I had to look up my old ff.net account to check this. It was Bleach.
20. Favorite fic youā€™ve ever written?
I want to immediately say Anakin Skywalker, Witch. Itā€™s my first obikin fic, my first fanfic after a long hiatus. Iā€™ve put so much work and research into it. But Tapio has a vibe that I really enjoy, and has managed to inspire that vibe in readers soā€¦ dark horse winner is Tapio.
Bonus: What fic would you want to rewrite one day?
Probably that damn Hobbit fic. I didnā€™t have an editor back then so I shudder to think about what the comma situation is there.
I feel like I've seen most people do this game already! So I'm not going to tag anyone, but if you see this and have not been tagged yet/want to do it... this is me, tagging you.

Sception Reads Cass Cain #19
Tumblr media
Batgirl (2000) Annual #1 Writer: Scott Peterson Pencils: Mike Deodato
The Main Batgirl solo is again left at a cliffhanger mid-arc while we look at a side issue. Maybe I should have done episodes 4-6 back to back, out of chronological order? But I've had a lot to say about issues 4 and 5, so the little breaks looking at side issues I don't have as much to say about has been a nice change of pace to buy breathing room. This time we're meeting a character named Aruna? I don't think I remember her at all. These sorts of annuals are sometimes used to have a popular established character help launch a new IP that will continue in another book. If that's what was happening here, then it's a nice show of confidence in Cass from editorial. And we've got Scott Peterson writing, so that's good, but we've seen Deodato draw Cass once before, and it, uh...
Tumblr media
Oh.
Tumblr media
Oh, no.
...
Honestly, it's not all that bad. Most of it's fine. Much better than the last time he was drawing Cass. There are even some panels of Cass that I really like, like this one:
Tumblr media
But man, those first couple pages are rough.
Anyway, yeah, while this is a 'Batgirl Annual', it exists to introduce Aruna Shende, as part of a 'DC World' thing going on at the time introducing some new international heroes and I guess seeing who sticks. Aruna is a shapeshifter with a stunt person/special effects artist alter-ego working in the Bollywood film industry while investigating the disappearance of her parents when she was a child. Bruce & Cass bump into Aruna while looking into the kidnapping of the lead actor in a film she was working on and they have a little adventure together. Aftter that there's an extended character backstory segment just for Aruna with no bats at all.
It's pretty solid. I like how Cass is able to identify Aruna when she's using her abilities to disguise herself. This is still silent Cass, but she's fairly active and expressive in the part of the issue where she's present.
As for Aruna, she's an interesting character, with a solid backstory, and its honestly a shame DC never really did anything with her after that.
There is one bit that stuck out to me though relating Aruna's story to Cass...
Tumblr media
After her parents were taken by mysterious suited agents, Aruna was left as an orphan, living on her own on the street, forced basically to grow up that way while also growing into her powers and using them to take care of herself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which is very similar to how Cass lived on her own after running away from David at age 8, basically until she met Barbara during No Mans Land when she was like 16 or 17. During that entire time Cass survived on the streets, on her own, without even the ability to speak, relying on her abilities to survive.
That's a part of her life that, as far as I can remember, the old continuity never really explored outside of this one flashback with Mr. Merc from issue 1. What was life like for her? Did she form connections with anyone? She's seen the world from this abject state of poverty, seen people around her desperate to survive, presumably saw people supporting each other and tearing each other down... she was living on the streets at least as long as she was living with David Cain, it should be a big part of her world view, so much formative stuff should have happened during that period. Really meeting and spending time with people other than her father for the first time. her first crush, probably. realizing how different she was, and what her father's training had really cost her in terms of the ability to communicate and connect with other people. How does growing up in abject poverty color what she thinks about her fabulously wealthy life when she is eventually invited into the Wayne household?
And not something modern writers can really go back and fill in, since, from my limited understanding, in the reboot continuity she goes pretty much straight from assassin life to bat life without this in between period.

12. Tell one book story or memory (what you were wearing when you were reading something, someone saw you cry in public, you threw a book across the room and broke a window, etc.)
Already answered, but here's another one. Well, I've been just thinking and I have lots of memories associated with particular books and moments but a lot feel poignant or sad in some way now, so for a simple but happy one - I remember reading Persuasion for the first time as a teenager in the back garden. I'd got my dad to leave a corner of the lawn unmown so I could live out my fantasies of lying in long grass reading books and I remember doing just that the first time I read Persuasion.
16. Rant about anything book related
I'm gonna weigh in on Ali Hazelwood. I'm not actually a big romance reader - I tend to get my fix from fanfic; I'm often disappointed by actual published romance novels. But I really like Hazelwood's books. She's totally derivative and has in many ways written the same book three times over which is starting to bother me but I like several things about her books: 1) the focus on academia and nerd loving characters - I'm not in STEM myself but I respect her commitment to some level of reality of what that world is like and that her characters (whatever else they may be) are academically intelligent and inhabit a world that feels quite familiar to me. 2) her heroines are often successful human beings (debatable) but with little romantic experience not because they're blushing virgins saving themselves for marriage but because they're just doing other things, Olive especially is pretty clearly demisexual- this is unusual rep and I love it and find it relatable. I find romance novel heroines really unrelatable because they are either pure and Christian (or Christian coded) or highly sexual. Yes, I know, I probably need to read different books but I do struggle to find ones where the subject matter and writing style both appeal. 3) They're easy to read - I don't mean that in a bad way - they're both easy page-turners AND I don't keep stopping because the writing irritates me and jarrs.
Why do I care enough to write about her specifically in this rant? Well, she's a published Reylo author and people who hate the fact that Reylo fanfic authors are currently doing very well in publishing and on booktok go out of the way to sneer and hate her specifically. I'm not trying to make out that her writing is greater or more profound than she is but I think it is so small-minded to resent someone's success because they have managed to capitalise on their writing talent and made the move from fanfic to traditional publishing, just because you don't like a ship. As people in fandom, we should be cheering her on and her fellow newly published and popular authors, no matter our feelings on Reylo.
(Not even going to weigh in on booktok. I have no idea; I don't have tiktok and I don't want to get it. If people are reading and sharing thoughts on books then that has to be good at least to some extent.)
38. What qualities do you find annoying in a character?
Prooooooobably similar to what I find annoying IRL: being completely self-obsessed and lacking self-awareness. At least IRL such people can't help it but I guess in fiction, it's particularly annoying if the author is also unaware of it. Obviously a self-obsessed character who lacks self-awareness can be a wonderful (comic?) character in the hands of a self-aware author, but I mean those protagonists that are meant to be relatable and sympathetic to the reader but the author doesn't realise they're actually a boring, narcissistic turd. So I guess ultimately what I find annoying is a character created by an author who doesn't fully interrogate the character and understand their flaws and then either have them work on those flaws or, in line with the tone of the novel, fail to work on the flaws.

OH MY GAWD THE QUESTIONS
Hi meelu!! Iā€™ve been alright, just very inactive because of busy busy life stuff- but I saw this pop up and I wanna answer dis cuz I luv u my moot!
Alrighty anyway OC QUESTIONS MY FAVORITE!!
1. Favorite oc: my favorite oc out of all of them? Uhhhh good god- Iā€™m gonna say my favorite is my very first oc, C.J., because she was a very big part of my early art journey. And also she was very cringy and I love her for it.
2. First oc: whoops I answered this- it was C.J.! She was a generic fox girl I made when I was a very itty bitty kid.
3. How many ocs: donā€™t judge me here- from what I counted just now itā€™s 56. There could be more that Iā€™m forgetting, so itā€™s pretty iffy. But I do remember that the number got up to 60 at some point.
4. Have you kept all your ocs since the beginning: Despite how many I have, itā€™ll be a surprise to hear that I have actually retired a bunch. And by a punch I mean probably over 15. This does include C.J. And her band but only because I felt like I wasnā€™t using her enough and she had done her part for me.
5. Are any of your ocs based on a show or book: HELL YEAH! God, dude thereā€™s a lot. Well- I say a lot but itā€™s not 56 a lot- anyway-
I made warrior cat ocs, like anyone, but those were retired. I based a series I have, Remnant, off of magic girl shows but itā€™s too far from any of them to be directly from those media. Thereā€™s The Owl House, which was several ocs I never continued using (and Iā€™m sad I never did), there was a Brand New Animal oc I scrapped, and of course there are more that didnā€™t leave the sketch phase.
I guess you could count fnaf, but thatā€™s a given.
I also had some Helluva Boss ocs that I have sketches for and even started a comic for- but when I say a comic I mean half a page was finished and I lost motivation.
Good lord I just remembered I had a whole mlp next gen. So I made a crap ton of mlp ocs- anyway-
But then you delve into two of my favorite shows and you go down a rabbit hole of history Iā€™m not going into- which is My Hero Academia and Tmnt. Iā€™m saying Tmnt in general because Iā€™ve put my ocs into several shows in the franchise. Tmnt has ocs Iā€™ve mentioned before on this blog and MHA has seven ocs of mine, thatā€™s Jejeru, Kami, Kai, Kianami, Marikaida, and Chinatsu. Iā€™ve fallen out of the fandom but I might use them in future, who knows!
6. What is the species of a majority of your ocs: Okay. So. This question is very hard to explain because I delve into some WACK species genetics with my ocs- Remnant is literally based on splicing genetics. But if we are being honest, most of them either started out or were, at the beginning of their story, human. So Iā€™m gonna go with human. The second place runner is definitely an animal crossed with a human though because those are just fun.
7. Are any of your ocs an original species: Yes, actually! Iā€™ve got several. Not that they have names or official species types or backstories or anything, but they sure are there. Iā€™m gonna describe random characters Iā€™ve put together with no specific species in mind.
Lufoa, an oc I did a ramble on a while ago, is not crossed with any known animal. Thatā€™s actually part of her story, but I havenā€™t worked it in yet. Another I could count is Artemis, but I donā€™t know exactly what she is- I havenā€™t explained it yet. Thereā€™s also my oc Alice, (NOT A SELF INSERT) whoā€™s some kind of demon. I dunno what kind but sheā€™s also there.
!INTERJECTION!
Iā€™m gonna be skipping 8 and 9 because Iā€™m running very low on the creative juice and havenā€™t drawn or written for fun in a WHILE and just donā€™t have any motivation for it- Iā€™m so sorry abt it but Iā€™ll answer the rest gladly!
10. Are any of your ocs part of a story: Quite a few of them are, actually! The oneā€™s based on tv shows and books are obviously apart of one, but Iā€™ve got a few Iā€™ve made up on my own. Thereā€™s Remnant, the big magical girl-ish show series about teens participating in a high grade school and also accepting genetics testing to be apart of the military (main character is not aware of this second part in the slightest, woOooOoo plot~). Iā€™ve got Midnight Misteps, which is a similar concept but itā€™s the apocalypse and new species and monsters and cryptdids roam around while our main cast tries to rebuild society again. I have Vivian and Fin, the two characters I donā€™t have a series name for yet where Viv meets a demon through accidental circumstances but turns out itā€™s not accidental and sheā€™s been kidnapped by literal Hell but she doesnā€™t know for a majority of her time down there. And then youā€™ve got Camila, the rich pink and proper girl who meets secret agent Thomas under the impression heā€™s just a grouchy guy and then gets roped into a big gang conspiracy in her town and has to avoid these dangers with her new cop buddy all while in heels.
So yeah Iā€™m doing great with work in progress projects
11. Do you have any twin ocs: yes! Iā€™ve got one set, and theyā€™re fnaf ocs, if you can imagine it. I reworked a sister location oc around a few months ago and doubled her into two people! Thatā€™s Frankie and Danny, the sweetheart engineers! One of them isnā€™t a sweetheart, but yadda yadda, plot and story stuff- Iā€™m movinā€™ on!
12. Are any of your ocs siblings: oh. My. God. Yes. It would be very hard for me to pick them all out and name them, but letā€™s just say yes. Yes, there are many. Iā€™ve got one set of sextuplets in there somewhere-
13. What is the gender of most of your ocs: Female. Itā€™s so female itā€™s unfair. Iā€™ve been getting better at this, but I still prefer drawing women over men and I have no idea why?? Itā€™s nothing negative or anything- I just think I started drawing girls and just kept drawing girls and completely missed the boat I had to jump onto to draw guys anatomy correctly. But Iā€™m getting better!
14. Skipped again because creative juicesā€¦.aughhhhhhhā€¦.Iā€™m tired of not having energy to draw ;-;
15. Would you ever give up any of your ocs: Okay Iā€™m gonna assume this is talking about giving up an oc to another person- like an adopt situation- and uh no. I donā€™t think I would be able to do that just because I have emotional connections to literally all of them. I love them too much to just hand over their birth certificate, yā€™know?
16. Who is your oldest oc (age wise): oh hah. Okay, so Iā€™m inclined to say C.J., because I ended her story with a cute little story of her growing old with her partner in a little cottage in the countryside- but! Iā€™m gonna give this one to Paula Fidreas, a Remnant oc, because she is quite literally in her 50ā€™s as of the start of the story. In the simplest terms, sheā€™s a PE teacher.
17. Have you ever roleplayed as your ocs: Yes! C.J. Was actually made from a role play! And I think Iā€™ve role played as Camila before, but that memory is a bit fuzzy.
18. How many of your ocs were adopted from someone else: None of emā€™! Theyā€™re mah babies, tried and true.
19. Who is your least favorite oc: I donā€™t count her in my oc count but Adelaideā€™s adoptive mom is definitely my least favorite. As a character she has a purpose in the story but I would never use her again or draw her in detail. I donā€™t know, sheā€™s just there for character development at the moment.
20. Which oc has changed the most since you made them: Vivian. Definitely Vivian. Not just because sheā€™s the oldest of I still use, but sheā€™s also went from a brown haired girl with zero personality and a boyfriend to a troubled teenager who is too weird and different to have friends so she seeks out companionship in the land of the dead.
21. Who is your newest oc: I mentioned them earlier and this totally breaks the abruptness of me mentioning them once out of nowhere, but the sextuplets are my newest ocs. Out of all of them, Orion is the newest because I came up with his concept first.
22. Have you ever cosplayed your own ocs: Alas, Iā€™ve never had the determination nor the money nor the confidence to do such a thing, BUT I ALMOST DID. When I was little I almost cosplayed C.J. Because I had no other ideas for a halloween costume. I didnā€™t end up doing it because I chickened out. Kinda wish I did though..
23. Which oc has effected you the most as youā€™ve grown with them: Iā€™m gonna give this one to Alice, actually. Sheā€™s the basis of my online persona and username, if you couldnā€™t tell- and she was with me through quarantine. That was a joke, but no really, she consumed my art that last year.
24. Have you gotten cosplayers of your ocs: No, lol- I donā€™t know near enough people or anyone who would do it. And if anyone did do it, I would be dead upon seeing or hearing it because OH MY GOD?? You thought my art was good enough to put time and money into a COSPLAY?? THANK YOU???? Weā€™re getting married. Put on the ring.
25. Do you have any ocs you havenā€™t used in a long time: y e a hā€¦ I havenā€™t ever mentioned Pepper here. Sheā€™s uhā€¦okay- imagine Entrapta from She-ra but ten times worse and no moral code. Evil scientist. Thatā€™s all I have to say here.
MEELU THANK YOU I NEEDED SOMETHING TO DO LOL
Iā€™ve been off tumblr for a while bro thank you for bringing me these! They were so fun <3

the missing american, kwei quartey
released 2020
read: 16 june 2023 ā€“ 22 june 2023
yeah so this is the first genuinely bad book (not just one that i wasn't feeling) i've read in a while. bad like i was trying not to dnf, but i was also picking up this book every chance i got just so i could finally be done with it and not have to read it anymore.
the missing american is 500+ pages of a whole load of nothing. if it had gone through any sort of editing or beta reads this could've been cut down to 200 pages, easy. all you'd need to do is cut out the multitudes of unnecessary, poorly fleshed-out characters, for one. there were so many that i genuinely had to take a moment to reorient myself every time yet another character was introduced, or we circled back to a character and i had to stop and think, "wait, who is this?" (after a point i no longer cared to do the mental jumps required and just rolled with it).
for another, you could cut out some of the convoluted, and ultimately irrelevant storylines. there is a storyline in here with an autistic boy called kojo and the autism centre he goes to and how they're trying to raise funds for it and they're donating ipads... i'm genuinely wondering why it was in there at all. if you cut out that entire storyline, nothing - genuinely nothing - would be lost. or how about if you took away the half-assed romantic storyline between the so-called protagonist emma (who honestly is just a cardboard cut out of a character) and the guy who i don't even remember the name of. or maybe even the sa storyline and its half-assed resolution. please, kwei quartey, you could've taken your pick. i saw someone's review of this book that reads "For the first third of the book you may be wondering what all these seemingly disparate happenings in very short chapters have to do with each other, but everything will be tied up neatly by the end." no, they absolutely will not be neatly tied up.
and while we're focusing on the editing this story clearly needed, how about some attention on the awful stilted dialogue. lack of characterisation is one thing, but unnatural conversations to boot is just too much to bear. someone's father literally dies, and i swear to you it didn't even feel like they were all that upset. wtf.
all this and i'm not even going to mention the misogynistic and ableist undertones (and occasionally overtones) running throughout this novel. or the weird obsession bordering on fetishisation of a white american guy with black ghanaian women. or the reference during an extremely odd sex scene to a woman's "pleasure grotto".
i normally try and find at least one good thing to mention about books i don't like, but i'm genuinely at a loss. i just don't want to think about this book anymore.
