I guess those girl scouts that work for Cassandra. They are a menaces to society and I wanna know their stories.

9) If you could change one thing about TMNT, what would it be?

I'm gonna do one for each show I've seen so far:

TMNT 2012 - Remove the entire Leo x Karai romance subplot. I'd change it that there's no romantic connection between them and instead when he first meets her, Leo only wants to hang out with Karai not because he likes her but because she gives him a sense of freedom and rebellion after being stress from being leader. Evenually Leo starts feeling like he knows Karai from somewhere, but everyone assumes he's just developing feelings for her, which is he insist that isn't the case. Once all the Turtles meet Karai they all start getting that same feeling as Leo when around Karai, as if they've known her their entire lives. This "feeling" is their familiar/sibling bond and the reason they "know her" is because they always heard stories from Splinter about Miwa, unknowingly to them, they are with Miwa!

ROTTMNT - I'd add in more classic TMNT characters to the show, specifically I'd bring in Mona Lisa (her and Raph would have a little slow burn side plot with her being in love with him but he's oblivious), Venus de Milo (who is Big Mama's assistant and the Turtles long lost sister, since the writer's confirmed there were more Turtles who were left behind), Renet (who'd be a time wizard in the under ground city), Mondo Gecko (a wanna be pro skater who gets mutated, it just be nice to give the Turtles more guy friends), and maybe Slash (who could be another long lost sibling).

TMNT 1987 - I'd just give Mona Lisa another episode. That's all I wanted in 87! Was that too much to ask?!

Upon entering Tempest's room later that evening, you're immediately struck by its uncharacteristic cleanliness and the candles meticulously arranged along his shelves. They cast a warm glow over Tempest, seated on his bed with legs crossed, cradling a guitar in his lap. He proceeds to serenade you with a song, personally composed for you, by him. The performance is brief, encompassing only a single verse, and as the final note fades, Tempest asks you to forgive him.

"Oopsy-daisy, baby's breath. Iris-pectfully apologize. Please forget-me-not… and uhm… Look. Bad puns aside, what I'm trying to say is… I'm sorry for upsetting you."

The morning after your fight, you find Vein lingering outside your room, a vibrant bouquet of your favorite flowers in her hands. Before you can react, the flowers are crumpled against your chest in a crushing embrace as Vein pulls you into a whirlwind hug. The world blurs as she spins you round and round, leaving you with only two choices:

a) vomit from dizziness or

b) accept her sincerest apology

"Fine, I messed up. Happy? Now pick your apology – but you only get one, got it?"

Insisting that you would be unable to sleep until she apologized, Mary storms into your room in the dead of night, jarring you from sleep. Taking advantage of your grogginess, she pins you to your bed and fans out the thin, crumpled slices of paper clutched in her hand. She orders you to select one. On each slip of paper, a different IOU is written:

IOU a full day of doing whatever the hell you want to do

IOU a movie night where we watch all of your favorite trash movies

IOU a letter detailing all of your least annoying traits

IOU a homemade dinner of your choosing (...but cooked by Noel, he owes me)

"Darling dearest, how much longer will you leave me to linger in the hall? My night will be frigid, unbearably bothersome as I shiver on my lonesome without you by my side….could you find it in your heart to forgive a fool? At least one foolishly in love?”

You sigh as Mona continues to dramatically plead at your bedroom door, talons tapping incessantly against the wood as her anxieties begin to emerge. As you finally open the door, she rushes in and nearly tackles you to the ground. Trapped within her hold she noisily smooches over the entirety of your face, cradling you like you’re something precious. Irreplaceable. You two will have a serious talk in the morning, but you’ll spend the rest of the night tangled together, cuddling under the sheets as she whispers into your ear every reason she fell for you to begin with.

“Beloved, the affliction of affection ails me; my world becoming insipid and dull in your absence. In having wounded you, I have wounded myself. I will eagerly bleed my heart dry in repentance if it can’t beat beside yours. I would give you all of myself to see you smile at me once more. Please, return to me tomorrow. I miss you.”

The note Sorin slipped under your door is littered with a stray tear mark here and there. Your heart aches as the the crooked letters, scribbled on hurriedly, bleed across the page from the dampness. When you go to find him the next morning, Sorin eagerly intertwines their fingers with yours, kissing your knuckles as they beg for your pardon and your company. The two of you plan to take a nap in the sunlit garden, but you have to silence Sorin with a kiss as he prattles on, praising your character.

”Wait…I…please. Hear me out.”

Noel heaves against the doorframe, one arm holding open the door you’d planned to shove close. Though his ears burn in shame, he requests that you join him that evening for dinner. In his room. Alone. When you arrive you’re taken aback by the makeshift candlelit dinner set up on a picnic blanket on the floor. Noel sheepishly lights a candle, letting you know that he’s prepared your favorite. He doesn’t want to talk while the two of you are hangry.

wip inspiration tag — next day after dawn

thank you max @goose-books for the tag!! the rules for this one are list as many inspirations/influences as you would like for your current work in progress, and explain how they’ve shaped your project!

next day after dawn (or, the project formerly known as historieswip) is a second word political fiction novel that's basically a mishmash shakespeare's histories with 90% less battle scenes and 90% more insane family dynamics. after everyone's favourite boyboss war criminal king gets deposed, his inner circle gets locked up by the new regime, and we follow them as they try to figure out what to do next and slowly drive each other insane.

henry vi part 3 (aka the whole wars of the roses tetralogy): there's a reason this project is just nicknamed historieswip. ohhhhh babygirl we got histories and i am not preserving shakespeare's timelines at ALL, i am just throwing those babies in a blender until i get 1. vaguely medieval english political structures 2. war with not-france 3. huge royal family with so much wrong with them. but from the henry vi plays specifically! this is where like half of the characters come from. the prince cyrus/cassandane/darcy dynamic is just the henry vi/margaret/suffolk love triangle, the house of lunares is the house of york: girlboss edition, and everything about the prince cyrus and mona dynamic comes from me Thinking about henry vi and richard iii foils moments. i could say more but we'd be here all day.

henry iv part 1 (and kind of 2): so. king cyrus is hal but that's also so mean to hal because king cyrus is SO much worse. however. he does have the hal backstory, by which i mean he was a rakish little alcoholic prince with a gay little boytoy until his dad died and then he had to get Serious and banish all his besties. and renan is his poins except if poins didn't get banished and stuck as the world's most depressed advisor faking respectability instead. ALSO kane my best friend kane is basically my hotspur <33

henry v: again, king cyrus is basically just henry v with the war crimes dialed up to 11. this one is the main inspiration for his conquering hero era and also the conflict with not-france and the not-french wife. it's also where i stole the title from!

king john: most of the histories i'm stealing from are at least like. connected to each other. king john is not but i love philip the bastard so fucking much so he's here (with extra transmasc aroace swag). that's helios — the war hero king's bastard who shows up to rise above his station and annoy everyone around him. and maybe be terminally loyal to a king who really doesn't deserve it

succession: the elevator pitch for this project is basically shakespeare's histories meets succession. specifically, season 1 episode 2 of succession, where the all-powerful patriarch is suddenly out of commission and maybe never coming back and the rest of the family is left losing their minds and wondering what the fuck they do now.

the hunger games: here's where i put on my clown shoes and admit that. um. you know how i said kane is hotspur. well he is but he's ALSO cato from the hunger games, as characterized in the criminally long fanfiction i wrote in middle school. and drea is um. clove. ANYWAY. thg is also an inspiration in terms of worldbuilding because i'm going for something kind of post-post-apocalyptic where there are vast disparities in technology in different parts of the country after decades of war and inequality. so we get modern tech plus medieval weapons, thank god.

darkling: this is partly a hatecrime against max my best friend max @goose-books because once upon a time i started jokingly shipping the two horrible old men in this book and then got so attached to the dynamic that i fully imported it into this project and made it canon gay. sorry bestie. but GENUINELY darkling is one of the best fucking books i've ever read and such a huge inspiration for how i do shakespeare retellings and also fucked up family dynamics.

gideon the ninth: this book is really nothing like gtn but i have to give it a shoutout because reading gtn was what inspired me to create this project! basically because i remembered how much i love ensemble casts and decided i wanted to write one. there are some similarities in terms of the vibe of everyone being locked in a big fucked up house together and everyone having super on the nose themed names but really just shoutout to tamsyn muir for being such a good writer that she made me want what she had (so many blorbos)

i watched gossip girl and i liked it for the most part. didn't care for some of the characters or plot lines but it was overall not that bad. would i rewatch? probably not. then i started pretty little liars since it was another i had heard about but never bothered to watch. well i'm halfway through season 3 and i skip aria & fitz's scenes cuz i really just don't care about the relationship and lost all respect for both of them. he should have ended it as soon as he realized she was his student and through all the drama and turmoil her friends are going through, aria only whines and complains about the inappropriate relationship then gets mad at her parents when they disapprove. like what tf did you expect???? then trying to use her parent's relationship issues against them because her dad wanted to send her away? wtaf how am i supposed to root for this character or relationship when this is what i'm given???? not to mention the stupid love songs that play in their scenes like this is just a normal ship with some difficulties and it's oo so exciting that it's forbidden. sorry no he should have been arrested or fired or SOMETHING! the mystery kind of makes the story interesting i guess so i'll keep watching it but it's giving me the urge to shit post each episode like i did for Legacies. i like mona though, she was a good twist villain and i didn't hate the reveal. the story has some weird af continuity issues though, and pacing. like hanna breaks her leg and has a cast for like a week then is fine? no crutches no smaller cast, nada. my sis broke her leg when she was 2 and had 2 casts that she called the Barney and Baby bop casts because they were pink and purple and she can't do sports very much which bummed her out because she loves soccer. yet hanna has no problems whatsoever or any kind of recovery..same as the wound on her thigh that wren patches up. idk maybe i'm too critical but it's hard not to notice plot holes that are at times glaringly obvious.

I shit I do a little of both, I can freestyle but half the time I like to sit down, smoke and get what i gots to say on paper. I be in the studio from 8pm to 4am mostly every night. But back to what you was saying, when you come from a struggle you gonna do what you gotta do to make it, like I was watching niggas I played ball with get drafted into the NBA. That shit is what motivated me to do something. I ain't want to be the failure watching these niggas living they best life.

I got people I need to take of so doing this show is to help them out to at the end of the day. But I have a few business ventures Im into and that I do, so I'm getting checks in multiple areas. You can't depend on making music forever, you don't wanna get burned out like RIHANNA's ass did. Thats something I always tell starting artist. Like ye treat yoself but sure you invest into some shit and build some shit for yourself.

I'm kind of with you on the lackluster Pilot episode of "The Perfectionists". I don't know whether or not I'm into it either. And not because of Emison (I'm more of an Emaya fan myself). I just thought it was cheesy and boring. I don't know if I should keep watching. What about you?

I have actually gotten several asks about whether I plan tokeep watching and why/why not. So I’m going to answer it here and just referback to it if it keeps coming up.

I don’t mind the asks at all. I love conversing, but because of the volume of asks about thisparticular opinion this is another long driveling post, and I’m sorry. You can mute my ass if you’re sick of me. I get it.

First of all OP, thank you for not ripping into me about notliking it. Also, Emaya had my heart. I loved them, too. Maya deserved better.

Second, this is a full-scale look at the show from a critic’svantage point. I watched the first episode twice because I thought maybe I hadn’tgiven it a fair shake the first time because I was in a weird mood. But even onthe second viewing I found a lot more that I disliked than I liked. Lots ofpeople are going to disagree, and that’s fine. Just don’t @ me. I’m legit notlooking for that. I’m just a girl (cue NottingHill music) standing in front her ask inbox asking those askers to love her.

Will I keep watching? I doubt it. Given that it only got a10-episode order and The Pilot wasn’t that interesting to me, I don’t see myselfsitting through it for 9 more episodes. My reasoning is two-tiered. Part of itis disinterest and the other part is the creative aspect of it in the media. Saddleup for my “truths” (I can’t remember who said that. Marlene maybe). I gave it afew days and considered it, and what I ended up with was this:

1) I’m just not into it. For the same reasons you (OP) stated.But I’ll also add that for me…it was predictable. I called the twists longbefore they happened. If I’m already doing that in The Pilot I can guarantee I’dbe doing that as the show went on. I’m like 93% sure I know exactly how it’sgoing to end this season. I tend to do that to myself. Being a writer suckssometimes. Because you see the way things are going to go from the beginning. You just have to decide if you want to go on the journey anyway.

2) While the characters were likable (I was surprised by howmuch I liked Ava), they are a bit one-sided and kind of bland (except I foundNolan’s duality extremely intriguing). There is the argument that can be madehere that they will grow, and I do agree with that. But when I watch a show’sPilot I need to care about at least one character to see what’s going to happenand where they are going to go (In PLL it was Em/Aria for me). None of the characters in TP did that for me (noteven Mona and Alison, which surprised me, because I’ve been super-hype for thisshow not only for them, but for the newbies, too).  

3) The plot (so far) just feels like a rehash of everysingle YA mystery novel/TV show that is hot right now. And I am aware that thisis based loosely on exactly that (Sara’s series), but I think maybe I’ve justbecome desensitized to the same cheesy soap-opera-y murder mystery plots. Or perhaps I’m just desensitized to this particular kind of storytelling. It doesn’tfeel new and different to me and it was very strangely paced with too muchgoing on and not enough time to care about it. It just felt disjointed. Everythingabout the first episode just fell flat for me.

4) And lastly, yes, I’d say there is a tiny part of me…likemaybe…6% that doesn’t want to watch because I’m not about that off-screenEmison drama. I knew it was going to happen and I’m not mad about them beingsplit. I’m disappointed (hears “that’sjust ‘mom speak’ for mad!” echoing somewhere) that the marketing team isusing it for ratings. When you have decent writing you don’t need to play games like that to try andget viewers. It would be one thing to be decisive about what happened toEmily/Alison (Split them. Don’t split them. I don’t care. Just make a fuckingdecision because you’re creating a war between fans and you know it). It’sanother thing entirely to draw it out because you need people to watch and talkabout it.

I am also particularly bothered by hearing the excuse (several times by MK) that “Shay was busy”because Marlene literally planned the spin-off in season 6 (confirmed by bothher and Sasha). It. Was. Planned. I say this as a critic and not an Emison fan: Everything about the way they’ve tried to use Emison to generate buzz was underhanded. And saying shit like that opens the door for people to hate on Shay, and that’s really not cool.

Personally, I think it speaks volumes that the producers felt the need to addthe off-screen drama on top of the really decent plot they already had. Theycould have kept it unproblematic with simple writing choices and less inflammatorycommentary. They could have left the PLL drama in the PLL-verse and given thespotlight to the new drama. I don’tagree with creating old off-screen drama with zero chance of satisfactoryresolution all in the name of ratings. I hate marketing shit like that. It’s acheap amateur tactic and it turns me off.

I think the show could have been something special had theynot marketed it as PLL. But they did, so of course there was a certainexpectation. And of course there is some backlash. Because there are these twoworlds that have nothing to do with each other and so far I don’t feel likethey’ve blended it together well. For me, it was like watching PLL, but with less magic and less chemistry. If I had to describe it I’d say it feels alot like a recipe where you’re just throwing a bunch of ingredients into a bowlwith no idea what you’re making and you’re just hoping it’ll be edible by theend. Rather than focusing on the new universe the marketing team chose to focuson Ali/Mona’s new world and the drama that comes with them. And to me that almost says they don’t have faith that TPwould have been able to stand on its own without the PLL universe. Part of methinks I’d be more interested if this had been a completely fresh start. I wasactually more compelled by the newbies than I was Alison/Mona (though I adorethem, too).

That being said, I really wish the best for the cast/crew. I’llcontinue to watch the behind the scenes games/cast antics. I’ve been a fan ofSasha since I discovered PLL (everything about her seems very sweet and genuine andjust positive all around). And Janel as Mona was one of my favorite castingchoices of all time. In fact, I think my very first PLL post here was praisefor Janel. I’ve been following Sydney since she was a smol lil bean on theDisney Channel (and loved her in Tia’s Mowry’s show “Instant Mom”). Sofia seemslike a sweet girl, and I have enjoyed her other work. And Eli honestly justseems like he’d be a cool dude to kick back and have a drink with (is he evenold enough to drink? Jesus, they’re all babies). I love them all. In fact, I’veenjoyed the fun behind the scenes stuff more than I enjoyed the show. I’dwatch a reality show of them all day. That’s where I’ll get my fill. Watching them being goofy.

Final verdict: No, the show will not be getting my views. I’llprobably just watch the absurdity of Riverdale instead. Cheryl is fucking wild,y’all. And I’m kind of living for mean-dark-snarky Betty. And Sweet Pea is like…myfavorite character ever. My dumb asshole child.

As far as whether or not youshould watch it, I have no idea. I have a lot of people asking me my opinion onthat (which, I’m like the worstperson to ask, please don’t give me that responsibility. I don’t even likebeing responsible in the real world. I literally had a cookie and Cocoa Puffsfor dinner). I will say that if you’re only watching for Emison then I’d changethe channel. Because guaranteed it’s just going to make you rage. You’re not going to get anything out of it. Fill yourevenings with something more pleasant and positive for you.

And be nice to others on social media. At the end of the day, it’s only a show. You like it or you don’t.

Last week, I sent my newly minted three-year-old off to Pre 3-K. I stayed long enough to watch him head off, hand-in-hand with the teacher as they lead the class to the playground, and then I turned. I walked away slowly. I skipped. I BACKFLIPPED the rest of the way back to my car. 

I. WAS. FREE.

God, we love our kids. Good god, sometimes they drive us nuts. Some people get the nice, quiet easy kids. Some people. Some people, like me, get the energetic, crazy kids who could literally run in circles for twenty hours and then beg to run the NY marathon afterwards. That's my freaking kid out there leaping off the top of the playground doing pirouettes. Yeah. He exhausts me just watching him.

So, ie: getting enough work done in the last three years to count has been a work in futility. I am constantly pinched, prodded, and well ... SNUGGLED TO DEATH.

I love my kid. He is literally the sweetest, the cutest, the happiest, the most loving baby I have ever met. He also drives me f'ing nuts, especially when he uses mama as a human jungle gym. Which is always.

Yet, somehow, MIRACULOUSLY, I have managed to get quite a significant amount of work accomplished in the three years since my son was born. I have a stack of picture book dummies. I have two mid-grade novels waiting to be edited. I've built my portfolio into something to be proud of. I have gotten offers for book deals (still being discussed) and representation. I am GOING SOMEWHERE. Sitting on my ass definitely isn't my modus operandi. 

In many respects, my child is my inspiration. I have always been driven to produce work. It is my life's greatest joy. My child multiplied that times ten. But he also put the fire under my ass to get PAID FOR WHAT I LOVE. Because I have to feed him too, you know? It isn't just me anymore.

On the other hand, my son has also been my biggest hurdle. He is a time-suck. 12 hours of my day dedicated to keeping him alive and making sure he doesn't turn into a tyranical beast. I have had to teach him how to be an aware human being who doesn't step in front of cars the first chance he gets or run into open campfires (yes, he's tried). He's also beautifully polite and says thank-you and please and excuse me and sorry, you're-welcome-very-much. He shares all his toys.

So work gets slipped into my schedule solicitously like a lover on the sly. Sometimes, I feel a little ashamed as my partner gets home from work, and I hurdle over the fence to my car to cram as much work in at a coffee shop until it's time to come home again. Then even later hours after bedtime, up in my studio (ie: my son's playroom) until 2 in the morning. Pass out. Get up at 6:30 every day because my little boy is NOT a sleeper-inner. Three years of barely-functional sleep. But somehow, grudgingly, things getting done. Maybe not having much of a social life. Free time, what's that? But still, getting freaking WORK done.

It's been grueling. The last three months, the ones leading up to Pre-K freedom, were nothing short of hellish purgatory. Waiting. Just waiting. Waiting to be let out of limbo. I HAVE TO WORK. Have you ever heard of feeding your joy? Well, my son is my joy. I feed him. But my work is also my joy. And I need to feed that too. 

So hey, SCHOOL HAS FINALLY BEGUN. My daily hostage situation has found some reprieve. And you know what? My SON IS HAPPY ABOUT IT. I have never seen him happier than the day he came back from his three-point-five hours of play and games and snacks. He had the TIME of his LIFE. And there's nine more months of this to go!

I call this one big, giant YES.

I'm happier because I have a regular work routine again. My son is happier because he gets to socialize and play in a way I just can't maintain all day long (I'm just shy of 40, yo! We don't stay twenty forever.).

Everybody wins.

And that makes me so. freakin. happy.

So if I break into a tap dance as I walk my kid to school on Monday, forgive me. I love my little boy. But there is Rivkah, the devoted mama. And there is Rivkah, the working artist. And I can't do it all at the same time. Nobody can. I thought I could once. Nope. We can't. Everybody needs space to work. Toddlers crawling in your lap isn't space. Working from home with a rampaging toddler is like trying to paint the Mona Lisa at a gymnasium. Good luck trying to sell that one, Leonardo! You might want to remove the glitter glue from her smile, first.

darling mona, I’m at a loss of words, really. I have no idea what I did in my past life to deserve someone as kind, loving, supporting, funny and just overall amazing as you. I will cherish this message for a long time, I might have teared up a bit while reading it, let’s be honest here.
